Group C

Weekly Round Up – Opening Round 1.3

(2nd Feb 2019)

Amadeo Camara v Legend Broly

(Camara def. Broly by TKO, 03:55 Rd 1)

Alliance mates Amadeo Camara and Legend Broly went head to head in Group C and on this occasion it was grappler Camara who was able to get the victory and his first of the tournament. Broly was looking to move into the clinch but Camara avoided all attempts and instead took the fight to the floor where he was able to overwhelm Broly with strikes on the ground.

With the win Amadeo Camara moves up a spot into sixth but not quite a qualifying spot as yet as time separates him from Abdufatto Zamanov. This showdown will occur next however and both fighters will definitely want to pick up the win though things look brighter for Camara who will be over a small injury sustained in this fight whilst his opponent is still likely to be feeling the effects.

Legend Broly drops down into the seventh spot and with only a forfeit win giving him points at the moment, he technically is still searching for his first win of the tournament. He faces bottom placed JT Rolli in the next round who once again will be suffering from a fairly significant injury. A big chance for Broly to pick up that elusive win and perhaps even chase one of the lower qualifying spots

Abdufatto Zamanov v Kyle Cruz

(Cruz def. Zamanov by TKO, 01:57 Rd 1)

A classic grappler versus striker battle between seeded fighters Abdufatto Zamanov and Kyle Cruz ended fairly definitively with Cruz taking Zamanov down and battering him within two minutes. Zamanov surprised many with an attempted submission from his back but it wasn’t enough to stop himself falling to his second loss in a row.

Kyle Cruz has done well to bounce back from a scandal involving weighted underwear at the tournaments start that saw him ineligible to accrue points until his weight gain procedure kicked in. Now technically undefeated with only a forfeit loss against his name, Cruz has moved into a comfortable fourth spot and is now four points clear of his closest group C rival. An exciting match up against Bishop Heahmund comes next that should really test the wrestlers defensive grappling on the ground.

Disaster for Abdufatto Zamanov who, as well as dropping two in a row now, will now face seeded fighter Amadeo Camara in the next round of fights with an injury still needing a couple more days to heal. Zamanov currently occupies a qualifying spot but a loss in his next fight would likely drop him outside of that

Bishop Heahmund v Amanda Nunes

(Nunes def. Heahmund by KO, 00:16 Rd 1)

A top of the group table clash between undefeated Bishop Heahmund and Amanda Nunes was settled early in week three and on this occasion it was Nunes who made a statement of intent after a brutal sixteen second first round KO. Heahmund, clearly aware of the power in Nunes’ punches, desperately attempted to get the fight to the floor but Nunes took full advantage of the sloppy attempts and punished with counter left that put Heahmund out.

With the win, Nunes goes clear at the top of the Group C table and looks almost certain to appear in the next round of the tournament. It will face Abdufatto Zamanov next and could be inline to increase it’s lead at the top considering Zamanov will be sporting a serious injury.

A disappointing result for Heahmund no doubt, he manages to maintain his second place spot though with the point loss is now tied with Alf Konrad and separated by time. He now faces a massive test against seeded fighter Kyle Cruz that will no doubt hold a lot of interest to those watching the tournament.

Alf Konrad v JT Rolli

(Konrad def. Rolli by TKO, 03:30 Rd 1)

Alf Konrad picked up his second KO win in a row and was able to heap more misery on struggling JT Rolli who, though put on a better performance this time around, still finds himself looking for his first win. The fight took place mainly in the clinch with Rolli looking to perhaps end the fight with a cut stoppage from his relentless elbow strikes. Konrad was able to defend well though and landed some heavy shots in return. It was a shoulder strike of all things that wobbled Rolli and from there Konrad was able to drop him with an uppercut twice in quick succession, the second finishing the fight for good.

Konrad keeps his third place spot but takes a step closer to catching second place Bishop Heahmund with only time separating them. He now has an opportunity to take out first place Amanda Nunes next week in what should be a truly exciting show down.

Group D

Weekly Round Up – Opening Round 1.3

(2nd Feb 2019)

Heitor Machado v Alan Odrobny

(Odrobny def. Machado by TKO, 02:37 Rd 1)

Somewhat of a shock result in this one as Group D leader Heitor Machado slipped up against brawler Alan Odobny and found himself on the receiving end of a first round TKO loss and an end to his two fight winning streak. It was clear that BJJ specialist Machado would want to get the fight to the ground where he has found success so far and it wasn’t through lack of trying that lead him to defeat. On this occasion Odorbny was simply prepared for such tactics and able to dominate in the clinch landing unanswered shots to the head and body

Odrobny now moves to 2-1 and up into a qualifying spot, somewhere he wasn’t predicted to finish. If he can pick up another few big results like today then there is no reason that he cannot continue to prove the odds-makers wrong. He next faces a tough match up against fourth place Prince Thick though it is rumoured that Thick will not be at full capacity going into that one.

Despite the loss, Machado clings to his top spot though is now tied with Marcus St Stone on five points apiece. The result today a stern warning as to what can happen when grapplers are unable to take strikers off of their feet. Machado will next face Marcus St Stone, a fighter who so far seems to be able to do it all with the winner likely to claim the top spot in Group D amongst their spoils.

Marcus St Stone v Roar Dinosuar Jr

(St Stone def. Dinosuar Jr by Sub, 02:43 Rd 2)

Another seeded fighter showdown this time between Marcus St Stone and Roar Dinosaur Jr. Dinosuar Jr came into this one as the slight favourite possible and looked like a solid bet after one round of action. Getting the early take down and managing to keep control from top position, St Stone was able to find a kink in the defences of Dinosuar in round two and ended the fight with a triangle choke from guard.

A big result for St Stone to take out early favourite Dinosuar and one that sees him move up into second place and tied on points with group leader Heitor Macahdo. Separated only by points, St Stone will have a chance to take the lead for himself as he faces BJJ specialist Machado in the next round of fights.

A tough loss to take for Dinosuar Jr who now slumps way down into seventh place and suffers his second loss in a row. Though it is too early to truly panic, the result does put pressure on Dinosuar Jr going into his next bout against Daniel Bradshaw.

Daniel Bradshaw v Bubba Sparxxx

(Bradshaw def. Sparxxx by KO, 02:25 Rd 1)

In a truly remarkable turn of events, Daniel Bradshaw was able to overcome a fairly significant injury and pick up a KO win over struggling Bubba Sparxxx in their week three match up. Sparxxx, who still looks for his first win of the tournament, was fully expected to show no mercy against a hampered Bradshaw but that wasn’t the case as he was beaten to the punch one too many times inside the clinch and finished around halfway in round one.

With the win, Bradshaw not only shows us that fighting with an injury isn’t quite a guaranteed loss, he also takes a step closer to cementing a qualifying spot for himself as he moves into the third spot. On the same points as those in second and first, Bradshaw hangs back by virtue of having less finish wins. He will now have a big opportunity to take out struggling Group D favourite Roar Dinosuar Jr in his next fight

For Bubba Sparxxx, this really was a missed opportunity. Predicted to struggle at the beginning of the tournament, Sparxxx now finds himself firmly at the bottom of the Group D barrel and will likely need to win all of his remaining fights just to have a chance at moving on in the tournament. He next fights Johannes Boe and will have a significant injury going into that meaning that it truly would take a miracle from here.

Johannes Boe v Prince Thick

(Boe def. Thick by KO, 00:34 Rd 1)

If Bubba Sparxxx was unable to pull the trigger on an injured foe, Johannes Boe certainly wasn’t as he bludgeoned Prince Thick on the feet ending the fight in around thirty-four seconds of round one. Landing heavy shots to the head and body, Thick just didn’t have the energy to resist as Boe teed off in front of him

It was a much needed result for Boe who picked up his first win of the tournament and moves within sight of a qualifying spot. He is likely to pick up another maximum point win against injured and struggling Bubba Sparxxx in his next fight.

For Prince Thick, he will no doubt be upset to have suffered his first loss of the tournament esepcially when not entirely down to his own skills. He unfortunately suffers the same fate going into his next fight fight as he takes on a surging Alan Odrobny

Will Carlos Junior's injury have much influence on his next fight? I thought injuries just made you easier to TKO and caused you to lose energy faster? In a grappling exchange, I would think that this is his best match-up to be injured for.

Daniel Bradshaw just won with an injury.

Would need to do more inquiry but I am under the impression that it makes you attempt less moves then you would normally. My advice would be to go ham on whatever you are trying to do.

It is tough as there were no where near as many injuries in my last tournament and it's adding an element of luck that I'm not that keen on seeing. Don't really know what the answer is other than increasing time in between fights but then a tournament like this turns into something that lasts forever

in LoL my guy picked up a 13 day injury in the first fight, and proceeded to have that injury for about 6 more fights before It was able to go away. He pretty much turned into a wuss.

This is something I'm unsure of.

Was that the same injury? Or does fighting wipe that injury but then you roll the dice on getting a new injury afterwards?

I guess its a wait and see thing...you never know.. If he doesn't get in good position to GnP you might be able to sneak in a sub win......I wouldn't mind seeing the 0-3 with injury popping off a win vs the 3-0 guy...I'm sure Dupont would say otherwise.

Dupont looks to be a submission fighter, so I think that will raise Junior's chances a bit. As long as he can defend against submission attempts, he could reverse position and take the victory. I am also unsure of whether injuries are reset or not after a fight. I used to be under the impression that the injury was wiped after the fight, but this tournament has me thinking otherwise. I suppose Junior's fight will help to answer that question as well!

Dupont's build isn't my typical build and he doesn't match up particularly well with pure BJJ guys. I'm very unlucky as well, so I would not be surprised if Carlos wins.

Dupont's is the easiest cookie cutter build to win creation tournaments.

The lack of good hiddens might do you in but in terms of builds you are all set.

Group A

Weekly Round Up – Opening Round 1.4

(9th Feb 2019)

Serj Khak v Harry Tournament

(Tournament def. Khak by TKO, 03:12 Rd 1)

Harry Tournament managed to make it two in a row and continue his good form after a poor start to the first round group stage. His win came at the expense of a struggling Serj Khak who remains at the bottom of group A and now drops into negative points.

With the win, Harry Tournament moves into a qualifying spot for the first time in this round and will no doubt hope to ride his current good form to even safer shores. He did pick up a small injury in this one but is likely to be fit for his next bout against Michael Dobson. This will be an extremely tough fight as Dobson has also looked good these past couple of weeks and both fighters will be fighting to get clear of the other.

Another tough loss for Serj Khak but he could still very much end up with a qualifying spot with a final push in this opening round. He next faces second place Regis Petrozuli and things will definitely be tough but luckily for Khak, he will not be the only one going into the fight with an injury.

Michael Dobson v Mongali Samsom

(Dobson def. Samson by TKO, 01:40 Rd 1)

Much like Harry Tournament, Michael Dobson’s fortunes have seemingly turned around over these past few weeks and with his decisive win over Mongali Samson tonight, Dobson moves up into the third spot in Group A albeit in a three way tie and separated by virtue of needing less time to finish his fights.

He will now face Harry Tournament in what will definitely be an important showdown for both of them and thankfully, he should be at his best on the night.

A big step backwards for Samson who now drops outside of the qualifying positions and will definitely find his remaining results all the more important after this loss. He has a tough fight ahead of himself as he goes head to head with group A number one seed Patrick O’Phoenix who himself will be desperately trying to move up into a safe spot after dissapointing so far. Though both fighters are likely to be injury free, Samson will be sporting a fairly significant cut that will definitely not heal in time.

Patrick O'Phoenix v Diego Columbo

(Columbo def. O'Phoenix by TKO, 00:19 Rd 1)

Another disappointing result for early favourite Patrick O’Phoenix who now has one hell of a fight ahead of himself if he is to secure a spot for himself in the next round. A TKO loss at the hands of Diego Columbo in just nineteen seconds pushes Columbo into the safety of fourth in group A. O’Patrick takes a massive drop from fourth down into seventh and in danger of being left behind those in-front.

Diego Columbo will now have a massive opportunity to pick up a win over undefeated group leader Okino Naruhiko who despite dominating once more this week, will be heading into battle will a nagging injury that will likely impact his performance substantially.

For Patrick O’Phoenix, lady luck may finally have taken pity on him as he also has a big opportunity to pick up a win after finally getting clear of a niggling injury himself. He faces Mongali Samson who is likely to be guarding a fairly prominent cut from his battle tonight.

Okino Naruhiko v Regis Petrozuli

(Naruhiko def. Petrozuli by KO, 03:55 Rd 3)

It was a showdown between undefeated group A front runners Okino Naruhiko and Regis Petrozuli and after going into round three having both taken a round each, it was Naruhiko that was able to take home the victory and the top spot with his ground and pound accuracy being the biggest contributing factor.

The fight definitely took it’s toll on both fighters and now both will be going into their next fights will injuries.

Okino Naruhiko will face a fit and healthy Diego Columbo next and though victory is now unlikely prospect, he is likely done enough to secure a spot in the next round. His biggest concern will no doubt be to not aggravate his injury any further

Regis Petrozuli will face last placed Serj Khak who will also be coming into the fight injured. Petrozuli currently sits in second place and is some four points clear of his closest rival. A decent distance but not quite enough to rest easy just yet.

Group B

Weekly Round Up – Opening Round 1.4

(9th Feb 2019)

Jon Bones v Tommy Du Mahss

(Bones def. Du Mahss by TKO, 04:12 Rd 3)

Something of an upset in this one as Jon Bones picked up his second win of the tournament this time over Tommy Du Mahss. It was a fairly active fight with both fighters giving and taking shots but it was Bones’ work in the clinch that really sealed the win for him which ended by doctors stoppage.

Jon Bones now moves closer to a qualifying spot though is still currently outside in a tightly contested group B. He will next face struggling third seed Rick Gallowgate who is still looking to pick up his first win. Though a betting man would likely pick Bones as a strong favourite in that one, both fighters will be fit and healthy and Gallowgate surely will be looking to go out in a blaze of glory.

Tommy Du Mahss manages to remain in a qualifying spot despite the loss but things are tight and he will not want to drop to another defeat next week. He faces undefeated Sven Eklund who will not be at full health coming in. Something that may boost Du Mahss confidence though he himself will be sporting a cut

Sven Eklund v Thom Tharrier

(Eklund def Tharrier by Sub, 04:48 Rd 1)

Sven Eklund continued his impressive run of form with a submission victory over Thom Tharrier. He did have to overcome an early scare as Tharrier dropped him to the canvas with a huge right hand but Eklund was able to recover and get the takedown that lead to victory. Eklund now leads Group B and looks very good for a spot in the next round.

That simple lapse in concentration cost however has left him with a decent injury of which he will not be fully healed from in his next fight. He faces Tommy Du Mahss who will be fit but nursing a cut and might have to prepare for his first loss of the season.

Thom Tharrier remains in third place despite the loss but will need to be at his absolute best if he is to get a result against undefeated second placed Hugues Dupont in his next fight. Both fighters should be fit on the night

Hugues Dupont v Carlos Junior

(Dupont def Junior by Dec)

Despite sporting a fairly significant injury coming into this, struggling Carlos Junior gritted his teeth and managed to get probably the very best result he could have hoped for and took undefeated group favourite Hughes Dupont to a judges decision. The result was so impressive that some may even consider this a something of a victory for the Brazilian.

Though still a win for Dupont, he does now drop a point behind Sven Eklund and concede the joint top spot. He now faces heavy hitting striker Thom Tharrier next and will likely be a heavy favourite going into that one.

Despite the impressive grit on display, Carlos Junior does still remain without a win though he does climb out from the bottom as his decision loss doesn’t come with a point loss. It would take something very special to qualify at this point and considering that his injury still plagues him coming into his next bout against Victor Slaughter, finding a win before the end of the first round of fights would likely be a sensible goal from here.

Victor Slaughter v Rick Gallowgate

(Slaughter def. Gallowgate by Sub, 02:25 Rd 1)

Like a few other fighters in the tournament, it has taken a couple of early losses for Victor Slaughter to find his rhythm and tonight he managed to even his record to 2-2 with a win over struggling seeded fighter Rick Gallowgate. Slaughter further pushes to cement a qualifying spot and now resides at number four and is tied for points with Tommy Du Mahss and separated by time.

Slaughter next faces battered BJJ fighter Carlos Junior who is still without a win and has been plagued by injuries throughout this tournament. Another probably win for Slaughter would help secure him his predicted place in the next round.

For Gallowgate, the loss marks his fourth in a row and qualification looks to be an incredibly far fetched dream though he will be completely fit and healthy going into his next fight against Jon Bones

Group C

Weekly Round Up – Opening Round 1.4

(9th Feb 2019)

Legend Broly v JT Rolli

(Broly def. Rolli by KO, 00:53 Rd 2)

Legend Broly made sure to take his opportunity at a win when he took on injured JT Rolli but Rolli didn’t go down without a fight which made for very entertaining viewing. Some incredible action inside the clinch with Broly utilising all manner of varied strikes to cut Rolli wide open.

Legend Broly picked up some sorely needed points in this one which very much keeps the hope of a spot in the second round alive. He moves up from seventh to sixth and is joint on points with three other fighters. The only thing that separates Broly is his forfeit win which obviously counts for less overall. Broly now prepares to face seeded striker Abdufatto Zamanov and both will be fully fit on the night.

For JT Rolli, luck just hasn’t been on his side this tournament and though he will be injury free in his next fight against undefeated group leader Amanda Nunes, he will be suffering from a massive cut. Though not yet technically eliminated, JT Rolli will do well to finish the tournament with a win or two

Amanda Nunes v Alf Konrad

(Nunes def. Konrad by TKO, 01:08 Rd 1)

Another win and another first round KO for undefeated Amanda Nunes who extends his/her lead to four points at the top of group C. On this occasion it was Alf Konrad on the receiving end of Nunes Semtex hands though he still manages to cling on to a qualifying spot at number four.

Nunes will now face last placed JT Rolli and is likely to be a strong betting favourite in that one. Another win would more than likely guarantee a place in the next round of the tournament.

For Alf Konrad, the loss drops him to 2-2 and down a spot in the group table. He will be fully fit for his next fight of which will be an incredibly tough showdown with second place wrestler Kyle Cruz.

Kyle Cruz v Bishop Heahmund

(Cruz def. Heahmund by KO, 03:23 Rd 1)

This was an important fight at the top of the Group C table with both fighters sporting a 2-1 record going into it. On this occasion it was Kyle Cruz who showed zero respect to the jiu-jitsu skills of his opponent, brushing aside Bishop Heahmund’s submission attempts on his way to a brutal first round ground and pound KO finish.

With the win, Kyle Cruz really begins to put the agony of his thyroid problems behind him as he begins to firmly cement himself a spot in the next round of the tournmant. Of course things can change in an instant and Cruz is not so far clear that he can afford to take his foot of the gas as yet. He next faces Alf Konrad and both fighters will be fit on the night.

A disappointing result for Bishop Heahmund after a promising start in the opening round of action. Heahmund has now dropped two in a row and now finds himself precariously perched in the third spot but joint points with three other fighters. He will just about be clear of injury for his next bout against fellow grappler Amadeo Camara in what should be a very tightly contested showdown.

Amadeo Camara v Abdufatto Zamanov

(Camara def. Zamanov by KO, 01:59 Rd 1)

Second seed Amadeo Camara continues to rebound after a tough start in the tournament this time with a win over third seed Abdufatto Zamanov and the result sees both fighters trade spots in the table. This means that it is Camara now sitting in the safe spot while Zamanov drops outside and down into seventh.

Camara will now face BJJ fighter Bishop Heahmund in the next round of fights and will no doubt be hoping their respective forms continue into that fight. Both fighters are expected to be healthy going into the fight

Another disappointing result for Abdufatto Zamanov who will now know the importance of every single point available from this point. He is now clear of his injury that hampered his result which will no doubt boost his confidence as he takes on fellow striker Legend Broly in his next bout

Group D

Weekly Round Up – Opening Round 1.4

(9th Feb 2019)

Alan Odrobny v Prince Thick

(Odrobny def. Thick by TKO, 01:55 Rd 2)

Another big win for Alan Odrobny who this time picks up maximum points at the expense of Prince Thick. He now moves up into third place whilst all of Thick’s early work looks to be undone as he drops outside of the qualifying positions at number six.

He next faces 2-2 Marcus St Stone and with such an evenly contested group, any points are going to be important. Both fighters will be fit for that fight.

The loss marks Thick’s second in a row and he will no doubt be looking to get positive results for the final half of his first round schedule. He next faces Bubba Sparxxx who has yet to find a win so far.

Bubba Sparxxx v Johannes Boe

(Boe def. Sparxxx by KO, 00:15 Rd 1)

A victory in the face of some poor form AND an injury was just too much to ask for Bubba Sparxxx who dropped his fourth in a row tonight this time to Johannes Boe in just fifteen seconds. The win was extremely important for Boe who was able to move back up into a qualifying spot again.

Boe will next face disappointing Roar Dinosuar Jr who despite being injury free will be dealing with an unhealed cut.

For Bubba Sparxx, he will have as good an opportunity as ever as he faces Prince Thick who is currently in poor form but qualification is likely to be out of the question

Roar Dinosuar Jr v Daniel Bradshaw

(Bradshaw def. Dinosuar Jr by TKO, 01:16 Rd 1)

Daniel Bradshaw put on a big performance tonight against early favourite for Group D Roar Dinosuar and really did a number on him in the clinch and managed to pick up a TKO victory in a little over a minute. Dinosuar has been disappointing so far and now finds himself in an almost insurmountable position to come back from.

The win moves Bradshaw into second place but tied for points with first place Heitor Machado. These two will square off against each other next week in what is sure to be a massive fight for the group. Both fighters will be at their best come the night.

Roar Dinosuar Jr will face Johannes Boe and will need to do so while protecting a nasty cut sustained in this evenings war. This makes things even more difficult for Dinosuar who might just be too far behind the rest of the group to mount a come back. Next weeks result is likely to be make or break for him.

Heitor Machado v Marcus St Stone

(Machado def. St Stone by Sub, 02:41 Rd 1)

A big result for Heitor Machado who picks up the win against Marcus St Stone who was riding a two fight win streak. Machado now sits at the top of the Group D table by virtue of having the most finish victories so far.

He faces a top of the table clash with second place Daniel Bradshaw and as both are tied on the same points, a victory for either would establish the top spot.

Marcus St Stone clings on to a qualifying spot though he does drop down into fifth and only one point ahead of Prince Thick below him. He next faces in form Alan Odrobny and both are expected to be fit for the showdown.
