Ladies and Gents, it is time to once again preview a few of the more exciting matchups on the upcoming EMMA card. EMMA uses the Down For Life charity events to give really young fighters or fighters who have hit a rough patch a chance to compete and make some money. However, this week we have a title fight as two of EMMA’s biggest fighters battle it out for the 265+lbs belt. Also the charity events are used to help out Hellraiser Alliance members as each member gets the profits in turns. This week I’m happy to announce that I will be receiving the profits which is always nice to hear. Now, on to the fights!
Luc Devreux vs Harlan Crowe
Harlan Crowe is one of the more talented fighters in EMMA and was so along with a few of his brothers. Contract disputes has lead to most other Crowe fighters going back to New York but this title fight was already booked and Crowe did not want to pull out. Crowe (7-0) is downright nasty and could really make waves at this division throughout his career. Crowe is a very good wrestler who likes to pound you out who now knows how to strike and fight in the clinch, very tough matchup for anyone. The challenger, Devreux (5-2) is back on a 2 fight win streak after losing his first title fight to the former champ at the time. Devreux has been with EMMA for a long time and considering the closing up of the division really deserved a shot. Devreux is also very well rounded and posses some nasty kicks and punches, all of his wins have come by (t)ko so this should be a good one. This fight is very even, especially on the feat, but I do think Crowe will land his takedowns and that will be the difference when it’s time for the decision. Since it is a 5 round title fight, conditioning will also come into play. Pick: Crowe via decision
Osulf Durin vs Damien Maia
Durin (6-3) is a WFC veteran who let everyone at EMMA know who is with a nice submission win over Colrane at EMMA 15. He is an exciting fighter with strong boxing and BJJ who has never gone to a decision in his wins or losses. Durin has wins by KO, TKO from ground and pound and submission making him the ideal MMA finisher. He is still a young fighter and, considering how exciting he is, many people are hoping big things for him. His opponent, Maia (1-1) is relatively unknown and still young in his MMA career although he does have some serious ground skills. Maia lost a tough decision in his EMMA debut and will look to bounce back here against the more experienced Durin. Durin is far better than Maia in most aspects, especially stand up, so I do expecting him to win the fight easily. Pick Durin via Submission
Tyler Tap Or Snap vs Marcel Washington
Tap or Snap (3-1) is a talented BJJ specialist who has proven to be dangerous in the ground with his 3 wins coming by 1st round submission. Tap or Snap will be making is EMMA debut here and will be looking to showcase mainly his BJJ brown belt although he does have feeble stand up and some decent wrestling as well. His opponent, Washington (6-0), is a QFC tourney winner who has just kept on winning. He won his debut back at EMMA 14 and carries quite a bit of hype in the EMMA 205lbs division. Washington is a good wrestler who likes to stand and bang and has always come out on top in his first 6 fights. It will be interesting to see if Tap or Snap can take this fight down before he eats a big punch. Pick: Washington via Decision
