Any chance you can post the brackets for your 320K 265+ tournament?

It's really long in between fights and not a lot of hype/updates. Also I think you've started moving losing fighters to the 310k division?

I almost sacked my guy the other day lol , almost forgot he was in the middle of a tourney.

Are you still keeping your 265+ division for 320k fighters as originally proposed? It's getting pretty empty from the looks of it.

Thank you.

https://challonge.com/46eg0alc - brackets

I think Chuck sent out a mailer not too long ago stating that he will finish out the tournament(and pay the winner 500k as promised), but will then offer the 265+ division fighters contracts into their respective divisions(said he has other plans for the 265+ division).

New Champions

Week Ending Jan 6th 2018

Congratulations to Lito Alcala on his hard fought victory over Wamberto Boaz. It was a back and forward affair that, in the end, needed the judges wisdom to declare the winner after 5 gruelling rounds. Both fighters performed excellently which made it all the more difficult to decide the victor. All three judges agreed however that Alcala had taken three of the five rounds with perhaps Alcala's work in the clinch being the deciding factor but by the razor thinnest amount.

Alcala (14-4) is now likely to face Dohn Jodson (14-1) who became the number one contender after a dominant performance over the weekend

The vacant Lightweight belt was up for grabs also over the weekend with former IFC rivals Abdel Mumu and Jax Thomas going head to head in their rubber match. Thomas defeated Mumu back in June of 2018 for the IFC title and had remained undefeated for a further six fights before dropping the title back to Mumu in December. With Empire's acquisition of the IFC and without a 155 division Mumu and Thomas were the clear choices to be given first crack at the vacant title.

On this occasion it was Mumu who was the better man and leaving no doubt in anybodies mind, improved upon his previous victory over Thomas with a first round KO a little after the first minute.

Mumu becomes the first Empire champion of this weight class since July of last year and potential candidates for his first challenge include former Syfi 155lbs champion Verneri Ahma (10-0, former IFC title challenger Nando Vasquez (10-3) or former Beatdown lightweight champion Kongchai Phetboonme (13-3-2)

EMPIRE 320k Open Weight Tournament

(Formerly The Global Colloseum 320k Open Weight Tournament)

Even though it wasn’t my baby, I think this 320k open weight tournament deserves to be covered as it approaches this semi-final stage. Why this particular tournament you might ask? Well, mainly because the majority of it’s participants were already established stars of all different weight classes in the now defunct New Jersey MMA org and to be able to bring them together to compete in a knockout tournament is a rare thing indeed in the Tycoon universe.

Four fighters remain from the initial thirty-two that started so lets take a look at who is left and the semi-final match ups due to take place 19th January 2018

http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/15147010893674.jpg VS http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/15130033921085.gif

Rob “BBC” Kardashian (14-4, 209lbs) vs. Ananada “AB” Bunyasarn (9-2, 190lbs)

Our first fighter is Rob “BBC” Kardashian, a natural light-heavyweight who has become known for some disgustingly heavy hands. Hailing from Los Angeles, USA, Kardashian didn’t initially take the MMA world by storm and entered the cage as an unrefined scrappy brawler. Ignorant and uncaring about the intricacies of the jui-jitsu side of things, Kardashian found himself in flailing in deep water and was in the end finished with a kneebar submission shortly after two minutes of the first round. Obviously fuelled by this embarrassing loss to one of those “pyjama wearing guys”, Kardashian was eager to get back into the cage where, this time, he would just “do his thing” and not be so tentative to let it all go. This new attitude served him well and Kardashian managed to win his next two in devastating fashion. Two first round KO’s both in under a minute. From here Kardashian was picked up by NJMMA where he continued this trend all the way to a title shot. It took Kardashian just five seconds to claim the NJMMA light-heavyweight belt and become a champion for the first time. As the opponents became more skilled, so did fights become tougher but always Kardashian was able to land that single knockout blow to seal the win. Until his third title defence attempt that is where Kardashian met Frank “Brickie” Curtis and suffered the first KO loss of his career. Kardashian came back with a win, only to lose the next. Then, a big win over Duncan Ferguson was enough to put him back into title contention and at NJMMA 61, Kardashian became a two-time champion with a stunning spinning back fist KO over Stephan Letter. The moment was fleeting however as he once again found himself at the mercy of a ground specialist and dropped the title in his first title defence. He left the org with a very impressive 12-4 record.

His opponent and our second remaining fighter is Thailand’s Ananada “AB” Bunyasarn who fights usually as a very undersized middleweight. Ananada is probably the least experienced fighter of the four in terms of MMA as he started young in Muay Thai before taking more to boxing in his native Bangkok. In his first ever fight in the cage, AB showcased his superior level boxing to win an first round KO and made an immediate impression on the NJMMA scouts securing a professional contract with the outfit. He found the step up somewhat difficult and just managed to squeak out a decision victory in his org debut. From here, AB suffered some up and down form as he began to adapt to his new sport and went 1-2 in his next three fights. Losing by both TKO and submission, Bunyasarn really was getting experience at all ends of MMA. Possibly due to those losses, Bunyasarn seemingly adapted his offence to a more reserved, technical striking style and managed to rack up three decision wins over tough opponents. Ananada Bunyasarn finished his time in NJMMA with a career record of 6-2 and many believe that he was only just beginning to get started and after his performance so far in this tournament, it would be difficult to disagree.

Moving into the tournament, Kardashian has made things look easy to get to this point. He made relativity short work of his opening round opponent Damien Dawson to win by KO late in the first round and then a stroke of fortune to receive a bye in the second round. In the quarter final he faced a a tough More IsMore but was surprisingly able to dominate him over three rounds.

Bunyasarn on the other hand has had to work hard for his place in the semi-final though has looked no less impressive in getting there. A first round KO win over lightweight Jargon Gin in the opening round followed by arguably one of the most spectacular victories of the tournament so far when he KO’d former Super-Heavyweight and Heavyweight champion Like Boss a minute into round three. In his quarter final bout he came up against Damien The Omen and once again was able to finish his opponent with his superior striking skills and get the victory late in the second round.

The match up between these two fighters should be especially fiery due to the intense rivalry between management teams. Both have had much success in the tycoon world with Alex K having reached the number one spot in his time and Ibrahim Camara being voted best new manager 2017. Camara still chases that coveted top spot but not many would doubt he has the ability to get there at some point in the future.

On paper this fight has all the markings of a stand up war with Kardashian's heavy hitting style going head to head with Bunysarn's more methodical Thai approach. Kardashian will be looking to take Bunyasarn's head clean off and likely wanting to do it soon as possible as the longer the fight goes on, the more it will favour AB. Bunyasarn has an excellent history of impressing the judges and Kardashian will not want to take the risk of leaving it in their hands. It must be noted however that, though Kardashian is truly the bigger, heavier hitting fighter going into this one, Bunyasarns striking power cannot be overlooked either especially considering his results in the tournament so far. It is as if he has finally figured out how to utilise his pure boxing skills into the MMA cage and the results have been explosive. Both fighters have shown excellent clinch skills so in their careers and neither are likely to feel uncomfortable in that area. Bunyasarn may feel that he can match Kardashian there but he will be giving up almost twenty pounds in weight and will also have to be very of Kardashians marginally better wrestling and Muay Thai skills.

An interesting, albeit unlikely, scenario is that AB takes advantage of his more proficient ground skills in order to both minimise his chances of getting caught on the feet and open up more avenues for victory. Robs speciality is definitely not on the ground and this is reflected in the three submission losses out of his four total. This could be a potential Achilles heel for him and one that AB might seek to exploit however this isn’t something we have ever seen from the Thai fighter so really there is no real reason to speculate that it would happen here.

This fight is going to mean a great deal to both fighters and not only because winning would bring them one step closer to glory. The rivalry of these two camps is well known and neither will want to fall to the other. Bragging rights will be up for grabs and likely to carry over for a long time to come.

Prediction: Bunyasarn by Decision. Bunyasarn has seemingly found his rhythm in this tournament and Kardashian’s style could be tailor made for AB here. If Kardashian can catch him there is little doubt he will do damage and could end the fight but Bunyasarn will be ready and looking to counter and land the shots that matter. This writer doubts that Bunyasarn has the power to finish Kardashian outright but instead impress the judges and gain victory by their hand

John “The Hooligan” Braddock (17-2, 285lbs) vs. David Paddington (12-5, 153lbs)

Moving into our second semi-final match up we have heavyweight John “The Hooligan” Braddock taking on natural featherweight David Paddington.

John Braddock entered the MMA world a little later than most but he has had tremendous success right from the get go. A three time champion of multiple orgs, his career began in Holland in the now closed down Dutch Series of Fighting org in Amsterdam. There he terrorised the heavyweight ranks until it’s demise and captured the 265lbs title along the way. Braddock left Amsterdam with a record of 6-0 and with all but one of those wins coming by way of first round knock out. Now with some serious hype behind him, Braddock was a hot free agent and decided to sign with the Hilo based Elite Pride & Glory show. His record mandated an immediate title shot against their undefeated champion Caul Rogba and once again Braddock showcased his sledgehammer hands, bludgeoning Rogba in the clinch and earned yet another KO victory late in round one. Unfortunately for Braddock, the league folded before he had a chance to defend his new title and once again Braddock found himself without a home but in high demand. He journeyed to New York where Braddock signed with NJMMA and yet again was thrust into an immediate title match. There was little surprise when Braddock snatched his third title belt and even less in the manner in which he did so. Another KO, another first round victory, Braddock would go on to successfully defend his belt twice more in the org before his undefeated streak came to an end in a shock submission loss to More IsMore at NJMMA XS4. Thirteen fights undefeated with all but one coming by first round KO and the other, no doubt disappointingly to Braddock, needed a little extra at thirty seconds of round two. Braddock came back strong winning his next but the aura of invincibility that had surrounded him before had been lost and he dropped a decision win to Like Boss in his last fight for the NJMMA org. Some wondered aloud if time hadn’t caught up with The Hooligan but an opportunity to prove them wrong in a 32 man tournament needed little thought.

Braddock has looked almost entirely back to his battering best so far having won every fight by KO to get to this semi-final point. A big win over former GMO and IHOF light heavyweight Duncan Ferguson in the opening round to get things going followed by a victory over heavyweight Jakob Trabik in the second round. Like a bolder rolling down a cliff, Braddock seems to have gain more momentum with each round and in his quater-final match against heavyweight Zeta Knox, Braddock looked phenomenal with another two minute, first round KO.

Facing off against him in very much a David versus Goliath situation is natural featherweight David Paddington. Paddington got his start in MMA in the QFC system and from there has developed quite a reputation as a dangerous submission savvy grappler. He picked up his first submission win during his cage debut and immediately made an impression on the NJMMA scouts. Signing him up for their very first show, Paddington made the long journey to New Jersey and was victorious yet again with his second submission victory. A third submission victory moved Paddington to 3-0 overall and really pushed him into the clear contender spot for the vacant featherweight title belt. Not one to waste an opportunity, once again Paddington was victorious and once again added another notch to his submission belt. Paddington made two decisive title defences and had carved out quite a big name for himself in the fledgling org. Now 6-0 with all wins by submission, Paddington was finally defeated by submission of all things against Damen Mayer at NJMMA March Madness. His form from here never really recovered and Paddington, while always tough and resilient, began to drop more losses than he had wins and ended his time at NJMMA with a record of 9-5.

No one really expected much from David Paddington when he signed up for the 32 man tournament, especially as one of the lighter fighters involved. A hard fought decision victory over Beta Knox, a fighter whom he had defeated just previously did little to impress the critics though the next fight did peak their interest as he out grappled light-heavyweight fighter Marco Bailey in Round 2 of the competition. What really got tongues wagging in the mma journalist circles was his tremendous submission victory over undefeated heavyweight Benjamin Kueller in the quarter final. Paddington needed not only to overcome the obstacle that a one-hundred pound weight difference would present but also an extremely close call late in the second round in which things looked almost as if the referee would step in to save him. Now, no longer an afterthought to the other fighters in the tournament, David Paddington could well be the dark horse long shot to take it all.

Going into the fight there aren’t many that would disagree that Paddington is the more skilled of the two. The slightest of edges in the boxing and wrestling to begin with and even more so in the Muay Thai, it is his submission ability that far exceeds that of Braddocks and would likely be the easiest route to victory over the much bigger man. Of course, skills only could for so much and while they certainly do account for a lot, sometimes it is the intangibles that you can’t see that really swing advantage the other way. Braddock comes from an exceptional well versed camp who are unlikely to be wasting their time on anyone who doesn’t have something at least and Braddock has certainly shown himself to be a force of destruction with his seventeen KO’s in seventeen wins. Braddock will not need many opportunities to stop this fight cold and Paddington will need to avoid engaging on the feet at all cost. Paddington has just shown that he can deal with the bigger boys of the tournament and that he can take a punch, this is also somewhat reflected in the fact that he has yet to be knocked out but then Braddock is far bigger and far meaner than anyone he yet faced and very likely the hardest hitting opponent to have ever stood across from him. Braddock is not unbeatable however and has been submitted before. An obviously weakness in his arsenal and one Paddington must attack to have any chance of making it further than he already has

Prediction: Braddock by KO. Paddington has done much to restore his former hype and popularity in the MMA world with his performance in this tournament but Braddock is surely too much for him to handle?

Light-Heavyweight Title

Congrats to Pekka "Punchmaster General" Toivonen who successfully made the second defence of his light-heavyweight title belt. Toivonen, who won the belt from Mark Steve back in October of last year, had to step it up a gear after dropping the first round to challenger Mikhail Orlov and was able to push on and secure the finish early in round 3 by way of TKO. Orlov, who despite ranking highly in the P4P lists, had surprisingly little hype behind him and some suggested that Toivonen had little to gain by beating him. Toivonen's camp accepted the challenge without complaint however and dutifully went about their business and with this victory can hopefully start to put the disappointment of their catch-weight Super Fight decision loss against Chris Steve behind them.

A tough result for Orlov of which marks his first loss after nine straigh victories, a run that saw him capture the now defunct Gamma Proving Grounds light-heavyweight belt.

Pekka "Punchmaster General" Toivonen

"Honestly, Pekka did not even realize he was fighting Russian scrub for better part of 10 minutes. Pekka thought he was putting unruly garden hose back in box. Luckily Pekka realized he was fighting main event in front of 6000 people and put Orlov in casket Pekka made himself."

Heavyweight Title

(EMP Tower vs. S.Heavyweight 3, 18th January 2019)

Iain "The CN" Tower vs. Super "Dominator" Heavyweight

This was the third meeting between these two stars of the heavyweight division with both coming in with a win each. This would however be the first time of they met with Tower under new management. The last of course was S.Heavyweight’s shock win over Tower that was actually nominated for the 2018 upset of the year.

Once again many would look at the fight as something of a lopsided one with only those that had followed S.Heavyweight’s dominating run of the IFC heavyweight ranks giving any real credence to his chances in the fight.

The first round didn’t set much of a pace with both fighters trading heavy shots from mainly inside the clinch and Tower opening up a small cut on the challengers face early on. Most thought S.Heavyweight had done enough to win the round and the fight continued on much in the same vein during the second. Tower, now focused on the cut, proceeded to target the area and mid way through the round managed to drop S.Heavyweight to the canvas opening the wound even more and had an opportunity to finish with a leg lock that was defended until the round clock ran out.

Despite the damage to his face, most now had S.Heavyweight up two rounds to nil and were starting to believe that maybe, just maybe, he could pull it off and shock the world once more.

Unfortunately for them, it wasn’t to be. A stiff left had thirty seconds into round three caused the cut to open to horrific standards and referee had no choice but to call the doctor in who in turn had little option but to call the fight there and then.

Another tough test for Tower who now has two successful title defences behind him and will now face another fighter from the past, Big Murha who will likely not have been too impressed with the performance on display there.

Super Heavyweight remains one of the most popular fighters in the MMA world and was understandably eager for a rematch though he will likely have to work his way back into contention against other ranked competition.

Welterweight Title

(EMP Steve vs. Papadopoulos, 20th January 2019)

Christ "The Revenant" Steve vs. Avraam Papadopoulos

What can be said about top welterweight star Chris “The Revenant” Steve. Arriving at the org we now know as Empire back in August of 2018 as a three time champion of three different orgs, Steve has remained undefeated for an unprecedented eighteen fights and you would actually have to go back to August of 2017 to find his last loss.

With that in mind, challenger Avraam Papadopoulos wasn’t considered the favourite going into this one, but he was considered a deserving challenger who had toiled in the Empire welterweight division for some time and had on more than one occasion battled his way to the front of the line.

This fight was also actually a rematch of their first meeting also for the title back in November of last year. In that one Papadopoulos took the first round only to fall to the punishing clinch game of Steve in the second. Many wondered how much had changed in the short time b Could he improve on that performance and perhaps even shock the world this time round?

Not on this occasion. Steve was dominate throughout the first two rounds which were mainly spent in the clinch. Papadopoulos displayed some serious grit to keep up with him but going into round three you got the impression that it would be hard to keep it up for five whole rounds.

Around a minute in, a solid hook from Steve opened up a cut and moments later dropped Papadopoulos to the canvas. Papadopoulos was up instantly but on wobbly legs. Steve chased him down and a monster overhand right finished the fight at 1:57 of the third round and gave him his third successful title defence in the Empire 170lbs division.

So what’s next for Chris Steve? Already victorious in a catch-weight super fight against 205lbs star Pekka Toivonen, the next number one contender will be determined from the Corban Storm vs. Polliisi Partio showdown due to take place on the 26th January and neither have yet met Steve in the cage so far in their careers.

For Avraam Papadopoulos it is back to the drawing board for now though few doubt it will take him long to once again climb to the top of the welterweight ranks.

Empire Middleweight Title Fight

(EMP Gagnon vs Graves, 26th January 2019)

“Cool Hand” Luc Gagnon vs. “Dr. Kneevil” Nick Graves

Title challenger Nick Graves put up a great fight against newly crowned Middleweight champion Luc Gagnon though in the end fell to the champions powerful counter striking.

Gagnon took the first round comfortably and almost managed to finish the fight early after dropping Graves in the first minute. Graves was able to make it out of the first round and from there began to find his range, peppering Gagnon with stinging shots from the outside to win rounds two and three. If Gagnon ever wondered whether the fight was beginning to slip away from him, he certainly didn’t show it and instead remained calm and assured that his counter heavy game plan was the way to go and around a minute and a half into round four, reaped the rewards after slipping a sloppy right hand from Graves and countering with a big overhand of his own. With Graves stunned, Gagnon seized his chance and a devastating combo dropped Graves to a knee and left the referee no choice but to step in.

A successful first title defence for Gagnon in his second run as champion in the org means he can now start preparing for the next in line who in this instance looks to be undefeated 17-0 phenom Ispa Murhaa.

A tremendous performance from Nick Graves and his team who should feel no shame in the result at all. The general takeaway from most is that Graves is a potential star of the division who needs just a little more time to catch up.

If only Ispa Murhaa didn't dodge Gagnon in his last fight offer :).
