The Story of Kenneth "The Nigerian Nightmare" Omeruo

Recommended Posts

Whos next for Kenneth? Tbh I don't think there's anyone inside your org for you to face right now (a couple wins could change that) hopefully your org owner is looking too some top outside talent for you to face. Because facing Thor whos lost 2 of his three last fights, fighting Marshall again or shambles again just seems like a waste of time/wouldn't really enhance Kenneth's career too much. (I'm a Chelsea fan btw haha). Any other fighter however looks like an easy win/larger hype difference.

Paulo is a very similarly built fighter too Omeruo, however Contreras certainly has the skills to challenge Omeuro. Anyways I certainly think Island needs to start putting together some across the org superfights.

Kenneth has been offered the chance to fight Billy Hill (5-2), who is ranked #6 in the Lightweight division in the org. A fighter who couldn't even beat Andrzej Lisiowski.

Billy Hill has nearly half the hype Kenneth has, which is why I find the fight offer very strange.

Billy fight fall through mate? Probably for the best with the hype difference. The Can won his title fight if you want to come over and superfight him, The Can is number 3 in weightclass, probably be one of the biggest fights on the Island if not the biggest this season.

Yeah had quite a bit of a discussion with the org owner after seeing that fight offer. Think he's going to be fighting after some of the current Lightweights fight to see who's #1 contender.

As for a super fight, I'm really interested in it. Think it'll be a great fight :)

I think it's only fair we work out a way to benefit both orgs whether that be best of two series or you fight Paulo at Attack Fight League and I fight you at Chaos. Paulo has 124 total hype+pop (however that number thing is added up) which makes him still a top ten in WC.

Thoughts?

I'm up for it but Kenneth is still under contract at Chaos. Following the last set of discussions I had with the org owner, I don't think Kenneth will be resigning with Chaos.

4 fights left right? Sure we'll work something out before the finals. Hoping to fight a couple other top fighters in 155 before giving 145 a go.

Nice fighter thread Marky, you sure do like your Island fighters!

I just feel it's easier to do a thread about an Island fighter because it only last 6 months. Was tempted to do a thread for one of my current prospects (either Daniel O'Sullivan or Oscar Dos Santos) but was scared it'd take too much time.

Though if enough people would be interested, I might start up one for one of them :)

Great Job Marky was a very good read I love it when people do threads like this. Makes this game a lot more fun being able to learn alittle bit about the fighter on his way up.

Thanks man :) Haven't seen many other people do threads like this unfortunately :( Perhaps I'll inspire some other people to do a thread similar to mine.

Billy Hill wins, earns title shot vs Omeruo!

Following talks between Kenneth Omeruo's manager and the owner of Chaos, it was decided that Billy Hill would earn a title shot if he beat Layonel Marshall and if he didn't win then the title shot would go to the winner of the Charles Benneth / Boko Shambles fight.

The fight between Billy Hill (5-2) and Layonel Marshall (4-2) didn't last long. Marshall secured the takedown basically straight away however Billy Hill immediately started working for a submission and Marshall was tapping before the fight passed the 1 minute mark.

Billy Hill improves to 6-2 and Layonel Marshall falls to 4-3.

It's interesting that every single win Billy Hill has had has came in the first round by submission and only 1 of his 8 professional MMA fights have went the distance. Strangely enough most of Marshall's wins have came in the first round by submission as well.

Rumours have been circulating that apparently Billy Hill's manager has said that he is confident that his fighter Billy Hill will "stand and bang and KO" Kenneth Omeruo, even though all of Billy Hill's wins have came via submission. We find it strange that Billy Hill's manager has came out and said this... perhaps he's been smoking something that he shouldn't have been.

Billy Hill (6-2)

Layonel Marshall (4-3)

Kenneth Omeruo
26 year old
155lbs
6-1

Hi everyone, I'm with Kenneth Omeruo, speaking for the first time since that tragic loss at Chaos 18 against Billy Hill. Kenneth tell us about the fight.

Yeah man, it just started like any other fight, I came out and started doing my thing, stuffing takedowns and targeting his legs and body with my stinging kicks. I thought that this was one of the easiest fights of my career, the guy couldn't avoid one of my strikes and I was avoiding every single takedown attempt.

I came out the second round and I remember my corner telling me to be careful and not to lose my guard in case he did get me down to the ground and that's what happened, I got taken down to the ground, I panicked when he went for the kneebar because I nearly broke my leg in training when one of the guys I was rolling with attempted one of them and fair play to Billy Hill, he locked it in very quickly and there was nothing I could do except tap or have my knee broken.

The loss was a big shock and it stunned a lot of MMA reporters across The Island, especially considering how dominant you were in the first. Was it a case that you weren't throwing enough power in those kicks?

If you didn't think I was throwing much power in my kicks, why was his body purple and all bruised? I left my mark on him and yes I wasn't going all out with power with my kicks, mainly because I didn't want to miss one of the kicks and get taken down. Billy Hill is a good fighter. Maybe the next time we meet, I'm not going to be as nice when it comes to how much power I'll be putting into my strikes.

Some were saying that you weren't 100% focus going into that fight, talks of a breakdown between yourself and org owner, a potential super fight with one of the other top Lightweights on The Island... did any of these things affect you?

I think everyone knows that myself and the org owner don't see eye to eye. I do my business, he does his. Personally the way I see it, he can go **** himself once I'm finished my contract here. I'm not signing another contract. He's happy to keep me trapped here fighting nobodies. I'm one of the best Lightweights in this damn island, so I deserve to be fighting the best in my division.

The superfight really interested me and if I was honest I wanted that fight. I don't know what happened between the two org owners, I told the owner of AFL that I didn't have the power to get out of my contract and told him any potential deal would have to be worked out with the Chaos org owner. I didn't hear much else about the deal so I guess the fight will just have to wait for now.

I was focused on the fight, but I got a bit cocky going into that second round and ultimately paid the price for it.

Who do you see yourself fighting before your contract expires with Chaos? You seem to be popular amongst the Chaos fans and I'm sure they'd be interested in hearing about any of your future potential fights.

I want to fight Billy Hill again before I leave. I want to make things right. I know his manager has been talking a lot of shit and my manager has said a couple of things too but the guy really just pisses me off. It was just such a satisfying hitting him with my strikes back in Chaos 18 and I can't wait until I get back in there and do it again. I'd love to knock him out and then give him and his manager the middle finger.

But before fighting Billy Hill, I have to prove myself worthy of another shot at the title. Tyson Thor seems to be doing well since I TKO'd him, good for him, would be interesting to see him vs Billy Hill but I'm sure he's wanting a rematch with me and if he is, I say bring it!

Charles Benedict is 4-0, no losses to his name, would be a shame if I was the first fighter to put a loss to his name. Looks like he's fighting Billy Hill next, so that'll be a tough test for him but he seems like a good fighter and if he has punched a punch bag before, he'll be ready for Billy Hill's stand up.

Always great to speak to you Kenneth, thanks for your time!

My pleasure, thanks for having me.

Feel Kenneth is a bit stiff, won his first six fights, lost a fight which was close and now sentenced to fight a guy whos lost 4 of his last 5 fights in a fight where you seemingly don't have that much to gain other than the chance to test yourself against another ground guy. If you win you know you can beat them but gain little other than that, if you lose you take a huge hit.

Would've been good to see a rematch between Omeuro and Hill, given how it easily could've gone the other way.

I don't understand the match ups, I don't agree with them because I've found that I'm offered fights where Kenneth would have a lot higher hype than his opponent.

Kenneth Omeruo vs Boko Shambles

One of the fights on the main card at the Chaos 25 event is the fight between Kenneth Omeruo (6-1) and Boko Shambles (4-4). Boko Shambles is on a 2 loss streak and will be looking to get back to winning ways but has a very tough test in Kenneth Omeruo. This will be Kenneth's first fight since he lost the Lightweight title against Billy Hill and so will be looking to put in an impressive performance so he can try and convince the Chaos owner to give him a title shot.

Boko Shambles has a reputation for finishing fights, or getting finished in fights. In all 8 of his professional fights he has either submitted his opponent or else he has been submitted or KO'd. Boko is very dangerous on the ground as all 4 of his wins have came via submission. He will most likely be looking to take the fight to the ground so he can work his ground game and try and get a 5th submission win of his career.

Kenneth Omeruo on the other hand will be looking to come out and keep the fight standing at all costs. We have seen him in the past secure a submission win but without a doubt he'll want to play it safe and land a good number of strikes in the stand up.

Kenneth isn't normally one for finishing fights, with 4 of his 6 wins coming by decision. That being said, he may look to come out and finish this one quickly, especially when you consider how quickly things changed in his last fight where he lost to Billy Hill after dominating him in round 1.

We're especially looking forward to this fight on the Chaos 25 card. If you want to see a great fight between an elite striker and a submission specialist, you better not miss this fight!

Kenneth Omeruo (6-1)

Boko Shambles (4-4)

Good win, was surprised to see you follow him to ground given you didn't want the fight there, was nervous it was going to hurt you. Good win and showed submission guys aren't a huge weakness.

It seems wrestlers are destroying the strikers, and the bjj guys are destroying the wrestlers so far and the strikers beat the BJJ guys. All about styles/getting right matchups it seems come finals time.

Kenneth Omeruo's Profile

Stuck on the Island with the “Nigerian Nightmare”

The Island (Season 2) is a place where only the brave and ambitious venture, many have described it as like being in a controlled MMA version of the hunger games and it’s bad enough for most fighters, for the fighters of the Chaos lightweight division it’s just got a little worse. Kenneth “The Nigerian Nightmare” Omeruo up until the 9th of April was a man not very many would want to come across and now, after losing his Lightweight title to Billy Hill, he is a man that nobody – including the champion – wants to be forced to meet.

Our reporter from the Island, the beautiful Monica Francis, got chance to catch up with Kenneth Omeruo after his dominant victory over submission specialist Boko Shambles and get some insight on his thoughts of not only tonight, but the last month or so too;

Monica: Thank you for taking the time to speak with us Kenneth, I just want to say that was a great fight tonight and congratulations on the win, how did it feel out their?

Omeruo: Thanks Monica. If I'm honest, I felt the best I've ever felt, my training camp went really well and I'm thankful I didn't pick up any pre fight injuries. I went out there tonight feeling like I had a point to prove, I could have put Boko away 3 times, instead I wanted to prove that I can work on the ground and that I'm not just a one trick pony who can only do well in the stand up.

Monica: You've been a real force since signing with CHAOS, but after losing the lightweight title and not being granted an immediate rematch how important was it to win against whoever came your way next?

Omeruo: I knew that if I didn't come out tonight and put on a good performance, there would be a chance that I wouldn't get what I wanted which was a title shot. I put on a show tonight and Boko... well I guess he's Shambles by name, Shambles by performance. I'm determined to get that title back before my contract expires.

Monica: Where you disappointed in the matchmaking staff at CHAOS for not giving you a tougher challenge following the fight with Hill or do you feel it's just a case of earning your way back into contention once again?

Omeruo: The staff at Chaos and I don't see eye to eye on a number of things. I've been left pretty frustrated by a number of their choices in the past but there's not much I can do. I'm under contract and I intend on seeing out that contract, after it's finished who knows where I'll be going. Boko wasn't that much of a test for me, he was 4-4 and wasn't highly hyped and I showed why in my fight with him.

Monica: Other than the winner of Benedict/Thor for the title, is there any one particular fighter you'd like a shot at in CHAOS and you feel you could prove your challenger worthy credentials against?

Omeruo: I'd love another shot at Billy Hill. He's got a big mouth and I intend on knocking him out the next time we're both in the cage. I'll prove to everyone that his win was just lucky. Billy Hill has already got a fight lined up against Kuk which I don't see him winning, so I'd happily fight Kuk if Kuk wins. Other than that Ratanachai looks like he's doing well, 7 wins and only 3 losses but he's quite far behind in the rankings. I'd fight him, if he gets another win or two under his belt.

Monica: Thanks for taking time to speak to us Kenneth, is there any last messages you'd like to leave for your competitors, the fans or the world of MMA in general?

Omeruo: Big shoutout to my fans. I know there's a lot of people out there who follow me, so I'd like to thank them for their support. Finally I just want the rest of the Chaos Lightweight roster to know, I'm coming for that title, and nothing will stop me from getting it!

Another great interview by Monica and you really get a sense of just how obviously fired up and angered Kenneth Omeruo is by the match makers decision not to grant him a title fight but surely he must be due for one soon, particularly after such a dominating performance today. A re-match against Englishman Billy Hill, who he lost the title too, in a number one contenders fight, is the rumour flying around the Island today but we wait to hear any official word from Chaos officials. We’ll have more as it breaks, stay with us for more on this story.

BREAKING NEWS!

Following Championship Press Association's interview with the "Nigerian Nightmare" Kenneth Omeruo and report yesterday evening/early this morning, CPA reporter from the Island Monica Francis has learned that Kenneth Omeruo has parted ways with CHAOS. It was clear tensions were running high on both sides before the Omeruo's fight and the report was released but they have reached breaking point and the fighter and organisation will no longer be working with each other.

More to follow.
