CFS 5: Avalanche Preview

Event Preview: CFS 5: Avalanche
Crucible Fights: St.Petersburg [190K+ ID]
2013-03-23, St Petersburg, The Underground - St Petersburg
Author:Ville Coleman

This weekends event is a bit special because it's our first event under the new Crucible banner! Here is a short preview of the fights!
Prelims
(205lb) Serious Business (3-0) v Pierre LeLaurant (0-0)
Classic striker vs grappler match up. If the debutant LeLaurant can’t get the early KO, Business will put him on his back and finish him.

(205lb) Robinson Crusoe (pro debut) v Laurent Page (pro debut)
Two Lhw’s making their debuts in this fight. Crusoe is a bit more well-rounded so he’s the favourite for the W.

(185lb) Destin Craven (1-1) v Pope Gracie (1-0)
Craven made an impressive entrance to the Crucible by knocking out Jack London at RFF 2 by a Cro Cop style head kick. Gracie is a BJJ prodigy and this fight is his Crucible debut. While Craven is definitely the more well-rounded fighter I think that Gracie will get the fight to the ground and finish Craven by submission.

(205lb) Krystian Turzynski (1-0) v Bjj Pro (pro debut)
This is a battle of grapplers in light heavyweight division. Pro is the better wrestler but Turzynskis BJJ- brown belt ground game might be too much for him and he might get submitted by the Pole.

(170lb) Miquel Costas (2-3) v Georg Sachie (1-1)
Costas is coming to the fight with a three fight losing streak and is looking to change the course of his career. Sachie is a promising grappler and he will try to make an impression on his Crucible debut. Both guys have a purple belt ground game but Sachie is a good wrestler and he will more than likely put Costas on his back. If Costas can effectively work from his back and force the stand up or reverse the position he will have a good change of winning this fight. However if Sachie can control the fight from top positon he will get his hand raised.

(170lb) Mirko Crop (0-1) v Georges St Pierre (1-0)
In this fight, Crop will be looking to use his superior striking to pick St. Pierre apart and get the KO. St.Pierre has a purple belt ground game and will be the favourite if the fight hits the mat. Unfortunately St. Pierres’ wrestling doesn’t live up to his name and Crop has a good change to keep this one standing and get the W to his record.

Main card

(205lb) Grom Hellscream (1-0) v Drille Nissen (1-1)
Our first fight on the main card is a battle of two boxers so get ready for fireworks! It’s very hard to predict the winner here, but I have gut feeling that Hellscream might have a slight edge here being 6 years elder of Nissen and having a slightly higher boxing skills.

(265lb) Vadim Ivanov (1-0) v Junior Dos Santos (1-1)
In our second fight of the main card we will bring some HW action for you! This is again a classical striker vs grappler contest. Dos santos will try to keep Ivanov at distance with his boxing and reach. Ivanov however is a very powerful wrestler and will propably get the takedown and finish the fight on the ground.

(205lb) Liu Xinchang (pro debut) v Perry Straps (4-2)
Our co-main event of the evening is a battle of to light heavyweights. Despite this being Xinchangs pro debut, his impressive skill set earned him a place in the co-main event. Straps is a BJJ brown belt with 3 submission victories in his record. Straps would like this one to go to the ground but Xinchangs wonderful wrestling skills won’t make that easy for Straps. If Straps doesn't get the takedown early, Xinchang will pick Straps apart in standup exhanges and win the fight.

(265lb) Juan Pablo Cortez (4-2) v Ramzes Tuttanhamon (4-0)
Our main event of the evening is a heavyweight battle between the former title conternder “Spain murder” Cortez and a young rising star form Egypt, Ramzes Tuttanhamon. Cortez has earned himself a nice fan base with his aggressive swing for the fences style that has earned him three KO victories in the past. He will without a doubt look to punch Tuttanhammons head off in this fight. Tuttanhammon is a BJJ purple belt with all his wins coming byt the way of submission so he’d definitely want this fight to go to the ground. If Tuttanhammon can weather the early storm and get the takedown, he will have a good chance of adding yet another submission victory to his record.
