FFC 7: Wolf vs Flagg was a mixed martial arts event held on June 21, 2014 at the Hard Knocks Arena & Casino in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

(Review)

-[Middleweight bout]: God Nope (0-3) versus Luca Rinaldi (2-2)

-[Outcome]: Right off the bat, God Nope started throwing nothing but high kicks which did manage to catch Rinaldi off guard and drop him, which allowed Nope to dive into guard for a little ground and pound. Rinaldi quickly reversed the position with his superior wrestling (have I mentioned that God Nope has no ground game? Go figure.) and start dropping elbows on him. Once Luca Rinaldi got tired of throwing elbows, he went for a submission which forced God Nope to immediately tap out. Who'da thunk it? Luca Rinaldi def. God Nope via Submission (Americana) at 2:55 of round 1.

-[Expectation]: Rinaldi via TKO or SUB.

-[Reality]: Rinaldi via SUB.

-[Super-heavyweight bout]: Rodolfo Vieira (0-0) versus Monkey Business (2-0)

-[Outcome]: Despite scoring the first takedown of the night, Vieira quickly found himself overmatched with the wily Monkey Business. Despite being only 18 years old, Business is a legitimate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu student that made short work of Vieira. Monkey Business def. Rodolfo Vieira via Submission (Kimura) at 3:50 of round 2.

*Monkey Business gave a shout-out to his Sponsor, Valhalla Clothing following his dominant victory

-[Expectation]: Vieira via superior Jiu-Jitsu.

-[Reality]: Business via superior Jiu-Jitsu.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Steven Davies (2-0) versus Banjo Sanjo (2-1)

-[Outcome]: Steven Davies tried to clinch and Sanjo used his opponent's momentum to foce a double leg takedown into the guard of Davies. On the ground, Davies was simply no match for the submission fighter. Banjo Sanjo def. Steven Davies via Submission (Kneebar) at 0:30 of round 1.

-[Expectation]: Banjo Sanjo via destruction.

-[Reality]: Banjo Sanjo via destruction.

-[Welterweight bout]: Vrando Vraganza (12-5) versus Zesbis Silva (1-4)

-[Outcome]: Vrando Vraganza more than held his own on the feet but simply couldn't keep Silva off of him. On the ground, Vraganza did well to keep active from the bottom and improve his position... but the Jiu-Jitsu of Silva proved too much for him. Zesbis Silva def. Vrando Vraganza via Submission (RNC) at 3:56 of round 3.

*Zesbis Silva gave a shout out to his fans following his victory

-[Expectation]: Vrando Vraganza via stoppage.

-[Reality]: Zesbis Silva via stoppage.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Henrique Tavares (1-1) versus Steve Orvel (8-6)

-[Outcome]: Steve Orvel improves to four straight victories including three submission finishes. He made short work of Tavares, defeating him even more quickly than he did when they last met. Steve Orvel def. Henrique Tavares via Submission (Kimura) at 1:20 of round 1.

*During his victory speech, Steve Orvel screamed into the mic, “WROCILEM, WROCILEM! RUTKOWSKI IDE PO CIEBIE” Now, I don't know exactly what that means but I'm pretty sure it has to do with licking tree sap.

-[Expectation]: Steve Orvel via quick submission.

-[Reality]: Steve Orvel via quick submission.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Daemon Targaryen (6-1) versus Bork Laser (2-2)

-[Outcome]: Whuddya know, Daemon Targaryen destroyed the lesser striker in short order. Targaryen rushed forward with an early onslaught; throwing punches, checking kicks, and finally dropping Laser with a beautiful combination. Targaryen finished this fight with a jab of all things. Daemon Targaryen def. KO (Punch) at 0:17 of round 1.

-[Expectation]: Daemon Targaryen via stoppage due to strikes.

-[Reality]: Daemon Targaryen via stoppage due to strikes.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Kyle Babcock (13-8) versus Ryoto Machida (7-8-1)

-[Outcome]: This fight was fought almost exclusively like a kickboxing match. Despite landing a couple of takedowns, Babcock found himself being quickly overwhelmed by the superior striking of Machida. Ryoto Machida def. Kyle Babcock via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

-[Expectation]: I was indecisive on the forum but we'll go with Kyle Babcock via clinch stoppage.

-[Reality]: Ryoto Machida by lopsided domination on the feet.

-[Light-heavyweight Championship bout]: Gerald Garcia (2-2) versus Juan Mott (6-1)

-[Outcome]: It's time for the inaugural light-heavyweight championship of the world! This is an extremely even match-up that could go either way in my eyes.

Round 1 – Garcia did a nice job avoiding the ranged strikes of Juan Mott early on, despite receiving a small cut early on. Mott managed to push Garcia against the cage and the two warriors went blow-for-blow from that position until the buzzer sounded. Still, Garcia seemed to land a bigger volume of shots.

Round 2 – Mott seems to be the aggressor here; he pushed forward with strikes and managed to counter some as well. The cut of Garcia got tagged a couple of times which made the blood really start to flow. Mott seemed to pick up the pace in the clinch here in the second.

Round 3 – Mott gets the clinch early and a beautiful battle for position enveloped the entirety of the round with the two trading knees and punches here.

Round 4 – That cut on the face of Garcia is becoming troublesome. The two are trading shots and Garcia responds to his worsening cut by going for a takedown which lands him into the guard of Mott. Mott is looking for submissions from the bottom but no dice; Garcia finishes out the round on top.

Round 5 – Both fighters were doing a great job of avoiding strikes early in this round. Mott countered a missed shot and clinched with Garcia. Mott was chipping away in the clinch while Garcia mostly wanted to do a little wall-n-stall there. By the end of it, both dudes were exhausted and looking to stall out the remainder of the fight. Juan Mott def. Gerald Garcia via Unanimous Decision (50-46, 50-46, 50-46) to become the new light-heavyweight champion of the world!

-[Expectation]: Juan Mott via stoppage due to strikes.

-[Reality]: Juan Mott via decision in a long and grueling fight.

-[Middleweight Championship bout]: Grey Wolf (12-4) versus Randall Flagg (5-3)

-[Outcome]: In a bout very similar to the main event heavyweight tilt, we saw the slugger Grey Wolf doing what he does best... charging forward with his head down, swinging heavy leather. Except in this instance, he was fighting an opponent that has great striking defense and even greater clinch control. Wolf simply couldn't get a clean shot in for the duration of this fight and he exhausted himself trying.

Round 1 – Grey Wolf came out the only way that he knows how to fight: Aggressive, looking for the finish, winging punches with each step. Flagg wanted none of it... he made sure to keep Wolf pressed up against the cage, landing shots when he felt that he had Wolf in a secure position.

Round 2 – More of the same from Flagg. The Dark Man is doing his best Randy Couture impression, keeping Wolf pressed against the cage eating strikes. Back at a range the two start throwing strikes. Wolf started swinging wildly, throwing caution to the wind, hoping to score a power KO. Flagg was the one landing crisp shots though; one of which rocked Wolf. This did nothing to deter Grey Wolf as he kept chasing Flagg on rubbery legs.

Round 3 – Back in the clinch, Grey Wolf goes for an uncharacteristic takedown attempt to get away from the control of Flagg. Randall Flagg stuffs it and the two started trading shots again. Grey Wolf was just throwing wild combinations and single shots, overhand rights, and uppercuts. Anything he could throw to just hit the sumbitch. Flagg pushed Wolf against the cage an dropped him with a monster uppercut. This time, Flagg didn't let Wolf off the hook: he picked up the pressure and kept hitting Wolf until the referee stepped in. Randall Flagg def. Grey Wolf via TKO (Strikes) at 4:08 of round 3 to become the new middleweight champion of the world!

-[Heavyweight bout]: Valentin Ralek (7-0) versus Xavier Barbossa (6-1)

-[Outcome]: This main event features two serious knockout artists that love to trade shots. On the one hand you have the high level boxing of Xavier Barbossa and on the other hand you have the Muay Thai and killer elbows of Valentin Ralek. Both guys are capable of finishing this fight with their striking.

Round 1 – Valentin Ralek immediately forced Barbossa to clinch with him and went to work with his elbows. Barbossa, being a man that doesn't have much expertise inside the clinch, was relegated to trying fruitlessly to wiggle free from the spider's web. Meanwhile, Ralek was tagging him with shot after shot. By the end of the round, Barbossa's face was a horrid, bloody mess thanks in no small part to the aforementioned elbows of Ralek. Barbossa needs to stay AWAY from Ralek in this second round and land some punches. Maybe get a bandaid.

Round 2 – Immediately Valentin Ralek started trying to clinch, almost desperately, with Barbossa. Xavier Barbossa was already breathing with his mouth open by the time Ralek got the clinch around the one minute mark. Immediately, Valentin Ralek started to pepper Barbossa with his patented elbow attack. That cut opened up further and the ringside doctor stopped the fight. Valentin Ralek def. Xavier Barbossa via TKO (Doctor Stoppage) at 1:56 of round 2.

-[Expectation]: Barbossa via stoppage due to strikes.

-[Reality]: Ralek via CUT stoppage.

Awards:

KO of the Night: Valentin Ralek ($2,000)

SUB of the Night: Zesbis Silva ($2,000)

Fight of the Night: Randall Flagg versus Grey Wolf ($2,000 x2)

(Fun Facts)

2 – Xavier Barbossa has never been knocked down in his professional career. Before he took on Valentin Ralek, he never received a cut in a fight.

3 – Randall Flagg has fought for a world title on two diferent occasions. In his first effort, he was narrowly defeated by Xanadu Newton in a close fight that went the distance. This time, he managed to control and finish his hard hitting foe.

4 – For Juan Mott, his new championship belt will go on the mantle beside the Rio Grand Championships Light-heavyweight belt that he claimed when he defeated Yasiel Puig.

Mixed Martial Farce Magazine here with Xavier Barbossa who is fresh out of his main event loss to Valentin Ralek at FFC 7.

MMF: Hey man, I know it was disappointing to lose such a high profile fight in this fashion. What could you have done differently to avoid this defeat?

Barbossa: Yeah, I mean sure, it's definitely a disappointing loss. It was to a dangerous opponent that has knocked out most of his opposition and, really, I that I showed my toughness in this fight by not getting knocked out. But I have no excuses for the loss; I trained very hard and I had plenty of time to prepare for the fight and to prepare for his clinch/Muay Thai style.

My only regret is that I wasn't more aggressive early on. But he had a good game plan and a good style.

MMF: What's next for you?

Barbossa: I'd like to fight Daemon Targaryen next since I think it would be a good fight for the fans.

MMF: Thank you for your time.

Mixed Martial Farce Magazine here with Valentin Ralek who is fresh off of his big win over Xavier Barbossa at FFC 7.

Rather than ask any questions, I simply gave the floor to Ralek who seemed to have something particular on his mind. Check it out below:

“First of all I want to thank you for the opportunity. I trained really hard for this fight and I was prepared for a war. I've seen him asking for a rematch in a very disrespectful way, saying he will knock me out the next time we fight. But I don't think he deserves a rematch because I destroyed him. But, if Barbossa thinks that he can talk bullshit about me, he can be prepared because the next time we fight, he will be out cold with NO mercy.”

Mixed Martial Farce Magazine here with Grey Wolf who came up short in his title fight against Randall Flagg at FFC 7.

Not long ago, Grey Wolf defeated his nemesis, Andrzej Sternik for the second consecutive time. Following the loss, Andrzej left the promotion for greener pastures. When asked about this move, Grey Wolf had this to say: “He can run all he wants but he can't hide from his weakness. Seek to improve and overcome. Only then will you become stronger."

When I asked him what was next for him in his MMA career, he said: “I will improve myself. I will get stronger, faster, sharper. I had a bad game plan coming into this fight. That, I will change. I will regain the belt and Thunder will reign supreme once more."

Mixed Martial Farce Magazine here with the new Fortitude FC middleweight champion Randall “The Dark Man” Flagg. We managed to get a quick question in with him at the press conference, asking: “How good does it feel to dominate a former world champion and finally claim a title of your own in the process?”

He responded: “Ah, it feels amazing! I know coming into this fight that I was going to have my way with him wherever the fight went. I had a long layoff coming into this fight, it felt good getting back in there and scratch that itch. I'm ready to defend my new title as soon as possible so bring me whoever is next!”

Mixed Martial Farce Magazine here once again with Xavier Barbossa. We spoke briefly before and then I did an interview with Valentin Ralek who seemed to have taken some issue with words spoken by Barbossa. So, I did a follow-up interview with Barbossa in response and this is what happened.

MMF: I spoke with Valentin Ralek shortly after you and I spoke. Valentin seemed pretty fired up about some comments he alleged that you made about a possible rematch with him. He claimed that you made statements about knocking him out and he countered that by saying he would actually knock YOU out. Do you have any comment on this?

Barbossa: “Hah, well, first of all I would fight both of those chumps (Ralek and Targaryen). Ralek couldn't knock me out this time and I took his best shots. The doctor had to stop the fight due to a cut. Could Ralek stand and take my bombs? I doubt it; a couple of good shots from me and he would be asleep on the canvas.

IF he's a man in the rematch, he won't hug me the entire time and rub his little elbows into my forehead just so I can bleed a little and make the doctor stop the fight. If he's a real man, let him stand up with me and swing it out toe-to-toe like a real fighter, he doesn't have my chin, he doesn't have my power, and he knows it.”

I followed it up by asking him about Daemon Targaryen, whom he called out in our prior interview. I asked: “What makes you think that you can beat (Targaryen)?”

He responded: “As far as Daemon Targaryen goes, I would like to fight him just because of our identical fighting styles. We both have big one punch knockout power and we both stand up and trade shots. We would have to see who goes to sleep first; it's a good fight for the fans and we would get to see who the biggest heavyweight power puncher really is.”

Mixed Martial Farce Magazine here with the new Fortitude FC light-heavyweight champion, Juan Mott. Juan Mott defeated Gerald Garcia in a landslide unanimous decision victory after a long and grueling match.

I managed to get a quick word with the champ after the fight and asked him to comment on the fact that Gerald Garcia seemed to slow down over the course of their fight. He responded with a courteous: “It's all about the cardio, man.

He also commented that Gerald Garcia is a tough guy and that they had a good fight together. But in the end, he surmised, (Mott) just had a good game plan going in.

This is a general call out to anyone reading this: Please feel welcome to send me quotes about your upcoming fight. Give me your prediction for how the fight will go or tell me at length why your fighter is the best fighter in your weight class.

Anyone that gives me the best information to work with could get their own article written up and submitted to the Tycoon Times (with their approval, of course).

So don't be shy. :shades:

Mixed Martial Farce Magazine here with a very... interesting interview that we did recently. We were contacted by a man named Brody Macbeth who claimed to be a superstar fighting out of the Fortitude FC promotion in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. This was hard for us to believe at first because Macbeth has never fought professional MMA before.

Now, we know that Fortitude FC is the fastest rising MMA promotion in all of Brazil. In recent events, the popularity of the young promotion has skyrocketed. It is now ranked number two in the country behind only Ultimate Vale Tudo in popularity and is rated among the top four most wealthy companies in the country.

This is why we initially turned down interviews with Mr. Macbeth. We reached out to Danny Laverty for comment about the young boxer's signing. He sighed and confirmed that, yes, unfortunately he had signed the young fighter. And no, the young fighter had not shut up ever since. So, with great apprehension, we agreed to visit Brody Macbeth at his private training facility. The name of the gym was an immediate red flag that something unusual was about to take place... “2 girls 1 hoarse”. We have no idea what that could possibly refer to but it can't be good. Or legal.

We sent our top investigative reporter onto the scene to talk with Mr. Macbeth: Quintin Smith.

Okay, so I got contacted by my boss and told that I had to go visit this place called 2 girls 1 hoarse, right? I thought I was being made fun of at first, to be honest with you. But, much to my horror, it's a real place and I have to go there to keep my job.

The gym is actually located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The entrance to this fine establishment is in an alleyway behind a Hooter's, go figure. I walked in and got a weird vibe from everybody training there. They all stopped what they were doing and stared at me. When I announced that I was here to talk to Brody Macbeth, everybody started laughing at once and I was directed into the locker room “if I dared”. So, I swallowed my pride, my aspirations, and I walked into the locker room.

I was immediately greeted by the sight of a young and thin man that had to be in his mid-twenties. He was wearing nothing but an undersized towel and red, white, and blue striped knee-high socks. The moment he saw me walking into the locker room, he grabbed a dictionary and started reading it.

Oh, I didn't see you there,” he said, casually tossing his dictionary to the side, “I was just doing a little lite reading.

I knew this was going to be a long, painful interview immediately.

So, MMA Farce Magazine wants to do an interview with the legend, is that it,” he asked me, his obnoxious grin stretching from ear to over sized ear, “I suppose I can stop my training long enough to give you the inside scoop.

..The inside scoop,” I asked, incredulously, “You asked us to come here and interview y-

That's enough about you, let's talk about me,” he laughed like he had said the funniest thing in the world.

He proceeded to tell me how he had started boxing as a child prodigy but had retired from the sport before ever going pro due to some obviously fictitious charity work that he had done with starving children in Africa. He went on to tell me how his “fans” had contacted him, pleading with him to come back to the combat world and “clean-up” the sport of mixed martial arts.

To be honest with you, I thought that “EMM EMM AYY” (he really did over-pronounce it that way) was just professional wrasslin', if you want to know the God's honest truth,” he told me unnecessarily, “when my fan mail kept coming in telling me to fight in MMA, I thought I was being ribbed.

Ribbed,” I repeated, questioningly.

You know, made fun of,” he said in disbelief, “I'm sure a pencil neck like you knows a lot about that.

Changing the subject a bit, I asked, “So what are your aspirations now that you're in arguably one of the top MMA promotions in the world?

He stared at me, pulled a cigarette and a lighter from somewhere under his towel, I don't want to venture as to where, and lit the cigarette. He took a single long, deep puff of the cigarette and blew the smoke in my face.

Don't ever smoke, Timmy,” he said, “smoking is for losers.

He put the cigarette out on his leg without breaking eye contact with me.

"My name's not-" I started to say.

“-Now, I figured that I would start out small. Take on a couple of middle-of-the-pack fighters. Of course I would love to fight one of these so-called “EMMM EMMM AYYY” boxers. Legends of their own mind that have never been inside the squared circle or practiced the sweet science

But there are some guys in this league that just need a whoopin'. When I'm done with welterweight, I'm going to eat a couple of steaks and move up a few classes. Grey Wolf, Xavier Barbossa, and Daemon Targaryen. Before I retire, I want to knock each of those chumps out.

I stared at him in shock, “You want to fight … heavyweights ...” I towered above this little man which is why I was so surprised, “You know that Machida, Barbossa, and Targaryen... none of them have suffered a clean knockout before.

Yeah, before. When they were fightin' nobodies.

Nobodies,” I repeated incredulously, “nobodies like Valentin Ralek?

Ralek,” he repeated, “sounds like somebody Cap'n Kirk would be shooting his laser phasers at. Look, I'm the real deal. This interview is over.

He immediately stood up, threw off his towel, and started doing naked squats. The unlit cigarette he had put out was stuck firmly between his teeth.

Now, in my professional opinion, Brody Macbeth is at best delusional and at worst functionally mentally handicapped. This is a fighter that clearly thinks very highly of himself despite having absolutely no evidence to base his opinions on. While sitting with me he called out three of FFC's premiere boxers that have never suffered knockdowns and claimed he would give each of them their first clean knockout.

I'm going to go home now and pray to whatever gods will listen that I am never asked to interview this man again.

Fortitude FC, in conjunction with ORIGO Wear clothing shop and the RISSA fighting alliance, would like to present FFC 8: Caine vs Kalnoky. This epic showdown is taking place on June 28. The only way to see this fight is to buy yourself a ticket and get yourself over to Hayashi's Lounge, Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

(Prologue)

Diego Sanchez is arguably one of the top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighters in the entire Fortitude FC league. When he gets guys to the ground, he finishes them, end of story. He is coming off back-to-back defeats against some serious competition. The last time he was put in this position, with his back to the wall, he went on a three fight streak of nothing but submission victories. This is a fighter that, win or lose, has never seen the second round of a fight.

They say that styles make fights. That's absolutly true and in this case we're looking at what could amount to a legendary, and I don't use that term lightly, LEGENDARY ground battle. Sam Watson is probably the best wrestler in the company, perhaps even in Brazil. His ground and pound is his primary focus and he has a perfect 100% takedown rate. He gets guys to the ground and he aggressively pounds on them. Will he want to bring a guy like Diego Sanchez to the ground? I guess we will see.

(The Action)

(Heavyweight Division) Diego Sanchez (7-4) versus Sean Watson (5-0)

(Preview) There is no possible way this fight goes the distance. These two fighters are absolite finishers with Diego Sanchez fighting in a finish or be finished mindset, very similarly to his real life counterpart, and of course the destructive ground and pound style of Watson. Neither of these guys are going to want to leave it in the hands of the judges. Diego Sanchez is a two time world champion that has held titles in BFC and KOMMA.

(Prediction) I actually give the advantage to Sean Watson. He needs to curb his enthusiasm on the ground and keep himself from falling into a submission but if he starts hitting Sanchez, he could put him away quick. So yeah, Sean Watson takes this via ground and pound.

[A closer look]

(Diego Sanchez)

Record: 7-4

Knockouts: 0

Submissions: 7

Style: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Height: 6'1

Weight: 236 lbs

Accomplishments: BFC Heavyweight Champion, KOMMA Heavyweight Champion, SUB of the night (x2)

In this fight: It's no secret that Diego Sanchez doesn't want to be on the bottom in this fight. Expect him to allow any and all takedowns from Watson and then try to reverse to get on top of the wrestler. If he can do that, he could very well lock in a submission.

(Sean Watson)

Record: 5-0

Knockouts: 5

Submissions: 0

Style: Wrestling

Height: 6'2

Weight: 270 lbs

Accomplishments: Undefeated

In this fight: Sean Watson has indicated to me that on top of his dazzling ground skills, he is now training stand-up as well. He has displayed some serious stopping power in his short career. Based on his prior fights, you can assume he will want to bring this fight to the ground and start pounding on the former world champion to put him away fast. If you listen to his interviews, however, he implies that he wants to use his quickly improving boxing to try and stop Sanchez on the feet.

(Bantamweight Division, Championship Fight) Benny Caine (12-4) versus Tomas Kalnoky (8-3)

(Preview) The vacant bantamweight championship of the world is up for grabs and we get the pleasure of bearing witness to thos battle. Benny Caine and Tomas Kalnoky are a pair of submission specialists that focus the entirety of their skills on forcing their opponent to tap out. Benny Caine is a black belt and Tomas Kalnoky is a brown belt; Kalnoky is a vastly superior wrestler however.

(Prediction) This fight could go either way and depend on who has the better game plan. “Everything else is virtually identical”. However, I will give this one to Benny Caine based on the level of competition he has faced. He has beaten superior wrestlers with brown belts.

[A closer look]

(Benny Caine)

Record: 12-4

Knockouts: 0

Submissions: 11

Style: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Height: 4'9

Weight: 130 lbs

Accomplishments: SUB of the night (x2)

In this fight: He's going to do what he does best: keep this fight on the ground and dominate. He has had a great deal of success in advancing position and keeping himself out of danger on the ground. He has advanced position more than he has allowed opponents to advance thus far. The same cannot be said of his opponent.

(Tomas Kalnoky)

Record: 8-3

Knockouts: 0

Submissions: 6

Style: Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Height: 5'7

Weight: 146 lbs

Accomplishments: SUB of the night (x3)

In this fight: He needs to either keep this fight on the feet and pepper Caine with punches on the feet or find a way to stay a step ahead of the Jiu-Jitsu wizard. This is a very tough fight for him but it will put a tremendous feather in his cap if he can pull off the victory.

(Welterweight Division, Championship Fight) Rafael Misiek (11-7-1) versus Grant Benton (10-7)

(Preview) In this exciting welterweight championship fight, we have the heavy handed striker Rafael Misiek facing off against the well rounded Grant Benton. After competing at middleweight and composing a meek record of 3-2, Misiek signed to fight in an open weight league where he regularly fought against heavyweights and people that couldn't even make the heavyweight limit. He earned a combined record of 8-5-1 against the larger men with several finishes for good measure. This will be Rafael Misiek's first fight at his natural weight in his entire career. Grant Benton has often bounced betewen welterweight and lightweight. He has earned a title shot in every company that he has competed for but has always been on the outside looking in. Grant will take it to you anywhere the fight takes place: on the feet, in the clinch, on the ground.

(Prediction) Grant Benton prefers to stand and trade power punches with opponents but I suspect he will bring out his wrestling for this fight and attempt to submit Misiek. Both of these guys have really solid chins and excellent gas tanks so expect this one to go the distance.

[A closer look]

(Rafael Misiek)

Record: 11-7-1

Knockouts: 5

Submissions: 0

Style: Muay Thai, Wrestling

Height: 5'9

Weight: 185 lbs

Accomplishments: Fight of the Night (x2)

In this fight: “He fights great, but I'm a great fighter” Well, I think this can be restated to say “Benton fights great in the clinch, but I'm a great clinch fighter.” I think Misiek is going to press Benton against the cage and unload with a flurry of punches, elbows, and knees in an overwhelming assault.

(Grant Benton)

Record: 10-7

Knockouts: 6

Submissions: 1

Style: Boxing, Wrestling

Height: 5'9

Weight: 185 lbs

Accomplishments: Fight of the Night (x2), KO of the Night, World Title Challenger (x2)

In this fight: I expect Benton to try to drag this fight to the ground and I think he's going to get it. With his gas tank, he can keep pushing the wrestling and make this an ugly fight. I don't expect this one to be very highly rated but I could see Benton winning a judge's decision here.

(Welterweight Division) Danny Glover (12-4) versus Jay Matsuo (5-4)

(Preview) If you let Danny Glover pitch you his sale, he would tell you that he is the real lethal weapon and that his hands are registered lethal weapons. The fact of the matter is that in his first fourteen fights, he left the first round one time. The majority of his fights end within the first two minutes. He doesn't promise that he will beat every man he faces but he promises that he's going to go out and try. He guarantees with each appearance that he is going to do everything that is within his power to take the other guy's head off and fast. Jay Matsuo is going to try to drag this fight into the deep waters and make Danny Glover uncomfortable. Matsuo's style is a very smothering one in that he doesn't always go for the finish but he's constantly attacking. He throws strikes when he feels confident in them but prefers to double leg you and simply control you on the ground. He does go for submissions quite aggressively which allows for opponents to escape at times.

(Prediction) With Glover's lack of wrestling and Matsuo's smothering dominance, expect this one to go to the final buzzer with Matsuo figuratively and literally on top.

(Bantamweight Division) Tadeusz Ostrowski (4-0) versus Ray Wolfe (6-5)

(Preview) Undefeated standout Tadeusz Ostrowski returns to the FFC cage for his fourth consecutive appearance to take the experienced brown belt, Ray Wolfe. Despite having virtually no striking skills, Tadeusz surprised us a bit when he dropped Tom Jarvis with heavy punches. Tom Jarvis jumped to his feet and tried to dive in on Ostrowski to get the fight to a safe place and instead opened himself to a power slam that put him away. Ray Wolfe also fought Tom Jarvis and dominated him on the ground before putting an exclamation point on it by submitting Jarvis. While Wolfe has technically faced more Jiu-Jitsu minded competition, the one brown belt that he couldn't best was Tadeusz Ostrowski himself. They met back in the regional QFC circuit with Ostrowski submitting Wolfe in the first round.

(Prediction) Ostrowski repeats history and finishes Wolfe again.

(Light-heavyweight Division) Damien Bishop (6-4) versus Edan De Farias (0-1)

(Preview) Damien Bishop is a light-heavyweight boxer that has a tendency to head hunt with his straight punches. While this makes him a bit predictable, he does throw the occasional shot to the body as well, to mix things up. De Farias is, on paper at least, extremely well rounded. In his lone fight, he put up a gritty performance against a dangerous striker but lost. He will be looking to bring this fight to the ground and keep it there if he can.

(Prediction) Damien Bishop may get taken down briefly but he has more than enough skill on the ground to survive, stall, and get a referee stand up. Get ready to see Bishop rebound from his recent rough patch with a brutal knockout here.

(Bantamweight Division) Francis Underwood (2-0) versus Somulo Mafra (1-2)

(Preview) Undefeated Muay Thai standout Francis “The VP” Underwood is a special kind of striker. He hits with the kind of stopping power that you can't teach; he hits you and the lights go off in your head, just like that. This allows him to strike freely without having to plant his feet to throw with power. His accuracy is part of what makes him a dangerous man to have across the cage from you. Couple that with his improved ground game, thanks to the Nauseated Training center and you've got a serious prospect on your hands. Somulo Mafra is a wrestler that has a little bit of boxing experience that he mostly uses for defense. He is virtually helpess on his feet and spends much of his time going for takedowns or trying to clinch with opponents. He does have decent ground and pound but he may actually find himself caught in a submission if Underwood's blue belt in Jiu-Jitsu is any indication of his submission offense.

(Prediction) I don't think that Underwood has any submission offense; I believe his Jiu-Jitsu is purely for submission and transition defense. Expect Somulo to get a takedown early, get stalled into a standup, and then get knocked out by the accurate power strikes of Francis Underwood who improves to 3-0 with all first round finishes.

(Heavyweight Division) Roger Howlingate (9-11) versus Royce Gracie (3-2)

(Preview) Roger Howlingate is a boxer with heavy hands but only light ground skills. In FFC, he has been given a murderers row of tough grapplers and this fight will be no different. Royce Gracie is no Sean Watson but he is a dangerous submission hunter in his own right. This fight will hinge hugely on the wrestling of both men.

(Prediction) Roger Howlingate stalls on the ground and scores a stoppage on the feet.

(Welterweight Division) Namba Babakla (11-6) versus Steven Josslin (1-3)

(Preview) Namba Babakla should, in all fairness, win this fight in quick and dramatic fashion. He is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt and a veteran of the sport. However, he has won 2 of his last 5 which also puts him in a difficult position on the roster. Meanwhile, Steven Josslin is a freestyle wrestler that really isn't that much of a threat for the former UPF title challenger.

(Prediction) Namba Babakla via first or second round submission, no contest.

(Light-heavyweight Division) Geoff George (0-0) versus Jaye Wong (1-7)

(Preview) The wrestler Geoff George makes his mixed martial arts debut against veteran defeat speech artist Jaye Wong. Geoff is reportedly a blue belt in Jiu-Jitsu to compliment his wrestling pedigree whereas Jaye Wong is all over the place. Unpredictability can be a powerful asset in a fight... but not when YOU'RE the one that doesn't know what techniques you're going to use in your next fight.

(Prediction) Geoff George wins this but I can't predict how well he will do until I see him fight at least one time.

(Epilogue)

Have I mentioned that all of this is possible because of the support and friendship of ORIGO Wear? Dieter Stone is managing a great clothing shop over in Amsterdam with some of the finest fighter apparel on the market. Do you want me to rhyme my sales pitch? Don't be a square, I swear; walk out in Origo Wear. If it's not obvious, I make second grade rhyme ability look good.

Also, please, I implore you: send me quotes regarding your upcoming fight. Tell me why your fighter is going to SMASH his opponent or what your opponent can't do that he needs to do to win. Whatever you want. Be creative, be aggressive, and be fun. Keep in mind that I will edit and rewrite anything you send me to incorporate it into my previews so don't worry about how well you type or anything like that.

Also, if you include a “victory/defeat speech” (under “Edit Fighter Details”) with any message that you want to include in there, I will put that in the reviews for the world to see. So don't hold back, please.

Mixed Martial Farce Magazine (6/27/14)

by Quintin Smith

After the fiasco that was interviewing Brody Macbeth, I was hesitant to do another on location interview with a mixed martial arts fighter. However, my employer promised me that Sean Watson is a more serious competitor and thus won't drive me to drink.

I visited his private training gym, the Turka Elite Gym here in Rio de Janeiro which, as was boasted, has very private training for a very select group of fighters. I remarked to Sean Watson that such individualized training must give a great advantage for him and his team. He responded: “Yes, the training is much more specialized and I can improve faster than I would in a public MMA gym. Here we have a better atmosphere and higher quality classes.

In addition, I have Steve Orvel and Andrzej Sternik to spar with. They both have a lot of experience and are solid fighters. I'm training with guys that have defeated Diego Sanchez including Adam Peri and other brown belts.

I commented that Watson was one of the few fighters that I had interviewed recently that hadn't competed on the regional QFC stage and had instead signed straight with a mixed martial arts company. He responded that this was normal for guys on his fight team.

Sean Watson will be competing against dangerous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist Diego Sanchez in his next outing. Every single time that Sanchez has won a fight, it has been via submission. When asked about how dangerous an opponent like Sanchez is, Sean Watson smiled and said: “Sanchez is a very dangerous opponent if the fight goes to the ground or we clinch up but I've been training hard. I'm way better in wrestling so I won't be falling over.”

Both Sanchez and Watson competed in the KOMMA fighting promotion at the same time but the two never crossed paths there. Watson admits that he wanted to fight Sanchez then but he just hadn't improved his ground game enough for that level of opponent. This is a different era, however. Sanchez may well be on the downside of his career whereas Sean Watson is only getting better. When asked, Watson predicted a clean knockout of Sanchez on the feet.

All of Sean Watson's past fights have ended on the ground so I was a bit surprised at his boast of a standing finish. He assured me that he won't be getting taken down due to his superior wrestling. He told me that he has defeated all of his former opponents with his ground-and-pound but doesn't want to play that game with a black belt like Sanchez. I have to agree: why put yourself in the other guy's comfort zone if you can win elsewhere?

Sean Watson confessed to me that he isn't overly worried about the ground game of Sanchez, however, because he reviewed some of Sanchez's fights and saw Sanchez struggle against opponents with inferior grappling pedigrees. For instance, against powerhouse wrestler David Rymar it took multiple attempts to submit him, despite Rymar only having a blue belt in Jiu-Jitsu. Against pure wrestler, no Jiu-Jitsu experience fighter Tom Tompson it took eleven submission attempts to secure a finish.

Again and again we see Sanchez use the technique known as “submission spam” which is to say that he goes for submission over position. Because of this, I could see a ground battle ensuing with Watson finding himself on top each time.

Watson made a promise for Sanchez and for the fans: “He wants to break my arm and I want to knock his teeth out. It's going to be a slaughter no matter what. I really want to take him out. I want to slice him up and sprinkle him with salt. That's how I want the entire fight to go. If he gets my arm, he'd better break it because otherwise I'm going to knock him out cold. Watson by knockout in the first round. Sanchez! I'm coming for you!

In a change of direction, I brought up the fact that Magnus Barfot and Sagan Tyson will be fighting for the vacant heavyweight championship of the world. I asked him who he thinks will win that fight. He responded confidently that he believed Magnus Barfot would win due to his superior striking skills and the fact that he has won all of his fights via knockout.I am a bit surprised that Magnus will be fighting for the belt in his promotional debut but I'd like to fight the winner for the title. I'm going to have to improve my stand-up a bit first,” he said with a chuckle.

I asked him if he thought he could beat Magnus if they were paired up for the title and he replied, “I'm a very young fighter. After I knock out Diego Sanchez, I'm going to want to take a month or two off to train nothing but striking.

Before I wrap up this interview, I want to give a shout out to ORIGO Fight Wear out of Amsterdam. Buy some of their apparel and be the sharpest dressed fighter to the dance. Don't be caught in your magical whites, wear ORIGO to fights.

World Light-Heayweight Championship

by Quintin Smith

The Fortitude FC Light-heavyweight Champion of the world, Juan Mott, will attempt to defend his newly acquired championship status against wily submission specialist George Pierre Hennard.

Juan Mott claimed the Rio Grand Prix light-heavyweight championship when he defeated both So Nasty and Yasiel Puig for a combined time of one minute and fifteen seconds. The latter fight, against Puig, lasted just five seconds. Five seconds flat and Juan Mott claimed his first world title. He competed briefly for HERITAGE, a popular league that many FFC fighters fought in. While there he crushed RV Malapitan and then suffered his first and only career defeat when he was submitted by Johann Bismark, a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Mott signed with Fortitude FC and rebounded quickly with a smashing victory over Holt McCoy, another black belt that was even more deadly on the ground than the last one. Mott then fought for the inaugural Fortitude FC light-heavyweight championship in a grueling fight that would go the distance; this would be just the second time that Mott saw a judge's decision on one of his fights. Although he held his own, Gerald Garcia proved to be no real match for the newly minted two-time champion, Juan Mott.

With his new title on his mantle, Juan Mott will face his toughest fight to date: George Pierre Hennard represents a tremendous threat to the young champion's throne. GPH is an iron chinned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt that has a high level of wrestling and a stunning array of defensive techniques on his feet. He has never been rocked or knocked down in any of his professional fights. His three victories against two opponents have been submission defeats against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts.

Despite this, Juan Mott intends to persevere; he has vowed to gift the challenger with a new type of defeat on his record: a clean knockout. He admits that this fight may go the distance but is undeterred; he says that he is comfortable with the idea of going through another long and grueling match. But why be boring when I can predict a second round (T)KO via Mortal Kombat fatality or a good old fashioned school yard beat down?

As always, being a piglet that suckles on the corporate money teat, I want to remind you to visit ORIGO Fight Wear . Be smarter than the average bear: shop at ORIGO Fight Wear.

Fortitude FC, in conjunction with the RISSA Fighting Alliance and ORIGO Fight Wear, is proud to present FFC 8: Caine vs Kalnoky. This action packed event took place over at Hayashi's Lounge where every single seat was sold out. People were standing in the fire lanes, bargaining with scalpers at the door trying to get in. This show took place on June 28, 2014 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil also known as the fight capital of the Tycooniverse.

(The Action)

(Light-heavyweight Division) Geoff George (0-0) versus Jaye Wong (1-7)

(Outcome) Geoff George dominated Jaye Wong on the ground using a smother wrestling style and tagging Jaye with ground-and-pound. He dominated so clearly that he scored a pair of 10-8 rounds (in the second and the third, respectively). Some may question why George didn't stop Wong, considering the level of dominance he displayed; however, Wong has only been stopped by strikes once in nine fights. This says more about the one guy to knock wong out than about the other eight opponents that failed to do so. Geoff George def. Jaye Wong via Unanimous Decision (30-25, 30-25, 30-25).

(Expectation) Geoff George wins his professional debut via superior grappling.

(Reality) Geoff George wins his professional debut via superior grappling.

(Welterweight Division) Namba Babakla (11-6) versus Steven Josslin (1-3)

(Outcome) Steven Josslin darted across the cage with a wild flurry of strikes early but Babakla takes him down right into side control. From the dominant position, Babakla fed Josslin an arguably healthy diet of punches and elbows that set him up for the eventual submission. Namba Babakla def. Steven Josslin via Submission (Armbar) at 2:26 of round 1.

(Expectation) Namba Babakla via submission (Rd 1 or Rd 2)

(Reality) Namba Babakla via submission (Rd 1)

(Heavyweight Division) Roger Howlingate (9-11) versus Royce Gracie (3-2)

(Outcome) Royce Gracie took Roger Howlingate down immediately and went for a pair of armlock submissions that didn't go anywhere. Once the pace slowed down a bit, the refree stood the fighters up and Howlingate immediately cracked Gracie with a power right hand that dropped the grappler on his face, just as the round ended. In the second round, a failed takedown led to the two fighters battling for position alon the cage. Back at a distance, Howlingate sensed that Gracie was breaking; he picked up the pace and finished Gracie with a flurry of punches. Roger Howlingate def. Royce Gracie via TKO (Punches) at 2:10 of round 2.

(Expectation) Roger Howlingate stalls on the ground or scores a stoppage on the feet.

(Reality) Roger Howlingate scores a stoppage on the feet.

(Bantamweight Division) Francis Underwood (2-0) versus Somulo Mafra (1-2)

(Outcome) Somulo Mafra wanted a takedowns traight out of the gate but Francis Underwood wasn't having any of that shit. He went to work immediately, tagging Mafra with power punches that rocked him and sent him tumbling to the floor. Mafra dove in with a desperation takedown and eats a left hook on the button for his troubles. Francis Underwood def. Somulo Mafra via KO (Punch) at 0:13 of round 1.

(Expectation) Underwood via (T)KO on the feet after neutralizing Mafrais's ground game.

(Reality) Underwood via KO in the time it takes to light your grill.

(Light-heavyweight Division) Damien Bishop (6-4) versus Edan De Farias (0-1)

(Outcome) Edan De Farias surprised me by taking this fight to Bishop and making it an ugly, grueling wrestling match. Damien Bishop struggled a lot more than I expected him to struggle with the grappling skills of Edan De Farias. Despite this, Damien managed to squeak by in the second round and dominate in the third as De Farias started to slow down. Damien Bishop def. Edan De Farias via Unanimous Decision (29-29, 29-28, 30-28).

(Expectation) Damien Bishop via brutal (T)KO.

(Reality) Damien Bishop via ugly decision.

(Bantamweight Division) Tadeusz Ostrowski (4-0) versus Ray Wolfe (6-5)

(Outcome) Tadesz Ostrowski did not disappoint; he came out and put Ray Wolfe away like leftovers. He dominated him from the opening buzzer all the way up until the submission finish. Tadesz Ostrowski def. Ray Wolfe via Submission (Arm Triangle) at 4:35 of round 3.

(Expectation) Ostrowski via superior Jiu-Jitsu.

(Reality) Ostrowski via superior Jiu-Jitsu.

(Welterweight Division) Danny Glover (12-4) versus Jay Matsuo (5-4)

(Outcome) Danny Glover came out ready to rock and roll, fists raised high and ready to go for the knockout. Unfortunately for him, Jay Matsuo had other things in mind... he wrestle-fked Danny from bell-to-bell. Jay Matsuo def. Danny Glover via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

*After the fight, Danny Glover made a tongue-in-cheek dig at his opponent, Jay Matsuo when he said: “I lost because my opponent spiked my drink with snake venom last night at the bar. I feel sick.” Last I checked, people paid good money to get a little snake venom in their drink.

(Expectation) Matsuo via decision due to superior wrestling.

(Reality) Matsuo via decision due to superior wrestling.

(Welterweight Division, Championship bout) Rafael Misiek (11-7-1) versus Grant Benton (10-7)

(Outcome)

Round 1 – Rafael Misiek ate an early body shot and immediately dove into the guard of Grant Benton. The two fighters swapped submission attempts but it was Grant Benton was clearly the superior grappler. He snaked his way into mount and locked in a fight ending armbar, just like that. Grant Benton def. Rafael Misiek via Submission (Armbar) at 4:21 of round 1 to become the new undisputed Fortitude FC Welterweight Champion of the world!

(Expectation) Grant Benton via unanimous decision.

(Reality) Grant Benton via submission.

(Bantamweight Division, Championship bout) Benny Caine (12-4) versus Tomas Kalnoky (8-3)

(Outcome)

Round 1 - Benny Caine immediately dove in for a takedown and ends up clinched up with Kalnoky. Tomas Kalnoky immediately completes a trip takedown into the half guard of Caine and starts working for a submission. A battle for position ensued with Kalnoky getting into side control and Caine regaining his full guard. As Kalnoky pushed for a superior position, Caine locked in a guillotine choke that put him to sleep not unlike a classroom full of teenagers reading The Scarlet Letter. Benny Caine def. Tomas Kalnoky via Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 4:57 of round 1 to become the new undisputed Fortitude FC Bantamweight Champion of the world!

(Expectation) Benny Caine via superior grappling.

(Reality) Benny Caine via submission.

(Heavyweight Division) Diego Sanchez (7-4) versus Sean Watson (5-0)

(Outcome) All of the talking is coming to an end. Sean Watson has been very vocal in the media and while he has maintained an air of respect with his opponent, he has been very clear of his intentions to knock Diego Sanchez out. When he claimed that he was going to stop Sanchez on the feet, some people questioned his motives, suspected that maybe he was trying to trick Sanchez into expecting a standup battle. It earned some chuckles. Nobody is laughing now.

Round 1 – Sanchez tried for an early takedown and ate a counter body shot for his troubles. Sean Watson kept hammering Sanchez to the body, looking to take away that gas tank. The commentary reported that Sanchez had been drilling takedowns but that gave him little edge here. Sanchez was breathing heavy just a few seconds into the fight, thanks in no small part to the body shots he had been eating. Sean Watson tagged Diego Sanchez with an uppercut and followed him to the ground with some follow-up strikes that ended this fight before it even began. Sean Watson def. Diego Sanchez via TKO (Strikes) at 0:16 of round 1.

*Following the fight, Sean Watson called for a shot at the Fortitude FC Heavyweight Championship. It's hard to know what will happen though since he wanted a couple of months off to train.

*Diego Sanchez was gracious in defeat: “Thanks to my coaches and congratulations to the winner he is a great fighter and thank you to my sponsors and thanks for all who supported me.”

(Expectation) Sean Watson via difficult ground battle (based on his fight history, not his words)

(Reality) Sean Watson backs up his talk and finishes Diego Sanchez via quick knockout.

Awards ($2,000 each)

KO of the Night: Sean Watson (TKO Sanchez 0:16 Rd 1)

SUB of the Night: Tadeusz Ostrowski (SUB Wolfe 4:35 Rd 3)

Fight of the Night: Sean Watson vs Diego Sanchez

(Fun Facts)

1 – For Sean Watson, this marks the first time that he has won a fight on his feet. All five of his prior stoppages were due to his ground and pound.

2 – This marks the third consecutive defeat via strikes for Diego Sanchez.

3 – For Tomas Kalnoky, this fight represents the only time that he has been submitted in his professional fighting career.

4 – Third time is the charm for Grant Benton who has tried, unsuccessfully, to claim two world titles prior to this fight.

5 – History indeed repeated itself. Tadeusz Ostrowski may not have done the job with the same urgency as in their first meeting but getting another submission win over Ray Wolfe must have been nice. The two met in Ostrowski's professional debut back in April in a regional QFC match. At the time, Wolfe was 5-2. What would have been an obvious mismatch in favor of the veteran has proven otherwise.

Prior to his scheduled interview with Mixed Martial Farce Magazine, Magnus Barfot was asked for a comment on a theoretical match-up between Sean Watson and himself. Magnus responded simply: "Sean? Sounds Irish. My ancestors used to pillage and rape the shit out of his ancestors. I don't see why him having a sports training montage for a couple of months would change anything."
