Ok if u you were to make a fighter which would you use kicks and escapes or would use transitions and subs im asking which method of attack is more effective ? and why

It depends on your own fighting style preference، if you are into standup fight then go for Punch/Clinch/StrikeD/Kicks and if you want ground game go for Subs/transition. Both effective if implemented and used correctly, it really depends on you.

All jokes aside, the general rule of thumb:

Standup fighter needs:

Punches/Kicks(ideally both)

Clinchwork

Striking Defense

Takedown Defense

Defensive Grappling

Escapes

Ground fighter needs:

Striking Defense

Clinchwork

Takedowns

Defensive Grappling

Subs/GnP

Transitions

Note that when I say "needs", it means those are the basics which will help your fighter do what he needs to in his discipline. There are many other factors involved in terms of success/game plans.

Don’t need escapes to be a stand up fighter. Guess you weren’t around for the years where escapes were unpowered and lay and pray and ref standups were the only safety for standup fighters.

And I would say a ground fighter should know punches at least as a defence against punches.

I disagree.

If I'm fighting an top level wrestler/grappler, I feel much more comfortable with high Escapes. If he has legit TDs, he might be able to get the fight to the ground early on in the round and stay active without a standup. You will need escapes in this situation. Controlling will not be enough to get the standup if your opponent is aggressive and has tons of energy.
