FFC 4: Step Up is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by Fortitude FC on May 31, 2014 at Hayashi's Lounge in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

(Background)

Fortitude FC is proud to bring you another exciting line-up of fighters. With five former world champions and several old flaming rivalries rekindled, this is one MMA show that you won't want to miss!

In the main event, lightning will strike and thunder will be heard as Diego Sanchez clashes with supreme knockout afficionado Xavier Barbossa.

Meanwhile, in the co-main event, an old fiery rivalry will be rekindled as Andrzej Sternik faces off against the man that ended his KOMMA championship run, Grey Wolf. Both men are hard hitting brawlers so this fight is sure to produce fireworks.

(The Action)

-[Light-heavyweight bout ]: Jaye Wong (1-6) versus Steven Davies (1-0)

-[Preview ]: There is no polite way to say this so I'm going to be blunt: Jaye Wong is an unintentional jobber. He is a victim of poor skill point placement and an even poorer roll of the dice when it comes to hidden traits. A tour of his attempted techniques thrown shows that he is all over the board with his attacks: he punches, kicks, wrestles, etc. This sounds good in theory but when you're at a lower level, more skill points in fewer skills is always the best option. Make yourself dominant in one field and focus on that before moving onto other skills.

Steven Davies is a pure boxer. Unfortunately for him, he really doesn't seem to have much in the way of knockout power and hasn't been trained well enough to compensate for it. At the age of 18, there isn't a lot that he knows how to do yet.

-[Prediction ]: This is going to be an ugly fight that goes the distance. I actually give the edge to Jaye Wong if he will go for the takedown and do everything in his power to keep Davies on the ground. He could even feasibly score a submission here.

-[Bantamweight bout]: Renan Barao (1-1) versus Somulo Mafra (0-2)

-[Preview]: Renan Barao, unlike his real life namesake, started fighting at 25 and is focused almost entirely on his Jiu-Jitsu skills. His takedowns are just good enough to get an unprepared opponent to the ground. However, his overall wrestling is found to be wanting. When I see a fighter designed like Somulo Mafra I assume that he is a clinch fighter with a side of boxing for defense. In this instance, however, he appears to be a pure wrestler that has boxing for defense with no Jiu-Jitsu to keep him afloat on the ground. If he wants to take Barao down, I'm sure that Barao will be more than happy to oblige him. Seriously though, Mafra, remake this fighter as a pure clinch/takedown defense/boxer and you will fare much better, bud.

-[Prediction]: No matter who goes for the takedown, this fight will take place on the ground with Renan Barao scoring his second straight submission victory. Probably in the first round.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Ryoto Machida (6-8-1) versus Banjo Sanjo (2-0)

-[Preview]: What we have here is an experienced veteran meeting a young up-and-comer. This is a great fight for Ryoto Machida because if he can keep this fight on the feet long enough, he can start to comfortably drop bombs and put the undefeated streak of Banjo Sanjo to sleep before it can really take off.

Ryoto is extremely well rounded with his chief focus being on his boxing and his wrestling. He may not be a world beater when it comes to his knockout power but I believe he has more than enough thunder in his hands to finish this one.

Banjo Sanjo is your cookie cutter 25-year-old Jiu-Jitsu fighter. In order for one of these to be effective, he will need to spread himself rather thinly and leave a lot of holes in his game. Even if he takes Machida down, I don't see him keeping it there long enough to do anything with it.

-[Prediction]: I think we will be hearing the commentators saying something along the lines of, “That's three failed takedown attempts in a row. That's going to take a lot out of Sanjo”. I do believe that Sanjo will hang in there and maybe score with some wrestling briefly but I think Machida will gas him out and put on a striking clinic. Machida via Unanimous Decision 29-28.

-[Bantamweight bout]: Tadeusz Ostrowski (3-0) versus Tom Jarvis (0-1)

-[Preview]: Tadeusz Ostrowski is an exciting prospect with a perfect 3-0 record comprised of all submission victories. Tad, as I will henceforth refer to him, really seems to be improving which is a huge statement when you start your career at the ripe age of 25. His boxing is coming along nicely and although it is still in its infancy, he may be able to score a knockout in this fight. Tom Jarvis struggled when he faced a tough Muay Thai prospect in his professional debut. If you were going to design an ideal opponent for Tom Jarvis, it would be another grappler that will take him down and test him on the ground. Tad may be that guy but don't be surprised if this one is decided on the feet instead.

-[Prediction]: Tad takes this hands down. He has the superior wrestling and he has a very slight edge in pure boxing as well. Tom Jarvis has dipped into Muay Thai, don't get me wrong, but he spread all of his eggs into multiple baskets upon creation if you will. Tad focused chiefly on his grappling upon creation and is now working his boxing in an effort to improve and keep his winning streak alive. Expect Tad to win this fight and continue his reign of terror.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Roger Howlingate (9-10) versus Bork Laser (1-2)

-[Preview]: Roger Howlingate is a veteran of many leagues. He has competed in BFC and KOMMA. He always seems to be the bridesmaid, just one win away from wearing championship gold. On the feet, he is a very aggressive striker. On the ground he actively advances position and struggles to get free. His one real weakness seems to be against the cage in the clinch. (Un?)luckily for him, he is facing a pure Jiu-Jitsu stylist in Bork Laser. Bork's singular focus in life is to choke the necks and contort the limbs of opponents to make them submit to his will.

-[Prediction]: Unfortunately for Bork, he is facing a heavy handed brawler that isn't completely unfortunate in the field of wrestling. I think Howlingate gets a big knockout win here.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Steve Orvel (7-6) versus Henrique Tavares (1-0)

-[Preview]: Steve Orvel is an experienced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu grappler that enjoys a healthy advantage over most of his opponents. He is a stranger to the judge's decision table because almost all of his fights end in some form of stoppage for or against him. Meanwhile, Henrique Tavares is a virtual newcomer to the sport with only one fight under his proverbial belt. One thing that we got to see in the debut performance of Tavares is that he has an incredible amount of heart and is difficult to stop. He got absolutely rocked silly against a dude with vastly superior boxing and he managed to turn it around and actually knock out his opponent instead.

-[Prediction]: This fight is Henrique's to lose. This is an opportunity to make a big statement and say, “I'm here and I'm a threat in the light-heavyweight division”. I think that Henrique's defensive wrestling will be more than enough to keep Orvel at bay and I think the heavy hands of Henrique Tavares will end this fight in the second or third round when Orvel's gas tank begins to dwindle.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Daemon Targaryen (6-0) versus Valentin Ralek (6-0)

-[Preview]: This is a very intriguing match-up between two fighters that got started late in the game and are both premier strikers. With Daemon Targaryen you have a pure heavy-handed boxing stylist and he is facing a hard nosed kickboxer in Valentin Ralek. On paper you have to give this fight to Daemon Targaryen for having the superior boxing. Both men love to throw leather and look for the knockout. If I were in Valentin's corner I would be focusing almost exclusively on the kicks; try to chop Targaryen down and hit him in the body as well. Slow him down and make him miserable.

-[Prediction]: If Ralek had started competing at a younger age and had reached this level through elite training, I would give him a clear advantage in this match-up. However, I have to assume that his striking skills are evenly divided between punches and kicks. Therefore, the majority of the strikes landed will likely be punches which would favor Targaryen.

So yeah I think Targaryen will win this fight via judge's decision. On the feet, I expect it to be relatively even but I think this fight will go into the clinch as well which will be all Daemon Targaryen. Nice name reference, by the way.

-[Bantamweight bout]: John Bzdunek (11-6) versus Tomas Kalnoky (7-3)

-[Preview]: John Bzdunek is a top notch bantamweight fighter. He is a tremendous threat because he is capable of finishing you on the feet throwing bombs or on the ground with submissions. His only weakness, if you will, really is his wrestling skills. Tomas Kalnoky will want to utilize his superior wrestling to smother Bzdunek and make him uncomfortable, and work for a submission.

-[Prediction]: Look, I'm a tremendous proponent of fighters training wrestling to a high level. You can have a guy that focuses mainly on his striking and his jiu-jitsu but that guy needs to be an absolute killer in both facets to be effective. I think that Tomas Kalnoky is going to exploit this weakness and probably get a first or second round submission finish. Possibly even a rear naked choke as Bzdunek tries to roll his way to salvation. I think there are a lot of great fights out there for Bzdunek to win but this isn't one of them.

-[Middleweight bout]: Grey Wolf (11-4) v ersus Andrezej Sternik (6-1)

-[Preview]: Grey Wolf is the premier pure boxing stylist within the FFC middleweight division. He enjoys a comfortable advantage over most of his foes due in a large part to his incredible knockout power but also because he threatens with takedowns and offensive grappling as well. It's that threat that tends to even the playing field and make opponents hesitate before engaging him in fisticuffs.

After going 7-2 on The Island and nearly climbing the ranks into a championship position, Grey Wolf faced a brief struggle to adjust to life on the outside. After suffering back-to-back defeats for the first time in his career, he decided to screw his head on straight and work for a shot at the title. He would earn that shot based on back-to-back destructions of his fellow contenders. He smited Andrezej like it wasn't a problem and claimed the KOMMA championship title.

For Andrezej Sternik, this is an opportunity to prove that the first fight was a fluke and that his KOMMA championship run was legit. To do that, he's going to need to overcome what may prove to be the superior striker in Grey Wolf. He's going to need to pick his shots and avoid getting caught up in a slug fest like he did last time.

-[Prediction]: I think history will repeat itself in that I believe Grey Wolf will put his heavy hands to good use by stopping Andrezej a second time. However, I believe this fight will last a bit longer as Andrezej comes out more cautious rather than rushing into the waiting fists of Wolf.

(Andrezej Sternik)

Record: 6-1

FFC Record: 1-0

Style: Boxing, Defensive Jiu-Jitsu

Height: 6'0

Career Highlight: Former KOMMA Middleweight Champion

-[Heavyweight bout]: Diego Sanchez (7-3) versus Xavier Barbossa (5-1)

-[Preview]: Diego Sanchez is an extremely high level submission fighter that holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He is a two time world heavyweight champion that has proven to be the foil of a man named Drago Kamarad. The reason that I mantion this is because Drago is a world beater that defeats all of his opponents via knockout, much like Diego's current opponent.

Xavier Barbossa is as tough as they come. He is a figher that, win or lose, has never sat on a stool between rounds in a professional MMA fight. This is because he comes out throwing bombs and topples most foes within a matter of seconds. When Mathayus Fane managed to survive the first two minutes of the fight, that was a big deal at the time because nobody else had retained their consciousness for that long.

-[Prediction]: While I can see Xavier Barbossa working his way back up through the ranks by simply being the next toughest dude in the lineup, I don't see how he defeats Diego Sanchez. The big game changer in this fight is the wrestling and I just don't think Barbossa is quite at the level to stop a guy like Diego that will aggressively look for the takedown.

One thing is for sure: if Diego Sanchez tries to counter his way into a takedown off of missed punches from Xavier, he's going to make a liar out of me.

Good job. A lot of fighters are BFC & KOMMA veterans or former champions. I'm happy that my org made a history.

My predictions (only former KOMMA fighters):

Sanchez by sub in 1st round

Wolf by KO in 1st round

Kalnoky by decision

Orvel by sub in 2nd round

Howlingate by TKO in 1st round

Good luck my friends!

FFC 4: Step Up

Saturday 31st May at Hayashi's Lounge - Rio (1,833/2,000)

What an event this turned out to be, our début showing at Hayashi's lounge brought us hard fought three rounders to stunningly quick knockouts and underdog victories. Excitement was high throughout the week building up with rumours thrown around that some winners tonight could be in for a chance of fighting for a Championship belt.

UNDERCARD

Jaye Wong (1-6) v Steven Davies (1-0)

A treat for the fans turning up early, a three round battle going the distance. Both fighters seemed happy taking the fight to the clinch with Davies looking by far more active by throwing in excess of 80 punches and elbows, but didn't look like he harmed Wong at all. Meanwhile Wong was determined to get down on the ground and put his superior wrestling skills to work, he finally had his chance midway through the third but failed to make it count as Davies looked to kill the fight. The fight went to decision with the judges deciding Davies did enough to take the fight on all cards.

Renan Barao (1-1) v Somulo Mafra (0-2)

Another three rounder here, Barao and Mafra vigorously fought all the way through to the third round where Mafra shot in instantly with a takedown putting Barao in real trouble. The referee decided he wasn't happy with what he saw and stood the fighters back only for Barao to hit Mafra with another huge takedown and finish the fight with three brutal strikes that forced the fight doctors into the cage. For the grit, determination and excellent finish this fight was awarded the Fight of the Night.

Ryoto Machida (6-8-1) v Banjo Sanjo (2-0)

Machida put his excellent boxing skills on show for all to see early on. His speed and power was clearly too much for Sanjo as he landed several powerful body shots within the first minute that distinctly damaged Sanjo's breathing. Machida managed to open a cut under Sanjo's left eye with a flurry of punches and used that to his advantage as later in the round Machida landed a devastating right hook with Sanjo's legs crumbling beneath him.

Tadeusz Ostrowski (3-0) v Tom Jarvis (0-1)

An expected win but not at all expected method. Ostrowski got to work at once which seemed to surprise Jarvis with a straight right hand knocking him to the ground. Jarvis was soon back on his wobbly legs only for Ostrowski to dive straight back in with a massive slam! I would not be surprised if Jarvis would be out of action for a couple of weeks with broken ribs after that KO! Ostrowski earned himself the Fight of the Night bonus as he took his unbeaten record to 4-0.

Roger Howlingate (9-10) v Bork Laser (1-2)

Howlingate decided to take this fight to the ground after a sloppy kick from Laser gave him an opportunity to counter a takedown. In hindsight I'm sure Howlingate would re-think his game plan after Laser managed to lock a triangle choke which left Howlingate no chance of escaping. A much needed win for Laser after losing on his FFC début.

Steve Orvel (7-6) v Henrique Tavares (1-0)

Tavares knew he had to keep this standing but his tactics were thrown out the window with Orvel shooting in for a takedown seconds after the bell. From there on Tavares looked lost, Orvel actively looked for a submission eventually getting there as Tavares got too close and was locked into a guillotine. A dominant performance by Orvel, his seventh submission win of his career.

Daemon Targaryen (6-0) v Valentin Ralek (6-0)

A big fight for both of these fighters, one will be taking the scalp of another's unbeaten record. It turned scrappy early on with both happy to fight in the clinch though Ralek looked the more active landing many solid elbows. One brutal elbow split the skin over Targaryens's left eye and that turned in to be his downfall. Ralek saw how much that hurt his opponent and saw it as a perfect target as he repeatedly went in for elbows, blood was flowing freely over Targaryen's eye while the referee eventually had to call in the doctors. The fight was just too dangerous to continue with Targayen's eyesight clearly impaired awarding Ralek the victory by way of TKO.

CO-MAIN EVENT

John Bzdunek (11-6) v Tomas Kalnoky (7-3)

A rematch both fighters had demanded after their first bout in FFC 1. Bzdunek needed to redeem himself while Kalnoky wanted to hush his doubters. Kalnoky dominated the first round after countering with an early takedown and began work on looking for a submission. Bzdunek defended well but that's all he managed, failing to land anything of note. Another quick takedown for Kalnoky in the second round, Bzdunek must have expected more of the same but a lapse in concentration allowed for Kalnoky to work a loose arm and piled on the pressure as he locked in a kimura arm lock. A fantastic win for Kalnoky, earning Submission of the Night, who will now look to move on and perhaps fight for the 135 lbs champion belt.

Grey Wolf (11-4) v Andrezej Sternik (6-1)

The second co-main event of the night was another rematch, this time from each fighters KOMMA days. Wolf looked to establish his jab from the start with several soft jabs just to keep his opponent at distance. This may have put Sternik into a false sense of security though as Wolf followed up a jab with a fierce left-right combination that saw Sternik crash to the mat. Sternik showed great heart to even get back up from those blows but is was all in vain as Wolf took no time in landing a catastrophic hook to the chin which once again saw Sternik hit the canvas.

MAIN EVENT

Diego Sanchez (7-3) v Xavier Barbossa (5-1)

Before this fight bookmakers all across Brazil were putting Barbossa as a large underdog. Most just couldn't see how he'd stop Sanchez taking the fight to the floor and earning an eighth submission victory. However Barbossa shocked everyone in attendance with a huge uppercut that Lennox Lewis would be proud of. His first punch of the bout completely wiped out Sanchez who looked dazed as he stumbled back to his feet. It appeared a large cut had opened up after that tremendous knockdown, that could be a big factor if this fight reaches the latter rounds, but Barbossa followed up with a Tyson-esque left hook which knocked his opponent out cold. Sanchez later congratulated his opponent in his post-fight interview.

FFC 5: Showdown is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by Fortitude FC on June 7, 2014 at The Underground arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

(Background)

Heavy handed veteran Kaz Yago looks to stake his claim in the Fortitude FC welterweight division as he faces off with the well rounded Vasilko Nikolaevich.

(The Action)

-[Welterweight bout]: AD Tricks (1-2) versus Steven Josslin (1-2)

-[Preview]: Our first fight of the night showcases two fighters that are in dire need of a victory. Ad Tricks is a boxer that is all over the place in terms of attemtpted techniques. He throws elbows and punches in the clinch, punches on the feet, and even goes for takedowns. In most of his fights, he has failed to impose his will on opponents. Steven Josslin is a wrestler that fights to secure the submission. Despite this, and much like his dance partner, he hasn't scored a finish yet. This is a fight in which both guys prefer to fight in the style that their opponent is weakest against.

-[Prediction]: Flip of the coin says AD Tricks.

-[Bantamweight bout]: Haha Urajoke (9-6) versus Benny Caine (11-4)

-[Preview]: The man aptly named Haha Urajoke is a former world champion that focuses his energies on submission wrestling. In his most recent three fights, he has displayed an incredible amount of heart in his losing efforts. Despite being rocked by heavy hitters, he has time and again stuck it out and survived much longer than so many other fighters would have in his place. He has very high level takedowns but virtually know takedown defense... mostly because he doesn't care, he wants you to take him down. He claimed the Heritage bantamweight championship of the world when he easily submitted the reigning champion. He would defend the title two times before hitting the losing streak that he now lives through. Benny Caine is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that will enjoy a tremendous advantage on the ground in this fight. Not only is his wrestling superior but his Jiu-Jitsu is clearly the better of the two.

-[Prediction]: Benny Caine wins it.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Lukas Ioannou (4-4) versus George Pierre Hennard (5-3)

-[Preview]: Lukas Ioannou is an extremely high level submission wrestler that holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Despite possessing an admirable skill set on the feet, his primary focus is taking opponents down and working towards a submission finish. George Hennard is arguably his clone; Hennard holds a significant advantage on his feet in this fight but his focus is to score with a takedown to secure a submission to end the fight. These dudes are so evenly matched that making a prediction is virtually impossible. However, I hate when people decide not to make a prediction so I'll go balls out here...

-[Prediction]: Lukas Ioannou takes this one due to his superior wrestling and due to the fact that he has never been submitted.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Dag Kreuger (4-5) versus Brian Schroeder (1-0)

-[Preview]: Despite being a boxer+wrestler hybrid on paper, Dag Keurger is a ground-and-pound fighter with a decent double leg takedown in his arsenal. He will be welcoming Brian Schroeder, a young and versatile boxer, to the promotion. Brian has shown that he has lethal hands and is very capable of surviving on the ground and nullifying wrestlers from his back.

-[Prediction]: Brian Shroeder takes this one.

-[Bantamweight bout]: Ray Wolfe (5-5) versus Tom Jarvis (0-2)

-[Preview]: This fight will feature two Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belts going head-to-head. On paper, Wolfe has the edge in experience and the edge in grappling due to his wrestling training. However, Jarvis has been training his wrestling and his kickboxing as well.

-[Prediction]: This kind of fight can go either way. Either guy can pull off the fight ending submission... do you go with the man that has the experience but has also been submitted three times? Or do you go with the guy that has never won a fight? I'll go with the former: Ray Wolfe wins this one.

-[Super-heavyweight bout]: Donatan Cleo (0-0) versus Royler Gracie (5-0)

-[Preview]: MMA newcomer Donatan Cleo is reportedly a very high level kickboxer. That is about where his skill set ends. He has no wrestling whatsoever and no submission awareness. He will be taking on an undefeated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert when he meets Royler Gracie. The only disadvantage that Royler has is that he is reportedly overtrained and as a result will be coming into this fight with virtually no energy. So yeah, this fight will come down to the battle of: Can Royler Gracie pull off his second submission in six fights before he gasses out?

-[Prediction]: Yes. Yes he can.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Juan Mott (5-1) versus Holt McCoy (5-0)

-[Preview]: Juan Mott is a wrestler that discovered his tremendous knockout power early on and began his training boxing as a result. Early in his career he took opponents down and focused on takedowns and ground-and-pound but has since switched to focusing on his boxing. Holt McCoy is a pure Jiu-Jitsu specialist that has very high level wrestling to compliment it. He isn't a total slouch on the feet but his boxing skills are entirely defensive.

-[Prediction]: Juan Mott has a puncher's chance in this fight but I believe McCoy takes this one via submission.

-[Welterweight bout]: Danny Glover (11-4) (2-0 FFC) versus Michael Jordan (0-0)

-[Preview]: Danny Glover is a veteran of the sport; a two time KO of the night winner that scores power punches on his feet and submissions on the ground. Michael Jordan is a newcomer to the sport that reportedly possesses adequate boxing and wrestling.

-[Prediction]: At 25, Jordan doesn't have very far to go in the gym. He reportedly still trains at Cozad's gym for Christ's sakes. Danny Glover via KO or submission, I can go either way on this one.

-[Welterweight bout]: Grant Benton (9-7) versus Rusty Nales (4-1)

-[Preview]: Grant Benton is a veteran and former title contender from the CBC and GFC fight leagues. He is able to bring the fight into a variety of positions to try to find the vulnerabilities of his opponent. He has extremely high wrestling and possesses a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Rusty Nales made his name fighting up the ranks in the ECFC promotion. While there he defeated three straight opponents using a combination of his kickboxing and ground and pound.

-[Prediction]: I think that this will be a very close fight but I've got Rusty Nales winning a decision or a late TKO stoppage.

-[A closer look]

(Grant Benton)

Record: 9-7

FFC Record: N/A

Knockouts: 6

Submissions: 0

Style: Freestyle

Height: 5'9

Weight: 185 lbs

In this fight: While Rusty Nales has shown that he is vulnerable to ground-and-pound from a high level of wrestler, I have to question Grant's ability to keep him on the ground and pound him out. I'd like to see Benton put Nales in the clinch and hit him to the body to drain his gas tank to score a late TKO.

(Rusty Nales)

Record: 4-1

FFC Record: N/A

Knockouts: 2

Submissions: 0

Style: Muay Thai, Wrestling

Height: 5'7

Weight: 180 lbs

In this fight: Rusty Nales needs to mix it up; a plethora of kicks on the feet, ground-and-pound from side control on the ground. I believe that he has more than adequate technique to score a dominant judge's decision.

-[Welterweight bout]: Kaz Yago (10-9) (1-0 FFC) versus Vasilko Nikolaevich (9-1)

-[Preview]: Former UPF title contender Kaz Yago returns to the FFC cage to take on the dominant former BFC welterweight champion. Yago is a dangerous opponent for any man as he possesses tremendous knockout power as well as a very high level ground game. Vasilko Nikolaevich is the epitome of a knockout artist. His Muay Thai is as dangerous as it comes with a high volume of his victories coming via head kick knockout. His reign as the welterweight champion in BFC saw him retire from the title undefeated.

-[Prediction]: Both fighters possess devastating knockout power. It's highly unlikely that this fight happens anywhere except on the feet. I have nothing but respect for the abilities of Kaz Yago but I have to give this one to the younger man. Vasilko Nikolaevich via TKO and something about his head kicks.

-[A closer look]

(Kaz Yago)

Record: 10-9

FFC Record: 1-0

Knockouts: 5

Submissions: 4

Style: Boxing, Jiu-Jitsu

Height: 5'8

Weight: 181 lbs

In this fight: Yago doesn't have the best wrestling but I would be looking to score a knockdown or takedown between power punches. He needs to be wary of the power of Nikolaevich but he has some dynamite in his hands as well. He needs to do whatever it takes to score power punches on the feet and get a takedown. I'd be interested in seeing what Nikolaevich has when put on the ground with a high level BJJ fighter.

(Vasilko Nikolaevich)

Record: 9-1

FFC Record: N/A

Knockouts: 6

Submissions: 0

Style: Muay Thai

Height: 5'8

Weight: 185 lbs

In this fight: Vasilko should focus heavily on his kicks and avoid trading punches with Yago. He needs to focus on his leg kicks and head kicks. Mix it up and try to score that thunderous knockout high kick that has become his trademark in past fights.

FFC 6: Brazilian Blitz is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by Fortitude FC on June 14, 2014 at Wild Bob's Bar in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

(Background)

Two light-heavyweight knockout artists will collide in this action packed main event. With various other FFC fighters making their return, this is one you won't want to miss!

(The Action)

-[Heavyweight bout]: Otis Kade (5-2)(1-0 FFC) versu Theodore Smith (0-3)(0-1 FFC)

-[Preview]: Twin boxers Otis Kade and Theodore Smith will collide to begin this show. Neither combatant possesses much in the way of a ground game so this fight will take place on the feet. Theodore is interesting because he has zero kickboxing experience yet he has thrown virtually no punches, aside from a few combinations, and heavy kicking techniques.

-[Prediction]: Otis Kade wins via stoppage for sure.

-[ Light-heavyweight bout ]: Chance Silver (5-6)(1-1 FFC) versus Bernardo Marcias (0-2)

-[Preview]: Chance Silver is a wrestler that dabbles in boxing but favors ground and pound. Bernardo Marcias is a boxer that has shown mild success throwing strikes in the clinch as well. Bernardo has lost both of his professional fights to submission fighters which Silver is not.

-[Prediction]: I'm looking for Bernardo Marcias to pull out his first professional victory here.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Jojiro Yamanaka (0-0) versus Taco Bell (2-0)

-[Preview]: You know, I've always said that Taco Bell was a deadly substance. All the way back to my 2am Cheesy Gordita Crunch visits that probably sounded something like “Uhhh... y'know, can I have a couple of those cheesy crunches right quick, dude?” because I was an idiot. The thing is, those things always took me down and pounded me out on the ground via stomach problems.

Now, the undefeated QFC veteran Taco Bell has a very similar style in that he favors a quick takedown followed by relentless ground and pound that smashes opponents. He will be facing professional neophyte Jojiro Yamanaka who is reportedly an outstanding boxer that is no slouch on the ground. Can he keep Taco Bell out of his system?

-[Prediction]: No, I don't think he can. Taco Bell via digestive tract disorder.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Techo Alaga (5-5) versus Jonas Carvalho (1-2)(1-1 FFC)

-[Preview]: HERITAGE veteran Techo Alaga makes his FFC debut when he takes on a man of two FFC fights and limited success in Jonas Carvalho. Both of these guys can take it to you in any aspect of the fight, throwing strikes on the feet, strikes in the clinch, and even wrestling aggressively on the ground. While Carvalho has an edge in wrestling, Alaga has more success putting it all together in a single fluid style. On the feet we have Alaga with both punches and kicks versus Carvalho's kicking techniques.

-[Prediction]: Techo Alaga possibly via TKO after a grueling couple of rounds.

-[Middleweight bout]: Nicklas Porsin (2-0)(1-0 FFC) versus Enrique Santiago (1-0)(1-0 FFC)

-[Preview]: This is an interesting stylistic match-up. You have the wrestling control and iron chin of Nicklas Porsin going against the power and superior boxing of Enrique Santiago. Nicklas Porsin has one style that he has practiced in his prior two outings: he throws various punches and kicks, clinches to score with knees and punches, but really wants a takedownwhere he can score with his ground and pound. We don't have a lot of information on Enrique's habits and that comes directly from the fact that he obliterated his only opponent in under twenty seconds. We saw him knock out a vastly superior Muay Thai striker in that fight.

-[Prediction]: While I think early on that Porsin will get smothering takedowns, maybe clinch with the man, I don't think he can sustain the type of style that he needs to win this one so I'll have to go with Enrique Santiago via late TKO. (I actually really enjoy Porsin's style so that saddens me to say haha)

-[Heavyweight bout]: George Waterson (0-1)(0-1 FFC) versus Rodrigo Silva (7-1)(2-0 FFC)

-[Preview]: The boxer George Waterson is way out of his league in this fight. He will be fighting a veteran of eight fights that has the exact style necessary to crush him. Rodrigo Silva is exactly what he looks like: a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist that has enough time training wrestling to get the job done.

-[Prediction]: Rodri go Silva via submission.

-[Welterweight bout]: David Souza (2-0)(1-0 FFC) versus Namba Babakla (10-6)(0-1 FFC)

-[Preview]: David Souza could be the next big thing, an up-and-coming submission fighter and decent all around prospect. He will be facing off with a legitimate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt that has earned his belt status. This is Babakla's fight to win.

-[Prediction]: While the ancient story of the purple belt submitting a red belt in the QFC arena is still fresh in my mind, this is a totally different situation. Namba Babakla is going to let Souza take him down and he is going to finish him on the ground.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Sagan Tyson (10-5)(1-0 FFC) versus Molton Hope (2-2)(0-1 FFC)

-[Preview]: If you just review the fighter records, you may think that this is going to be a landslide squash match for the veteran, Sagan Tyson, but you would be a fool to disregard the striking of Molton Hope. Hope has never been submitted and has an impressive armada of tools to keep him on the feet and punching.

-[Prediction]: That said, I'm going with Tyson to win this one on the ground. His combination of strikes and submissions will prove too much.

-[Bantamweight bout]: Pawel Nastula (3-0)(2-0 FFC) versus John Bzdunek (11-7)(0-2 FFC)

-[Preview]: It's funny when a 25-year-old creation can call himself the young lion but in Pawel's case, it's actually the truth. Pawel Nastula will be taking on the 30-year-old veteran mixed martial artist John Bzdunek. John is a seriously well rounded fighter that is capable of boxing you up on the feet and submitting you with his Jiu-Jitsu. The only flaw in his style, which tends to a common one among “well rounded fighters” is his limited wrestling ability.

-[Prediction]: Pawel Nastula will get this fight to the ground and win it within ten minutes.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Ryo Narushima (14-9)(1-0 FFC) versus RV Malapitan (9-3)

-[Preview]: Ryo Narushima is a real knockout artist. All but two of his many victories have come by way of brutal knockout. A majority of them came from his power head kicks. In the clinch and at a distance, Ryo is constantly throwing attacks from his legs. He has also done pretty well in keeping grapplers off of him although three of his defeats come via submission.

Well, there's no fear of a submission in this fight! RV Malapitan is a pure boxer that throws heavy leather and prefers to keep himself at a distance from opponents. With all but one of his victories coming by way of knockout, this fight is sure to produce fireworks!

-[Prediction]: The game changer in this fight is the clinch. Narushima does it very well and Malapitan does not. I predict that Ryo Narushima is going to clinch and knee Malapitan's brain into scrambled egg sandwiches.

-[A closer look]

(Ryo Narushima)

Record: 14-9

Knockouts: 12

Submissions: 0

Style: Muay Thai

Height: 5'8

Weight: 216 lbs

Career Highlight(s): Championship Title Challenger (x2), KO of the Night

(RV Malapitan)

Career Highlight(s): Fight of the Night (x3)

FFC 7: Wolf vs Flagg is an upcoming mixed marital arts event to be held by Fortitude FC on June 21, 2014 at the Hard Knocks casino in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

(Background)

FFC 7 is going to go down in the company's history as the fisrt of many MAJOR events that will be put on by the promotion. The tale of this cad is that of an epic; two championship fights and six knockout artists will headline this incredible event.

(The Action)

-[Middleweight bout]: God Nope (0-3)(0-1 FFC) versus Luca Rinaldi (2-2)(0-1 FFC)

-[Preview]: God Nope and Steven Davies need to agree to a light-heavyweight meeting as they are both pure strikers with no hope of ground defenses. God Nope is a pure Muay Thai stylist that has been knocked out, smacked around, and submitted by superior opponents. As he likely approaches his forth consecutive loss with virtually no skill improvements whatsoever, the question really becomes for God Nope: What the hell are you doing, man? Luca Rinaldi is a catch wrestler that is going to take Nope down and pound him to rubble.

-[Prediction]: If the referee doesn't stop the fight too quickly (TKO), then Rinaldi will score a first round submission. Either/or could happen in this instance. Either way Rinaldi by stoppage.

-[Super-heavyweight bout]: Rodolfo Vieira (0-0) versus Monkey Business (2-0)(1-0 FFC)

-[Preview]: Rodolfo Vieira is a newcomer to professional mixed martial arts but he is reported to be an expert in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with an increasing knowledge of wrestling techniques. Monkey Business is here to throw a monkey wrench into the neophyte's debut plans. What Monkey lacks in wrestling he makes up for in submission techniques. He is an absolute finisher on the ground.

-[Prediction]: Rodolfo Vieira by landslide victory. Even if the Jiu-Jitsu was even, Vieira's wrestling is a deal breaker.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Steven Davies (2-0)(1-0 FFC) versus Banjo Sanjo (2-1)(1-1 FFC)

-[Preview]: Steven Davies is a pure boxer with absolutely no training in any other fighting style. He has shown that he has a reasonable chin but questionable stopping power on his punches. He has defeated two questionable opponents via unanimous decision. Banjo Sanjo isn't letting this one go the distance, however. Banjo is a serious, dedicated, and trained Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt that has defeated two consecutive opponents via armlock submissions before falling victim to the rising star Ryoto Machida.

-[Prediction]: No contest, this fight shouldn't even be sanctioned. This one won't last as long, nor be nearly as competitive as, the infamous mismatch between Randy Couture and James Toney. Steven Davies should take a few months off after this defeat to actually train in wrestling and submission defense because he's going to take a free siminar (props to Ludwig) in this fight.

-[Welterweight bout]: Vrando Vraganza (12-5) versus Zesbis Silva (1-4)

-[Preview]: Vrando Vraganza is a freestyle fighter that utilizes all of his limbs to strike and batter opponents. In addition to his versatile stand-up, he has an excellent ground game. He has more finishes on the feet due to his stand-up but don't sleep on his Jiu-Jitsu. On paper, Zesbis has this one in the back; he has superior boxing and a ground game that should bring Vrando to a stalemate and force a stand-up.

-[Prediction]: That being said, Vrando Vraganza has the skills that we can't see, the physical training, and that special something. He's going to put Zesbis away hard.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Henrique Tavares (1-1)(0-1 FFC) vresus Steve Orvel (8-6)(2-0 FFC)

-[Preview]: Henrique Tavares has a ton of heart and is a dangerous brawler in his own right but this is a bad fight for him. These two fighters met at FFC 4 and Orvel scored a quick takedown and submitted Tavares. Maybe Tavares wanted the opportunity at a do-over and that's why he took this fight. Steve Orvel is your predictable Jiu-Jitsu practitioner that trains in wrestling and submits everybody.

-[Prediction]: Gotta go with history repeating itself on this one. Steve Orvel via first or second round (first round though) submission.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Daemon Targaryen (6-1)(1-1 FFC) versus Bork Laser (2-2)(1-1 FFC)

-[Preview]: Styles collide as the boxer Daemon Targaryen seeks redemption following his first career loss. He will be taking on the brown belt Jiu-Jitsu specialist Bork Laser. These two last met back on the QFC circuit where Daemon stopped Bork with an early blitz of punches to put him away. On the ground, Bork threatens with submissions and strikes but on his feet, he is a fish out of water.

-[Prediction]: Every fight starts on the feet... and that's where this one is going to end. Daemon Targaryen gets a tune-up victory here and restarts his climb towards the gold.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Kyle Babcock (13-8)(0-1 FFC) versus Ryoto Machida (7-8-1)(1-0 FFC)

-[Preview]: Kyle Babcock is a well rounded veteran of the sport. He has displayed incredible heart in fights such as with Jack Towns. Jack rocked him with heavy punches early on and although he would eventually succumb to a TKO loss in that fight, he managed to hang on and keep the fight going long before that happened. Kyle's grit and determination are hampered only by his skill level... he is univerally talented but he isn't particularly elite at any single thing. This leads to specialists dominating him in some way. Ryoto Machida is technically the superior fighter anywhere this fight goes. On the feet he enjoys a healthy advantage trading punches. On top of that, Ryoto has extremely well versed takedown defenses.

-[Prediction]: The game changer in this fight should be the clinch. If Babcock can bring it to Machida and clinch with him, he can finish him. Machida has only scored one clean KO of an evenly matched opponent on the feet but he does have the edge over Babcock. This one could go either way. Put them at it ten times and you might see them go 1:1.

-[Light-heavyweight Championship bout]: Gerald Garcia (2-2) versus Juan Mott (6-1)(1-0 FFC)

-[Preview]: Cherry Garcia, I mean Gerald Garcia, is a by-the-books slugger that also happens to be an extremely skilled wrestler as well. Despite the fact that he throws punches in bunches, his only stoppage has come due to his Jiu-Jitsu credentials. I labeled this man a catch wrestler due to the fact that his wrestling is at a higher level than his Jiu-Jitsu.

Juan Mott is a power puncher that can take it to you in the clinch and can take you down for a little ground-and-pound. He seems to favor dirty boxing but he will go move-for-move with you anywhere that the fight takes place. Any doubts that I had in regards to the legitimacy of Juan Mott were quickly and quietly laid to rest when he obliterated Holt McCoy in the clinch.

-[Prediction]: Juan Mott is going to play it smart and keep this fight standing at all costs. Gerald Garcia isn't afraid to trade punches but Mott will hold a huge advantage if he can keep himself at a distance.

-[A closer look]

Weight: 225 lbs
Career Highlights: Reigning Rio Grand Prix Light-Heavyweight Champion (Inactive), Former HERITAGE Title Contender, Fight of the Night (x2), KO of the Night (x3).

-[Middleweight Championship bout]: Grey Wolf (12-4)(1-0 FFC) versus Randall Flagg (5-3)

-[Preview]: The heavy handed brawler Grey Wolf makes his anxiously awaited return in this amazing striker match-up. This will be the first time that Grey Wolf takes on a superior stand-up fighter but as you know, with the punching power of Wolf you can never count him out. His back-to-back destructions of Andrzej Sternik stand as bold evidence of the kind of power that Grey Wolf brings to any fight. Andrzej is a solid stand-up fighter and he got literally put away by Wolf.

Randall Flagg is a newcomer to the division but he is the premiere power striker in the middleweight division. He uses his understanding of Muay Thai primarily for when the fight goes into the clinch. His dirty boxing is among the best in his class. However, at a distance he is more than happy going blow-for-blow like Tito's wife.

-[Prediction]: I think Grey Wolf is going to take it to him. He is going to threaten with takedowns and pepper Flagg on the feet not unlike a spicy grilled chicken meal. That's a food seasoning reference, deal with it.

-[A closer look]

(Grey Wolf)

Record: 12-4

Knockouts: 11

Submissions: 0

Style: Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Knockouts: 5

Submissions: 0

Height: 6'1

Career Highlights: Fight of the Night (x2), Former RISE title challenger.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Valentin Ralek (7-0)(2-0 FFC) versus Xavier Barbossa (6-1)(2-0 FFC)

-[Preview]: Valentin Ralek is a monster in the clinch. He is the last guy that you want pressing you up against the cage; his elbows are like a pair of twin daggers that he will use to open lacerations on your face until you're drowning in an ocean of your own blood and desperation. He battered Daemon Targaryen in the clinch to the point that the cageside doctors called off the match to prevent the first death by blood loss in MMA.

He will be taking on the man that has proven critics wrong in the past; Xavier Barbossa is seemingly one of the most successful underdogs in the promotion. He made Diego Sanchez look like it was his first time to the dance when they fought; Diego shot in with a one of his patented power doubles and ate an uppercut from hell in the process. Eighteen seconds is all it took for Barbossa to prove me wrong. His boxing is second to none in his weight class.

-[Prediction]: I don't think Ralek will be quick enough to get Barbossa in the clinch and I think he's going down in the same style of Sanchez. However, if Ralek gets the clinch established, I think Barbossa's lack of experience in that department will cost him.

-[A closer look]

(Valentin Ralek)

Record: 7-0

Knockouts: 7

Submissions: 0

Height: 6'5

Weight: 265 lbs
Career Highlights: All victories have come in the first round.

(Xavier Barbossa)

Career Highlights: All victories have come in the first round.

"The Dragon" Ryoto Machida

Tomorrow i will face a great opponent, Kyle Babcock. He's a veteran and the experience tells for itself. I see a great fight for Fight of the Night prize. I won't reveal my gameplan for tomorrow, but i promise that the winner of that match will be me. I see he's not good at boxing defense, but i will explore his skills for all the fight so i can win definitely.
