*T118* - Celtic Christmas

"Lucky" Liam O'Connor James "Sully" McGuiness

The MMA Tycoon world have been given a Christmas present by the Troid EP management team. Two ex-Island Irish legends are due to step into that steel cage for the very last time. Only one will emerge victorious in this epic last fight for both of these warriors. Both fighters captured the hearts of MMA fans across the globe by putting on a show every time they stepped into the cage. One the one hand you have the submission specialist in "Lucky" Liam O'Connor (15-7) and on the other hand you have the KO artist in James "Sully" McGuiness (16-13-1). The classic battle between grappler and boxer is set to go down in this mouth watering fight.

Liam O'Connor comes into this fight off the back of a TKO loss to former Troid EP Middleweight title holder Ilya Mstislav Volkov (13-3). Though the fight didn't go the way he wanted, he surprised a lot of MMA fans by managing to get the fight where he wanted, on to the ground. Unfortunately for Liam O'Connor and his fans, Ilya was more than comfortable to be on the ground and was well aware of Liam's dangerous ground game. Ilya managed to avoid the submissions and counter them with some dangerous ground and pound, opening up a nasty cut on Liam's face. With the blood pouring down Liam's face, the doctor was asked to inspect the cut and deemed it too bad for Liam O'Connor to continue. Liam O'Connor's last chance of winning a title in his career had gone. Post-fight, Liam spoke of the pains he has recently been facing as a result of his 10 year fight career and hinted that his time in MMA was drawing to a close.

James "Sully" McGuiness, perhaps famously known for being owner of Sully's Bar & Grill or the face of the KT revolution, is the fighter who will be standing across the cage from Liam O'Connor. James is coming off the back of a KT fight where he suffered a TKO loss against Welterweight KT sensation Bryant Baez (11-3-1). He was the main event in a card hosted by the #1 KT organisation EFFA. At 28 years of age, James is 7 years younger than Liam O'Connor but despite this has competed in 8 more fights and has the experience of competing not just in MMA but also in KT. He is said to be retiring to focus his attention full time on helping organise events in the KT scene and to run his bar full time.

Both fighters have a strong following and are loved by the Irish MMA fans. Liam O'Connor has a unique style of fighting which he has perfected, his game plan is to get the fight to the clinch, pull guard and then secure the submission, a game plan which has seen him rack up an impressive 12 submissions and he has never been submitted in his 22 fight career. James McGuiness on the other hand has a KO or be KO'd attitude which has seen him win all of his fights bar one by (T)KO. While we're saddened to see the end of the career of two legendary ex-Island fighters, this is one fight to mark down on your calender and I know a lot of people will be looking forward to this Christmas present come Christmas day!

legendary island fighters who never won anything on island?

lol

Liam O'Connor won the VIP! Fights Middleweight title holder during his time on The Island. Both fighters made it to the end of season tournament and only a select few Island fighters are picked for it. I guess why I call them legendary is because both myself and Joe Lang have been actively smack talking with them throughout their careers so they've probably got noticed by more managers but not only that, perhaps more importantly they found some relative success once they left The Island joining organisations which had a range of fighters including 18 year old projects.

Fighters who have fought on The Island and have since left to join Highland Games didn't have the same struggle which Liam O'Connor, James McGuiness and some other ex-Island fighters had. Between the two of them, they've fought in respectable organisations including: Troid EP, UNFC, Legacy! and EFFA. For that reason, I consider them to be legendary ex-Island fighters. They're not the only ones to do that, I remember KRad's Pan Goatboy, who Liam O'Connor fought twice during his stay on The Island, he went on to find some success off The Island mainly with Cornell Cage Fighting.

Marky has a roster of legendarily unsuccessful fighters that could have won the Olympics.

But they didn't get selected funnily enough.

Hmmmm, it seems that noone is giving poor ol' Sully a chance in this fight.

Well.... Like me or hate me, i am under no illusion that i had a successful career. I stepped into the ring or cage against anyone who wanted to fight me and i won about as much as i lost. But boy was it fun!!!

In the time since i left The Island i have had a ball. I opened my own bar where fighters from all around the world have frequented. I became the official spokesperson for Team Corporation at ITFL 4 and i was the face of the Junior Grand Master of KT tournament which began the KT Revolution.

(Psst, signups are still available for The Junior Grand Master of KT II ;) )

But alas, all good things come to an end and i couldn't have picked a better opponent to end my fighting career than fellow ex-Island Irishman Liam.

After this fight i will be concentrating on running my bar Sully's Bar & Grill and yes, even those guys who i have never heard of who are making fun of me are welcome to come in and have a beer. :drunk:

Ahhh to hell with it, its gonna be Christmas!! Free drinks all night at the afterparty!!!!!

So come celebrate the end of my career. I was never the best fighter, but i always fought who was put in front of me and my record shows that i will never be a champ so it is time to hang up my gloves. And what a way to go out!

Where will you be the night Sully retired???

"You know I have a lot of respect for James and what he's done and I felt that this fight would be the perfect way for me to go out. Two big personalities from the MMA Tycoon going head to head. Both of us being ex-Island fighters. It's going to be weird fighting another guy who had fought on The Island and if you look at the list of guys I've fought, my last 8 fights have been guys who never experienced what it was like being on that Island.

People can say all they want about me and Sully, if they don't think we're legends, who cares! I earned the respect of MMA fans throughout the world not just for my performance on The Island but also off The Island. I think I'm the only ex-Island fighter to go on to challenge for a title in an org outside of The Island, well apart from Highland Games which is the home of ex-Island fighters.

I guess with only a couple of days left until this fight, it's really hit me now... I'm retiring. What the fuck am I going to do when I retire? Sully has a bar and I haven't really thought about what I'm going to do. I guess I'll have to sit down after this fight is over and think about what I want to do next. Well maybe not immediately after the fight as I might have a pretty bad headache for a couple of days.

I really hope this last fight is one which will be remembered by MMA Tycoon fans. "Remember those two ex-Island Irish boyos who had that deadly retirement fight, aye wasn't that just lethal?" Hearing people say something like that would be pretty damn good. I might be retiring from professional MMA but hopefully the memories of my fights will live on.

I'm looking forward to stepping into that Troid EP cage one final time. VIP! Fights might have been known as my Island home and Troid EP will definitely be known as my home post The Island. It's been one hell of a ride during my time here at Troid EP, I never dreamed in a million years that I would have rose up the rankings like I did and challenge for a title fight. It was an amazing experience and I'm forever grateful for having been given the opportunity.

Grant & Ryan, get that Of The Night prize money ready. This last fight is either going to end up with me being KO'd and me winning Fight of the Night or me ripping off Sullys arm or leg and exchanging it for the Submission of the Night bonus. "

Ho! Ho! Ho!

Not long to go until i step into the cage one last time!

I am not sure how i feel about this situation. My Bar & Grill has been neglected lately and business hasn't been good and my fight record shows that i should have hung up the gloves a LOOOONG time ago.

But to celebrate this Festive season, i will be holding the bash to end all bashes at Sully's after the fight. So bring your drinking hats!

Oh, and have a safe and Happy Christmas everyone!!!

Well, what can i say? Lucky Liam, you are one tough summbitch and the bad thing about a winning a fight like this is it makes me think that i can still hang with you young fellas in the cage or ring!!!

But alas, this ol' noggin has taken enough punishment and it's time i focused on the future while i can still stand up and hold a beer in me hand!

Cheers to you Liam for stepping into the cage with me, and thanks to Troid for hosting this fight!

Everyone down to Sully's for a celebration and a drink!!! :drunk:
