What does it mean to be a Gentleman? Is it somebody that puts their actions before words? Is it somebody that gives it their absolute all? On 28 Jul 2018, we find out.

Gentleman’s Fighting Club is the latest fight organisation to land in London and it all starts at GFC 1: The Show. Without further ado, here is the first ever GFC card from top to bottom:

THE MAIN EVENT

Petey “The Polar Bear” Bartlett (16-3-0) vs. James “Unununium" Pearson (7-2-0)

Super Heavyweight @ 265+ lbs

He is the highest ranked fighter within GFC. He is an 8x TIT World Champion. He has been ranked as high as #51 in the P4P Worldwide Rankings and has three KO of the night awards to his name.

He is Petey “The Polar Bear” Bartlett.

Petey “The Polar Bear” Bartlett was one of the best fighters in the world. He dominated Season 7 of The Island. So much so that MMA fans called him The King of the Island. He reached the semi-finals of the end of season Heavyweight tournament before losing to eventual winner Amir Abdallah. Another loss followed and Bartlett found himself without a manager. From hero to zero in three months.

Enter Roman Benson, Bartlett’s new manager. It may just be the perfect pairing. Benson had been looking for that breakout fighter. And Bartlett had been looking for another chance. He finally gets it on 28 Jul 2018. Some critics believe that he’s been out of the MMA game for too long. But at 29 years old, he still has plenty to give in the cage.

Being the main event of the evening, it’s a five round fight. Despite being in 19 fights, Bartlett has only been in the fifth round once in his career coming out on top on the scorecards. At GFC 1: The Show, he faces a fighter that has never…never been past the first round.

James “Unununium” Pearson gets it done. He doesn’t care what round it is. He doesn’t care how many fights you’ve had. While you were busy losing, he was busy training. He has some of the best wrestling in the world and enters this fight on a 3-fight win streak.

It’s going to be quite a spectacle and not only because Bartlett will tower over his opponent with a 30cm height advantage. If Pearson does have any weakness, it’s his Jiu Jitsu. Both of his losses have come via submission. But that shouldn’t be a concern going into this fight because he faces an outright striker. It’s going to be explosive.

It’s going to be one hell of a show.

Bon “Jons” Bones (6-3-0) vs. Top “Slick" Heavy (6-4-0)

Light Heavyweight @ 205 lbs

A down-and-out ex-Champion meets the #1 ranked Light Heavyweight in this incredible matchup. Bon “Jons” Bones is part of a rare group of elite fighters, having won championships in not one but in two different organisations. His quick rise to fame earned him a lucrative contract at New Jersey MMA. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as well for him there and after two straight losses, Bones was out of a job. It has left the Rochester native low on confidence, something that new manager Jessie James has to address. He won’t be getting an easy ride however as he takes on the formidable Top “Slick” Heavy.

“Slick” is the perfect nickname and no doubt Top’s superior BJJ skills will be on full display here, just like they were in his last victory when he won via a Triangle after just 32 seconds. It earned him the Sub of the night.

If the fight does go to the ground, then it could get ugly for Bones. But getting there won’t be such an easy task. Bon Bones has great takedown defence that has served him well in his career so far.

Top “Slick” Heavy is a true mixed martial artist and that may make all the difference. Like a Swiss Army knife, Heavy can beat you in a number of different ways. Unlike the Swiss…he is extremely violent.

Don’t miss this fight.

Steve Austin (4-2-0) vs. Yusuf Mehadi (2-0-0)

Welterweight @ 170 lbs

A 3-fight win streak meets a 2 fight win-streak in this mouthwatering Welterweight affair. Steve Austin burst onto the MMA scene when he submitted his debut opponent in just 35 seconds. Since then, he has been hailed as one of the better ground fighters. Pick your poison. Austin can punch you senseless with his ground and pound. Austin can choke you out with his submissions.

He faces the undefeated Yusuf Mehadi. Mehadi has come under some criticism in the MMA community for not finishing either of his two fights. We think that’s ridiculous. It wasn’t for lack of trying. Mehadi threw an incredible sixty punches on his feet in his last fight. He likes to go toe-to-toe. That’s more than Steve Austin has thrown in his entire career.

It’s your typical ground vs. striker fight. The loser will have to adjust their training plan. The winner will begin their climb up the GFC rankings.

Jack MaHogOff (3-2-0) vs. Juece "“Box”” Likke (2-0-0)

Middleweight @ 185 lbs

The enigma that is Juece "“Box”” Likke. Two fights. Two wins. But the undefeated middleweight from Tulsa refuses to join a gym to train. There is no denying that Likke has natural talent but that lack of work ethic may come back to haunt him at GFC 1.

Jack MaHogOff has joined a fight organisation before. It was EFA. It was one fight. And it was a crushing loss. He rocked his opponent in the first round. He continued to dominate in the second. But just as it looked like he was strolling towards an easy win, he got caught with a guillotine in the third and final round. MaHogOff will be hoping that this time is different. He bounced back with a KO win in his last fight. Another win here will put that EFA nightmare behind him once and for all.

Ben Tong (4-1-0) vs. Joseph “Holy War Angel” Davis (4-2-0)

Heavyweight @ 265 lbs

Ben Tong is too small. Ben Tong has been lucky. Ben Tong is overhyped. That’s what the critics say. Walking around at 220 lbs does make Tong a small heavyweight but to that he says, go and check out my heavyweight fights. We did.

Tong has fought twice at light heavyweight, splitting the results. Tong has fought three times at heavyweight, winning all three contests. He is exactly where he belongs.

One thing no one can ever accuse Tong of is giving up. The man from Beijing, China just keeps going. Abdul Lee knows all about it. When the pair faced off in Tong’s debut, Ben was coasting towards a victory. He found it easy to get the takedown. With four seconds left in the fight, Tong apologised to his opponent.

“I’m sorry sir, but I’m gunna break your leg”

Ben Tong won via a kneebar.

When he’s in the cage, the fight can end in an instant. Good thing then, that he now faces a like-minded opponent.

Joseph “Holy War Angel” Davis comes to kill. Having never been past the first round, he has lost in 24 seconds, he has won in 5 seconds. Yes you heard that correctly, Davis knocked someone out cold in the time it normally takes a fighter to get from one side of the cage to another.

Do not blink.

Walter “Twinkle Toes” Shield (5-1-0) vs. Dan “The Man” Thatcher (4-1-0)

Light Heavyweight @ 205 lbs

It is a chance at redemption. A chance to prove that their last fight will not define them. Both Walter Shield and Dan Thatcher were undefeated. Shield was 5-0-0. Thatcher was 4-0-0. Everything was going perfectly. The hype train was running full steam ahead. But then Shield lost. And Thatcher lost. And that is where we are now. Both fighters are looking to bounce back from their first losses.

Sometimes a KO loss changes a man. When that soft skull gets squeezed between the opponent’s fist and the cage’s mat, the defenceless fighter loses a piece of himself. Who has recovered for this fight? Where are these fighters at mentally? And most important, who is going to win and get themselves back on track?

We can’t wait to find out.

Cardo “Probinsyano” Dalisay 45-1-0) vs. Naruto Uzumaki (2-1-0)

Featherweight @ 145 lbs

Naruto Uzumaki is a quiet and unassuming figure. He has been called out. He has been shouted at. He has been punched in the face repeatedly. Only for him to do what he does best - his job. Uzumaki listens to his manager’s every word. He doesn’t get caught up in the entertainment aspect of MMA. He’s here to fight. And he’s very good at it.

Uzumaki’s two wins have come via two different submissions. One from the top. One from the bottom. The only thing they had in common? They both came in the very first round. Make no mistake, yes this is a quiet man. But this is an extremely dangerous man.

The good news for Cardo Dalisay is he has a good record, only having one loss. The bad news for Cardo Dalisay is, he lost that fight via submission. We know which fighter will want to take this fight to the ground. But Dalisay has a not-so-secret weapon of his own. If this fight goes into the clinch, Dalisay is going to cause an insurmountable amount of pain.

Jake “Bonecrusher” Bishop (5-1-0) vs. Mehdi “Albanian Bull” Januzaj (1-0-0)

Light Heavyweight @ 205 lbs

They say it takes seven seconds to make a first impression. Mehdi Januzaj’s career has so far lasted nine seconds. That’s how long it took him to knock out his debut opponent. I pee for longer than that. This is a man that has some serious KO power. He may just be one of the hardest punchers in the division. We don’t know. We haven’t seen enough of him. The “Albanian Bull” remains a scary enigma.

Something we do know, is that at GFC 1 he faces a submission specialist. Five wins. Five finishes. Five submissions. Gullotine. Rear naked choke. Triangle choke. The man is a force to be reckoned with. The man is Jake “Bonecrusher” Bishop. If Bishop does have a weakness, it’s that he tends to cut, something that let him down in his last fight and his one and only loss. But we have a pretty good feeling that Jake Bishop will be back to crushing bones soon enough.

Alexander “Hammer” Nielsen (2-1-0) vs. Shrek Life (1-0-0)

Heavyweight @ 265 lbs

He may have been born with a strange name. But there’s nothing strange about Shrek Life’s talent in the cage. He is a rare brown belt in a stacked heavyweight division. He can take you down from the striking position. He can take you down from the clinch, just like he did in his debut. He can bring that ground and pound. He can bring that submission skill. Now who’s laughing? This is no cartoon ogre.

This is a real life monster.

Real life monster. Meet Alexander “Hammer’ Nielsen. We’re never quite sure which Alexander Nielsen we’re going to get on the night. Is it the Nielsen that limped his way to a split decision victory in his debut fight? Is it the Hammer that won the Fight of the night award in his second fight? Or will it be the blue belt who was capable of making someone tap out in his third fight?

Whichever Alexander Nielsen turns up at GFC 1, it’s going to be a lot of fun.

Gerald “The First” Butler (2-0-0) vs. Luke “Royal” Rammun (1-0-0)

Lightweight @ 155 lbs

It just makes sense that Gerald “The First” Butler will be the first fight of the evening. Some organisations like to start things off slow with a warmup fight for the crowds still trickling in. Not us. We kick things off with a battle of the undefeateds. Butler has won both of his fights via the judges’ scorecards and would love nothing more than to get a finish here. The fighter opposite him knows all about finishes. Rammun beat his debut opponent via first round submission but that was against a 0-3-0 fighter.

This is a huge step up for the man from Perth. He’ll be a long way from home but should feel right at home if the fight gets taken to the ground.

This is it. This is GFC 1: The Show.

We hope you have enjoyed this preview. Be sure to make your predictions below!

I’m Brian Fujitsu, may the best gentleman win.

James "Unununium" Pearson (7-2-0)

"Yeaaaah bwoii! First headliner in GFC history against some hirsute motherfucker from like, real far up north. Just the way I like it.

People keep tellin' me, Jim, Petey Bartlett is a bonafide legend, why the fuck are you fightin' him? And I tell 'em, listen motherfucker, legends fade to myth long after they're gone. After I murder Petey Bartlett with these hands and send his spirit to the valley beyond, people are gonna talk about him like he's fuckin' Beowulf. Afterwards, imma use my hard earned win bonus to get a facial tattoo and put an unununium satellite in orbit so that I can talk to God. Why? Cuz I wanna fight him next."
