2014 Awards Question?

SteelPenn

Recommended Posts

I have a few of questions about the awards.

1. - In all voting, votes are anonymous. Political, religious, Sporting like NFL, MLB,NBA, NASCAR and the UFC are all private voting polls for their HOF or All Star Game or Pro Bowls. All private anonymous voting so why are we exposing who votes for who in our game?

2. - Are alliances allowed to vote for their alliance members, companies, orgs and so on? Will these votes count? I see a lot of alliances voting for their own members. Will their votes be stricken from the voting in these areas?

3. - If one votes for themselves does the vote count?

I would like to know these things so there is no miss understanding in our voting.

Yeah, I don't see any problem with seeing who voted for whom. About own votes counting, everybody that's mentioned can vote for himself and other candidates. If a candidate doesn't want to vote for himself or he wants to, it's up to him. And alliance's are not a problem. As you might know, there's alliances that host a huge amount of people. Imagine if all of them want to vote for their friend because they really appreciate what he did (for example, a best org vote) and then a nominee couldn't get up to 15 votes just because those guys are from the same alliance? That's not fine.

What needs to be considered is when people ask a lot for votes. I don't see much of a problem if you tell them you're nominated or just for them to check out, but it definitely is a little pain in the ass if you go asking for votes everywhere just to win it. I have received support from some alliance members, but it was done by their own will. I never asked for anything, even my nomination as mentor of the year by my mentee was surprising to me. If your alliance members feel the same and they feel you deserve an award, I see no problem if the whole crew votes for you. As long as it's not a mass voted previously arranged by the contender. It's no illegal, but it's not really "fair play".

There are yes and no answers to these questions that have been set up already its not a matter of how people feel or opinions now it already set in stone.

I would like to hear the facts about these rules I asked about.

Anyone remembers?

I believe its,

1. - In all voting, votes are anonymous. Political, religious, Sporting like NFL, MLB,NBA, NASCAR and the UFC are all private voting polls for their HOF or All Star Game or Pro Bowls. All private anonymous voting so why are we exposing who votes for who in our game? Answer = Becoase alliance are not allowed to vote for each other and we need to see who is voting to prevent this from happening or large alliances would win all categories.

2. - Are alliances allowed to vote for their alliance members, companies, orgs and so on? Will these votes count? I see a lot of alliances voting for their own members. Will their votes be stricken from the voting in these areas? Answer = Yes, you can not vote for alliance members. Same as above.

3. - If one votes for themselves does the vote count? Answer = No, you are not allow to vote for yourself the vote will not count.

I do not agree with these answers that is why I am writing but I am pretty sure these are the rules created and in affect.

I think I can give you an answer for the first one. It's just to keep people honest when they vote, not to stop alliance voting. At last year's awards or the year before someone made a bunch of multi accounts to vote in the polls. Can't remember if it was a thing to prove how flawed the system was or they legit wanted to cheat. Having it public helps fight against that sort of thing happening more often. They could leave it private, but then it opens it up for more abuse. Also mods would have to go thru the polls (assuming they can when it's private) themselves to make sure everything looks ok and that would take more time. Leaving it public helps with that as well.

---- Just my .02

Nvm, probably would best be answered by someone from voting committee lol.

I do understand its just a game but last year when I wrote to my alliance and org stating we are up for awards please go vote.

People freaked out saying I was cheating for asking my alliance and org to vote for our groups or myself.

So, If I was to write my alliance and org tell the group that the voting was in the forums to please go vote for our members and companies no one would have a problem with this?

It's the reality of the awards I think Steel Penn....these have always been more of a popularity contest and the hardcore guys realize who the real winners should've been.

I think you should be allowed to vote for your alliance-mates but it does suck when large alliances can control the awards. I prefer people just voting for who should legitimately win the award and not for their friends. Same thing really w/ voting for yourself. I voted for myself in certain awards and against me in others that I don't think I really deserve.

Pretty much what Sean said.

I understand. I will not write anyone or vote for myself. I will vote for alliance mates who have worked hard and deserve it.

The rules are against self-nominating. There are no rules against voting.

  1. For one it helps catch when many new accounts are created that all happen to vote for the same guy. There are other minor reasons, but I see this as the main one.
  2. That is legal. The only time this was an issue was when your alliance had a large number of your multi's in it. Legit accounts can vote for anyone they want. You say you no longer have the multi's, and so that should not be an issue.
  3. I voted for some of mine if that answers your question. Since I will be counting the votes I think you are safe. The key is only do it when you think it is deserved.

When we mail our alliance about awards voting we are very clear. These are the guys who are nominated, but only vote for ones you feel deserve it. There is no pressure put on anyone to vote a specific way. I make it very clear in the end their vote is theirs. If one of us does not deserve the vote we do not want it. Not everyone agrees who deserves what, but in the end the guy making the vote is the only one who has a say in where it is placed.

What this dude said

Only one i voted for that had anything to do with me was Convicted, because i believe we were alliance of the year. The rest of them i have voted accordingly as i view the contests. If i believe i should be in the running to win it instead of the others i refrain from voting all together.

I have received loads of message from different sources telling me to vote for them and I don't have a problem with it - It is no different than sports teams trying to get their players votes in all star games and awards voting etc.

I think we should consider putting together an awards panel for next year with one representative from each alliance, and perhaps 3 guest spots or something for members not in an alliance.

Everyone could nominate people for the awards as usual, but the voting on who wins would then come down to the awards panel, who wouldn't be allowed to vote for anyone affiliated with their alliance.

Very good idea something different

Don't see what the fuss is about. It's a popularity contest for competitive alliances, forum users and the guys active in chat, just a bit of fun. As a percentage of the numbers of players the game has and the number of different voters, claiming a title for something the majority don't have any interest in, means you shouldn't worry about it. I've had mails from guys asking for votes, I think it's fine, but maybe online dating might be an outlet also.

Yea, I really like this. You could still do the public voting thing, that could be the "people's choice" sort of thing. The one with the committee/reps from each alliance would be the grammies/oscars to the public's people's choice. If it's either or, then I like what Dirk suggested. Smaller, more focused and more balanced.

I think we did this two years ago and it did not work for some reason. See next to my name it says awards committee?

Happened before and failed badly. One committee member that year did not know who Jeremy Tonal was.

One thing we could do differently is to limit the amount of posters, avatars, logos one designer can enter. Maybe so that people can nominate freely but then the designer himself picks 2-3 of those nominated designs to go for the final vote or something.

Also, I don't quite get why you can choose multiple things to vote for this year. I think it should be one vote per one category.

I think a lot of the categories could be automaticly decided. The best nutrition and clothing shops would be the ones with the most weeks as number 1 in the game. The same goes for fighter and org of the year. Alliance of the year would be the one with the highest winpercentage.
