NGF 34 Review

UNDER CARD

Light Heavyweight Fight

#25 Jean Cerien (2-2, 1-2 NGF) v #23 Ivan Zhukov (2-4, 1-4 NGF)

Jean Cerien has little trouble vs Ivan Zhukov.  Cerien did exactly what I thought he would do, instantly dove in, got the take down and from there it was just a matter of time.  Once again, Ivan Zhukov looked disinterested, slow and all in all, out matched.  Cerien attempted 3 submissions, finally ending the fight just 2:11 into the 1st with a Kimura.  The only submission of the night, by default winning the SOTN.

Bantamweight Fight

#21 Michael Sandler (2-5, 0-4 NGF) v #19 Ron Sieler (5-5 NGF)

Why can’t Ron Sieler look like this every night?  Sieler was dominating; he clearly tried a different approach by trying to go for the Muay Thai clinch, but in the end, it was the big right hand that ended this fight.  Sieler has looked pretty good his last two fights, but is just 1-1 over those two fights.  Michael Sandler is not 0-4 in the NGF and might be fighting to stay in the organization next fight.  Michael couldn’t get anything going, he landed a few nice shots, but was knocked out 1:58 into the 1st.

Light Heavyweight Fight

#12 Andrzej Golotowski (0-1) v #20 Ivan Grozni (9-4, 2-2 NGF)

I thought Andrzej Golotowski would have a better showing in this one, but Ivan Grozni was just too powerful.  Grozni instantly pushed the action, he was able to do whatever he wanted, even catching Golotowski with a nice spinning back fist.  Andrzej tried, but couldn’t land nor defend anything Grozni threw at him.  The first big shot was a left on the button from Grozni that rocked Golotowski.  Then Ivan ended the fight, just 46 in with a huge uppercut that lifted Andrzej off his feet a bit, landing like a sack of potatoes.

Welterweight Fight

#12 Dominick Napolitano (3-2, 3-1 NGF) v #15 Lionel Cascara (6-3, 1-3 NGF)

The first real good fight of the card, Dominick Napolitano made it 3 wins in the NGF with a TKO win over Lionel Cascara.  The fight started with an instant take down by Cascara.  The next few minutes there wasn’t much action with Cascara controlling and attempting a few submissions, but Dominick defended well.  The two fighters were forced to stand up, and after 3 quick take down attempts, none successful, Napolitano went to work.  He chopped away at Lionel’s legs with kicks, was able to land a jab here and there, and also landing a head kick that cut Cascara.  The 2nd was more Napolitano, hard leg kicks, a body kick that clearly hurt Cascara and big red welt was seen on the midsection of Cascara.  A quick jab had Lionel Cascara wobbly, but even after landing a few strikes, Dominick wasn’t able to end the fight.  A big moment happened a few minutes later, Napolitano was able to land a beautiful head kicks, knocking down Cascara, Dominick mounted Cascara and landed bomb after bomb, but still he was unable to stop the fight and it went to a 3rd round.  It was a head kick again that knocked Cascara down one last time, after Napolitano jumped on the fallen opponent, landing 3 heavy strikes, the fight was stopped 39 seconds into the 3rd.  The finally stats were ugly, Dominick Napolitano was able to land 19-19 leg kicks, 10-10 body kicks and 4-7 head kicks, landing a total of 51-57 strikes while Cascara was only able to land 2 of his 17.

Heavyweight Fight

#16 Kullervo Pelli (6-4, 3-2 NGF) v #15 Armand Battailen (6-1, 2-0 NGF)

I wrote in the preview that Kullervo Pelli might have the best 1 punch power in the NGF…well; it was that 1 punch that may have set up Pelli for the KOTY with a highlight reel KO of Armand Battailen.  It was a quick punch, very early, that had blood streaming down Armands face.  Armand never looked good, it wasn’t a long fight, but in the short time, you could see Battailen didn’t have a shot.  Another big right hand a few seconds later rocked Armand.  Battailen then threw out a halfhearted jab, easily avoided then the monster of all combinations, right, left…GOOD NIGHT IRENE!  Kullervo Pelli really has to be feared now, he’ll move into title contention with another win or two.

MAIN CARD

Super Heavyweight Fight

#5 Stanley Hughes (4-1, 1-1 NGF) v #2 Vladan Perunovic (7-0, 4-0 NGF)

Vladan Perunovic does it again, he is a big time force and he’s ready for a title shot!  I’m not sure what to say, Perunovic is simply an amazing fighter.  He lands everything he throws, he’s quick, yet he can stand there, almost studying, then like a rattle snake, he strikes with force that can KO anyone out.  Stanley Hughes is gonna be a great fighter, he’s just not ready for Vladan yet.  Perunovic landed two body shots, then quickly a combination and Hughes was on his ass.  Vladan stepped back, allowing Hughes to get back up.  A few strikes that didn’t land from Stanley, then he decided to try and get inside, he lunged forward and Perunovic launched a quick devastating head kick, catching Hughes and all but put Hughes to sleep.  I don’t think there is anything else to do but to give the 4-0 Perunovic a title shot vs the Dumb Name vs David Miller winner.

Light Heavyweight Fight

#7 Clean Jaude Damn Vame (3-1 NGF) v #9 Heraldo Magnifico (10-4, 0-0 NGF)

This was a great fight, one that was entertaining and showed how good these two fighters are.  Damn Vame was looking to make it into the top 5 with a win, but he went up against a buzz saw in Herald Magnifico.  Herald was the more active fighter, early, he was throwing leg kicks trying to slow Damn Vame down, which I think he accomplished.  Clean Jaude was trading kicks and punches with Heraldo, but wasn’t landing as many.  Magnifico was the one who landed the significant strikes as he was able to cut and knock down Damn Vame with a nice combination.  In the 2nd, both fighters once again came out, no down time, just strikes.  Damn Vame was all kicks in the 2nd, leg kicks, body and head, but he just missed a few really significant once, just glancing shots.  Magnifico was able to counter 1 missed kick and rock Vame.  He then was able to end the fight 1:57 of the 2nd with a huge right hand that Damn Vame never saw coming as it looked like he looked at the clock for a moment.

Heavyweight Fight

#7 Oleg Alekseev (9-4, 5-2 NGF) v #14 Bob Probert (4-3 NGF)

Oleg Alekseev keeps it rolling with another easy one over Bob Probert.  I didn’t think this was going to be much of a fight and it wasn’t.  Bob Probert is simply a child when it comes to Alekseev.  Probert has no ground game, at least not up to the same level as Alekseev.  The only way Probert had a chance is if he could stay off the mat.  Well he couldn’t.  It was almost a mirror image of these two guys first fight, a quick take down, domination by Alekseev and then a bloody stoppage by the dr.  Get ready folks, because Alekseev is on a mission to get the heavyweight belt back.

Co-Main Event:

Light Heavyweight Fight

#6 Kert Nigobson (6-5, 3-2 NGF) v #8 Brett Riverboat (9-2, 4-2 NGF)

A disappointing fight from Kert Nigobson, but another fight that shows the light heavyweight division that Brett Riverboat is very close to a title contender.  It was a disappointing fight for Kert because he was the better fighter early on, things were going his way, but the fight all changed about 2:15 when Brett Riverboat launched a series of punches that rocked Nigobson.  Kert was cut and wobbly, he attempted a few take downs, but Riverboat dropped him again with a monster uppercut.  After that Nigobson tried to hold on, clinch and try and make it to round two.  It got really ugly as the Brett started landing big punches, the blood flowing out of Nigobson at this point, and at this point the fight should have been stopped.  There was no stoppage and Riverboat had no choice but to demolish Kert’s face, finally after around 7 un-necessary strikes landed, the ref did step in.  Even Riverboat had some pretty harsh words towards the ref for the late stoppage.  Brett Riverboat is a real force folks, Jack Poldi better take note.

Main Event

Middleweight Title Fight

#1 Facaloto Gals (11-4, 3-1 NGF) v #5 Purpura Mortis (7-2, 1-0 NGF)

I had this one pegged in the preview, these two warriors put on a show, all be it a short show.  It started with Facaloto Gals shooting in and getting the take down.  Both fighters battled there, as Gals was able to attempt a quick submission attempt.  Purpura Mortis was able to take advantage of a mistake by Gals and he got himself into a good position to drop some bombs on Facaloto.  Purpura was then able to get up and back to striking distance.  Gals then tried desperately to get the fight back to the mat, even doing it one more time, but Mortis quickly got back to his feet.  At this time you could see Gals breathing very heavy and he became still, to still.  He tried to close the distance, but not as quickly as we know him to be and he was rocked by a right hand from Mortis.  Still wobbly, Facaloto tried to catch a rushing in Mortis with a head kick, but Purpura dodged that easily, countered with a massive punch sending Gals to the canvas.  Mortis then pounded Gals, the ref stepped in and we have our NEW MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION PURPURA MORTIS!
