Thompson Wants The Belt!

Fighter profile of Ed Thompson by Kawika Kelly

Recently I went to talk to Ed Thompson to hear his reaction to Sliski Stiw's title win over Ed Thompson, and if you thought my last interview with him was crazy, wait until you hear what he says next.

KK: So Ed, you know why I'm here, and I'm gonna cut to the chase. How did you feel about Murphy MacManus losing to Sliski Stiw on June 30th?

ET: Well, I was hoping MacManus would win, that way I would kick his ass. But whatever, it happens. I'm not surprised that he lost, he missed a lot of his shots, he let Stiw take him down easily, and he did nothing when had chances to win the fight. He didn't take advantage. It's like he wanted to lose the title. His performance was as bad as Clay Guida's performance against Gray Maynard. I'm glad he lost the belt. He didn't deserve the title, and him losing the title was no surprise. What was a surprise was that Stiw actually used some boxing. Although it wasn't that good, but then again, Murphy Macmanus' head is not that hard to try and punch.

KK: I'm gonna guess you still have animosity towards Ma

Fighter Has Hip Hop Style

Fighter profile of Adam Yauch by Chad Didion

ST.PETERSBURGH-  Adam Yauch never had a MMA career in mind when he thought about what he wanted to do with his life.  He knew he wanted to use his hands, but thought they would be used to strum guitars or spin turn tables.  The road to this talented 18 year old fighter's first MMA win has many twists and turns, so lets start at the beginning.

Yauch was born an only child in Brooklyn New York, the son of a social worker, and a painter and architect. His father had been raised a Catholic and his mother was an American Jew. Yauch had a non-religious upbringing.

Yauch attended Edward R. Murrow High School in the Midwood neighborhood of Brooklyn. In high school, he taught hims

Checking out?

Editorial by Faust Bargain

New to being a manager? Having young and unruly fighters that have no clue how to handle money? Then take a look here to avoid falling into one of the traps out there.

This week I experienced something new as a manager, not one but two of my fighters got canned from their gym I had set up for them. The reason for this being their ignorence with their money, having only $600 on their acount on a thursday led them to get kicked from the gym that has fees of $600. Everybody knows that ofcourse you have to have atleast $800 in that situation, how else are you going to live without food or rent for a week which usually end up to around $200? After giving them a yelling of a lifetime the brothers finally got the point... and I sent them some extra money ofcourse to get back to training.

So check up on your fighters and make sure they have an extra $200 in their account when gymfees are due, so they don't have to go back to work to get some food on their table fo

Sebastian Valjean, A Crescent City Classic

About Me:

New Orleans, the Big Easy, the Crescent City. Thrust into the world wide spot light in recent years to due to the catastrophic man made disaster known as Hurricane Katrina. Famous for it's food, Mardi Gras, Bourbon St., the Saints, & the Hornets. But the real gem of the city is it's people. Not only do the residents of New Orleans like to have a good time. Not only are they extremely friendly. But they are extremely smart. They are extremely hard working. Through Hurricane Katrina, the world has seen the determination of all New Orleanians to keep their city alive, despite what some misguided fools in the media & elected offices might say. Now, New Orleans is once again in the world wide spotlight. This time, for a great reason.

Sebastian Valjean was born in the Mid-City area of New Orleans. Growing up across the street from the neighborhood boxing gym & a tae kwon do dojo, he obtained an immediate interest in all forms of fighting. As a small child, he would harass the atheletes who came out of these establishments, asking them anything he could think of about the different forms of fighting. It became an obsession of his. He worked up the courage at age 9 to ask for lesson, but before he could get the words out of his mouth, he was greeted with the  news that they would be moving. Sebastian's father, a systems analyst for an international congolmerate, was transferring to the Munich office for a huge pay raise.

The move to Europe was not a huge cultural shock for Sebastian. New Orleans has a very European feel due to the influence of the French & Spainish. He was able to quickly adapt to his new life style. It's here where he started developing interest in people. He love learning the differences in the people he met. Once he became a teenage, Sebastian took trips to neighboring countries to learn about their lifestyle as well. Sebastian never gave up his love for the fight game. He always became immediate friends with people who were involved i

Climbing Out Of The Hole

Fighter profile of Ippo Makounchi by Kawika Kelly

Ippo Makounchi has been regarded as one of the best Japanese practitioners of the art known as Brazilian Jiu jitsu. His accomplishments speaks for itself. 6-time Japanese BJJ Champion, The only non-brazilian to tapout the legendary Renato Laranja in a BJJ match, Defeated 3 Gracies in the same BJJ Tournament. The list goes on and on. This guy is a submission machine

The only problem is.................. he hasn't been able to bring that same success into MMA. You could say has had the worst luck out of anybody in MMA. Had a Draw and a Loss in his first two fights, almost got beat in his next fight until he popped an armbar out of nowhere for the win. He then lost a fight many thought he would win. He overcame that with a split decision over Kid Yamamoto. Unfortunately he was unable to carry that momentum, because he has lost two fights since then.

With his record being 2-4-1, and losing two straight, his back is against the wall. One more loss would put him in a hole few people is able to crawl out of. Despite that, he believes he will win his next fight, and become step closer to where he wants to be, at the top. "This upcoming fight will define my whole MMA Career", Ippo adds "I am gonna win this fight, and I will become the top of the food chain one day".

He has a lot of time to do that. At only 19, this straight-shooting prodigy is only beginning is career, and has a whole lot of time to become the best in the world at what he does. "I grew up in a family who is used to winning. Everything our family has done, victory always came our way. BJJ, baseball, etc. My family is used to success. I want to carry that into my MMA career, and I want to become the best. My dad always told me if I wanted to do something, become the best. Even though he's not here anymore, My dad would want me to be the best. So being the champ, becoming the best in the world, and winning is my way of being connected with my dad. I'm not just fighting for myself, and my family, I'm fighting in honor of my dad."

Heavy stuff, now with his back against the wall, is he able to carry on his promise for his dad? Will he come back and win his next fight? Will he become the best 130lbs fighter in the World? Only time will tell. All we can do is watch.

As we stand at the precipice of the Show down between Anderson “The Spider Silva and Chael “Do I ever shut up” Sonnen we have to wonder how the contest will unfold. With an undisputed underdog surprise in their first meeting it shows you can never count out anyone as when the cage door closes there is nothing but you to back up yourself up.
As we have seen many times at the CFA events as egos have been damaged, rising stars are watched and reputations put on the line.
Which of course is the Segway into “GO MAROONS” as the blues and New south Welshman open their tissue boxes and dry their eyes going down in the history books for allowing Qld to win a 7th straight State of Origin.
Stretching a winning streak and digging in the boots not unlike the 9 game winning streak 87-89 The MMA training centres and the CFA tonight has seen an influx of rugby players coming to see what it means to be hard as obviously the Princess Factor has taken hold as they can’t man up more often than not and with the last kick missing for extra time could only be described as CHOKE!
And with some great ground fighters making the weight ins and seasoned training sleepers such as Raphael Bowie oh yes a man who has had only 6 fig

Sharpe has made his way through the ranks and has appeared on International cards for the likes of Syn EURO. Sharpe is also famous for drinking fire water inbetween rounds, just because he can. Look for Sharpe to try and use his superior wrestling which will be interesting considering “Primetimes” BJJ creden
