Tips/Tricks

What are some tips and tricks you veteran players have learned or come across that you could share with some of the newer base players?

It could be things that may already be known or things that YOU have figured out along the way.

I love this game and I understand it's hard and a lot to process so I thought maybe helping out newer players may increase the chances of them staying and giving us more fights and more depth.

When I first started I read through a lot of posts that said the sliders do not hold a whole lot of relevance in fights. I've come to learn that is complete BS they play a huge role. I would advise newer players to study and get to know the sliders and experiment with different settings for different styles of fighters. It could be the difference between a win and a loss.

The best thing new managers can do is get a mentor and ask them lots of questions. There's a lot to learn and when you think you know it all there's more.

When I started I didn't even know about managers, when I did find out I got one and could only utilize him for 2 weeks, big oversight on my part.

Back in the days you could get by with 2-3 cookie cutter slider settings and pretty much beat the 99% noob population.

Nowadays seeing a former #1 ranked manager doesn’t mean much as the game and managers are much tougher. A lot of the former top guys can’t even crack the top 20 anymore.

Getting a mentor and applying yourself to slider studying is a must. Also trying different things or you will become easy to figure out by other managers.

Some really good managers still hunting the top 10 :) right now Arseworth, Laz , Melchiott and Coffie stand out , the rest are just a joke lol

Taking time to go through your opponents old fights are also helpful when it comes to the sliders. You can get a better idea of how you think they have they're sliders set. When aguyhas (2) Boxing but (12) Wrestling and has 10-2 record with 10 TKOs that will usually tell you they take you down and ground and pound. Common sense goes alongway.

Or you could click the fighter stats page and see how often they do each move.

  • 2 weeks later...

As a lot of people in this thread said, GET A MENTOR! They will help you massively. I got my mentor, Jack King, after about 2-4 weeks of playing and since then I got a much better view of the game and I understand the game much more! I probably would've given up if it wasn't for Jack. Been playing for about 4 months I think!

Study your opponents fights. Adapt to their gameplan.. LEARN SLIDERS!!! being new you're going to have around the same stats with physicals (assuming you're fighting 25yr olds with around same ID). Most of these kind of guys are 1 trick ponies.. Youre going to have a lot of striker vs grappler matchups and sometimes its the same vs same.. If you're both good at striking then learn how often he's pushing the pace or going to the 1 punch kos.. Same with wrestler vs wrestler, see if hes a gnp build or a sub build.. Wrestlers with white belts tend to be more of the gnp build where if you see one with blue+belt then chances are hes a sub build.. Counter that shit lol.. And just because you're outclassed in areas doesn't mean you can't win.. Take my last fight as an example.. Classic striker vs grappler match up.. Not once did the fight hit the mat but I was out matched in wrestling.. That's where the sliders came into play.

I could not stress enough about slider studying. I know a few managers have posted about needing help with them and how to beat takedown spammers. We can use this thread to do a bit of a revision if you guys want. I know a few managers have also mentioned how nobody is gonna give you the knowledge, well I can try, not much else to do really.

1- We can revise this fight if anyone wishes: https://www.mmatycoon.com/fightcommentary.php?FTID=985817

Pure slider mastery against a better trained oponent and good manager/camp. Basically how to beat those grapplers....errr barely lol :P

2- On the topic of slider studying and applying yourself here is a good example: https://www.mmatycoon.com/scoutfight.php?fida=342528&fidb=341417

This fight is a nightmare for me, John Coffie is a bad bad man and legit former #1 p4p in the game, trust me this is important a lot of fakes out there. His guy is well trained and has great hiddens, fast learner too just by looking at his primaries. The total package in terms of project/manager and I have the honour of welcoming him to FARTMMA. Fair fights only remember? :)

He has 1 fight only and he crushed his victim in 0:17 so that ain`t gonna help, no data there. So what to do ??

Here is where you gotta think outside the box, you gotta study the manager and find a fighter in Camp Coffie similar to Keith Primeau and a fight at an earlier stage of his career and cross reference Keith`s primaries with the tale of the tape data of said Coffie fighter to find some tips.....

So that brings us here: https://www.mmatycoon.com/fightcommentary.php?FTID=930490

Yes, now let the studying begin :)

Tomorrow when we get the results we can disect this fight. This guy Primeau is the real deal and unless he has a bad chin (which should take 1-2 more fights to find out) he will run through Gangsterweight on his way to challenge Techno Viking. I had to call the son of Chris Steve to fight him from my own stable lol , I`m still testing Yago and tested he will be.
