Heavier fighter on the ground

Everyone has talked about the weight and height advantages in the standup and we know that lighter guys have a speed advantage in the standup, heavier guys should carry more power but will be slower...

But what about on the ground? When it comes to the ground game who has the advantage there?

Assuming the fighters are the same height, have equal ground skill and are both meant for the ground, have transitions, def grapple, subs and GnP: who has the advantage when it comes down to it if one guy is heavier as we see in many weightclasses?

If I am to combine what you two are saying, it looks as though lighter guys are more apt to be submitting/finishing and transitioning on the ground vs heavier opposition, and heavier guys are better at holding on and getting standups either by ref or by the standups skill.

Thanks for your input. Would love to hear any other managers perspectives or any info there might be about this. Proof if any would help too.

I think you guys are right because I remember seeing some top P4P heavier ground fighters with mostly decision wins and also one of my new prospects was controlled by a TD artist for the majority of the fight and rather effortlessly on the ground to a fighter 11 lbs heavier. It kind of makes sense.

I may be a new player so my thoughts may not be accurate but I do have a little experience from being in KD's open weight division with my gnp fighter. He is 185 pounds and has had 3 open weight fights, a 290lb striker, a 162 lb wrestler, and a 160 lb striker. His next opponent is a 300 lb gnp fighter so that would be great to add to this but its a week and a half away. I made a mistake making my fighter slow so it was hard to take down the 290 sprawl/mt but I felt like being lighter helped me do that. Once I had on the ground I had more trouble controlling him than a lighter fighter and he was able to last most of r1 fighting off my gnp (even though none missed) and beat me stand up early round 2. The most interesting of my results came from the smaller wrestler where I won in decision though still having slow takedowns I was able to pull guard 3 times in the fight and 2 of those times I was able to reverse to the top position controlling him and winning the decision with controlling ground and pound. At 1 weight class lower than me I felt like I controlled him on the ground quite well. The last fight being slow I had trouble taking him down though once I actually did he could do nothing but defend off my gnp until I cut him too bad. I missed quite a lot of gnp but I think I got cocky on that and put the damage too high with not enough accuracy since before that fight he was never missing his gnp. So I definitely feel like its easier to control with a bigger stronger guy however I also believe the first thought is also true that heavier guys are easier to get in a sub if they have a good smaller bjj guy.

I don't know.

In my limited experience I think that it takes more energy to get out from underneath (escape), takedown or transition on a heavier opponent. But it is also easier to hit heavier fighters if you're the lighter one on top. Also possibly easier to submit them.

This is certainly not 100 percent correct. Just things I've noticed. (RNG makes things tough!)

lighter fighters frequently win TWGC tournaments, I really don't think weight has much of an impact past X %. I think all height / weight benefits have a hard cap, where as energy consumption is probably based on height/weight ratio (+ cardio obviously) and can be manipulated by reducing your fighter weight, but not beyond the point if anemic for their height.
