Event Preview: HMMA 88 Alexandrov v KPP
HEROIC
2013-06-15, London, The H2O Arena
Author:

Hello everyone “Sunshine” Weston Markson here along with the very stupid co host of mine Rudy “The box” Knife, and we are here to discuss the huge event HMMA 88.  This is slated to be the biggest event in HMMA history an astounding 20,000 are expected to fill the H20 arena in London.  Now everyone get ready this is going to be a edge of the seat sitting, fingernail biting sick to the stomach, oh dear god please let my fighter win kind of night.  3 Heroes defend their titles, and many more of the divisions top contenders will take to the cage doing battle to hopefully become one of the next contenders and heroes.

Rudy:  Ok Weston thanks for the shout out everyone knows you have a giant man crush love thing on me, but holy shit this card is awesome.  HMMA 88, the record books, move aside this will be the greatest night in HMMA history a live three hour PPV is expected 3 great champions, former champions, and future contenders litter this card with awesomeness.   Now lets get into the discussion on this great event.

MAIN EVENT

#1/C Fedor “Sambist” Alexandrov (19-5) v #2  Kaka Pheu Pheu (10-1-1)                   205 lbs title

Weston:  The main event of HMMA 88 is a light-heavyweight title fight between champion Fedor Alexandrov, and Challenger Kaka Pheu Pheu.  KPP earned a title shot after defeating Pierre Trudeau, he started his HMMA career in the middleweight division but decided the weight cut was to much and moved up to 205, now three fights into his 205 lbs campaign he gets a shot to take on the best LHW in HMMA.  Fedor Alexandrov is quickly making a case as one of the best LHW’s of all time.  Since winning the title in January Alexandrov hasn’t looked back, having defended the title 3 times successfully and looking to make a 4th.  A win here gets him closer to Heroic status and cements himself as one of the greatest LHW fighters on the planet.  Will KPP end the reign of “Sambist” or will Fedor rise to the occasion once again?  In a interview with Alexandrov’s manager he said  “KAKA PHEU PHEU is so tough. He has won every fight in HMMA It's gonna be the real deal.”  I couldn’t have said it any better this fight is the real deal so get ready!

Rudy:  This is one of the biggest fights in a while, KPP could come in and pull off a win, and start a legacy of his own, or Fedor will cement his legacy and move closer to earning a spot as one of the heroic.  Fedor his been a dominant champion and has done so by employing great ground skills.  His Olympic wrestling and world class BJJ has led him to where he is.  Expect no different from Fedor when he gets in the cage and looks to take the fight to the ground and work GNP/Submissions.  KPP has shown he can be dangerous anywhere standing or on the ground 7 of his 10 wins have come by finish and 3 of those by submission.   Its interesting to note that all of Fedor’s wins have been by stoppage, and when the his fights go to decision he doesn’t seem to be on the winning end, if KPP can drag this fight into the latter rounds I give him the advantage and could walk away with a victory.

Prediction:  I have Fedor winning this one by TKO

CO-MAIN EVENT

#2 "Donkey Style AKA Badonk-a" Don Key  (24-4-2) v #1/C "Peltosaaren Teurastaja" Brutaali Keijo (16-10-1) 170 lbs title

Weston:  The CO-MAIN EVENT is a Welterweight title fight as the challenger Don Key, takes on champion Brutaali Keijo.  It doesn’t seem like it was long ago everyone was wondering how Keijo placed in one of the most stacked divisions in HMMA after a draw and a loss in his first two HMMA fights, but those fights motivated Brutaali to go on a 4 fight win streak, defeating top challengers, capturing the title, and in his most recent win defending the welterweight championship.  Some critics say Keijo still hasn’t finished a fight in HMMA but its those same critics who praise him for the entertaining fights he puts on.  A knack for winning close fights has given him his very own dangerous style.  Don Key may be making his first HMMA appearance, but he is no stranger to championships, its not often a fighter jumps right into the title picture in HMMA, and its even less often they get a shot in their debut.  Oh but when you have the credentials that “Donkey Style AKA badonk-a” Don Key has its hard to bypass giving him the opportunity.   With 3 separate title reigns in the past and a total of 15 title wins Key knows exactly what it takes to get the job done against the best fighters on the biggest stages.

Rudy:  The long awaited debut of Don Key, this is something fans  have been waiting for….the wait is over, Saturday night we find out if he has what it takes to come in and defeat the champion.  Keijo  is a very well rounded fighter who uses both standup and ground games to win fights.  Although he hasn’t shown a capacity for finishing fights he does have the ability to do so, if Don Key gets over aggressive or cocky thinking Keijo cant finish him he may very well find himself getting finished.   Where Brutaali has shown talents is in finding ways to pull out close fights, Don Key is the flip side of that, he has shown vicious KO power having won 20 of 24 by TKO.  Both of these guys have a lot on the line and only one walks out of the cage champion, who does it?

Prediction:  I think Brutaali wins if the fight makes it to the championship rounds, if it ends early I think Don Key walks out champ.

MAIN CARD

#1/C Donny "The Bear Jew"  Donowitz (24-4)  v#2  Roy "The Wardog" Pittbul (19-7-1) 155 lbs title

Weston:  The last fight on the main card is a lightweight title fight.  Newly crowned champion Donny “The Bear Jew” Donowitz defends his title for the first time against Roy Pittbul.  Donowitz comes into this fight having won four straight, and Pittbul having won two.  Pittbul has beaten every fighter he has faced in HMMA except one, the former champion Mike Tyson.  Now getting a shot at the title against someone other then Tyson Pittbul hopes to continue his trend and add another name to the list of fighters who hasn’t beaten him.  Donowitz embarks on a magical journey that all started in his HMMA debut when he officially became a hero.  Having been a multi time champion elsewhere HMMA brass thought it was appropriate he get an opportunity to face what was the unbeaten in HMMA champion.  “The Bear Jew” made good on the opportunity and took home a new title to add to his collection.  The only question is will he keep winning? Or will “The Wardog” end his reign before it really gets started?

Rudy:  This is a great fight here between two guys who have very good overall skills.  One would argue that Donowitz has the better standup by a slim margin, and Pittbul the better ground game also by a slim margin.  Either of these fighters could end the fight at moments notice, they both posses power, however in 55 fights between these two warriors they have been finished a combined ONE time, that means we could be in for a long fight between two hard to finish warriors.  I think if the fight goes to a decision I favor the champion to win as he has done so more consistently when the judges cards are read.

Prediction:  Once again I pick the champion to retain.

#8 Shane "Shark" Wilson (14-3) v  Wesley "The Knight" Templar (14-5)

Weston:   The next fight on the main card is a light-heavyweight fight between two of the divisions finest fighters.   When you look at the level of competition Templar has faced its very easy to understand why he is 1-2 in HMMA.  Having only lost to the 2nd and 4th ranked fighters in the division is what if any is considered a good loss.  Just missing the cutoff point for being ranked Templar is wanting to get back in that top ten and prove he belongs as one of the divisions contenders.   To do so he has to beat debuting LHW and 8th ranked Shane Wilson.  Wilson comes in on a two fight win streak, ranked high with quite a bit of expectations as a potential challenger.  His first step in proving he belongs is beating “The Knight”.

Rudy:  I don’t know who wins this fight, I have it very close.   I imagine Shane Wilson will want nothing to do with the ground game of Templar.  Who loves to put guys on their back and GNP them until they lose consciousness.  Although he has proven he can hold his own against ground guys Wilson’s key to victory is avoiding the ground at all costs.  Wilson on the other hand is a slightly better striker then Templar so Templar will want to avoid trying to stand with him for too long as he could find himself being picked apart and withering away.  Both of these fighters have 14 wins, only one can get their 15th win here which one is it going to be?

Prediction:  Its close but I think Templar takes it.

#7 Mike Hunt (15-12)  v  #6 “Go”Phukyorselvf Uzannavabizch     (22-5-1)

Weston:  In a battle between two of the most interesting names one of the next contenders could emerge.  The 7th ranked Mike Hunt welcomes debuting 6th ranked Phukyorselvf Uzannavabizch.   Phukyorselvf comes into HMMA having a storied and decorated career having won and defending championships multiple times.  A win against Mike Hunt could put him in the picture to do the same thing here in HMMA.   Phukyorselvf’s last fight was a loss that snapped a 9 fight losing streak, im sure Phukyorselvf wants to get another opportunity for 10 straight wins down the road but to do so he must first beat Mike Hunt.  Hunt comes into this fight on a 2 fight win streak after losing his HMMA debut.  A surprise in the division most have considered him, having gone 2 and 1 so far against top talent, the only loss being a late KO in what was before a close fight against the former #1 contender and current next in line at a title shot Nate Barnes.  A win here could bring Hunt into surprise contention this is one of the most interesting fights of the night imo and one im really excited for.

Rudy:  Your excited?  IM EXCITED!  Mike Hunt, “GO” Phukyorselvf Uzannavabizch, this is going to be a great fight for commentary!   This will be the most fun I have ever had commentating a fight.  These two men are quite evenly matched overall and both look for the (T)KO, but they do it differently then their opponents.  Hunt has presented an aptitude for grounding his opposition and destroying their face with GNP.  While Phukyorselvf typically keeps the fight standing to get the (T)KO.  Phukyorselvf has more knockouts with 14, but he also has more fights, Hunt has 9 of his 15 wins by knockout.  I see two factors determining this fight, one who has the better chin, and two who keeps the fight in their realm.

Prediction:  I think Phukyorselvf keeps the fight standing long enough to get the TKO.   If it ends up on the ground though Hunt will win.

#7 Bowser Stormcrow (12-1)  v  #9  "The Hawk" Sven Dufva (10-2)

Weston:  What a great fight we have kicking off the main card of HMMA 88, the debuting 7th ranked Bowser Stormcrow does battle against 9th ranked Sven Dufva in a battle to determine which  prospect is better.  These two young fighters have high expectations awaiting them but this fight could determine which fighter may have the better career.  Dufva is a former two time title challenger, in HMMA having his only two losses come at defeats of the champions.  There is no shame there they are champions for a reason, but Dufva hopes the next time he challenges for a title, its him who comes out on the winning end.  Stormcrow has also had a lot of success in his career, having won all but one of his fights.  A win here could very well catapult him into contender status as he looks to make a name for himself in a crowded division of great fighters.

Rudy:  This is the fight right here that I am most interested in, these two great young fighters have high high hopes, and this could be a deciding factor in the fans knowing which one  has the highest upside.  Both men are well-rounded, both can fight anywhere, and both are finishers having finished over 75% of their fights.  At the end of the night one of these great young fighters will go home a little disheartened, and the other with proof they are one of the best young welterweights in all of MMA.

Prediction:  coin toss…heads Bowser tails Sven…..and tails it is.
