SLAUGHTERHOUSE 6 PREVIEW

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1446900274sh6.png

Robert McCall v Ryo Narushima – 205 lbs

Both these fighters suffered losses the last time they performed and both are determined to set that right as they prepare to face off in this light heavyweight bout. 21 year old Robert McCall is a boxer with a professional MMA record of 5-2, with all five of those wins coming knockout. Ryo Narushima is a Muay Thai specialist with a good wrestling game to back it up; the 35 year old is at a height disadvantage here though and that might give McCall the edge in this contest. Most likely this fight will remain on the feet, Narushima doesn't tend to shoot for takedowns much at all and in seven fights McCall has yet to be taken down. Both fighters will look to play to their strengths with McCall focusing on his boxing and Narushima trying to set up head kicks; one way or another, a KO seems the most likely outcome.

Prediction: McCall by third round KO.

RP McMurphy v Decker Dogwood – 265 lbs

Two fighters making their Slaughterhouse debut in this heavyweight matchup. “Machine Gun” RP McMurphy is a 29 year old wrestler fighting out of Montreal, Quebec. Former 265lb TTFC champion, McMurphy had a very promising start to his career with eight successive victories before stalling more recently with three successive losses in title fights. With a fresh start at Slaughterhouse, McMurphy will be eager to begin by dispatching his first opponent, 18 year old boxer Decker Dogwood who hails from Rhode Island. Dogwood has great potential considering his age but comes into this match as a heavy underdog. McMurphy's standup game is on par with Dogwood's and the gulf in grappling ability will become rapidly evident the second this fight goes to the ground. This is the perfect opportunity for McMurphy to demonstrate his skills and the expectation is that he will do so.

Prediction: McMurphy by first round KO.

Holt McCoy v Sungwon Jung – 205 lbs

This promises to be a colourful matchup as submission specialist Holt McCoy takes on stand-up fighter Sungwon Jung. At 30 years of age, McCoy's experience in the ring is still somewhat limited with his 7-1-1 record, however all seven of those wins have come via submissions – armbar, ankle lock, triangle, you name it. Meanwhile the vast majority of 25 year old Sungwon Jung's victories have come via KO. Jung is the much more well rounded fighter and is more than capable on the ground, although in this particular instance you would imagine he will avoid tempting fate by grappling with a submissions artist. Holt's gameplan will be to get this fight to the floor as soon as possible, while his boxing is of a good standard he is no match to the superior stand-up game of Jung. As long as Jung keeps a cool head this should be another 'W' in the books, if this fight finds its way to the ground Jung could discover himself in murky waters.

Prediction: Jung by first round KO.

Saiyan Southbrook v Stew Sauced – 205lbs

Saiyan “Kill Switch” Southbrook is a talented young fighter hailing from Philadelphia. After dispatching Charlie Simpson in a mere 19 seconds into his Slaughterhouse debut, he now looks to take on former light heavyweight champ Stew Sauced. Unfortunately for Southbrook, Sauced might just be a bridge too far – the Irishman is coming off a loss in his title rematch to Kuma Nelson and will be eager to earn another shot at the belt. Stopping Southbrook in his tracks would certainly send a message to the rest of the division and that is exactly what Sauced will aim to do. If Saiyan can turn on the kill switch here and deliver an upset that would certainly propel him into title contention, but a loss won't be too much of a set back for the promising 23 year olds fledgling career.

Prediction: Stew Sauced by decision.

Parker Phoenix v Hugo Lewis – 185lbs title fight

Parker Phoenix has started his Slaughterhouse career with aplomb, winning via unanimous decision on his debut before knocking out Nyffe Pehmytkudos to take the middleweight championship. At 24 years of age, Phoenix is a well rounded fighter with a bright future ahead of him but he faces a tough test in the form of 30 year old challenger Hugo Lewis. Like Phoenix, Lewis is a true mixed martial artist and has spent much of his career fighting in Hilo before a brief stint in Ascension prior to signing with Slaughterhouse. That additional experience may prove vital against the younger champion. Phoenix prefers to box and can do so effectively both outside and in the clinch, Harris is more versatile mixing in leg kicks and will shoot for takedowns on occasion although expect this one to stay standing as both fighters look to test each others chins. All three of Phoenix' losses come via KO while Lewis has been knocked out on occasion too; with the middleweight title on the line these two warriors should put on a hell of a show.

Prediction: Lewis by third round KO.

Rusty Driver v Svyatoslav Vakarchuk – 265lbs

Boxer meets BJJ specialist in this heavyweight bout. Having knocked out Ville Alho on his Slaughterhouse debut, 26 year old Rusty Driver has his sights set on a repeat performance against 24 year old BJJ black belt Svyatoslav Vakarchuk. Vakarchuk may well prove to be a much tougher customer however. The 24 year old uses ground and pound to set up submissions and if he can get this fight to the mat it may well be over. Driver's wrestling ability is underrated but will still be no match for the superior grappling of the Ukrainian. No question about it, Driver will want to keep this fight on his feet at all costs. It's also worth noting that out of his 14-7 MMA record, not a single one of Driver's fights have gone to a decision – this one will almost certainly end in either a knockout or a submission.

Prediction: Vakarchuck by first round submission.

Donald Evans v Kocoa Ebone – 205lbs

Prior to his last fight, Ebone was coming off a three fight losing streak and questions were being asked over the talented but mercurial 24 year old's prospects. Fortunately last opponent, Neil Murray, generously took Ebone into the clinch early in the first round and promptly got slaughtered. Ebone will look to continue his winning ways here and will be hoping that 22 year old Donald Evans' relative inexperience will enable him to control the action. Don Evans is making his Slaughterhouse debut and with a MMA record of 7-2 is a less known quantity. Like Ebone, Evans prefers to keep the fight standing but in this instance he might opt to take the fight to the ground – two of Evans' seven victories have come via submission. However, avoiding the clinch will be paramount against Ebone so any takedown attempts must be well timed. This should be a fascinating tactical battle.

Prediction: Ebone by first round KO.

Don Diego v Robbie Alcatraz – 170lbs

Two experienced fighters making their Slaughterhouse debut in what should prove to be a tightly contested affair. At the age of 29, Don Diego already has built up an extensive MMA resume with three CFH/WFC titles all at different weight classes, more recently he has been showcasing his talents at CEC and Ascension and now looks to make a big impact on his Slaughterhouse debut. His opponent is 37 year old veteran Robbie Alcatraz who likewise has ample experience alongside numerous title defences. However, Alcatraz is coming off a two fight losing streak and will be looking to mark his 50th professional fight with a return to winning ways. Although both fighters are more than capable of the ground, both Alcatraz and Diego prefer to keep the fight standing. If the fight moves into the clinch keep an eye out for Alcatraz's elbow and knee work which could spell trouble for Don Diego. “The Fox” will like his chances here though, at 37 there are question marks over how well Alcatraz's body is holding up and he did look out of gas by the end of his last fight. Physically, Diego should be at his prime and that may well be just enough to give him the edge over the experienced veteran.

Prediction: Diego by second round KO.

CO-MAIN EVENT

Bruce Hardman v Michael D Amato – 265 lbs

This is a heavyweight matchup between two boxers who thrive on knockouts. Hardman comes into this fight with a 11-4 record and fresh off a win against Thor Boschat in his last Slaughterhouse outing. Amato has a similar record at 14-5 but suffered a first round knockout last time against 43 year old Vince Dixon, he comes into this fight eager to return to winning ways. Looking at the combined records of these two fighters will tell you a lot – of those 25 wins, all but two have come via knockout; and of those 9 losses, all but two have ended via knockout. The likelihood of this fight going the full three rounds are extremely slim.

Both fighters will most likely look to keep this fight standing and with such an evenly matched contest this could well be decided by a lucky punch or a momentary lapse of concentration. Hardman does possess a five inch height advantage which may well give him the edge in what is otherwise a very close matchup.

Prediction: Hardman via first round KO.

MAIN EVENT

Kuma Nelson v Hughtavious Mingo – 205 lbs title fight

Former Soul/UFF champion Kuma Nelson takes on the youthful Hughtavious Mingo in this light heavyweight championship bout. At 35 years of age, Kuma Nelson has a wealth of experience and the skills to match – “The Lucid Nightmare” has notched up a lifetime record of 31-11 including nine title fights and numerous knockout and fight of the night awards. Despite losing his Slaughterhouse debut to Stew Sauced, Nelson was eager for revenge and dominated Sauced over the course of five rounds to claim the belt. Predominantly a stand-up fighter, Nelson is an extremely technically proficient fighter with a large arsenal of strikes and kicks to keep opposing fighters at bay.

However, his opponent for this bout is one Hughtavious Mingo who, despite his age, has already developed into a knockout machine with 14 of his 17 wins coming via KO. Mingo is 23 years of age and is already generating a big following due to his explosive style and penchant for turning the lights out on his opponents. A boxer first and foremost, Mingo likes to work on the outside but is also more than capable of mixing it up in the clinch as evidenced by his last fight with Robert McCall which quickly ended in a first round KO. For this fight however, Mingo may well prefer to work from distance and look for that knockout punch rather than risk Nelson taking him to the ground.

This should be a very entertaining matchup and it will be interesting to see how both fighters approach this one. Both fighters will need to adopt intelligent game plans; Mingo will almost certainly look to keep this fight on the feet but needs to be wary of Nelson's ability to grind an opponent down via leg/body kicks. For Nelson it is more a question of where he wants this fight to take place, Nelson's may well prefer to play to his main strength in the stand-up game, but as the more skilled BJJ practitioner it will be intriguing to see if he goes for the takedown should the opportunity present itself. Both fighters have good gas tanks so this fight could well go the distance; despite Mingo's KO power it is worth noting Nelson has only been knocked out twice in his extensive career and his granite chin may well prove to be the difference in what should prove to be an enticing matchup.

Prediction: Nelson by decision.

SLAUGHTERHOUSE 6 REVIEW
http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1446900274sh6.png

UNDERCARD

Robert McCall v Ryo Narushima – 205 lbs

What had been billed as a close fight turned into a dominant performance by Ryo Narushima. Within 30 seconds of the opening bell Narushima took his opponent into the clinch and devastated him with a series of knees to the body and face, setting the tone for the duration of the fight. McCall did little to attempt to break the clinch and a result rapidly found himself treading in deep water. Rounds two and three continued much in the same manner and it soon became apparent that the younger fighter was simply unable to adapt his gameplan to the sheer aggression and workrate displayed by Narushima. Even working on the outside, the one area where McCall's boxing background might have given him an edge, he found himself outclassed. While unable to secure a finishing knockout blow, the sheer amount of attrition inflicted by Narushima over the course of the three rounds left the judges in no doubt as to who the superior fighter was.

Result: Narushima by Unanimous Decision

RP McMurphy v Decker Dogwood – 265 lbs

All credit to Decker Dogwood for coming out all guns blazing, but this was always going to be an extremely tough matchup for the 18 year old. For the first minute and a half of the fight it appeared that Dogwood might be in with a chance as he managed to land several body shots against his taller opponent, but McMurphy's counter strategy came into play and he secured the takedown attempt. With the fight now on the ground there was only going to be one winner. Dogwood's attempts to improve position proved futile and, worse still, McMurphy was able to rain down a series of elbows and punches unblocked. Dogwood was able to sustain himself through to the second round, but soon found himself on the ground once more and from there McMurphy pounded his way to victory.

Result: McMurphy by second round (T)KO (Strikes)

Holt McCoy v Sungwon Jung – 205 lbs

Holt McCoy's best chance of winning this fight was always going to be via submission, but when you can't take the fight to the floor it's always going to be a long day at the office for a BJJ specialist. Or, if you are coming up against a particularly talented standup fighter, a very short day at the office. In this instance it was the latter as Sungwon Jung dominated the opening exchange working his opponent over both inside and outside the clinch. Predictably McCoy's standup game was no match for Jung and with the takedown opportunities failing to present themselves, it was only a matter of time before Jung landed a crunching blow to finish the fight. Three minutes into the fight and that is precisely what happened, with a beautifully timed left hook taking McCoy to the canvas where Jung wasted no time in dispatching his opponent.

Result: Jung by first round (T)KO (Strikes)

Saiyan Southbrook v Stew Sauced – 205lbs

Southbrook's aggressive approach to this fight looked to unnerve the former light heavyweight champ and, for a while, it appeared this approach might just be working. Opening with a wild combination followed by a left hook which landed flush, Southbrook put the pressure on early and often but over the course of this fight Sauced's counterpunching was on point and although he threw less shots, he landed with greater efficiency. Ultimately it was that efficiency which told true and Sauced was able to dispatch his opponent in the second round with a lovely combination followed by a straight right which left the up-and-coming youngster unconscious up against the cage. Sauced will now be angling for another title shot but with some stiff competition in this already deep division he may have to prove himself once more before getting his chance at the belt. For Southbrook he can take some heart from this performance, the 23 year old is clearly better than his 4-3 record indicates and this fight will have given him some vital experience to build upon.

Result: Sauced by second round KO (Punches)

Update: Sauced will indeed face Kuma Nelson once again in his bid for the heavyweight title. The matchup will occur on the 5th December at Slaughterhouse 9, tickets are already on sale.

Parker Phoenix v Hugo Lewis – 185lbs title fight

Mixed martial arts fans can be fickle sometimes, but for me this was a clear nomination for fight of the night. A real back and forth battle which went the duration, perhaps it was only the absence of a knockout which deprived these two fighters of a bonus award. Phoenix started out strong and looked like he had edged the first two rounds, albeit by the finest of margins. But the challenger was never out of this fight and even in the rounds where the champion looked to have an edge, Lewis landed some crunching hits. The third round was more of a toss up, but Lewis came in strong for the two championship rounds leaving the result as anyone's guess. Indeed the judges struggled to reach a unanimous verdict, scoring the fight 48:47, 46:49 and 48:48 leaving the fight to be ruled as a draw with the champion retaining his title. Next up for Phoenix is another tough matchup with Syn/Evo veteran Kenneth Wayne; for Harris, he will undoubtedly be disappointed not to have taken the belt having come so close but, judging by this performance, he will definitely be in title contention once again in the not so distant future.

Result: Draw

Rusty Driver v Svyatoslav Vakarchuk – 265lbs

Svyatoslav Vakarchuk couldn't have hoped for a better start to the fight. Within seconds of the bell he had managed to take Driver to the floor and it appeared that the 26 year old boxer had just found himself in hot water. But the American showed some tremendous athleticism to push Vakarchuk off and regain his feet. From there Driver stuffed the younger Ukrainian's attempts to bring the fight back down to the floor and delivered punches with such precision and power that it took only six strikes before Vakarchuk was laid flat out on the mat. Now 2-0 in Slaughterhouse, Driver will have his sights set on bigger and better things as he seeks to move on up in the heavyweight division. For all his undeniable talent, Vakarchuk's chin looked exposed in this short fight and he will want to make improvements on his ability to block and evade punches lest he suffer another knockout in Slaughterhouse's hardest hitting division.

Result: Driver by first round (T)KO (Strikes)

Donald Evans v Kocoa Ebone – 205lbs

Ebone started this fight out strongly as he capitalised on some poor footwork from Evans to land an uppercut followed by a well placed jab to the body. From there Ebone sought to maintain the pressure on his opponent, landing a total of 23 strikes to his opponents 16 and clearly was the more aggressive fighter in this instance. But knockout power is a highly sought after commodity in the world of MMA, and although Evans threw far less punches he managed to find his target with greater efficiency and precision. And it was this display of counterpunching ability which ultimately stood the test of time in this light heavyweight bout as Evans cracked his opposite number with a perfectly timed hook to send him out cold two minutes into the second round. Making his Slaughterhouse debut, Evans' gameplan was on point – for most of the fight he managed to avoid the clinch and consistently punished Ebone's attempts to get up close and personal. In the one occasion when Ebone did manage to clinch, Evans skilfully managed to break away albeit while eating a few punches to the head in the process. Next up for the 22 year old from New York is a fight with skilled standup fighter Sungwon Jung at Slaughterhouse 9 in what should be an entertaining bout.

Result: Evans by second round KO (Punch)

Bruce Hardman v Michael D Amato – 265 lbs

This was one of the hard matchups to predict and D Amato surprised the crowd with a dominant performance to take every round on the scorecards. But most surprising of all was the absence of a knockout – both fighters have a reputation both for delivering knockouts and for having suspect chins, so to see this fight go the distance was most unusual. This was a truly classy performance from D Amato, he outworked his opponent throwing a total of 134 strikes to Hardman's 91 and landed consistently with greater precision (his strikes finding the target 46.2% time compared to Hardman's 36.2%). But although Hardman's striking ability clearly wasn't quite on the level of D Amato, he deserves credit for showing tremendous heart to take this fight the full three rounds. For D Amato, this performance will have been a big confidence boost as he looks to move up to greater things. D Amato's next fight is yet to be confirmed, but with heavyweight champion Magnus Cross preparing to face off against Connor MacBurns (who D Amato has previously beaten) in Slaughterhouse's next outing, D Amato has made a convincing case for a title challenge.

Result: D Amato by Unanimous Decision

CO-MAIN EVENT

Don Diego v Robbie Alcatraz – 170lbs

This fight was not remotely close. Don Diego produced an absolutely dominant performance from start to finish Landing a total of 71 strikes to Alactraz's 5. Alactraz was lucky to get out of the first round still standing as a series of body shots threatened to take his feet away; saved by the bell, it looked like Alcatraz had recovered his senses but with seconds of the start of the start of the second round a delicious head kick sent the 37 year old to the floor. Reluctant to engage with Alcatraz on the ground, Diego allowed his opponent back to his feet before again knocking him down with huge combination just a minute later. Again, Diego waved a wobbly Alcatraz to his feet before cracking him with massive right hand before finally following up with a series of strikes which forced the referee to jump in and call a halt to proceedings.

A third successive defeat for Alcatraz will have been a devastating morale blow for the 37 year old San Franciscan and he may well be contemplating the prospect of retirement. This was his 50th fight in the ring and although he still retains a very respectable record of 29-20-1, it would appear that physically he is no longer able to compete with opponents of Don Diego's caliber. For “The Fox”, this spectacular win on his Slaughterhouse debut has propelled him into the spotlight and no doubt he will soon be angling for a shot at the title – current welterweight champion Kezz The Convict is due to fight against Sweet Jones, and the Don may well fancy his chances against either champion or contender.

Result: Diego by second round (T)KO (Strikes)

MAIN EVENT

Kuma Nelson v Hughtavious Mingo – 205 lbs title fight

For all the talk before this bout, Kuma Nelson clearly displayed why he is the reigning light heavweight champion. A potent cocktail of physicality, technical excellence and sheer aggression made this an exceptionally short fight. Nelson landed all nine of the punches he threw and connected more often than not with his patent kicks to the legs and body (finding the mark 71.4% of the time). Although hardly a large sample to work with, Nelson clearly displayed his superior standup in the mere one minute and six seconds this bout landed. Meanwhile Mingo failed to find the mark once over the brief duration.

Hughtavious Mingo is an undeniably talented fighter. At a mere 23 years of age he is arguably the hottest prospect in this division and has certainly earned his right to compete for the title. However, in this instance he was simply not on the level of the 35 year old European. Meanwhile “The Lucid Nightmare” shows no signs of slowing down, the former Evo veteran has clearly displayed his dominance at the top of the division and in the opinion of many commentators is, pound for pound, the most talented fighter operating out of Slaughterhouse. The question on the lips of many is who can stop him? Nelson will take on the next challenger in Slaughterhouse 9 on December 5th, keep your eyes out for what should be another entertaining bout.

Result: Nelson by first round KO (Punch)

SLAUGHTERHOUSE 7 PREVIEW

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1446905990ui.png

UNDERCARD

Ryan Genningsunit v Dominick Snooze – 135 lbs

Two wrestlers making their Slaughterhouse debut in this bantamweight matchup. Not too much is known about either fighter making this a hard one to predict. Genningsunit hails from New York and has made two career appearances so far, one win and one loss; Snooze is a Californian with an MMA record of one prior appearance – a submission win via kneebar. Both fighters are 25 years of age. The lack of tape to work with is a mixed blessing for both fighters; neither will know what to predict from the other and the winner of this bout may well be determined by who has the higher fight IQ and the ability to adapt as the matchup unfolds. The victor? Who knows, but if I had to pick between the two I would give Genningunit a small edge as he has faced slightly tougher opposition in his prior outings.

Prediction: Genningsunit by decision.

Dawid Dzingis Han v Joe Johnson – 265+ lbs

Another fight between two competitors making their Slaughterhouse debut. Very little is known about Joe Johnson, this is not only his first appearance in Slaughterhouse but his first MMA fight ever. The only information we have to go on is what his coaches have told us, which is that he is a well balanced fighter who is itching to mark his inaugural appearance with a win. Dawid Dzingis Han is a Polish mixed martial artist who specialises in wrestling and BJJ. He has an MMA record of 4-0, three wins via submission and one unanimous decision. His last fight ended a mere 36 seconds into the bout with Han successfully applying the Kimura from side control. Han's prowess on the ground is unquestionable, but there are big questions over his standup ability – he has been so successful in shooting for takedowns that his opponents have barely had a chance to test Han on his feet. Unless Johnson has a hidden ace up his sleeve, chances are he will want to play away from his opponent's strengths and keep this fight standing.

Prediction: Han by first round submission.

David McFadden v Walter Black – 185 lbs

David McFadden is a 23 year old hailing from the Granite City, Scotland. In technical terms, McFadden is an outstanding fighter with exceptional Muay Thai and well rounded understanding of the other aspects of the game. However, he has a tendency to cut and his chin is somewhat suspect – his MMA record thus far is 0-4, although it is worth noting that all of those fights have been against high caliber opposition. Unfortunately for McFadden, this is not going to be an easy matchup either. Walter Black is 26 years of age and is primarily a ground fighter but like McFadden is also more than capable on his feet. He has a record of 8-2, with one no contest – of those eight victories, seven came via knockout. Given his wrestling background it would be easy to assume that those knockouts come from pummelling his opponents with ground and pound, but no – the majority of those knockouts actually come from Black standing on his feet. Make no mistake, this lad can pack a punch. And that is precisely what I predict will happen in this bout, McFadden will display his technical excellence before Black catches him with a monster punch dropping him to the floor.

Prediction: Black by first round KO.

Billy Bulge v Neil Murray – 205 lbs

This is a light heavyweight matchup between two very evenly matched fighters. Both Bulge and Murray suffered defeat the last time the entered the arena so this should be a real battle of determination and heart as both fighters seek to return to winning ways. Bulge is a versatile fighter who likes to take his opponents into the clinch, he is also more than capable of grinding an opponent down with ground and pound and his ability to deliver kicks to the legs and body is underrated. His opponent prefers to keep the fight on the outside where his boxing skills can truly shine, Murray seldom tends to mix it up but when you possess his sort of power in the punch why would you? Six of Murray's seven victories have come via knockout. Murray will have learnt a valuable lesson the last time he appeared in Slaughterhouse when he took one Kocoa Ebone into the clinch and found himself out cold less than a minute later, so expect him to keep this one on the outside at all costs. Bulge will be looking to close the distance and make things as uncomfortable as possible for Murray, if takedown opportunities present themselves expect Bulge to try and take this fight to the floor. Hard one to call, but I think Murray's knockout power might just give him the edge.

Prediction: Murray by second round KO.

Cappy Christian v Jared Tillion – 170 lbs

Muay Thai specialist vs. wrestler, as Cappy Christian seeks to rebound from his title fight loss against Kezz The Convict by taking on Slaughterhouse newcomer Jared Tillion. Christian will have been absolutely devastated to lose his last fight in the manner he did; by all accounts he was far ahead on the scorecards having subjected the current champion to a series of nasty looking elbows and knees before finding himself on the wrong end of a triangle submission in the fourth round. Christian will be fired up for this fight and that could spell bad news for the Norwegian on his debut. Tillion possesses an MMA record of 8-2 with most of his wins coming via ground and pound. The expectation is that Tillion will shoot for the takedown early and often as he seeks to avoid the striking prowess of the veteran. At 37 years of age some might be beginning to question how well Christian's body and chin are holding up, but so far he has shown no evidence of decline and I suspect Christian's standup ability will prove too much for the newcomer.

Prediction: Christian by first round KO.

Harley Crowe v Howard Stern – 185 lbs

Another fascinating matchup for the cards. Both fighters are skilled Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners; Stern is a black belt with an MMA record of 13-5 while Crowe possesses a red belt with a record of 18-9. Stern comes into this fight fresh of a win against Nyffe Pehmytkudos in his Slaughterhouse debut and he will look to continue that trend here. Crowe will be making his first appearance under the Slaughterhouse banner. It is also worth noting that this is Crowe's first fight under new management, so it will be interesting to see if there are any significant adjustments to Crowe's usual gameplan. I would expect this fight to find its way to the ground early on – Crowe has an excellent takedown success rate and Stern doesn't tend to dedicate much time to takedown defence as he prefers to operate on the floor anyway. Both fighters will be looking for submissions (between them they have notched up a total of eight submission of the night awards) but with both opponents being so well versed in Jiu Jitsu this fight may go to a decision. A knockout is not of the question – five of Crowe's victories have come via KO, although Stern is no slouch either when it comes to the standup game. For the technical purists out there this will definitely be one to watch.

Prediction: Crowe by decision.

Kezz The Convict v Sweet Jones – 170 lbs title fight

Kezz The Convict has notched up thirteen straight wins and the Brit will be looking to make it fourteen here as he seeks to defend his welterweight title. Although it looked like he had met his match in his last outing, Kezz snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with a fourth round submission of Cappy Christian to retain the belt. The challenger for this matchup is 25 year old Sweet Jones who hails from the Bahamas; a talented boxer, Jones will undoubtedly be looking to keep this fight standing although, unlike Kezz's last opponent, Jones also possesses a solid background in BJJ so (at least in theory) should be much harder to submit. Kezz thrives off submissions so if the challenger can prevent this fight going to the ground that may well swing this matchup in his favour. Jones has a three inch height advantage which will play to his strengths while the fight remains standing but must remember to keep those long limbs tucked in if Kezz does manage to secure the takedown. I quite like Jones' chances here, Kezz looked somewhat exposed in the standup phase last time and if Jones can capitalise on that he is in with a good shout. Both fighters have chins of granite so cardio may play an important role here if the fight goes through to the championship rounds.

Prediction: Jones by decision.

Peyton Rudger v Eli Frankham – 265+ lbs

A battle of the atlantic as Lincolnshire lad Eli Frankham takes on New York's Peyton Rudger in this super heavyweight matchup. Both fighters like to operate out of the clinch where they can use their natural Muay Thai and wrestling abilities to the full advantage so expect this fight to go close and personal. Bar their countries of origin, these fighters actually have a lot in common – Rudger is 26, Frankham 25 and both are making their Slaughterhouse debut following their exits in the recent heavyweight tournament at The Island. With no weight limit in this bout, Rudger will be coming in at 265 lbs while Frankham enters the ring at his natural weight of 280 lbs – these are some big guys and an early knockout seems like a distinct possibility. This is a tough one to call as both these fighters have the ability to send their opponent out cold, but Frankham might just have the edge – he has shown tremendous striking defence in his previous matchups and has barely been bruised, his sole loss coming by way of submission.

Prediction: Frankham by first round KO.

CO-MAIN EVENT

Andriy Kuzmenko v Reijo Rento – 265 lbs

Two KO machines come head to head in our co-main event of the evening. 25 year old Ukranian, Andriy Kuzmenko, looks to avenge his loss against current heavyweight champ Magnus Cross with a victory over 30 year old Finn, Reijo Rento. Rento might be an even tougher opponent than cross though and the former LFC champ will be looking to start his Slaughterhouse career off with a bang as he seeks to make his mark on the heavyweight division. Rento likes to take his opponents into the clinch before dropping them to the mat and rearranging their facial features with some brutal ground and pound. Kuzmenko also likes to work in the clinch and will actively be looking to target the head throughout this bout; he rarely goes for body shots, preferring to rattle opponents chins with those fists of steel.

For this matchup Kuzmenko may prefer to take on the role of outside fighter. Rento is undoubtedly a threat on his feet, but perhaps even more so on the ground. Although he doesn't tend to go for submissions, the BJJ black belt will happily use his superior knowledge of grappling to transition to superior positions – keeping this fight standing will be a priority for the younger Ukrainian. Kuzmenko has the potential to deliver a knockout blow at any point in this match so Rento will need to maintain concentration throughout, but with the Finn's more rounded abilities and four inch height advantage I think Rento will take this one.

Prediction: Rento by first round KO.

MAIN EVENT

Magnus Cross v Connor Mac Burns – 265 lbs title fight

Our main event of the evening sees heavyweight champion Magnus Cross take on Irish boxer Connor Mac Burns. Cross is 23 years of age and is chalking up win after win as he seeks to maintain his dominance at the top of the division. A standup fighter with immense power behind his punches, Cross' fights never go the distance – thirty three appearances so far and almost all have gone by way of KO, and more often than not it's Cross who is doing the knocking out. Cross doesn't really tend to mix it up, he doesn't throw kicks and, although he's taken opponents to the floor on occasion, his gameplan primarily revolves around those lethal punches. And with all twenty three of his victories coming via knockout it's not hard to see why. Amusingly Cross has made four appearances in kickboxing bouts, where he has simply beaten the living daylights out of his opponents using his fists – kicking be damned. The Australian isn't too happy about this matchup, complaining on buzz that Burns isn't deserving of a title shot so expect Cross to come out all guns blazing as he seeks to prove a point.

Meanwhile Burns will be relishing his first title fight. The 24 year old Irish man is a talented boxer with a well rounded ground game to back up his striking prowess. With an MMA record of 8-5, this will be his second appearance at Slaughterhouse. Burns shows versatility in the standup game and likes to mix in leg kicks which can wear an opponent down over the course of the fight, however he has looked vulnerable in the clinch and this is one area the champion may well seek to exploit. He has shown an ability to operate on the ground with three of his eight wins coming via submission, so it will be interesting to see if he plays away from his natural boxing tendencies and tries to take this fight to the floor. It's worth mentioning that Cross stands a massive fourteen inches taller than the Irish man so Burns may well seek to turn this into a slugfest in order to nullify that substantial reach advantage – staying on the outside is not a viable strategy in this instance.

Arguably, Burns is the more well rounded fighter and certainly is a prospect to watch for the future, but in this instance I think Cross will simply be too much for the contender. The combination of knockout power and vastly superior reach should enable Cross to dictate and ultimately dominate this fight. If Burns can take this fight to the ground he is in with a chance, but with this fight scheduled for five rounds I predict the champion will find the final knockout blow sooner or later and be walking home with the belt come the end of the night.

Prediction: Cross by second round KO.

Interview with Connor Mac Burns.

Q: Recent betting odds are out, you are a 22/1 underdog on some lines, & the event writer believes you will lose by KO. What are your thoughts..?

A:"Odds don't matter, me and my team know exactly who I am and what I am capable of doing. I'm older, I have been through more tough battles in my life then he ever has. I have better skills all around and he can't knock me out. I see myself winning, no doubt.."

Q: Cross is talking a lot of shit leading up to this fight..

A: "Talking does nothing. I'm an Irish man, who became a Canadian professional fighter, my boxing credentials speak for themselves and everyone will see my full skill-set and potential when this trash talking bitch steps into the fight with me."
