Sucker PUnch Pro Series - Records

Just wanted to let everybody know that we're starting to get closer and closer to establish more of the records for the org as we finish up the Sorter Series for each division and get into those 5th and 6th fights for some.

For the records that we are already keeping, we had both finishes set new this week for the Middleweights and the fastest submission was set again for the Heavyweights.

These records will always be posted here: http://www.mmatycoon.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=65096&p=910173

Post Event Cheap Shots

Proving Grounds 5

Hello Sucker Punch fans, Hare Rumpler here along with our analyst, Donkey “Dan” and our media correspondent, Suzy Sucker Punch as we run through a quick review of Proving Grounds 5. This was largely a test card, but with a few good fights that matter for the Sucker Punch divisions thrown in.

This card included 4 opening test fights, along with two Welterweight bouts and one Light Heavyweight contest. There’s no sense delaying, let’s get into it!

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/company/logo/1584375781SWN.jpg

Thanks to our sponsor, Shadow Warrior Nutrition, provider of Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q, their fantastic energy loss reduction supplements! If you want your boys refreshed and working hard every training session with energy to get results, this is the supplement you need! Check them out today!

Now, let's get to it!

We’re going to run through the Undercard bouts all at once, being that they are four sparring sessions and the goal of each is quite straightforward…see what hiddens the fighters have, and see what kind of morale drop the loser takes!

Undercard Sparring Session #1

James Yarbourough Defeats Maximux Vanderlay via Unanimous Decision

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Hare, these two basically stood around and kicked each other in the shins for three minutes! Both Action Jackson kids, he simply wanted to see what they had like you mentioned. Yarborough managed to get the inconsequential win in this one, so instead we look to Vanderlay for the morale drop, which turned out to be about a quarter of his bar. That won’t thrill Action Jackson, but certainly isn’t a complete killer either if he has really good learning speed and a solid hidden. Turns out, both he and Yarborough have solid or good chins, so it will be interesting to see what Action decides with these two kids. My guess…he’s probably going to see what kind of morale drop Yarborough takes eventually and make a decision from there.

*********

Undercard Sparring Session #2

Eric Osiris Defeats Orpheus Thanatos via Unanimous Decision

Donkey’s Takeaways:

These two youngsters actually decided to fight for their three minutes in the spotlight, going toe to toe and also getting into the clinch during this session. Osiris, managed by Jason Smith, came out on top via Decision after showing his manager he has a Big Right Hand, something I’m sure Mr. Smith will be very happy with so long as he also shows a decent enough chin and morale down the line. For Thanatos, he was already a bit “borderline” for Hare, being that he was a mediocre, or even slightly sub-par by today’s standards, learner at only about a 5.1 learning speed. Most of the time, that’s a sack as it is. He showed a solid chin, which isn’t bad, certainly better than preferring to go do some gardening and with the loss only took about a 10% hit on the morale, which is pretty darn good. It remains to be seen what will happen with him due to that learning speed, but there’s a chance that Hare may possibly stick with him and see what happens long term if he’s patient. Perhaps he won’t ramp up so fast, but maybe also not fall off as hard eventually as he ages.

*********

Undercard Sparring Session #3

Baothghalach Mor Mac Fhirbhisigh Defeats Kazuhisa Nagashima via Unanimous Decision

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Next up, we have a couple of Esiah Xavier’s kids attempting to show what they have out there in the cage! The result of this one won’t matter. Heck, the morale drop for the loser won’t matter either. Fhir showed self confident and Nagashima showed Inexperienced in the tales of the tape. Both of those will result in instant sackings by Esiah, and a lot of grumbling in the process! Esiah has had a rough run with new prospects lately, and this one is another that will leave him in a sour mood no doubt!

*********

Undercard Sparring Session #4

Yzzof Raeb Defeats Joao Otero via Unanimous Decision

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Another one of Hare’s latest kids, this time coming away with a win going at it in the cage with another Action Jackson prospect. And being that Otero has already been sacked and sent to the locally grocery store to seek employment as a bag boy, I guess you can say it didn’t go well for him! The tale of the tape showed cuts easily…and that means…well, you probably shouldn’t be making a career in the cage. For Raeb, he showed that golden granite chin…but, he also, much like his teammate Thanatos, has a slightly underwhelming learning speed at 5.1. So we’ll have to see if he gets to stick around or not. Perhaps a morale check will be the deciding factor, but 5.1 these days is considered relatively slow.

*********

Welterweight Undercard Bout

Hugh Saber Defeats Igor Nox via Submission (Triangle)

Our first divisional fight of the evening saw Igor Nox, managed by Hyousuke Yamamoto, face off with Boss Lors’ young lion, Hugh Saber. Nox was the more well-rounded fighter in this contest, having a little skill in all areas including Muy Thai and wrestling where Saber really looked to the boxing and BJJ without much focus on those other two areas.

Nox took this one into the clinch early, no doubt attempting to capitalize on his areas of advantage. Saber immediately began the process of trying to pull guard to get this one to the ground and had three of them stuffed right away by Nox, but then also started attempting to mix in some striking as a distraction.

It was at that point that Nox decided to do Saber a favor as he proceeded to take the fight to the ground for him! Saber immediately began making sub attempts from his back, while Nox attempted to start ground and pounding his way into this match. After the first minute of action, Saber settled into a steady stream of sub attempts, and Nox was put mostly on the defensive attempting to fend them off, at least until closer to the two minute mark where Nox started to mount some offense again.

Saber was not to be put off though, and continued with the sub spam, making two more attempts after the two minute mark, the first a triangle that he wasn’t able to land and then, going for the same one more time, this time managing to lock it in tight…and that…was it boys!

What did you think Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

It seems to me that Nox is probably going to have to figure out what areas of offense he wants to focus on and start to fine tune his approach going forward if he wants to see success. A balanced build is nice, but not so much if it leaves you “ok” at everything but not overly good at any one thing. With five straight losses and six out of his last seven fights, he needs to figure out a path to success sooner rather than later. Saber finds his way back into the win column with this victory, a much needed success after three consecutive losses. Could this be the beginning of a big rebound? Perhaps he needed a fight on a card where he didn’t quite feel as much pressure.

*********

Co-Main Event - Light Heavyweight Bout

Shawn Simpson Defeats Nick Dormmamu via Submission (Armbar)

Two Light Heavyweight fighters here both made their Sucker Punch Pro Series debut with us the other night with Simpson coming out on top!

Simpson came into this fight with a 3-6 record, the three wins coming consecutively leading up to this fight. Definitely on the right track and turning things around for himself as he added a fourth straight win with this victory, all of them via submisssions! He’s a well-rounded fighter in the primary skills, with mediocre boxing, Muy Thai and wrestling along with a blue belt in BJJ and it seems he may have found his groove.

For Dormmamu, he, was 4-5-1 coming into this and unfortunately adds another to the loss column. A 24 year old, he also is a fairly somewhat rounded fighter, but his skills certainly lean more towards the standup with boxing and Muy Thai both being competent. He needed to take advantage of those skills, which were just slightly better than Simpson’s, in this contest and keep it on the feet to have a shot at victory, as the lower skill in wrestling and white belt in BJJ were not going to serve him well on the ground.

Dormammu took his shots early out of the bell with a couple kicks to the body and head of Simpson. The strange thing was, he also attempted a takedown, which is about the worst thing he could have tried to do in this contest I’d think. That makes me question the approach just a tad unless he was really very, very confident in his ground and pound.

So after this fight went to the ground, it got a bit more strange…as Simpson then went back to the feet. And Dormmamu again attempted to go to the ground…followed by a Simpson takedown attempt, both of which failed! Then some clinching, more takedown attempts and eventually success getting it there, where Simpson ended it via submission shortly after. Strange, strange fight!

What do you have Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

It was a strange fight, almost as if both fighters, even with the two coming into this with a combined total of 17 fights, don’t quite know what they want to do yet once they get into that cage. This one almost felt like a matter of eventually one guy was going to get lucky and the other potentially sloppy at some point, and it would end there, or go to a decision. For Simpson, he gets a much needed win and perhaps finds his way to getting back on track! For Dormammu, he has now dropped two in a row after a nice four fight win streak in the QFC, and will need to figure out if he can win outside the QFC! Oh, and btw…both of you…CHANGE YOUR CLOTHES! Neither had full morale coming into this one.

*********

Main Event - Welterweight Bout

Niki Geo Defeats Yuwanah Buhlshk via Unanimous Decision

Our last and final bout of the evening also featured two more new fighters to Sucker Punch, Niki Geo and Yuwanah Buhlshk.

Geo is a strong well rounded fighter with nice wrestling and Muy Thai skills. Looking at this fight before it went off, you’d have expected Geo to want to utilize the clinch and his Muy Thai to try to gain the advantage in this one if you didn’t know that Buhlshk is basically built almost identically! Two very evenly matched and mirrored fighters going at it in this contest!

Buhlshk came into this one on a bit of a down streak, having lost his prior three fights. He’d lost in a variety of ways, from decision to sub to KO, so really there was no one direction you’d go on advice on what to avoid against an opponent who mirrored him so well.

Geo on the other hand had lost his prior fight in Medieval Combat, but had been on a winning streak of five straight QFC fights before that. Again, as we often say, it was time to determine if he could step up from QFC to org fights and start winning!

Almost from the bell Buhlshk decided to go to the ground and work some GnP. Well, sorta, he took a few shots here and there, but was mostly inactive down there while having the advantage. And then stood back up…a few strike attempts later, he was back at it trying to go to the ground and got it again on the second attempt…followed by a lot of controlling and laying around for the final two and a half minutes of the round.

Second round, more of the same for the first half of the round. Then the ref stood it up, thank god, and we got to some striking with takedown attempts mixed in, and eventually it led to the clinch with some striking action there.

Round three, more of the same, but some sub attempts thrown in by Buhlshk. Basically, Buhlshk was destined to win this one just by staying a little more active and with the takedown successes, with Geo managing to actually win the final round due to there being more standup and winning with strikes, but unfortunately for him, it was too little too late.

Over to you Donkey, what have you got for us...?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

The fight started off somewhat promising, with the fans into it a bit as the action went to the ground and there was some GnP going on. But you could feel that they quickly grew weary of the same ole same ole and eventually the rating of the fight fell off drastically. Buhlshk gets the win, but really, this one was there for the taking by either with slightly more focused tactics. We’ll see what each decides to do going forward in their next fights!

Sucker Punch Preview

Featherweight Cockshot Sorter Series: SEMI-FINALS

Welcome back again Sucker Punch fans! Hare Rumpler here, along with our analyst, Donkey “Dan”, and our delightful media correspondent, Suzy Sucker Punch as we prepare for yet another big one in the Sorter Series line of cards that are helping to determine the standings for our divisions as well as ultimately belt our first division champions!

Tonight, the Featherweights will go at it and ya know what Donkey, they’ve been extremely quiet heading into this one! So quiet in fact, that Suzy has had little to nothing to do this week, it’s almost been like a week off for her! Well, I guess she can go on vacation unless a couple of these fellas or their managers want to talk after the fights this evening.

Tonight’s card is a complete Featherweight affair as we have a division that is full to capacity here at Sucker Punch. Eight of those bouts will continue to settle in the standings and just about finish determining where folks are on the ladder, while the final two will feature our remaining semi-finalists in the Featherweight Sorter Series, the winners of which will move on to the Finals with a shot at becoming the first Featherweight champions here at Sucker Punch!

So let’s get going, but first a word about our sponsor!

Now, let's get to it!

Featherweight Undercard Bout #1

Jack Reacher (0-3-0) vs. Sorsa Lokki (1-5-0)

Donkey, we open up this evening’s card with a couple kids who have really struggled, to say the least. Both Reacher and Lokki really, REALLY need a win to get things turned around and heading in the right direction. Both appear to be slightly off on morale as we speak but not ridiculously so and they should just about balance each other out. Hopefully they are over at the hotel, resting, focusing and just making sure they’re as right as they can be come fight time!

Reacher is 26 years old and his manager, Ray Lori, has struggled to find a way to motivate and guide this kid to a win so far in his young career. As a 26 year old, he needs to start finding his winning ways sooner rather than later though, as the younger kids will certainly start to catch him before long…if they haven’t already. He’s a boxing specialist with a blue belt on BJJ which is likely primarily there for defensive purposes. During his first fights, he showed himself to have a big heart and to be determined, however, being that his losses have come from submission, and then two TKO’s, one might not be wrong to start to question whether Reacher has the chin to stand and bang with his opponents. That would be concerning given his focus on being a boxer.

For Lokki, tonight may be all about answering the question, “Do I have what it takes to compete outside the QFC?”. He has one win and five losses, with the win coming in a QFC fight three fights back right before he joined us here at Sucker Punch. Since that win, he’s lost his first two fights here against Cobain and DIsmantle. Granted, both of those are tough competitors, so tonight will be a true gauge of whether he has what it takes to get on track. In his early fights, he too showed a big heart and to be determined. A lot of top managers I think would have potentially been a bit put off with those hiddens. If Lokki cannot succeed tonight against a struggling Reacher…well…

Donkey, any thoughts on these two youngsters…?

Donkey’s Pick: Lokki via TKO (Strikes)

You’re not wrong to say that this is gut check time for these two Hare. The one who loses may be at the end of the line. Obviously, that’s a decision for their manager, but ultimately, it may also have to be partially your decision Hare. Let’s hope we see something great from these two tonight! You mentioned that Reacher was a striker, but you failed to get into Lokki’s tendencies. Well, he’s a balanced fighter which sometimes results in struggles. He’s been finished via KO’s and TKO in the past, and submission, which is very similar to Reacher’s history. However, he does have a TKO win over Paul Wing in a QFC fight. The interesting part of that, is that Wing had shown a granite chin. So does Lokki potentially have some KO power going on? I’m going to hang my hat on that win tonight and make the call for Lokki.

*********

Featherweight Undercard Bout #2

Kaoru Nagashima (1-1-0) vs. Bruce Wayne (0-3-0)

Our next fight of the evening will feature two kids who also need a win to step foot on the right path, but while one is just as desperate as our two young fighters from the first fight earlier tonight, the other is in decent shape and simply wants to show that he is what we think he is.

For Nagashima, this is simply a chance to show that he belongs above “the remainder of the pack” so to speak. He had a good win over Dude Kerel in the first round of the Sorter Series, taking home Submission of the Night in the process, but then fell short against a very, very tough Andy Veidt. Veidt is now one of the semi-finalists, and as the #2 seed overall in the tourney could potentially move on to being a finalist. There is no shame in having lost to him. Tonight’s fight will be a chance to prove that his skills, especially his Jiu Jitsu technique, put him right up there with the boys who have things going in the right direction!

And it appears that Bruce Wayne may be making that a bit easier for Nagashima than it should be. Bruce is going to come into this contest at least 40% down on morale, which is NOT a good thing. Bruce is 0-3 in his career, and when you see something like this, you can pretty much start to guess why. He’s lost a fight in QFC to Dave Metal via Decision, who now fights for us here at Sucker Punch, and then to Antsa and Cobain via TKO each time. Wayne is a Muy Thai specialist and has shown a solid chin, so it may just be a matter of getting his strategy right and coming in fully prepared to give himself a good chance at winning. Tonight, that may not work out so well due to the lack of confidence and focus.

Got a pick for us Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Nagashima via Submission (Kimura)

Well, you really didn’t have to ask being that you know I pretty much never take the guy who comes in already at a disadvantage. Unless Wayne catches Nagashima with a good one early on, he’s going to discouraged quickly and it won’t matter whether that happens on the feet or the ground. It’ll go to the ground at that point and Nagashima will walk away with his second sub victory…and in the process set himself up for a step up in competition, having shown he’s ready to start back up the ladder! For Wayne, going 0-4 could be a very bad look though, so if he has any fight in him, he may want to come out with some aggression to combat that low level of morale!

*********

Featherweight Undercard Bout #3

Mickey DIsmantle (1-1-0) vs. O Chen Purjalsta (1-2-0)

Classic Striker versus Jiu Jitsu guy contest in this one Donkey!!! And I would love to have seen what these two can do in such a polar opposite contest, if only Purjalsta wasn’t coming in low on morale!

Yep, and that will drive Donkey crazy. Purjalsta will need to get this one on the ground and finished very early if he wants to have any shot at winning, otherwise the concern will be that his confidence will drop off and he will end up getting finished by DIsmantle. That’s the short and quick of this contest. And with a 1-2 record, the two losses being his most recent contests, he really does need to step up and get going with the winning ways as well. So this is not a great setup for him.

DIsmantle got knocked out of the Sorter Series in the first round by a tough Warran Peace who has gone on to the semi-finals tonight against Andy Veidt. Once past that tough match he was able to even up his record with a solid win over Sorsa Lokki last month. DIsmantle’s approach is pretty straightforward. Stand there and hit you…hard. He rocked Lokki in under 20 seconds and the entire thing was over at the half minute mark. If he can avoid a takedown by Purjalsta, this should be his fight to win.

Over to you Donkey, what do ya have for us…?

Donkey’s Pick: DIsmantle via TKO (Strikes)

Agreed, and I don’t know that Purjalsta is going to have the will to get this one to the ground if he fails on 2 or 3 takedown attempts. So it’s really important for DIsmantle to avoid the takedowns early. On the other hand, as you said, Purjalsta HAS to get this to the ground almost right out of the bell, or his chances drop off dramatically.

*********

Featherweight Undercard Bout #4

Jun Sekii (1-1-0) vs. Jakob Goulding (5-3-0)

Our fourth fight of the evening will feature Jakob Goulding in his Sucker Punch debut across the cage from Jun Sekii who is 1-1 so far with both fights having been fought here with us!

Goulding sports a solid 5-3 record and comes into this one just slightly off on morale. Not so much that it will prevent a win, but certainly not ideal either. He has a brown belt in BJJ and under his former manager used that belt to secure all five of his wins via submission. However, it appears he may be susceptible to a KO finish when he doesn’t get it to the ground. He has a solid chin, but clearly that isn’t the total package and being that he lacks skills for the most part in all areas of standup he’ll definitely want this on the ground immediately. It now remains to be seen what he can do under new management with Dillo, self proclaimed as “THE Manager”!

The fact that Goulding has no standup skills and is all about the ground game is either going to go very well, or very badly for Sekii tonight. Sekii is a pure striker, with wonderful boxing and almost zero ground game, so he is a complete reversal of Goulding. He’s going to want to follow the lead on Goulding’s prior losses and end this one standing and pray that even with a white belt in BJJ and abysmal wrestling that he can somehow prevent the takedown. Because if this does go to the ground, those boxing skills are likely not going to save him.

Donkey, what say you sir...?

Donkey’s Pick: Goulding via Submission (Armbar)

This one is going to end quickly. Heck, I’d almost say in under two minutes! And which way it goes is anybody’s guess. Sekii will either end this with a KO and have the crowd on their feet over a beautiful finish, or it goes to the ground and Goulding finishes it with a tap out by Sekii…assuming he doesn’t put him to sleep first…and again, with the crowd roaring! So this is a “must see” fight, but…who wins? I’m going to go with the ground game in this one, that lack of apparent grappling defense scares me away from Sekii unfortunately.

*********

Featherweight Undercard Bout #5

Julian Concrete (2-0-0) vs. Luke Skywalker (0-2-0)

The bottom half of our card this evening comes to a close as two young warriors with reversed, opposite records face off.

Julian Concrete has hands that are apparently made of just that. He’s had two fights in his career, both here with us at Sucker Punch, and has ended both in dramatic fashion, winning KO of the Night twice! And this man does not waste time, doing so in 20 seconds and 42 seconds. Yes, this man has ended two opponent’s evenings in a combination of just over one minute! Suffice it to say, this man is a pure and talented striker with competent boxing (on paper, I’d say it’s better than that) and wonderful Muy Thai. Oh, and just in case he comes up against somebody who DOES want to stand and bang…be aware that Concrete has a chin made of…well, granite. So there ya go. Steer clear!

His opponent tonight, Skywalker, also has a granite chin, so boy, could we see some fireworks and some shots taken in this one! Skywalker has feeble boxing and Muy Thai, but wonderful wrestling and a blue belt in BJJ. Suprisingly, he’s chosen to stand and bang in his first fight which he lost by decision and then looked to take his last fight to the clinch, which ultimately ended with him being knocked out. I’m not sure if he has the ground skills for subs or not, but I would seriously reconsider standing and banging with Concrete tonight. If there are any ground skills there at all, the better approach might be some GnP I’d think.

How about it Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Concrete via KO (Strikes)

Concrete knows what works for him and does it well. Yes, if he comes up against a good grappler, he’s probably going to be very much tested. But that grappler has to be confident in their skills and have a plan on how they want to use them. I’m not sure if that’s Skywalker yet at this point in his development. Skywalker may still be in the process of refining his ultimate build plan and may be stuck in the “in between”. Without a real focus on what he needs to do to win, I think Concrete may get the better of him tonight.

*********

Featherweight Main Card Bout #1

Ramon Rabbit (4-2-0) vs. Adrian Petrov (3-5-0)

I was honestly looking for this fight to be an absolute blast and a great way to kick off the top of the card! And honestly, it may still end up being that. But Petrov comes into this with his morale down to almost half, and that’s never encouraging.

Adrian Petrov kicked off his Sucker Punch run with us last month in a submission win victory over O Chen Purjalsta. With that win, he got the Sub of the Night award and sent a message to everybody about just why he should be feared on the ground with his wonderful wrestling and purple belt in BJJ. Prior to that, he had a bit of a losing streak going in HFC, so perhaps the change of scenery was good for him!

Ramon Rabbit will face Petrov across the cage tonight and will be determined to show him that that change of scenery was very short lived…with the new scenery being his first…in Petrov’s face! Rabbit started his professional career in Kickboxing, so his main focus is on striking…with strong boxing and exceptional Muy Thai. He also has competent wrestling, which tends to suggest he’s going to be very tough to handle if he traps you in the clinch!

The good news for Petrov is that in Rabbit’s last fight, his ground defenses were exposed when Charles Luciano tapped him out with an armbar. So the opportunity to exploit that, IF you can get him to the ground and IF you can avoid getting KO’d in the process, is there.

That about right Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Rabbit via TKO (Strikes)

Yep, that about says it Hare! The question will be…does Petrov have the confidence with that morale to get the takedown and finish…or, can Rabbit hold him off or punish him? I never like low morale, so obviously I’m going the other way tonight.

*********

Featherweight Main Card Bout #2

Kurt Cobain (3-0-0) vs, Hiki Antsa (1-1-0)

This next fight is a huge one! Not just for Sucker Punch or its fans in attendance tonight…but definitely for these two young fighters!

Antsa comes off a loss in the second round of the Featherweight Sorter Series against an extremely dangerous and talented Count Dankula. Cobain should be considered just about as dangerous. If Antsa can win tonight, he can show that that one loss was against elite competition, but he has what it takes to be right up there with the best and should be in that conversation. He’s a solid ground based fighter who has shown he can win via ground and pound, but isn’t afraid to go for subs either, which he did against Dankula…and had his chance to win that fight. Frank Abbott will no doubt be trying to calm the nerves and focus his young talent in so he has a shot at a big win against Cobain.

Cobain will have a thing or two to say about all of this of course. He’s 3-0 in his career, and with a win over Antsa could cement his claim to a spot in the top of this division and a call for a shot at the belt sooner rather than later. Cobain uses his hands to hurt you…bad. He’s KO’d his first two opponents here at Sucker punch, and pretty much did the same with his TKO victory over Wayne in his last fight. All were finished in the first round. There is no cute stuff from Cobain. He doesn’t want to dance with you, he doesn’t want to hug it out and he certainly doesn’t want to whisper sweet nothings in your ear. He wants to punch you, plain and simple. Your job, or in this case, Antsa’s job…is to avoid that and find a way to beat him!

This is a tough, tough fight for Cobain, just as it is for Antsa, but that’s exactly what it needs to be considering these guys’ names will be talked about as possible contenders after this!

Donkey, what are you thinking…?

Donkey’s Pick: Antsa via Submission (Armbar)

An extremely dangerous fight for both of these fighters as you said. Cobain has scary power and rock solid hands. It’s almost crazy to even look at what he’s done and pick against him, knowing full well that if he tags you with even one solid shot in the process of trying to get this to the ground, this could be over very fast. But, I’m going to go with my gut here, and go the other way. I think that maybe Antsa is the first guy who can solve this puzzle and get it to the ground, and from there, we get to see if Cobain can defend himself.

*********

Featherweight Main Card Bout #3

Jack Sparrow (8-1-0) vs. Dave Metal (2-1-0)

As we finish up the events leading up to our two Main Events tonight, we get two guys who are primed, full of gas, and ready to go! Now that I love, and you all know that it will make Donkey smile for a change.

Sparrow comes into this bout with a super-impressive 8-1 record, having taken a sole loss over in HFC before joining us last month here at Sucker Punch. In his debut here he dismissed Danny Mullen quickly from the ground with some impressive GnP in an affair that took just under two minutes. A big win and certainly the right way to make your entrance in Sucker Punch town! Sparrow has a good chin, remarkable wrestling and a blue belt in BJJ. He’s demonstrated he can win via submission or with strikes, so buyer beware!

The 26 year old Dave Metal is a Ray Lori disciple who had a win over our own Bruce Wayne from their QFC days and then a win over David Portanova here at Sucker Punch. He lost last month to a very formidable Warran Peace in the second round of the Sorter Series, which is nothing to be ashamed of. The question tonight will be, can he bounce back and defeat a very dangerous Jack Sparrow? Metal is a Muy Thai specialist and went the distance in both of his wins to get the decisions. But can he keep Sparrow from getting this to the ground for that long? Or can he finish it sooner this time? He proved against Portonova that he could defend on the ground, but can he do it against the caliber of Sparrow?

Donkey, over to you, what do you have…?

Donkey’s Pick: Sparrow via Submission (Strikes)

Metal is going to be truly tested tonight and I think that Sparrow may be just a little too much for him. If this one goes to the ground, Sparrows ground skills may be a bit too much and certainly more well-rounded than he’s seen previously. Metal could surprise though, if he can clinch up and do some damage without letting it be dragged down, then he could come out of this a winner and demand some serious respect!

Featherweight CSS Semi-Finals: #1 vs. #5

Count Dankula (2-0-0) vs. Charles Luciano (4-1-0)

Oh boy!!! And here we go Donkey!!! I’m so excited for these fights I can barely sit still in my seat without peeing my pants! Wait…Donkey…where are you going? Come back and sit next to me here so we can do this! It’ll only be a little tinkle, I swear! Haha.

Dankula versus Luciano is a MONSTER matchup. Granted, yes, Dankula is naturally the favorite as the #1 seed and with showing slightly better skills in the primaries. But Luciano has pulled off some BIG wins along the way and also grabbed the Sub of the Night award in Round 2 of the Sorter Series here last month.

Luciano is a well-rounded 25 year old fighter who has just “found” a way to win. At 4-1, he has only been defeated once via submission in the second fight of his career via sub by Demi Achilles. Since then he’s taken out Skywalker with a decision in Round 1 and Ramon Rabbit via submission last round as we discussed. Rabbit is a particularly dangerous opponent and that sub was very impressive!

Dankula is extremely dangerous and has wonderful boxing, the one area where he truly does overshadow Luciano. With a 2-0 record, fully garnered here at Sucker Punch in the Sorter Series, he’s gone through Jack Reacher and Hiki Antsa previously, both via TKO (Punches). Dankula is not afraid to take it to the clinch where he will use and abuse you like he did against Reacher. If this fight stays standing, you have to think that Dankula has the advantage. Luciano’s best bet may be to try to win on the ground as he did last time, but even then, Dankula proved against Antsa that he can fend off a really solid sub artist!

Donkey, you have a call here…?

Donkey’s Pick: Dankula via TKO (Strikes)

Luciano is a fan favorite, but Dankula may be just a little too much tonight and this may be the end of the tournament run for Luciano. But…we’ve also insinuated that before and Luciano has surprised us! I can’t pick against the top seed though, he’s the #1 man for a reason until somebody proves that he’s not!

Featherweight CSS Semi-Finals: #2 vs. #3

Andy Veidt (5-1-0) vs. Warran Peace (6-1-0)

Donkey! Do you see this?!? Yeah man, if you thought I was excited about the last fight…um, then you probably don’t want to know what this one did to me! Haha! ELEVEN Donkey! Eleven! That’s how many wins these two have between them, and only one loss a Peace! Get it, see how I worked that in there Donkey? C’mon man, don’t be such a sourpuss!

This is truly like an epic showdown, and won’t be out shined at least until we have a final set and ready to go! The only thing I’m even a little disappointed with is that Peace is coming into this one tonight with only half his morale! Seriously? Ah c’mon, ya gotta change those clothes and get him ready for something this big!!!

Warran Peace is a ground specialist, simple as that. But no, not how you think! Yes, this man has a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu…but he uses is to work the ground game…so he can pound the life out of you once he has position on you! Five straight wins since he was originally managed by J.W. Hardman, he’s destroyed every man who’s come against him while being managed by Dillon Weber. And it’s the same every time. He takes you down…and then it’s a matter of how long you can take getting pummeled by fists and elbows! Seriously, it’s cruelty at its finest.

Now, that may make it seem like I’m some sort of fanboy for Peace there and expect him to win. But hold your horses right there buddy! No no no! Veidt is also one seriously dangerous competitor! He has also won his last five in a row…and also all via the same method. Punch you…and then do it again…harder. Until you bleed and fold. Or just fold, he’s really not all that picky about it! But fold you will! Four TKO’s and a KO should be all the warning that you need…don’t stand there and make faces at Veidt…he’ll rearrange it for you if you do!

So Donkey, it seems strikes…and pain…is on tap…but by whom the most…and who comes out the victor???

Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Veidt via KO (Punch)

My god, I can’t believe I have to make a choice here! Wow…so very difficult! The question this becomes is…can Peace get this to the ground? If he can’t…can he stand with Veidt?!? If he does get it to the ground…can Veidt also do damage down there too? We’ve never seen Veidt tested on the ground outside one fight where he lost via submission. That’s not how this one goes, at least not with the sub game. We’ve also never seen Peace be denied the ability to get it to the ground, so we have no idea what happens then if he is denied! These two are the #2 and #3 seeds for a reason! Flip a coin Hare, I don’t know, so I’ll go with the guy who has full morale!

*********

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

Do not…I repeat…do NOT miss this one! We’ve said that before for other cards and it holds very true here! Miss this one, and you’ll be disappointed. Maybe that’s why the managers and fighters have been so quiet this week for the Featherweights, they may just be laser focused in on the fights coming tonight, and I cannot wait!!!

I hope you’re there to enjoy this, I know we will be…and not just cause we’re paid to be!

Till next time…

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series 355k+ style!

Featherweight Cockshot Sorter Series: SEMI-FINALS

What a night Sucker Punch fans! We had an absolutely fantastic event last night, with one of our highest rated cards even though we held it in a smaller arena! Now that just tells you how hype and crazy this thing was! So let’s get into the excitement and see just what kind of madness went on last night…Hare Rumpler here, along with our analyst, Donkey “Dan”, and our amazingly talented media correspondent, Suzy Sucker Punch bring the recap of the action straight at you in just a few moments!

Last night, we had a card chock full of Featherweights over at Hard Knocks – Sydney! Heading into this thing, the fighters and their managers were fairly quiet, and we weren’t sure if they just weren’t ready and into this thing, or if it was just a quiet intensity thing before the storm. Well, we certainly found out as the fights were spectacular, the finishes as well, and the surprises plenty!

So let’s get going, but first a word about our sponsor!

Now, let's get to it!

Featherweight Undercard Bout #1

Sorsa Lokki Defeats Jack Reacher via Unanimous Decision

Donkey, we said that this would be a gut check for both of these young fighters last night…and boy, did they go at it for the full three rounds! They put up one hell of a contest, one that had the fans going from the very start and had one of the highest fight ratings of the evening! Now that’s what I’m talking about. For three rounds, these two stood and banged…no clinching, no hugging, no rolling around on the ground cuddling and spooning…none of that nonsense for these two…nope, just stand at arm’s reach and see who can tag who! Now that will get the fans going!

Can you believe Reacher threw 101 head punches alone in this thing??? I mean, that’s almost insane, this guy was ACTIVE, and yet, he never gassed out! Amazing. Unfortunately, he might have needed to mix it up a little bit more to keep from becoming predictable, as he ended up only landing about 20% or so of those attempted strikes. Lokki wasn’t nearly as insane with his activity, but he landed a significantly higher percentage of his strikes, and in total, more by sheer numbers as well. And it was mixed up, with more to the body than the head and quite a few combos as well. Also, he used his feet, landing a ton of leg kicks which surprisingly never really slowed Reacher down, but had to do damage and certainly counted with the judges.

Ultimately, these two put on a hell of a show, and Lokki found a way to win this with the judges with his accuracy and effectiveness. I like what these two did though, and I’m eager to see what they do in their next fights, whether Lokki can continue with his newfound winning ways, and whether Reacher may be able to turn things around!

Donkey, whatcha think man, you called for a finish, but didn’t get one…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Hey, I may not have gotten the finish due to this going the distance, but I got the winner! And frankly, the way these two stood and banged, if it had come to a finish, I would have had that too. This was certainly a good one for the fans, and the way you start out an evening. Unless the evening continues to get better from this one out, this may very well be the fight of the night! Congrats to Lokki, now he just needs to prove he can keep it going.

Featherweight Undercard Bout #2

Kaoru Nagashima Defeats Bruce Wayne via Submission (RNC)

Donkey, you were on absolutely fire with your picks for these Featherweights! You called Nagashima by Sub, and you got it! Maybe not the exact sub, but darn…still! I mean, who coulda known that Nagashima was going to manage to take Wayne’s back and sink in a rear naked choke of all things?!?

This one lasted just one second shy of a minute! The crazy man Nagashima had that look in the eyes, yeah, you know the one I mean…and when Wayne took him to the clinch you had to wonder if he was going to be able to keep from having Nagashima drag him to the mat. Honestly, I liked this strategy…Wayne’s strength lies in his Muy Thai, as we discussed in the preview, but the only downside to this was his morale. And I do very much believe that the lack of morale led to him not having the confidence to hold off Nagashima and prevent that takedown!

Once this thing went to the ground, it was bad news for Wayne. It was exactly where Nagashima wanted to be, and exactly what he was looking for to rebuild his confidence and get back on a winning streak.

The takedown was impressive, with Nagashima locking it up round the middle and taking Wayne for a ride as he put him down with authority. And the sub was almost a given within a few more seconds of that. You have to give it up for Wayne though, although he didn’t seem to show a ton of confidence in his abilities, his heart wasn’t going to let him tap in this one, and Nagashima was forced to put him to sleep. We just have to hope Wayne recovers from it, we saw that blood start to trickle out of the nose the same as the ref did, and that’s never a pretty sight!

How about it Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

This was a “get back on your horse and show em what you’ve got” match for Nagashima, and he did what he needed to do. Not only that, but there’s a possibility this one could be the Sub of the Night! It was brutal, a choke like that that puts you out is dangerous, and unfortunately, short of Wayne tapping out our the ref calling it, you have to see it through till the ref pulls you off. Nobody can fault him for that, although there’s a possibility he feels bad about it anyway. Or, based upon the look in those eyes, maybe not, I’m not sure anybody really knows what this man is thinking!

Suzy was waiting to speak with Nagashima as he exited the cage…but before she could ask him anything, he grabbed the mic…that same crazed look in his eyes…

Kaoru Nagashima: What did I say and what did the prophet Donkey Dan tell you all! The lessons of Akirono know no defeat! My brain connected to the cosmic ether of the universe and the my arms, a word that starts with a r m became ARMOR, A R M,I connected my soul then to the spirit Taka Donishimura who told me to take my opponent to the floor T D, Take Down, and I flooded this world with those cosmic juices that went henceforth all over my opponent, and then as the great prophet Donkey Dan predicted, my iron wrists brought him to the edge and gave him the gift of the end as well as I sent him to the outer realms! His blood the communion with this mat! I reach now for council with the Space Falcon Exetremo for further guidance on the path between destruction and gardening and await the next opponent to prescribe my lessons.

Suzy Sucker Punch: Um…well…that was…interesting! I don’t know what to make of that guys, so back up to you!

Featherweight Undercard Bout #3

Mickey DIsmantle Defeats O Chen Purjalsta via KO (Punches)

Another fight, another one right for Donkey! Dang man, I hope you put some money on these before the event last night…actually, nix that, I hope you didn’t since it’s against company policy to bet on our own cards of course. If you did, I don’t want to know about it, plausible deniability and all that ya know?

It took DIsmantle exactly fourty-eight seconds to…well, dismantle Purjalsta in this fight! Right from the bell Purjalsta went for the clinch. You have to assume he wanted to use the clinch to pull guard or whatever it took to get to the ground, but unfortunately for him Mickey landed a good shot to the body right away that looks like it took the air right out of Purjalsta. That prevented any attempt at a takedown from there and gave Mickey the opportunity to break from the clinch and get back to striking from distance!

But that’s where things might have gone off the rails for Purjalsta. He didn’t quite have enough focus on trying for a takedown from separation, and instead chose to stand and trade shots with DIsmantle. I’ll tell you right now, unless you’re an extremely confident striker, that’s a damned mistake. And Purjalsta paid for that mistake as about a half minute later DIsmantle threw a three punch combo that looked as if it was going to be a complete whiff, with Purjalsta dodging and slipping the first two shots…but oh my! That third shot, a big, huge right hook, landed flush to the side of Purjalsta’s head…and baby, that was GOOD NIGHT, SWEET DREAMS!

Your thoughts on this one Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

You really do have to love it when the evening starts out with three fights that could easily deserve the three “of the Night” awards! With this win, DIsmantle puts himself right up there in the conversation about future and potential top contenders going forward. He’s set himself up in the top half of the ladder and will probably only need another win or two over some of the top fighters in the division to make a claim that he should be getting a shot. This was a huge one for him to establish a winning record and reinforce his dominance in the striking game. For Purjalsta, he drops to 1-3, and is going to very much need a win in his next fight to gain some momentum and turn things around.

Featherweight Undercard Bout #4

Jun Sekii Defeats Jakob Goulding via TKO (Strikes)

Finally you are proven wrong on one Donkey! Wow, but you made a good little streak of it so far this evening, and have time to turn it around again even after this. In our preview, we had said that, “The fact that Goulding has no standup skills and is all about the ground game is either going to go very well, or very badly for Sekii tonight.” Well, lucky for Sekii, it turns out he was very prepared for just that scenario, and appears to have fine-tuned that takedown defense!

Goulding did what we expected a pure ground game guy to do…go for the takedowns. This fight only lasted a bit past a minute, and in that time, he tried for three, but Sekii was up to the task and denied the trifecta. And with this things staying on the feet, well, there was no surprise that it played right into Sekii’s hands. As a pure striker he had a huge advantage as long as this stayed standing…but then…ooh, did you see it Donkey???

That’s right, this here is Sucker Punch, home of the cheap shot artists and we’ve always told everybody keep your head up, your eyes open, and watch out for the dirty stuff! The ref didn’t see it, hell, even the play by play guys only guessed at what might have happened down there…but I saw it Donkey! I seeeeeen it! And you know who else saw it? Goulding, right in his eye! Sekii did the dirty and gave him the ole stooges to the eyeball move, poking him right in it! As if Sekii needed the advantage on the feet, but that might have been the edge he needed to put an end to those takedown attempts, and also put an end to Goulding for the evening with a TKO via strikes as he was busy blinking away trying to see straight!

I don’t know Donkey…I think Goulding may lodge a formal complaint on this one and call this a victory with an asterisk next to it for Sekii! Something tells me things could get ugly if these two meet again!

Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

I’m standing by my pick Hare! I picked Goulding to win this via sub on the ground, and if not for that eye poke, who knows what might have happened! I will say this, maybe it’s time you do a formal review of the refs down there and their training Hare, cause he should have caught that. Seriously. I mean, I’m not going to scream about it and all, this is Sucker Punch and you always have to be on your guard, but damn, that’s a crappy way to lose. Anyways, Sekii wins, fair…or not so fair…and square. I hope he watched his back on his way to the parking lot after the event last night though…

Featherweight Undercard Bout #5

Julian Concrete Defeats Luke Skywalker via TKO (Strikes)

Donkey, I don’t think we could have called this fight any better than we did. I mean, not to break my arm patting myself…and you…on the back or anything, but yeah, we knew this would be a standup battle when it stayed there, and we had said that Skywalker’s best bet may be to try to go to the ground and win it there rather than going toe to toe with Concrete. Well, he did do that, so more power to him and good job on trying to take advantage of the areas where he could have the most success.

Unfortunately, Concrete was too much for him last night, and he’ll move to 3-0 while Skywalker drops to a disappointing 0-3. And here’s the thing, the strategy kind of worked for Skywalker. He did get it to the ground, not once, but twice in the first round. Exactly what we did suggest. But he just wasn’t able to finish it there, and give Concrete credit for handling that well.

Here’s a quick summary, or cliff notes, of the fight…

Whack whack back and forth…clinch by Skywalker. Abuse from Concrete for about a good minute and a half. Takedown! Unfortunately Skywalker can’t get anything working there, and ref stands it up. Skywalker clinches again, and eventually another Takedown! A couple sub attempts that fail, ref standup and end of round. Round 2…Concrete has had enough of this shit and lands a huge combo out of the gate after blocking a combo by Skywalker that rocks and cuts Skywalker (worse than he already was). Clinch by Skywalker…and....queue the abuse from Concrete! A this point, Skywalker gets gassed trying to defend himself from the absolute assault from Concrete…and the inevitable happens…hook to the chin, and down he goes! Oh, and queue a bit more abuse before the inept ref stops it!

How about it Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Unfortunately for Skywalker, he was never able to get anything going on the feet with his striking. The shots he did take didn’t land for the most part, and Concrete was dominant in that area. We knew Concrete most likely would be. Kudos to Skywalker for attempting to go where he could gain an advantage, and he did have his shot down on the ground. Perhaps the clinch wasn’t the best place for him to try to set up the takedowns though, as Concrete was practically drooling over the opportunity to dish out the punishment there. Great job by Concrete, and a good learning fight for Skywalker. I think he’s going to come back a stronger, more strategic fighter next time we see him, as you could see the progress in this fight.

Featherweight Main Card Bout #1

Ramon Rabbit Defeats Adrian Petrov via TKO (Strikes)

Dang Donkey, what is this, five out of six so far last night for you? Some nights you have it, and last night, you had it buddy!

For Petrov, you could more or less see the potential for this to go the way it did. He came in with his morale down, and that never helps when it comes to the confidence you need to pull off your game plan. In this case, that plan was to get this fight to the ground. Petrov tried, with three attempts, but none were executed successfully and Rabbit was able to keep this on the feet, and dominate from there.

Rabbit dished out shot after unanswered, and unblocked, shot. Only a single combo that he threw failed to score, and that’s not going to go well for anybody on the receiving end when you’re getting tagged basically with everything that’s thrown out there at you! The next time Petrov faces a striker, I think he may seriously want to ensure he’s training striking defense in the session or two leading up to the rest sessions before the fight!

Is there anything else to say Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Domination from start to finish. Rabbit was on point with everything tonight and was about as sharp as I’ve ever seen a striker be. This would have been a tough night for anybody against him I think, and certainly if your defense isn’t up to par. Being unable to get this fight to the ground was a death sentence for Petrov and he’ll need to refine his skills and strategy before the next fight!

Featherweight Main Card Bout #2

Hiki Antsa Defeats Kurt Cobain via Submission (Arm Triangle)

Seriously Donkey?!? How in the H-E-Double hockey sticks did you call this semi-upset?!? I’m shocked. Let me bow down to you for a moment here buddy, cause I have to say, this one was highly impressive. I hope you played the lottery last night before you came to the arena!

Many, many folks would have considered Cobain to be the favorite to walk away the victor in this one. He’s been just about unstoppable with those deadly hands of his and as we sometimes say, we’ll believe he can be stopped when somebody stops him! Well…somebody stopped him folks!

Antsa continues to impress. Let me just make that clear. Yes, he lost to Count Dankula in the second round of the Sorter Series, but he jusssst barely lost that one. That fight almost went the other way as he had Dankula down, and he had the subs rolling…but Dankula managed to escape, and the rest is history, as he wasn’t toying with that dangerous ground game of Antsa’s again!

Tonight, Cobain dished out some abuse before Antsa got this to the ground. Antsa took a nasty cut for his troubles from a beautiful cross of Cobain’s, and Cobain dropped about five other good shots on him before he realized he better get to the ground game part of his plan sooner rather than later! Antsa had tried to stand and go toe to toe with Cobain for a bit, attempting nine strikes of his own, but none were landing and he was just getting tagged for it. Now, whether he was taking that abuse as a way to get Cobain off his guard for the takedown, or whether he just hadn’t had a good opportunity up through the first minute we don’t know. Maybe Suzy can find out!

But at just after a minute, Antsa came in again in what looked to be a strikes attempt, but really just a chance to get in close and land a trip takedown…and boom, from there he was all over Cobain and had the arm triangle in next to no time! A thing of beauty!

To his credit Donkey…Cobain absolutely friggin refused to tap out. No way, no how! I think I even saw him mouth something along the lines of “son of a bitch!” right before he went to sleep!

Donkey, sub of the night…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

It’s going to be a really tough choice between this one and the other earlier by Nagashima! These were some beauties tonight, and damn, brutal with the refusals to tap! Is it any surprise that this kid’s manager hangs out over at Hardcore and his fighter absolutely refuses to tap? I think not. Antsa gets a huge win in this one, and with it, puts himself right there in the conversation about who the top players in this division really are. Cobain is still up there as well, but now, everybody will wonder…is this a hole in his game? Or did Antsa just really catch him on a rough day? Or, is Antsa just that sneaky of a sumbitch! Haha!

Suzy caught Antsa as he exited the cage, victorious and wearing a huge smile…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Hiki, this win has to have you in the clouds right now. I know you probably never doubted your ability to win this, but some others had cast some doubts. Apparently not Donkey though, he picked you to win, so maybe he knew something about your strategy? Any thoughts on the fight now that you’ve come out victorious?

Hiki Antsa: Heard Cobain ramble to himself, over and over again, "I'm a negative creep, I'm a negative creep when I'm stoned". That's when I told my coach he must be stone cold crazy or on too many steroids and I better put him to sleep before some weird shit starts to happen to me in the ring. I was able to stay away from those dangerous fists and after that I knew I'd end up in a good position and the rest is history. I want to stay relevant in my division, so no one can afford to count me out, precisely what I told everyone after my loss to Dankula. I will be the champ at some point, mark my words.

Suzy Sucker Punch: Sounds like one of the stranger experiences in the cage there Hiki! Well, congrats on the win, and good luck as you prepare for your next fight!

Featherweight Main Card Bout #3

Jack Sparrow Defeats Dave Metal via Submission (Triangle Armbar)

“He (Metal) proved against Portonova that he could defend on the ground, but can he do it against the caliber of Sparrow?” That was the question we had asked ourselves in the preview heading into this fight last night. We have our answer!

Jack Sparrow is that good on the ground, and Dave Metal, while he has proven an ability to get away in the past and defend, wasn’t quite up to the task last night. Sparrow didn’t even bother to disguise this one or make pretend like he was going to strike and before going to the ground. No, he came out trying for the takedown from the start, and spent about 30-40 seconds in this one failing three times while Metal on the other hand attempted to clinch up that entire time.

Finally, Sparrow got that takedown he wanted, and then the submission spam game was afoot! A bit of GnP thrown in here and there on the ground, just to keep it lively and make sure Metal was paying attention, but other than that, this was Sparrow transitioning from one attempt to the next while Metal desperately tried to keep from taking an L. It went on for a suprising three minutes before finally Sparrow was able to sink in the triangle armbar..and a beautiful transition into it I might add!

Donkey, what do you have for us…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Metal goes to 2-2 with this loss and is going to have his work cut out for him to get on a winning roll before time starts to catch up with him. He has a solid chin and has shown he can win, but it’s been in matches that ended in decision and he’s never shown the ability to finish. As he gets tougher competition, these guys will definitely want to, so he’s going to be pressed to either find his way or give way to youngsters. For Sparrow, he improves an already impressive record and is ready to slice through the remainder of the middle of this division to see if maybe he has what it takes to be a champ!

Co-Main Event

Featherweight CSS Semi-Finals: #1 vs. #5

Count Dankula Defeats Charles Luciano via KO (Punch)

Our Co-Main event of the evening…and boy did this bring the fireworks! But I hope you didn’t blink, because those fireworks were on display in less than a minute!

For “Lucky” Luciano…his luck ran out last night as he came up against a beast known as Count Dankula. We knew that this was a likely scenario for him, as he’d over performed to this point based upon original expectations…and honestly, for that he and his manager are to be commended on a job well done!

Dankula was not going to walk into this one and sit back on his heels, taking it for granted. Instead, he came out with the intensity that you would want to see from a #1 seed and potential champion! The bell rang, these two stepped up toe to toe and started trading shots! A jab here from Dankula, an uppercut there…Luciano with a shot of his own…and to his credit, Luciano made an attempt to take this to the ground…because frankly, standing and going at it with Dankula was probably not going to be a great long term answer. He didn’t get that takedown though, and Dankula was stalking him…hell, Dankula walked right into a jab from Luciano and kept right on coming…

And that’s when it got ugly…a missed left from Luciano and then…a brutal left hook…and Luciano’s next thought was, “Where am I?” and “Hey, why’s everybody up on the ceiling looking at me…oh…wait…damn….”

Absolutely brutal KO there Donkey, another potential “Of the Night” in that one…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

You could certainly make worse choices in life than this one for an “of the Night” award, that’s for sure! Lucky didn’t find his pot of gold at the end of this rainbow, but think about all the attention he can get from the ladies at the bar later with this story, and playing up the need for a “nurse” for the evening! Dankula is just what we expected, and seeded right where he should have been. He goes on to the Finals now, and will represent this division, and Sucker Punch, very well! Congratulations!

Suzy chatted with Luciano a bit in the locker room after the doctors were finished fully checking him over after that brutal KO…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Charles, you’ve had a great run in this tourney, but with the knockout from Dankula tonight, that run comes to an end. How are you feeling and what comes next?

Charles Luciano: In the words of the great Chael Sonnen, who came within a whisker of beating Jon Jones’ mangled toe and being crowned champion, “He’s an excellent fighter. I have no problem with the decision or the stoppage. ... I just wanted to beat him. I thought I could keep up with him. I was very surprised at his power and his size. I’m disappointed. I thought I had more in me tonight. Count Dankula is the man.”

Suzy Sucker Punch: Well boys, there you have it, a respectful Luciano gives it up to his competition. But at the same time, I think the docs may want to double check on him…apparently he thinks that this went to a decision or stoppage…does he remember waking up on the canvas?

Featherweight CSS Semi-Finals: #2 vs. #3

Andy Veidt Defeats Warran Peace via TKO (Punches)

Wow, this one did NOT disappoint Donkey! I was intrigued as much by this fight as you were. We had lots of questions…could Veidt keep it on the feet. What would happen if he couldn’t? As for Peace, he’d never come into a fight that he couldn’t get to the ground and abuse his opponent…would he be able to continue doing that against Veidt? So many questions, and some of them were finally answered last night!

The bell rang, and this one went EXACTLY as advertised. Peace trying for takedowns to undoubtedly set up his brutal signature ground and pound…and Veidt standing his ground and taking advantage of his standup striking game!

Those questions from the preview? Well, we have some answers now. Can Veidt hold off somebody like Peace from taking him down? Apparently, the answer is a resounding, “YES!”. If Peace can’t get the game to the ground, what would happen against the likes of Veidt in the standup? Well…it ends with Veidt using his advantage to carve out another W and a trip to the Finals! That’s what happens.

Just shy of three minutes, we got to see these two both attempt to do what they do best. The man who was able to turn his plan into reality was Veidt, and unfortunately for Peace, he was not able to do it, at least not last night. This is a fight I’d like to see again, and see if with some mild tinkering things go differently. I honestly believe these two are that close in skill and ability!

Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Veidt will represent this division in the Finals and it’s well deserved. He had focus and definitely had a game plan he was able to execute. Did he focus on a lot of takedown D leading into this one? Only he and his manager know for sure, but if they did, it certainly worked out well! We know that the play by play guys said he’d been working on his boxing leading up to the fight, and that certainly showed. Good luck to him in the finals, he’s got another very tough competitor in Dankula waiting for him! For Peace, he remains a top competitor in the division and will get a chance to take on Lucky Luciano to see who becomes the top contender with a shot to take down the eventual champion once he’s belted next month!

Suzy was there at cage-side to grab Veidt as he exited the winner…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Andy, a massive win for you tonight as you take one step closer to potentially being the first champion for the Featherweights here at Sucker Punch! Any words for the fans, or thoughts on this fight or your big upcoming showdown with Count Dankula?

Andy Veidt: I am gonna bleed Count Doncula out.

Suzy Sucker Punch: Donkey, Hare. A man of very few words here. But, words that leave no question as to his intentions for his next opponent, that’s for sure!

*********

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

Well, we said this was a card not to miss, and boy, did it absolutely NOT disappoint! This was an outstanding night of fights, one of those nights where you go, “Man, I wish they were ALL like this!”. I can’t thank our managers and our fighters enough, and the fans for coming out and showing their support, as we sold out the arena for our first full sellout without any giveaways!

I hope you enjoyed the show, I know we did!!!

Till next time…

Sucker Punch Preview

Welterweight Cockshot Sorter Series: Semi-Finals

Hello out there Sucker Punch fans!!! I’m Hare Rumpler and I’m excited to bring you this event preview with our analyst, Donkey “Dan”, and Suzy Sucker Punch, our incorrigible media correspondent!

We have a fully jam packed card of Welterweights coming up for you tomorrow night…and while all fights are important, two of these are especially so! The remaining four fighters in our Welterweight Sorter Series go at it to see who moves on to the finals, and some relatively big contracts, along with a shot at potentially being the first champion for this division. Not exactly a whole lot on the line, nothing to worry about, relax, settle down…haha, easier said than done!

With that being said, we’re going to get our butts on over to the card and see what kind of action we can expect at the Bondi Outdoor Arena tomorrow! It’s going to be a little bit chilly out there tomorrow, with a bit of a breeze whipping through and somewhere in the range of 50F, so be sure to bring those coats and blankets for this outdoor extravaganza!

We have a quick word from our merchandise sponsor and partner, and then let’s get this thing going Donkey, cause I’ve got some picnics to get to and some hotdogs, chicken and burgers to munch!

http://mmatycoon.com/images/company/logo/1584375781SWN.jpg

When you think about training your fighters, one of the biggest concerns is keeping them in the gym and actively training, am I right? And you can’t do that if they have to be stopping to recover and rest for sessions here and sessions there! That is why you need to visit our sponsor, Shadow Warrior Nutrition, and specifically grab some of their Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q. It is literally the best energy loss reduction supplement money can buy and will keep your fighter in the gym training rather than sitting days out resting! Stop on over there today, you will NOT be disappointed!

Now, let's get to it!

Welterweight Undercard Bout #1

Yamakinme Crazy (4-4-0) vs. LetsAG DAFight (0-5-0)

We’ll open this one up tomorrow night with two kids who would really both like to get a good win. Crazy will want that win because he’s coming off a loss and this is his Sucker Punch debut for us! DAFight will want that win because…well…because he doesn’t have one yet after five fights, two of which were with us here at Sucker Punch.

Your picks are usually considerably better than mine Donkey, so we’ll see what you have to say. But, unless DAFight fixes things up between now and fight time tomorrow, he could potentially come into this one just slightly down on energy…but definitely down a little bit on morale as that won’t be fixed in time. It’s not ridiculously low, but every little bit helps! For the energy, well, there is still time if he rests his final two sessions before the fight. DAFight is a boxing specialist, with very little Muy Thai , some respectable wrestling and a white belt in Jiu Jitsu.

DAFight will be very closely matched by Crazy, who is pretty much developed the same across the board! For me, I see these two as very even in skills, down to the point of being almost mirrors of each other, other than Crazy being just a bit older. Crazy has won via both Decisions and TKO’s, but he’s also been finished via TKO’s and KO’s also. And a submission in his last fight over at SMASH.

Expect this fight to stay on the feet. I don’t really see it going any other way.

Donkey, got those picks ready to go for tonight…?

Donkey’s Pick: Crazy via TKO (Strikes)

When we were talking I know you sounded like you were leaning towards DAFight a little bit in this one Hare, but I’m going to have to go the other way. I’m going to lean on Crazy’s age and experience, and likely slightly better physicals, in this one. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s at least proven an ability to carry a .500 record, so he knows what has and hasn’t worked for him in the past. That’s something that DAFight is still figuring out. DAFight will want to prove me wrong in this one of course. He has 2 fights left on his contract here at Sucker Punch and certainly he’ll want to carry a win into the next contract negotiation and offer!

*********

Welterweight Undercard Bout #2

Pietro Marchionni (2-1-0) vs. Andrey Nikonov (2-2-0)

Our second bout of the evening brings Pietro Marchionni and Andrey Nikonov to the cage. Much like the first fight on the card, these two are really well matched and similar in skills. But not mirror like so much as the last match. Instead, Nikonov has the slight MT advantage going into this while Marchionni holds the edge in wrestling. Two very interesting skills to have opposite one another as they’re often used together, but for these two fighters, in different ways!

Marchionni has shown a tendency to want to get his TKO wins on canvas, with some nasty, dirty ground and pound. Nikonov on the other hand has taken the fight to the clinch both times he’s won and attempted to do his dirty work there. Can he keep it standing and not get taken down? That may be the big question, as with lesser wrestling and a similar white belt in BJJ, it probably wouldn’t be a great position for him down there.

Nikonov comes into this just off a submission (strikes) loss to John Fuller in the second round of the Sorter Series. Fuller has surprised a lot of folks, so Nikonov shouldn’t have his tail between his legs. But he is going to want this win to get above .500! Marchionni is in a similar situation, having taken a tough loss to Malachi Routerhead in the second round of the tournament, so he also comes in just off a loss. Now it’s time to see which of these two can shake it off and get back on their horse!

What I love most about this one Donkey, and I think you’ll agree, is that both are fully prepared for this fight! Energy up! Morale up! Woot, let’s get it on! Clearly both Frank Abbott and Yury Bagrov are interested in giving their fighter the best shot possible in this, and I absolutely love that.

Nikonov started his training a little bit older than Marchionni, so that MAY provide a slight edge…if he still holds one at this point in development…over Marchionni in the physicals. We shall certainly see!

Donkey, anything to say…?

Donkey’s Pick: Marchionni via TKO (Strikes)

While the skills are very, very well matched, I like that Marchionni’s wrestling and grappling skills may benefit him both standing up trying to defend in the clinch, which is where Nikonov will likely take this, as well as server him on the ground. To me, that’s a big advantage in this particular fight and that’s why I have to lean towards Marchionni for the win! If Nikonov can prevent a takedown, he’ll have the chance to prove his clinch skills against Marchionni.

Welterweight Undercard Bout #3

Rayne Dame (3-2-0) vs. Kahdi Mandinos (2-2-0)

Both Dame and Mandinos will be a little bit off on morale heading into this third fight of the evening. Not a killer, end of the world amount off, but some regardless. So who can overcome that little bit of self-doubt? We’ll find out tomorrow night that’s for sure.

Dame had three wins in the QFC before joining Sucker Punch. Since then, he’s been unable to translate his wins into the same outside the QFC fights. With losses to John Fuller and, Whaddaboutt Bob, he’ll definitely want to turn the corner and get that win total moving upward again. He’s a striker, but has also shown he’s willing to attempt a submission when on the ground. The last two of his three wins were taken to a decision, where the opponents both tried to clinch up and win it that way, but Dame showing them that that wasn’t going to cut it and winning in the minds of the judges. His losses since have come via strikes both standing up and on the ground.

I know one man would love to see this one go to the ground, and that’s Mandinos. If this goes to the ground, he will simply dare Dame to try and pull off a submission against him. Both have purple belts, but Mandinos has the superior wrestling skills and multiple wins via sub. However…important to note is that early on, he did get subbed out himself. So could that be an opening for Dame there even on the ground? Perhaps not, as that was the first fight of Mandinos’ career and he has likely progressed to a point where that won’t happen when he has the ground advantage. If he can win, he’ll pull ahead of his even record and see himself start moving up that ladder!

Donkey, where do you think this one goes…?

Donkey’s Pick: Mandinos via Submission (Kimura)

Dame has the advantage in age here, and normally that translates to better physicals/secondaries and an ability to impose your will upon a younger fighter at this level of development. But not always. And I think perhaps this might not be one of those situations. Until Dame proves he can win outside the QFC, there are going to be questions. And I like Mandinos’ advantages in the ground game.

*********

Welterweight Undercard Bout #4

Luka Marka (2-0-0) vs. Thanos Reigns (1-3-0)

Luka Marka comes into this fight with a perfect 2-0 record, and from what I hear, definitely wants to keep it that way Donkey! Well, incremented a bit, but still perfect. Managed by J.W. Hardman, he’s a young 19 year old with a boxing and wrestling advantage in this contest.

Standing across the cage tomorrow night will be Thanos Reigns. A man who, well, talks a bit..um, name…but so far has not really managed to back it up consistently. Tomorrow, against a tough Marka, he will be looking to do just that, back it up and create consistency with two wins in a row! He holds an advantage in the clinch with his Muy Thai skills and also has a blue belt in BJJ, which we figured was mostly defensive but surprisingly he attempted quite a few submissions in his last fight after he got taken to the ground. Perhaps just instinct but not backed by real skill? Or something he’s been working on? Time will definitely tell on that one! But he eventually won that fight on the feet.

Reigns had better hope it’s the latter, and something he’s been working on. That’s because Marka’s intentions couldn’t be more clear. He’s going to try to utilize that wrestling advantage to take you down, and then he’s going to let the fists fly with the boxing and ground and pound, attempting his best impression one of those gavel thingamajiggy things you use to pound out veal or chicken!

Wow, that was just so eloquent, I should get paid to write this shit, eh Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Marka via TKO (Strikes)

Reigns should fear the pain, because I fear it’s coming! And, Donkey, don’t quit your day job man, seriously. Reigns will have to prove consistency and well roundedness before we can pick him over somebody who has proven to have a focus on exactly what he wants to accomplish when he gets in the cage, even more importantly, how he wants to accomplish it. Reigns can start changing our minds on that with a win tonight!

*********

Welterweight Undercard Bout #5

Whaddaboutt Bob (5-4-0) vs. Tik Tok (3-3-0)

Well, this one should be interesting. And no, unfortunately, not because I expect “Fight of the Night” material here. But because Tok is now without a manager and comes into this fight tomorrow night with no support from his corner. And, you can see it’s had its effects, as his morale is in the shitter!

And why is his morale in the shitter, and why is he without a manager you might ask? Well, that would be because it turns out that Tyson Hunt, his former manager, was none other than one of a handful of multi’s owned by a cheater in the game. A cheater who claimed he was doing it only to support an org he was running, and has been mostly unrepentant about it even after being caught red-handed. But yet, had multiple managers throughout our org here at Sucker Punch as well and allowed multiple fighters from these managers to be in the same divisions in some cases. Now, I was already suspicious, so I had purposely avoided having any I suspected fight each other up to this point. Although, I suspect a couple more, possibly 3-4.

So anyways, he comes in with no morale, and will likely lose. Which is no big deal, as I would have been booting the fighter from the org immediately following this fight.

For Bob, he hopefully manages to get a decent win here. And we hope he’s an up-and-up manager not pulling the multi stuff! Haha. Bob is well rounded with stand up and wrestling skills. He has a 5-4 record, having struggled a little bit to find his consistency with winning as he bounced back and forth between wins and losses in the QFC, until he came here to Sucker Punch and got his first win. He’s going to want to string that together into two in a row, and then continue on from there!

What Bob doesn’t want to have happen is to get taken to the ground. With that white belt in BJJ, he likely won’t defend against a sub well, and that is how Tok got all three of his wins. Tok is very susceptible to the KO or TKO though, so take advantage of that, keep it on the feet, and put the boy on his ass!

Donkey, what say you sir...?

Donkey’s Pick: Bob via TKO (Strikes)

The total lack of morale should prevent Tok from getting this to the ground. One would hope. If it doesn’t go to the ground, he has zero standup skills, so this will end badly for him. As it should.

Welterweight Main Card Bout #1

Igor Vovchanchyn (1-2-0) vs. Red Crow (1-1-0)

Our next bout will feature two very skilled fighters. So much so that normally they’d be higher up on the card, but their hype has not moved the needle enough yet and as an org, well, we have to do the cards in a way that are going to benefit everybody! No doubt though, these two will continue to work the wins and move up the card, but first they stand in each other’s way.

Vovchanchyn is an very well developed fighter who took a loss to Ronnie Bass in the second round of our tournament. For some that was a huge surprise loss, or surprise win by Bass, whichever way you want to look at it! He and Crow both have wonderful Muy Thai, but Vov holds the slight edge in the other primary areas. So the question will be, can Crow overcome those slight deficiencies and use strategy and skill to overcome Vov!

Both of these men are heavy handed, but we also know that Vov lost to Bass due to some serious striking power and a skillfully placed shot by Bass. We also know that Vov can put those hands on you in a serious way as well, as he did against Thanos Reigns with a fantastic KO punch.

Red can stand and strike, but also does some of his best work on the ground with those fists and elbows of his! Will this fight be a repeat of what he did to Thunder in his last match and end via some punishment on the ground for Vov?

Donkey, how about it...?

Donkey’s Pick: Vovchanchyn via TKO (Strikes)

Both of these fighters have some mad skills! While I can’t guarantee much, what I will try to guarantee is that this one ends via strikes. Vov has the more developed skills, and for now I’m going to have to go with that. Both of these gentlemen have very, very good managers in P J Jones and Esiah Xavier, so this is sure to be a battle. Perhaps not a lengthy battle, but a battle! It is very likely that the one who wins this fight WILL be the next in line for a title shot after the first title defense against the runner-up playoff! So again, while not high on the card for tonight, this is a HUGE fight with big implications!

*********

Welterweight CSS Semi-Finals: #2 vs. #14

Malachi Routerhead (2-2-0) vs. John Fuller (2-0-0)

Oooh, and here we go Donkey! Our first of two semi-final matches for the Welterweight Sorter Series tournament! Yes, normally we’d hope to see this as one of the two main events, but we had a few other fighters with more hype between them, and hey, we want to rank these events up there in rating too! It helps us all in the long run.

Fuller has been one of the big surprises in our Sorter Series tournaments, managing to pull off two wins so far, with a huge upset in the second round over Andrey Nikonov! He pulled off a surprise submission victory in that last fight, but something tells me that that may not be the approach he wants to use this time around. With a well rounded build, his sole advantage against a talented Routerhead is with his boxing.

Routerhead will have the clinch, wrestling and definitely BJJ advantage, as he holds a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu. A brown belt that he used to get a submission victory in the last round, showing that he too can submit like Fuller and put that belt of his to use. With the advantage in both ground based disciplines, I don’t know that Fuller wants to mess around with Routerhead on the canvas.

This fight should be an exciting one! Can Fuller pull off another big surprise win? Can he win with his hands standing up? Is Malachi Routerhead just too dominant overall? I can’t wait to get the answers Donkey!

Donkey, you have a pick for us in this one…?

Donkey’s Pick: Routerhead via Submission (Kimura)

I like Fuller and love his come from behind story Donkey! But, I do think that perhaps that run comes to an end tomorrow night. Malachi Routerhead is a “near” complete package, minus the boxing. If this goes to the ground, and I suspect it will, I think Routerhead has a huge advantage unless Fuller can pull one more big surprise out of his…er…hat?

Suzy called over to Fuller’s camp earlier this week and spoke with Yamashita Craven, his manager…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Mr. Craven, so far in this tournament, Fuller has shocked and amazed fans, bringing them to their feet and giving them plenty to talk about. Any more fireworks left?

Yamashita Craven: Routerhead is a good fighter. John may be underprepared/inexperienced to fight a man with Routerhead's skillset, but we've been training hard and hope our game plan will get us a win on July 04th.

Suzy Sucker Punch: Respectful, yet not lacking confidence. Clearly they are focused on what needs to be done and not taking anything for granted over in the Fuller camp boys! This should be a fun fight.

*********

Welterweight Main Card Bout #3

Chaz Campbell (4-1-0) vs. Sean MacCarthy (3-3-0)

Uh oh, I don’t think Donkey’s going to be happy about this! This far into the card for tomorrow night, and here we are with somebody not fully prepared for their fight. MacCarthy is low on morale, at about 60%, and while that’s not on empty, it’s certainly not close to ideal! We’ve seen folks win before with the same or less morale, but more times than not, it’s a bad sign.

Campbell is a boxer and has a definitive advantage in that area with this fight. My guess is he’ll want to come out aggressively, abuse MacCarthy’s lack of confidence and prevent him from building it up, and end this thing before MacCarthy can muster the will to fight back. Campbell comes into this one 4-1, and if he plays his cards right, should be able to walk out with a very, very nice looking 5-1 record. He’s already downed both Tik Tok and Darren Thomson here at Sucker Punch, this would make three in a row and for a 26 year old, now is the time to rack up those wins!

MacCarthy has the wrestling advantage and is also 26 years old. He’s got a split 3-3 record and has done the same since joining Sucker Punch, winning his first fight with Mandinos and then dropping one in the second round of the Sorter Series against DJ Costune. Costune is a dangerous, talented fighter, so there is no shame in that loss. But this is a chance to start getting on the winning side of things, and there is no better time to get going then tomorrow night for MacCarthy. Unfortunately, that morale is going to be an uphill battle, and he too better plan on coming out aggressive if he has any plans to succeed.

Donkey, what do you have…?

Donkey’s Pick: Campbell via TKO (Strikes)

You know me, I always go with the guy who comes in prepared. Well, almost always. But this fight is not the exception. It’s simple as that. I think Campbell prevents the takedowns and ends this one before MacCarthy realizes it’s started. MacCarthy, change those clothes you stinky boy! C’mon man!

Co-Main Event

Welterweight Main Card Bout

Kribbson Johansson (1-1-1) vs. Rebel Sith (7-0-0)

Ahhh yeah, now this is a biggie there Donkey! Two very, very talented fighters, one with limited experience but plenty of tools in Johansson, the other with a sparkling, shiny, impressive 7-0 record there in Sith!!!

This is a fight that will also start determining who may be next in line within a couple months for a shot at the title! The winner of this one will be able to make a STRONG case that they should be looked at very closely when it’s time for the belt to be defended the second or third time, and can you blame them?

Johansson has the boxing tools and a blue belt in BJJ over Sith, while Sith definitely has the Muy Thai advantage. He lost what had to be a disappointing outing against Red Crow last month, getting taken down by strikes right before the bell at the end of Round 1. Previously, he had won in the WCF via submission over Marvin Watts, but if I’m being fair, Watts was an older fighter by 7 years, who, while potentially having the physical advantage, had probably gotten passed by in development by the time they fought. Still, Johansson did exactly what you’re supposed to do, beat the competition in front of you! He also managed to fight to majority draw back in early April in his first professional fight, something you don’t see every day!

Sith has won almost all of his fights via TKO, short one. Most were in the QFC, but his last two were over at HFC and then here at Sucker Punch. He’s proven that even though his MT is the stronger of his skills, he can definitely finish while separated as well. Can he overcome Johansson that way, even though Johansson has the better boxing? Or can he get this to the clinch, prevent a takedown, and really work his magic there, as he’s done against his prior two opponents who were both foolish enough to WANT to go to the clinch with Sith?

This is going to be a fun one Donkey, don’t you think…?

Donkey’s Pick: Sith via TKO (Strikes)

Absolutely! There are a lot of questions to be answered, and we’ll get those answers tomorrow night! It looks like Sith could be in trouble in this one, even with that impressive record, and it would be a shame to see it messed up. However, one thing I do see is that Costune got to Johansson last time and managed to get hands on him, and I think that may be the path for Sith in this one. If Johansson doesn’t get this to the ground, I think Sith comes out with the W.

Main Event

Welterweight CSS Semi-Finals: #4 vs. #8

DJ Costune (2-0-0) vs. Ronnie Bass (5-0-0)

Oh wow, the last fight of the evening tomorrow night, and this one has a lot at stake! First, it’s the semi-finals of the Welterweight Sorter Series, so…winner goes on to a big contract and a chance to become our first champion! But…possibly more than that? I don’t know, you judge…one of these two walks away with a perfect record still intact…and some big time bragging rights. The other…starts the process of stepping back towards the front of the pack and rebounding from a loss for the first time in their career! Now that’s some shit on the line!

Bass’ approach is pretty straightforward. Stand up…move forward, punch you…hard…clinch maybe…and abuse more…if not…still abuse you! It’s just the Bass way! He’ll have a significant advantage in the clinch with his Muy Thai, but has shown he’s plenty dangerous with his boxing even against opponents who have supposedly had more skill there. He has KO power, and has put it on display on more than one occasion, and that should be feared!

Costune can punch and bang as well, and has heavy hands. But he’s also shown he can work the ground, both with GnP as well as a sub if you aren’t paying attention or just don’t have the defense against it! Does he choose to stay standing against a dangerous Bass? He could, and that wouldn’t be overly shocking, but the smart move might be to go where he has the advantage, and has also had success, against his white belt adversary. I’d say he probably tries to get this to the ground, tenderize with the GnP and try to swing the sub when Bass fails to defend. That is, if he can get it to the ground, and if Bass doesn’t try to pound his way back up to the feet!

Donkey, what do you have bud…?

Donkey’s Pick: Bass via KO (Punch)

This is a really, really tough one Donkey! Possibly the most difficult on the card and far more difficult than most to pick. I very much do not want to have to make a pick here. So what am I going to do? I’m going to fall back on the good ole morale/energy concept. Neither are significantly low, but Costune’s morale isn’t quite topped off. So…grasping at straws…I give the edge to Bass due to that! How’s that for trying to escape without really making a decision? Master escape artist, you’re not going to sub me out Hare!

*********

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

There we have it fans! A huge card tomorrow night and a ton of fun with the Welterweights bringing us some big time action down undah at the Bondi Outdoor Arena! I can’t wait to see all the fireworks, and I’m not just talking about the ones I’ll be watching on TV that take place back home in the States for Independence Day! Go get it boys!

Till next time folks…

Post Event Cheap Shots

WElterweight Cockshot Sorter Series: SEMI-Finals

Well hello there Sucker Punch fans! It’s been a heck of a crazy weekend here back in the States, with July 4th, Independence Day weekend and all the fun and craziness that entails. At least, as much fun and craziness as you can have these days in our current Covid environment. For those of you who are in the States or are citizens abroad, hope you had a happy and safe one!

I’m Hare Rumpler and I’m excited to bring you this review of our Welterweight Sorter Series Semi-Final card! I know it’s a few days removed here, but ya gotta live life too and better late than never eh? I’m here with our analyst, Donkey “Dan”, and our brilliant media correspondent, Suzy Sucker Punch and we’re ready to recap all the action from a few nights ago. Suzy will have what amounts to a night off though, as my guess is that with the big weekend coming up most managers had other things on their minds that did not involve talking to her. Wow, that must hurt, Suzy!

So for this card, it was jam-packed full of Welterweight action with no room to spare for other side fights. We had two semi-final bracket battles that determined who moved on to the finals and a chance to be the very first champion for this division here at Sucker Punch, along with eight other divisional bouts.

So let’s get to it after a word about our sponsor and merchandise partner!

http://mmatycoon.com/images/company/logo/1584375781SWN.jpg

Do you find that you’re resting your fighters too often? Two, three, maybe even 4 times a week sometimes? If that’s the case, you’re probably not supplementing their training, and if you are I’m thinking you’re not doing it with Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q, which is Shadow Warrior Nutrition’s outstanding energy loss reduction supplement. It’s the best money can buy and will keep your fighter in the gym training rather than sitting days out resting! Stop on over there today, you will NOT be disappointed!

Now, let's get to it!

Welterweight Undercard Bout #1

LetsAG DAFight Defeats Yamakinme Crazy via TKO (Strikes)

So it’s not often that not only is Donkey wrong on a pick, but that I myself leaned in a direction and was the one that was heading towards being correct! And that’s how we start this Cheap Shots review out this time around, with Donkey having picked Crazy to win this thing, but not quite getting it right. To his credit, it was a war that went on for almost a full three rounds though!

DAFight came out and did exactly what Donkey had said he’d want to do, and that’s prove him wrong! And that he did! DAFight did a little bit of everything in this contest Donkey, even taking it to the clinch several times which is really interesting given we commented on how he had very little skills in the area of Muy Thai! However, despite that, he still got more strikes in in the clinch, specifically using it to tenderize the body of Crazy and wear him down a little bit.

Aside from the clinch, Crazy and DAFight seemed to be on about equal footing when striking, standing apart and delivering a few good ones here and there. But DAFight, as we said, took this fight all over the place and pretty much dictated where the fight would take place. That included on the canvas, where he took the fight three times…putting in some very good GnP down there and improving position at will! He kept Crazy off balance defensively by attempting a couple subs, seemingly just to give him something to think about, but really did the damage with a wicked assault that ended up getting the job done with just a little over a minute remaining in the contest!

Donkey, any more thoughts on this…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Don’t pat yourself on the back too much there Hare, you also said that this fight would remain on the feet, and that couldn’t have been further from what actually happened! DAFight surprised us by taking this one down and utilizing some very effective ground and pound to finish things off. It took a bit to get to Crazy, but eventually he did and got a VERY needed win to finally get into the W column for the first time in his career! This one was huge for DAFight to finally try to turn thing around. Crazy will not be happy with dropping below .500, so expect him to really want to take it out on his next opponent!

Welterweight Undercard Bout #2

Pietro Marchionni Defeats Andrey Nikonov via TKO (Strikes)

Ok, so Donkey gets back on track here with our second fight of the evening. He picked Marchionni by TKO (Strikes) and that’s exactly what Marchionni delivered for him. I say that as if Marchionni specifically did that for Donkey but we all know it was more about improving that record of his to 3-1!

Marchionni has now won all but one fight, and that one was against a guy who could potentially end up being our first divisional champion as Routerhead is now in the Finals, which we’ll get to later in this review. So that’s nothing to hang your head over, for sure! It also makes us wonder if Marchionni will be chomping at the bit for a rematch sooner rather than later if Routerhead does become the champ!

But let’s come back and focus on this fight here. I was a bit shocked to see Nikonov go for a takedown right at the start of this match. I mean, this is a man who has made a living with two wins via the clinch game so far in his career, and here he is taking a guy to the ground who has an advantage over him in wrestling! Sure enough, although Marchionni landed on his back with Nikonov in guard, it didn’t take long for him to reverse the position and start landing a bit of ground and pound for Nikonov’s trouble.

Once Marchionni had the dominant position in this one though, there really was no looking back and Nikonov was in trouble until he managed to escape back to his feet via a referee standup. Unfortunately, that only lasted about a half minute or so before Marchionni took him right back to the mat, having decided he kinda liked that advantage down there! A bit more abuse from strikes and elbows delivered by Marchionni and it wasn’t long before a big shot landed and Nikonov was covering up, unable to defend himself effectively, with the ref jumping in for the save!

Nice call Donkey, anything else to say here…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Marchionni’s wrestling and grappling skills turned out to be the difference maker as we pointed to in the preview. For me, that was a bit too much possibly to overcome, and a combination of skills that were key for this matchup. The key here was for Nikonov to take advantage of the clinch where he had the advantage and try to prevent any takedowns. It was shocking then to see him actually initiate the very first one!

Welterweight Undercard Bout #3

Kahdi Mandinos Defeats Rayne Dame via Submission (Armbar)

For us, Donkey and I both thought that having this one go to the ground would be Dame’s worst nightmare. Sure enough, about a half minute in Mandinos landed his second takedown attempt and three sub attempts later, this thing was all over!

I wish I had more to stay about this contest, but really, that’s about all there is to say. It wasn’t all that exciting a fight, I mean, for the entire second minute of the fight it was Mandinos controlling position and Dame attempting to escape once. Other than that, a lot of lay and pray, and to be honest, I’m shocked the ref didn’t step in and stand them up during that minute of boredom!

The third minute is what brought us back to some action, with Mandinos going for his second and finally third successful sub attempts. This was a contest that literally involved three strike attempts from Dame, one takedown by Mandinos, three attempts to improve position by Dame as well as one successful one by Mandinos, and three sub attempts. That was it. I echo the fans in attendance…Boooooo! Booooooo I say! HAHAHAHA!

What are your thoughts there Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Dame had the advantage in age here, but you have to figure that about this point in these guy’s development, that age advantage is going to start to fall off, as the younger fighters start to surpass them. Unfortunately for Dame, he has failed to prove that he can win outside the QFC. He was recently given a contract extension along with the majority of folks in the division, but if he can’t come up with a win soon I could possibly see his road coming to a dead end at Sucker Punch. Let’s hope that isn’t the case. For Mandinos, he did what he had to do and moves to two wins in a row, so it’s time to see what he has against better competition as he climbs the ladder!

Welterweight Undercard Bout #4

Luka Marka Defeats Thanos Reigns via TKO (Strikes)

Well, he did it Donkey! He proved us both correct! I’m talking about Luka Marka, who showed us his best impression one of those gavel thingamajiggy things you use to pound out veal or chicken, just like I said he would! Yep, a gavel thingamajiggy, I think they’ve now adopted that as a technical term for it!

Anyways, if the powers that be need a visual aid in helping to understand what one of those thingamajiggy’s does, well, look no further than this contest. It lasted all of 45 seconds, including the time it took for Marka to complete a takedown, initiate phase one, more commonly known as “tenderizing” and then after blowing off a halfhearted kimura attempt, finish with phase two, better know as “smashing”.

Reigns has a really tough road ahead of him at this point, having lost two QFC fights before joining us at Sucker Punch, and now having dropped four of five. And that one win was against a poor bastard whose manager had abandoned him for 18 days prior to the fight. Things are looking very dark and cloudy for this man unless he can win in his next fight!

Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Let’s not take anything away from Marka here. He goes on a 3 fight win streak now, with a perfect record at 3-0. And that’s pretty cool. He continues to win via his standard protocol method which is to take you down and put you through pain. He did it again, and we’ll see if he can do it next time as well! For Reigns, yes, he’s had a tough road, and much like Dame in the last contest, he has to be realizing that the opportunities are starting to slip away. Some of the more talented folks in the 360k+ range are starting to step up, and catch up, and soon, spots will start to be taken over by those kids most likely. Or more talented fighters from other orgs who make a jump here and there. That’s not hating on anybody, that’s just pure truth!

Welterweight Undercard Bout #5

Whaddaboutt Bob Defeats Tik Tok via TKO (Strikes)

Good boy Bob! We told Bob to go out there and put Tok on his ass…and not only did he do just that, but he did it in record time in 8 seconds! Very nice. Tok was previously managed by John Welsh…er, wait, I mean…one of John Welsh’s many multi’s, but had no management at the time of this fight. His morale was crap and he was ripe for a loss prior to being cut from his contract following this fight.

Bob took advantage and cleaned up for us, the way he should have. Well done sir, well done. My only question is…how in the heck did he manage to fake a head punch, go in low, and then follow that up with three or four other shots…all in 8 seconds?!? Holy hands of speed Batman!

Not a lot more to say here. Bob moves to 6-4, and will now get a chance to go after some higher level competition as he moves up the ladder and ranks. Good luck!

How about it Donkey...?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

There’s nothing else for me to say. A win that Bob should have gotten and he did. A loss that Tok should have gotten and he did. All is right in the world…for now. Go get ready for bigger and better things Bob!

Welterweight Main Card Bout #1

Igor Vovchanchyn vs. Red Crow (Majority Draw)

Well, Donkey was right, he was wrong, and he was right! How’s that for being all over the place? He was right that Vovchanchyn would win this fight. He was wrong that it was going to end via a finish though! As he said, “Both of these fighters have some mad skills! While I can’t guarantee much, what I will try to guarantee is that this one ends via strikes.” Well, this one went to the judges, and not even just to the judges, but to a majority draw! What a fight, what a war! This one definitely got Fight of the Night honors.

Oh, and yeah, he was right about one of these guys probably being in line for a title shot. They just have to win their next fights and they should be right there. Wow. As Donkey said, Mad Skills on display in this one. In the first round, these two went at it for over three minutes before Crow finally went for a takedown. At that point, Vov scored a reversal and got a submission attempt in there. It didn’t finish obviously, but set a tone that he wouldn’t be pushed around on the ground that easily.

Second round, and Crow decides to put it on the ground in a different way, scoring a knockdown with a big overhand right and then managed to rock Vov shortly after, also managing to further damage a cut he’d given Vov earlier in the fight. I think the entire crowd at the arena, including us Donkey, were on the edge of our seat thinking that Crow was going to end this thing!

However, not only did Vov manage to recover a bit, he fended off Crow further with a sub attempt again, buying himself enough time for a full recovery…followed by another sub attempt close to the end of the second minute of action in the round. Crow piled on some more GnP though, and opened that cut further, starting to make us think that if he didn’t finish this via strikes…or Vov didn’t catch a sub…that this might get stopped by the doctors instead! Another sub attempt a bit later, some more GnP from Crow, and a reversal left this thing in the hands of Round 3.

Round 3 saw over three and a half minutes of these two just bashing on one another, toe to toe, pure evil intentions on both of their parts! Close to four minutes in, Crow decided to take it to the ground again…and was laying on some beautiful GnP right up to the end! Credit to both these men!

A good one, eh Donkey...?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

This is the type of fight that just about screams “rematch!”. But that will have to wait for another day and time, as we want to see who can do what against a couple of other guys in the division to see just who stands where on the ladder. But certainly, both of these guys made a case that they should be in the conversation for next in line!

Welterweight CSS Semi-Finals: #2 vs. #14

Malachi Routerhead Defeats John Fuller via Submission (Triangle Armbar)

Our first of two semi-final matches for the Welterweight Sorter Series tournament here and I wish I could say there were some fireworks and surprises, but there really weren’t. Well, for the most part there weren’t.

The one surprise in this one is that contrary to what we thought might be Fuller’s best shot at winning this, he was the first to initiate a takedown. While he has won via submissions and used his ground game well in the past, we just felt that Routerhead’s overall ground game was going to be very, very difficult for Fuller to overcome.

Sure enough, that proved to be true, as Fuller did Routerhead a favor in some ways when he took this thing to the ground. It only took Routerhead two sub attempts, one for an armbar that failed, but then a triangle converted to an armbar that finished the job! I would have loved to see what might have happened if Fuller tried to use his boxing and win this fight on his feet Donkey, I don’t know that it would have ultimately ended differently, but I think perhaps Fuller might have given himself more of a shot.

Routerhead will undoubtedly give his opposition in the final as much as they can handle, as this is a young fighter with a ton of talent and an ability to find a way to win!

Donkey, anything else…?

Donkey’s Pick: Routerhead via Submission (Kimura)

Well, we did say ahead of time that we thought that Fuller’s amazing run would potentially come to an end in this match. Sure enough, that proved to be true. Routerhead had two losses in QFC prior to joining us here at Sucker Punch, but now has moved through the first three rounds of this tournament with relative ease, proving he will be a tough customer in the finals!

Welterweight Main Card Bout #3

Chaz Campbell Defeats Sean MacCarthy via Unanimous Decision

The surprising part of this next match is that MacCarthy came into this thing with somewhat low morale. Yet…he still managed to go the distance for a Decision loss, which is actually a bit impressive. Not the loss, but not getting finished with his confidence low coming in.

Campbell was very effective when on his feet, landing most if not all of his single strike attempts and a good percentage of his combos. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem he has the ability to mix in any kicks at this time. When this finally did get taken to the ground, which was going to happen if Campbell didn’t finish it early, he was able to fend off a good portion of the attach from MacCarthy and throw in a few sub attempts here and there to keep MacCarthy on his guard.

For MacCarthy, he was aggressive on the ground, doing some decent GnP damage and really owning most of the second round, although one of the judges felt like Campbell won that one also, probably due to being on top for a while and keeping busy with the sub attempts.

Ultimately the judges decided that Campbell showed them enough to win it, unanimously taking Rounds 1 and 3 and getting the big W, moving him to 5-1 on his career!

Donkey, what do you have…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Well, I’ll never go with a guy who’s significantly down on morale or energy, and MacCarthy was low on morale coming in. However, I did say this would get ended early by Campbell, and to MacCarthy’s credit, he proved me wrong on that. Way to show some heart young man! He still goes to 3-4 though and will want to bounce back strong. Perhaps he could have had this one with full morale? We’ll never know! Maybe, or maybe Campbell’s granite chin and resilience would have proven too much regardless…?

Welterweight Main Card Bout

Kribbson Johansson Defeats Rebel Sith via KO (Punch)

We knew that this was a very, very good matchup going in, didn’t we Donkey? Sith has a great record, and no, it’s not some phony joke of a record that’s been padded with cans. So one couldn’t have been blamed if they thought that this was a slam dunk for Sith and Kribbson was going to go down, again, after he’d just taken a loss in the prior month.

Turns out, Kribbson had something to say about all of that! Sith never even made an attempt to clinch up, which is where we thought he’d have the advantage. Now, it may be that the opportunity just didn’t present itself, or perhaps he just decided to really test his striking going toe to toe with Johansson. But that’s what these two did, as they stood and banged Donkey!

Sith was actually holding his own, being the more aggressive fighter but perhaps holding back on the damagefor more accuracy. Clearly though, Kribbson had the damage turned up, maybe not all the way, but certainly enough…as Sith came into range just past a minute into this thing, but Johansson used some fancy footwork there, stepped to the side and plastered Sith with a brilliant hook that sent Sith out like a light…sleeping on the floor like my kids used to do, camel humping, ass up in the air, just passed out where they happened to be at the time.

Sith won’t like the replayed images and highlights of this one, but that’s what it became as Johansson took home KO of the Night for his efforts!

Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

I couldn’t have been more wrong on how I thought this was going to go guys! I thought Johansson was going to win this on the ground and I also thought that Sith was going to rule on the feet. Neither of those happened, although as you said, Sith was definitely getting a fair amount of shots through. Great outing by Johansson, he’ll walk away with more swagger than before and a case that the last fight should be overlooked. For Sith, his shiny perfect record is now tarnished, but a great chance to find what he can take away from this one and come back strong!

Welterweight CSS Semi-Finals: #4 vs. #8

Ronnie Bass Defeats DJ Costune via KO (Punch)

Our last fight of the evening, and this was the last of our two semi-final matches in the Welterweight Sorter Series tournament. Two undefeated young warriors squared up in the ring and decided to see just who deserved that shot at being the first champion of this division folks!

And Donkey, wow…way to finish the night! You called the winner, and the way of going about it, KO Punch! Nice call bud. This one went a little over three minutes in the first, but Bass seemed to take control almost from the start. He was solid in standup, although better when in the clinch, which was something he was able to lock up and get into pretty much at will.

Costune went heavy on the combos in this one, and unfortunately for him Bass was up to the task of avoiding those with his striking defense. Ultimately, Costune was only able to land three combos and a single head shot before this one was all over. Now, that’s not to say that he didn’t have a shot, we’ve all seen the power Costune can put behind those punches, and it only takes the one from him to land right and end the other guy’s night.

Also, while Bass definitely excelled in the clinch, credit to Costune for being able to fend off those vicious elbows, with not a single one of the six landing. In the end, it was one of those combo heavy attempts that led to Costune’s undoing, as he missed and came up with nothing for his troubles except a good left from Bass that rocked him, his legs clearly rubber under him. One glance at the clock to see if he would be able to get a breather with the help of a bell was all it took for Bass to step in and ring it for him with a huge right, and that was all she wrote baby!

Donkey, what do you have bud…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

I fell back on energy to make a decision in this one, but that didn’t come into play after all. Neither man was overly tired, it just came down to who landed them and who landed them harder! Impressive showing by Bass as he goes 6-0 and moves on to the Finals, where he may very well become the first Sucker Punch Welterweight champion for our org. That is unless Routerhead has something to say about it! For Costune, unfortunately he now goes to 2-1, but he walk away knowing that he lost to one of the best in the division, and has a lot of time to come back and stake his claim! Heck, if he can win the semi-final loser’s grudge match, we may see this matchup one more time!

Suzy Sucker Punch: Right after the fight ended, Andrew Wittig walked by our boy’s table and yelled over, “Ronnie Bass said to tell Donkey, ‘How bout them apples?’”. Clearly they wanted to set Donkey straight that he should continue picking Bass going forward!

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

A really good one, with some big finishes at the end and some high energy action all night long! I hope you enjoyed this evening of Welterweight fun and we’ll see you next time! I know we’re excited to see what the next card brings and in the end, who will represent this division…Bass or Routerhead?

Till then folks…

Tonight’s event will take place at one of my favorite venues, Donkey, the very fun Bondi Outdoor Arena! Now, we’re getting very close to the time where it’s going to get a little too cold down undah to keep that Arena open, so we’re going to have to close the bubble at some point over it if we keep using it, but damn, there’s nothing like watching up and coming stars…fight it out under the stars man!

So without further delay, let’s hear from our merchandise partner and sponsor and then get on with the preview!

Now, let's get to it!

Light Heavyweight Undercard Bout #1

James Link (0-2-0) vs. Some Body (0-4-0)

I can tell you without a doubt, right off the bat here, that Donkey will NOT be happy about this match. For a number of reasons! It’s a good thing we get it out of the way early so maybe I can tolerate him by the end of the evening folks!

The main reason he won’t be happy is because this fight sees James Link go up against Some Body, both of whom come into this fight with almost zero morale going for them. Nada. Zilch. No confidence, no focus, no preparation of the mind for the battle that should be about to take place this evening! It’s an interesting conundrum though, Donkey usually goes against the guy who comes in unprepared, but what does he do when BOTH come in that way, equally?

The other thing that’s not going to thrill him is that James Link also comes into this fight sans manager. Well, technically he has a manager, but the dude hasn’t been around for 19 days now, so I think it’s safe to say he’s without one. Given how long he’s been gone, I’m going to go under the assumption his strategy may still be set the same as his last fight.

This is also Link’s first (and last mind you, since we’ll be cutting him afterward) fight with us here at Sucker Punch. What a way to make an impression…er…not. In his last fight, Link tended to use a lot of clinch to work his way towards takedowns. Once there though, he seemed to have almost zero idea what he wanted to accomplish and simply escaped back to his feet most times, rinse, repeat. It’s no wonder he lost. He was also defeated prior to that in a QFC fight by my very own Sacrificial Lamb, Donkey! How about that! A fight we were actually trying to lose, I might add, to test morale…but instead finished via TKO in under two minutes.

Body is managed by Dillon Weber and comes into this with an 0-4 record, still seeking his first win. If he plays his cards right, he should be able to walk away with that first win tonight, despite being empty on morale. He has the distinct advantage in standup, so he should be going into this with a similar approach used by Lamb against Link. Stand up, watch out for the takedown attempts, score your points with your striking, walk away a winner! Ding Ding Ding, Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner baby! Now, somebody go get dinner!

Donkey, what’s your call bud…?

Donkey’s Pick: Some Body via TKO (Strikes)

My god Hare, could you go on and on and on any longer about a fight that doesn’t mean a lot? I mean, sure, for Some Body, this could be the start of a turnaround. But this fight won’t be looked at in a big way later, only a streak of wins starting with this one. And yes, it annoys me to no end that these two both have no morale. Come on people, change your boy’s clothes!!!

Light Heavyweight Undercard Bout #2

Adam Webber (1-5-0) vs. Bruce Li (0-6-0)

Ok, if we thought the last fight was going to upset Donkey…well…this one would have upset Donkey…if it was a fight. But unfortunately, I have a strong feeling that this one is not even going to happen. It seems Mr. Wang Li, Bruce’s manager, has gone AWOL for the past 9 days. He hasn’t rested his fighter so he’s coming in at about 25% energy tonight. Which, btw, doesn’t leave him with enough to cut the weight he needs to cut to make 205. So much so, that he’s over 6 lbs off right now, and you can pretty much guarantee it won’t happen.

Now, I have to tell you, Donkey may not like this, but this actually royally pisses me off! Because we try really hard to put together some great fights here at Sucker Punch, we try to keep it as interesting and entertaining as possible, and frankly, not that I’m asking for any kind of recognition on this, but we put a lot of effort in for our managers. We really do. So now, this is going to screw up the card and probably cause a lousy event rating that will hurt the org and everybody in it. Not cool to us, not cool to the fans, and certainly not cool to your opponent who gets left without a fight!

If this fight did by some miracle happen, it would feature Li, who is 0-6 and very much needs a win. He’s a ground based fighter but hasn’t been able to put the skills together yet to find his way into the win column. With mediocre wrestling and a purple belt in BJJ, certainly the skills are there, they just have to be used, and the fighter just needs to get a fair shot with attention from his manager.

Webber is 1-5 and also seriously needs a clothing change. Actually, quite a few of them, back to back, day after day, until the morale is up again. Fight now, it’s at what looks to be about 35-40%. Not good enough. Well, it would be tonight, against a fighter completely and totally unprepared, but normally, no, not good enough. Get that morale up over 90% at least man! He’s primarily a boxer, but his one win so far came thanks to his blue belt in Jiu Jitsu, with an armbar submission victory over Thicc Nation back when he was with Checkmate. Last fight, he was finished by Soons Sam via TKO, and has lost via TKO four times, and once via KO. So if this fight were to go off, he’d want to be sure to watch that chin and score when he can!

Donkey, I’m afraid to ask, but what have you got…?

Donkey’s Pick: No Contest

I’ve got a lack of respect for these managers who don’t come prepared, that’s what I’ve got. Let’s just move on to the next fight and hope that from here on out, the rest of this card makes us completely and totally forget about these first two fights!

*********

Light Heavyweight Undercard Bout #3

Joe Junior (1-1-0) vs. Karol Krawczyk (2-3-0)

Ok…breath there Donkey. Yes, one of these guys isn’t totally prepared either…but hey, at least the fight will happen, and it’s not horribly, horrendously unprepared. We’re getting better here, at least slowly, little by little man! So yeah, this next fight features Joe Junior, who is 1-1 with both fights having been fought here at Sucker Punch standing opposite Karol Krawczyk, currently 2-3 and making his Sucker Punch debut.

Krawczyk comes into this one at about 60% morale, so he’s going to need to build his confidence quickly in this fight if he wants to really stand a chance of bringing home the W. He’s a boxer with a blue belt inBJJ. He is on a bit of a roll of late, with his last two fights at Conquest being the two wins he has on his record, one via a submission victory and then the last via KO! That means Junior is going to have to figure out what the best way to attack is, and being that Krawczyk has won standing up and on the ground, it’ll be that much more challenging to figure out!

Junior is the better boxer and wrestler in this contest. His sole win to date came in his last fight against Michael Rubio and went the distance, with the judges giving it unanimously to Junior. Junior landed an extremely high percentage of his strikes with the hands in that fight, although his kicks were less effective but nonetheless probably served their purpose in mixing things up. It was surprising that Junior tried for eight total takedowns though, given that when he was on the ground, he spent most of his time simply working for an escape, which he was very effective in doing. We’ll have to see if he’s willing to go to the ground again in this one and test his wrestling advantage combined with equivalent belt in BJJ against Krawczyk, or if he decides to focus more on standing and boxing this time out!

Donkey, what say you sir...?

Donkey’s Pick: Junior via TKO (Strikes)

I almost never go with the guy who is down on energy or morale, and I’m not going to do it this time either. My gut says that Joe Junior and his manager, Sc Tiurpe, are starting to figure out what works for Junior and what doesn’t with these first few fights. They’ll continue to refine the approach, and I think tonight ends up being a step forward in that regard. Look for Joe to win this one via strikes either on the ground or standing, but via strikes one way or the other.

*********

Light Heavyweight Undercard Bout #4

Soons Sam (1-0-0) vs. Leon Chaster (5-3-0)

Another one where the morale comes in low! That seems to be a theme tonight. Donkey won’t be thrilled, but morale has proven to not be the end of the world when it comes to these fights. I think Donkey’s probably been wrong on that about a third of the time, if I were to guess. I’d have to go back and look. Maybe I’ll do that later this week!

Soons Sam is 1-0 in his young career, with that win coming here at Sucker Punch last month. We mentioned it was against Adam Webber in the preview just before this. In that fight, he worked the takedowns and ground game to then initiated “Protocol: Pain”. Yep, GnP, and it didn’t take a lot of it before he had the ref coming in to save Webber. Those strikes were vicious though, and while he didn’t land a ton on Webber, the ones he did land were brutal and did a ton of damage. Nobody would want to take too much of that abuse!

I will say this…while that worked for Sam last fight, he may not want to come in with the exact same strategy in this one. Much like Sam, Chaster has a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu also, but his is geared towards submissions. He has a 5-3 record to date, and four of those five victories have come via submission! If I were Sam, I wouldn’t want to go to that kitchen. I think I’d stand and try to win with my boxing and Muy Thai advantages in this one. For Chaster though, the plan looks pretty straightforward. Get to the ground, and start working on position for those subs while mixing in a few shots here and there to keep the opponent thinking about other things!

Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Sam via TKO (Strikes)

Well, I think I’m going to surprise you for a change here Hare! No, I’m not going against my morale and energy stance on this one, so I’m not going with Chaster for my pick. But…I’m calling the TKO via Strikes on the ground. I think Sam stays with his plan, holds confidence that he can hold off those submissions, and instead get into position on top to initiate enough strikes to take Chaster out. But darn, he better have some excellent defensive grappling, because if he doesn’t, yeah, he’s going to get subbed out down there!

Light Heavyweight Undercard Bout #5

Hemmo Karhu (1-1-0) vs. John Popeye (1-2-0)

Blah blah blah, one of these guys is low on morale, blah blah blah…yeah, I know, I sound like a broken record. I’m beginning to think that something’s going on here, like Groundhog Day weird going on. WTH? Anyways, yeah, Popeye comes into this about half full of morale and confidence. Blah blah, Donkey won’t be happy, blah blah, why don’t people change their clothes, blah blah blah, they aren’t listening to me anyways! Hahaha!

Karhu will have a distinct advantage in this one due to that morale issue that Popeye has going on. So if he works this properly, comes in with a good game plan and executes, he should be able to walk out of here tonight with the win and a streak of two, which is the start of something man! Karhu has the Jiu Jitsu advantage in this fight with his brown belt and put those skills on display in his last fight when he finished Some Body in the first round via an armbar submission. He’ll probably want to do the exact same thing tonight against Popeye…but…

…he better be careful. Popeye may only have a white belt in BJJ, but his wrestling is superior and he used that in his single win last fight to get to the ground, hold off submissions by Jestoni Hawk, and then win via strikes with his nasty ground and pound! Now, the difference there was that Hawk was a blue belt in BJJ with only feeble wrestling. Karhu doesn’t have any better wrestling, but that belt in BJJ is significant. If I were Popeye, I’d seriously consider keeping this one on the feet, and staying aggressive to counter that lack of morale. However, I have a feeling that may not be what happens, and if this gets to the ground, it may not be pretty.

Donkey, you have a pick for us in this one…?

Donkey’s Pick: Karhu via Submission (Kimura)

That morale is going to be an issue in this fight for sure. Why am I more convinced of that than I normally am? Because this fight involves guys who typically try to go to the ground, and specifically an opponent who REALLY wants to be there. And one area I see that morale and confidence play in a lot seems to be with the ability to hold off being taken down. If Popeye takes this to the ground, or lets it get taken there by Karhu, this is going to end in submission. I’ll be shocked if not.

Light Heavyweight Main Card Bout #1

Ali Hasanov (6-2-0) vs. Mike Bard (1-1-0)

Alright! Now we’re talking Donkey! We head into the top of the card here, and what do I have for you my man? I have two warriors who are prepared for battle bud! There ya go man, see, your faith in humanity is restored! Hahaha. But yeah, I’m totally thrilled to let everybody know that these guys are all set, full gas tanks, morale on high, ready to get at it!

Hasanov was on a heck of a streak coming in to Sucker Punch, he’d won his last four fights in QFC prior to joining us, then came in and won his first fight in the Sorter Series against Bruce Li. Strangely though, he fell flat in his fight against my own Sacrificial Lamb last month in the second round of the Sorter Series, and really just didn’t seem to be able to find his way in that fight. Lamb dominated him from start to finish, and it was very…un-Hasanov like to be honest. I fully expect him to bounce back and find his way again tonight with a solid outing. He’s a well-rounded fighter with respectable boxing, strong wrestling and a blue belt in BJJ. He’s won with both the hands and submissions in the past, so he can be dangerous all over.

His opponent will be Mike Bard, who has both won and lost via submission in his 1-1 career. He simply came up against a more skilled BJJ artist in his last fight against Titus Fury when he got knocked out of the Sorter Series in the second round. Tonight, your guess is as good as ours what he might try to do. He could try to win this in standup, possibly via the clinch where he has the advantage…or he could go back to the bread and butter and try his chances on the ground against a guy who has the better wrestling. It’ll be really interesting to see which way he goes, or, for that matter, if he can dictate where it goes in the first place!

Donkey, what are you thinking…?

Donkey’s Pick: Bard via Submission (Armbar)

You know, on paper this one looks like a win for Hasanov. But I have a strange feeling about this one. Bard may be able to work his magic on the ground, and get that submission. Just maybe. And Hasanov’s lackluster performance in the last fight was probably an anomaly, but maybe not as well. So until he turns it around again, something in my gut is telling me to take Bard!

Light Heavyweight CSS Round 2: #1 vs. #9

Steven Jones (1-4-0) vs. Naizen Kamenashi (5-2-0)

Donkey, our next fight brings two newcomers to Sucker Punch into our cage tonight to face one another! Both come from over at HFC, so this is I guess sort of a “see what you’ve got with the new toys” contest! Haha. Not that I’m referring to these fine gentlemen as toys or anything. It’s not like that at all. I’m not like that. Not that there’d be anything wrong with me if I was, but…oh hell, frig, forget it, ok? Let’s just move on!

Jones is a 20 year old fighter out of Amsterdam who is 1-3 so far in his career. His last two fights at HFC resulted in losses, and his sole win comes from the fight just before that while he was with Core Combat. He won that fight via TKO, but he’s also been KO’d twice and TKO’d once. So clearly, he both lives and dies via that standup, banging away and seeing where it goes! Unfortunately so far it’s gone more the other way, so he’ll want to start changing that come tonight!

The man who will want to have a thing or two to say about that is none other than 21 year old Naizen Kamenashi. He’s a year older and has been training longer, yet on paper Jones looks like he may have the fundamental primary advantage. What Kamenashi does have that Jones doesn’t though is a proven record of being able to win via finishes fairly consistently, and in some of the most exciting ways possible! His last two fights at HFC both saw him win with Head Kick knockouts, which you know always gets the fans into a frenzy! He also has two more wins the same way from earlier in his career, and another win via Submission…which seems to be a strange outlier!

I’m torn on this one Donkey! What about you, what do you have…?

Donkey’s Pick: Kamenashi via KO (Head Kick)

On paper, it certainly does look like Jones has the advantage, despite the losing record. Also, Jones has a granite chin, so wow, will we get to see just how much that chin can take tonight? Kamenashi has won four times via Head Kick, and let me tell you something, I love a finish like that and so would the fans. So while I’m not rooting for one guy or another, I do hope there are some fireworks in this one! This is a dangerous fight for both of these kids, and they better come ready to focus and not take their opponent lightly!

Light Heavyweight CSS Semi-Finals: #6 vs. #15

Wille Thai (2-0-0) vs. Marat Mustafaev (4-5-0)

We’re getting into some big ones here Donkey, and none on the card will be bigger than this one as we have two Light Heavyweight Sorter Series Semi-Finalists face off for a chance to go to the Finals and potentially become our first ever champion for the division! And if I remember correctly Donkey, I believe there was some jawing going on from Thai after the event last month regarding this upcoming contest…and who he wouldn’t be facing due to a surprising drop out, which we’ll get to in a second! So hopefully that energy carries over into a great fight tonight.

Thai is 2-0 in his career, both fights so far having been here in this Sorter Series tournament. He faced, and defeated, some solid competition previously in Joe Junior and Dougie Mcphee, both via submissions. He has a purple belt in BJJ and very strong wrestling, and clearly knows how to use that combo to get the job done! Tonight, surprisingly, he will not be facing off against the winner from Round 2…as Harold Kerzner surprisingly decided he wanted to spend his time training rather than continuing on in the tournament even after earning a trip to the Semi-Finals! Instead, he’ll see Marat Mustafaev move forward and fill the spot, even though he fell to Kerzner.

Marat’s manager was more than willing to let his boy have another shot and go take his chances at moving on, and we have to love that! He’s primarily a standup and Muy Thai fighter who managed to take it the distance and win via decision over Jaxon Hiatt in the first round of the Sorter Series. From my perspective, his path to victory is very clear tonight. Keep this on the feet, use his hands effectively, and if he decides to take it to the clinch where he has the definitive advantage, focus on delivery the punishment while staying on guard and preventing the takedown. If he gets dragged to the ground, this thing becomes a real issue…really fast.

Donkey, which way do you think this one swings…?

Donkey’s Pick: Thai via Submission (Guillotine)

Here’s what I think, and the pick is no shame on Marat. I honestly think Marat is going to come out focused and ready to go, and I love that both of these guys are energized and have their confidence on high. And I think that Marat may even have some success in the clinch, with an outside chance that if he can get enough punishment in there early and wear Thai down, he could start to have this thing roll his way. But…I think Thai’s skills may overcome it and this ends up on the ground. And when it does, it probably won’t take long until we see Thai’s arm being raised in victory. I would not, however, be surprised if he has to potentially put Mustafaev to sleep in this one to win it, because I think Marat is hungry, energized by a second chance tonight and won’t give up until he isn’t given a choice! There is a very strong chance that Mustafaev may be facing the future champ of this division tonight, so he has his work cut out for him.

Co-Main Event

Light Heavyweight Bout

Dougie Mcphee (3-1-0) vs. Aleks Kuznetsov (1-0-0)

For our Co-Main event, we get to see two fighters face off who frankly are just a couple of beasts!

Dougie Mcphee is a 24 year old Scot who is now based in Sydney. He’s got a very solid 3-1 record and was ousted in Round 2 of the Sorter Series by Wille Thai via armbar submission. Prior to that, he had victories in Round 1 via KO and a TKO victory in the QFC, preceeded by a decision victory also in the QFC. He’s an excellent wrestler and probably would have been able to do quite a bit of nasty work on Kuzenetsov tonight on the ground, except…his manager has now been missing for quite a while. So long in fact that it’s unfortunate that we may have to let Mcphee go after this fight.

Kuznetsov is 1-0 in his career so far and makes his Sucker Punch debut with us tonight at the Bondi Outdoor Arena! His sole victory to date was a TKO win over Robert Shafer in the QFC, where he won in just over two minutes. Here’s what I want to know Donkey…that armor he’s wearing in his picture looks fairly snug and fitting, yet…I look at Kuznetsov, and I don’t think of “lean” as a word I’d use for this behemoth of a man! So what gives? Do they have to like shrink wrap that armor around him or something?!? Anyways, sorry, I get easily distracted sometimes! Ha. Kuzie, as I like to call him, has wonderful boxing and a solid set of Muy Thai skills. He’s likely going to want to keep this on the feet and delivery the pain one punch after the other…and possibly with a few elbows thrown in for good measure if he can get into the clinch!

Donkey, your thoughts…?

Donkey’s Pick: Kuznetsov via TKO (Strikes)

My thoughts? My thoughts are that I’d absolutely LOVE to hear you call Aleks Kuznetsov “Kuzie” while he’s within earshot! Seriously, I double dog dare you Hare. That said, Kuznetsov has some serious striking skills and I think we get to see the continued maturation of those skills inside the cage tonight as he continues on his trek up the ladder. Mcphee is definitely talented, and if he gets it to the ground he’ll have the advantage, but it’s unlikely that he’s game planned well for this one due to his manager being away.

Main Event

Featherweight CSS Round 2: #5 vs. #9

Titus Fury (7-0-0) vs. Sacrificial Lamb (3-1-0)

Our final and Main Event of the evening tonight is in this spot solely due to the amount of combined hype+pop that the fight has. However, I’m going to flat out say, there are SO many things about this fight that make me uncomfortable Donkey. First, it involves one of my own guys…in the Main Event. That makes me uncomfortable to start. Then…there’s the fact that this is the Semi-Finals, and I don’t even like the idea of one of my own guys being in this position, even a little bit. So…let’s get that out of the way right now, and keep it in mind a bit, because there may have to be some dealing with that potentially.

Now, as for the matchup, Sacrificial Lamb and Titus Fury have crossed paths before! It was during a QFC tournament that Fury went on to win under former manager Action Jackson. He bounced Lamb from that tourney in the second round via a guillotine finish! Ouch. I’m not proud to say that he did it by making Lamb tap out…and I’m really not proud to say that he did it in 38 seconds! Since then, Fury has won all of his fights with the exception of his first here at Sucker Punch via submission. His last being against Mike Bard in Round 2 via Kimura. So yes, we know what Fury is about, he has very good wrestling and a purple belt in BJJ that he uses…very, very well.

Fury’s current manager, A.j. Walter, has not missed a beat in keeping his streak alive! With one exception, Donkey. His morale! How, might you ask, does his morale get to about 10% or so with a 7-0 winning streak? Well, my guess would be that his current manager has let his clothing get to the point where he can sub you out via choke…on the obnoxious fumes from the clothing, if you can call the tatters that are left clothing! It’s time for a change man!

For Lamb, this one doesn’t look good. You would think this fight is going to probably go about the same as the last time they met. Now, that morale could come into play. Could. But maybe not. Lamb will try to stand and box. He’ll try to keep this one from going to the ground, and if it does go there, he’ll hope that his training of defensive grappling and escapes will save his sorry ass!

Donkey, how do you see our Main Event shaking out…?

Donkey’s Pick: Fury via Submission (Armbar)

I don’t like that morale there for Fury, not one bit Hare. I really do not. But, his win over Lamb was decisive last time, so I’d be a fool to pick against it this time. But…that morale. Lamb could pull this one out, and if he does, it puts you in a difficult position, as you should NOT be vying for the championship in your own organization. So, if by some miracle you get past Fury with Lamb, you’re going to have a tough choice to make…move Fury on anyway to the finals…or take your shot, assuming Lamb can’t win in the Final. One thing I know you won’t do, is you won’t throw a fight. Back out of one for the sake of the org, yes, but not throw one! Good luck to both of these kids!

*********

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

Sorry this one is much later coming out and so very close to the actual event. Was catching up yesterday on the Review for the Welterweights and it’s been a long day at work today! Anyways, I’m excited for the fights tonight, once they finally kick into gear after the first couple of duds…and I hope you all enjoy this as much as we enjoy putting it together for you!

Enjoy the action folks, and till next time…

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series 355k+ style!

" I have nothing to lose." Rey Bargos walks into the arena for his weigh in.

" One hundred and fifty five pounds for Bargos." The Athletic commissioner says as Rey steps off the scale.

Bargos gets dressed and makes his way down to the media for questions. Instead of waiting for questions Rey takes the microphone and begins to speak.

" This tournament is everything to me, I shouldn't be here right now. My brother lasted one year in this sport, going 2-3 and realizing he wasn't built for this sport. I am sitting at 0-3 and this fight with Conor Notorious is my shot. If I fail then I walk away for good. I've spent the last few months training to be the best version of myself. Tomorrow night you get the best version of me, win or lose."

Post Event Cheap Shots

Light Heavyweight Cockshot Sorter Series: Semi-Finals

Hello again Sucker Punch fans! Hare Rumpler here along with our analyst, Donkey “Dan”, and Suzy Sucker Punch, our bored as shit media correspondent! Yes, that’s right, there hasn’t been much chatter from these Light Heavyweights this week, either before or after the event, so she’s pretty much had a week to sit back and relax, no dealing with sweaty fighters, no dealing with busy managers barking orders at people while she’s trying to have a convo with them, no leering eyes that seem to be burning right through…well, we won’t go there…but let’s just say a couple of dudes have almost gotten a Sucker Punch of their own from Suzy! But generally, this has been a quiet week for her and she’s been able to sit back, look around, and actually work on the other project we gave her, which was to go out and interview a couple folks who might be writers for us…for…well…interviews! So we’ll see how that turns out kiddos!

Are you ready to get into this folks? We’re about a day and a half removed from the event, what with my side hustle taking up a bit of my time this week and all, so I hope you’re all still excited to see what came down and whether Donkey had his shit together or not when he did his picks!?

Our card the other night featured two talented Light Heavyweight semi-final matches as well as eight other Light Heavyweight fights! There were a few surprises, but I’ll give you a sneak preview…Donkey was damn on his game actually. Even the one he got wrong…well, he kinda went the other way outa respect for the game and not wanting to seem like a homer to be honest. But hey, a pick is a pick right? It counts on the record there Donkey, now quit arguing about it ya big baby!

Let’s hear from our merchandise partner and sponsor and then get on with the Cheap Shots guys!

Now, let's get to it!

Light Heavyweight Undercard Bout #1

Some Body Defeats James Link via Unanimous Decision

Our night started out the way we described it Donkey…a battle between two guys with zero morale between them. Fortunately, this one was ready made for Some Body to walk away with the win regardless of that situation.

Remember how we talked about the fact that Link seemed to lack any sort of plan regarding what he wanted to do to get a win? Well, it surfaced again in this fight, almost exactly as it had in the past. Here’s what I mean…Link would clinch up…and then spend all of his time trying for a takedown. Nothing in the way of striking from the clinch, and even when not in the clinch only a couple. Ok, fine…he wants to get onto the ground. Well, he succeeded a couple times from the clinch, twice out of nineteen attempts actually. Woohoo. Not. But here’s the thing, just like in his other fights, once there…he had zero plan for what he wanted to do down there. Moved around a little bit, improved position twice, tried two strikes, failed…and then stood back up! You spend an entire fight trying to get to the ground…and then you stand back up?!?! Sounds to me like he really just wanted to roll around on the mat with the other guy some, Donkey! Hahaha.

Some Body did exactly what you would expect in this situation…let the other guy defeat himself, and take what you can, when you can, knowing that in the end it will be enough! He spent the majority of the time also trying to clinch up, but then when he did, he landed somewhere between 20-35% of his shots. He mixed it up nicely, some to the head, a bit to the body, an elbow or knee here and there. On the ground he protected himself and did enough to keep Link on his guard by attempting a sub and a strike. Just enough to let Link know he wasn’t going to get a free roll in the hay! Haha. And really, when the other guy has zero plan for any offense, that’s about all you have to do!

Donkey, good call bud, anything else…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

I was tempted to call this as a decision but decided to go with the more fun finish via strikes. Well, the decision is what we got, and that decision gives Some Body his first win! Congrats! Now, let’s see that positive win streak start buddy…and to do that, get on your manager’s case and tell him you want new clothes…and then go on a spree of changing them every day or every other day for about 2 weeks till that morale is nice and full, giving you a better shot at defeating your next opponent. Because the next guy won’t be this easy…it’s virtually impossible for it to be so!

*********

Light Heavyweight Undercard Bout #2

Adam Webber (1-5-0) vs. Bruce Li (0-6-0) (No Contest – Li Fails Making Weight)

Adam Webber got screwed over in this one this month by Bruce Li, or more specifically, his manager, Wang Li. He wasn’t logging in, didn’t have his energy up, and therefore couldn’t make weight. So a No Contest gets chalked up. Which is absolutely bullshit! I gotta tell ya, for me, except for an occasional newbie mistake on the weight or something, not making weight is a 100% legitimate reason for an auto-cut. My apologies to Webber, we made sure to get him hooked up for next month’s card.

Donkey, I’m afraid to ask, but what have you got…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

No comment. Just like the no contest.

*********

Light Heavyweight Undercard Bout #3

Joe Junior Defeats Karol Krawczyk via KO (Punches)

Alright! This next fight featured two young fighters who both have some KO power baby! But…only one man can be put to sleep…well, at least…unless something completely freakish happens! Anyways, Krawczyk came into this one at only about 60% morale, and we said that would likely be an issue. We also mentioned that he was going to need to come out aggressive to counter that lack of confidence and build it fast. Junior never gave him that chance! And good for him for going after it like he did!

Right from the bell Junior got at it, and he did it with cold, deadly accuracy! But clearly, also with some POP behind it! While he was active, it actually seemed like Krawczyk was the more aggressive fighter, but his intentions were takedowns and clinch attempts. A shot to the body by Junior…a stuffed Krawczyk takedown attempt…a missed clinch and then a missed combo…with Junior countering with a shot right on the nose that drew blood. Woot!

Krawczyk was determined to get a takedown, but Junior was up to the task of fending them off. Bad news for Krawczyk! And Every time he’d try to get a shot in, Junior would slip and counter! Once to the body, then to the head. Body again…and again! And then, the moment came…

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Junior connects with a superb combination that knocks Krawczyk out cold! The referee charges across the mat and tackles Junior before he can land any more shots to the unconscious Krawczyk!

Donkey, wow, great combo to end it there...?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Out like a light there Hare! Exciting stuff, and with the fight prior to this not going off due to a no-contest, this is exactly what the other fighters and the place needed to get the crowd right back into it and fire the place up! These two can both pack a punch, but on this night, Junior proved he was the superior fighter in the ring and put those hands of his on full display! His only loss was his first fight and came thanks to the submission skills of Wille Thai, who is competing for the championship next month. So with two back to back wins now, Junior’s next opponent will surely not take this man lightly!

*********

Light Heavyweight Undercard Bout #4

Soons Sam Defeats Leon Chaster via Unanimous Decision

Well, Sam surprised me on this one…but not Donkey! Donkey had said in the preview, “Well, I think I’m going to surprise you for a change here Hare! But darn, he better have some excellent defensive grappling, because if he doesn’t, yeah, he’s going to get subbed out down there!” Now, he didn’t get it right that it came to a finish via strikes, but he did get two things right, first, he suspected that Sam would still not be afraid to take this to the ground. And, he also suspected that Sam would have the skills to fend off Chaster while down there and not get subbed! Wow, decent call there Donkey!

This one went to a decision for Sam, but to be very honest, it almost could have gone either way as the stats in this fight were almost equal right across the board. And that showed with the judges, as they scored this 29-28 also across the board. Chaster got the first round, but then Sam took the final two with those judges. And this one almost did go to Chaster without the judges needing to get involved…as early in this fight in the first round, Chaster had a full mount on Sam! But Sam did some amazing stuff with defending, kicking off Chaster over and over to escape to his feet. As did Chaster when he needed to.

This fight overall had a ton of ups and downs, back and forths, position changes and jostling for position. What it didn’t have was a ton of effective offense.

Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Well, I did sort of call things, but I honestly thought that offensively this was going to be a more active fight. Instead, it was a battle for position. Not something the general everyday fan loves to watch unfortunately, so it got low ratings, but there are those out there who can appreciate the chess match of positioning. I’ll leave it to you guys to decide if this was a great example of a good fight in that respect, or if it was just more of a snooze fest! Soon improves to 2-0 though, and will likely be looking with greedy eyes on trying to get a nice, shiny 3-0 going with his next fight!

*********

Light Heavyweight Undercard Bout #5

Hemmo Karhu Defeats John Popeye via Submission (RNC)

I’ll give Popeye and his manager a ton of credit here! Granted, they came into the fight with Popeye low on morale and confidence, so that was a knock against them. But…we knew he’d have to be aggressive to build that confidence and really go after this. And he did!

Popeye likes the ground game and some good, friendly ground and pound. But we thought being on the ground with Karhu and that intimidating set of BJJ skills might be more than a little dangerous.

Popeye came out aggressive as we said, clinching up and then taking it to the ground with authority! Once there, he initiated the beginnings of some wicked ground and pound, as per his reputation…but that’s where it got tricky for him. Or, I should say, Karhu got tricky for him! Karhu took the abuse, almost seeming to allow Popeye to fall into that false sense of security zone…and that was when everybody realized that he’d been slowly slipping and sneaking out from under Popeye…and bam, next thing you know, he’s bucked out and slipped to Popeye’s back like a damned viper!

And that was it, this man slipped things together so fast you had to wonder where the rear naked choke came from, and I’m sure Popeye is still wondering as well. And kicking himself for being so focused on some really nice, aggressive offense that he failed to see the danger coming.

Donkey, great move and submission eh…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

It was definitely a great submission, some smooth as silk technique there Hare. But I’m going to tell you this…Popeye didn’t land a ton of shots…but the ones he did, boy, I wouldn’t have wanted to be on the receiving end of those. Credit to Karhu for knowing the position he was in, having the guts to take the punishment while staying calm and controlled and pulling off a heck of a move. That is one cool cucumber there ladies and gentlemen! With this one, he goes to 2-1, with two sub wins in a row, and is definitely on the right track!

Light Heavyweight Main Card Bout #1

Mike Bard Defeats Ali Hasanov via Split Decision

Wow Donkey! Ok, you don’t get any closer to having it split down the middle, or even going the other way, than this fight! Ali Hasanov and Mike Bard went out there, took it to the ground repeatedly, and had their own little GnP war!

Bard ended up winning this thing because he was the slightly more active guy on the ground when it came to offense and positioning. But my god, he only JUST got this one. These two split Rounds 2 and 3, with Hasanov taking Round 2 and Bard claiming Round 3. But the first round was given to Bard by two of the three judges…that’s how close this could have easily flipped the other way!

Each man tried their fair share of submissions while down there as well, but each had the answer defensively for the other, thwarting five a piece. Instead, this came down to Bard landing 14 of 34 shots on the ground versus Hasanov’s 8 of 12. Hasanov definitely had the higher percentage of shots land, and a couple more in standup also, but clearly the judges just barely judged Bard to be the more active, aggressive fighter. Me, I’m not sure Donkey…I mean, Hasanov did score 3 of his 4 takedown attempts, with Bard not trying for any. I would have thought that would have made some difference with the judges too given they were spread evenly over all three rounds. Wow…this one might be argued back and forth for a while over who really won this!

Donkey, what about you…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

There’s no doubt at all that both camps will argue they won this fight. Both men put their hands up in the air after the fight and had that confident look that they got this thing, and why wouldn’t you? For me, I can’t really say, the judges clearly had a difficult time with this as well. Perhaps only a rematch in the future will be able to settle this one down the line!

Light Heavyweight Main Card Bout #2

Steven Jones Defeats Naizen Kamenashi via Unanimous Decision

This next fight featured two very, very talented young fighters. Both of whom have not shied away from intense and true tests of their abilities so far in their careers as neither has spent any real time, actually, in this case, any at all, in the QFC. A lot of fighters will use QFC to build up that resume early…but no goofing around with these two, straight into orgs and working it against other guys who think they’re up for the challenge as well!

That’s why it was no surprise here to see a young Steven Jones, who may have been sporting only a 1-4 record, still go ahead and win this thing against a tough Naizen Kamenashi! Now, Donkey did pick Kamenashi to win this one due to his history of winning with Head Kicks…and who doesn’t love those…so we sort of expected this fight was going to end in a finish for one of these two gentlemen who both live and die by that KO and TKO sword! That was not to be, surprisingly! These guys took it the distance in a surprising fight that went three full rounds.

Jones came into this fight, and if it didn’t become clear in the first round, it definitely was by the second round that his intention was to dictate where this fight took place…in the clinch! And dictating that it would take place in the clinch is something he was able to do with no difficulty whatsoever! Each round went the same way, with Jones taking it into the clinch early, and then the two of them going to war exchanging shots from close range as they slow danced around the ring together. It was so heartwarming Donkey! Haha!

Jones was very active in the clinch with the head and body shots. He landed quite a few, but was super aggressive in the amount of shots he tried to get in there. Kamenashi mixed it up, but had a much larger focus on the knees and to some degree the elbows. Unfortunately for him, Jones was up to the task of defending against them and limited the shots landed to a total of only 6 out of 93 thrown! WOW.

So while the judges split the rounds a little bit for these guys, giving Jones Rounds 1 and 2 and then giving the third to Kamenashi, it really wasn’t even that close to be honest.

Donkey, what did you think…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

I’m absolutely shocked that this one didn’t go to a finish! But kudos to Jones for coming into this with a plan for how he was going to try to nullify Kamenashi’s knockout power from range, especially with those feet of his! This plan worked out beautifully for Jones, completely taking Kamenashi out of his game and really forcing him into an uncomfortable night of dancing. This was a strategy win for Jones, he has his camp to thank for this one, and good for him for going out there and being able to execute! He’s clearly a fearsome competitor despite the record, which we knew coming in due to his ratings by all the professionals out there. Kamenashi slips to 5-3, still a very good record, but now starts his time here at Sucker Punch with a loss. No doubt he’ll be back and hungrier than every next fight!

Light Heavyweight CSS Semi-Finals: #6 vs. #15

Wille Thai Defeats Marat Mustafaev via Submission (Kimura)

Our next fight here is part of the Light Heavyweight Sorter Series Semi-Finals. Wow, that’s a mouthful eh Donkey? Wille Thai is a submission expert, and we knew going into this that it was an uphill battle for Mustafaev. But give this man his credit, when offered this fight after Kerzner shied away and stepped out of the tournament, despite winning the prior round, Mustafaev was more than willing to take his extra shot and showed zero fear!

And even more impressive, for the first minute of this one, right out of the gate from the bell, it looked like Marat was zeroed in and focused on trying to do exactly what we’d mentioned in the preview! Here is what I had said at the end of that preview, “From my perspective, his path to victory is very clear tonight. Keep this on the feet, use his hands effectively, and if he decides to take it to the clinch where he has the definitive advantage, focus on delivery the punishment while staying on guard and preventing the takedown. If he gets dragged to the ground, this thing becomes a real issue…really fast.

Marat came out doing just what we said, he tagged Thai right out of the bell, drew blood for good measure and managed to fend off not one takedown, but three, making it appear like he may be in it to try to win it! In between those takedowns, he managed to counter and land another good solid shot as well that had to have Thai thinking twice about how this fight was going to go!

But, Thai is a hell of a competitor as we know. And a talented submission artist as we also mentioned already. This fight was going to go to the ground one way or another if he had anything to say about it! Into the second minute, Mustafaev stuffed yet ANOTHER takedown from Thai, which had to be frustrating Thai to no end! Mustafaev was working the game plan, and part of that plan included trying to take advantage of his main area of strength, the clinch. He went for it ladies and gents…he sure did…but Thai managed to not only evade the clinch, but caught Mustafaev on the counter…and boom, down to the canvas this thing went! Uh oh.

From there it’s like we said. Big Trouble in Little...Thailand?...for Mustafaev. The submission spam parade began in earnest from Thai…and again, to Mustafaev’s credit, he fought tooth and nail to fend them off…A kimura, no joy! Forearm choke, nothing doing! Ok, guillotine! No, not today, not yet! Arm Triangle man, arm triangle…but nope, Thai was dishing them out, but Mustafaev wasn’t buying! Another forearm choke…another kimura…and ANOTHER kimura…No, no and NO! But Thai was relentless, and Mustafaev just as determined! Another Kimura, and NO…and another submission, not even named because at this point Thai was just an anaconda snaking around looking for anything loose or susceptible…and still…nothing…but then…

The inevitable. Without being able to escape to the feet…and wow, JUST shy of making it to the bell..with 19 seconds to go in the round…Thai slaps on yet another attempt at the kimura…and gets it…and for the life of him, you could see him cranking away desperate to make this one stick, which it did!

Donkey…wow…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Sometimes, Hare, you get long winded and go on and on and I sit here tapping my foot thinking, “When will this blowhard be done?!?”. But not today. I’ll let that little tale you just told stand as is, both of these guys went out there to give it their best…and Thai’s skills certainly need to be applauded as he now gets his third straight win, 3-0 record, and three subs in a row! But make no mistake, Mustafaev should be damned proud of the effort put in, the game plan that MIGHT have worked…and the drive to almost make it to safety…if not for the determination of Thai to NOT let that safety be reached. Congrats to both.

Co-Main Event

Light Heavyweight Bout

Aleks Kuznetsov Defeats Dougie Mcphee via TKO (Kick and Punches)

In our Co-Main Event, we got to see a couple beasts go at it Donkey! As we mentioned in the preview, this fight may have been an actual clash of behemoths if it wasn’t for Mcphee’s manager going MIA and leaving him to fend for himself going into this all important fight!

You could tell right away that Mcphee wasn’t totally focused on this fight. His strikes were a bit sloppy and off, with Kuznetsov slipping them easily. He dodged not one, not two, but three strikes from Mcphee that were all delivered a bit lackluster and lacking conviction and purpose. And then, once he got his feel for the range, he started to fire back, first missing a jab, but then landing his first strike, a leg kick that you could tell right away Mcphee wanted to have no more of!

Another miss for Kuzie…did I mention that’s how I affectionately like to refer to him Donkey?...but them, boy…oh boy…BAM! A huge right hand lands and Mcphee is sent crashing down! Wow. I wasn’t sure he was going to get back up, but Kuz just waited…and the fight, or maybe I should say, the stalking by Kuznetsov…proceeded!

A bit of back and forth with feeling out again…and then came the trouble! Well, the trouble for Mcphee that is! Mcphee takes a kick to the body, and tries to keep going as if it didn’t hurt, but his mind was clearly either on that, or something unrelated to the fight…because BAM, Kuznetsov decides that looked fun, and goes a bit higher with a HUGE head kick…that puts Mcphee out on the feet, with the ref saving him after another couple of shots from Kuz to a punch drunk Mcphee!

Donkey, TKO via Kick and Punches baby! You don’t see that every day huh…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Mcphee’s heart wasn’t in this fight and you could tell. Not having a manager seeing over your day to day activities and planning for your upcoming fights can be demoralizing for a fighter, and clearly Mcphee was the victim here. Kuznetsov did exactly what an aggressive, powerful guy is supposed to do, layed out whoever is placed in front of him in the cage! He moves to 2-0, and looks to be a scary sight for anybody stepping into the cage with him at this point.

Main Event

Featherweight CSS Round 2: #5 vs. #9

Sacrificial Lamb Defeats Titus Fury via TKO (Strikes)

Our last and final event of the evening also finishes off our semi-finals for the Light Heavyweight Sorter Series tournament! I had my doubts on this one here. And honestly, it was hard for me to judge and be unbiased in this one. My mind told me that while Fury had the advantage of having previously owned Lamb and made him his bitch, this was not the same Fury coming into this fight. His manager has done a good job with him so far since he took over, but, he’d made one critical mistake with him and that was not maintaining his morale.

Donkey will tell you over and over again that morale, energy, etc. are just as, if not more, important than training. You can have all the skills in the world, but if you come into a fight without the energy to put forth a solid effort…or, in this case…come in with low or no morale and lacking the confidence to enact your game plan, you’re not going to have a great shot at success.

Fury came into this with the normal plan you’d expect from him, and why would you expect anything else? He attempted takedowns to get this fight on the canvas where he could dominate and finish it via sub. That’s a solid plan, and probably would have worked, if he had the confidence and morale to commit to his takedowns and drive through to completion. Unfortunately, he lacked that, and got stuck in a stand-up battle that favored Lamb! And, lacking morale…and probably enough striking defense or agility to defend adequately…Fury was at the mercy of Lamb who was able to land his shots effectively and accurately.

13 out of 14 head shots, 3 for 3 for body shots, 2 combos and 5 kicks, all of which landed…was all it took to have Fury reeling and ready for the takeout shot…which came from Lamb and had the refs coming in for the save!

Donkey, not what you predicted eh…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Honestly, it’s not often I let my judgement be clouded by bias when making a prediction. But I have to admit I think I did on this one and let it show. Everybody knows I typically pick against a guy who comes in unprepared. I didn’t in this one, mostly because subconsciously I probably didn’t want to pick your guy Hare, which seemed too close to home and too “homer friendly” of a pick. Oh well, Fury let this one fall, and with it his perfect record. If he learns something from this, it’s that he should absolutely get a full set of clothing replacements, like 20 tops and 20 bottoms…and change them out every day and a half from now for the next 2-3 weeks, whatever it takes, to get that morale back up over 90%! This was his fight to win…or in this case…lose. But he can bounce back…and potentially capture the championship in the future if he focuses and brings his whole game to the cage!

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

A great night of fights and some really surprising…and in some cases not so surprising…outcomes! I hope you enjoyed this event, because I know we did! So we move on to the finals, even though I’m still trying to determine the best course for those and whether Lamb should really be taking part. But in the meantime we have a really good feel at this point where folks stand, and those last few we might have some questions on will certainly be worked out next month!

Have a great evening folks, and till next time…

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series 355k+ style!

Sucker Punch Preview

Lightweight Cockshot Sorter Series: SEMI-Finals

Hey all you Sucker Punch fans! Guess what? It’s time for some Lightweight action! Well, mostly Lightweight, we have a couple other fights mixed in this week as well, but the big focus for this card is definitely the Lightweights and the Semi-Finals of their Sorter Series! I’m Hare Rumpler and I’ll be looking ahead at the event tonight with my partner Donkey “Dan” and our vivacious media correspondent, Suzy Sucker Punch.

As we head into the semi-finals of our Lightweight Sorter Series with this card we will see those two fights along with six more Lightweight contests. In addition, to begin the top half of the card we’ll also get a chance to see an extra contest between Welterweights Konrad Wagner and Alex Driver, both two very talented up and coming fighters! And starting of the evening will be a little sparring bout between two of my own Middleweight fighters competing at Openweight to see if they have what it takes to be the guy I send on to another tourney being held elsewhere.

When it comes to action, the Lightweights almost never let us down! These smaller-ish dudes really get out there and get after it, and I expect that we’re in for a stellar night over at the Bondi Outdoor Arena in Sydney! So, without further delay, let’s hear about Shadow Warrior Nutrition, and then get to things!

http://mmatycoon.com/images/company/logo/1584375781SWN.jpg

Shadow Warrior Nutrition isn’t just out merchandise and sponsor for these events, but they’re also our trusted source for training supplements for our fighters! These guys do so much for us, between the extra bit of income that we get at the events that helps with the Of the Night awards to just being there with their Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q, the fantastic energy loss reduction supplement that keeps our guys training and helps to keep them from dropping down on energy! Now would be a great time to get yourself some fantastic sups to help your fighters out, you won’t be disappointed, check them out today!

Now, let's get to it!

Bonus Middleweight Sparring Bout

Aleksei Yahontov (0-0-0) vs. Luca Romano (0-0-0)

Not really a lot to say here honestly. Two kids, both with no fights under their belt and both trying to show that they’ve got something else hidden away that makes them worthy of a permanent shot in my, Hare’s, stable. Also, the best of these two will go on to the tournament over at Diamond Fight Nights run by Rei.

So here’s hoping for granite chins and great levels of confidence for whoever loses this fight! Both have decent to very decent learning speed, so I’m excited to hopefully get at least one diamond in the rough here!

Anything Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Doesn’t Matter

Knowing your luck Hare, you’re going to get one guy who bleeds like a hemophiliac and another who spends his training time moonwalking and gardening! I hope not though, hopefully you get one with a granite chin or some nasty knockout power behind him! Morale wise, for the guy who loses, assuming a decent hidden is found, you’ll be hoping for one that doesn’t drop at most more than 15-20% of his morale after a loss. Anything more than that can spell trouble with the confidence man!

Lightweight Undercard Bout #1

Erik Versteeg (0-3-0) vs. Jank Stank (2-5-0)

Ok, our first Lightweight bout of the evening sees Stank come up against Erik Versteeg. Now, are you guys sick of hearing me talk about how Donkey isn’t going to be happy with the morale or energy situation when it comes to preparation for fights? Well, if you are, then you probably want to skip the next line or two! Because yep, both of these guys have their morale down a little bit, Versteeg more than Stank, but not by a ton. I’d estimate that Stank is coming in at about 75% morale, while Versteeg has about 60-65%. Still not good, especially being that Versteeg also is missing about 10% or so of his energy. Bah. Not exactly what you want to do when you’re looking for your first win still there, Mr. Versteeg!

Anyways, Versteeg has the Muy Thai and BJJ advantage in this fight. Stank will have the advantage in boxing and wrestling. Interesting combinations. Versteeg has lost all three of his prior fights via submission. Lucky for him, he probably doesn’t need to worry about that this evening, as one of Stank’s two wins came via TKO…the other via a decision. Stank has lost via submission twice, so it’s unlikely he wants to be on the ground, at least not for that reason. As for what Versteeg will try to do to win this, well, your guess is as good as mine as his three losses haven’t shown a consistent pattern for what he’s looking to do with his skill sets yet. Perhaps we find out tonight!

For Stank, he’s also a bit of an enigma. In his prior fights, he’s tended not to be able to dictate where the fight takes place, so it’s hard to say exactly what his preference is. Two fights back, he surprisingly dragged the fight to the ground from the clinch, and started trying subs with his white belt in BJJ. Interesting. But ultimately it didn’t lead to a win. He needs one tonight, just as badly as Versteeg does, so let’s see what he decides to do to get one!

Who gets their first win Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Stank via TKO (Strikes)

Not sure if it’ll come on the ground or standing, but my thoughts are that Stank wins this via strikes. I think Versteeg has too much going against him tonight with regard to the morale and energy situations, and I just can’t take that and run with it for a pick! Unfortunately, that would send Versteeg to a less than stellar 0-4, so for his sake he better prove me wrong!

*********

Lightweight Undercard Bout #2

Ko Artist (1-3-0) vs. Corona Virus (0-2-0)

Ya know Donkey…I wonder if anybody has taken notice to a trend over the past several weeks? Especially, as we start to get further and further here into the Sorter Series tournament rounds, and with tonight’s event being the last of the Semi-Final cards? Let me help folks out…who do you normally see early in the cards? Yes, that’s right, the guys who are potentially struggling a little bit, don’t have the best records yet, might really need a win, etc. And…not always, but typically…when we start out a card, and you hear me saying that Donkey isn’t going to be happy about morale, or energy, etc…where is that? Yep, at the beginning of the cards most of the time! Bingo. So…one plus one probably in most cases equals…well, two, right? Bingo!

If you come to your fights unprepared with your morale or energy low, you’re going to increase your chances of losing. And that’s why over time, you end up not having such a great record and struggling. That’s now always the reason why a guy finds himself struggling, it could be build, could be hiddens, could be camp strategy, etc. But more often than not, if a guy is coming into fights unprepared…he’s probably in one of the first four fights on the card. Not hard to see the correlation there, huh? So people…come prepared!

Not like KO Artist tonight…who is coming into this with about 40% morale. Or Virus, who isn’t very low on morale, not topped off, but not very low, but is coming in probably with about 90% energy. Every. Little. Bit. Counts. When you’re trying to win, you need to do all the right things. These aren’t the right things. Lecture over…but see, now I don’t have much time left to talk about the actual matchup…

Artist has the advantage here in Muy Thai and wrestling. A nice combination, and you’d think he’ll try to use that advantage to clinch up and deal out the abuse. Virus is the much more accomplished boxer, so he’s going to likely stand there and try to keep his distance.

Donkey, what say you sir...?

Donkey’s Pick: Virus via TKO (Strikes)

Pretty straightforward here. If Artist can clinch up and dish it out, he’ll likely win. If Virus can prevent that, he’ll have a good shot at the win. Given Artist’s lack of morale and confidence, I’m thinking he can’t commit to clinching and holding the advantage that well, so Virus should get another win here and pull close to .500.

*********

Lightweight Undercard Bout #3

Rey Bargos (0-3-1) vs. Conor Notorious (2-4-0)

For our next fight, we see Bargos facing off in the cage with Conor Notorious. This is another pairing where both kids really need and should really want a win in the worst way!

Rey’s record is 0-3-1 overall, but really 0-1 in MMA. He lost to Frankie Logan in the first round of the Sorter series, so there is no shame in that loss as Logan has scared away more than one competitor already who flat out refused to even fight. And in that fight, Bargos took it to a surprising decision, so there’s that to fall back on as well. He comes in slightly off on morale, but not badly so. He should still be able to give this close to his best shot. Bargos has the advantage here in wrestling and BJJ, but has exceptional Muy Thai as well, similar to Notorious’ Muy Thai skills.

With Rey having the advantage in wrestling and BJJ, you might think that Notorious had better worry about this fight going to the ground. And honestly, that is always a possibility. But that wrestling advantage may be what Bargos needs to impose his will over Notorious in the clinch, where he can take advantage of his considerable skills there. For me, I think that’s probably where I’d want to go, despite equivalent Muy Thai skills!

Notorious has zero ground game. So, if Bargos does decide to try and take it to the ground, he’s going to want to do everything in his power to deny him that advantage! He should stand his ground and try to strike from distance.

One of these guys is getting a win, which one Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Bargos via TKO (Strikes)

I disagree with you Hare. I think that in this particular matchup, Bargos can certainly use the clinch and do some damage there to soften up Notorious and wear him down, but eventually I’d see him dragging this to the ground and using his wrestling advantage there. Any ability Notorious would have of keeping this on the feet and winning via strikes is nullified by his low energy coming in, so I have to go with Bargos here and predict he gets his first win tonight!

Suzy Sucker Punch: Hey, I don’t know if you guys saw it or not, but Rey Bargos visited the Sucker Punch forums leading up to the fight tonight. He made it clear that he was more focused than ever heading into this thing and that this was an all or nothing, let it all hang out and go for glory fight! He’s basically hanging his career on it, and while I don’t know that it needs to come to that, maybe he’s using that as his motivation to come away with the win tonight. Whatever it takes boys, but it sounds like he’s focused and ready to bring it!

*********

Lightweight Undercard Bout #4

Rock Lee (1-1-0) vs. Sho Pereyra (1-3-0)

Donkey, finally buddy! Finally! Yes, two guys who look more or less mostly prepared for this fight! No significant lows in energy or morale…well, Pereyra is slightly off on morale, but nothing eye raising. Nice, now we can have an all out fight boys!

Rock Lee comes into this one with the advantage in boxing and Muy Thai despite both of these young warriors being 19 years old and having been training since about the same time. So that will obviously make us wonder…could Pereyra have the better physicals and some secondaries? Or is he simply behind Lee in development?

Lee got a win over Virus on the last card, a decision victory that he took the distance and put in the nasty little judges’ hands. But he came away with the W, and that’s what matters! In that fight, he clinched up more than a bit over the course of those three rounds, although he never really was very active and aggressive in the clinch. Most of his strikes landed from distance, especially with his kicks which he landed with significant accuracy. That’s really where he got the points and won that match. Being that these two have identical builds and skills other than boxing and Muy Thai, you can expect a lot more of the same tonight I’d think, only perhaps a bit more refined in approach from Lee.

Pereyra is 1-3 in his career and is also coming off his first win! A beautiful armbar submission victory over Erik Versteeg, which had to feel good after he lost by the exact same move to Bobolo Jubbly in Round 1 of the Sorter Series. So nobody can say this boy doesn’t study his fights and learn from them, heck, even stealing the moves that worked against him! He’s not going to want to stand and trade shots with Lee I’d expect, so there is a good chance he takes this to the ground again tonight.

Donkey, you have a pick for us in this one…?

Donkey’s Pick: Lee via TKO (Strikes)

Lee may have the advantage in skills overall, so I’m taking him based upon what we know. But it’s what we don’t know…and that’s what the secondaries and physicals look like, that could come back and bite me on this pick if Pereyra can use dominance in those areas to control the fight!

*********

Welterweight Main Card Bout

Konrad Wagner (1-0-0) vs. Alex Driver (1-3-0)

Moving into the top half of the card, we open things up here with a Welterweight bout that seems a little out of place on this card! Well, these two needed to get a fight in, and we had a spot on this card, it was a match made in heaven, no pun intended, so here we are!

And here we go with me ranting again Donkey! Well, ok, let me lay off the rants and just say it quickly and simply…Driver is not really all that prepared for the fight. His morale is about 15% off and his energy is probably about 30% off. Not putting the best foot forward! He is 1-3 overall, but 1-1 in MMA. Looking back at his last fight, I can’t judge the morale start, but he was off by about 10% on energy to start. The fight before that, which he won, he came in at 100%...are we seeing a trend?

Driver has a slight advantage in Muy Thai in this one. But that’s not going to help if he can’t muster the confidence and energy to use it. Konrad Wagner is a very young kid, coming in as a 361k creation, but having proven himself more than capable with a win in his debut against Igor Nox last month! TKO in just over a minute as well. He’s fully prepped, energy and confidence on high, and I expect him to use his superior boxing to set up for another victory tonight!

Donkey, got a pick in this one…?

Donkey’s Pick: Wagner via TKO (Strikes)

Wagner clearly is focused and prepared, and showed some significant skills and a fairly quickly developed build for his age and time spent training. Clearly the kid is a quick study and those lethal hands of his should get the job done tonight. I wouldn’t play around in the clinch too much against Drive if I were him though, or Driver could turn this thing around and if he can do damage fast enough, he could surprise and build confidence for himself in the fight early.

Lightweight Main Card Bout #1

Mike Snot (4-0-0) vs. Valery Bokov (1-2-0)

We have what should be a fantastic match for you folks coming up next here! Normally I’d say something about Snot coming in a little low on energy for this fight. However, if Snot is going to win this fight…well, energy probably won’t come into play anyway if he goes with his normal game plan.

What is that game plan you may ask? Well, Mike Snot prefers to dish out the pain, do it quickly and get things over with in under three minutes. He’s done that three times out of his four fights. The other fight was his first, and made it into the second round before he figured out that ending it in the first was just so much easier! Snot has wonderful Muy Thai skills and proficient wrestling, a combination that should immediately make you, as his opponent, say, “No sir, I’d prefer not to slow dance this evening!”. However, dance partner beware, he also proved in his last fight he can get at his opponent anywhere on the dance floor, even from separation.

Bokov’s skills lie in a completely different area, so we’re going to see a standup versus ground game battle in this here little foray this evening! Bokov and Jubbly had an all out war last month the last time Bokov fought, with the ground game playing a big role. In the fight before that, Bokov won via submission over KO Artist, ending it with an Americana in under a minute! Bokov’s approach will be simple…get this to the ground…and from there, tap your ass out! If he can get Snot to the ground early, he can wear Snot out and get that sub. But he better watch Snot’s dangerous hands in the meantime while trying to get him there.

Donkey, which way do you think this one swings…?

Donkey’s Pick: Bokov via Submission (Armbar)

I think Bokov does get this to the ground, and from there Snot will be in trouble. If this fight goes on for any length of time, which it may not even if Snot doesn’t wear down and get tired, Snot will start to lose steam due to coming in less than rested. However, it’s not difficult to see this one ending VERY early if Snot lands the right shot standing, or Bokov can slap on a quick submission!

Suzy Sucker Punch: Guys, I spoke with Yury Bagrov earlier this week before they got ready to head in our direction for the fight tonight. I think you’re going to love what they’ve been up to leading into this thing!

Yury Bagrov: Tomorrow Valery will face the most dangerous opponent of his career. As we speak Valery is on the training session grappling with circus bears. I have never seen him more serious and motivated for any of his previous fights. Russian sambo will prevail!

Donkey: Suzy, you’re telling me that he’s been wrestling with circus bears?!? Seriously? Please don’t tell Hare about this, you know he’s going to make a giant fuss and go on and on about it…I’ll never hear the end of it, he’ll love this stuff!

*********

Lightweight Main Card Bout #2

Veljko Bakocevic (2-5-0) vs. Two Two (3-1-0)

Donkey, this kid’s mom had some serious issues I think! Was she high when she had this kid?!? I’m trying to figure this out…was he the second child, and she just said, hmm…Two Two! Or, maybe he was the fourth, and she was working on her addition tables?!? I dunno, but man, I mighta changed my name by this point in life if I was him.

Anyways, Two…um, Two…will be facing Bakocevic tonight in our last Main Card bout before the Main Events! Good for him, this kid comes into the fight pretty much fully prepared, that will make you happy Donkey! Right? Or doesn’t anything make you happy? Anyways, Two has a 3-1 record all from QFC fights up to this point in his career. So this is a first big test for him, can he take the wins and skills he’s developed and translate them into “real” wins against org level competition? Well, we’ll find out tonight! He’ll have the advantage in Muy Thai, but his wins have all come via a combination of both sets of standup skills. Typically using the clinch as a supplementary tool to wear down the opponent and then finishing them with the hands.

Bakocevic appears to have the advantage in other areas tonight, specifically in boxing and definitely on the ground with his Jiu Jitsu skills. However, he comes into this thing with his morale at about 65%, not exactly the ideal way to go about seeking a win! With a 2-5 record, he very much needs one here as he’s gone 1-1 since joining Sucker Punch. This should have been a match that gave him the advantage, but due to the morale, I’m not sure you can call him the favorite. He’ll want to get this to the ground and work the submission game as he did two fights ago against Virus…but the problem is…or question I should say…will he have the confidence and drive to successfully get this thing to the ground? We saw earlier this week with the Fury/Lamb fight for the Light Heavyweights what can happen when an accomplished submission artist comes in with low morale. Now, Bako’s isn’t as low as Fury’s was, but…we shall see!

Donkey, any additional thoughts here…?

Donkey’s Pick: Two via KO (Punch)

Bakocevic has shown himself to be susceptible to a good striker. That morale could be an issue. I still think he stands a very good chance of winning this if he can get the takedown. Actually, if he gets the takedown, I’m certain he does win this. But…I’m going with the upset and saying Two gets to him with the hands first!

Co-Main Event

Lightweight Main Card Bout #3

Piney Winston (6-1-0) vs. Demi Achilles (4-1-0)

Our Co-Main Event of the evening is a big fight for these two, as there is a great chance that one of these two young lions may be one of the first in line to challenge for the championship in the next couple months!

Piney Winston is a very impressive 6-1 so far in his career, with his only loss being his first fight which was likely a “see what’s there and the morale loss” fight in the QFC. He went on to win four more in the QFC, which is great and all…but what we really needed to see was if he could win in org competition? The answer to that so far has been, “YES”. He defeated Abiht two fights ago and then went on to take out Jank Stank in his last fight, with all of his victories to date coming via submission. So…I guess he plans to stand and strike with Achilles tonight?!? Hahaha, yeah, not so much! He has very limited standup skills, but what he does have is a very specific set of grappling and Jiu Jitsu skills…skills he will use to try to take Achilles down…and defeat him!

Achilles, however, is not like the rest that Winston has faced. He has some boxing skills…but he, too, has a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu, and has won his fights via Sub as well as one KO! So…he’ll be able to strike and have a definitive advantage there if he can keep it on the feet…or if it goes to the ground, well, he’s just as dangerous there as Winston is! So that will be a LOT of fun for all of us! The difference maker may come down to Winston’s wrestling, which is a bit better than Achilles’.

Wow Donkey, a possible war here…?

Donkey’s Pick: Achilles via Submission (Kimura)

This is a very, very tough one to call. I’d say the first one tonight where I really have to pause and think this through a bit. Both of these men are fully prepared for this fight, which I love. So it’s not going to come down to one of them automatically having an advantage. But…Winston is coming in heavy and is going to need the extra hour and hot tub to lose the extra pound or two…that doesn’t drain you completely, but it can have an effect. It also means that Achilles is the lighter, potentially quicker and better conditioned fighter…who also happens to be shorter with less lanky legs and arms to catch hold off for subs! I’m going to go with Achilles on this and I think he gets ahold of one of those lanky limbs of Winston’s!

Main Event

Lightweight CSS Round 1: #3 vs. #15

Tua Graves (4-3-1) vs. Vinicius Verreira (2-1-0)

Our Main Event of the night features two kids going at it in the Semi-Finals of the Lightweight Sorter Series! The other pair of semi-finalists will be having their contest a week from this event, as one of them was taking part in the TWGC which prevented scheduling them for this weekend.

Vinicius Verreira has surprised everybody in this tournament to date. He came in as the #15 seed, defeated the #2 seed in a very talented Demi Achilles, then went on to defeat a dangerous Veljko Bakocevic in the second round to make it to this point. He is not to be taken lightly! To call him an underdog would be a huge mistake, as while he may be that based upon seed, his skills in this one actually give him the advantage in this matchup! He has competent boxing, wonderful Muy Thai, superb wrestling and a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu! Wow…that’s a pretty complete package. All of his wins have come via strikes…and they have come FAST! Not a single fight has gone past a minute…and one of them was ended in 10 seconds! Yeah…um, did I say WOW?

Graves is no slouch. That’s something we should make clear. He has very competent wrestling and a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu. He’s also 24 years old and was training from a very early point relative to most fighters in this org, much less just the division. He’s worked his way through this Sorter Series tournament with deadly technique in submissions! An americana last fight versus Conor Notorious and a guillotine before that against Erik Versteeg, a beauty that earned him Sub of the Night I might add! But…now he faces a truly formidable test…yes, he has sub skills. But Verreira has a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu as well, although we don’t know if it’s offensive at all, or just defensive. Even if it’s defensive…wow, that could make this a tough night for Graves. And that’s assuming he can get past those very dangerous hands of Verreira’s in standup!

This is a very dangerous, very tough fight for our #3 seed this evening. One he may have been hoping somebody else could prevent before it got to this point!

What about it Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Verreira via TKO (Strikes)

Those hands of Verreira’s have proven to be deadly…and that brown belt may prevent him from being taken advantage of on the ground. The complete skill set in play here for Verreira is hard to look past. If Graves wins this one, he will have truly earned it and we should be bowing down to the man who will go to the finals and represent this division in its first title match. But if he wants to do that, he has to get past this very dangerous opponent first. But I’m calling this for Verreira until somebody can take him down here at Sucker Punch!

*********

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

The Lightweights are back in action with a little bonus action from some friends and family brought in from other divisions, haha! This night may start out a little slow due to the condition of a couple fighters, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be fireworks in those matches too, so if you like finishes, those are some ones to see for sure! But get in those seats sooner than later, because the matches only get better and you won’t want to miss the action!

Enjoy the show folks, and see you soon…and in the meantime…

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series 355k+ style!

Sucker Punch Preview

Lightweight Cockshot Sorter Series: SEMI-Finals

Well hello there again Sucker Punch fans! Well, we now know at least one of our Light Heavyweight Sorter Series Finallists! The other one will be revealed to us next weekend. Along with that, there was some amazing action for the majority of our Light Heavyweights last night, as well as a very good Welterweight match thrown in for a change of pace!

So now it’s time for us to look back on the event from two nights ago and see what all went down over at the Bondi Outdoor Arena in Sydney! I’m Hare Rumpler and I’m joined by my partner and analyst, Donkey “Dan” as well as our wonderful media correspondent, Suzy Sucker Punch.

I’m ready to get right into thing, but first let’s hear a word or two about our merchandise partner and sponsor…

http://mmatycoon.com/images/company/logo/1584375781SWN.jpg

Do you find that you’re resting your fighters too often? Two, three, maybe even 4 times a week sometimes? If that’s the case, you’re probably not supplementing their training, and if you are I’m thinking you’re not doing it with Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q, which is Shadow Warrior Nutrition’s outstanding energy loss reduction supplement. It’s the best money can buy and will keep your fighter in the gym training rather than sitting days out resting! Stop on over there today, you will NOT be disappointed!

Now, let's get to it!

Bonus Middleweight Sparring Bout

Aleksei Yahontov Defeats Luca Romano via Unanimous Decision

Two of my own fighters here Donkey, both determined to go out there and show me what they have, and help me decide if either or both of them are worth keeping in the stable…and which I might use for the Middleweight tourney that’s being held by one of MMATycoon’s favorites, Rei!

Well, turns out Luca Romano isn’t much of a prize. He lost the fight, which doesn’t matter so much, but in doing so showed the man has extremely low morale and confidence! Ouch. Not a keeper, not by any stretch. Then, adding insult to injury, no pun intended…he showed he also tends to cut! Wow. Double whammy. Too bad too, this guy had a 4.0% or 6.00 learning speed!

Yahontov isn’t a definite keeper long term. But he looks like he might at least be usable for the tournament. Good Chin, decent learning speed, we just don’t know about his morale but really no time left to keep creating fighters, gotta get training!

Anything Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

That tends to cut is a killer, combined with that morale drop, wow. That guy is just a dumpster fire…a fast learning dumpster fire…but still a dumpster fire. Dang shame. Let’s hope Yahontov really has some great morale and confidence going on or it could be a rough tournament!

Lightweight Undercard Bout #1

Jank Stank Defeats Erik Versteeg via TKO (Strikes)

Hmm…not counting the sparring match that opened the card…and that Donkey didn’t bother picking for…shall we start a count on his correct picks from this card now? Why not! ONE! Yep, he’s off to a perfect 1 for 1 start.

Versteeg was aggressive right from the bell in this fight, but unfortunately it didn’t turn into anything worthwhile for him. A head kick, that he slipped trying to land…a failed clinch…a failed takedown attempt…and another failed clinch. And then Stank decided it was his turn! BOOM, a head kick that stumbles Versteeg and puts his ass on the canvas early, with Stank pouncing at the opportunity to take the top! With Versteeg reeling and trying to get his bearings after that kick to the head, Stank started dropping some nasty bombs, an elbow here, a big left there…ouch.

To his credit, with Versteeg basically just covering and trying not to take more punishment, Stank actually looked like, “Dude, ref, why you not stopping this thing?”. But, if the ref ain’t stopping, you can’t either, so he unloaded a few more…which I think most people in the arena felt were unnecessary punishment that Versteeg really shouldn’t have had to take. Finally the ref did his job, and this thing was ALLLLL OVER.

Well Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

I say it every time. Sure, sometimes a fighter will overcome a disadvantage from low morale or energy, but the majority of the time, I’m going to be right when I say they’re not going to profit from coming in unprepared. Versteeg came into this low on both, not horribly so, but enough that his manager didn’t do him any favors. And the poor bastard found himself no longer with a manager after this fight, as his manager sacked him. I would have turned it around and sacked the manager instead first if I was this kid! Good job by Stank to stay sharp and take advantage of the situation, a much needed win for him!

Lightweight Undercard Bout #2

Corona Virus Defeats Ko Artist via TKO (Strikes)

TWO! Make this 2 for 2 for Donkey! Yep, he’s racking up the picks on this card already folks!

This was a strange one for Artist right out of the gate. Clinch, break clinch, clinch, break clinch! Ok, so he was able to clinch up, despite his lack of confidence coming in. But…why breaking it so quickly without doing something with it? That was where he had the advantage, but yet, he never actually exploited his advantage in that position! He attempted to clinch up 12 times, succeeding half the time. Yet…he never threw a single punch, knee, elbow, anything while in there. WHAT?!?! Instead, he’s break the clinch, go with trying head kicks…which almost missed every single time bar pair of them, out of thirty attempted.

For his part, Virus did what he needed to do, which is mostly just accept what came to him and take advantage of the situation by boxing whenever he had the chance. He landed a little over half his strikes, enough to eventually where down Artist until he couldn’t take any more. Finally, a nice right from Virus…and a follow-up uppercut that looked like a vicious shot…and it was all over, shots coming in a barrage until the ref stopped this one!

Donkey, what say you sir...?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Artist was active and energetic in this one, but for the most part it seemed wasted effort. We’re not sure if the morale left him lacking the drive to do much with it, or if the strategy the manager used with him just wasn’t explained right to Artist, but whatever happened it didn’t get results. Congrats to Virus, who needed a win finally to get himself closer to .500 and on the right track!

Lightweight Undercard Bout #3

Rey Bargos Defeats Conor Notorious via KO (Punch)

THREE!!! Yep, there he goes, 3 for 3 on this picks so far folks! Donkey is ripping off the picks in this one and probably should have also played the lottery the other night! Well, Donkey may have TECHNICALLY gotten this pick right, but it was by dumb luck, let me tell you!

Rey Bargos and his manager came into this fight claiming that this was a “now or never, win or die” type scenario. He was going to win this thing, or it was time to look into another occupation. They indicated they put in a very focused, driven camp and were certain that they had done everything possible to give Bargos the chance to stick to this thing!

Now, when I said that Donkey got this one correct, but that it was dumb luck, what I meant was…this thing didn’t go like either of us thought it would! These two warriors stood and banged for two and a half rounds! No clinch attempts, no takedown attempts, nope…just stand and go at it! Now, that being the case, we really, really would have thought that Notorious would have the advantage, being the stronger boxer of the two. But Notorious came into this a little low on energy…and while I’m not certain that played in heavily to the way this match went…it certainly can’t be dismissed as a possibility.

Notorious was super aggressive throughout the fight and ended up throwing 64 head punches, 18 to the body and a half dozen combos. As well as 8 leg kicks. However, he only landed a total of five of those strikes, three to the head and 2 to the legs, over the course of the two and a half rounds! On the flip side, Bargos was more restrained, but also much more effective in his striking. He landed 20 of 24 to the head and 22 of 31 to the body! Wow.

Bargos’ counter game was on point through the fight and it got results! You have to wonder if he specifically trained strike defense and punches leading up into this one. I’m thinking at least the strike d, because his defense was spectacular!

Donkey, what do you have for us…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

I was right! And I was wrong. Bargos was laser focused and his camp really came into this thing ready to come away with the W! They said that this was the best camp they’ve had, that he was ready to give his best, if that was good enough, and that they would be able to walk away win or lose, heads held high. Well, they accomplished what they set out to, and have a win to boot on top of it! Great preparation, surprising strategy, but hey, it worked! It’s still shocking to me that Notorious was out-boxed in this one though!

Suzy was down cage side and was there to catch Bargos as he exited the victor…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Rey, your first victory, not only here at Sucker Punch, but in your career, and it was a definitive statement that you went out there and did it toe to toe, head to head! In the week leading up to this your manager told us how hard you’ve been working and how focused this camp was. He also mentioned that this could be a career deciding fight for you. How are you feeling now after this big win?

Rey Bargos: I wanted this one badly. I know how hard I've worked. The training camps, the money spent on high level sparring partners, it was all worth it. This is just the beginning for me, back in the gym and back on the grind for relevancy!

Suzy Sucker Punch: Guys, Rey has clearly been re-energized and is ready to set his sights on success! Sometimes life can take big turns on one single event. Tonight, this may have been Rey’s event!

Lightweight Undercard Bout #4

Rock Lee Defeats Sho Pereyra via Unanimous Decision

FOUR! Donkey, you’re on fire bud! That makes 4 for 4 with Donkey’s calls in the preview for this card, and there’s no stopping him at this point ladies and gents!

This was a very, very confusing fight for me Donkey. Honestly. So Lee won this one going away with the judges, easily taking all three rounds. He scored a ton of points with the three folks sitting at that table over there in standup. But…this match went all over the place! The part that confuses me, is why…? So Lee attempted to clinch up four times in this fight, and succeeded once. But that’s ok, because Pereyra was cool with that idea, and clinched up eight times successfully himself…so basically, this thing ended up in the clinch nine times over the course of three rounds. Yet…they did nearly nothing while in the clinch.

A lot of stalling, a shot here or there, and for Pereyra, a bunch of takedown attempts (both in and out of the clinch). Ok, so they wanna be on the ground, at least Pereyra does? Er, well, sorta…maybe not? Not much in the way of shots on the ground, only one sub attempt from Lee actually…wow…so what gives? Well, basically it was a lot of each of them trying to gain position and exert dominance, but neither seeming to be able to do it against the other, both technically or physically. A credit to both of their skills? Or an indictment of such…you be the judge!

This thing ended up going three rounds like that, and obviously the fans were good with the battle going on, as it got a reasonably decent rating with them! So it was no Usman fight…I guess! Haha.

Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

It turns out we might have been on the right track with this one after all. We called Lee for having the overall better skillsets, at least from a primary perspective. We suspected maybe that would give him the advantage in this one, and clearly, he did have that, as he landed a ton more shots in standup. But we also might have been correct on Pereyra’s secondaries and/or physicals, as he was able to hang in there for three rounds and hold his own in everything except when it came to boxing. Good on Lee for getting the win, good on Pereyra for now getting taken out and finished in this, and refusing to let Lee dominate him in the clinch or on the ground.

Suzy was up by the Suites where Yamashita Craven was watching his young warrior Rock Lee finish his fight. She grabbed him for a few words…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Mr. Craven, Lee had his hands full out there. He managed to really take over in the striking department, but this one surprisingly went the distance. What are your thoughts on the fight and the result?

Yamashita Craven: Rock Lee picked Sho apart tonight. We expected more of a challenge from him, but it seems like Lee's striking is on a higher level than lots of his competition here at Sucker Punch. It's too bad he lost his first fight, because he is quite skilled and has a lot of potential.

Suzy Sucker Punch: Well, if he keeps performing like this going forward, I’m sure that first fight will be long forgotten in the end! Congrats on another win for your fighter!

Welterweight Main Card Bout

Konrad Wagner Defeats Alex Driver via KO (Punch)

As we move into the top of the card…FIVE! Yep, he’s now 5 for 5 peeps! Donkey, what a night of calls for you buddy!

We talked about how Driver came in a little off both with morale and energy for this fight. Not exactly, as we said, putting the best foot forward for a chance at a win. Well, before this one even reached the end of Round 1, not only was he just about gassed out already and ready to be put down by Wagner, but he’d failed to connect on everything except for a single head kick and one to the body. He did clinch up once, but he also failed to do it four other times, so yeah, a ton of wasted energy, and he didn’t really have it to spare in the first place.

Wagner on the other hand came in prepared, and was connecting on most everything he threw out there. At separation, he tagged Driver to the head 10 of 13 tries, 3 for 3 to the body and was able to clinch up the one time he tried. In the clinch, he was the only one able to mount any effective offense, going to the head five times and body three.

Ultimately all those failed attempts by Driver, along with the meticulous wearing down from the shots both in and out of the clinch from Wagner, led to Driver being tenderized and ready for the finish! Driver, who went to the well for another kick, missed again and this time Wagner countered with a huge left that saw Driver in La La Land before he even hit the mat! Over and out!

How about that Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Driver didn’t have the energy to stay in this one…nor the confidence to use what energy he had early on effectively. Between the two, he was gassed out and at the mercy of Wagner’s hands before long. It’s not surprising that this one didn’t make it to the second round. Wagner continues to impress as a young fighter and things will only move up…and get more difficult…from here!

Lightweight Main Card Bout #1

Valery Bokov Defeats Mike Snot via Submission (Armbar)

Yury Bagrov mentioned to Suzy that Bokov had been training and fine tuning his wrestling skills circus bears back home leading up to this fight! WOW! I don’t know if Donkey knew about that and it swayed his pick to Bokov or not, but…SIX! Yep, Donkey is now 6 for 6 in his picks for this card!

We really thought that this was going to be a good one going in! A top notch striker like Snot going against a very talented ground fighter like Bokov, what’s not to like? Well, this fight lasted almost a full two rounds…falling just three seconds shy of that! Which is very surprising, given that we thought that Snot might tire out early if this thing got out of the first round, with him having come in a little of on energy. But that didn’t seem to be the case, as he didn’t look fatigued, even right up to the end!

Snot was honestly doing well in this one when it was standing toe to toe. He was landing a decent amount of strikes and they seemed to have some good stuff behind them, but Bokov was able to shake them off which was impressive. The spinning back fist early in the first really had the crowd ooh’ing and ahh’ing!

Just before the minute mark, Bokov got his first takedown against Snot, and that was something I thought was definitely going to turn into big trouble for Snot! We had said that once this went to the ground, it was going to be an issue for Snot and Bokov was likely to have his way. Snot did a very god job though of controlling the situation, well enough that the ref stood it back up! Great job there. It was only a matter of time before the situation repeated itself though, just before the three minute mark, and once down Bokov got to work on the sub attempts. Snot again surprised everybody by fending off three attempts and making it to the bell!

Having made it through the worst it looked like Snot was developing some confidence and, on the other hand, might be shaking Bokov’s confidence in a finish! The second round came, Snot came out and landed a few nice shots, and it looked like this thing was ON, especially with Bokov starting to bleed! Bokov got the takedown again though, just before the minute mark…and this is where things just ran away from Snot a bit. He wasn’t able to force this one back to the feet, and with so much time in the round…well, that’s a long time to defend against subs. Bokov spammed not one or two, but eight of them at that point, finally finding the magic arm triangle that would finish this thing with only three seconds remaining in the round!

Anything else to add to this Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Yes, Snot came THAT close to living to see another bell and having a shot in the third round…honestly, impressive given how long he was down there fending off Bokov! This one went way longer than I would have guessed, and that right there is a credit to Snot for hanging in there and showing some decent defensive skills on the ground. Skills we didn’t think he had! Good for him. I know that with it still being an L for him, he’s not going to feel good about hearing me say good job, but it’s something good to take away! For Bokov, he moves to .500 now and just needs to establish some consistency going forward as he continues to develop!

As Valery Bokov was heading to the locker room after the win Suzy managed to pull him aside for a few moments…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Valery, I know you’re tired and want to get in there, refreshed and cleaned up. But this was a big win tonight. Your manager actually referred to this as the toughest fight of your career heading into the event tonight. Did everything go according to plan?

Valery Bokov: The fight wasn't easy. But if I can outwrestle a bear from Moscow Circus I can defo outwrestle a human being. Even in the standup I felt like I was connecting with my punches. The hard work pays off. Me and my camp we train at Average Joe's gym in Helsinki. That's our Finnish neighbours, it's half a day from Kaliningrad. Big thank you to my coaches, my training camp and everyone who supported me today. Suzy do you know where can I get Russian vodka here in Sydney for the afterparty?

Suzy Sucker Punch: Well, I’ve been told the after party will be in full swing within the next hour back at the event’s hotel! I’d say walk up to that bar, point to the top shelf and tell them to put it on Hare’s tab! You’ve earned it!

Lightweight Main Card Bout #2

Two Two Defeats Veljko Bakocevic via KO (Punch)

Wow Donkey! There have been quite a few, three actually so far, KO’s via PUNCH in this one tonight! Talk about a night of entertainment for the fans! You know they love the big finishes, and a punch that takes a guy out is always something that gets them out of their seats in a hurry! Oh, and btw…this KO makes it..SEVEN! Yes, that’s right, you heard me…Donkey is now 7 for 7 in his picks from this card!

Two Two may have a few issues to deal with in terms of not feeling the love from his mother after she didn’t just tell him he was second once…but, um, twice...however, that certainly didn’t hold him back or keep him from taking it out on Veljko Bakocevic the other night!

We questioned whether Two could take his record of 3-1 from QFC fights and flip the switch for org fights, having the same or better success against non-QFC competition. Well, so far at least, the answer for this kid is a resounding “YES, yes, he can.”

Two started out early in the direction we thought he might go, taking it into the clinch. Bakocevic wanted nothing to do with that though, and broke free and back to arm’s length as soon as possible. A few seconds later, he did what was also expected, which was try to take this thing to the ground.

Now this is where Donkey was very wrong. Donkey thought that Bako’s lack of confidence would prevent him from getting the takedowns in the first place, leaving the advantage with Two. However, Bako proved he could get this thing to the ground after all. And then the sub attempts began. Now…perhaps this is where the lack of confidence and morale kicked in, or maybe Two just had prepared really well and had his sub defense on point! Because he survived not one but two sub attempts from Bako, and then even attempted one of his own!

Another sub attempt from Bakocevic, which he wasn’t able to finish against Two, and I’m not sure if he got frustrated and decided to scrub it…or what…but he decided to stand this thing back up! Now that was really surprising there, as he was definitely at a disadvantage there and needed to win this thing on the ground. Two clinched it up again in short order and about a minute later Bako seemed to lose focus…giving Two just the opportunity he needed to land a brutal right that sent Bako tumbling, covering and being saved by the ref!

Donkey, what do you have…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Once again Bakocevic falls victim to a good striker. The shocking part was that he had this fight where he wanted it and gave up his advantage! That was truly a crucial mistake and we’ll never know if he could have pulled out the victory had he not done that. Two did a great job defending when in a bad spot down there and bided his time well. He also kept Bako from becoming too comfortable or confident, pushing back with that sub attempt of his own and likely playing off Bakocevic’s lack of morale coming in. Good job getting the win and improving that record there for Two!

Co-Main Event

Lightweight Main Card Bout #3

Demi Achilles Defeats Piney Winston via Submission (Armbar)

Our Co-Main Event of the evening brought us a bit of a shocker there Donkey!!! Well, not for you…of course…as you go to EIGHT! A shocking 8 for 8 on the evening! So make that two shockers that this one brings us.

No, the shocking thing here wasn’t even so much that Achilles won this fight. It was HOW this fight went down. Make no mistake, Achilles is no slouch when it comes to submissions. But…Piney Winston has lived off of those things, and technically was the more accomplished Jiu Jitsu artist in this fight.

The way this things started, it looked like Achilles was intending to go in the direction we thought…trying to at least start this thing out on the feet and see if he could assert his dominance there and work Winston over. But Winston clinched up early, got a knee in there to Achilles body and while he had him on the defense, quickly pulled this thing to the canvas. Now no surprise there, we fully expected Winston to want to take this to the ground and work his submission magic down there, not expecting him to fear Achilles in that department.

And Winston was working it for sure. First an armbar attempt and then a triangle. Both denied by Achilles who, as we said, doesn’t exactly lack skills on the ground! But Winston was not going to be put off so easily and continued pressing, taking a shot at two more armbar subs against Achilles. Both…denied still. One minute in, and while Winston was focused on offense, Achilles was moving around, positioning while defending and managed to slip into half guard.

And then, with Winston focused, perhaps a bit too much it seems, on his next sub attempt…Achilles makes a beautiful move and slips fully into mount! Ok, now this is no longer a happy place for Winston! And now…it’s Achilles’ turn!

Achilles lands a few shoulder strikes, postures up…fakes Winston out a bit…and bam!!! Armbar! Oh damn…and on with a quickness and tight! And there goes the W slipping away from Winston as Achilles gets up, the victor!

Wow Donkey, that was amazing, eh…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

I don’t know what made me pick Achilles in this one, but I did like that he wasn’t quite as lanky as Winston and thought he’d catch one of those long limbs and take advantage of it! Honestly though, it didn’t look like he was posing too much of a threat…until…suddenly he was! This one may haunt Winston for a while I think, it’s one of those ones that you wake up thinking about. For Achilles, he overcomes a big test here and comes out roses! And with this win, puts himself right back up there in this division and in the conversation! Wow.

Demi Achilles came out of the cage excited about his victory, and Suzy was there to share the mic with him…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Demi, that was an amazing turn of events in there! I think everybody here thought he’d won that match, but it turns out you were playing chess while he was playing checkers it seems! Now that you’ve re-established yourself as one of the top players in this division, what is your focus going forward?

Demi Achilles: Wins Wins Wins. I know it will keep coming.

Suzy Sucker Punch: Well, there you have it folks…the focus of a future champion perhaps? Time will tell!

Main Event

Lightweight CSS Round 1: #3 vs. #15

Vinicius Verreira Defeats Tua Graves via KO (Punch)

Our Main Event of the night didn’t last long. But boy did it bring the fireworks!!!

We were discussing in the preview whether the brown belt for Verreira would prevent him from getting taken advantage of on the ground by Graves. Well, one way to ensure you don’t get taken advantage of on the ground is to simply end it well before it ever has a chance to get there! And that’s exactly what Verreira did in this fight! It took just 44 seconds of action…two stuffed takedown attempts from Graves, a key thing for Verreira to be able to do…and a couple well placed shots!

After Graves made his first takedown attempt right out of the bell and Verreira fended him off Graves took a nasty shot to the body that hurt him. He made another attempt for the takedown, but who knows whether it was a token attempt or not and if the prior shot was still affecting him?...but that failed attempt earned him another shot from Verreira, this one right down the pipe on a counter.

The next shot from Verreira was an open handed slap! Now, the play by play guys were critiquing Verreira about that one, going on about bad form and technique and keeping those hands closed. Me, Donkey…I think that that was a message! This is Sucker Punch, and I think Verreira basically just punked Graves right there, almost to let him know…”heads up son, I’m about to end this!”.

And that’s what he did. For whatever reason, Graves looked away for a split second…it was only a quick glance, but damn, sometimes that’s all it takes especially against a skilled opponent! Verreira dropped him like a bad habit before he even knew what hit him, and Graves spent the next couple minutes trying to figure out who was who!

Big ending on the night there, eh Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

In the preview, I said…”Those hands of Verreira’s have proven to be deadly…”. Graves should have heeded that warning and been more focused for sure! Verreira is an issue for anybody who has to face him. And now he moves on to the Finals! So, the bad news for Graves? He takes a loss with this one. The good news? Verreira is no longer HIS issue…for now. Oh, and Hare, I noticed you failed to mention…NINE! This one makes 9 for 9 on the evening…yes, I wish I’d played the lottery the other night when I went and made these calls!

*********

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

We have one half of the Lightweight Finals determined and a ton of great fights under our belt from the other night! It was a lot of fun and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as Donkey and I did! Keep up the hard work, get those fighters ready to go, and we’ll see you next time!

And in the meantime, don’t forget…

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series 355k+ style!

Sucker Punch Preview

Middleweight Cockshot Sorter Series: Finals

Machado vs. Routerhead

Hello out there Sucker Punch fans! Hare Rumpler here along with our analyst, Donkey “Dan”, and our media correspondent, the enchanting Suzy Sucker Punch! I am SO excited to be bringing you this preview and preparing for this the card we have coming in just over two day’s time! Why? Because to date, this will undoubtedly be our biggest, most exciting and certainly most important card we’ve had here at Sucker Punch Pro Series! This is it…we finally belt a champion!

The Middleweights started things out for our org when we first got going. And they will now be the first ones to crown a king, to put one man up on a pedestal…or more accurately, throne…and paint a GIANT target on his back! Because while being the champ brings all the glory, we all know that it also brings all of the pressure to try to hold onto the championship with every other talented fighter in your division gunning for you!

So yes, I’m so friggin’ excited I might pee myself Donkey! Um…Donkey?...why you moving away again? C’mon man, you know it’s just a saying…usually. I’ve used it before, but never done it have I? See, you’re safe, get back over here buddy! We have a Featherweight bout starting off the evening for us and then we’ll move on to eight other electrifying Middleweight bouts before finally getting to this championship fight between Wanderson Machado and Vinchito Routerhead! Damn, so exciting…I think I might have let a little slip this time Donkey! Ha! Now I know how to get rid of you when I want to.

So without further delay, let’s get into this thing right after we mention our merchandise partner and sponsor!

http://mmatycoon.com/images/company/logo/1584375781SWN.jpg

When you think about training your fighters, one of the biggest concerns is keeping them in the gym and actively training, am I right? And you can’t do that if they have to be stopping to recover and rest for sessions here and sessions there! That is why you need to visit our sponsor, Shadow Warrior Nutrition, and specifically grab some of their Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q. It is literally the best energy loss reduction supplement money can buy and will keep your fighter in the gym training rather than sitting days out resting! Stop on over there today, you will NOT be disappointed!

Now, let's get to it!

Featherweight Undercard Bout

Dino Ebedi (0-0-0) vs. Alex Kozlovski (4-2-0)

Our first fight this evening will see two young Featherweights making their Sucker Punch debut. Actually, for Dino Ebedi, this is his professional debut as well!

Alex Kozlovski comes to us here at Sucker Punch with a 4-2 record. While with the GDL, he notched a 3-1 and is coming off a knockout win over Ren Wuying. He’ll have the advantage in boxing and wrestling in this fight against Ebedi, so we’ll see if he can continue his trend of finishes with the hands! Some of his recent finishes have been extremely fast, so it will be fun to see if that was just due to level of competition thrown at him, or if he can keep walking through folks. Ebedi might be the first to have something to say about that!

One thing that will certainly give Ebedi a quick advantage in this contest is having Alex Kozlovski come in somewhat low on morale. Right now, he looks to be at about 60%, which certainly is not ideal. Ebedi will have the advantage in Muy Thai and Jiu Jitsu, so I’m expecting him to clinch up and then try to initiated a takedown or pull guard. Whether he goes for some GnP or submission action, we’ll have to wait and see!

So who are you going with here Donkey, as if I need to ask…?

Donkey’s Pick: Ebedi via TKO (Strikes)

You probably didn’t really need to ask there Hare, you know me well enough by now. Kozlovski comes into this low on morale and confidence, and for that reason I’ll be going the other way. Ebedi gets this one standing up, and if Kozlovski doesn’t get this one into an area where he can control the action fast, and instead leaves this one standing at distance, Ebedi may end it early as well, chalking up another quick finish for his record! I think he gets his first professional win to start his career.

Suzy spoke with Rob Hell, Dino Ebedi’s manager on the phone earlier this week before they started getting ready to head to Sydney…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Mr. Hell, I want to thank you for always being willing to take our call and speak about the upcoming fights for your guys. I’m sure you guys are working hard right now fine tuning things, how do you feel Ebedi’s preparation is going for this upcoming fight?

Rob Hell: Dino's opponent is very dangerous and experienced. Dino is a cubehead, he likes to read books. I don’t even understand why he’s in the cage and not at a university. Hahaha. His Hungarian nickname in English means growling. He is a little mad dog who will now not only grumble but also bite!

Suzy Sucker Punch: Sounds like Hare might need to invest in some treats for after the fight just to keep Ebedi in line…pass that along please Donkey!

Middleweight Undercard Bout #1

Jacques Piaget (1-2-0) vs. Daniel Son Karate (0-4-0)

Our second undercard bout of this evening will see Jacques Piaget and his 1-2 record face off against Daniel Son Karate, who at 0-4 is still seeking his first professional victory.

Piaget has a trend of alternating losses with wins at this point, with his last three being L,W,L. His one win was over Crisis Smoove and came via a head kick knockout. Thrilling victory to be sure! His losses have both been the result of submissions. He’s a Muy Thai fighter who can also get the job done while boxing.

Piaget likely won’t have to worry about the submission danger this evening as Daniel Son Karate is almost solely a boxer who has seen two of his four losses come via submission. The ground is probably the last place he wants to be, although with a blue belt advantage here, you never know! Daniel Son Karate gives up the advantage before he steps into the cage this evening as both his morale and energy are not topped off and won’t be by fight time.

Donkey, I can already see your eyes rolling over there, you know that right…?

Donkey’s Pick: Piaget via TKO (Strikes)

My eyes weren’t rolling Hare, they were simply searching for a reason that somebody would continually come into the fight unprepared! Anyways, yes, Karate will be at a disadvantage, and that certainly doesn’t do any favors for a guy who is 0-4 and really needs a win. It’s unlikely he’ll get that tonight I think. Now, rumor has it that Karate has also more or less thrown in the towel and will be sacked by his manager after this fight and the completion of his contract. So perhaps he’s just going through the motions for one more payday! Piaget may even up his record at 2-2 after this and hopefully this is his chance to gain some momentum if he does.

Middleweight Undercard Bout #2

Al Briscoe (1-4-0) vs. Jim Beam (0-3-0)

I hate to say this, but this next match is almost a kind of “it doesn’t really matter” match. Hopefully, it has some cool action and is fun for the fans though!

Al Briscoe is no longer managed and will be released from his contract here at Sucker Punch after this fight. He was formerly managed by a cheating multi as it turns out. Jim Beam has unfortunately struggled, which is a shame, as I love the name! His manager has already informed us here at Sucker Punch that he won’t be extending his contract either, and his days of employment as a mixed martial artist are probably coming to an end with this fight.

All of that being said, surprisingly these two both step into the cage tonight mostly fueled up and ready to go! That I did not expect there Donkey. But I’m thrilled that that’s the case, maybe we will get some great action from these two in their last fight!

Donkey, anything…?

Donkey’s Pick: Beam via TKO (Strikes)

Congrats on completely leaving it to me to discuss any tendencies these guys have Hare! Anyways, Beam is a well-rounded fighter and being that he doesn’t have a win, who knows where he might try to go with this one to get one before walking away. My guess would be that he clinches when he can, and possibly takes this to the ground, although there’s no guarantee of that. But he has clinched in most of his fights before this. Briscoe is a boxer and wrestler, although doesn’t hold much of an advantage in either in this one. In his one win over DB Cooper, he did it via a takedown and some ground and pound. Look for him to do the same here. I’m thinking that without management though, Beam has the advantage.

Earlier this week, Yamashita Craven reached out to Suzy about the upcoming fight for Jim Beam…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Hello, Sucker Punch Media Relations, who am I speaking with please?

Yamashita Craven: Hi there Suzy, we know you usually call us later in the week closer to the event, but we’re going to be really tied up leading up to things, so I wanted to let you know what’s going on with Jim. We've been telling Jim Beam that he really shouldn't go through with this fight, but he just replies by saying "I do what I f*cking want bro!" So, this will probably be his last fight with us as his management. We're now telling him to just make this fight as exciting as possible - maybe he'll help this fantastic org put on a good card.

Suzy Sucker Punch: Well, that’s fantastic and you know we always hope for maximum excitement from all of our fights. Beam will be missed, let’s see if he can go out on a high note!

Middleweight Undercard Bout #3

Angenor De Oliveira (2-2-0) vs. Kirill Krasnov (2-4-0)

Our next undercard fight of the night is between Kirill “Arrow” Krasnov and Angenor De Oliveira. Oliveira comes into this with his morale low, probably hovering between 55-65%. So it’s not empty, and he won’t lack complete confidence, but there is a chance it factors in. That’s not good when you’re on a two fight losing streak and desperately need to break out of that slump!

To be fair to Oliveira, he did step up into not only one meat grinder, but two in a row during the Middleweight Sorter Series that resulted in those two losses. First, in the second round he ran into Bill Sherman, who won and looked like he was going to be a strong competitor throughout. I was shocked then when Sherman’s manager went MIA and we found ourselves offering Oliveira a shot to step back into the tourney for the semi-finals, which he did without hesitation. Unfortunately, there he met a very talented and troublesome Vinchito Routerhead who won and moved on to the Finals. So yes, he’s lost twice, but he’s also had two very, very tough matchups. So the question will be, can he get back to his winning ways this week against an opponent that was picked specifically for the even match-up they present to one another?

Krasnov will be the man on the other side of the cage tonight. He’s 2-4 and has also had some tough matches of late, losing in the second round of the Sorter Series to Wanderson Machado, who will represent in the finals against Routerhead, and then losing last month to Longsun Zhao via Head Kick KO. Tonight, it will be fun to see if he can also reach back to his debut for Sucker Punch and get back to his winning ways, perhaps via another stunning submission like he did when he first stepped onto the scene here!

Both De Oliveira and Krasnov have purple belts in Jiu Jitsu, but Krasnov has the stronger wrestling which should give him the advantage on the ground and help him with that potential submission victory he’ll likely want so badly. De Oliveira’s first two professional fights also were victories via submission, so while he may not have the advantage on the ground, I expect he’s going to think that’s still his best chance at grabbing the W tonight.

Donkey, what say you sir...?

Donkey’s Pick: Krasnov via Submission (Armbar)

I definitely think this fight makes it to the ground, probably sooner than later there Hare. And once it does, we’re quickly going to find out if Krasnov’s wrestling will give him a definitive advantage or not. That’s not why I’m picking him here though, I’m also picking him due to the lowish morale that Oliveira has. I think that the combination of the two factors may decide this one.

*********

Middleweight Undercard Bout #4

Scott Summers (1-2-0) vs. D B Cooper (2-4-0)

The final undercard bout of the evening will see D B Cooper go up against Scott Summers in our fourth Middleweight pairing. Donkey, don’t even look. You’re not going to be a happy camper my man. That’s because D B Cooper comes into this thing with his morale on empty. Sigh. So needless to say, I know who Donkey will be picking in this one!

This will be Summers’ third fight with us here at Sucker Punch and so far he has had split results in his first two fights. He defeated Bishop Templeton via decision in his first but then dropped an opportunity against Brendan Moker when he lost via TKO almost two months ago. Since then, he’s been training away waiting for his next opportunity, with an extra month in between thanks to his potential matchup disappearing on us.

Summers has proficient boxing, strong wrestling and a blue belt in BJJ. In his win over Templeton, he looked to take the fight to the ground a couple times and was active with his submission attempts when down there. He too is missing some morale this evening, probably about 20%, but not nearly as far off as Cooper.

Cooper isn’t only low on his morale. He’s also about 10% or so off on his energy at this time, but there is still time today to remedy that, somewhat. We’ll see if he does. He’s a Muy Thai artist with respectable wrestling, a good combination to have together. He’s won and lost via TKO and KO in the past, with his most recent fight against Jim Beam last month going in his favor. It’s interesting to note that to date, he really hasn’t relied upon the clinch much, and actually has purposely broken from it in at least one fight. So perhaps he prefers separation more despite the skills in MT. What he won’t want is to let this go to the ground tonight, because while he has decent wrestling skills, he only has a white belt in BJJ so you have to question whether he will be able to fend off the sub attempts that will likely come from Summers.

What direction do you think this goes in Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Summers via Submission (Kimura)

Again, the reason for my pick here is very simple. Cooper lacks any confidence and morale whatsoever coming into this and is completely unfocused. Therefore, I don’t see him being able to prevent the takedowns and when that happens, he also may not have the confidence or heart to stop the ensuing submission from Summers. With a win, Summers can even up his record at 2-2 and try to start establishing some consistency with wins!

*********

Middleweight Main Card Bout #1

Brendan Moker (2-1-0) vs. Nyah Hirst (1-0-0)

As we head into the main card for the night, this is what I’m talking about Donkey!!! Two gentlemen who are very much prepared for this fight, at least from a fundamentals standpoint! Both topped off in energy, both packing plenty of morale and confidence, both ready to get in there and make their best play for a win! See, it really doesn’t take much to make Donkey and I happy around here, really!

Moker did well in the tournament, dispatching Ionel Balaban first and then sending off Scott Summers in the second round. Unfortunately, he ran into a buzz saw known as Wanderson Machado in the semi-finals and that’s where his run came to an end. However, he proved himself more than competent up to that point. While relative newcomer to Sucker Punch Nyah Hirst may technically have a better developed primary skill set on paper, Moker has earned the right to face better competition to see if he can hang up there with the big boys in the division.

It’s important to note that Hirst is also a much younger fighter than Moker, having been training since only the 361k class of fighters. That training time may give Moker the advantage in other areas such as physicals and secondaries, or it could just be that Hirst is THAT fast a study. If Moker can get past this young kid before him, then he’ll have proven he’s ready to step up to most in the second tier of the division. If not, perhaps Hirst is going to be a bit of a prodigy! Hirst will have the definitive advantage in the primaries, specifically with his wrestling, MT and some boxing.

Donkey, got a pick…?

Donkey’s Pick: Moker via TKO (Strikes)

I think this is the first really tough one of the night where I have to sit back and think about this some Hare! And that’s awesome, love that. Moker and Hirst have both chosen to stand and bang so far in their prior fights against others. So I fully expect this one to stay on the feet and turn into a war! I love Hirst here, with his scrappy attitude and “come at me bro!” approach for such a young kid. And he does appear to have the advantage on paper. I’m going to go with the more veteran fighter here who showed a lot in the Sorter Series though and say that perhaps Moker can show the kid, even though both are 19, a thing or two still!

*********

Middleweight Main Card Bout #2

Ivan Smirnov (3-0-0) vs. Buster Scruggs (2-1-0)

Moving on we have a couple of nicely accomplish kids so far in their fighting careers. Ivan Smirnov comes into this 3-0 and will put his perfect record on the line against Buster Scruggs, who is 2-1 after dropping his last fight against Psiris Fuhren last month.

Scruggs approaches this fight in almost the same manner as he did last month, once again with the morale just a little off. Smirnov on the other hand is primed and ready to go! That doesn’t bode well for Scruggs, as last month when he came in with the same approach Donkey still picked him to win, despite his normal tendencies, and Scruggs dropped his first loss, letting Donkey down.

Scruggs does have the slight advantage here over Smirnov when it comes to primaries. He’s also older, so a decent chance that his physicals may be better developed. But Smirnov has proven to be a real badger when it comes to taking on the competition. Tonight Smirnov will be truly tested, as Scruggs is not to be overlooked or taken lightly.

Smirnov’s approach is usually pretty straightforward. He’s an opportunist once the fight gets to the canvas! He’ll try to work it there any way he can, and then once on the ground, he’ll mix it up with some GnP as well as sub attempts. And he’ll take the win either way, whichever works! Scruggs on the other hand typically wants to stand and box…but really seems to enjoy inflicting pain and punishment on his opponent. In his first ever fight, he took out an opponent with a granite chin, so this guy’s power must be respected! He will not want to end up on the ground with Smirnov in this one though, as the advantage immediately goes away once there.

The winner of this fight will face off against the winner of the fight right after this, Fuhren/Zhao…on next month’s card…and that winner will be next in line as top contender for the second title defense in this division! Big time stuff, so bring it boys!

Donkey, how about it…?

Donkey’s Pick: Smirnov via Submission (Armbar)

What’s that saying…fool me once, shame on you…fool me twice…um, shame on…well, hell you just can’t get fooled again! Yeah, Scruggs got me last time when I didn’t respect my unofficial rules on energy and morale. Not this time! I’m going with Smirnov because he comes into this prepared and I think the lack of confidence is going to lead to this one ending up on the ground. From there, this is Smirnov’s to lose.

*********

Middleweight Main Card Bout #3

Psiris Fuhren (3-0-0) vs. Longsun Zhao (3-0-0)

Now this one is exciting Donkey! Our last fight of the main card before the Main Events, and wow, two undefeated fighters squaring off and seeing who can go 4-0 and really start to set themself apart from the crowd! The winner of this fight will face off against the winner of the fight right before this, Smirnov/Scruggs…on next month’s card…and that winner will be next in line as top contender for the second title defense in this division! So yes, there is a lot on the line here, as well as in the last fight!

These two are so well matched it’s almost scary. Fuhren has the advantage in boxing, but Zhao has the wrestling advantage. Zhao has shown himself to be an opportunistic fighter, able to win in any way that presents itself as an option. He pulled off an armbar submission in his first fight against Daniel Son Karate, and then two KO’s back to back against Jim Beam and Kirill Krasnov, one via punch, the other via a kick to the head, garnering a Fight of the Night and a KO of the Night award in his short career.

Fuhren, as we mentioned, is also 3-0 but two of those wins came before he joined us here at Sucker Punch, one of which was in KT. He’s won via TKO and KO all three times, so this man likes to finish and he did so impressively against Buster Scruggs in his last fight, not a guy who normally would be an underdog in stand-up, yet Fuhren surprisingly took it to him in his own kitchen! Was that just a one night fluke for either of them, or was that a sign of what Fuhren brings to the table above and beyond even what Scruggs has? Time will definitely prove it one way or the other, but in this fight, I expect him to stay standing and try to win exactly the same.

Being that Fuhren has proven himself so dangerous in the standup, Zhao may very well choose to take this to the ground instead. Now, whether he does that as part of his managers planned strategy, or the manager leaves it up to the fighter to decide as the fight develops will be interesting to see!

Striker versus Striker. One with an ability to surprise on the ground. The other…well, you never know, maybe he does too and just hasn’t show it, or just has great defense! This will be fun Donkey!

Donkey, what do you think…?

Donkey’s Pick: Zhao via Submission (Armbar)

This one is so, so difficult to pick! I love Zhao’s flexibility in going with what will work. At the same time, Fuhren’s last victory over Scruggs should put the fear of god into most anybody given his 3-0 record so far and also his track record of TKO’s and KO’s, proving the hands are not a joke or a fluke! Dang…and, BOTH of these guys are FULLY prepared for this fight, great energy, great morale…I LOVE this fight. But, I’ve been hearing whispers that Fuhren might be a bit, well, shall we say maybe a tad arrogant and belittling his opponent tonight. Could he be overlooking this fight and taking it for granted, giving away and advantage to Zhao? I’m going to go that way, just for the fun of it!

Suzy met with Slick Gunderson and Psiris in the hotel lobby yesterday after they arrived for the event…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Hey guys, really great to see you both, this is an exciting week for Sucker Punch as we start heading into the championships for the Sorter Series! How are you guys feeling heading into things in the next day or so?

Psiris Fuhren: Well, Suzy first off, I'd just like to say what an honor it is to speak with you and how excited I am about my matchup with Longsun...

Slick Gunderson: Wait, wait, wait. I'll take it from here Psiris. Suzy, when the matchmakers called and told me they were offering Longsun Zhao as Psiris' next opponent, I didn't believe them at first. I literally choked on the donut I was eating. It got scary for a second. It took a few minutes for me to compose myself. I figured that dominating win over Buster Scrubs would be enough to catapult Psiris to the top of the division. Instead, we got Longsun Zhao, crusher of tomato cans. A 3-0 record looks pretty good if you don't look at the fact his opponents are a combined 2-11, and one of those wins is over a guy who was flipping tires over at Sam's Club before the pandemic. Zhao wants easy wins and that's fine. Psiris wants challenges. So Psiris will go in and do what he does and I promise you Zhao you're in for a looooooong night.

Suzy Sucker Punch: Wow, well, Zhao is getting zero respect here other than an acknowledgement that he’s 3-0! That should make things interesting tonight, but, Mr. Gunderson isn’t necessarily wrong…Psiris has earned a chance to be in the convo. I guess he just doesn’t realize what this fight really means yet! He will after this review boys, as you guys went into it pretty well up there Hare!

Co-Main Event

Middleweight Main Card Bout #4

Rob Tanner (9-2-0) vs. Tyrion Lannister (7-1-0)

Our Co-Main Event of the evening is a MONSTER! If it weren’t for the fact that we have a Championship Fight on the card tonight as the Main Event, this would be by far the biggest fight on the card, and that’s not a knock on the two fights that led up to this in any way!

But these two are battling it out for top contender as we speak outside the Middleweight Sorter Series tournament. Sure, the Sorter Series determined the two finalists who go for the Championship tonight, but hey, every champion needs to have a challenger lined up and waiting for him…well, this is the match that is going to give us that challenger! And Donkey, once again you’re going to be thrilled as they are both primed and ready to go, no deficiencies in morale or energy, top notch and ready to go at it baby!

Tanner is, frankly, a monster. He’s a 27 year old fighter managed by Rebel Sith and comes to us after previously fighting for HFC and SMASH, where he ran up five wins and two losses, with two wins coming from before that in the QFC. He’s faced some serious talent already, and has chased some talent away here in Sucker Punch as I’ve already had two fighters tuck tail and run away, asking not to take a match with him! That alone tells you the respect you need to give to a fighter with his skill sets and pedigree, and is why he’ll immediately fight to see if he’s worthy of being top contender.

Tanner will have the advantage in all major areas of MMA skills in this fight, with the exception of Jiu Jitsu, where Lannister is definitely the more skilled artist! There’s no doubt that Tanner will want to keep this fight on the feet, as Lannister is deadly on the ground, but has next to useless boxing and Muy Thai. However, if Lannister can avoid taking a shot that removes him from this contest early, and if he can manage to drag this fight to the canvas, Tanner could definitely find all of his advantages suddenly nullified and be fighting for his life in this one!

Lannister is 7-1 and has only lost that single fight to Vinchito Routerhead, a very talented fighter indeed. Vinchito Routerhead be fighting for the championship tonight, so yeah, Lannister may have lost to the future champ. All of Lannister’s other fights have been ended with him subbing the hell out of his opponent, so Tanner definitely needs to respect that and plan to avoid takedowns at all costs! He’s the true test for the likes of Tanner, and if he can get by Tanner, he definitely can prove that one fight is just one fight and he deserves the next title shot!

Well Donkey, it’s go time…what do you have…?

Donkey’s Pick: Lannister via Submission (Kimura)

This will NOT be the popular pick. Not by any stretch. Everybody else is talking about Tanner being the favorite in this fight and there being a reason why he’s been dodged for two months now. But, I don’t know…I have this nagging suspicion in the back of my mind that Lannister has made an adjustment or two since that loss to Routerhead, which was a very similar fight to this one. And, this time, maybe it goes to the ground and he gets that finish! Let’s see if the hair on the back of my neck is telling me something! Either way, whoever wins is deserving of the next title shot.

Middleweight CSS Championship Bout: #2 vs. #8

Wanderson Machado (4-0-0) vs. Vinchito Routerhead (3-0-1)

Here it is ladies and gentlemen!!! FINALLY…after four long months, that honestly felt like they flew by for me…we get to the top of the stairs…and we approach the Middleweight throne that has awaited the competitors from this Middleweight Sorter Series tournament! Now…down to only two men left…we get to see who will be our first ever Sucker Punch Pro Series Undisputed Middleweight Champion! I am so damned excited. I don’t know if I could be any more excited. Actually, well, I could be, because there’s one little disappointing thing about this fight that I’m shocked to have to now go into. But still!

Ok, so the caveat to all of this….Routerhead’s manager, Lionel R, after seeming to be pretty excited about this finals and all when I spoke to him just three weeks ago or so…has gone MIA. Wow. Not only has he gone missing for the past 10 days, but, his fighters…Routerhead included…have all gone untrained without a gym. So yes, Routerhead comes into this potentially without strategic planning by his manager, without that morale support and without having been training for an unknown about of time. The lack of recent training alone is immediately going to give him a disadvantage, as he won’t have the training bonus from ANYTHING going into this.

And, what makes this championship fight even more crazy, is the other part that we already knew…which is that Machado’s former manager, who got him into the Finals…John Welsh…left the game. So since then, Machado has gained a new manager, a very, very elite one btw…in #1 manager in Tycoon, Mac Little! Wow…now that is a HUGE turn of events!

Ok, so about the actual fight…Routerhead holds the advantage in this fight with his wrestling and Jiu Jitsu, with superb wrestling and a brown belt. Now, typically he has not used that belt for submissions. What he does…and does very well I might add…is take your sorry, hopefully god fearing ass to the ground…and then abuses you with ridiculously vicious ground and pound. Until you either cry like a baby for your mommy or the ref makes him stop the abuse. So there you have it, you’ve been warned Machado!

Machado on the other hand has the advantage in boxing and Muy Thai…slightly. It’s not a lot, but it could make a world of difference. Although, what needs to really make the world of difference for him tonight is his defense against takedowns, or his grappling defense and ability to transition and escape being on the ground if he ends up there. He does have respectable wrestling and a blue belt in BJJ, so he better hope that’s enough. Machado’s standard tactics are about as transparent as Routerhead’s based upon his past fights. While Routerhead intends to take you down and then abuse you, Machado intends to clinch you up…and then do the same! One way or another, these two men are going to try to bring the pain to each other this evening in the process of having one of them become…CHAMPION!

Donkey…this is the big one…no pressure…who do you have?

Donkey’s Pick: Routerhead via TKO (Strikes)

It’s almost insane for me to go against the top seed…and go with a guy who has no manager or training of late. But…wow, I do like the ability for Router to dominate on the ground. But if Machado gets him in the clinch, and if Router doesn’t have the ability to get out of it or create a takedown from the clinch, then this thing could turn against my pick very quickly! We’re going to have a champion tonight Hare! This is…about as exciting as it gets! And hopefully all is well with Lionel R and he comes back soon, he’s not exactly a new manager, so it’s strange to have him disappear like this.

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

Our Middleweights are back and a CHAMPION is on the horizon! There will be some huge battles tonight, and the main card especially is packed full of intense battles that have immediate near-term implications! This is what it’s all about…this is what we’ve been building to for these past few months…THIS is Sucker Punch Pro Series action at its finest folks! I hope you enjoy the event!

Enjoy the show, and till next time…

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series 355k+ style!

Wanderson Machado: Sorry I cannot comment on my recent change of manager or the disappearance of my opponents manager. Everyone knows that to win a title at Sucker Punch you gotta be ready to fight dirty and do whatever it takes.. let's just say you better keep your hands off my new shiny belt or you will come to know a new level of dirty.

Congratulations on becoming Sucker Punch Pros Series FIRST Undisputed Middleweight Champion! Well done Machado!

I'm also thrilled to say that I believe last night's event was our best rated to date, as it should be! There were some great fights, I can't wait to work on the Cheap Shots, which I'll be doing today. So if anybody has anything they want to send over for Suzy to add to the commentary, get it on over folks!

In the meantime, I'm thrilled to note this...on the spoiler page today, we had two of the fights listed in the top 10. Granted, it was a mid-week card, but still, this is the first time for our org and shows we're moving along! I'm not a big one to completely worry about hype and ratings and such, which is why I don't talk about them much....sure, you have to have that in mind in order to grow for the good of the fighters, but I'm typically just way more concerned about focusing on what each of our fighters needs and knowing who is where and such. But...this is still pretty thrilling, I have to say!
