IXF 9

PRELIMS

Welterweight bout

William "Basher" Scout (1-2-0) vs Anton "The Purple Aki Killer" Dolvoz (0-2-0)

Super Heavyweight bout

Babalu "Bloodgasm" Sepultura (0-1-0) vs Candy Routure (0-1-0)

Lightweight bout

Hans Baier (2-0-0) vs Tyson Dyson (3-1-0)

Lightweight bout

Gabriel Azevedo Souza (1-0-0) vs Antoni "Snake" Gniewko( 1-1-0)

Lightweight bout

Alisson Becker (1-0-0) vs Ryo "Judo" Tanaka (1-0-0)

MAIN CARD

Welterweight bout

Jeff Spicoli (2-2-0) vs Medusa Grip (2-1-0)

Spicoli will try to make a comeback after losing his first 2 matches in IXF. He badly needs a win as he faces Grip who also will try to make a comeback with his last defeat. Spicoli will need to work on keeping the fight standing while grip will look to take Spicoli down.

Key Areas:

Ground vs Standup

Clinch vs Takedowns

Prediction:

Spicoli by 1st round TKO

Lightweight bout

" Le Tueur d'île" Jeff Bennington (3-0-0) vs Dante DeNunez (1-1-0)

Bennington is on a hot streak right now showing that he indeed is a contender for the title. He has submitted 3 opponents in the first round. DeNunez on the other hand is a MT specialist, both of his matches ending by decision. Denunez needs to avoid Bennington's takedowns because surely Bennington will pull of another sub win if he gets it. I'm going with Bennington on this one.

Key Areas:

Ground vs Standup

Takedown vs Clinch

Submission grappling

Prediction:

Bennington via 1st round submission

Lightweight bout

Amari "The Dragon" Dion (3-1-0) vs Walton "The Ant" Neo (2-1-0)

This is Amari Dion's first fight a week after a devastating 1st round TKO loss against the new champ Tommy Doyle. He will look to work his way back up to the contender spot as he faces Neo who also lost to his opponent last week, Bennington. This is a must win for both fighters as this will give them a step closer to the title. Again, this is a classic standup fighter going against a ground fighter. Dion will probably take this one.

Key Areas:

Ground vs Standup

Submission grappling vs Clinchwork

Neo's KO Power

Prediction:

Dion by 1st round Submission

Light Heavyweight bout

Axel Foley (3-2-0) vs Bobby "IRA" Sands Jr (2-1-0)

Foley lost to his opponent Onodera last week in IXF 7. Onodera's ground game was just too much for him. He will face another superior ground fighter this time as he faces Sands Jr. who will come back from a 1st round TKO loss in his title match against Venator. Both fighters have their own arsenals and are capable of winning by finishes or by decision. Let's see how they go at it.

Key Areas:

Standup vs Ground

Clinch vs Takedown

KO Power vs Solid Chin

Prediction:

Foley by 2nd round TKO

MAIN EVENT

Light Heavyweight bout

"Bad Bad" LeRoy Brown(2-0-0) vs Xandar Capri (5-0-0)

http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/24/24b25.jpg VS http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/17/17w7.jpg

For the main event, we feature 2 great fighters, both undefeated, go head to head in the octagon. Brown has a good start in his career with 2 wins up his sleeve, both via first round TKO. Capri on the other hand is unstoppable with 5 wins, winning his first IXF match last week in IXF 6. What's amazing is his KO power, finishing all of his opponents. Despite that, Leroy still has his granite chin and he's never been KO'd. Both fighters are well equipped with standup skills. Brown with boxing, Capri with MT. Checking on their match history, Brown likes to keep distance and deal damage while Capri goes aggressive in his clinch game. Regardless, this will surely end in a first round TKO. Place your bets now! I'll be going for Capri this time.

Key Areas:

Chin vs KO Power

Boxing vs MT

Outside vs Clinch

Prediction:

Capri via 1st round TKO

NY Fight Nights: Legends Creation Tournament

Semi-finals

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1520847838semi-finals2.jpg

Four sharks, one target...

This tournament might easily be the best tournament of all time.

About 5 months ago, we started off with 20 great fighters, all of which managed by MMA Tycoon legends.

After 9 rounds, we are now down to the final 4 contenders. These are the four 19 year olds aspiring to be the next Legends Tournament Champion!

Capture.png

These guys will definitely be one of the best P4P fighters in the game after this tournament. Looking only at their records, you wouldn't really know who will win. Now, let's dissect into each fight in the semis.

Semifinal Match 1

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/15087008233571.jpg VS http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/15087543905067.jpg

Billy Arseworth David Brent

For the first fight, we have Arseworth going against Brent. They first faced each other in round 7 where Arseworth won by decision after being aggressive for the whole 3 rounds. This time, it won't be the same case as they both have trained and are now different fighters.

Arseworth is a very versatile fighter, but much monstrous on the ground. In his past matches, he's managed to takedown almost anyone, mixing it with his great KO power and ground game, he can be a very difficult opponent to match with.

On the other hand, David Brent has never been submitted before including his loss against Arseworth where he had 28 sub attempts. Also, with his 100% KO rate, Arseworth will have a tough time against him given that he's had a history of a 44 second KO loss against Thor Grasman.

Arseworth might go for the ground in this once again given that Brent's ground game is inferior to him. He's boosted his boxing but Brent's superior MT is dangerous for Arseworth. If Brent can avoid takedowns, he has a great chance at grabbing a W this time. Also, another key here is that Brent is currently suffering from cuts he got after his previous fight, Arseworth can capitalize on this advantage come fight time.

Key Areas:

KO Power

Brent's reach advantage

Arseworth's ground game

TD Offense vs Defense

Brent's cuts

Personal Prediction:

Brent via 1st round TKO

Semifinal Match 2

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14312075978963.gif VS http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/15086018624219.jpg

Marky Mark Blake Phoenix

For the second semifinals match, Marky Mark goes against Blake Phoenix. They last met in the first round, very different fighters from who they are right now. Blake managed to outmatch Mark in the clinch and won by a quick 1st round TKO. Ever since that loss, Mark has never lost since then. Now we come to a point where they meet again. Such an epic story line right there ladies and gentlemen.

With great training, both fighters became absolutely great standup fighters. Skills wise, Mark has superior boxing while Blake has superior MT. Mark's reach advantage will be key if he wants to strike in distance given that Phoenix is an absolute beast in the clinch. He can land those shots and break through Phoenix's good chin just like what Pablo Spezziale did in round 7.

This will surely be a brawl as they are known to be aggressive fighters. I'll be expecting a finish from either of them.

Key areas:

KO Power and Chin

Standup vs Standup

Boxing vs MT

Outside Striking and Clinch game

Mark's reach advantage

Personal Prediction:

Phoenix by 1st round TKO

Will it be Arseworth or Brent? Mark or Phoenix? Repeat or Redemption?

Who will proceed to the final round?

Grab your tickets now and head on to Hayashi's Lounge NY and know the answer yourself.

PRELIMS

Middleweight bout

Colten Bronsten (0-0-0) vs Mamadou Williams (1-1-0)

Lightweight bout

Daniel Mulholland (0-0-0) vs Shiba Chiharu (0-0-0)

Heavyweight bout

John Colt (1-1-0) vs Joe Son Pierre (1-2-0)

Light Heavyweight bout

SF Candidate (1-2-0) vs Johnny Truth (3-0-0)

Super Heavyweight bout

Cheese Daddy (2-1-0) vs Knarles Barkley (1-2-0)

MAIN CARD

Light Heavyweight bout

Edgar Boon (2-1-0) vs Timothy Mcgrady (2-1-0)

After falling to Ugandan Knuckles last IXF 4, Edgar Boon is back in the IXF main card as he faces the newcomer Mcgrady. Mcgrady has been on a roll with 2 straight TKOs on his recent matches. One interesting thing about them is the fact that all of their matches end in a 1st round finish regardless of a win or loss. This is your traditional standup vs ground fighter clash.

Key Areas:

KO Power and Chin

Mcgrady's strength

Standup vs Ground

Prediction:

Boon via 1st round TKO

Light Heavyweight bout

Rodrigo Laranja (2-0-0) vs Rod Hurricane (2-1-0)

Laranja the sub specialist (finished 2 opponents in the first round) goes head-to-head against MT specialist Hurricane. Laranja's ground game can be very deadly specially for inferior guys on BJJ. Hurricane's very high aggression can be dangerous but detrimental. I believe a properly set strategy will get you out of this bump.

Key Areas:

Laranja's ground game vs Hurricane's game.

Hurricane cuts easily

Prediction:

Laranja by 1st round sub

Welterweight bout

Honda Housey (3-0-0) vs Brent Stoner (4-1-0)

For our next match, we have Housey (3 consecutive QTF fatches) going up against Comeback Kid Stoner. Both are absolutely great ground fighters, expect a grappling match on this one.

Key Areas:

House's tendency to cut.

Stoner's chin

Ground game

Prediction:

Stoner via 3rd round off

MAIN EVENT

IXF Lightweight Title

Tommy Doyle(3-0-0) vs Ruben Nevez (4-0-0)

http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/15202146072131.jpg VS http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14830250686385.png

For our co-main event, we present to you the IXF Lightweight title match. This will be Doyle's first title defense after winning the title against Amari Dion in IXF 7. His first defense will not be easy as he faces a very powerful fighter in Ruben Nevez. Nevez has been a terror in the QFC, winning all his 4 matches. All of which ended in a first round knockout in the first minute of the match. Not only that, he's won 2 matches in just 5 seconds! The champion's chin will truly be tested in this one. He's never been KO'd before so let's see if Nevez has enough strength to do so. Skill wise, both fighters are similar in build, each equipped with boxing and wrestling as their primary skills. This will surely be a great striking and clinch match.

Key Areas:

Who has the better chin given that both fighters are capable of scoring a knockout

Who has the better physicals?

Prediction:

Nevez by first round TKO

IXF Welterweight Title

Venari Venator(4-0-0) vs Kazuma Onodera(4-1-0)

http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/43/43w19.jpg VS http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14574901304988.png

And now for our second co-main event, the IXF Welterweight Champion Venari Venator will face the challenger Kazuma Onodera! After losing in IXF 3, Onodera was released by his manager. After being acquired by a new manager he earned his title shot with a win against Axel Foley . Venator on the other hand is on a roll with 4 straight wins, 3 of which coming in a first round TKO. He basically destroyed Sands Jr. (who by the way is the man who defeated Onodera in IXF 3). Venator is well equipped with standup skills necessary to punch through an opponent's chin and given that Onodera is a submission specialist, he will need to bring Venator down to the mat (Venator was never taken down by an opponent) to get a chance in this one.

Will there be a new champ? Or will Venator again showcase his standup skills against a ground fighter?

Key Areas:

Standup vs Ground

Onodera: Takedown or lose

Onodera's chin against venator's power

Prediction:

Venator by 1st round TKO

IXF 11

http://mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1520081327IXF11.png

PRELIMS

Welterweight bout

Donatello Vigoriano (1-3-0) vs Al Bear (1-3-0)

Welterweight bout

Max Chaos (1-0-0) vs Ryan Garcia (0-0-0)

Welterweight bout

Thomas McCall (0-0-0) vs Boo Yaj (0-0-0)

Welterweight bout

Ed Bing (2-0-0) vs Timmy Thompson (1-0-0)

Middleweight bout

Middle Weight (2-2-0) vs Fernando Oreiro (2-1-0)

MAIN CARD

Middleweight bout

Braxxton Triggs (1-0-0) vs Tomo Jr (1-0-0)

Two young talents will be making their first IXF debut after each winning in the QFC. They both scored a quick finish in their wins. Triggs is a boxer/wrestler fighter while Tomo Jr. is a pure ground fighter.

As of now, it isn't evident who will win but Tomo will have the slight advantage on morale as Triggs keeps training in the Cozad gym.

Key Areas:

Standup vs ground

Morale

Prediction:

Tomo by 1st round submission

Lightweight bout

Hwai Ja (4-1-0) vs Mark Henderson (3-1-0)

Hwai Ja was formerly a fighter in the IFC, now he takes his talents to IXF as he climbs up the fighter rankings. He will be facing the BJJ brown belt Mark Henderson. Ja is a very strong standup fighter. With his boxing and clinchwork mixed with his KO power, he's had 4 wins by TKO in the first round. However, Henderson can use his ground superiority given that Ja already lost to an opponent in just 18 seconds by submission.

Key Areas:

Standup vs ground

KO power vs submissions

Henderson's granite chin

Prediction:

Henderson by 1st round submission

Middleweight bout

Rob Hammond (3-0-0) vs Saffron Xanthous (2-0-0)

Two undefeated former IFC fighters go head to head as Hammond (3 wins, 3 wins by TKO) faces Xanthous (2 wins, 2 decisions). Xanthous' solid chin was proven and tested with fighters with KO power. Hammond on the other hand has KO'd some fighters with good chins. Nonetheless, they are both good standup fighters. Hammond has boxing while Xanthous has Muay Thai. Let's see who wins the striking and who wins the clinch game.

Key Areas:

Clinchwork

Power and chin

Boxing vs MT

Prediction:

Xanthous by decision

Middleweight bout

Mike Hunt (3-0-0) vs Romulo Nascimento (2-0-0)

For the second main attraction of the night, we have another set of undefeated fighters. Hunt has 3 TKOs up his sleeve when he was in the QFC. Nascimento on the other hand is a submission artist, winning both of his matches by sub (the most recent was in IXF 7). This will be your typical clinch fighter vs ground fighter. The middleweight competition is intense but one of these fighters can go for the title soon if they grab the W.

Key Areas:

Clinch vs Ground

MT vs BJJ

Hunt's KO Power

Prediction:

Nascimento by 1st round submission

MAIN EVENT

IXF Middleweight Title

Greg Bundy(3-1-0) vs Eric Alequin (2-0-0)

http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/14/14w13.jpg VS http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/41/41w5.jpg

This Sunday, we will be crowning the first ever Middleweight champion (who will surely be not taking a rest with all the middleweights aspiring to be the next champions in IXF). Greg Bundy has been on a roll winning 3 straight wins after his debut loss in the QFC. With 3 TKOs he looks to overpower Alequin who won 2 sub of the night awards in his 2 outings in the IXF. This will be Bundy's IXF debut and he was given the title shot immediately due to his intense popularity. Will Bundy get another KO win or will Alequin get another sub of the night award?

Bundy's standup game will be his key factor here, and Alequin will need a takedown to gain the upper hand.

Key Areas:

Standup vs Ground

Clinchwork vs Submissions

Bundy's KO Power and Chin

Prediction:

Alequin by 1st round submission

I know we are all excited to how IXF is growing. Keep in touch as we aim higher. Champions are filling up. Contenders are rising. IXF is ready for takeoff!

IXF 12

http://mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1520823932IXF%2012.jpg

This Saturday, let's head on again to Hayashi's Lounge to witness the best MMA here in the island. We start off with a set of different fights that will surely give you the daily dose of mma you will need. Not only that, we highlight to you great matchups in store. Escobar faces Foley, Lighty faces butt, and of course Drake Fury's first title defense. What more do you need? Grab your tickets now and get yourself some damn good MMA.

PRELIMS

Welterweight bout

William Scout (2-2-0) vs Hoki Poki (0-1-0)

Heavyweight bout

Bruce Banner (0-0-0) vs Brandon Waldrop (0-0-0)

Heavyweight bout

Randy Jacobs (4-2-0) vs Keyshawn Davis (0-0-0)

Welterweight bout

Medusa Grip (2-2-0) vs Bobby Sands Jr. (2-2-0)

Welterweight bout

Kamakiri Yoritomo (1-0-0) vs Jeff Spicoli (3-2-0)

Heavyweight bout

Dave Abbott (2-0-0) vs Rick Roller (3-2-0)

MAIN CARD

Welterweight bout

Michael Escobar (4-0-0) vs Axel Foley (4-2-0)

In this bout, 2 of the top 5 IXF welterweights go head to head. The undefeated Escobar (3-0 in IXF) takes on Foley (3-1 in IXF). This is gonna be a good match given that they are both heavy handed standup fighters. Escobar's 4 wins all came with TKOs proving that no chin will have an easy time with him on the octagon. Foley's losses on the other hand were all by submission, which means he is yet to be defeated by a standup fighter. Escobar is more of a MT specialist while Foley is the better boxer.

Key Areas:

MT vs Box

Distance and Clinch game

KO Power vs KO Power

Prediction:

Escobar by 2nd round TKO

Light Heavyweight bout

Lighty LightHeavyweight (4-0-0) vs Rex Butt (3-0-0)

The former light heavyweight champion of the island org IFC has now come to IXF! He will be facing Rex Butt who has dominated the QFC in his recent matches scoring 3 quick TKOs in the first round. Both fighters are currently among the top 10 light heavyweights in the island and ranked 4th and 6th in IXF rankings despite the very tough competition within this division. A win in this one will significantly boost their rankings and might give them a shot at the title which will either be held by Capri or Knuckles (a very exciting match also).

Expect a great KO Power showdown between these two which will most likely end in a TKO finish. Skill wise, both fighters have the same nature of fighting style but with different levels of masteries in each discipline. Butt has better boxing while Lighty has better MT and wresting. In my opinion, this will solely depend on striking and who wins the clinch game.

Key Areas:

KO Power vs KO Power

Clinch game

Strength and chin battle

Prediction:

Lighty by 2nd round TKO

MAIN EVENT

IXF Heavyweight Title

Drake Fury(7-0-0) vs Akamu Kalani (3-2-0)

http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14565873852214.png VS http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/38/38b11.jpg

And now for the main event of the night! We present to you the unbeatable submission master Drake Fury! Match by match he completely shows no mercy in the ground where all his wins came from. He won the title last IXF 8 against Lono and now he faces a new challenger for his first title defense. Kalani is ranked 5th among heavyweights in IXF. This will be the first time that Kalani will face a ground specialist and it surely is a deadly one. However, Kalani's outstanding KO power can possibly break through Fury's chin given that he's KO'd Roller (who has granite chin btw) in his previous match in just over a minute. The question here is: "Can he stay on his feet? Can he survive in the ground for a standup?"

Nonetheless, this is still gonna be a great match fought between fighters of different styles. Stay tuned!

Key Areas:

Ground vs Standup

TD vs Clinch

Fury's chin vs Kalani's KO power

Prediction:

Fury by 1st round submission

And now for another dose of IXF! We present to you a double title fight night! We headline two great title fights. Lesnar faces Kalawaia for the Super heavyweight title. Knuckles faces Capri for the light heavyweight title! What are you waiting for? Am I the only one excited here? Island MMA has been the best here in IXF. See you!

PRELIMS

Light Heavyweight bout

Val Ewe (0-2-0) vs Lauro Turturro (1-0-0)

Light Heavyweight bout

Bryan Schaub (1-0-0) vs Android Twenty Two (1-2-0)

Lightweight bout

Hans Baier (2-1-0) vs Alisson Becker (1-1-0)

Lightweight bout

Tyson Dyson (4-1-0) vs Ernesto Carvallo (1-0-0)

Super Heavyweight bout

Raphael The Ninja Turtle (2-2-0) vs George Fredericks (2-0-0)

Lightweight bout

Gabriel Azevedo Souza (2-0-0) vs Ryo Tanaka (2-0-0)

Heavyweight bout

Barry Zuckerkorn (3-1-0) vs Rene Duchene (2-0-0)

Light Heavyweight bout

Little Tony (3-2-0) vs Sum Ting Wong (5-1-0)

CO-MAIN EVENT

http://oi64.tinypic.com/308usf9.jpg

For the first title match of the night, we will tackle on the two undefeated warriors Kalawaia and Lesnar. Kalawaia was the Super Heavyweight champ of IFC and now he takes his talents to IXF. Lesnar has made a good start in his career with 3 wins, 2 coming from IXF. Kalawaia is an absolute beast with 5 TKO wins. All of which are because of his balanced standup and ground game. He KO'd even granite chins and took down different fighters too while punishing them with some GnP. On the other hand Lesnar is a pure ground fighter with great wresting and BJJ skills. His smart play to take the opponent down has given him the edge in all of his fights. Kalawaia might be his toughest opponent so far though.

Key Areas:

KO Power and Chin (both fighter)

Will Lesnar take Kalawaia down?

Or.. Who gets the takedown?

Prediction:

Kalawaia by 2nd round TKO

2.png

And now for the match we have all been waiting for. This is probably one of the best Island fights up-to-date! Capri is currently ranked 2nd P4P and Knuckles is ranked 4th. Arguably the best light heavyweights in IXF right now. Now, these unbeatable beasts go head to head to be the first ever IXF light heavyweight champ! Knockout power is no doubt a key here given that both fighters have proven to be monsters with their punches. They have destroyed merely every opponent they faced, none of which ever reaching the judge's scorecard. However, we still don't know who has enough chin to face the other. We'll see by then

Skill wise, no evident advantage here because Capri has MT while Knuckles has boxing. No matter what the results are, I personally want a rematch right away, no doubt.

Will Capri go on for 7th straight or Knuckles for 6th straight?

Will they reach the scorecards?

Will Knuckles maintain his 1st round KO streak?

Will you be there to see it? Of course yes!

Key Areas:

KO Power vs KO Power

Who has the better chin

Who has the better standup tactics

Clinch game

Prediction:

Knuckles by 2nd round TKO

It’s been 5 months since the NYFN owner Bjorn O’Donnel came up with the ultimate creation tourney ever. A tournament where the legends battle other legends, and when I say legends, I mean top 10 (current or former) managers in MMATycoon! Now how big is that? You gotta answer your own question there mate!

Despite this amazing journey, we have now come to the end of the road. The match where it matters most. We present to you

NYFN LEGENDS TOURNAMENT: FINAL

http://mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1522077179Finals.jpg

We started with 20 fighters. Some legends went on with multiple testing trying to get the best fighter they could (If I’m not mistaken the learning speed was bad at this point in time). Some went on with bravery and entered without bothering to test them. Regardless, everyone expected an A game here. Finally, when it’s all been set, all fighters were confirmed and grouped in 2 divisions.

pool.png

Each fighter battled their best for 9 rounds, trying to edge the other. Fun fact! Up until round 4, all fights in the tourney had ended with a finish. Yes sir... that’s how competitive it was. Up until the end, it was good competition. The top 4 fighters held on to their respective positions around round 6 / 7 of the tournament and never let go. David Brent and Billy Arseworth solidified their position around the 8th round. The fighters to proceed from Pool 2 were only decided until the final elimination round where Marky Mark and Blake Phoenix made it.

To everyone who has been following this tourney, it has been one hell of a ride and will surely go down to MMA Tycoon history. A lot of fighters aspired to reach the top but now only two fighters remain. One of which is about to be crowned the Legends Tournament Champion this coming April 1.

Before I proceed to the fighter breakdown, let’s not forget the brains behind the success of the finalists. These fighters would not have been here if not for them. Managers Marky Mark (Currently ranked 19, former Number 1) and David Brent (Currently ranked 2, also former Number 1).

THE MANAGERS
mgr.png

Here they are guys, the top 2 managers of this tournament. They absolutely performed their best and proved that they can be the best of the best. Marky’s got an outstanding historical record at 1132-702 with more than 1800 matches! Now that’s what we call a veteran. David Brent isn’t backing down either with his 271-81 W-L record (around 75%) makes him an absolute beast.

Taking a look back at the former encounters of these two, they actually have faced each other for three times now.

mgr2.png

David Brent leads their head-to-head 2-1. Their first encounter was a battle between Fakiiri and Sackett in the CFC 397 headliner. Sackett was Brent’s recent acquisition and Fakiiri was dominating Destiny back then. Sackett won by decision and became CFC champion thereafter.

Almost a year after, they faced each other again in CEC 533. Marky’s fighter Partio won by majority decision in 3 rounds. Partio later on ventured into other organizations while Durden continued on to make a run in the CEC.

Their third and most recent encounter was in GAMMA 661. This one was quite interesting because Marky was managing Brent’s former fighter Citizen. In the main event of GAMMA 661, Keenan got the judge’s nod after 5 great rounds of MMA. Citizen’s career is on a bit of a downfall but can still make it back at his age while Keenan is on a roll reaching top 3 P4P and currently ranked 15 P4P (2nd among featherweights).

Now they meet again, at the most prestigious creation tournament final ever. It’s the 4th episode of Marky Mark vs David Brent.

THE FIGHTERS
Capture.png

In the Semifinals, it was a night of vengeance. Marky Mark defeated the only guy to defeat him in this tourney which was way back in the first round, Blake Phoenix. Mark showcased a dominant performance all throughout earning him the judges’ nod.

Brent on the other hand defeated Billy Arseworth, the man who defeated him in round 7. This time, Brent won via first round KO victory in just 12 strikes! His power was just too much for Arseworth.

As the tourney progressed, these guys proved to be the best fighters in each of their respective groups. Now, they are to face each other for the first time.

Taking a look at their skillset, no one is the obvious winner here. Mark is obviously the better boxer and has a slight advantage in wrestling but Brent has significantly better muay thai. Also, each fighter is equipped with spectacular striking skills together with tremendous KO power which can be a pain to any fighter’s chin. They each have 8 TKOs up their sleeve, and a number of them came from opponents with good chins. With the right strategy and timing, anyone could go home via with a knockout in this one.

Another key here is Mark’s height, he does have the reach advantage but given Brent’s overall standup advantage he may or may not outstrike Mark once he closes the gap. In their past fights, both fighters have shown they could also fight in the clinch but we wouldn’t know who is the better clinch fighter as of now.

They’ve got about a week to train and a lot could still change. A winner today might go home a loser in April 1.

Will Marky Mark call it quits with 2-2 or will David Brent make a statement with 3-1

Sadly, with a victor comes a loser and the end to this awesome tournament. A tournament which will surely be remembered.

Personal prediction: Marky Mark by unanimous decision

CO-MAIN EVENT

IXF Welterweight Title

1.png

Onodera was released by his previous manager after a loss in IXF 3. He was acquired by his new manager and since then has risen back up the island rankings. He is currently ranked 3 P4P in the island and he plans to continue his submission spree.

In his last match, the champion Onodera proved critics and the former champ Venator that he is no joke. He is here to conquer the island with his ground game. As the reigning welterweight champ, he’s to defend his title for the first time against a fellow ground fighter Honda Housey.

Housey is currently undefeated with 4 straight wins, 3 of which by TKO. Housey’s most remarkable performance was his recent win against Brent Stoner. He landed all GnPs thrown in the ground, striking through Stoner’s chin.

This will be a KO vs Sub fight between two ground fighters. Great fight ahead.

Key Areas:

Onodera’s Chin

KO power vs Sub

Who gets position?

Prediction:

Onodera by 2nd round submission

IXF Middleweight Title

Capture.png

After a Greg Bundy’s loss in his MMA debut, he’s been unstoppable. He’s found his game so far and has knocked out 4 opponents in at most 2 rounds. He’s been displaying a great use of his KO power, striking and clinchwork. Top it off with his granite chin, he is gonna be a difficult opponent if the fight remains on their feet. He gets to defend his title for the first time after being crowned the first IXF Middleweight champ back in IXF 11 when he defeated Alequin.

The challenger Mike Hunt is a fighter with a similar fighting style with Bundy. With Muay Thai and wrestling, he gets the TKOs, 3 of which ending in the first round. He’s been on a roll and after only 1 fight in IXF he automatically gets a shot at the belt. Bundy might have the best chin in Hunt’s opponent so far so let’s see if he gets the TKO this time.

Skill wise, no clear advantage given that they have similar fighting style. Bundy is more leaned towards wrestling while Hunt is more leaned towards Muay Thai. I’ll be expecting a TKO in around 2 rounds.

Key Areas:

Striking and Clinchwork

KO Power

Whose chin is better?

Prediction:

Bundy via 2nd round TKO

ASPIRE SWANSONG TOURNAMENT

ROUND 1

http://mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1521323148Swansong%201.png

After a long haul, Aspire is now on it's grand exit working on a tournament as its finale. A group of 8 talented superstars battle each other for the crown.

In the first round, fighters battled a KT match in a cage for three 5 minute rounds. Since Kevin Hart has not accepted his contract Kotetsu Yamamoto will win his first round matchup by default advancing to the grappling round.

As expected, competition was very intense. Trivia: this is the first KT match of each participant. Let's see how they played it out.

Also, all the other matches ended in a decision victory.

Match 1

Capture.png

Built and Sackett are well known in the league because of their championship caliber skills. Built is the reigning OFC featherweight champ (ranked 88 P4P) while Sackett is the reigning Syn lightweight champ (ranked 9 P4P). Mordecai was the favorite given that he has more matches, 20 of which are title matches he won. Built didn't back down and fought according to his plan.

The outstanding fighters went all out in a 3 round thriller. It was a very tightly contested match between these two. Their striking skills and defensive technique are almost on par with each other, which was evident in their performance. What came through here was the clinch maneuvers by Built earning him the much needed points for the decision.

They used a variety of strikes in order to mix up their opponents, both throwing a total of around 100 strikes each. In the end, it was very hard to decide but 1 judge oddly scored the 2nd and 3rd rounds to Sackett as opposed to the other 2 judges. Built won 2 of the 3 judges earning him the split decision win.

Winner: Maui Built via Split Decision

Match 2

2.png

Former Pulse and PFC champion Brixton (ranked 50 among featherweights) took on former Ascension and Generation champ Brophy.

The Brophy and Brixton matchup was getting hyped up as they have a heated exchange before the fight. When they finally had the chance to prove themselves in the cage, it was Brophy who got the win. Both fighters are almost identical in primaries and basically the key was their respective strategies. Their chins are very reliable, both fighters never have been TKO'd in a match, most likely the reason why it ended in a decision win.

Brophy was very aggressive in striking, with about 3 times more strikes thrown and landed compared to Brixton. His aggressive strategy gave him the clear upper hand all throughout the match. Brophy maintained control of the match despite suffering a cut mid game. In the end, he earned the judges' 3 votes 30-27.

Winner: Brophy via Unanimous Decision

Match 3

3.png

For the third match, Bruyne the former NEX and Legacy champion who's been crossing weight classes with no problem faces former DUEL champion Puno. Bruyne has more experience in fighting given that he has 51 matches already compared to Puno who only has 1/3 of his total fights.

Despite that, the two fighters still put on a good show, showcasing tremendous striking skills. Like other remarkable fighters, they hardly get KO'd and they have good defense skills.

In the match, Bruyne turned out to be very aggressive, landing a whole lot of strikes but Puno still got away with the win because of 2 knockdowns, tremendous power right there!

Maybe it was too much aggression for Bruyne? Possibly it was what Puno planned all along.

Winner: Puno via Unanimous Decision

As expected, no one got KO'd and it was a showdown of the better technique.

Next round will be grappling so prepare for some ground maneuvering skills later on.

That's all for the first round of the tourney.

Next up, Brophy will be facing Built while Yamamoto will face Puno. Winner advances to the final round.

GAMMA: April Part 2 by James Isaac Abraham

GAMMA #702
Superheavyweight Bout
Hennan Hoyce vs Brandon Simmons

Both fighters have fallen in the hands of the reigning champ Bubba Gumption. As they look to climb back up the top of the rankings and get another shot, a win in this one would give them a boost for the contender spot. A must win for both fighters.

The first round was a feast. Simmons was more cautious in his striking, landing shots with greater accuracy through counters while Hoyce was the opposite, who was looking to land multiple shots despite missing more than half of his thrown punches.

Just before the 3rd minute, Simmons’ strategy seems to have started to pay off and almost knocked Hoyce out. However, Hoyce quickly retaliates and unleashed his inner beast knocking down Simmons in an instant. When Simmons lost control it was a barrage of heavy punches and Hoyce got the W.

Winner: Hennan Hoyce by 1st round TKO

Featherweight Title
Gareth Keenan vs Jiri Sayonara
After his successful revenge match against Mirowski, Keenan is right back in the championship game. He successfully defended his title against Sayonara using his well rounded striking game. The champion showed his technique and control of the match, defending a total of 11 takedown attempts, thrown over 200 strikes and around 100 strikes landed. Sayonara was no easy opponent but overall, this was Keenan’s match from the get go.

This win pushed Keenan back to rank 12 P4P, and 2nd among all featherweights.

Winner: Gareth Keenan retains title by Unanimous Decision

GAMMA #703
Superheavyweight Title
Bubba Gumption vs Gerbert Bryant

One of the most interesting rivalries in GAMMA heavyweights is back. Reigning champ and number 1 Superheavyweight Bubba Gumption faced the veteran and former GAMMA Superheavyweight champion Gerbert Bryant, marking the 4th time they faced in GAMMA. The head-to-head before the match was 2-1 in favor of Bryant.

Bryant dominated the first round as soon as he successfully took down the champ to the mat. In the 2nd round, it was Gumption’s turn to retaliate. Before Bryant even got a TD attempt, Gumption was landing the strikes effectively with high accuracy. Bryant has only been knocked out 4 times in his career before this match but Gumption’s power was too much for him. The sequence of a hook and an uppercut by Gumption was the end of Bryant.

Gumption proved that he is indeed a champ as he equalized the series against Bryant. This win is now his 5th successful defense in his current title run (all ended via KO, 4 of which in the first round). Bryant will need to get a win soon as he lost his form in his recent matches with a record of 5-5 in his last 10 matches, sliding down to rank 100 P4P and 4th among Superheavyweights.

Winner: Bubba Gumption retains title by 2nd round KO

GAMMA #704
Light Heavyweight Superfight
Menace Defoe (GAMMA) vs Benjamin BK (OFC)

OFC reigning LHW champ Benjamin BK was invited to our very own GAMMA #704 to face one of the best LHWs in history. Long running champ and future hall of famer Defoe welcomes the OFC champ in his home turf with extreme dominance, outclassing BK in almost every aspect of the match.

Defoe destroyed the OFC champ. With around 3 times more strikes landed, BK was barely holding on since the second round and Defoe was very accurate with his strikes. He defended all 11 takedown attempts and his use of the clinch was also superb. The match ended in the 5th via TKO with BK getting knocked down 4 times along the way. Despite that, he still put on a good fight. We witnessed a true fighter and champion in Benjamin BK.

With this win, Defoe continues his feat, winning 12 of his past 13 matches. BK returns to OFC to defend his title on the 28th with no damn injury whatsoever (what a fighter).

Winner: Menace Defoe by 5th round TKO

Middleweight Title
Saul Goodman vs Ilya Mstislav Volkov

After the long rivalry between Shin and Volkov in the welterweight division, Volkov has decided to once again compete at the 185 division. His last middleweight match dates back to October 2015 and with no surprise, he faced the toughest middleweight in the world today, the reigning GAMMA Middleweight Champion. Goodman accepted the challenge, who was about to defend his belt for the 2nd time in his current title run.

The champion Saul Goodman is known for his elite technique in striking while Volkov’s 60% KO rate may have a potential impact but Goodman was just too good all throughout. With more strikes thrown and landed, Goodman took control of the match since round 1. The champ won 4 out of 5 rounds, losing the close 3rd round to Volkov. Once again, Goodman wins by decision for the 23rd time and still has never been KO’d by any opponent.

This win marks Goodman’s 8th straight win and moved him back up to rank 2 P4P. Meanwhile, Volkov is currently unsigned and will probably re-sign in GAMMA or test the waters in another top level org.

Winner: Saul Goodman retains Middleweight Title by Unanimous Decision

GAMMA: May part 1 by James Isaac Abraham

GAMMA#705

Lightweight Title

Randy Springs vs Ray Malenko

Two world class lightweights met each other for the first time in their careers. Before entering the match, both fighters were on a dominant win streak, Springs with 5 and Malenko with 6. This was a well earned title shot for the challenger Malenko, who when reunited his former manager Bobby Heyman rose the ranks in GAMMA Contenders and a 3 fight win streak in GAMMA before facing the defending champ Randy Springs.

The match was dominated by the champion. All throughout the 5 rounds, Springs was his usual self. Efficient striking, excellent defense and overall technique. Malenko did his best to bring it to the ground where he had a better chance but Springs knew that and prevented it from happening. Near the end of the 5th round, Malenko desperately tried to end it with a submission but still no good. Springs gets away with the scorecards.

Springs has been unstoppable since being acquired by manager David Brent. His only losses were only to Matthew Ridgeway who he then defeated in GAMMA#696 to reclaim the throne. His current run stands at 13-2 since January 2017 and currently ranked 1 in lightweights and 6 P4P.

Winner: Randy Springs retains Lightweight Title via Unanimous Decision

GAMMA#706

Featherweight Title

Gareth Keenan vs Karol Mirowski

In the third outing of this new found rivalry between Keenan and Mirowski, each fighter sought out to get the win over the other as they have each scored a match in their last 2 encounters. Both entering the match as top 5 featherweights, a good match was expected indeed.

This time, the story was different. Keenan was more aggressive while Mirowski was more of the defensive. Mirowski patiently waited for a big opening but Keenan took advantage of that gameplan. Keenan landed around 150 strikes while Mirowski had only around 20. He was very accurate with his striking making sure that he keeps control of the standup game. The strategy paid off as he circled Mirowski with various strikes to get the judge’s nod all 5 rounds.

This win keeps Keenan atop the featherweight rankings and back into the top 10 P4P while Mirowski slides out of the top 100. Losing 4 of his past 7 matches, Mirowski will need to get back in rhythm if he wants to get a shot again.

Winner: Gareth Keenan retains Featherweight Title via Unanimous Decision

GAMMA#707

Super Heavyweight bout

Hennan Hoyce vs Callum Pagnozzi

Entering the match as an underdog, Pagnozzi defeated the odds. Hoyce, ranked 30 P4P was en route to another KO win with his 100% KO win record. Pagnozzi displayed great accuracy and defense partnered with his granite chin brought him into a favorable position, knocking the chin out of the older and former champ Hennan Hoyce. The big knockdown in the early minutes shook Hoyce’s composure and with 5 seconds left in the round, he just did not make the bell.

Pagnozzi gets a significant boost in rankings and few steps closer to the belt. He’ll probably be in the title scene sooner or later. Hoyce is now 2-3 in his last 5 matches and needs to pick it up to get another shot soon.

Winner: Callum Pagnozzi via 1st round TKO

GAMMA#708

Lightweight Title

Randy Springs vs Jeff Gower

In just 2 weeks after successfully defending his title against Malenko, Springs steps up to once again defend his title for the third time. This time, he faces a former champ in Jeff Gower. Jeff Gower is no stranger in the championship scene given his success in Ascension and his long career in UGD. After losing the belt to Fook Man, he took his talents to GAMMA and gets a title shot in his GAMMA debut.

With no surprise, it was a hell of a good match. At first glance you would’ve expected Springs to dominate in the match with his advantage in all disciplines but Gower surprised him. The match proceeded to be mainly a clinch showdown between both fighters. With more than 100 strikes thrown in the clinch, no fighter was backing down. In the end, it was a very close call to make and Gower went away with the W.

Winner: Jeff Gower wins Lightweight Title via Split Decision

Middleweight Title

Saul Goodman vs Hector Verama

The streaking Goodman with 8 straight wins faced the challenger Hector Verama with 4 straight wins, earning his spot at the title scene again. Verama’s fallen to Defoe twice in the 205 division and now moved down to 185 to eventually face the champ Goodman.

Almost evenly matched in standup skills, it was indeed a great match and worthy of a main event. Both fighters traded blows with almost equivalent numbers and you wouldn’t who would win until the end of the bell. Nearing the end of the bell, Verama was on the verge of winning after scoring a big takedown. With his superior BJJ he could’ve submitted Goodman but the champ kept his guard and defended the subs successfully. After 5 great rounds, 3 judges had varying opinions with 47-48 48-48 and 48-47 giving the match a draw. Great match for both fighters. We can expect a rematch soon.

Result: Draw. Goodman retains Middleweight Title.

GAMMA: May Part 2 by James Isaac Abraham

GAMMA#709

Middleweight Bout

Razmig Grigorian vs Rupert Blasts

Grigorian has been on fire as of late. The former Daredevils MMA Middleweight Champion has never lost a fight since his first and only loss in his MMA debut. He’s now moved up to a bigger competition by joining GAMMA. In turn, he faced GAMMA veteran in Rupert Blasts who keeps running around the top 100-200 P4P, waiting for his shot at the title.

Grigorian’s KO power is devastating with 13 out of his 14 wins were finished by KO. Rupert’s chin was no joke but Grigorian managed to KO him in just 2 rounds. Grigorian’s efficient and deadly strikes got him the KO. Blasts got rocked in the first round and that may have affected the rest of the match.

With this, Grigorian breaks through the top 25 P4P. Great fighter and we must keep an eye on him.

Result: Grigorian by 2nd round TKO

Welterweight Superfight

Musta Laine (GAMMA) vs Euphegen Doubdtfire (CEC)

Another treat for us MMA fans as we get to witness a top level superfight in another GAMMA vs CEC superfight. GAMMA welterweight champ Musta Laine faced the reigning CEC featherweight and bantamweight champ Euphegen Doudbtfire. This is the first time that these future legends have faced each other.

We don’t always get a chance to see two well rounded fighters go against each other. In the match, Doubdtfire was more aggressive and accurate in striking all throughout, getting more strikes thrown and landed. Doubdtfire controlled the match with a balance of striking and ground tactics, giving him the judges’ nod. Another key factor right there was the clinch game which Euphegen won this time. Laine was the more aggressive ground fighter, with near sub attempts that just did not pull through. In the end, there is always a winner and Euphegen got the unanimous victory.

Doubdtfire stands tall at #2 P4P falling behind Kimbo while Laine will look to defend his title once again sooner or later.

Result: Doubdtfire by Unanimous Decision

GAMMA#710

Superheavyweight Title

Bubba Gumption vs Dustin Kruger

After a loss to the top P4P fighter Kimbo Slice, Gumption defended his title against the challenger Kruger. Kruger has been to different top level organizations and he has now landed in GAMMA looks to grab the belt against Gumption. With the surge in rankings, and defeating the former champ Gerbert Bryant, Kruger has earned his right to the title in just his 2nd match in GAMMA.

It was a very slow paced match as both fighters looked to get the best opportunity. The match was closely contested until Kruger got the finish. Round 1 was so close and most likely was won by Gumption despite being knocked down by Kruger. Gumption quickly retaliates and won the round instead. The second round was more of Kruger. The 3rd ended early in favor of Kruger after a wonderful knockdown and finish. Kruger’s head strikes played a huge role in this one as it broke through Gumption’s chin.

Kruger handed Gumption his 2nd straight loss, putting him down to #48 P4P. Kruger gets a significant boost to #16 P4P. I’d expect a rematch sooner or later.

Result: Kruger wins Super Heavyweight Title via 3rd round Submission (Strikes)

GAMMA#711

Middleweight Title

Saul Goodman vs Hector Verama

The most awaited rematch between these two great fighters have come so quickly. The match that ended via Draw needed to be done as soon as possible for closure.

As expected, it was another one hell of a good match. A close one too. Striking skills were evident for both fighters, and we could see that their chins are also hard as hell going through the full length of the match. Even I wouldn’t be sure who won that given that they were almost equal in the match. However, Goodman may have took some more points on his clinch attempts defended and his slightly more aggressive striking. Excellent cage control there by the champ. I bet it was really hard for the judges to decide but in the end, the champ got the nod.

Result: Goodman retains Middleweight Title via Split Decision

CEC 589

Light Heavyweight Superfight

Menace Defoe (GAMMA) vs Sergey Beznisko (CEC)

Another episode of the GAMMA vs CEC rivalry and in CEC 589 we featured GAMMA LHW champ Defoe going against CEC LHW champ Beznisko. Beznisko comes with a great win against Evil Nixon in the star studded event Supernova VIII and shortly after he faces a future legend in Menace Defoe. Both were ranked the top 2 LHW fighters in the world and an exciting match is surely in the books.

The match was going how Beznisko exactly wanted it to be. His great grappling and ground game gave him the edge and all he needed to do was time his clinch and TD attempts. All in all, Beznisko successfully took down Defoe 5 times, clinched Defoe 9 times, and had more strikes landed. Smart play by the CEC champ, defeating the legend Defoe.

.Beznisko’s 2 recent wins has boosted him way up, and is now back to #4 P4P. Defoe slides down to #17 P4P, garnering only his 5th loss at age 32. Both champs now head back to their home organizations to defend their respective titles. I’d want a rematch sooner or later between these two.

Result: Beznisko via Unanimous Decision

GAMMA: June Part 1 by James Isaac Abraham

GAMMA#712

Featherweight Title

Gareth Keenan vs Tony Ramos

The challenger Tony Ramos gets his 2nd shot at the belt after falling to Randy Springs back in GAMMA#701 while Gareth Keenan keeps his good form with his 4th title defense. Ramos has better ground offense but Keenan was ready for it. He blocked most of the takedowns (Ramos had 3 out of 17 TDs), clinches (Ramos had 1 out of 12) and kept control in the ground.

The champ just showed his class right there with efficient striking and good defense. Great challenger in Ramos, but the champ outclassed him this time. Two judges scored 48-47 while the other scored a 50-46 sweep.

Result: Gareth Keenan retains Featherweight Title via Unanimous Decision

GAMMA#713

Light Heavyweight Title

Ghazi Okah vs Menace Defoe

A rematch from the new formed rivalry between the two. Okah gets another shot at the GAMMA veteran Defoe after winning 2 straight matches and earning his right to the belt. Defoe on the other hand returns from a superfight loss against the top ranked LHW Beznisko in CEC 589.

In their last outing, Defoe got the W in a closely contested showdown between the two. This time, it was Okah who was more aggressive and confident landing more strikes with higher efficiency. In the first 3 rounds, it was all Okah dominating and showing his class in offense and defense. However, Defoe evolved in rounds 4 and 5 trying to stage a comeback. A champ really never backs down. Defoe got the last 2 rounds but it wasn’t enough given that Okah had the early advantage. Great fight, new champion. I want a third match.

Result: Ghazi Okah wins Light Heavyweight Title via Unanimous Decision

Lightweight Title

Jeff Gower vs Ray Malenko

The former UGD champ wasted no time heading over to GAMMA and took over the belt immediately. Sitting on his new throne, he faces a former TWGC champ in Malenko.

The challenger Malenko is an excellent grappler and obviously this would be his key weapon in the match. However, Gower was ready and he used his advantages to his strength. He dominated the standup game and was aggressive in the clinch. Malenko was not able to do anything at all in the ground because of Gower’s escapes and defense. Excellent display of class and technique by Gower. I expect him to have a good title run in GAMMA.

With this, Gower is now back into the top 10 P4P rankings while Malenko falls off the top 100. Let’s see if Malenko gets another shot soon.

Result: Jeff Gower retains Lightweight Title via Unanimous Decision

GAMMA#714

Super Heavyweight TItle

Dustin Kruger vs Callum Pagnozzi

When Bubba Gumption fell to Kruger in GAMMA#710, we knew this guy was the real deal. Another former UGD champ taking over right here in GAMMA. His first defense was against a veteran in Pagnozzi who won 4 straight prior to the match.

Pagnozzi’s strategy this time was to take it to the ground landing 3 good takedowns but Kruger escapes all of them easily. Kruger knew he would win the standup game and it was evident as he landed almost all of his strikes. All those strikes coming from Kruger was too much for Pagnozzi’s granite chin. The 29 year old champ Kruger kept coming and Pagnozzi couldn’t hold on early in the 2nd round.

Result: Dustin Kruger retains Super Heavyweight Title via 2nd round TKO

GAMMA#715

Middleweight Bout

Razmig Grigorian vs Yoshihiro Asai

In this bout, newcomer Razmig Grigorian (2nd fight in GAMMA) faces a long time GAMMA fighter in Yoshihiro Asai. Grigorian keeps rampaging through the rankings with 15 straight wins with his only loss way back in his debut match. At an early age of 25, he has climbed up to top 18 P4P. Such a promising young fighter. Asai on the other hand is still finding his way up the top of the rankings with ups and downs in his previous bouts. He looks to find his way up with a win against a higher ranked Grigorian.

In my opinion it was a closely contested match and in my opinion it was a battle to the end. Striking was almost on par and both fighters had good defense. Both fighters were breathing heavily in the 3rd but their determination to win was evident despite that. Epic match and I believe they are to face each other sometime soon.

In the end, Grigorian got the W with 2 judges scoring 30:27 while the other scored a draw. With this, Grigorian might have earned his shot at the title. This won’t be easy as the champ sitting on the throne is the future hall of famer Saul Goodman. Let’s see.

Result: Grigorian wins via Unanimous Decision

Welterweight Title

Musta Laine vs Tim Pierno

Two 34 year old veterans Laine and Pierno face each other again for the 3rd time. Their long running rivalry has finally come to a title match where it matters most. With 1-1 in their previous matches, a win here will settle this rivalry once and for all. In their first outing, Pierno had a quick submission win in the 1st round. The next match was a dominant win by Laine via Unanimous Decision.

This time, Laine was more aggressive with a whole lot more strikes landed. Laine was all over Pierno this time even taking Pierno down 3 times. Pierno kept trying to get good position in the ground and his 7 attempts were all blocked by Laine while landing a significant number of ground strikes. Laine showed how it is to be a champion, depriving the challenger Pierno of his first GAMMA title. It was a dominant win for the champ, all judges scoring 50:45. Pierno needs a win streak if he wants a fourth episode of their rivalry. Let’s see how he does.

Result: Musta Laine retains Welterweight Title via Unanimous Decision

GAMMA: June Part 2

by James Isaac Abraham

GAMMA#716

Featherweight bout

Karol Mirowski vs Farboleus Ricard

For the co-main event of the night, we witnessed a possible contender spot at the 145 belt. The current 135 lbs champion Mirowski is on his way back to the 145 lbs title after losing it to the current champ Gareth Keenan (who by the way became a free agent after his manager’s retirement).

The match was a tightly contested one as both fighters have shown versatility in striking. Ricard was a bit more accurate but Mirowski had more strikes landed. Despite having 5 successful takedowns, Ricard was not able to capitalize with striking nor sub attempts given that Mirowski has excellent ground defense. Most of the takedowns came in the later parts of the round and some of which resulted in a referee standup.

This would’ve gone another way but 2 of 3 judges chose Mirowski. Great match!

Result: Mirowski wins via Split Decision

Middleweight Superfight

Saul Goodman vs Russel Tyrone Jones

Two of the top 3 middleweights clash in another episode of Synchronicity vs GAMMA superfights. In a battle of two champions, one shall prevail and Jones got it this time.

The match was full of close rounds, with a very close scorecard most of the time. It was very difficult to decide given that both fighters had great striking and both fighters were also aggressive. With more than 200 strikes for each competitor, the whole crowd was on fire! Jones had significantly more body punches but Goodman capitalized on leg striking. Despite the close rounds, a winner shall be chosen and the judges have selected Syn’s representative Jones with a win.

Sadly, the departure of Mr. David Brent resulted to the release of Saul Goodman. Hopefully the next manager keeps him in GAMMA and remains competitive until the end of his career. With this, Jones moves to the top 3 in P4P rankings while Goodman slides a bit to rank 19. I’d like to see another clash of these two soon.

Result: Jones wins via Unanimous Decision

GAMMA#717

Lightweight Title

Jeff Gower vs Randy Springs

The new guy Jeff Gower has taken over! Right after his arrival in GAMMA he has dominated the division since! The main event featured a rematch between former long running champ Randy Springs and the recently crowned Jeff Gower.

It’s surprising that this match was no close call at all. Randy Springs usually gets to outmatch and outclass his opponents but in this one, Gower did. The closely contested round 1 went to the former champ Springs but the rest of the match was all Gower. Striking was no far matchup but Gower’s clinch game was monstrous. Gower dominated the match with his clinchwork, not allowing Springs to capitalize. From round 2 until the end, Gower owned the match and earned the well deserved decision win.

Gower now solidifies his claim to the throne, with his rival Randy Springs becoming a free agent, no one knows who will be the rival or will Gower be dethroned by Partio soon. Let’s see how the division goes.

Result: Gower retains Lightweight Title via Unanimous Decision

GAMMA: July Part 1

by James Isaac Abraham

GAMMA#718

Super Heavyweight Title

Dustin Kruger vs Mitzi Glozman

The new king of the division Dustin Kruger defends his title for the 2nd time. He faces the contender Glozman who has been on a roll in his past 3 fights securing a 3-0 record. The champ Kruger has proven to be a very experienced fighter, managing to secure the W despite struggling early in the fight.

Glozman secured the first 2 rounds in the scorecards, displaying his initiation in clinches. He’s managed to secure all 4 clinch attempts and surprisingly, it was Kruger who did much damage in the clinch landing more strikes. That might have been the key as he punched through Glozman’s chin bit by bit. In the 3rd round, Glozman finally fell to the champ in a brutal display of power. With a vicious uppercut followed by a series of strikes, it was over for any guy. Great save by the referee

Result: Dustin Kruger retains Super Heavyweight Title via 3rd round TKO

GAMMA#719

Super Heavyweight bout

Bubba Gumption vs Zdravko Saric

The number 1 contender spot for the title featured former SHW champ and future GAMMA Hall of Famer Bubba Gumption and the new guy Zdravko Saric who’s defeated another legend in Hennan Hoyce. Bubba lost the belt to the reigning champ Kruger and he looks to face him again with a win in this one.

Right off the bat, it was pure aggression for both fighters. Very aggressive in striking and it was obvious that the match was to end in the first round at that pace. Saric was not to be ignored with his excellent chin and massive KO power. Saric managed to knock Bubba down and he was this close to getting the finish. Surprisingly, the beast in Bubba has awaken, shaking off that damage and managed to knock Saric down right after. This time, Saric was starting to fade, with Bubba going away with the TKO victory with a wonderful fake leg kick followed by a superman punch.

Result: Bubba Gumption wins via 1st round TKO

Welterweight Title

Musta Laine vs Pablo Maracon

A usual face in the championship scene, Musta Laine faces former UGD fighter Pablo Maracon. Maracon was en route to the belt with his winning streak but the organization has called it quits. After his career in UGD he took his talents to GAMMA and earned the rights to the contender spot with a victory against Robin Yount.

It was unexpectedly very one sided in favor of the challenger Maracon. Excellent display of striking while maintaining good defense. Laine managed to pull through with 4 successful takedowns but Maracon had good ground defense. Great match indeed but Maracon got away with the victory.

Now, Maracon faces a familiar opponent in Robin Yount but this time, the belt is at stake.

Results: Pablo Maracon wins the Welterweight Title via Unanimous Decision

GAMMA#720

Lightweight Title

Jeff Gower vs Katu Partio

Excellent duel by two great fighters in champion Jeff Gower and Katu Partio. Striking was almost balanced for both fighters. Both equipped with good technique and strategy but Partio was more on the clinch grappling approach. Knowing that Gower is the better clinch striker, Partio varied his moves with alternating engage and disengage which kept the champ guessing.

Gower was more accurate in striking but Partio was more effective and he played the scorecards well. It was a very difficult fight to judge, and was evident in the varied opinions of the judges. 2 judges favored the approach Partio did, the other going for Gower. Excellent strategy and he goes home with the W. That puts Partio in 7 straight wins now while Gower will try to look for a rematch sooner or later.

Result: Katu Partio wins Lightweight Title via Split Decision

Middleweight Title

Saul Goodman vs Basten Sodergren

Newly acquired fighter Saul Goodman is now in the hands of a new top tier manager in Ed Minasian. His first fight with Minasian is a title defense against a challenger who’s been bulldozing his way to the title with 9 straight victories, Sodergren.

Both are almost evenly matched on the feet but Goodman was very aggressive coming into the fight. Known as a decision specialist with 24 decision victories, he seems to have gone for a KO in this one. Slow start for Goodman but he took control right after the first round. Sodergren was so close to survive the barrage but Goodman was relentless to finish the match in the third. Goodman gets away with a KO win, his first KO in his past 18 matches.

Result: Saul Goodman retains Middleweight Title via 3rd round TKO

CEC 600

Featherweight bout

Pako Laine vs De Bruyne

In a star studded event in CEC 600, De Bruyne represented GAMMA in a duel of veterans. Former top 27 fighter Pako Laine faced former top 26 De Bruyne.

It was expected to be a very competitive match given the skills of both fighters. They didn’t fail to give us a good show. Both fighters threw around 200 strikes each but De Bruyne was more efficient. Great showdown, great technique. However, it was De Bruyne that displayed more in this one. He gets the nod of 2 judges, the other giving them a draw.

With that win, De Bruyne moves back in the top 100 as he looks to go back to GAMMA or look for another org to compete in the latter years of his career.

Result: De Bruyne wins via Majority Decision

GAMMA: July Part 2

by James Isaac Abraham

GAMMA#721

Welterweight Title

Pablo Maracon vs Robin Yount

Former UGD star, now your GAMMA welterweight champ Pablo Maracon took challenge for his first title defense against a homegrown talent in Robin Yount. Robin Yount spent most of his career in GAMMA, with 80% of his career fought in a GAMMA affiliated org, including a time he became a lightweight champ way back in 2016. Yount hit rock bottom a year ago with a series of losses but now he’s back after clinching the GAMMA Contenders middleweight belt. He faced the streaking champ Maracon and the champ didn’t go easy on him.

It was a closely fought match and both fighters pushed even if they acquired a cut mid fight. I’d give Maracon credit for his brilliant striking against the challenger. The champ was more accurate with his hits. Yount on the other hand wanted to bring it to the clinch. Yount was more accurate in clinch striking but the champ was far more aggressive, probably earning him more points in that aspect.

The match ended with 3 judges scoring the match to the champ. Great battle and I hope Yount finds his way back to the title scene again for another shot.

Result: Pablo Maracon retains Welterweight Title via Unanimous Decision

Middleweight Bout

Razmig Grigorian vs Matt Quin

Another episode of recent GAMMA superstar acquisition going against a homegrown veteran. The former GAMMA Middleweight champ Matt Quin goes head to head against the former Dare Middleweight champ, a top 5 middleweight of the world.

Grigorian was by far the better striker here and it was evident that Quin was smart enough to try and take the match to the ground given his excellent grappling skills. However, Grigorian’s defense on the ground is tremendous, doing a great job defending against the black belt Quin. As Quin tries to take Grigorian down again, Grigorian just keeps on hammering Quin from distance, punching through his chin bit by bit. Quin got rocked early in the 2nd. He tried his best to hold on but the damage was too much. Grigorian doesn’t waste his time and put’s Quin to sleep with an epic uppercut followed by a series of strikes. The referee had no choice but to stop it.

Result: Razmig Grigorian wins via 2nd round TKO (Strikes)

GAMMA#722

Light Heavyweight Title

Menace Defoe vs Ghazi Okah 3

Familiar faces atop our 205 rankings, Okah and Defoe go head to head for the 3rd time. When these 2 fight, you always get a good show. Both competitive, highly skilled, experienced and have excellent chin. When Okah came to GAMMA, it was Defoe who was in the way for the title. Defoe showed him that it was his turf but GAMMA 713, Okah came back with a statement that he is the better fighter. Okah was so aggressive dominating the match early but the champ didn’t back down. Defoe staged a comeback but it wasn’t enough as Okah earned the scores for the 3 rounds.

In this 3rd encounter, Okah is the champ and Defoe is now the challenger. As expected, it was another closely fought match. Outstanding performance by both fighters. Almost evenly matched in striking and in the clinch. It was a mere battle that anyone could win. However, in the end, it was the judges’ job to call a winner and this time, the belt remains to the champion Okah. A fight of true champions. Will go down as one of the best rivalries in GAMMA. I hope to see a 4th battle though. Let’s see if Defoe finds his way back up or if Okah keeps the throne long enough.

Result: Ghazi Okah retains Light Heavyweight Title via Unanimous Decision

GAMMA#723

Featherweight Title

Gareth Keenan vs Karol Mirowski 4

When you talk about a rivalry, you can never forget about the featherweights of GAMMA, Mirowski and Keenan. This is the fourth time they fought this year. It’s not like they are the only good guys in the division. It’s just that they beat their way into the top of the division and end up battling each other’s hearts out. These guys were born to be champs and seeing a match fought by these two is plain luck for us MMA fans.

Keenan was the reigning champ when his top ranked manager David Brent went on a hiatus and released him. Now, he’s with a new manager and will make his debut under Lance Templeton’s command (also a top ranked manager).

When you see rivals like them going at it, and you are the judge, you’d definitely go crazy trying to score the match. It was so tightly contested all throughout. Both fighters are absolute beasts in striking and they never hold back, specially when they fight each other. Another 200 strikes thrown per fighter match between the two. It was so close until Keenan almost KO’d Mirowski. Mirowski got rocked late in the 5th and he was wobbly. Keenan was this close to a KO win but Mirowski kept evading until he regained control of his body!

I honestly didn’t guess the winner until the judges revealed it. Even the judges had a hard time, with 2 judges favoring the challenger Mirowski.

Result: Mirowski wins Featherweight Title via Split Decision

Super Heavyweight Title

Dustin Kruger vs Bubba Gumption 2

Not long after losing the belt to the new guy Kruger, Bubba is back to challenge his former throne. He destroyed Saric and Heimendahl in a 1st round finish, proving that he wants the belt back right away. Kruger on the other hand has his own feat, defending the belt against contenders Glozman and Pagnozzi.

Now they met again for the second time. This time, Kruger was the champ. Their last match was a closely contested match until a splendid KO came in via Kruger. Just like the first outing, Bubba wins the first round. Great striking from both fighters but Bubba gets the lead.

However, just like the first match, it was Kruger who kept his cool and keeps punching blow by blow. Bubba wants to clinch but it seems Kruger wants to keep it in distance. It was another close match only until Kruger got a clean shot to knock the former champion down. He wants Bubba back up and he does! But here comes another blow by the champ and Bubba goes down again.

As expected of a former champ and future legend Bubba, he won’t get KO’d easily. He once again stood up and quickly regained his senses. Excellent heart and chin right there. It would’ve been an early KO for anyone. But it was the champ Kruger in the end who prevailed. After damaging Bubba with a body kick, he puts him to sleep with a nasty hook in the closing seconds of the round. Great win by the champ Kruger. I expect Bubba to be back in no time.

Result: Dustin Kruger retains Super Heavyweight Title via 2nd round KO

GAMMA: August Part 1 by James Isaac Abraham

GAMMA#724

Middleweight TItle

Saul Goodman vs Dao Sonnen

They have been fighting under GAMMA for quite some time and have established themselves as top ranked middleweights of the world. It’s surprising that it’s the first time these guys go head-to-head. Nonetheless, Sonnen has climbed his way to the top contender spot with an amazing form and he’s finally faced Goodman for the belt.

What would you expect from a bout between two of the top 15 welterweights? Of course, a good fight. The skill level in this one was so high but both fighters didn’t give in. Goodman was his usual self with his efficient striking and composure. Sonnen on the other hand was keeping up with the champ but he mixed it up with his ground game. With his takedowns, he’s managed to get some points and controlled the fight in the ground. Also, he almost got a finish more than a few times.

It was a really close call, not really sure who would’ve won that as it surely was a tough match for both fighters. Sonnen got rounds 1,3,5 for 2 judges, while the other scores a draw. Hard earned win for the newly crowned champ.

Result: Dao Sonnen wins Middleweight Title via Majority Decision

Middleweight Bout

Razmig Grigorian vs Basten Sodergren

Another exciting Middleweight bout was in action last August 4 as two potential contenders for the belt faced each other. Sodergren is a also a top middleweight of the world and he’s fought under GAMMA for quite some time. However, the division is filled with tough competition and he’s only been to the title scene once, in which he fell to Saul Goodman in the 3rd round. On the other hand, the younger rising star Grigorian is trying to conquer the world at the age of 26. A must win for both fighters given that the contender spot for the belt was on the line.

As expected both fighters kept it standing and it was a battle of striking and clinch fighting. Grigorian was more aggressive in the fight and he was landing good shots against the 33 year old Sodergren. Sodergren on the other hand was looking to take the fight in the clinch but it seems that Grigorian was getting better position to strike relentlessly.

With this, Grigorian punches his way to a TKO win in the 3rd round. Tremendous power from Grigorian. This win earns him the right challenge the new champ Sonnen this 8-25 in GAMMA 728. Sodergren on the other hand will need to rack up some wins if he wants to get back to the title scene.

Result: Razmig Grigorian wins via 3rd round TKO (Strikes).

GAMMA#725

Lightweight Title

Katu Partio vs Randy Springs

Katu Partio has been on a roll since arriving in GAMMA. He’s been undefeated since joining and he’s bagged the belt after a thrilling decision win against former champ Jeff Gower. He defended his title for the first time and his first contender was a familiar face in the GAMMA 155 division. It’s none other than the future hall of famer and 3 time GAMMA lightweight champion Randy Springs, who looks to reclaim his title after losing the belt to Gower and failing to reclaim it in Gower’s 2nd title defense.

Partio’s strategy in this fight was to make use of his BJJ black belt advantage against the former champ Springs. Springs on the other hand kept his form with his efficient striking and better wrestling. As expected, Springs was more accurate and took the first round in the scorecards. Despite that, the champ Partio finally got hold of a successful takedown after 3 failed attempts. The champ didn’t waste this opportunity and outmaneuvered Springs with BJJ. Eventually, it was a guillotine waiting to be locked in. Excellent display of BJJ by the champ.

Partio then moves in the top 10 P4P and ranked #2 in world lightweight rankings. Springs has lost his past 3 title matches and will look to rack up some wins to challenge the winner of the upcoming lightweight title match between Partio and Gower. For the mean time, Springs will be facing Sala Barbo for a GAMMA 722 rematch.

Result: Partio retains Lightweight Title via 2nd round Submission (Guillotine)

Super Heavyweight Bout

Hennan Hoyce vs Brandon Simmons 2

We got to see another clash between two of the top 10 SHW giants. The last time around, it was Hoyce who got the better of Simmons, knocking him out in a fashionable comeback KO after being rocked by Simmons. In this second match between the two, we’re expecting another 1st round KO for sure, and both fighters didn’t fail to give a good show. It was a battle of KOs, a strike to the death type of battle.

Just like their first meeting, it was another power-filled clash and bodies were getting knocked down everywhere. The first 2-3 minutes was more of a tactical segment. Trying to gauge each other. As we have seen, Simmons was more cautious this time around and dealing heavy damage with counters while mixing in some accurate strikes with leg kicks and punches.

In the 3rd minute it was a bloodbath. Simmons knocks Hoyce down with a massive hook. That sure dealt a lot of damage and the confident Hoyce seems to lose control of his body. Surprisingly a big head kick came outta nowhere with a quick comeback knockdown from Hoyce. Amazing display of heart and power by Hoyce despite being rocked a few seconds ago. However, not long after it was Simmons again with a big lethal right hand who succeeds with a counter and drops Hoyce to the canvas. The damage was too much and another knockdown followed. However, Hoyce wasn’t done just yet as he was gonna be able to survive the round with a few seconds remaining. As he was wiping off some vaseline Simmons manages to get a cheap shot, and a big one! This caught Hoyce off guard and manages to secure the KO win, knocking Hoyce out cold. A series of unfortunate events for Hoyce.

With this, Hoyce moves down the rankings, losing 5 of his last 8 matches while Simmons earns the rights to challenge the reigning champ Kruger in GAMMA 731.

Result: Brandon Simmons wins via 1st round KO (Punch)

GAMMA: August Part 2

by James Isaac Abraham

GAMMA#726

Super Heavyweight Title

Dustin Kruger vs Thorbjorn Heimendahl

Kruger was on his way to defend his belt for the 4th time in his current run. After making a name defeating the legend Bubba Gumption, he’s been unstoppable since with consecutive KO wins. Heimendahl on the other hand has fought well in his 4 fights prior to the match, winning 3 of them and earning the rights to the title.

As opposed to the initial predictions, we could’ve said that this was Kruger’s match from the get-go. It was different though as Heimendahl proved to be a worthy contender. Trading blows and going on the same pace with the champ. Heimendahl won the first round comfortably but Kruger retaliated in the second round. However, the continuous strain caused by the damage of Kruger’s hits were to much to sustain that the challenger fell in the 3rd round with consecutive brutal knockouts.

Great match, but it was the champ that proved to be a monster. This makes it four successful title defenses for Kruger.

Result: Dustin Kruger retains Super Heavyweight Title (4th defense) via 3rd round KO(Punch)

GAMMA#727

Featherweight Title Match

Karol Mirowski vs Felipe Feltre

As a well-known top 5 featherweight, Karol Mirowski has solidified his claim to the GAMMA 145 lbs division. He’s defeated big names in the league and has suppressed different rivals such as Gareth Keenan and Kira Miyata. This time, he faced an opponent who he faced long ago, the challenger Felipe Feltre. They last met in GAMMA#702, where Mirowski just recently lost his title to his rival Keenan. Mirowski succeeded with a 2nd round TKO victory.

This time, they faced as opponents and the title was on the line. As expected, it was no easy match for both fighters. Feltre’s strategy was more well rounded. He’s been circling around the champ and he’s getting a lot of points off of him, securing the first 2 rounds comfortably. Excellent use of variations with leg kicks and punches. However, the champ Mirowski went on with the same goal and strategy as their first meeting, trying to look for a TKO finish.

In the 3rd round came a brutal knockdown that just caused Feltre to lose control. I would say it was the plan all along and Feltre was not able to hold on. Tremendous TKO finish by the champion Mirowski.

Result: Karol Mirowski retains Featherweight Title via TKO (Strikes)

GAMMA#728

Light Heavyweight Title

Ghazi Okah vs Donsone DeNeville

After the era of the legendary Menace Defoe, it was time for Ghazi Okah to make a name for himself. Defeating the legend twice makes him another all time great in the making. He’s faced with a new challenger in Donsone DeNeville who’s been racking up wins, winning 5 of his 6 matches prior to the match.

The champ was the clear aggressor in this one, making a statement that he is the champ and had the goal of applying pressure to the challenger and controlling the match. Okah was throwing a lot of punches and landing a great percentage of them while DeNeville was struggling to connect punches. I wouldn’t say it was one sided but with the form Okah has been showing, he is en route to another victory sooner or later.

The first round was a close call but those 19 head strikes mixed with different low kicks may have dealt a lot of damage already by the 2nd round. It was eventually over in the middle of the 2nd round where he landed a brutal straight to knock the challenger out cold. Outstanding power by the champ, as he is only the 2nd fighter to KO DeNeville in his whole career.

Result: Ghazi Okah retains Light Heavyweight Title (3rd defense) via KO (Punch)

Middleweight Title

Dao Sonnen vs Razmig Grigorian

The man who defeated Saul Goodman, Dao Sonnen is on his way to make a name in GAMMA. He’s been here for a long time but it was only until then that he pushed himself to the top of the fight scene. As a champion of different organizations, and going through the struggle of climbing the org through the GAMMA: Contenders, Sonnen is a success story.

This time, he faced a young rising star with a tremendous 17 fight win streak. When it seemed like Grigorian was like a fighter who can’t be defeated, Sonnen was not fazed by the challenge. He’s used his experience and did what he does best, a well rounded strategy with a good use of his ground skills. If it was only striking, Grigorian would have won the match with his KO power, but Sonnen was smart to focus on his strengths also.

With 7 successful takedown attempts, Grigorian lost control of the match, going down the mat at least once in each round. The champ Sonnen was not able to secure the finish but it was basically a great display of skill and technique. He outplayed the challenger this time. Grigorian is still young and he can still get another shot sometime around, given that he is indeed a great fighter. Let’s see how this one will go about.

Result: Dao Sonnen retains Middleweight Title (1st Defense) via Unanimous Decision

GAMMA: September part 1

by James Isaac Abraham

GAMMA#729

Featherweight Title

Karol Mirowski v Selfie Lord

When former UGD featherweight champ Lord arrived in GAMMA, he was out of the championship scene, failing to regain his throne in UGD after 3 attempts and his GAMMA debut was a loss to Tony Ramos. Just when everyone was about to consider him as a mid-ranked fighter, he has emerged and is now a bulldozing his way atop the top 10 rankings. This was Lord’s first title match since Nov. 2017 and he’s earned it with 3 straight wins prior to the title match. He faced who was back then reigning champ and future hall of famer Karol Mirowski.

The match was splendid! The first round was absolutely a close one, where Mirowski got a slight edge in. The succeeding rounds were so close I didn’t really know who would win until the judges revealed their scores. Both fighters had almost the same gameplan and it have proved that they both can give us a good match. Striking was almost on par but there had to be a winner this time, and it was Lord who got the goddess of victory’s blessing.

Result: Selfie Lord wins featherweight title via Unanimous Decision

Lightweight Title

Jeff Gower v Katu Partio

Rumors have said that former GAMMA LW champ Gower is about to retire sooner or later. That is some real sad news but that doesn’t mean he’s taking a step down. In fact he’s been on fire winning 6 out of 7 matches prior to losing the belt to the reigning champ Partio. Partio on the other hand continues his push to the top 10 ladder and racking up wins against any contender. This time, they faced again for the second time around, Gower’s shot at redemption with the split decision loss, or Partio’s way of making a statement that he is the real winner.

Last time around, it was evident how great their defense was. It was hard for both fighters to get a clear shot, and it was really obvious to end in a decision. Two judges had the same opinion to choose Partio but the other judge voted a close call in favor of Gower. The same case happened in this match. Both were so evenly matched, but they were both a bit more accurate. Partio was more aggressive and varied his strikes more. Less time was also spent in the clinch this time.

For 5 rounds, both fighters went on and on, which made it very difficult to judge. In the end, it really was a tough call for everyone and the judges had different opinions. Despite Partio landing more strikes overall, match ended in a draw if we look at the scorecards.

Result: Katu Partio retains lightweight title, Draw

GAMMA#730

Welterweight Superfight

Pablo Maracon (GAMMA) v Pekka Pera (OFC)

We got ourselves a welterweight superfight in Pera v Maracon. Pera representing OFC has visited us to challenge our champion. Maracon was also a former UGD fighter and was bound to be in the title scene. His form continued on upon transferring to GAMMA and he’s finally sit in the top of the division, alongside his teammate Lao Shin. Pera on the other hand has also been on fire, being undefeated in OFC for quite some time. This was a match to boost into the top 10, and was a must win for both champions.

Both fighters are very well rounded in the striking game. Pera’s gameplan was to vary his striking and capitalize on his wrestling skills. He was looking into more TDs and clinches but Maracon was prepared for it as a fellow elite wrestler. Maracon on the other hand was more aggressive in striking and he had splendid ground defense, regaining control immediately after Pera succeeds with the takedowns. In this match, Maracon’s control of the flow was crucial in securing his win in this one. This puts Maracon in the top 10, winning via unanimous decision. Sources say that Maracon plans to move to 185 and let his teammate Shin take over the division. Some interesting things going on in the division.

Result: Pablo Maracon wins via Unanimous Decision

Super Heavyweight bout

FannyPack SissyPants vs Bubba Gumption

GAMMA: Contenders rising star SissyPants blasted his way into the rankings with his Contenders run. At the age of 32, he’s been making a statement and has arrived in GAMMA with an immediate right to challenge the former champ and future HoF Bubba.

Surprisingly, FannyPack had the intuition that he has a superior clinch game. Turns out, he was right. He is the superior clinch fighter. Right off the bat it was his gameplan and he pulled through with it. He destroyed Bubba in the clinch despite Bubba’s wrestling experience. SissyPants was dealing too much damage, causing Bubba to lose his form and getting finished.

Result: FannyPack SissyPants wins via 1st round TKO (Punches)

GAMMA#731

Super Heavyweight Title

Dustin Kruger vs Brandon Simmons

On top of the super heavyweight rankings lies the GAMMA champion Dustin Kruger. Prior to the match, Kruger has had 4 successful defenses and is en route to make a long run at the title after defeating GAMMA legend Bubba Gumption in GAMMA 710. The challenger Simmons on the other hand racked up wins upon acquisition by his new manager Balls Manager, going 3-1 prior to the match and earning the rights to the title match.

Kruger was expected to secure another KO in this match. However, Simmons was a worthy challenger and put on a well fought match, going back and forth for 5 rounds despite having a cut from the first round. Felix Legions vs Gareth Keenan

Gareth Keenan was recently acquired by manager Lance Templeton, thus keeping his competitive form and technique in check. He faces former Syn fighter Felix Legions who look to make a name in GAMMA since his arrival in August.

On a surface level perspective, Keenan has advantage in striking while Legions has the better ground game. It was evident in the match, as Keenan was more accurate and effective in striking. Legions successfully took down Keenan twice in the span of 3 rounds. In the ground, Keenan showed great ground defense and took the scorecards all 3 rounds. Dominant win by Gareth Keenan.

Result: Gareth Keenan wins via Unanimous Decision
