Usman vs Masvidal: who ya got?

Recommended Posts

20 lbs to cut in 6 days and a trip to Emirates... Gamebred is gonna have 3-4 minutes to kill after that Usman is gonna Usman him for 5 rounds playing it safe :(

I wish Masvidal had not accepted this but on the flip side he is getting PAID so there is that.

Luckily for him tho Usman is probably cutting that amount on weight cut day. As he probably weighs 200+ easy before prepping for his weight cut. As long as he spends the next few days working little weight off it'll be another day in office come Friday for him. Problem with that is he's spending more time on weight cut on a short notice instead of prepping for Usman without his cornerman who he is tight with, the guy whose taught him most of the techniques he uses.

Meanwhile does Usman have Whitman in his corner? Mas losing Brown and Usman gaining Whitman would be a huuuge swing imo.

for one I dont believe this is normal short notice, Jorge has been training flat out to be ready for this fight, I have no doubt he is 100% ready and was training full time just in case. I am surprised Usman took it as he has everything to lose and nothing to gain, If he wins the short notice BS will come out. I am actually very impressed Usmans team took this fight on such short notice, it means they are very confident.

I do think Jorge has a chance for the KO and has the better stand up but I also think Usman should win comfortably if he fights the right game plan which is pressure against the cage and work him non stop for 5 rounds

20 lbs is not a walk in the park for 6 days, 10-11 yeah that`s different but 6 is craaazy.

One thing that you need to understand about cutting weight is that at a certain point you stop sweating. There is nothing left to sweat, this takes away so much of your energy and training.

Masvidal has been training but those 20 lbs are going to feel like hell and will take a toll on fight night.

I asked a young swedish TKD champ last year what was his favorite TKD moment of each year. It wasn`t the medals, or the wins, or the trips with teammates, or representing Sweden or his mum getting a car paid by their country. He looked at me with that lovable, cold look Swedish people give and he says: " You know when we fight in Vegas at the Westgate and after the weight-ins it`s time to eat? Well I wait all year to hit the 2 PM Buffet at the Westgate. THAT is my favorite moment in all of TKD".
