Inside The UPF: Hype Williams

Fighter profile of Hype Williams by Dale Saw

Hello again. This is Fred Meyer. With a brand new edition of Inside The UPF. This week we have a very exciting show planned for you. We will be visiting with Hype Williams, the UPF's bantamweight champion. And, here we go.

Freddy: So Hype, that's an unusual name. Is there a story behind that?

Hype: Well, it's actually a nickname I got back in high school. I was very popular. Everybody was all in my business. I couldn't do anything without generating hype, so to speak, in school. It almost seemed like the other kids knew what I was gonna do before I did. Haha

Freddy: Haha. Ok, so you're the current bantamweight champion in the UPF. You want to tell us a little bit about where your journey began, how you got into mma?

Hype: My father is my hero. He was a six time world Sambo champion. He was also my first trainer. I started training at age 9 in Sambo wrestling with my dad. Added boxing training around age 16 or so. Had my first professional fight at age 20 at IMMA BEAT YOUR ASS org in Helsinki. Where I spent my entire career before I signed with the UPF.

Freddy: How did you end up all the way over in Hilo from Helsinki?

Hype: Well I wasn't really happy with my manager at that time Mega Jug. So I decided to get a new one. Dale Saw picked me up and started talking up the UPF. Next thing I know, I'm on a plane to Hilo with all my belonging. Best change I've ever made.

Freddy: So Hype, there's a little controversy over you winning the belt at such a young age without even having to defeat a standing champion. And your only defense is against a guy nicknamed "Whimpy" Some critics are calling you a paper champion? Is there anything you would like to say to those critics?

Hype: What are you trying to say Fred? That I'm a paper champ? You're a pretty big dude. But I'm pretty sure I could take you. You wanna step outside? And, I'll show you why I'm the champ. Paper champ my a**.

Freddy: No, not at all Hype. If anything, I'm your biggest fan. What's the future look like? Any plans on a title defense soon?

Hype: Well that's in the hands of the UPF staff. I'll fight anybody they put the the octagon with me. But, I would like a title defense soon. There are a few new guys to the bantamweight division with some decent talent. Hopefully I'll get a worthy opponent next fight and shut those critics up. Paper champion.

Freddy: So, in your last last defense, "Whimpy" Tony Goldman wasn't worthy enough?

Hype: They call him whimpy for a reason. Next question.

Freddy: Ok so we're almost out of time. Real quick before we go, any predictions on UPF's welterweight championship tournament?

Hype: I just gotta say that they're all lucky that I'm only 141 lbs. Or else I would walk away the victor.

Freddy: Haha, that's good enough. Well that's it for the weeks show. Join in next week, we'll be sitting down with Ichabod Crane. An up and comer in the UPF's heavyweight division. Until next time, I'm Fred Meyer signing off.
