BFT 182 Review
Welterweight - Chumba "La Bamba" Wumba Unanimous Decisions John "Kook" Connor
The fight starts with a takedown from Connor and he stays on top and throws a little ground and pound and just overall working over Wumba. The second round had the very lack luster clinch - un-clinch strategy employed. Not my favorite. But when they were at teh distance Wumba made up for his other plans by being exciting. A nice hook rocks Connor, and an even better uppercut sends him to the mat. He made it out of the round, but ooohhh man, he looks out of it. The crowd could almost feel a finish coming. The next round saw more of the same from Wumba, the good and the bad. Another overhand right sends Connor back down to the mat. Connor was able to keep going, somehow, and even scored a takedown in the last seconds of the round. Wumba had a good night with the judges.
Co-Main - Heavyweight - "The Warmaster" Josh Barnett submitted "Rat" January Kwiecinski with a kimura in 17 seconds of round 1
Wow! Um... Not too much to really say about this one. Barnett was more active on the feet before he got the takedown into side control. He landed some ground and pound before locking up the kimura.
Main Event - Welterweight - "The Kraken" Jermaine Choake knocks out Chev Chelios with strikes at 3:44 of round 2.
We saw some good exchanges early, With Chelios and Choake throwing it down. Choake was able to get the first takedown, but it wasn't long until Chelios made some room and got up. Choake was able to get it down again. From here, Choake was able to advance a little and throw some solid ground and pound. He went for an arm, but it didn't look like it was going anywhere. They make it to the next round, but Choake looked great. Chelios gets the clinch as round two opens, and Choake responds to that with a takedown. Choake throws down some ground and pound and advances on the ground. He eventually gets his way up to mount and just lets the ground and pound fly. There was an elbow that landed that rocked Chelios and Choake could cmell blood. He continued on the ground and pound until the ref comes in and says enough is enough. Some nice ground and pound from Choake.
