I'm just gonna toss this out there but doesn't 9 more weeks of fights after doing 7 feel kinda crazy?

Would it not be better to perhaps make stage two something like... four groups of x5 fighters each? Top two fighters from each move to finals? That cuts it down from 9 weeks to 4, which could even allow for a 3 week training period beforehand instead of the 2 if we wanted. Thinking group structures could be like....

-A 1st place fighter

-A 2nd place fighter

-Mid tier fighter

-Mid tier fighter

-A last place fighter

Or however you wanna do it. The main focus of my argument is the amount of groups/weeks left. What do you all think?

I think this is a good suggestion for future tournaments. It still keeps the league format. We wouldn't be able to do it for this tournament though because everyone would have to agree to it and I'm sure someone would want to stick to the format they originally signed up for. I don't have a preference, but I think this is an interesting suggestion.

Second Round Rankings & Predictions

GROUP A

1. Alan Odrobny (Tomasz Pudz) - First Seed (GD1, 6-1)

First Round Prediction: 6th (2-3 wins)

Poland’s Alan Odrobny has performed far beyond original expectations and has been something of a revelation in first rounds Group D. Odrobny was not expected to make it past that round and it surprised no one after losing his opening bout to group favourite Roar Dinosuar Jr. From there however, clinch brawler Odrobny has put together a terrific run of six wins with all of his last five being by way of TKO. He clinched the top Group D spot with his final fight against close rival Daniel Bradshaw and goes into this second round of group fights as a number one seed. Whether or not he can continue this run of form remains to be seen but I see no reason why he would not at least be able to finish in the top four this time around.

Second Round Prediction: 3rd (7-8 wins)

Fights to watch: Amanda Nunes (Week 10), Johannes Boe (Week 15)

Key Fights: Regis Petrozuli (Week 13), Sven Eklund (Week 14)

2. Amanda Nunes (Marcus Peters) - First Seed (GC1, 7-0)

First Round Prediction: 6th (2-3 wins)

Perhaps the biggest star to emerge from the first round is Albania’s Amanda Nunes. Completely disregarded at the start of the tournament, Nunes has managed to bulldoze it’s way through the competition winning all of it’s seven first round fights by first round KO. Nunes started strong with big wins over seeded fighters Amadeo Camara and Abdufatto Zamanov that really made the rest of the group stand up and take notice and then to finish off the round, Nunes destroyed notorious weightgate wrestler Kyle Cruz to confirm it’s place as Group C champion. Now the undefeated fighter will face a fresh batch of opponents of which will include a fair few wrestlers. Perhaps before this might have unsettled Nunes but after such a flawless start to the campaign it’s unlikely that the heavy hitting brawler will care at all. Expect to see Nunes in the last eight knockout stages

Second Round Prediction: 1st (9 wins)

Fights to watch: Alan Odrobny (Week 10), Daniel Bradshaw (Week 16)

Key Fights: Patrick O’Phoenix (Week 15), Sven Eklund (Week 9)

3. Daniel "Bam Bam" Bradshaw (Kris Scott) - Second Seed (GD2, 5-2)

First Round Prediction: 6th (2-3 wins)

Yet another fighter that fought far beyond original expectation is the US’s Daniel “Bam Bam” Bradshaw. Originally expected to pick up no more than a couple of wins at most, Bradshaw’s “big right hand” has managed to earn him four first round KO’s out of five wins and was almost enough to take the top spot in the opening round Group D. Far above his predicted placing of 7th. Bradshaw has lost only twice so far. One a hard fought decision loss against eliminated Prince Thick and the other, a final week showdown with Alan Odrobny to decide who would go through as Group D champion. Bradshaw was a distant second in that encounter but he will have the opportunity for redemption as they will meet once again in this round at some point down the line. Bradshaw has a decent chance of making the knockout stages but unless he can pick up points against the ground based wrestlers and the best of the strikers in the group, it is expected that he fall just short

Second Round Prediction: 5th (4 wins)

Fights to watch: Alan Odrobny – Rematch (Week 12), Amanda Nunes (Week 16)

Key Fights: Sven Eklund (Week 11), Patrick O’Phoenix (Week 8)

4. Regis Petrozuli (James Listerman) - Second Seed (GA2, 6-1)

First Round Prediction: 3rd (4-5 wins)

Regis Petrozuli has had a largely successful campaign so far and with a 6-1 record remains one of a handful of fighters fully expected to make it into the final knockout stages. He came into the tournament as one of the seeded fighters and has managed to battle his way through the first round group and into another seeded spot. He is currently on a good run of form winning his last three all by first round submission. Many believe that his loss to first round rival Okino Naruhiko ignited a spark in Petrozuli that will make him a very dangerous opponent to all his faces in this next round of action. That aside, Petrozuli is still very much just a submission wrestler and will need to be at his best against the heavy hitters of the group. He is expected to do well against the wrestlers here and overall is fully expected to finish high in this round.

Second Round Prediction: 2nd (8 wins)

Fights to watch: Amadeo Camara (15), Sven Eklund (Week 12)

Key Fights: Amanda Nunes (Week 8), Alan Odorbny (Week 13)

5. Diego "Combo" Columbo (Hare Rumpler) (GA4, 3-4)

First Round Prediction: 8th (0-1 wins)

USA’s Diego Columbo has battled hard throughout the first round and has done well to earn himself a spot in this next round. His form has been very much up and down so far though he does have a win over first round seed Patrick O’Phoenix and managed to finish the round with a bang with a twenty-eight second KO over Serj Khak. For Columbo however, that is about as good as it will get for him with most believing that he will struggle massively against the competition in this round. Columbo has worked as much as possible on his wrestling but it will be no where near enough to deal with the likes of Sven Eklund and the general feeling being that he does not have the power to trouble Nunes and Odrobny. He will have chance to prove that his win over injured O’Phoenix was no fluke however as they will meet once again during this phase.

Second Round Prediction: 10th (0-1 wins)

Fights to watch: Patrick O’Phoenix- Rematch (Week 12), Johannes Boe (Week 8)

Key Fights: Amadeo Camara (Week 9), Alf Konrad (Week 10)

6. Amadeo Camara (Ibrahim Camara) (GC4, 4-3)

First Round Prediction: 1st (7 Wins)

One of a handful of under-performers in the first round is Latvia’s Amadeo Camara. A submission wrestler fighting out of Los Angeles, Camara was expected to blitz his way through Group C but ended up struggling early on and having to fight for his life during the second half of the opening round. Fight for his life he did however to finish in the 4th spot and with a respectable 4-3 record. The feeling around the tournament is that respectable will not be good enough for this fighter and his manager and that there will be a concerted effort to improve on his performance so far. Whether that will be enough we will just have to wait and see. Camara will always be dangerous for any opponent but few are convinced that the “Killer Albino” has what it takes to make it to the final stages of the tournament

Second Round Prediction: 6th (3-4 wins)

Fights to Watch: Patrick O’Phoenix (Week 13 ), Regis Petrozuli (Week 15)

Key Fights: Amanda Nunes - Rematch (Week 12 ), Daniel Bradshaw (Week 14)

7. Alf Konrad (Owen Hitman) (GC5, 3-4)

First Round Prediction 4th (3-4 wins)

After something of a slump midway through the opening round group fights, Alf Konrad almost didn’t make it to this point and had to rely on a final week win over struggling seeded fighter Abdufatto Zamanov to snatch the final qualifying spot in Group C. There’s no denying that Konrad faced stiff competition in that group and he will get another shot at two of his four losses this time around but overall, Konrad’slack of wrestling or grappling is likely to hurt him once again this time around and unless he can manage to get maximum points against everyone but the ground fighters of the group, Konrad is going to struggle massively this time around. Konrad is one of the larger fighters in the tournament and is known for having heavy hands. If he can’t stay on his feet long enough to land anything however, he will do well to pick up more than a win or two

Second Round Prediction: 9th (1-2 wins)

Fights to Watch: Amadeo Camara - Rematch (Week 11 ), Amanda Nunes – Rematch (Week 13)

Key Fights: Johannes Boe (Week 12) Diego Columbo (Week 10)

8. Patrick O'Phoenix (Rei .) (GA5, 3-4)

First Round Prediction: 1st (7 wins)

Another disappointing first round performer is Ireland’s Patrick O’Phoenix. Expected to top the Group A first round rankings, O’Phoenix proved himself to be somewhat injury prone and as such his form suffered greatly throughout the opening rounds. He did get off to a good start with a submission win over Serj Khak but then a run of three losses left him scrambling to secure a place in the next round though he was able to mount a comeback with a couple of big wins later on. O’Phoenix is another fighter that comes from a good team and can never be overlooked but at this point it is thought that perhaps O’Phoenix is not the fighter many believed him to be and as such would be somewhat of a surprise if he could turn things around from here.

Second Round Prediction: 7th (3 wins)

Fights to Watch: Regis Petrozuli – Rematch (Week ), Deigo Columbo – Rematch (Week )

Key Fights: Amadeo Camara (Week 13), Daniel Bradshaw (Week 8)

9. Johannes "The Sniper" Boe (Ringo Star) (GD3, 4-3)

First Round Prediction:5th (3-4 wins)

Johannes Boe has performed slightly better than predicted so far and it could be a fair criticism that he will once again be overlooked amongst this group of talented fighters. Having amassed a solid 4-3 record in the first round, Boe finished comfortably in Group D ending up third with his losing all coming from tough competition. He will once again face the likes of Alan Odrobny and Daniel Bradshaw and will no doubt be aiming to do better than his decision losses to them later. In fact, it could be considered imperative that he does if he has any ambitions of making it to the final knockout stages. While Boe isn’t expected to do so, if there is any one fighter that might be considered overlooked it is him. A good stand up pedigree to match the strikers of the group and maybe just enough wrestling to give him the chances he will need against the better wrestlers he will face.

Second Round Prediction: 8th (3-6 wins)

Fights to Watch: Alan Odrobny – Rematch (Week 15), Daniel Bradshaw – Rematch (Week 9)

Key Fights: Patrick O’Phoenix (Week 16), Amadeo Camara (Week 10)

10. Sven "The Executioner" Eklund (Slick Rick) (GB3, 5-2)

First Round Prediction: 7th (1-2 wins)

Sven “The Executioner” Eklund came into this competition given very little chance of success but it was quickly apparent that the Swedish wrestler had paid no attention to what was written as he smashed his way past seeded fighters Victor Slaughter and Rick Gallowgate. Racing off to a four fight win streak, Eklund’s form in the latter half of the opening round cost him a seeded position going into the second and alternating losses meant that he had to settle for a third place finish in the end. Still, a tremendous start for a fighter predicted to finish no higher than 7th initially and as such Eklund is expected to continue to impress in this next round of group fights with many believing that we will see him in the knockout stages.

Second Round Prediction: 4th (5-7 Wins)

Fights to Watch: Patrick O’Phoenix (Week 10), Daniel Bradshaw (Week 11)

Key Fights: Regis Petrozuli (Week 12), Amadeo Camara (Week 16)

Second Round Rankings & Predictions

GROUP B

1. Hugues Dupont (Emily Chanet) - First Seed (GB1, 7-0)

First Round Prediction: 2nd (5-6 wins)

It was par the course for Monaco’s Hugues Dupont who was fully expected to be one of the front runners at the start of the tournament and didn’t disappoint after sweeping Group B with an undefeated seven fight winning streak. An obvious talent for submissions, Dupont has managed to finish six of those seven wins inside the distance and with a wonderful wrestling base, is only going to become even more dangerous on the floor the more he can work on his BJJ. This second round of fights will prove interesting as Dupont has been drawn in a group with very few strikers. There will be little opportunity for easy wins and we will definitely get to see just what Dupont is made of.

Second Round Prediction: 2nd (7-8 Wins)

Fights to Watch: Kyle Cruz (Week 10), Bishop Heahmund (Week 8)

Key Fights: Okino Naruhiko (Week 14), Victor Slaughter (Week12)

2. Okino Naruhiko (Alexander Melchiott) - First Seed (GA1, 7-0)

First Round Prediction: 2nd (5-6 wins)

Another fighter that has performed largely to expectation is Japan’s Okino Naruhiko. Originally predicted a second place finish in Group A, Okino has dominated proceedings so far and with an undefeated seven fight win streak (8 including a QFC before the tournament) looks to be a strong favourite to take the tournament overall at this point. Of course things can change in a heartbeat in the world of MMATycoon and Okino will be faced with a marked step up in competition this time around but the general feelings is that Naruhiko just might be the one to bring manager Alexander Melchiot his first Winterbottom tournament championship of his career.

Second Round Prediction: 1st (8-9 Wins)

Fights to Watch: Kyle Cruz (Week 8), Michael Dobson – Rematch (Week 16)

Key Fights: Hugues Dupont (Week 14), Victor Slaughter (Week 10)

3. Kyle Cruz (Dylan Peterson) - Second Seed (GC2, 5-2)

First Round Prediction: 2nd (3-6 wins)

Kyle Cruz has done fantastically to come back from an initial scandal involving hidden weights in his jock strap at the start of this tournament, a scandal that resulted in his opening fight being declared forfeit. From there however, Cruz has managed to come back with five wins a row and ended up second in Group C, losing only to brawling Phenom Amanda Nunes in his final bout of the first round. A strong ground and pound wrestler, Cruz may well have to adapt his approach in this next round as many of his opponents will be just as savvy on the mat as he. With that aside, Cruz is considered an excellent prospect at this point as is expected to secure himself a place in the knockout stage finals.

Second Round Prediction: 3rd

Fights to Watch: Okino Naruhiko (Week 8) Hugues Dupont (Week 9)

Key Fights: Victor Slaughter (Week 15), Bishop Heahmund (Week 10)

4. Victor "Bring Ya Daughter To The" Slaughter (Scotty JoeC) - Second Seed (GB2, 5-2)

First Round Prediction: 1st (6-7 wins)

A poor start to the opening round lead many to believe that Victor Slaughter would become just another seeded fighter that couldn’t live up to the hype but after digging deep and mounting a five fight win streak, Slaughter was able to climb the Group B standings and finish in the seeded spot of second place. An amazing fight back though it must be noted that both of Slaughter’s opening losses were to ground fighters, the rest came largely at the expense of strikers with little wrestling. A worrying thought for Slaughter perhaps though it is largely believed that he will have used the two week rest period to adjust and adapt to his new opponents in this upcoming round. Slaughter is expected to feature in the finals though he is thought to be one of the weaker of the seeded fighters in this round and will need to be at his absolute best if he is to make it further.

Second Round Prediction: 4th (5-6 Wins)

Fights to Watch: Bishop Heahmund (Week 13), Thom Tharrier – Rematch (Week 8)

Key Fights: Hugues Dupont – Rematch (Week 12), Kyle Cruz (Week 15)

5. Bishop "The Saint" Heahmund (Master Tessin) (GC3, 4-3)

First Round Prediction: 7th (2-3 wins)

BJJ fighters have never feared well in tournaments such as these and Brown Belt Bishop Heahmund was never believed to have been the one to buck the trend but so far things have been going relatively well for the English grappler and with his ever improving wrestling skills, it is thought that perhaps he could have an outside shot at reaching the final stages. As is common however, inconsistency has been prominent throughout his campaign so far and Heahmund has posted just as many impressive wins as he has silly losses. If he is to have any chance at moving on, he will need to be much more consistent with his results.

Second Round Prediction: 6th (3-4 Wins)

Fights to Watch: Heitor Machado (Week 12), Roar Dinosuar Jr (Week 16)

Key Fights: Kyle Cruz – Rematch (Week 11), Michael Dobson (Week 10)

6. Thom "Lung Lung" Tharrier (Thaddeus Banks) (GB5, 3-4)

First Round Prediction: 5th (2-3 wins)

Doing what was necessary in the fights that he was expected to have a chance in has paid of for Thom Tharrier who now finds himself very much in a win/win situation. Tharrier looked strong in his wins against strikers but struggled massively in his losses against the grapplers that he faced and baring that in mind, his chances of moving on from this point look to be extremely slim indeed. However, with little pressure on Tharrier from here, he may feel that he is free to let his hands go and see just how far they can take them as he faces a large field of wrestlers and submission experts.

Second Round Prediction: 10th (0-1 wins)

Fights to Watch: Jon Bones – Rematch (Week 10), Michael Dobson (Week 11)

Key Fights: Bishop Heahmund (Week 9), Heitor Machado (Week 15)

7. Jon Bones (Adam Lim) (GB4, 4-3)

First Round Prediction: 8th (0-1 wins

Another fighter that has done well to defy initial expectations is Singapore’s Jon Bones. Original predicted to finish last in his group B draw, Bones has managed to cobble together a respectable 4-3 record and a place in the second round. He has struggled against wrestlers so far however which doesn’t bode well for him this time around. With few upcoming opportunities against strikers, Bones will need to find away to keep things standing if he is to remain above water over the next several weeks.

Prediction: 9th (0-1 Wins)

Fights to Watch: Thom Tharrier – Rematch (Week1), Michael Dobson (Week 15)

Key Fights: Bishop Heahmund (Week 14), Heitor Machado (Week 8)

8. Heitor Machado (John Pezao) (GD5, 4-3)

First Round Prediction: 4th (3-4 wins)

BJJ Brown belt Heitor Machado was one of the only originally seeded fighters not predicted to finish in the top two spots after the end of the first round. Things got off to a good start with the Brazilian managing two first round submission wins in a row, one of which was over group favourite Roar Dinosuar Jr. From that point inconsistency reared it’s ugly head and Machado began to drop points in fights he was favoured to win. Still, he has found his way into the second round and despite not having the best of records here, he might just have gotten lucky to find himself in a group filled will wrestlers and grapplers that are unlikely to be looking to take his head off of his shoulders. If he can manage to snatch some points from the tough bouts then maybe Machado could feature in the knockout stages but generally, the feeling is that this is as far as the submission specialist can go.

Second Round Prediction: 8th (2-3 wins)

Fights to Watch: Bishop Heahmund (Week 12) Roar Dinosuar Jr – Rematch (Week 10)

Key Fights: Michael Dobson (Week 13), Jon Bones (Week 8)

9. Michael Dobson (Larry Hawk) (GA3, 5-2)

First Round Prediction: 4th (3-4 wins)

One of the better fighters in this second round that failed to clinch a seeded spot is clinch wrestler, Michael Dobson. Always expected to make it this far, Dobson has overcome a poor opening start to the tournament in which he lost back to back fights to seeds Okino Naruhiko and Regis Petrozuli, and comes into this second round on a five fight win streak with all victories coming by way of first round KO. The second round draw has perhaps been a little unkind to Dobson who now finds himself surrounded by ground wrestlers and submission experts but there is a strong feeling that if anyone can find a way to succeed here it is him. The fact that he has added bulk to his already gargantuan framed in order to help him keep on his feet proves just how serious the fighter from London, England is taking things.

Second Round Prediction: 5th (5-6 Wins)

Fights to Watch: Kyle Cruz (Week 12), Jon Bones (Week 15)

Key Fights: Victor Slaughter (Week 14), Bishop Heahmund (Week 10)

10. Roar Dinosaur Jr (Pika Choo) (GD4, 4-3)

First Round Prediction: predicted 1st, 5-6 wins

So far for Norwegian grappler Roar Dinosuar Jr things have been somewhat disappointing with a poor showing in the first half of the first round leading him into a desperately scramble just to make it into this second round. Dinosuar Jr has done well to turn things around in must be acknowledged but by now the damage is done and the first round seed that was predicted to dominate Group D has been somewhat exposed with many believing that he has little chance against the top fighters that have also made it this far.

Second Round Prediction: 7th (2-4 wins)

Fights to Watch: Heitor Machado – Rematch (Week 10), Bishop Heahmund (Week 16)

Key Fights: Michael Dobson (Week 8), Victor Slaughter (Week 11)

Amadeo "Killer Albino" Camara (344135): A lot of people ask us what makes our camp special. Why do we get so much of the spotlight.

Well let me tell yall. It's not because we got the #1 P4P , it's not because we beat undefeated prospects, it's not because we win creation tournaments or humiliate the elite.

It is because when others are so close to touching that #1 manager spot

Montreal 2.0 RD1

(Week 8)

(The Underground - Montreal) - 16th March

Group A

Johannes Boe (4-3) vs. Diego Columbo (3-4)

This one has slobber knocker written all over it. Two large heavyweight strikers going at it and both will no doubt be feeling that this is a fight that they can win. Boe has been the more consistent of the two and coupled with his superior wrestling will probably be going into this as the bookies favourite though Columbo has been just as dangerous in his victories.

Prediction: Boe by KO

Patrick O'Phoenix (3-4) vs. Daniel Bradshaw (5-2)

A tough fight for striker Daniel Bradshaw to face submission specialist Patrick O’Phoenix so early in the round but in all honestly, O’Phoenix hasn’t quite been the fighter we expected him to be and at this point Bradshaw looks to be far superior in almost all area’s of the fight. Of course O’Phoenix will be at his most dangerous if he can get the fight to the ground but even there Bradshaw looks to have more than enough to force the stand up

Prediction: Bradshaw by KO

Alan Odrobny (6-1) vs. Amadeo Camara (4-3)

This one is going to be very interesting. On one hand Alan Odrobny has been performing well above expectations and is currently on a six fight win streak and on the other early favourite Amadeo Camara has not quite lived up to the hype as of yet. It would be easy to predict a quick KO for the Polish brawler but on closer inspection we can see that the majority of Odrobny’s wins have come from inside the clinch, an area that Camara will likely be looking to utalise in order to get the fight to the floor. If Odrobny does find himself fighting off of his back it’s expected to end quite badly for him and this is definitely one of a handful of fights that he will want to be winning if he is to make it into the next round.

Odorbny by KO

Amanda Nunes (7-0) vs. Regis Petrozulli (6-1_

What a fight to kick the second round off with. Amanda Nunes has been sensational so far this season and comes into this bout as an undefeated KO machine. Petrozuli is a tough submission specialist in his own right and isn’t likely to want anything to do with Nunes on the feet. The big question is whether Petrozuli will be able to get this fight to the floor or not. If he can, he stands a good chance of picking up a huge win against group favourite Nunes but if not, Nunes is likely to steamroller over him just as with previous opponents.

Nunes by KO

Sven Eklund (5-2) vs. Alf Konrad (3-4)

An extremely tough opening match up for Alf Konrad in taking on ground and pound wrestler Sven Eklund. Konrad has almost no grappling experience and as such very little chance of a good start in this round other than taking out Eklund quickly. This is Eklund’s fight to lose. He needs only one opportunity on the ground to get the job done and considering Eklund has proven to be a lot better than initially thought at the start of the tournament, the bookies would consider him the strong favourite.

Eklund by TKO

Group B

Thom Tharrier (3-4) vs. Victor Slaughter (5-2)

A rematch from their earlier encounter in which Slaughter made short work of striker Tharrier in just forty seconds. Little is expected to have changed during that time and, aside from an early flash KO, Tharrier isn’t considered to have much of a chance in this one. Slaughter is in great form after a tough opening to the tournament and is expected to keep the good times rolling in week eight

Prediction: Slaughter by TKO

Hugues Dupont (7-0) vs. Bishop Heahmund (4-3)

A potential bogey fight for submission wrestler Hugues Dupont as he takes on BJJ Brown Belt Bishop Heahmund. Dupont doesn’t give us any reason to doubt he will be dominant in this match up considering that he has yet to lose after seven fights in a row but Heahmund has proven tricky when he needs to be and Dupont will be well aware of the danger of engaging on the ground. There is a strong possibility that we will see these fighters standing toe to toe and trying to mix things up a little.

Prediction: Dupont by Submission

Heitor Machado (4-3) vs. Jon Bones (4-3)

This is a tough one to predict. Neither fighter has been the most consistent so far in the tournament but if we was to go soley by that it would probably have to be Bones that would be considered that favourite going into this one. Machado is a tricky customer however and he has obviously been putting in some time on the wrestling mat in order to help him get the fight to the floor. Bones has looked good in the clinch but he could probably afford to stay at range in this one. It will be down to Machado to close the distance if he wants this fight on the ground and in doing so he will be vulnerable. Both fighters will believe that can get the win here and really it will come down to game planning on the night

Prediction: Machado by Submission

Roar Dinosuar Jr (4-3) vs. Michael Dobson (5-2)

Roar Dinosuar Jr has had to turn things around after a poor start to the tournament but he looks to be in much better form now. Michael Dobson on the other hand has looked solid for some time now. Both are wonderful wrestlers and both will have very different ideas on how they want to apply those skills. On the feet this is an easy fight for Dobson. On the ground, it would probably lean towards Dinosuar Jr.

Prediction: Dobson by KO

Kyle Cruz (6-1) vs. Okino Naruhiko (7-0)

This is a match up that will likely have big implications at the end of this second round group stage. Both fighters are going to be aiming to make it into the next round and this would be an important victory for both. Naruhiko will be favourite going into this one as he has looked like an absolute monster so far in this tournament but Cruz isn’t too far behind. One thing is for certain and that is that neither fighter will want to be fighting off of his back so getting the early take down is going to be all the more important.

Prediction: Naruhiko by KO

I get interested in the betting aspect of this because it allows me to make predictions and is fun to do. I'm not really a smack talker, especially with games. I think the predictions for Group A are pretty solid and I'd agree with them. I think Group B is where things get messy and there are several fighters who are overestimated in that group. I think it would be a struggle for Okino, Dupont, Cruz or Dobson to do well in this group due to the amount of grapplers they have to contend with. Dupont doesn't look to be strong against BJJ guys. For Okino and Cruz, it will likely come down to whether they can secure top position in their fights. Dobson is a clinch fighter who will have to be worried about people pulling guard. He also performed poorly against Regis and Okino.

Victor Slaughter is probably the best bet for Group B's winner, but Group B is a mess and it is very much up in the air. With Group A I see Daniel Bradshaw doing better than predicted. I wouldn't be surprised if Alan Odrobny secures second place, but we'll quickly find out based on how he does against Camara. I unfortunately don't have much to contribute to forum threads, but I do find the tournament very compelling.

Good, good. Now I can take a little bit more of your money, Alfred. Or maybe you'll take mine...

Hopefully I'll take some of yours lol.

I put in 500k at the start of this tournament and I'm down 250k or there about. A lot of that has been from the real life events though so I'll just stick with the tournament from here on

PSE 265lbs+ Grand Prix

Montreal 2.0 RD2 (Week 9)

Group A

Daniel Bradshaw vs. Johannes Boe

With both fighters getting off to winning starts this fight just became all the more important for them both. Unfortunately for Boe, he suffered a pretty significant injury that he is unlikely to shake off come the time of fighting which will likely gift Bradshaw his second win in a row. A real shame for the Norwegian kickboxer.

Prediction: Bradshaw by Round 1 KO

Amadeo Camara vs. Diego Columbo

In contrast, two fighters that both suffered losses in their opening fights will be seeking to pick up their first win of the second round and this time neither fighter will be anywhere near 100% on the night. Columbo currently ahead in the table by virtue of time managed to get into the second round of his bout with Johannes Boe where as Camara barely had a chance to get going before suffering a referee cut stoppage against Alan Odrobny. Grappler versus striker, this one will really come down to who can adapt to their injuries and figure out a way to win

Prediction: Columbo by Round 1 KO

Regis Petrozuli vs. Patrick O'Phoenix

Another two fighters that will be coming in off the back of losses is Regis Petrozulli and Patrick O’Phoenix. O’Phoenix who has developed a bit of a reputation of being injury prone will once again be fighting at less than top shape where as Petrozuli will just about be ready to go. As both are predominately ground fighters O’Phoenix may have a slightly better chance of a decent performance and at worst should hopefully not aggravate his injury any further.

Prediction: Petrozuli by Round 1 Submission

Alf Konrad vs. Alan Odrobny

Polish brawler Alan Odrobny got off to a great start and managed to pick up a good scalp against former favourite Amadeo Camara. His quick stoppage win thrust him to the top of the group standings and now he will be fighting to maintain that top spot for as long as he can. He will be facing Alf Konrad who suffered a loss to ground and pound wrestler Sven Eklund in his last bout so will be aiming to do a lot better this time around. He won’t have to worry about being taken to the ground as both fighters much prefer to let their fists do the talking on the feet but he will have to worry about the form of Odrobny who has now racked up seven wins in a row.

Prediction: Odrobny by Dec

Sven Eklund vs. Amanda Nunes

What can be said about Amanda Nunes that hasn’t already been said? Completely overlooked at the start of this tournament, Nunes has bashed it’s way to an undefeated 8-0 record and is looking incredibly hard to beat currently. At this time Nunes is one of only two fighters that has yet to lose in the tournament but it’s opponent Sven Eklund will no doubt be licking his lips at the prospect of taking that zero from Nunes. Both fighters will be dealing with very slight injuries on the day which does even things up a little but how things will go down really will be interesting to see. Both fighters are currently in qualifying positions and neither will want to give up any ground to the rest of the pack.

Prediction: Nunes by Dec

Group B

Bishop Heahmund vs. Thom Tharrier

Bishop Heahmund performed well in his opening bout against undefeated grappler Hugues Dupont and was disappointing not to have found a way past the Monacan’s submission defence. Suffering a decision loss, Heahmund will now face another dangerous challenge this time in the way of wild striker Thom Tharrier. Tharrier was taken out in less than thirty seconds in his opening bout and will quite likely be looking to cause some damage this time round to offset the embarrassment of such quick loss.

Heahmund will be the favourite but he must know the danger of standing in front of Tharrier for even a second longer than he needs to. Tharrier has a great chance of an upset if he can clip him but to do so, he will need to remain standing. Both fighters will be fully fit.

Prediction: Heahmund by Round 1 Submission

Jon Bones vs. Victor Slaughter

Victor Slaughter is fast becoming something of a contender once again as he picked up his sixth win in a row last time out. He will now face sprawl and brawler Jon Bones who has remained on the fridges so far with some up and down performances and who will be coming in off the back of a loss in his second round opening bout. Both fighters will be in top condition. Bones has a small chance here if he can frustrate wrestler Slaughter’s take down attempts but aside from that most betting men would be putting there money squarely on Slaughter to pick up another win and keep his spot at the time of Group B

Prediction: Slaughter by Round 1 KO

Michael Dobson vs. Hugues Dupont

This will definitely be a fight to keep an eye on as undefeated grappler Hugues Dupont takes on in form wrestling clinch fighter Michael Dobson. Dupont had a tough fight last time out but managed to shut down BJJ Brown Belt Bishop Heahmund and win a unanimous decision. Dobson on the other hand battered submission wrestler Roar Dinosuar Jr on the feet after after displaying some solid ground defence in the face of relentless submission attempts. Unfortunately, Dobson may not get over a niggling injury before this fight which would be a great shame to rob the fans of an even fight between the two. Both currently in an early qualifying position, Dupont looks to have an increased chance of leapfrogging Dobson and keeping his undefeated record intact for another week.

Prediction: Dupont Round 2 Submission

Okino Naruhiko vs. Heitor Machado

Okino Naruhiko will be coming into this one after suffering his first loss this tournament after a hard fought decision against Kyle Cruz didn’t go his way. Now he will face BJJ Brown Belt Heitor Machado who put on some up and down performances so far but managed to get off to a lightening start this round after defeating brawler Jon Bones in just thirty-five seconds. Lady luck seems to be favouring the Brazilian on this occasion also as Naruhiko will be nursing a slight injury on the day of the fight giving a massive advantage to Machado in an otherwise extremely tough match up. Can Naruhiko find a way around his injury or will he be easy pickings for the jiu-jitsu specialist?

Prediction: Machado by Round 2 Submission

Kyle Cruz vs. Roar Dinosuar Jr

Kyle Cruz made quite a statement after coming back from the two week break and picking up a unanimous decision against undefeated favourite Okino Naruhiko. A big win for Cruz though currently sitting just outside of the top four qualifying spots separated only by overall record. He will now face submission wrestler Roar Dinosuar Jr who hasn’t quite lived up to expectations and who once again got off to a disappointing start this round after suffering a second round KO loss to Michael Dobson. Cruz might need to be careful on the ground against Dinosuar though it is true that the Norwegian grappler will be tyring to protect a rather sizeable cut suffered in his bout against Dobson. This could spell absolute disaster against a ground and pound monster like Cruz and Dinosuar Jr will need to step things up a gear or two if he is to get out of this one unscathed.

Prediction: Cruz by Round 2 KO

Damn these injuries!

I gotta say Kris Scott maybe right about the smaller groups and longer rest in between. I really loved the idea of a big league table and weekly fights but it's just not possible to do it without these injuries getting in the way. Real shame for me.

Anyway, some big fights going into week 9.

In Group A we have Sven Eklund versus Amanda Nunes. I didn't expect either fighter to be doing this well but here we are none the less. Nunes is one of only two fighters left undefeated at this point and it's extremely interesting to see who will last the longest. It feels silly betting against Nunes at this point but I always think it's harder for a striker against a grappler in these types of events. Maybe I'm wrong though as I think it's about 50/50 for overall winners in all the creation tournaments I've put on.

Daniel Bradshaw looks like he will likely be moving into a qualifying spot too as he takes on an injured Johannes Boe who currently sits in Group A's third spot. A real shame after a good start for Boe. Still plenty of time to go though.

Two fighters that seem to be letting their managers down are Patrick O'Phoenix and Amadeo Camara. Very interested to see if either of these guys can make it to the next round. On currently trajectory you'd have to say no.

In Group B, I think the biggest fight is Michael Dobson taking on Hugues Dupont. Dupont is the other fighter currently still undefeated and I have him as the slight favourite but clinch striker Dobson is in great form too and has the wrestling to match Dupont's. If Dupont get's stuck on his feet this could easily go Dobson's way.

Elsewhere, Okino Naruhiko fights injured against fully fit Heitor Machado. If both were fresh I'd pick Naruhiko as a big favourite. This is a bit of a let off for Machado and a massive turn around for a fighter that looked to be a strong contender to take the tournament overall. Interesting to see if Naruhiko can right the ship from here.

Odds are up if you want to take some of my money

Saturday 30th March 2019

Group A

Johannes Boe (5-4) vs. Amadeo Camara (5-4)

After a gruelling three round decision loss against Daniel Bradshaw, Johannes Boe might be consoled by the fact that he came away from the encounter completely injury and cut free. Losing no points from the result, Boe maintains his place in the qualifying spots for another week but faces a tough test in his next fight against Amadeo Camara. Camara, who just picked up a big result against Diego Columbo despite both fighters going into the bout with injuries, should be good to go come fight time and will no doubt feel excited by the prospect of leapfrogging Boe should he be victorious.

Camara comes from a good camp and will always be a danger but many still doubt that he is the man to get the job done for his team. Boe might just feel the same way and if he can land a couple of good shots, stands a very good chance of keeping his spot in the next round.

Prediction: Camara by TKO

Daniel Bradshaw (7-2) vs. Regis Petrozuli (7-2)

Daniel Bradshaw continues to impress and with a dominant decision win over Johannes Boe now moves up into third and into a qualifying position. Completely smothering Boe in the clinch, Bradshaw allowed little room for his opponent to manoeuvre though with the strain of the fight did pick up an aggravating injury that should thankfully be OK for his next fight. Speaking of which, he faces a tough one as submission specialist Regis Petrozuli managed to bounce back from his opening round loss, this time with a first round victory over struggling Patrick O’Phoenix. O’Phoenix, who really shouldn’t have even been in the cage due to injury, wasn’t able to put up much of a fight though thankfully for him, Petrozulli wasn’t feeling particularly cruel and was looking only to get in, get the submission and get out, which is precisely what he did.

This is a big fight with both fighters capable of pushing for a place in the next round. Tactically it is interesting as Bradshaw may want to keep out of reach from Petrozuli and stay on the outside, something that isn’t really his expertise. Petrozuli will want this on the ground at all costs but somehow must not make his approach too predictable lest Bradshaw pick up apart when he tries. Both fighters in decent form and really this could go either way.

Prediction: Bradshaw by Dec

Diego Columbo (3-6) vs. Alf Konrad (3-6)

Diego Columbo found fighting both a tough opponent and an injury last time out just a little too much and unfortunately not only aggravated his existing injury but also now will go into his next battle with a serious cut too. He came to close to getting out of the first round against Amadeo Camara but in truth, the ringside doctor was looking extremely concerned about the cut and may just have stopped the fight anyway. Columbo faces Alf Konrad who has also managed to lose his first two fights of this new round and like Columbo, currently languishes at the bottom of Group A with minus points. For that reason this will be a very important fight for both fighters though Konrad will have an almost insurmountable advantage given that he will be fresh for the fight. It would be a miracle of Columbo could pick up a win here though if he could somehow get it to the floor he might just stand a chance, otherwise it looks very likely to be a quick win for striker Alf Konrad.

Prediction: Konrad by KO

Patrick O'Phoenix (3-6) vs. Sven Eklund (6-3)

Injury prone Patrick O’Phoenix has now suffered two losses in a row and currently stands joint last with minus two points. Though it is still early, things definitely do not look good for the Irish grappler although he will definitely be boosted by the fact that he should be injury free just in time for his next bout. He will face Sven Eklund who will be coming into the bout off the back of a first round KO loss to undefeated Amanda Nunes. Eklund might be disappointing in the performance as he was able to get the fight to the floor but unable to do anything once there. At this point, opportunities like that just cannot be squandered and Eklund will definitely feel as though he suffered the price.

That both fighters will be healthy makes this bout all the more intriguing. O’Phoenix has been disappointing thus far and many believe his injury proneness has let his manager down where as Eklund, has done far better than originally expected and has been predicted a spot in the knockout stages. A big opportunity for a healthy O’Phoenix to show what he is capable off and likewise for Eklund to prove that he can defeat the big camps of the MMATycoon world.

Prediction: Eklund by Dec

Alan Odrobny (8-1) vs. Amanda Nunes (9-0)

One of the biggest fights in this Group A table arrives in week three as undefeated KO machine Amanda Nunes takes on rampaging Polish brawler Alan Odrobny. Both fighters were victorious at the weekend with Nunes dispatching Sven Eklund in the first round and Odrobny battering Alf Konrad for almost five minutes straight. Both fighters are currently locked head to head at the top of the table separated only by time and thankfully neither injuries not cuts will rob the fans of the fair fight between these two impressive warriors.

It’s no secret by now the power that Nunes possesses and Odrobny will not likely want to go toe to toe on the outside. It will be very interesting to see if Nunes can stay out of the clinch, an area in which Odrobny has not yet been rivalled and was evident during his impressive win over Daniel Bradshaw. Really, this will come down to who can impose their usual game plan best but generally the feeling around the tournament is that, despite being in terrific form, Odrobny is not the man to hand Nunes his first loss.

Prediction: Nunes by KO

Group B

Thom Tharrier (3-6) vs. Jon Bones (4-5)

A battle at the bottom of the Group B table as Thom Tharrier takes on Jon Bones. Both fighters have managed to lose their first two fights and both in relatively quick fashion though Tharrier has definitely looked the more dangerous of the two after this last performance. Landing some seriously heavy shots against BJJ specialist Bishop Heahmund, he came very close to ending the fight after rocking the grappler but unfortunately just couldn’t finish the job and Heahmund was able to regroup and get the submission finish not long afterwards. Jon Bones hasn’t really had much of a chance to do anything as both of his losses have come against far superior wrestlers who have had little trouble in getting Bones off of his feet.

That isn’t going to be an issue in this one as these two strikers are going to be free to go at it and thankfully both will completely injury and cut free. It should be a very entertaining bout and with both fighters faces so many tough grapplers in this group, is thought to be one of the more winnable fights for either of them.

Prediction: Tharrier by KO

Bishop Heahmund (5-4) vs. Michael Dobson (6-3)

Bishop Heahmund manages to overturn his opening week loss with a win this week but it certainly came with some scares as his opponent Thom Tharrier opened a cut on Heahmund’s face with the very first punch thrown and then a little later, managed to escape the ground and land a massive uppercut that dropped him before he could regain his composure and get the fight back to the safety of the mat. It would have served as a stark reminder of the glaring hole in Heahmund’s game but a win is a win and Heahmund is still very much in the running for a place in the final play-off stages.

He faces a very tough fight against clinch wrestler Michael Dobson who will be coming into the fight off the back of a submission loss to undefeated Hugues Dupont in his last bout. Dobson has been in great form leading up to that and was riding a six fight win streak before running into submission specialist Dupont.

A win for either of these men against each other would be extremely important in their campaign for a spot in the next round as currently both sit just outside of the top four places and it looks as though it will be very difficult to budge a few of those currently above them. Keeping up with that pack is going to be a challenge in itself and neither fighter will want to risk falling too far behind them so early in the round.

Prediction: Dobson by KO

Victor Slaughter (7-2) vs. Okino Naruhiko (7-2)

Victor Slaughter’s speedy seventh win in a row this week was enough once again to maintain his spot at the top of the Group B table and currently he is looking like a very solid bet to feature in the final knockout stages. Currently tied on points with Heitor Machado, it has been Slaughter’s time in the cage that has given him the lead with both of his second round fights so far clocking in at under a minute. All that could be about to change however as he begins to face much tougher opposition after a very kind fixture draw handed him arguably two of the easier match ups for his particular skills. He will next face Okino Naruhiko who, after a whirlwind undefeated first round, has found himself doing a complete 180 and has lost his first two bouts. His first, a legit loss to a very tough Kyle Cruz but his second to injury as well as the submission skills of Heitor Machado. Naruhiko might well feel a little hard done by but now, he will be injury free and there will be no excuses for anyone about the result of this next showdown.

Both fighters are extremely similar with only a marginal advantage in Slaughters boxing compared to Okino and of course, Slaughters impressive form of which cannot be ignored. For Naruhiko, who is already minus one point, the impact of this fight on his tournament dream just cannot be misstated. It might even be a must win with the top of the group performing so well of late.

Prediction: Slaughter by TKO

Hugues Dupont (9-0) vs. Kyle Cruz (7-2)

Another huge match up in Group B as undefeated Hugues Dupont takes on dangerous ground and pound wrestler Kyle Cruz.

Hugues Dupont will be defending a 9-0 record going into this one and the winner is guaranteed to overtake the loser. Both fighters will be feeling confident after wins over tricky opponents. Dupont managed to overcome the good form and clinch wrestling of Michael Dobson to pick up his first finish win of the round and Kyle Cruz was able to reverse submission wrestler Roar Dinosuar Jr and take advantage of an existing cut to force a doctors stoppage inside the first round with some viscous ground and pound. For Cruz, this fight could look a little similar to the last which might give him some confidence against one of only two undefeated fighters left in the tournament.

Again, we are thankful that injuries and cuts will not affect the result of this fight and that whatever happens will be due only to the skills and abilities of both teams taking part. An extremely difficult fight to predict as Dupont’s form cannot be ignored but on the other hand, Cruz matches up quite well here and just might be able to get the TKO finish if he can keep top position.

Prediction: Cruz by TKO

Heitor Machado (6-3) vs. Roar Dinosuar Jr (4-5)

BJJ Brown Belt Heitor Machado has had some good results so far as well as a little luck in that his most recent opponent Okino Naruhiko was struggling with an injury which would have definitely played a part in Machado’s victory over him. Even with the injury, Naruhiko was no push over and it took Machado until mid way through the second round to finally find a way through Naruhiko’s defences. Points are points however and now the Brazilian sits comfortably in second place in Group B and again faces a tricky opponent that will be slightly handicapped coming into the fight. Roar Dinosuar Jr put up a good fight against an extrmely tough Kyle Cruz despite coming into the bout with a massive unhealed cut. He managed to take the wrestler down and spend a decent amount of time in top position which protected him somewhat but near the end of round one, Cruz was able to reverse and it took only a couple of solid shots to bust open Dinosuar Jr and force the doctor to stop the fight. Now, with the cut even worse then before, Dinosuar Jr will need to find a way to get around it as he faces second place Machado.

Prediction: Machado by Submission
