Just wondering your opinions on Mighty Mouse Demetrius Johnson. As he headlines another non number UFC event due to what I assume is his lack of ppv sales but do you agree?

I get it tbh, yes he's dominant but I don't get excited when his fights are announced not even a little. Tonight for example I'm pumped for each of the main card fights except Mighty Mouse.

Do you think he deserves his perceived "boring" moniker?

I don't believe that Mighty Mouse himself is boring, its just that unfortunate that he is Champion of such a small and non-prestigious division.

I do disagree with the argument of him being the p4p best, as that's just absurd when you compare his resume to that of Jones and DC, among others. He's great, but his accolades would mean so much more if they were earned in a relevant weight-class.

With Jones out of the game, DJ is #1 P4P.

P4P List

#1 DJ

#2 Conor

#3 DC

#4 Stipe

#5 T-Wood

#6 Bisping

#7 Cody G

honestly you can toss all their names in a hat, shake it up, and pull them out for the P4P list. Matter of perspective really. One thing you can say about DJ is that he's faced and fought every single person that climbed up his ladder. not many others can say that right now. I personally love watching the little dude fight, he's been pretty exciting lately.

I'm not a fan of him personally at all, he has zero personality and doesn't sell himself right at all.

He is an amazing fighter and easily one of the P4P best if not the best but he seriously needs to move up to 135, it's a small jump up and in my opinion there is no reason at all to stay at his weight class at all besides a third fight with Benavidez then moving up.

I don't believe he's fighting the best of the best consistently and I don't feel he honestly believes he's the best of he would have called out Cruz for a rematch by now or called for an immediate BW shot to become 2 division World Champion, he's never brought anything like that up.

He can be a big draw, his abilities will shine through to the real mma fans but he needs to step his role up and make a big statement by making a move, he could hang with TJ, Cody or Cruz I believe and give them great fights.

The only Wow! Moment I've had watching DJ is when he beat cejudo. Cejudo had been on a tear and DJ

Demolished him but other than that I don't get his attitude? For want of a better word. He could be bigger than anyone in the world if he learned to sell fights better. All 6 fighters below DJ on that list are box office names, I don't put it down to DJs division but his inability to promote himself and his fights as to why he is considered boring

Won't really argue that, but do you knock somebody down from the p4p list because his lack of personality? Fedor has possibly the least amount of personality of any fighter that's ever existed, he was a robot, and that dude was still #1 for a long time.

DJ should jump up to 135 imo. Tbh I didn't even realize he was a 125er lol.* He should aim to be a 2 div champ.

Edit:

* I knew he was a flyweight but it sometimes goes over my head that it's a 125 lb division. He used to compete at 145.

In my opinion he'd fall about 4th in current p4p standings

1. Jon Jones

2. D.C

3. McGregor

4. Mighty Mouse

Jones has been inactive way too long to be included on that list. DC has won maybe 3 or 4 fights in a row? Would of lost vs Anderson Silva if it'd been a 5 rounder too. He was gassed and hurt at the end of round 3. McGregor is a 2 div champ.

nothing wrong with ranking it that way, minus Jones, he should have an asterisk right now because he's been inactive so long.

Jones will forever have an asterisk due to his actions I believe, which is a shame but it is what it is. Conor is 2 time champ and still denied no.1p4p? The people he's not only fought but put away is a who's who of UFC stars. In this era of the sport Mighty Mouse needs to take the 135 belt to remain anything like relevant for me

I don't disagree with what you're saying when it comes to Jones and DC, but you can't forget Conor also lost to Diaz not too long ago (despite winning the rematch). Either way, p4p is a bit of a silly concept as it mainly comes down to preference as well as what kinds things you rate above others, streaks, level of competition, all sorts.

I enjoy Johnson's fights. He is probably the most well rounded mma fighter in the world. He has the advantage of always having an area of his game where he has an exploitable advantage over his opponent.

Looking back on his career, the one thing he has struggled with is size. The two guys who beat him (pickett, cruz) were larger men whom he fought at BW. The guys who gave him his toughest fights at FW (McCall, Bennavidez) were bigger BW's. If he wants the big money he'll likely need to move up, I dont think its a good idea for his career though.

I think at some point he should move up. He's clearly far and away better than anybody Flyweight right now and nobody really inspires any optimism that they can beat him so a move up could provide a challenge for him and win or lose would be good for his career imo.

I give him really good chance at beating anybody in the division.

I thinks he takes one more fight at fly to take the record for his own. I think he beats anyone except the top 3 at be though

DJ is a beast. Dodson dropped him a few times in their first fight but iirc he tooled him in the rematch.

I think DJ would beat Cruz in a rematch and him vs TJ/Cody would be a good fight. I think his paths to victory wouldn't appeal to a lot of friends and fans but he has the tools to win. DJ being possibly the most well rounded fighter ever has a chance to compete with anybody around his size.

When you're fighting at the highest level of the MMA world, putting together a streak like that is super impressive. You're literally a half a second away from getting chin checked, shin to the face, one second away from getting your arm locked up or getting an arm stuck under your chin... It's easy to dismiss the hype around his opponents but you have to truly respect the people at the top of the game to understand how impressive his streak really is.

Any fighter is only as good as there opponents, your statement is flawed. Just out of curiosity who do you have as second?

His opponents are at the top level of MMA - albeit a little undersized lol. Do you think his opponents are less technical or less physically gifted than the other UFC champions?

Kyoji is one of the best in the division. Easily a top 5 guy. He got absolutely tooled by DJ in all facets of MMA.

Ali's one of the best in the division. Another top 5 guy.

Tim Elliot might be the only guy outside of the top 10 of the division but he was on a 3 fight win streak and DJ cleaned house, so not many guys available.

Wilson Reis is easily a top 10 guy. On the 3 fight win streak he was definitely a top 5 guy in the division.

Henry Cejudo is an olympic wrestler. Not only could he not take DJ down and keep him there, DJ attacked his weakness and exploited him. He was flawless in that fight. One of DJ's most impressive displays of MMA.

Chris Cariaso isn't a slouch.

Benavedez and Dodson? Those two are beast at 135 yet alone 125. If it weren't for DJ those two are champions. Discrediting wins over Dodson or Benivedez are like criticizing Anderson Silva for wins over Rich Franklin, or Cain for multiple wins over JDS... Franklin and JDS were still some of the best fighters in the division. Just ran into the better fighter.

You also have to remember a lot of these guys are now fighting at 125 but most have been fighting at 135 or 145 their entire careers. They've been undersized - still successful. Still at the pillar of the sport.

It's very easy to dismiss his opponents, but they're not old, at the end of their careers, on the bridge of retirement, or on losing streaks receiving title shots (Nick Diaz...) so I never really understand the talk about the quality of his competition. Who in the world in that division is better than these guys? We all wanna see him fight the top guys at 135 (Cruz, TJ, Cody) but that'd be like downing GSP for not fighting Anderson Silva, Franklin, Okami, Bisping, etc... back when GSP was the champ. Or dismissing Jones at the champ cuz he wasn't fighting Cain or JDS.

DJ's a beast. He's not the most charismatic or entertaining, but he's one of the best fighters in MMA by far.
