Event Preview: EPL4: Event Two
The Evil Empire
2012-11-28, Helsinki, Kamppi Arena
Author:Chris Garcia

First points granted, and we can start EPL for real now – Event Two in just few days will show why EPL is so tough competition, and why you have to think what you are doing during the fights. But first, few special fights outside of EPL, with first one…

…being a  Welterweight fight, between Yamamoto Takiyama and Tommy McTowlie. Both fighters are looking for a win, as their last fights wasn’t really spectacular – Takiyama scored a Draw, while Tommy tapped to Wolfe Larson’s Triangle Choke. Now submission wrestler from Japan will take on Russian’s “Insurance Policy” in a fight that may be last fight in VF for one of them. Win is more important than ever before, and both guys know it – and both will do everything they can, to sign one another W on their record.

Second fight will bring us to 145lbs limit, when “The Kid” Benjamin Belleville will take on former title contender, Jacob “Killswitch” Kellerman. Ben made his VF debut and Featherweight debut when he submitted Jesse Elovaara, showing his well-rounded skills. Jakob was a part of 145 Grand Prix, and lately lost by submission to current champion, when he was offered a title shot. He needs to redeem himself, and fight against skilled and hyped opponent like Ben may just do that. But don’t expect Belleville to just lay down and let Jake do what he wants.

This event will be marked as return of Grigoriev Maxim, who is 2-2 in his last for fights and 2-4 overall in VF. He needs to make an impact, with devastating and unanimous win. His opponent – Javed Iqbal Mughal on the other hand is looking for a big name to make his debut, and move on to fight his way up the ladder. His weapon of choice is his outstanding boxing, and with his solid wrestling he knows how to keep fight standing. Maxim will look to test his opponent’s takedown defense, as well as his chin on the ground. We are set for intense Lightweight fight here.

Time to move on – to the EPL bouts. First, will brings Evander Holyshit and Cookie Monster to the cage. Evander lost a decision in his first fight, but now he seems to be ready to deliver his specialty – Nasty KO. He had opportunity to test chins of the biggest names in the world today, and Cookie will be just another testing object. Testing object with chin already tested on last week’s event. Cookie lost by KO to Vijo Lane, and after that he won’t be 100% coming to this bout – he needs to finish it quick, or he will be FINISHED quickly.

Poncho Villa came to EPL on short notice, and he gets James Bomb in his first fight. Bad luck? Not for him. He fought wise, and he used his wrestling to control the fight – scoring Unanimous decision victory. His next opponent is Tyler Dignman, who started EPL with a “L” to Duncan McAlister – and now he has to face the heaviest competitor of this season. Tyler plans to win against all odds, but when odds weighs 300lbs, you should have a plan B for the fight. Poncho looks like someone who knows why he is here…and that’s not a good news for Tyler.

Johnny Ives scored a point in his first fight, but I doubt that this satisfy him. He wants to knock people out just for fun…not to mention that now he has another motivation. To be honest,  he has 3 millions motivations. Syezd Kepe Eses had a chance to make a name for himself and score huge upset, but he was KOed. Now, he will fight Dutch Beast, and he ain’t happy about it. What he is happy about – is another chance, to make an upset. And he will do his best, to come out victorious this time. Expect fireworks, and get ready for some being knocked out.

“Big” Duncan McAlister showed how important is controlling distance with your reach, when he outworked Evander, but now he has to focus on Nigel York, who didn’t impress fans or himself with a Draw against Ives. But he still suffers from his previous fight, he ain’t 100% and he won’t be 100% coming to fight day. That’s why Duncan is so confident, and so cocky – he knows it will probably be easy win for him. But he should re-watch Monster Vs Laine, to see what cockiness may do, and how it may affects outcome of the fight. To be sure who win, just watch this fight. It’s worth it.

James Bomb is someone who you want to watch, but you don’t want to fight him. This man is amazing, and he has rocker launcher in his arms. If he catch you with one punch, you are half way to dreamlands. High Voltage is his fellow Muay Thai destroyer, and with both guys having amazing highlights reels of KOs, they won’t even look to take it down. They will just stand in each other face, throw everything but the kitchen sink, and look for the finish. It’s everything they need. And that’s everything that fans want to see and what they expect from this fight. It’s gonna be perfect kickboxing showdown.

Charlie McGregor started this season in amazing fashion, with a KO of High Voltage. His second fight will be against another highly skilled striker – Evanston’s Playboy, Jake Ryan. Once again Charlie will have the opportunity to showcase his wrestling, and if he does that – he will walkout with another victory. Jake won against Evander, but he scored only 2 points – as he went to decision with Evander Holyshit. Now, it’s gonna be fight for points. They have nothing against each other, this fight is all about business, and we can expect tough 2 rounds, which will show everything that MMA is all about.

Tell what you want, but you can’t count out Vijo Laine. Not now. He was counted out against  Cookie, and he KOed him. And he make it look soooooo eaaaaasy. Who wants another upset? Because this week he jumped to Main Event against Colton Trayne, who is coming of a KO victory as well. Both are heavy handed, but what may be a big factor for this fight is Colton’s wrestling and BJJ, where he has  advantage for sure. Even if you give him advantage in striking as well, I don’t think he will risk standing up with “Beast” and his ridiculous power in his hands. It’s gonna be interesting to see what Colton will do in this fight, and it’s even more interesting to see what Vijo will do now.
