A few yrs ago when the game was much more active I had around 20 fighters. But that during a time where the alliance i was in had at least 4 Alliance only private gyms in each city. Now I only have 13 and a few are either sparbots or a personal assistant to change clothes. But any less than that and it'll be to much waitin around.

Managing 10 fighters feels to much like work. I'm good at 7-8 I can easily hold the top 100 rank. Once I have 10 or more...I get lazy. My only hold up on going VIP at the moment. Did it in the past but was running a company back then.
