Iron Man Fight Club XXIX (16th December 2017 – Hard Knocks, Los Angeles)

Main Card

Main Event – Ironman Division

(#2) “Corpse Making Cowboy” Don Joe (8-2, 190lbs) vs. (#4) “Big” Steve Butabi (6-1, 290lbs)

The evenings main event features two highly ranked fighters doing battle and both are bringing a distinctly different style to table.

#2 ranked Don Joe is currently on a hot streak of three wins and has taken out two former champions during that time also. Since a change of management not so long ago, Don Joe has adapted his game to more of a hit and run type style. This has helped him avoid the heavy hands of the bigger hitters of the division and that is something that he will most definitely need to do tonight.

“Big” Steve Butabi makes his return to the cage after suffering his first professional loss in an unsuccessful attempt at the Iron Man title. Butabi looked good early but a costly error in judgement ultimately led to submission loss.

It’s no secret that Butabi has some incredibly destructive power in his hands and usually doesn’t need many clean shots to get the job done. Don Joe will have very little room for error when standing in front of Butabi as Butabi is also usually very accurate with what he throws too.

In the current state of the IFC Top 10, Don Joe remains close to receiving another crack at the title but must remain patient and in the meantime keep beating those in front of him. Butabi is a very dangerous opponent for anyone in the IFC and will want to quickly get back on track and put the memory of his title challenge behind him.

Co-Main Event – Ironman Division

(#3) Klaus “The House” Chugman (8-2, 130lbs) vs. (#6) “Gypsy” Tommy Walcott (8-2, 140lbs)

Tonights co-main event of the evening features two of the organisations most successful smaller fighters Klaus “The House” Chugman and “Gypsy” Tommy Walcott.

Klaus Chugman has been in fantastic form over the past few months and has managed to put together a five fight win streak which in turn has propelled him to a career best #3 ranking in the IFC. Chugman also holds the distinction of being joint top dog with most submission wins in the org with seven to his name so far.

His opponent Tommy Walcott comes into this bout following his TKO victory over BJJ fighter Dave Brooksbank. Usually outweighed by a significant amount, Walcott will enjoy being the bigger fighter for once.

At first glance this fight is another classic striker versus grappler affair but upon further inspection you will see that Walcott has developed actually a fairly competent ground game but still one that pales in comparison to his opponents. Should the fight hit the floor, Walcott will find it very difficult to shake off Chugman as Chugman has proven many times to have excellent top control and an extremely potent submission ability.

On the feet there is a gulf between the two fighters with Chugman showing absolutely no interesting in any of the striking arts and should he be unable to transition the fight to the floor, will find himself directly at the mercy of Walcotts boxing skills.

Fight 8 – Ironman Division

Naiki “The Drunken Finnish Demon” Nekele (7-3, 260lbs) vs. Damien “The Terror” Demento (6-3, 185lbs)

For a fighter with a record of 7-3 and of whom just knocked out his previous two opponents, Naiki Nekele probably isn’t getting the recognition he deserves still. Nevertheless, the Finnish heavyweight is slowly making his way up the rankings and is currently not too far away from the Top 20.

For much of his career Nekele has been known for his relentless kick focused style but has recently switched things up and has shown us that he is equally competent with his fists. This sudden change in style has definitely paid off and is reflected in his recent results.

Facing him tonight is a man most likely making his last appearance in the IFC cage before taking that final trip to the Bahamas.

Damien Demento has had a solid career and during his time in the IFC has proven to be a tough competitor for everyone he has faced. His last fight was a very competitive three round decision win over long time IFC vet Boss Yonic in a fight that really could have gone any way.

Naiki Nekele hasn’t faced many grapplers during his ten fights so far but did struggle against submission wrestler Cattan Engoria when they met. Demento has a good takedown and an even better top control game on the ground so Nekele will need to be at his absolute best if he is to avoid ending up on the ground at the mercy of Demento. The fact that Nekele has either developed his Boxing ability or is only now choosing to show it bodes well for his chances of victory as before with his kicking style, although interesting to watch, sometimes led him into long drawn out attrition fights and that is definitely not what he wants against Demento.

A tough fight for Nekele who will definitely have much more to lose from this bout but one that he will need to win if he wants to prove he can be a true contender in the org.

Fight 7 – Ironman Division

Ken “The Worlds Most Lethal” Shamrock (4-5, 175lbs) vs. En “Metal Priest” Esch (5-6, 238lbs)

Next up, two strikers with very different styles clash in a fight that I am very much looking forward to.

Ken “The Worlds Most Lethal” Shamrock is either knocking you out or getting finished and he doesn’t seem to care either way so long as he gets to fight. He made a step up in completion in his last bout, coming in to fight Daniel Sainty in a co-main event slot but got caught out early with a takedown and was unable to fend off the highly accomplished submission artist and lost by first round rear naked choke.

His opponent En “Metal Priest” Esch is also coming into this fight off the back of a loss to Naiki Nekele and will be looking to avenge that loss here against Shamrock. During that fight, Esch was unable to impose his clinch favored style and actually ended up getting out struck by Nekele when he did manage to get inside so it will be interesting to see if Esch has made any adjustments during the time between fights.

This fight is highly likely to be fought on the feet although Shamrock will forever been known for his sneaky white belt submission win against Terje Warholm. It’s possible that should Esch find himself having success in the clinch, Shamrock might look for a repeat of that fight and pull guard to avoid getting ground up by Esch. Shamrock will be the lighter fighter in this one and will give up some 65lbs come fight time. Shamrock has a decent record for KO’s but could the weight difference be a factor here tonight?

A tough fight to call but a KO going either way would be a safe bet for sure.

Undercard

Fight 6 – Ironman Division

Hamish “The Pig” McTavish (4-2, 292lbs) vs. Terje “Nightmare” Warholm (3-2-1, 221lbs)

Gargantuan grappler Hamish “The Pig” McTavish makes his return to the cage after a dominating TKO victory over Andy Bogard in his debut. There it took him only one takedown and seven brutal strikes on the ground to finish the experienced IFC vet in under two minutes.

Tonight he’ll face Terje “Nightmare” Warholm who is coming into the bout off of a solid victory over hot prospect Rober Garfield. In that fight Warholm mixed up his strikes well but looked particularly dangerous in the clinch and did the bulk of his damage there and ended the fight in the third round by TKO.

There is no doubt that McTavish will be looking to get this fight to the ground quickly and without taking any damage. Warholm will be aware of that and will have been working hard on a solution as he will not want to spend even a single second under the destructive ground and pound of McTavish.

Both fighters are in good form and both will be keen to keep their winning streaks going.

Fight 5 – New Blood Division

Ricardo Gracie (2-0, 176lbs) vs. Tan Han Tuong (3-1, 271lbs)

Into the New Blood Division now and two fighters who are currently on the right path to challenging for the New Blood title.

Ricardo Gracie, a recently turned nineteen year old Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt who has won his first two fights in the IFC and has been developing other areas of his game lately. In his last fight he showed just how effective his ground game is when he dominated fellow brown belt Paul Walker over three rounds to win a unanimous decision.

His opponent is Tan Han Tuong, an eighteen year old striker with a record of 3-1 and who has also won his first two fights in the IFC. Both victories have come by KO and coincidentally both fighters share a win over the same opponent.

The key to this fight will be in the wrestling. Both have a similar level of ability and so it will be interesting to see how Gracie will approach this fight. Tuong likes to strikes from a distance so any opportunities to pull guard from the clinch will need to be initiated by Gracie and that means getting in close.

This is a pivotal moment for both fighters if they have any aspirations of becoming champion in the division. A difficult task for Gracie as he will need to do most to secure the victory but Tuong has tasted defeated before and Gracie has not making him the slight favorite going into this bout

Fight 4 – Ironman Division

Chara Zaad (6-5, 210lbs) vs. Tyrano “Action” Jackson (2-1, 215lbs)

Journeyman boxer Chara Zaad will be making his twelfth appearance in the IFC cage tonight and brings a wealth of experience fighting at this level. He has had some mixed results throughout his career but has also had some very exciting wars and never backed down from anyone.

Tonight he’ll face IFC newcomer Tyrano “Action” Jackson who is fresh off a successful IFC debut against Sascha Koniezko at Mid Week 9. Relatively inexperienced in comparison, Jackson’s career is really only just getting started although he has been training in mma a little longer than Zaad.

Jackson’s specialty is submission wrestling and though he has an overall mediocre ability on the feet, it would be a feat possibly too far to match the more experienced striker toe to toe. Zaad has a similar level of wrestling to Jackson but uses it defensively in order to remain where he is most comfortable and that is picking his opponent apart from a distance.

Both are of similar height and weight so really it is their abilities that will do the talking tonight.

Fight 3 – New Blood Division

Duc Minh “Ram” Pham (4-1, 175lbs) vs. Hank “Hill” Jones (2-1, 212lbs)

Another fight from the New Blood Division and another fighter making a strong push for the title with Duc Minh “Ram” Pham currently on a two fight win streak since joining the IFC. Both of those fights ended with a TKO finish and with Pham looking formidable indeed.

He’ll face a tough challenge in Hank “Hill” Jones tonight as Jones will be itching the redeem his last performance where he was taken down and controlled by Terry Crew and submitted near the end of the first round. Previous to that Jones had been undefeated at 2-0 so will be dealing with his first professional loss coming into this bout.

This is a tough fight for Pham as Jones is a little further along with his Muay Thai and also with his BJJ currently holding the rank of Blue opposed to Pham’s beginner white. Pham may have enough wrestling to keep the fight standing if he chooses but will have to really make his shots count if he is going to trade with the bigger Jones.

Jones will have nothing to having lose coming into this bout where as for Pham, another win here would put him at 5-1 and with a win streak of 3. A very solid case for a shot at the title.

Prelims

Fight 2 – Ironman Division

Hellas “Logos” Pankratios (0-1, 300lbs) vs. Curtis “Showtime” Page (0-2, 160lbs)

A fight guaranteed to get the blood pumping early in the evening is IFC newcomer Hellas “Logos” Pankratios making his debut against striker Curtis “Showtime” Page.

Pankratios comes to the IFC with a record of 0-1 so really is only just getting started in MMA. He has a well rounded skill set and looks to be competent in all areas.

Welcoming him into the IFC tonight is Curtis Page, a striker with a record of 0-2. Page has struggled so far in his career and, like Pankratios, will be looking to pick up his first win.

Page is the better striker overall by a decent margin but not enough to completely disregard Pankratios in that area. Pankratios really has the edge in the grappling department with Page showing no interesting in anything to do with wrestling or BJJ. If the fight should hit the floor Page will be well out of his depth and likely unable to shake of the three hundred pound Pankratios.

Not many see this fight going the distance and many are betting on a KO coming from one side or the other. Either way someone will be putting their losing ways behind them and picking up their first professional win.

Fight 1 – New Blood Division

Daniel Thielke (0-2, 152lbs) vs. Paul “Tapout” Walker (2-2, 186lbs)

Opening the evening for us tonight, a fight from the New Blood Division and two fighters currently struggling for wins.

Daniel Thielke made his IFC and MMA debut in the main division and was knocked out by Bricks Thrower late in round 1. He then moved down to the New Blood Division in order to be competitive but ran into a brick wall by the name of Duc Minh Pham there too losing by TKO in the second round. Now currently 0-2, Thielke will really need to turn things around here if he is to stand any chance of building up enough to challenge for the title before turning twenty.

The same really applies for his opponent Paul “Tapout” Walker who, though arriving in the IFC with a promising record of 2-0, has since dropped back to back fights leaving him close to the bottom of the New Blood Division’s roster.

As it is for most BJJ fighters like Walker, the biggest challenge is getting the fight to the floor and with Thielke’s wonderful wrestling pedigree doing so will be even more challenging. Walker has shown a willingness to trade however and though Thielke has a respectable level of boxing, there is no gulf between them in that area and Walker could find that his best route inside is by punching his way in.

Iron Man Fight Club XXIX - 16th December 2017 (Hard Knocks, Los Angeles)

Event Recap

Main Event – Iron Man Division

“Big” Steve Butabi vs “Corpse Making Cowboy” Don Joe

It was a lackluster return for the big super-heavyweight Steve Butabi since his unsuccessful crack at the title in his last fight but it was through no fault of his own.

Throughout the fight Butabi tried to engage on the outside but his opponent Don Joe, having no intention of ending up of the wrong end of one of Butabi’s patented rockets, seemed content to try and stay out of range much to the detriment of the fans in attendance.

The fight went the distance and during the fifteen minutes of one sided action Don Joe managed to land only three single strikes in the clinch. The rest was all Butabi who naturally won a well deserved decision and climbed a spot in the rankings back up to #3

Steve Butabi defeated Don Joe by Decision (Unanimous)

It was a fight to forget but still a win for the big guy who can now start to put the past title challenge behind him and begin to prepare for future opportunities.

An extremely poor performance from Don Joe who now drops down from #2 to #5

Co-Main Event – Iron Man Division

Klaus “The House” Chugman vs “Gypsy” Tommy Walcott

In start contrast from the main event, tonight's co-main event was a short and sweet, balls to the wall bantamweight affair with Klaus Chugman continuing his rise to the top with another big win this time over #6 Tommy Walcott

Chugman needed a couple of stiff, sharp jabs to the face before he started to get in the game and get an early takedown into side control. From there and despite Walcott’s improvements in his grappling during training, Chugman didn’t need very long before he was able tie the noose around Walcott’s neck and finish him off with a tight guillotine.

A superb win for Chugman to makee it look easy against a high level striker who had been making some great improvements to his overall game. On this occasion however, it wasn’t enough.

Klaus Chugman defeated Tommy Walcott by Submission (Guillotine) at 1:39 of Round 1

With this win Chugman improves his record to 10-2 and continues on his winning streak which now stands at six. Also, with this latest submission, Chugman stands alone at the top of the most submission wins in the org with 8, pulling ahead of Daniel Sainty for the first time in a while.

Walcott drops down to #10 in the org and is knows he needs to improve his take down defense further if he is to find more consistency at the top of the Iron Man ranks.

Fight 8 – Iron Man Division

Naiki “The Drunken Finnish Demon” Nekele vs. Damian “The Terror” Demento

Damian Demento made sure to go out with a bang during his retirement fight despite the best efforts of kicking specialist Naiki Nekele.

Nekele had a good first round managing to land some effective shots and opening up a cut on Demento. Demento managed to get the takedown just before the three minute mark but was unable to do enough to justify cancelling out Nekele’s earlier damage.

A more persistent Demento in the second round managed to get the take down earlier but not before once again taking some stiff shots to the face. This time however Demento was able to control the round and land some stinging ground and pound on the prone striker who held out until the end of the bell.

Going into round 3 the fight was still up for grabs but once aagain Demento secured the early takedown and proceeded to tee off on Nekele until the referee was forced to stop the fight just before minute four.

Damien Demento defeated Naiki Nekele by TKO (Strikes) at 3:56 of Round 3

Fight 7 – Iron Man Division

En “Metal Priest” Esch vs. Ken “The Worlds Most Dangerous” Shamrock

Ken Shamrock, another fighter threatening retirement, made sure to give himself something to think about as he took a hard fought decision victory over clinch specialist En Esch.

Much like the previous fight, Esch took the first round and even opened up an early cut on Shamrock. Shamrock fought he way back into the fight and rocked Esch late in the bout but still most considered it Esch’s round.

Rounds two and three went to Shamrock who landed some good shots on the outside but surprisingly beat Esch to the punch during most of the clinch exchanges. This level of volume was sure to be the deciding factor and earned Shamrock the fifth win of his career

Ken Shamrock defeated En Esch by Decision (Unanimous)

Undercard

Hamish McTavish brutalized Terje Warholm with some horrific ground and pound and ended the fight by KO at 4:32 of Round 1. McTavish moves his win streak to four in a row and his career record to 5-2.

A superb first round KO for Tan Han Tuong over Ricardo Gracie in the New Blood Division earned him “KO of the night” honors and brings him to 4-1 and looking like a solid challenger to the New Blood crown.

Tyrano Jackson defeated boxer Chara Zaad by Kimura submission at 3:58 of Round 1 bringing his record to 3-1

Back in the New Blood Division, Hank Jones and Duc Minh Pham had an absolute war and earned themselves a fight of the night bonus.

Pham took the initiative landed heavy shots that wobbled Jones and opened a cut on his face. Jones stayed calm, absorbing the oncoming assault from Pham and even managed to land some shots of his own before securing the take down and taking control with his own ground and pound.

Around the three minute mark, Jones landed a flurry of strikes which rocked Pham and left him open to submission attempts. Pham hung on by the skin of his teeth and staggered into round two.

Pham came back out for round two swinging and landed a lovely cross right on the button. Both fighters stood toe to toe trading shots before Jones lured Phams guard down with a jab to the body and followed up with a huge left, right combo that dropped Pham to the ground.

Jones motioned Pham back to his feet and proceeded to land yet another huge right that send him right back down. Like a true warrior Pham sprang right back up but the damage was done and Jones hit him with a monstrous hook that dropped him down for the third and final time winning the fight by KO at 0:57 of Round 2

Prelims.

Hellas Pankratios defeated Curtis Page by Submission (Kimura) at 4:59 of Round 2

Paul Walker defeated Daniel Thielke by Submission (Armbar) at 0:30 of Round 1

Iron Man Fight Club XXX (23rd December 2017 – King Theatre, Los Angeles)

Main Card

Main Event – Iron Man Division

Schmorgen Biscuit (7-3, 210lbs) vs. “Red Ribbon Army’s” Android Seventeen (7-6, 281lbs)

Our main event of the evening features submission wrestler Schmorgen Biscuit who is still fighting hard to break into the Top 10 of the division taking on the under-performing super heavyweight striker Android Seventeen who seems to be in something of a crisis mode lately.

Schmorgen Biscuit comes into this bout of the back of a dominating victory over three hundred pound grappler Greg “The Gronk” Bell. During that bout Biscuit showed just how good his top game had become and, despite not being able to get the finish, was in control of the fight from beginning to end. Currently undefeated in his last two, Biscuit will now look to pile on the pressure to an already struggling fighter.

Android Seventeen entered the IFC as a truly frightening prospect. At 6-1 with all wins coming by first round knock out, Seventeen confirmed himself as a the #1 challenger when he took the scalp of then next in line Tommy Walcott by first round knockout in his IFC debut.

Earning his shot at the title, Seventeen faced an undefeated Mew Choo and though many believed he could be the first to dethrone the champion, he succumb to a first round submission loss that triggered his abysmal run of form of late. Now staring down the barrel of a five fight losing streak with four of those by submission, Seventeen will need a massive performance tonight to break the curse of submission loses currently upon him.

Seventeen’s management requested to face a ground fighter upon his return and they have stated that they believe his ground weaknesses fixed so it will be interesting to see what he will do differently should the fight hit the floor.

Biscuit is not a small man but Seventeen will outweigh him by some seventy pounds perhaps making his job of staying on his feet that much easier. For Seventeen his strength is still in his boxing and a fighter with such KO credentials can never be overlooked however Biscuit has a big advantage in the grappling and it would take an absolutely massive effort to stop him on the ground.

Seventeen needs to hope that he can keep the fight standing long enough to land just one of his power strikes as no matter how hard he has worked on his ground skills he will not survive for long under Biscuits aggressive ground and pound attack.

Biscuit the bookies favorite going into this fight but don’t count out a fighter with seven wins all by first round KO.

Co-Main Event – Iron Man Division

Daniel “The Unsanitary” Sainty (7-5, 150lbs) vs. Big Murha (3-0, 215lbs)

The co-main event features up and coming prospect Big Murha taking on experienced jiu-jitsu fighter Daniel “The Unsanitary” Sainty.

Daniel Sainty made his MMA debut back at IFC I and since that time has developed into one of the organisations most prolific submission artists and has only just lost his shared first place ranking for “most submissions wins” in the org. Every fight he has won has been by carefully crafted submission victory and tonight he will need every bit of that skill and experience if he is to triumph over what is quite possible his toughest opponent to date.

Big Murha is still in the infancy of his MMA career but already he has amassed a perfect 3-0 record and is becoming well known for his overwhelming clinch based style. Still only nineteen years of age, Murha is a fighter destined for big things if he is to follow the current trajectory and has just re-signed his IFC contract keeping him here for a little while longer at least.

On paper Sainty has one shot of winning this fight and that is by taking the fight to the ground where he has proven his skills many times. Murha, as stated before, employs a very effective clinch game and would likely grind Sainty up if given too much time to do so but this could also be a blessing for the smaller grappler as he would not need to rely on shooting from the outside as instead Murha will likely come to him. A risky tactic that would still involve swimming in the shark tank of Murha’s clinch and also with no guarantees of success.

Murha will be going into this fight as the slight favorite and a victory over former top 10 ranked Sainty would most definitely be his biggest to date.

Fight 8 – Iron Man Division

Greg “The Gronk” Bell (5-8, 300lbs) vs. “The Phenomenal” Orgasmic Bliss (2-1, 300lbs)

Next up, a battle of giants as two three hundred pound behemoths do battle in what is largely expected to be a ground war.

Greg “The Gronk” Bell has fallen quite a distance from his one time ranking of #5 in the org and has instead become a solid gate keeper into the upper reaches of the IFC roster. By now an experienced veteran of the Iron Man Fight club, Bell will be making his fourteenth appearance for the org and with it will move into first for most fights in the org. He will be coming into this fight with a two fight losing streak and as per usual lately will be facing a fighter on his way up in the IFC.

“The Phenomenal” Orgasmic Bliss comes into this fight with a record of 2-1. An unsuccessful MMA debut in the QFC before joining the IFC where he has defeated both of his first two opponents by first round submission.

Coming into this fight Bliss will not be able to draw upon past experiences like Bell and will instead be relying on a superior game plan from his camp.

Both fighters look to be fairly even in their skills but Bell will have a slight edge in the boxing. Bell has been training for much longer than Bliss and this will be his biggest advantage and one that will be very difficult for Bliss to overcome.

Bell will go into this fight as the bookies favorite based solely on this but with nothing to lose but pride we look forward to seeing just what Bliss can do against much more experienced opposition

Fight 7 – Iron Man Division

Crack Head “Roks” (8-4, 153lbs) vs. Kongchai Phetboonme (3-1, 149lbs)

Our final fight of the main card is a grudge match between two fighters with previous history.

Called out by rival org fighter Kongchai Phetboonme, Crack Head “Roks” will represent the IFC in a rematch of their first fight in which Head dominated and ended with a third round submission. Now, feeling as though he has surpassed Head in skill, Kongchai will be looking to avenge the one loss on his record.

Since joining the IFC Crack Head has gone a respectable 3-1 although he will be coming into this fight off the back of an unfortunate 18 second KO loss to to Brock Sampson. Not the most confidence inducing performance but Head has lost before as has always managed to come back strong.

After losing in their first encounter, Phetboonme went on different paths with the Thai Boxing from Isaan heading to The Beatdown in Hilo. There he has managed to go undefeated in three fights and has been allowed to make a one off appearance here in order to satiate his thirst for vengeance.

While it’s true that Phetboonme has improved his skills past what Head will remember the match up still remains competitive with both fighters similar to each other in most areas. The one obvious advantage for Phetboonme will be his Muay Thai skills and, obviously confident in those skills, has promised to knock Crack Head out within two minutes

Head is the more experienced of the two and has beaten some tough fighters since joining the org. If he can get the fight to the floor he has a good chance of once again catching his invading opponent and putting to rest any further doubt in Phetboonme’s mind

Whatever happens during this fight it is likely to be with mean intentions and I for one cant wait to see who will come out on top

Undercard

Fight 6 – New Blood Division

Terry Crew (3-1, 200lbs) vs. Xing “Rufus” Pugberg (3-1, 130lbs)

Since getting knocked out of the first New Blood Tournament in the second round, Terry Crew has re-emerged as a potential title challenger after winning his last two fights in dramatic fashion. A twenty eight second submission win against Kenny Tchusuk at IFC XXII and then another submission win this time against Hank Jones at the dying seconds of round one. At one time considering retirement, Crew has made some sharp improvements lately and feels as though he has a lot more to offer. Clearly wanting to challenge himself he requested the fight against his opponent tonight.

Xing “Rufus” Pugberg makes his return to the cage fresh from his third place victory in the first New Blood Tournament. Suffering a brutal KO loss in the semi-final, Pugberg overcame to see off the more experienced Jonathan Davis at the finals with a quick first round submission win. Now with a record of 3-1 Pugberg is one of a handful of fighters close to staking a claim for the next shot at the title.

Both these fighters have displayed their preference for the submission game but both have distinctly different abilities that get them there. Crew’s main focus is his jui-jitsu although he has really improved his wrestling of late and Pugberg prefers to use his wrestling as the focal point of his attack. Both have a perfect record of submission victories and both have suffered a single solitary KO loss. Crew will outweigh Pugberg by around seventy pounds on the night and that could be a deciding factor in the result.

Fight 5 – Iron Man Division

Vladimir “The Horizontal” Impaler (4-2, 270lbs) vs. Jonathan “Money Shot” Davis (4-3, 142lbs)

Next up an exciting bout featuring big heavyweight Vladimir “The Horizontal” Impaler taking on natural bantamweight Jonathan “Money Shot” Davis who will be making his first appearance in the Iron Man division since moving up from the New Blood.

Vladimir Impaler has been doing a decent job since joining the IFC managing two wins out of three fights so far. His last fight against pure BJJ fighter Lord Beerus was a dominant one, completely shutting down the takedown attempts of Beerus and landing everything he threw in retaliation and eventually getting the TKO stoppage in the first round. With that win bringing his overall record to 4-2 and with three KO’s to his name, Impaler definitely looks to be a decent prospect and a solid test for most in the IFC currently.

Facing him tonight is former New Blood Tournament participant Jonathan Davis. Davis entered the tournament as one of the older fighters involved and had already gained a little experience in the now defunct Empire Grind org in New York and had managed a 2-1 record there. Davis started the tournament well and quickly emerged as one of the front runners to take it all beating both of his opponents by first round KO. In the Semi-Final he was matched against tournament runner up Micky Kirby and was unable to deal with the superior wrestling of his opponent. A second round TKO loss forced him into the third place match up against Xing Pugberg at the finals and it was a fight Davis was highly favored to win. A quick takedown later and Davis found himself forced to tap to an armbar and into a surprise fourth place finish overall. Now, moving up to the main division, Davis will be looking to push past those results and begin anew tonight.

Overall, Impaler has a more well rounded stand up game and combined with his high volume, high accuracy style and taking into account the massive weight advantage he will enjoy, Davis may feel that his best chance of wining would be in his superior ground skills. It’s possible he could survive on his feet using his speed and evasion but whether he could get the finish from there is another question that will need to be answered.

Both fighters are still very young and have plenty of time to work past any bad results suffered tonight but nether will feel as though they deserve to linger in the lower end of the IFC roster and perhaps that will be the motivating factor going into this fight tonight

Fight 4 – Iron Man Division

“The Barbarian” Battle Ram (9-4, 220lbs) vs. Vedran “Blondebeard” Stefanovic (3-3, 260lbs)

Next up, a fight that is sure to be an exciting one with 9-4 “The Barbarian” Battle Ram taking on powerful heavyweight brawler Vedran “Blondebeard” Stefanovic

Battle Ram comes into this fight off the back of a disappointing decision loss to a departing Dieter Schaafs. It was a fight that really was Battle Ram’s for the taking with insiders giving up the info that Schaafs was severely fatigued and mentally unprepared. In that fight Ram worked well from the outside landing some decent shots but was unable to deal with the strong clinch game of Schaafs of which the fight spent the vast majority of its time. Previous to that loss it seemed as though Ram was starting to get going again under new management so the loss will doubt be an upsetting one for Ram’s team.

His opponent Vedran Stefanovic comes into this bout on a two fight losing streak against some very tough opponents indeed. In his last, against rising star Big Murha, Stefanovic found himself completely shut down and was unable to mount any offence at all and ended up on the wrong end of a TKO in the first round. Tonight he will get the opportunity to make amends.

This bout is expected to be highly competitive and with both fighters looking to take their frustrations out on each other. Stefanovic is more of the typical type older boxer we are used to seeing with a respectable level of defensive wrestling skill in order to keep the fight standing where as Battle Ram is more well rounded overall and could, in theory, try to take the fight where Stefanovic is weakest. Ram is by no means a bad striker and may well fancy his chances against Stefanovic’s wild stand up style but should he take the fight to the floor, would be highly favored to get the win. If the fight stays standing Stefanovic would have more opportunity's to land one of his powerful bombs of which carry a proven “lights out” guarantee

Fight 3 – Iron Man Division

Bea “Rick” Mason (5-4, 175lbs) vs. Lord “God Of Destruction” Beerus (3-3, 185lbs)

Next up, two highly skilled jiu-jitsu fighters will have the opportunity to show just who is the better ground fighter when Bea “Rick” Mason takes on Lord “God of Destruction” Beerus.

With pure BJJ fighters fairing notoriously badly, Bea Mason has already performed beyond expectation since joining the IFC and has managed a decent 2-1 record so far. His last fight was particularly pleasing to watch when he took out heavyweight wrestler Paul Michael Levesque with a slick triangle choke in just eighteen seconds. Now, it looks as though Mason has been improving his stand up skills also so we could be seeing an interesting evolution for the 5-4 fighter.

Lord Beerus returns tonight after a couple of unsuccessful attempts at taking out highly skilled strikers. With quick first round losses to Terry Bogard and Vladimir Impaler, those loses really highlight the problems that a pure BJJ fighter faces. Unable to get the fight to the floor due to a lack of take down ability and unable to defend on the feet, the BJJ fighter usually finds himself at the mercy of the striker. Previous to those losses Beerus has been doing well managing three wins out of four and with all wins by submission. Tonight Beerus will have a chance to get back into winning ways but he still find himself against a superior striker.

Prelims

Fight 2 – Iron Man Division

Sirimongkol Niyotrong (2-3, 152lbs) vs. Zoran Sablic (4-1, 204lbs)

This fight should be a mere formality for Sirimongkol Nioyotrong as insiders tell us that Zoran Sablic hasn’t even been turning up at the gym in preparation for this one. A shame as Sablic had gotten off to a good start in the past.

Niyotrong should have enough in him to keep up with Sablic on the ground and any time spent on the feet is likely to go his way also.

This is the fight game however and anything can happen on the night.

Fight 1 – Iron Man Division

Yuri “Subversion” Bezmenov (1-0, 207lbs) vs. James “The Nervous” Gregor (4-8, 210lbs)

Kicking of the evening we have the IFC debut of a very exciting young prospect in Yuri “Subversion” Bezmenov. Though still green with a record of 1-0 make no mistake Bezmenov has been preparing himself for a while now while scouting for a location to terrorize and the IFC seems to be that place.

Obviously no stranger to the wrestling mat, our sources tell us that Bezmenov also has an exceptional high level ground game and currently holds a brown belt in BJJ.

Welcoming the newcomer tonight is experienced IFC veteran James “The Nervous” Gregor who is coming into this fight on quite the cold streak. Currently 4-8 overall, Gregor has dropped his last four fights despite making some good progress in his skills overall and also finds himself rock bottom of the IFC rankings. On paper Gregor doesn’t seem to warrant such a lowly standing but the results can’t lie and on the plus side, the only way is up from here.

Bezmenov isn’t a complete novice in the striking department but will still find the stand up to be the most hazardous part of this fight and must be careful not get caught coming in as Gregor has shown some decent KO capabilities in the past when he has gotten a chance.

Gregor will need to finish this fight fast if he is to stand a chance as once this fight hits the floor there will be no competition between them.

A good first test for Bezmenov who is expected to do what needs to be done and get his first win in the IFC.

Iron Man Fight Club XXX
(23rd December 2017 – King Theatre, Los Angeles)
Post Fight Recap
Main Event - Iron Man Division
“Red Ribbon Army’s” Android Seventeen vs Schmorgan Biscuit
Natural super-heavyweight Android Seventeen’s woeful run of form didn’t get any better this evening as he dropped to his sixth loss in a row and fifth by submission to ever improving young star Schmorgan Biscuit.
Biscuit didn’t waste any time in this one instantly shooting for a takedown into side control and not allowing Seventeen even a single chance to land one of those huge strikes of his. Seventeen’s ground skills did look much improved however and he quickly regained guard and attempted a guillotine choke which Biscuit defended. There was some jostling for control early with both fighters managing to sweep the other before Biscuit landed in top position and began to land some decent shots from the guard. Seventeen remained cool and managed to sweep Biscuit once more forcing him to fight from his back. Just after the two minute mark Biscuit was able to create some space enough to throw his legs up for a triangle choke attempt but Seventeen held firm forcing Biscuit to switch to the armbar and leaving Seventeen no option but to tap.
Schmorgen Biscuit defeated Android Seventeen by Submission (Armbar) at 2:36 of Round 1
Another disappointing result for Seventeen who now drops to a 7-7 record and well out of the Top 15 facing a very long climb ahead of him if he is to return to the top of the rankings.
Biscuit improves to 8-3 and with the win tonight moves his win streak to three in a row and breaks back into the Top 10 at #10
Co-Main Event – Iron Man Division
Daniel “The Unsanitary” Sainty vs Big Murha
Another big win for up and coming star Big Murha this taking the scalp of former top 10 fighter Daniel Sainty.
Sainty was always going to struggle if he couldn’t get the fight to the floor but surprised many tonight with a half decent display of striking on the feet and actually managed to land a few good shots. However, striking is not his strong point and it was only a matter of time before Murha caught him with something and near to the end of round one, Murha landed a big right hand that dropped Sainty to the canvas before the bell rang and allowed Sainty to recover.
Into the second round Sainty was still unable to get his hands on Murha who had changed up his tactics for this one and opted to stay at a distance and around the two minute mark caught Sainty with a flurry of strikes that knocked him senseless forcing the referee to step in before Sainty could take more punishment
Big Murha defeated Daniel Sainty by TKO (Strikes) at 1:59 of Round 1
With this win Murha remains undefeated after four fights and is starting to climb above the mid way point of the roster. With another couple of performances like tonight it might not be long before we see Murha entering the Top 10
Other fights from the evening
Greg Bell took full advantage of the experience gap between Orgasmic Bliss and himself and managed to pick up a TKO victory by doctor stoppage and take his record to 6-8
Vindication for Kongchai Phetboonme who defeated rival Crack Head in a little over two minutes and erasing the one loss suffered from the beginning of his career. Phetboonme now returns to back to Hilo for now but perhaps we might one day see him again in the IFC cage.
A big fight at the top of the New Blood division roster with Terry Crew and Xing Pugberg going at it in a very competitive bout that was closer to a grappling match than an MMA fight. Crew picked off a weak leg kick from Pugberg and countered with a good takedown and immediately had Pugberg under pressure with relentless submission attempts. The tide began to turn just after the two minute mark with Pugberg beginning his own submission assault before finally catching Crew with a tight triangle with only nineteen seconds of round one to go.
Disappointment for Jonathan Davis who was making his first appearance in the Iron Man division after his run in the first New Blood tournament in which he ended in fourth place. Giving up over one hundred and twenty pounds in weight to Vladimir Impaler, Davis found himself on the wrong end of too many powerful shots and succumb to a TKO loss at 3:57 of Round 1.
Not the start that Davis will have wanted in his first appearance in a new division and with this loss moves to 4-4 and currently on a three fight losing streak. Impaler’s second win in a row and improves his record to 5-2
A big knockout for Vedran Stefanovic over Battle Ram in a very entertaining scrap that earned Stefanovic both fight of the night honors and knockout of the night
Sirimongkol Niyotrong defeated Zoran Sablic over three round to win a unanimous decision.
And lastly newcomer Yuri Bezmenov had a dominant debut winning in just under two minutes by guillotine submission over experienced scrapper James Gregor

Thank you for the opportunity. Me and Kongchai were both very pleased to fight at IFC. I gave my word that I would comeback to The Beatdown in Hilo but who knows about the future. What I know is that I'll be fighting at the IFC tournament in january so see you all!

Thanks to Crack Head and his manager Big Bob as well. I only insisted in that rematch because I was following Crack Head pulling these miracle wins in the openweight division. that guy is a true Tycoon warrior fighting all comers with no great hiddens and certainly not ducking or hanging on to past achievements.

Cheers and Good luck!

Iron Man Fight Club – Mid Week 12

27th December 2017 (Hard Knocks, Los Angeles)

Main Card

Main Event – Iron Man Division

(#7) Wilson “KO” Reyes (7-4, 287lbs) vs. (#8) Vincent Lemieux (8-4, 270lbs)

Our main event of the evening is between two fighters with an impressive record of finishes between them and what could potentially be fight of the night.

Wilson “KO” Reyes is coming into this fight off the back of a crushing victory over former IFC champion Steven Kennedy. In that fight it took him just under two minutes in the clinch to completely dismantle the fallen champion and loudly proclaim his intentions at the top of the Iron Man ranks. Now with a record of 7-4 and on a win streak of three, Reyes will tangle with another big finisher in Vincent Lemieux.

Lemieux had a big debut at IFC Mid Week 11 when he took out solid prospect Jaxson Wilder with a first round KO in under a minute. The knockout marked his eighth in a row after a rocky start to his MMA career where he drops he first four but since turning that corner he has been looking nothing short of unstoppable.

Both fighters have made an immediate impact at the top of the IFC rankings with both entering the Top 10 in only a very short time of being here.

Both are of a very similar height and weight and both are of a similar skill level when it comes to their grappling. The biggest difference between them is their preference in the stand up with Reyes leaning more towards Muay Thai and Lemiuex to boxing. Both fighters have a frightening record of finishes with both currently standing at 100%.

On paper this should be a very competitive fight and is also likely to be an important one with regards to the divisions title path. With the Iron Man Fight Club’s upper ranks becoming more and more competitive with each passing event, it’s going to take an even greater effort to climb to the top of the mountain and stay there long enough to stake a claim. Both fighters currently look like very capable challengers but tonight one fighter will take a step closer to the gold while the other is sent straight to the back of the line

Co-Main Event – Iron Man Division

Steven “The Steamroller” Kennedy (7-6, 178lbs) vs. Terry Bogard (5-2, 179lbs)

Steven Kennedy has had some mixed results of late but still remains one of the top tier fighters of the division. The former champion has managed a respectable three wins out of his last five and currently resides in around the Top 15 of the division but will most likely need a win tonight to stay afloat. His last bout was a one he will want to forget quickly as he was completely overwhelmed and dominated by an up and coming Wilson Reyes and didn’t manage to get off a single offensive manoeuvre.

Making another step up in competition tonight is Terry Bogard who is fresh off of a career best performance against fellow prospect Trey Daniels. In that fight Bogard showcased some destructive power that made an absolute mess of Daniels face and forced the doctor to stop the fight at barely over three minutes into the fight. It was Bogard’s fifth win of his career and with it put him into the Top 15 among some of the divisions very best fighters. Tonight he will get an opportunity to take out a former champion and perhaps make his way into the Top 10.

Kennedy is with out a doubt at his best when he is using his grappling to control the fight. Whenever he chooses to stand or is unable to get the fight to the floor his chances of winning go down considerably. Bogard is likely to knock his block off if the fight turns into a brawl so Kennedy must stay out of that dangerous range at all costs and close the gap quickly. Bogard in turn would be no match for Kennedy on the ground and so must let his hands go and hope to catch the former champion sooner rather than later in the fight.

This is a big fight for both fighters with Kennedy on his way down and Bogard coming up. Both will want to see themselves climbing towards the #1 spot and will not want to slide outside of the current top 15.

Kennedy the slight favorite going into this fight with bookies predicting a submission victory.

Fight 8 – Iron Man Division

Bricks “Parpaing” Thrower (10-5, 204lbs) vs. Ricky “Big Tex” Hughes (8-6, 264lbs)

A very exciting opportunity for youngster Bricks “Parpaing” Thrower who tonight gets to take on a former champion and current Hall of Famer in Ricky “Big Tex” Hughes. Hughes has fallen a long way since his days terrorizing the division and Thrower might feel that Big Tex is ripe for the picking.

Thrower has improved a lot since the making his debut all the way back at IFC 1 and has climbed out from the very bottom of the pile and clawed his way to around the top 20. Thrower has also been one of the most active fighters in the IFC and along with a few other including Ricky Hughes, currently sit tied at #1 for “Most Fights in the Org” with 13.

Thrower has been very slowly getting better and better and it’s a real pleasure watching him grow from his unfancied underdog beginnings.

If it’s been a pleasure watching Thrower get better, it’s been quite the opposite watching IFC favorite Ricky Hughes go through such hard times of late but then those are the breaks of the professional fight game.

Ricky Hughes comes into this fight on a three fight slump and having won only once in his last six. It’s in stark contrast to the reign of terror Hughes waged upon the division in it’s earliest stages and one must wonder if Hughes has it in him to turn things around. With the former champions latest loss, he dropped out of the Top 15 of the rankings and into his all time lowest position in the IFC. Though the hype has died down, his loyal fans still remain and still believe that Hughes can return to the glory days of the past.

Both fighters are fairly even in the skills department with Hughes edging ever so slightly in the stand up. He will also enjoy a decent weight advantage of around 60lbs on the night which could definitely play a part in the outcome of this fight. Both fighters like to mix it up with their strikes but lately Thrower has been the more accurate. It’s doubtful that Hughes has lost his KO power so it’s just a matter of landing the shots that he does throw and that has been his biggest problem of late.

Hughes might be considered the ever so slightly betting favorite but Thrower has been in terrific form of late and it might be hard to bet against him.

Fight 7 – Iron Man Division

Ispa Murhaa (3-0, 192lbs) vs. Joe “The Alternate” Average (1-3, 210lbs)

The last fight of our main card features a very highly regarded prospect Ispa Murhaa taking on youngster Joe Average.

Though still early in his career, Ispa Murhaa is starting to draw the attention of potential opponents around him due to his young age and quick progress. Still only nineteen, Murhaa has so far made all of his opponents look very much second best with a tight, pummeling clinch game and so far no one has really been able to figure out. His last fight was a three round shut out against experienced IFC veteran James Gregor who was barely able to land anything but a few glancing blows.

Attempting to give the Finn more of a challenge is young Joe Average who hasn’t had the easiest of starts to a career facing some very tough opponents and tonight is no different.

So far Average has been finished on three separate occasions and will need to pull off something special tonight if he is to turn his fortunes around. Murhaa will have a decent advantage on the feet and as already mentioned has a clinch game to be feared. During Average’s best performance against Jerome Steel he too displayed some very effective close quarter fighting so it will be interesting to see whether Average can and will want to test himself in that area. On the floor Average could have an advantage with his purple belt level BJJ against Murhaa’s Blue but Murhaa has some wonderful wrestling skills which could cancel out any ideas Average has there.

Murhaa goes into this fight as the heavy favorite but Average has absolutely nothing to lose and will be looking for any opportunity to spoil the party

Undercard

Fight 6 – Iron Man Division

Andy Bogard (5-5-1, 150lbs) vs. Jan Schrijber (3-2, 237lbs)

It’s been a little while since we’ve seen Jan Schrijber in the IFC cage since his first round submission loss to Mr Kaalee back at IFC XXIV and it will be interesting to see what changes he will make coming into this fight with long time IFC veteran Andy Bogard.

Bogard is currently on something on a downward trajectory and has found himself on a terrible run of three TKO losses in a row. At one time Bogard looked to be making some big improvements in his stand up but lately has seemed to stagnate somewhat and is in danger of getting lost at the bottom end of the roster.

Style wise Schrijber is more advanced on the feet but does prefer fighting in the clinch where he will have to be careful not to allow Bogard to pull guard where he will have a massive advantage with his submission skills. Bogard isn’t a novice on the feet and has beaten better strikers in the past but somewhere along the way he perhaps lost confidence in himself and has become quite stoppage prone.

Neither fighter will want to drop another loss but none more so than Bogard who at one time was beginning to show a decent amount of potential.

Look for Schrijber to keep this fight in the clinch and grind down Bogard with knees and in turn look for Bogard to attempt to get the fight to the floor anyway he can.

Fight 5 – Iron Man Division

“Dangerous” Milo Yiannopoulos (2-2, 215lbs) vs. Chong “The Star Fish” Tay (6-5, 210lbs)

In his IFC debut, “Dangerous” Milo Yiannopoulos faced prospect Urban Go Bucks and made quite a first impression with a first round TKO victory. Now, with a record of 2-2, Yiannopoulos will take on experienced slugger Chong “The Star Fish” Tay who is coming into the fight off the back of a KO win himself against journeyman Gin Kobra.

Chong Tay will be making his twelth professional appearance in the cage tonight and so will have a lot more experience to draw upon than his opponent Yiannopoulos. Tay has been very inconsistent over the course of that time however and his wild brawling style has either yielded spectacular results or left him vulnerable to quicker counter fighters.

On paper both fighters are similar in the striking department but on the grappling side of things Yiannopoulos will have a fair advantage. Tay has proven quite durable and Yiannopoulos could find the pay off to going that route too risky and too time consuming and may look to exploit Tay’s lack of wrestling or jiu-jitsu instead.

Both fighters are still only twenty and a win here for either of them would do much to helping them climb out from among the bottom of the roster.

Fight 4 – Iron Man Division

Yoshihiro Sexyama (2-3, 190lbs) vs. Albert Van Rooy (1-2, 256lbs)

Making his sixth appearance for the IFC is Japanese submission wrestler Yoshihiro Sexyama who will be looking to turn around a two fight losing streak here tonight. In order to do so he will need to take out young Dutch kickboxer Albert Van Rooy who is back after a superb forty-nine second first round KO of up and comer Kirk Lazarus.

Sexyama has a big advantage in the grappling and is some several years older than Van Rooy. Should the fight hit the floor the result would be a mere formality but Van Rooy will have close to seventy pounds in weight on Sexyama which could help keep him on his feet long enough to get the KO.

Fight 3 – Iron Man Division

Boyd “The Vanilla Og” Clark (4-8, 170lbs) vs. Gin Kobra (4-8, 140lbs)

Next up a very interesting fight between two fighters currently mixing it up near the bottom of the roster.

Boyd Clark has had some better results over the last couple of months but still comes into this fight off the back of a loss to Rober Garfield. He has been slowly improving his Muay Thai skills and is currently looking more competent than we’ve ever seen him before but now he needs to start getting the results to match.

His opponent is experienced journeyman Gin Kobra who’s current form doesn’t quite tell the whole story. In his last four fights, Kobra has dropped two decision losses to tough fighters, lost to Battle Ram by third round KO in a fight that he was ahead in up until the very last and lastly a first round KO to Chong Tay in yet another fight that was one way traffic until the KO. With four KO’s out of eight losses, Kobra’s chin may well be suffering from the effects of the larger fighters he has faced.

Tonight's bout is expected to be a close one with both fighters evenly matched in all but weight where Clark will have a relatively mild thirty pound weight advantage. Kobra may be the more durable of the two fighters but neither are particularly known for their granite chins and so a knockout could definitely be on the cards. If the fight does go the distance the betting man would probably favor Kobra.

Prelims

Fight 2 – Iron Man Division

Sascha “Widow Maker” Koniezko (1-5, 185lbs) vs. Brett “The Bull” Bersten (5-5 175lbs)

In his last fight, Sascha Koniezko was able to pick up his very first win after a dreadful run of five losses including his IFC debut to Tyrano Jackson. Now, with a record of 1-5, Koniezko can perhaps begin the arduous climb out of the bottom of the IFC ranks and build upon his first victory

Facing him tonight is experienced jack of all trades Brett “The Bull” Bersten who was unsuccessful in his IFC debut last time out. Bersten has a even record of 5-5 and has been involved in a good few orgs in his young career. Currently on streak of two losses Bersten looks to have taken them to heart and doesn’t seem to be training for this fight nor seem to care either with those close to him telling us that his confidence is shot.

If Bersten’s current state is to be confirmed then look for Koniezko to take advantage and end the fight with a finish.

Fight 1 – New Blood Division

Facundo Galley (0-1, 170lbs) vs. Angel “Sith” Raider (2-2, 235lbs)

Our opening bout of the evening features New Blood Tournament V.2 alternate Facundo Galley looking to gain more experience in case he is called up and he will be facing a struggling Angel “Sith” Raider who has had a tough time in his last two fights having found himself finished by both submission and TKO.

Galley will want the fight on his feet where he can utilize his only real weapon in the fight which is his Muay Thai and Raider will want to capitalist on Galley’s lack of grappling skills and get himself back on the winning path.

Iron Man Fight Club – Mid Week 12

(27th December 2017 – Hard Knocks, Los Angeles)

Post Fight Recap

A lot of sore heads there will be come the morning with seven of the evenings bouts ending by KO or TKO. Let’s get into what went down…

Main Event

Wilson “KO” Reyes vs. Vincent Lemieux

It was a big main event between two high ranking fighters but tonight it was Vincent Lemieux who keept his fantastic win streak alive which now stands at nine in a row.

These two huge fighters went straight at each other at the start of round one but it Lemieux who draw first blood with a nice left hook, uppercut combination that opened up Reyes.

There wasn’t much in the way of volume but what landed hurt and only thirty seconds in Reyes found himself clobbered with a big right hand that sent him down to the canvas momentarily which further aggravated his cut. Reyes quickly got back to his feet and the fight moved into the clinch. Reyes fought back but was unable to land any of the knees to the body or short punches and at this point Lemiuex really started to take control. Working over the body to soften him up, Lemieux began landing short punches to the head inside the clinch that completely busted Reyes open and around the one minute thirty second mark Reyes’ face was a mask of crimson and the referee called the doctor into the cage to investigate. Deeming the damage done too severe to continue the doctor called the fight and Lemieux picked up his latest in an impressive row of first round KO victories.

Vincent Lemieux defeated Wilson Reyes by TKO (Cut) at 1:39 of Round 1

It was Reyes’ first loss in three fights and an end to an impressive start in the IFC. Reyes still remains in the Top 10 but drops a spot down to #8.

Another win for Lemieux who improves his record to 9-4 overall and is currently looking like a man that will be very difficult to stop. With this win Lemiuex moves up in the rankings to #5

Co-Main Event

Steven “The Steamroller” Kennedy vs. Terry Bogard

It was another fight with implications at the top of the rankings with former champion Steven Kennedy desperately trying to stay relevant and young kickboxer Terry Bogard trying to break into the Top 10. On this occasion experience won through and Kennedy picked up eighth career win and bounced back from his previous bludgeoning at the hands of Wilson Reyes.

Kennedy wisely wasted no time in taking the fight to the floor and avoiding any engagement with the dangerous striking skills from Bogard. Kennedy took his time to control the position and stop Bogards attempts to get back to his feet and slowly but surely secured the kimura from half guard and forced Bogard to tap.

Steven Kennedy defeated Terry Bogard by Submission (Kimura) at 2:59 of Round 1

Kennedy’s record on paper has been a little inconsistent of late but combined with his unarguable popularity and fan base moves back into the Top 10 at #10.

A tough loss for Terry Bogard who drops to 5-3 overall and out of the Top 15. It was his second submission loss in four fights and perhaps will give Bogard some indication of where he needs to improve moving forward.

Other fights from the evening.

It was a big night for young Bricks Thrower as his recent run of good form brought him the opportunity to face former champion Ricky “Big Tex” Hughes who had in turn been experiencing the worst run of form in his career. On this occasion Hughes reminded us of what made him so formidable before when he landed a brutal combination of punches beginning with a huge uppercut that ended the bout only twenty-nine seconds into round 1

Ricky Hughes defeated Bricks Thrower by TKO (Strikes) at 0:29 of Round 1

Ispa Murhaa improved to 4-0 overall with a solid nights work to defeat Joe Average in the first round by TKO

Jan Schrijber put on a superb display of Muay Thai this evening as he completely overwhelmed a struggling Andy Bogard to win by TKO in Round 1. Schrijber improves to 4-2 whilst Bogard drops to his fourth loss in a row and an overall record of 5-6-1

Marking his second appearance in the IFC, Milo Yiannopoulos made short work of brawler Chong Tay winning by KO at 1:08 of Round 1. It was his second win in the IFC making him two for two so far with an overal record of 3-2. For Chong Tay the loss kept consistent with his inconsistency and now the Australian striker moves to 6-6 overall.

Gin Kobra’s grit and determination finally paid off as he won a three round decision against Boyd Clark here tonight but it wasn’t without hardship as the 140lber found himself knocked down near the end of the first round and had to dig deep to hang on until the bell.

Sascha Koniezko picked up his second win in two fights here in the IFC bringing his record to 2-5 overall. He beat a struggling Brett Bersten who drops to his third loss in a row and 5-6 overall.

And lastly upcoming New Blood tournament alternate Facundo Galley picked up some extra experience and his first win after a tough debut loss against Boss Yonic. He beat Angel Raider over three rounds and showed some very slippery escapes during the fight as Raider was unable to keep Galley down after successful take downs.

Iron Man Fight Club XXXI Preview

(30th December 2017 - King Theatre, Los Angeles)

Main Card

Main Event – Iron Man Division – Championship Fight

(Champion) Mew Choo (10-0, 191lbs) vs. (#1) Brooklyn Brawler (8-2, 190lbs)

In the main event of the evening the Iron Man Championship belt is on the line once more with undefeated, undisputed, champion Mew Choo making his sixth title defense against number one contender Brooklyn Brawler.

Champion Mew Choo makes his return to the IFC cage after punishing challenger “Big” Steve Butabi for making the costly mistake of taking the fight to the floor. During that fight both fighters landed big shots early and both ending up with cuts but then Butabi inexplicably countered a missed combination from Choo with a take down and from there it took the champion only a couple of minutes to put the challenger to the sword and end the fight by first round submission. It was his tenth finish in ten fights and so far no opponent has managed to make it past three rounds with him.

But could that all change tonight?

Though it could be argued that the Brooklyn Brawler’s record doesn’t warrant a title shot right now, the current state of the division means it does.

With Mew Choo having cleaned out the top five in the division and Brawler having a recent win over then #1 Don Joe, the Brawler was the natural next in line for a shot at the title and make no mistake about it, he has worked hard to get where he is and is more than deserving.

At IFC XXI, the Brooklyn Brawler lost the opportunity to challenge for the belt when he was stopped by Steve Butabi in the second round of their title eliminator bout. It was a disappointing blip in Brawlers career but none the less he got back up, dusted himself off and battled his way back to impressive wins over the IFC’s first champion Ricky Hughes and gave dangerous slugger Taz Bandichoo a taste of his own medicine by knocking him out in the second round. Now with a record of 8-2 the Brawler looks to do what many have attempted but so far failed.

Like many fighters before him Brooklyn Brawler has an impressive record of finishes and comes from a solid camp but by no means is he the most frightening opponent that Choo has faced so just why would anyone believe he can win?

The answer could be in the clinch.

Brawler has a terrific clinch game that he has used to work over many of his opponents so far and Choo has yet to face someone who will attempt to tie him up and pummel him on the inside. So far Choo has demonstrated proven striking skills and a very effective submission game but we have yet to see what he is capable of in that department.

With Choo’s history of winning we really have no choice but consider him the favorite going into this fight and by this point we can no longer consider it luck that the champion has remained undefeated so long. Of course with each and every win the pressure grows and grows and at some point the bubble must burst but that is what makes the fight game so exciting.

Does the Brawler possess the key to unlocking the puzzle that is Mew Choo or will he be just another name added to the list of failed challengers?

The time has come to find out.

Co-Main Event – Iron Man Division

(#4) Louis CK (9-1, 202lbs) vs. (Top15) Taz “Crash” Bandichoo (6-5, 240lbs)

Our co-main event of the evening is a fight that has knockout written all over it.

Current #4 Louis CK makes his long awaited return to the cage since giving champion Mew Choo his toughest fight to date before suffering a third round KO. Previous to that CK had been on a whirlwind undefeated run of nine wins with the majority of them coming by first round KO. Now in his return he will be eager to put his past title challenge behind him and get back to winning way beginning with the wild man Taz “Crash” Bandichoo.

Taz Bandichoo bullied his way into the #2 spot off the back of a spate of brutal first round victories that forced everyone to sit up and take notice. Prior to that run, Bandichoo had spent his time languishing around the lower end of the roster and was largely ignored. Now, having dropped his last two his stock has dropped somewhat and he finds himself just outside of the top 10.

CK will go into the fight as the favorite as Bandichoo’s carefree brawling style is not likely to trouble someone with CK’s striking caliber. Of course Bandichoo will always have a punchers chance but really he will need to refine his attack if he is to get CK’s attention.

CK will hold the advantage in the grappling which is something Bandichoo has yet to show any interest in. It’s not known how much of CK’s skills in that department leans towards the offensive but he does have a single submission win on his resume and should he decide the safer option is to make the fight a ground fight then Bandichoo would find himself a fish out of water.

A big fight for CK who will no doubt be frustrated at losing his undefeated record in his last fight and will looking for revenge. For a 6-5 Bandichoo this is a must win fight if he has any interesting in staying at the top end of the IFC roster.

Fight 8 – Iron Man Division

Jaxson Wilder (6-2, 205lbs) vs. Japa Koniu (4-1, 235lbs)

Next up the puzzle that is Jaxson Wilder taking on boxer Japa Koniu who has so far flown under the radar since making his IFC debut last time out.

Jaxson Wilder looks to be a very solid prospect and seems to have many tools at his disposal but as yet has only shown interest in one. A BJJ brown belt with all six of his wins so far coming by way of knockout and so far no attempts at taking even the biggest strikers down to the ground. With this in mind we are forced to wonder; does Wilder actually have ground skills or does he just enjoy hitting people that much? With a record of knockouts like his however who are we to question?

His opponent Japa Koniu had a successful debut at IFC Mid Week 11 managing to withtand Donold Trenchard’s ground assault and get the TKO finish just before the third minute of round one. Koniu’s record now stands at 4-1 and like his opponent has a perfect 100% record for KO finishes.

Both fighters are wonderful boxers but Koniu may edge the stand up due to his respectable level of Muay Thai, an art that Wilder hasn’t seen fit to entertain so far. Koniu has found his best success coming from his heavy, laser accurate punches and Wilder may need to rely on his granite chin if he insists on standing and trading with Koniu. On the ground Wilder would seem to have an extremely large advantage on paper at least and perhaps we may finally get to see an attempt at bringing the fight to the floor?

Fight 7 – Iron Man Division

Dave “Tightass” Brooksbank (6-7, 160lbs) vs. Gosha Lopez (3-0, 135lbs)

Dave “Tightass” Brooksbank has had some truly mixed results during his time here in the IFC and remains as inconsistent as ever. Currently on a two fight losing streak consisting of back to back first round knockouts he will find his hands full with up and coming youngster Gosha Lopez in his return fight

Gosha Lopez will be making his third appearance in the IFC cage tonight and is coming into this fight off the back off a superb victory over young all rounder Soul Shadow.

Lopez will have many options in this fight whereas Brooksbank really only has one. It’s possible Lopez will want to test himself against a grappler of Brooksbank’s caliber but the smarter path would be in his higher level stand up skills. Brooksbank has a small amount of skill on his feet and a mediocre level of wrestling but none of that will really stand up against what Lopez is bringing and really his only chance for victory is to force the takedown somehow.

A win over Brooksbank would definitely garner a lot of attention for Lopez who looks to be one of only a handful of natural flyweights with enough potential to make it to the top of the IFC ranks. As for what Dave Brooksbank Gosha Lopez will be facing tonight we will have to wait until the bell rings to see. If it the same Brooksbank who defeated Cattan Engoria and Terry Bogard then this fight would definitely be interesting. Otherwise expect Lopez to get the KO by round two.

Undercard

Fight 6 – Iron Man Division

Donold “Home Wrecker” Trenchard (4-6, 155lbs) vs. Boss Yonic (7-5-1, 185lbs)

For grappling purists this is the fight you will be wanting to see tonight.

BJJ brown belt Donold “Home Wrecker” Trenchard takes on long time IFC favorite Boss Yonic who will be making his twelfth appearance here.

In his debut last time out, Donold Trenchard was looking good early on against fellow new coming Japa Koniu before suffering a TKO finish just after minute two of the first round. With the bulk of his fights from within the QFC Trenchard may need time to adapt to the more consistent level of competition and tonight will get to take on a real veteran of the Iron Man Fight Club

Boss Yonic made his Iron Man debut all the way back at IFC II and with his rock of a head quickly raced ahead to a three fight streak. Since that time he has had some up’s and down but has always proven to be exceptionally tough to take out having never suffered a knockout finish in all his thirteen bouts. In his last appearance he gave newcomer Facundo Galley a lesson in submission wrestling allowing the Muay Thai specialist not a moment to breath before taking him down and eventually securing the arm bar finish.

Yonic will have the slight edge in experience going into this fight and will also carry a moderate weight advantage of around thirty pounds.

Neither fighter has shown much interest in the stand up side of MMA and instead have chosen to dedicate themselves purely to the grappling aspect.

Yonic the better wrestler, Trenchard with the higher level Jiu-Jitsu. Both have good takedowns and both have four submissions victories apiece.

Yonic will have to be careful if he does manage to get the takedown and end up in Trenchard’s guard has he shown some vulnerability from that position against high level submission fighters.

Yonic might feel that he has more to lose going into this fight being slightly higher ranked than Trenchard.

Fight 5 – Iron Man Division

“Dark and Light” Soul Shadow (3-3, 170lbs) vs. Kyle “Animal” Ryan (2-2, 223lbs)

Kyle “Animal” Ryan makes his first appearance in the Iron Man division after moving up from the New Blood where he went an even 2-2. For his debut in this new division he has called out “Dark and Light” Soul Shadow who instantly accepted the challenge. With the knowledge of this challenge adding a little extra spice to the proceedings we now get to watch the fireworks explode and see who will come out on top.

Soul Shadow is quite clearly still a work in progress. Like a statue carved out of marble, Shadow’s true form is revealed to us a little more with each passing fight. Still only eighteen years old, Shadow has been training since he was sixteen and by now has become proficient in most skills available to him. Since joining the IFC he has managed a 3-2 record and holds a 3-3 record overall. In his last fight he matched up with exciting young submission wrestler Gosha Lopez and despite having a good first round ended up caught in a guillotine midway through round two. You get the impression however that none of these results matter right now and that for Shadow they are just simple opportunities to gain experience and grow into the fighter he looks to become but with an “Animal” in front of him who called out him by name, perhaps we will see a different Shadow tonight?

Kyle Ryan made his MMA debut in the opening round of the first IFC New Blood Tournament and lost a close three round decision to eventual winner Fay Gott. At the time Ryan was considered to be one of the favorites to win the whole event and it’s fair to say that he hasn’t quite lived up to the hype since that time. His last fight, a first round submission over Long Thai, was his best performance so far and now in a fresh new division perhaps Ryan will come into his own

Both fighters are fairly even with Ryan being slightly larger as a natural light-heavyweight and currently a little more advanced with his boxing. Shadow has a slight edge in the wrestling and muay thai which could indicate that Shadow will want this fight on the ground but overall both fighters like to adapt to their opponents and are proven tacticians.

Being Ryan’s first fight in the Iron Man division he will no doubt be extra keen to get off to a good start and as he made the call out he must believe he can do so at the expense of Shadow.

This fight is sure to have the attention of the IFC fans and I can’t wait to see who will win

Fight 4 – Iron Man Division

Curtis “Showtime” Page (0-3, 160lbs) vs. Leonel Ventura (2-0, 265lbs)

Leonel Ventura has had a short successful period of two fights in the IFC so far but tonight makes his last appearance before moving on into the field of KT. To go out with a bang what better opponent than struggling striker Curtis “Showtime” Page?

This fight has stand up war all over it and with nether fighter having anything in the way of Jiu-Jitsu skills it’s unlikely that either will fancy taking their chances in unfamiliar territory.

Page the boxer, Ventura the Muay Thai specialist. Both have at least a respectable understanding of the others art also.

The key to the fight could be in the clinch as Ventura has taken his time to gain a proficient understanding of the grappling art and this will no doubt serve him well going into this fight against a fighter has shown a preference to stand at range.

Fight 3 – Iron Man Division

Matt Griffin (4-7, 197lbs) vs. Blitz “88” Krieg (5-4, 300lbs)

Next up, two struggling fighters go head to head when Matt Griffin takes on three-hundred pound Blitz “88” Krieg.

Matt Griffin has a pretty solid all round skill set but has found himself quite vulnerable when on defense, in fact, all seven of his total losses have been by first round finishes so it seems to be important that he get going quickly and aggressively. Currently 4-7, Griffin comes into the bout of a three fight losing streak and in danger of sinking to the bottom of the IFC roster if he cannot turn things around soon.

His opponent Blitz Krieg makes his return to the cage after very poor showing in his IFC debut. In that fight he managed to make struggling Shigeru Miyamoto look positively world beating as he threw fifty-four wild combinations only and managed to land only one. In his return fight he will need to drastically refine his style if he is to avoid suffering the same fate.

The bookies make Griffin the overwhelming favorite in this fight stating that he only has to avoid getting hit by a crazy combination in order to pick up his first win in a while.

Prelims

Fight 2 – Iron Man Division

Urban “Brutus” Go Bucks (1-1, 255lbs) vs. Shigeru Miyamoto (3-5, 160lbs)

Urban “Brutus” Go Bucks is one of the many young prospects in the IFC just starting to compete professionally. After a very impressive debut at XXIII against James Gregor he ran into fellow newcomer Milo Yiannopoulos in his return fight and this time suffered his first loss by TKO bringing his record to 1-1.

Tonight he’ll face kickboxer Shigeru Miyamoto who is enjoying his first win after three successive losses in a row.

Despite the win, natural featherweight Miyamoto has struggled in his last few fights dropping fights to opponents who were also not in particularly good form nor considered particularly dangerous. He seems to have improved his BJJ and earned his Blue Belt in recent times perhaps in order to give himself some peace of mind should the fight hit the floor.

Go Bucks will have a significant weight advantage in this one and is some thirteen centimeters taller which could make it difficult for Miyamoto to reach his chin.

Miyamoto, though the more experienced of the two, will come into this fight the underdog and will need to be very smart if he is to somehow upset the odds.

Fight 1 – Iron Man Division

Lenny “Fagan Blaster” Manelito (2-9, 185lbs) vs. Pacer “The Turnip” Dalton (0-0, 220lbs)

Out first bout of the evening pits experienced journeyman Lenny “Fagan Blaster” Manelito putting exciting newcomer Pacer “The Turnip” Dalton through his paces when he makes his MMA debut

Lenny Manelito has, on paper, a decent well rounded skill set but has truly struggled in his eleven fight career so far. Having only managed two victories in total and currently on a six fight losing streak, Manelito seems perfectly content to just get in their and mix it up. Of course it is our belief that not everything is about hype or rank and fighters like Manelito are essential in the Iron Man Fight Club and will always have a place to throw down here. We greatly appreciate his efforts.

His opponent is a new signing to the IFC and one that will have the utmost attention paid to him when he makes his debut here.

Pacer Dalton has yet to be tested inside the cage but has been preparing for this date for a while. With a sensational wrestling pedigree behind him and backed up with a blue belt in BJJ, we cannot wait to see what this young man is capable of.

In terms of match up Manelito will have the run of the roost in the stand up with Dalton having chosen to invest his time elsewhere. Any exchanges on the feet are not likely to go Dalton’s way but for sure Dalton will be aware of that. Instead he will look to use his advanced wrestling skills to overwhelm Manelito early and pick up his first professional win from the floor.

A tough fight for Manelito but not without it’s dangers for Dalton either.

Iron Man Fight Club New Year Bash - Preview

(31st December 2017 – Hyashi’s Lounge, Los Angeles)

Main Card

Main Event – Iron Man Division

Thor “New Viking Era” Magnunsen (12-3, 290lbs) vs. (#9) Brock “The Bodyguard” Sampson (5-1, 170lbs)

Making his first appearance on mainland soil after a superb campaign on the island is Thor “New Viking Era” Magnunsen and he will be taking on a brave up and coming Brock “The Bodyguard” Sampson.

During his time on the island Thor Magnunsen managed to capture not one but two titles in the Chaos FC org, with those being in the heavyweight and super-heavyweight category. Now, making his way to the IFC with a very reputable record of 12-3, we look to see if Magnunsen can find that same success here

When Magnunsen was signed this org scoured the roster for a suitable and available opponent. When Brock “The Bodyguard” Sampson got the call his management didn’t hesitate even knowing the risks that come with taking a fight with such a highly rated opponent.

Sampson will be making his seventh appearance in the IFC cage and has already had some good early success having been able to battle his way into the top 10 in a relatively short amount of time. With a record of 5-1 and currently on a winning streak of three Sampson faces what is no doubt his biggest challenge to date.

Going into this fight the experience is clearly with Magnunsen who will be bringing over twice the amount of fight time of Sampson.

Sampson has some decent stand up but it would be a lot to ask of him to go head to head against Mugnunsen’s crushing clinch game from which all twelve of his victories have come or at least played a huge part in. The vast majority of them have come in the first round also. Instead Sampson must look to take Mugnunsen off of his feet and put him on his back where Sampson will be able to pressure him with strikes and perhaps look to finish with a submission. This wont be an easy task however as Mugnunsen has proven to be very difficult to take down in previous fights.

Mugnunsen has been defeated before however and this will give Sampson some confidence but make no mistake, this is a very tough fight for the number #9 ranked fighter and one that he will most definitely be the underdog in.

Co-Main Event – Iron Man Division

(#7) Iain “The CN” Tower (6-0, 275lbs) vs. (Top15) Evgeni Lomachenko (7-5, 152lbs)

The co-main event of the evening features rising star Iain “The CN” Tower taking on scrappy Russian submission specialist Evgeni Lomachenko.

Undefeated youngster Iain Tower is still yet to be truly tested even after six fights in the IFC. His last bout against former Gamasi Fight Org super-heavyweight champion Mr Kaalee was expected to finally be the competitive test desperately needed to gauge Tower's true potential but the end result was another first round win for Tower who once again made things look easy. Now Tower is ranked #7 in the org and we are still no closer to figuring out just what it will take to stop him.

His opponent Evegeni Lomachenko comes into this fight with all the confidence that beating a former IFC champion in Ricky Hughes can bring. There he managed to survive an early knockout from the heavy handed Hughes, lived to tell the tale and in the end get the first round submission win in under two minutes. It was exactly the kind of performance that has boosted Lomachenko back into the Top 15 and the kind of performance that could possible be enough to surprise Tower tonight.

It would be imperative for Lomachenko to get the takedown early in this fight for as long as the fight stays standing it would be like shooting fish in a barrel for Tower. Lomachenko possess a very good shot which should be enough to get the fight where he needs and as Tower has the utmost confidence in his ground fighting ability himself is usually content to save the energy in resisting and allow the takedown but perhaps for this fight Lomachenko’s credentials are enough for him to abandon that tactic.

This is a massive challenge for Lomachenko who will need to be performing at his very highest level tonight and will really need everything to go his way if he is to be triumphant over Iain Tower who remains a truly frightening prospect in the Iron Man division right now.

Fight 8 – New Blood Division – Championship Fight

(New Blood Champion) “The Bully” Fay Gott (4-1, 190lbs) vs. (Challenger) Kenny “The Follower” Tchusuk (2-3, 265lbs)

Next up we have the New Blood title on the line and no matter the result “The Bully” Fay Gott will be defending it for the first and last time.

Fay Gott had an incredible tournament run in order to become the first New Blood champion beating some very tough opponents on the way. Starting with one of the early favorites Kyle Ryan in the first round and then “The Hunk” Jack Dawson, who had previous wins from the Iron Man division, in the second round. Following that, an absolute massacre of natural bantamweight Xing Pugberg to cement his place in the championship slot and then finally defeating unfancied sensation Micky Kirby by first round TKO to capture the belt. Now, having turned twenty years old and matured beyond the confines of the New Blood division, Fay Gott will make his one and only defense before moving on up to the Iron Man division. His opponent, it’s fair to say, was not who was to be expected.

Kenny “The Follower” Tchusuk tonight finds himself competing for the title and only a short while ago that would have been a laughable notion. Crashing out of the New Blood tournament in the first round to finalist Micky Kirby, Tchusuk that went on to lose his following two fights to further eliminated fighters and was finished in all of them. Tchusuk, obviously not willing to be the divisions punching bag, gradually improved his stand up and was able to turn things around against Ivashin Dmitrievich at Mid Week 9 managing to pick up his first win. With a record of 1-3 he was to face Alambick Rana, a 5-0 monster who had not needed longer than one round in order to defeat his opponents in a fight that was widely regarded as a mere warm up for Rana before challenging for the New Blood title. In one of the biggest upsets seen in Iron Man history, Tchusuk Ko’d Rana in just nine seconds and now, off the back of that shock result, finds himself challenging for the title.

Tchusuk has improved massively over the past few months and enough to make this fight compelling. Both fighters are fairly even in the stand up and with Tchusuk’s massive weight advantage might even be favored in any exchanges at this point though he has suffered two KO losses already. Gott’s biggest strength is in his clinch and that’s something we’ve not really seen from Tchusuk at any point but either way it unlikely that he would want or be able to go toe to toe with Gott in that area.

On the floor Tchusuk’s BJJ purple belt will trump Gott’s blue but Gott has a much better level of wrestling which could cancel out any advantage there.

Despite Tchusuks improvements to reach this point “The Bully” is still expected to get the job done and get that all important solitary defense under his belt before moving up among the bigger boys of the Iron Man Fight Club.

Fight 7 – New Blood Division

“The Hunk” Jack Dawson (4-2, 270lbs) vs. Patrick Thompson (1-1, 270lbs)

Also making his final appearance in the New Blood Division tonight is the charismatic Jack “The Hunk” Dawson and he’ll be taking on young striker Patrick Thompson.

Dawson didn’t start his career as a New Blood contender instead starting off in the main division where he picked up two quick TKO wins the first of which by brutal knee finish and earning the self titled moniker of “next knee legend”

At that point Dawson was still young enough for eligibility into the first New Blood tournament and decided to drop down a division for a chance at New Blood glory. As an already blooded contender within the IFC, Dawson was naturally considered one of the favorites going in which was only confirmed further when he defeated a tough Oliver Kohler by first round TKO in the tournaments opening round. In the second round Dawson found himself matched against eventual winner Fay Gott and despite a valiant effort came out second best over three rounds and was knocked out of the tournament. Since that time Dawson has gone a further 1-1 against tough competition and will now look to go out with a bang before moving back into the Iron Man division.

His opponent Patrick Thompson is still very much in the infancy of his career and still looking to pick up experience wherever he can. Thompson lost his New Blood debut by a disappointing tko cut stoppage against Adam Tuncer and shifted back to the main division to rebound with a hard fought decision win over newcomer Loa Kobula. Now, moving back down to the NB division once more to see off Jack Dawson he'll want to see how well he stacks up against "The Hunk"

Obviously Dawson will have an edge in the experience going into this fight as well as the benefit of a little extra training time but Thompson has been developing well and in terms of pure striking skills might feel he is the better fighter. Dawson's effective clinch game will be a very big factor in this fight which Thompson will most likely look to avoid at all costs in favor of staying out of range and winning the war of attrition

As already been said, with Dawson moving up he will definitely want to do so with a big win behind him so look for that to be a big motivator in this fight and expect a big performance from Jack Dawson

Undercard

Fight 6 – New Blood Division

Juanon Brephgrad (3-1, 210lbs) vs. “King” Maximilian Kirby (2-0, 165lbs)

Juanon Brephgrad is a young fighter who looks to be developing very well and at his young age and with his good early record behind him could be considered a potential challenger for the New Blood title.

Having already gained experience in no less than two other orgs already, Brephgrad came to the IFC as a young fighter with experience that many his age do not. He had a tough debut against a very game Pate Paukuttaja but displayed a very mature well rounded skill set and eventually caught Paukuttaja with a big KO nine seconds into round three. Now, in his second IFC appearance he faces a very big test against “King” Maximillian Kirby who’s teammate includes New Blood Tournament finalist Micky Kirby

Maximillian Kirby joined the New Blood division rather late and after making a big entrance in his debut beating Joe Average by TKO, Kirby will return for the second and final time before choosing a new path after turning twenty years old.

Kirby’s small amount of striking skill pales in comparison to Brephgrad’s high level Muay Thai but if we are to draw comparisons to his team mate Micky Kirby we can conclude that any ideas of throwing down on the feet is not on the agenda. Unless Brephgrad is able to catch Kirby coming in and end the fight there, Brephgrad’s grappling ability will be tested here. He will need composure and some very good defensive capabilities of which we did partially get to see in his last fight against Paukuttaja because Kirby is a master of ground and pound.

A big fight for Brephgrad who with a win over “King” Maximillian would definitely establish himself as a potential #1 contender for the New Blood title but will also need a massive performance to keep Kirby at bay.

Fight 5 – New Blood Division

Jerome “Hands of” Steel (2-2, 279lbs) vs. Anton Touchard (4-0, 168lbs)

Following the trend of departing New Blood fighters, Jerome “Hands of” Steel makes quite possibly his last appearance in this division before moving on and he’ll face undefeated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt Anton Touchard.

Jerome Steel arrived at the IFC slightly older than is usual after a short period with the Gamasi Fight org where he managed to go an even 1-1. As a result Steel only had a limited time to launch himself into title contention and an unsuccessful debut against Joe Average really set him back. He rebounded with a first round KO victory in his last outing but despite that impressive result has found himself out of time to put together a title challenge.

Putting his unbeaten record on the line tonight is up and coming Anton Touchard who has managed just fine relying on his jiu-jitsu skills alone.

Touchard gained most of his wins in the QFC where he raced ahead to a 3-0 record then in his IFC debut he made short work of striker Callum Kane managing to pick up his second submission win in a row.

Another classic striker versus grappler contest, Touchard must get this fight to the floor as quickly as possible otherwise he will surely face the same fate as his team mate Alfred Touchard before him. Touchard does posses some feeble wrestling skills that will bolster his chances of taking the big 280lb Steel down as that is one area of Steel’s game that is lacking. On the feet Steel will have a field day with any exchanges that do take place and will no doubt be looking to land that one big punch to end Touchard’s impressive win streak.

Fight 4 – New Blood Division

“I Weigh” One Fortytwo (2-2, 142lbs) vs. Pate Paukuttaja (1-1, 178lbs)

“I Weigh” One Fortytwo has found himself riding the waves of some good form lately having won his previous two with impressive first round knockouts. That they were against opponents that outweighed him by over fifty pounds each leads us to believe that this natural bantamweight striker has some serious firepower in those hands of his. Things didn’t start of brilliantly for Fortytwo however as he was unceremoniously dumped out of the first new blood tournament in the first round by first round TKO against Jonathan Davis and then suffering yet another TKO loss against Ivan Dmitrivich. But now, with somewhat of a reversal of fortune, Fortytwo has moved into the vicinity of the top 10 of the New Blood division and is still young enough to possibly make a title challenge.

Facing him tonight is Finnish grappler Pate Paukuttaja who has had some mixed results during his short time here in the IFC. Paukuttaja got off to a good start initially dominating Gusto Silva in a decision victory and then giving Juanon Brephgrad a tough time before getting caught by a monster KO in the early third round. Now, with a record of 1-1, there is some doubt as to whether Paukuttaja will be an Iron Man fighter for much longer as his management have been stalling on a contract renewal. If this is to be Paukuttaja’s last fight he will no doubt be looking for a big performance here tonight in order to bulk up his bargaining power elsewhere.

This fight will be another grappler versus striker match up with Fortytwo needing more of the same in order to take Paukuttaja out. Paukuttaja will be the heavier fighter but not by an obscene amount

Fight 3 – Iron Man Division

Chara Zaad (6-6, 210lbs) vs. German Cordova (1-4, 150lbs)

Next up, two high level boxers go head to head in order to see just who is the better practitioner of the sweet science.

Chara Zaad continues to be somewhat erratic in his fight results and comes into this fight off of a submission loss to Tyrano Jackson at IFC XXIX. It was a fight where Zaad never really got going have found himself taken to the ground almost instantly. Zaad has an even record of 6-6 and finds himself fighting among the bottom end of the roster currently.

His opponent German Cordova has managed only one win in five professional fights and is currently on a three fight losing streak. He has faced a long list of tough opponents that go some way to explaining his poor record but regardless Cordova has not performed to his potential so far.

On paper Cordova has the slightest edge in the stand and an even bigger one in the grappling although wrestling and jiu-jitsu are not expected to feature in this one. Zaad has double the experience of Cordova however and a decent record of finishes when he is able to fight to his strengths which in this fight he most definitely will get that chance.

Prelims

Fight 2 – New Blood Division

Alfred Touchard (4-1, 220lbs) vs. Hennig Muller (0-2, 184lbs)

Alfred Touchard makes his return to the cage after an unsuccessful IFC debut last time out. There he faced big heavyweight Jerome Steel and suffered his first professional loss taking his record to 4-1.

His opponent Hennig Muller is still searching for his first win after two ko losses in a row and will be hoping for a good performance tonight.

Touchard will have a significant advantage in the grappling department and Hennig will need to figure out a way to remain on his feet otherwise is likely to end up either caught in a submission or underneath some heavy ground and pound.

Fight 1 – New Blood Division

Gusto “Sub” Silva (3-1, 155lbs) vs. Long Thai (0-2, 165lbs)

Gusto “Sub” Silva comes into the bout after getting back to winning ways with last second submission against Angel Raider.

Tonight he'll take on Thai Boxer Long Thai who is still looking to pick up his first win after losing his previous two
