Every avatar uses real person as a base. What originality are you talking about?

Don't get me wrong. This work is exceptional. When judging an avatar I look at a few aspects. Creativity and individuality are where the design aspects come into it. Then, I measure the workmanship, detail and simplicity. There are cases when the work is to such a high standard in one aspect (say workmanship in this example) that falling short in other areas doesn't affect the overall impact of the piece. Admittedly and on reflection, I concede I have been a little harsh.....I guess it's the subject- I just don't see what what football has to do with anything....?

Side note: If I'm honest, I wanna win this damn thing (and earn it) for the right reasons. I know this part of the game (voting) is as much a popularity contest as well as anything and I shouldn't take it too seriously, but I see a lot of people voting for the same people in a few of the awards. It's understandable as we all wanna support our bredwins and I'm aware it actually requires a lot of patience to trawl thru other nominees to really check the competition........I understand that it's much easier to vote for someone that you know or even just pick the one who is most familiar. Afteral how do I know what so and so (other candidate) has done for the public and/or "hey well. the guy helped me out once, so I will vote for him"?

All said and done it's just a game and some of the leaders really do deserve to win- eg Hetfield looks like a number one favourite in many of the votes and I must say his long-standing craftsmanship is up there with the best. He may even win all the awards he's been nominated for....

On a final note I hope everyone votes for the best avatar and not the person as there are plenty of medals to go around and I for one would like to see the right people win the right awards (fairly and honestly). May the best avatar win! Good luck Hetfield. You are one hell of a guy and designer I will say that.

17 and 18 are right up there with Johns work, in my opinion, so I'd be proud of those even if you don't win.

But on a side note(and being fully honest w/ no offense intended), your latest batch greatly lacks in comparison to the first batch. Just my two cents. Good luck!

No offence taken. I actually agree. I went back to the drawing board so I can up my game. I'm working on some impressive pieces that I am much happier with their direction (right down the pipe). To be exhibited at a later date.

When people make a request for an avatar, they can submit whichever image they want. They have a certain idea what they want to see, and then it is to the designer to make that idea a reality. So when someone is a Manchester United fan, they can gladly have an avatar based on it. They may want to do smack talk with their fighter as a big fan,or even being a player. One may not agree with it, but at the end of the day it comes down to creating the work someone requests of you.

I do feel you really are honest when you say you want to win this thing, going by your critique and the PM I received in regards of the vote. But I also do feel you are being a bit forceful into people trying to vote for your work. It also appears you fear people may vote for me just because I made something. I am sure this is not the case.

"When judging an avatar I look at a few aspects. Creativity and individuality are where the design aspects come into it. Then, I measure the workmanship, detail and simplicity."

Those seem to be good standards to have for me when it comes to judging, but would also be good standards to have when creating avatars. Because I feel you are being dishonest and are making that judging criteria up just to stimulate folks to vote your way. Because even though your nominated work does look great, only editing the eyes in one case just does not do it for me. I am all for keeping it simple, but I also like to keep it real and not act like some superior designer. These are just avatars, nothing more, nothing less. Sometimes the whole look makes it a great piece, sometimes the background makes it look better than it really is, sometimes its just a great edited face and a crap background. But thats what it is, it's just some tidbits from MMAT slapped onto a real person for entertainment sake.

I have a feeling you may be a bit competitive and are doing what you can to win, but come on bro. I tried helping you with photoshop settings and you still go on the attack. I don't know why that is, but whatever works for you. I'm sure you will do well this year with designs as you are looking to win an award for last year already. But if this is how you play the game, just don't contact me again.

Yo . I didn't mean to upset you man. If what I said seemed like an attack then fully and sincerely apologise. It's possible that I got carried away in spirit when my main point has gotten drowned in the squagmire. I will say in other words that many of your other pieces would have been better in representing your work than the avatar we mentioned. I think you've done better work, much better all round in ALL aspects as well as creatively. Real design masterpieces. Heck, there's one you made for me for the TechnoViking which ticks 10 out of 10 in ALL aspects. You have helped me out with tech issues (which I hold in high regard), so why would I slate you? I wish no more ill regret or hostility.

My only wish is that your best work and my best work both get nominated this coming year. You won't hear anything from me, I will let my work do the talking. I will however be competing (properly) for the Avatar of the Year Award 2018 and I hope you can bring your best work. Be great if the other avatar creators brought their shit to the table too, so we can have a proper face-off.

Take it how you will dude. I for one am excited to see the results for best avatar. I love a challenge and if you win, you defo deserve it.

I actually prefer non-gif avatars, that stay close enough to the original MMATycoon avatars.

My best avatar effort, in a combined work with Max Octane who polished it fantastically, made it to avatar of the year 2015.

http://www.mmatycoon.com/fighterprofilepublic.php?FID=247480

I could not post the picture from my phone, so check the link above.

If someone could post the image on here, that would be great.

I would love to see someone with the talent of Beck do something similar;staying close to the actual original avatars and work around it. I am confident that with his skills and knowledge, it could be epic!

This reminds me of an NHL All Star Vote several years ago when the fans played a practical joke and voted in John Scott, a career minor leaguer.

I think a year or so before that, a totally random player (Rory Fitzpatrick) was almost voted in, showing how absurd these voting contests are, however, the NHL nixed that.

I applaud Humors efforts with free avatars throughout the year, but there are several on here that are significantly superior, IMO. Also, A+ for effort in canvassing votes, pretty impressive.

Yep, I have been saying that awards format should be changed in order for those awards to start meaning something. Now, if you have enough buddies you can win every award.

Notice to people that respective of Mike's decision that Humors was not eligible for awards this year, his nominees in this award are no longer valid. As announced with the other candidate removal in the Best New Manager thread, removing his option from the Poll could potentially render those votes unable to choose their winner from the remaining options. All eligible voting managers who this affects have been messaged.
