Immortals in the News

INY Musings by Richie Ciapelli , MMA USofA

The 265 division is looking very competitive with Devin Styles setting up a rematch and eliminator for a title shot against Kalashnikov on the Legends Return card. Styles earn’t the Kally fight when demolished Kurtz leading JLP to immediately boot him from his illustrious camp.

Rimes looks unstoppable now, can anyone live with this dude in the cage? Is he destined to be the next INY champ?

Others to impress at FN 35 were Leroy Jenkins who moved to 5-1 and now needs a serious test.

Renninger at 205 looks a talent, he battered a resilient Matthew Phoenix, who showed a lot of heart.

Lupe Pintor pulled out another upset at INY 51 when he outpointed Dayz who immediately asked for a rematch, but the streaking Pintor has taken on some serious opposition and deserves his shot at glory.

Milton Knight came out on top against Elvis Ronan, and has set up a mouth watering clash against former 205 champ Randy Turner. This will be a real war of the ages, with the winner likely to fight for the title.

Van Kirkland showed the old guard can still fend off the young beasts, when he submitted Ibakka in the 2nd. Ibakka immediately dropped down to 205 after the fight.

Simmons mashed Jackson, and meets Worthington next, in what should be a real cracker, as the Fox Jacobson camp are a rising force. Don Galactus has been patient with Simmons and is now seeing the rewards.

Poor Curtis Jackson had no sooner left hospital when he discovered he will fight Wilfrid Laurier on Jan 25. Jackson has been served up to a number of youngsters recently and this looks another night where he gets a concussion. This fight will probably be his last.

Makritsky is also starting to impress and finished Gaggle quicker than expected and has put early career defeats to Sparks and Nation firmly behind him.

Other news & fights to look forward to:

Franky Young 8-1 joins the 135lb ranks, will he give McLaren and Escobar an argument?

You can expect a lot of smack between Escobar and McLaren in coming weeks. This is a grudge match, as it seems Escobar’s fiancé dumped him for McLaren after seeing the amateur porn star showering post INY 50.

McLaren allegedly mocked Escobar claiming he would never make 135 if he was packing what he was. Members of the Melton camp had to physically restrain Escobar from attacking McLaren who was screaming “feast your eyes!!” Both Steel and Mike Melton have declined to comment on this embarrassing incident. Escobar is the bookies favorite to take the vacant 135lb title at INY 57.

At 145 the Jackson vs Gallgher clash is huge, and part of a historic month for the Melton camp who aim to hold a record number of INY belts at the same time.

Calirante signs from the Copeland camp and is scheduled to meet Arboleda who fights out of the same camp as Zayeed.

At 155 this weekend Corey Smith tries to emulate Mikhail Van Kirkland and send one of the young guns back into the ranks when he faces Zavier, who’s manager Assasi believes is the next World Champ.

Does anyone else share this view? Jimmy Young in the org will surely send a chill through some of the old guard who know how good the 2 org champ is.

Wellman Jnr also faces young Landers on Jan 12, can the fiery and sometimes controversial Wellman camp turn back time and hold off the charging young Landers who is already 8-3.

Can’t wait to see how good Nichi Hong is going to be when meets journeyman Beast from the East, East’s manager has claimed he will crush the young Hong, but Immortals staff, believe Hong will soon be mixing it with the contenders.

At 170 it’s the big one this weekend with Stewart finally fighting for the title against dominant world Champ, Erik Bennett.

We understand Shane Wellman is previewing this card.

At 185 Diggins vs Silva this weekend looks like a strikers war. Both these guys have good camps and a win will propel one of them into huge fight, possibly against Milton Knight.

A big fight this weekend at 205, though these guys are unknown but very talented is Jacobs vs Wilkens, a striker vs Wrestler affair between two talented operators. Definitely two fighters the current crop of contenders should keep an eye on.

At 265 Helmer vs Stenkov could be interesting, Helmer is 9-12 and Stenkov 0-4 after getting his ass kicked in the U21 tourney, so both these guys need a win. This is probably Stenkov’s last throw of the dice.

Zayeed is back, the controversial Arabian MMA Star is in action against Robert Hunt. This one should be fun, Hunt will probably piss Zayeed off by trying for takedowns and Zayeed will cuddle clinch Hunt and throw the elbows. Hopefully we will hear more from King Zayeed who is looking to break a 2 fight losing streak.

Heisman will look to dispatch Goldenberg with minimum fuss, and set up an exciting clash with Ben Dobson.

Spare a thought for the Riggs vs Bligh clash, Bligh is 0-3 and desperate for a win, so good luck to them both. Riggs has some useful wins but this should be a close fight.

That’s all for now.
