GH2: Snow vs Acid REVIEW

By Alika Webb

Last season on the island, a lighthouse was the sign of hope. A rival to the biggest organization on the island and a welcome alternative, open to all fighters looking for a home. Now a new season is upon us and new companies were founded among the resurrected organizations from the days of old. All try to set themselves apart as they vie for the attention of the island dwellers. Some try to advertise their fights with previews and the promise of rewards. Some aspire to greatness whilst they orchestrate their fights in front of an audience consisted of a mere 62 souls (seriously, that was hilarious!). Some trade the cage for a ring and abandon the ground game, focusing their attention purely on the striking aspect. One forgotten little lighthouse appears lost in the fold. Abruptly abandoned after last season, the lighthouse that was once a symbol of hope now appears withered and haunted. But appearances can be deceiving and once inside, you see that the symbol of hope is back in all its former glory. Under a new name but with the same management, Ghosthouse is the place to be for great fights on the island. Action and excitement guaranteed as the fighters go to war in a haunted setting that will send chills down your spine!

MAIN EVENT

205 weight class - Mike Snow (2-0) Vs Uncle Acid (0-1)

Mike "The Yeti" Snow had already shown his gifts inside the cage as he was sporting a 2-0 record from fighting on the independent MMA scene. A dominant grappler who likes to soften his opponents up with some vicious ground and pound before finishing them off with a merciful submission. He’s never been put to the test in the stand-up as his takedowns have been seemingly impossible to parry for his foes.

Standing in the way of Mike Snow’s perfect trifecta of wins to open up the new season on the island, is Uncle "The Deadbeat" Acid. A boxer who can stand and trade until it’s getting late. Uncle Acid made a big impact in his debut as he took submission specialist Edson Ribeiro to school in a one-sided beat down before falling victim to a lightning-quick submission, ending his debut with a sour note. Now he looked ready to avenge his loss as he took on another grappler.

The Yeti quickly took his opponent down to the ground and unleashed a snowstorm of punches on Uncle Acid until his soul left his body and all hope was lost. The referee dove in with little regard for his own life as he pried the yeti of his lifeless victim.

Winner: Mike Snow by TKO (strikes) after 4 minutes and 46 seconds in the first round.

CO-MAIN EVENT

170 weight class - Joao Vitor Xavier (1-0) Vs Joan Miz (1-0)

Two fighters that already walked away victorious once in their respective careers, clashed in the Ghosthouse cage. One person would see their undefeated streak come to an end, while the other would prosper from a big win and see their status elevated to the top.

Seven years the elder, heavy-handed brawler Joao Vitor Xavier blasted 18 year old Joan Miz with haymakers from start to fish. Joan Miz was pouring blood and seeing stars as his trademark Muay Thai clinch tactics proved ineffective against the boxer. Joao Vitor Xavier even took it a little further as he ruthlessly put his his opponent to shame by instigating a couple of close range exchanges. Dominant from start to finish, Joao Vitor Xavier just made the entire welterweight division take notice.

Winner: Joao Vitor Xavier by TKO (strikes) after 1 minute and 56 seconds in the second round.

265 weight class - Manny Warren (1-0) Vs Francis Lacaille (0-0)

A heavyweight collision where two rhinos went all out in a brawl that shook the cage to its foundations. With a five second knockout win on his resume, Manny Warren already put himself on the map but the path is long and it takes only one loss to fade away into oblivion. To stay relevant, winning is the only option. Untested and unafraid, Francis Lacaille fearlessly set foot into the cage against the monstrous death machine known as Manny "Chowder" Warren.

Francis Lacaille tested out the waters by carefully throwing some shots but Manny Warren answered with a storm of big clobbering blows. Francis Lacaille got lacerated by a glancing jab and like a bull seeing red he turned up the volume, throwing back some leather at Manny Warren. Warren, unfazed by his foe’s offence continued throwing bombs and traded with the crazed bull until a huge right hand briefly knocked Lacaille on his backside. When Lacaille got back up to his feet, Manny Warren went in for the kill and finished the fight with a perfectly timed overhand right.

Winner: Manny Warren by KO (punch) after 1 minute and 15 seconds in the first round.

185 weight class - Al Rush (0-0) Vs Denis Prager (1-0)

Denis Prager had already proven himself once as a competent grappler in his debut on the regional circuit but this time he faced dangerous striker Al "Run Away" Rush. Only in this case it was Denis Prager who should have been doing the running as Al Rush looked like he was doing target practice on a punching bag rather than trying to hit Denis Prager, who was on the lookout to close the distance.

Winner: Al Rush by TKO (strikes) after 1 minute and 51 seconds in the first round.

170 weight class - Wayne Carter (0-0) Vs Ivan Franjic (0-0)

Jack of all trades, Wayne "Weezy F" Carter showed his resourcefulness against dangerous submission expert Ivan Franjic. Ivan Franjic had a hard time closing the distance and Wayne Carter made him pay for every second he was on his feet, raining blows from all directions until Franjic didn’t know which way was up anymore. Ivan Franjic did manage to take the fight to the ground but Wayne Carter showed incredible defensive grappling skills. The referee pulled the fighters back to their feet and the slaughter continued. Ivan Franjic was seeing stars and a punch unseen turned off his lights, his unconscious body crashing face first on the canvas.

Winner: Wayne Carter by KO (punch) after 4 minutes and 38 seconds in the first round.

145 weight class - David Goode (0-0) Vs Jozef Klos (0-0)

Muay Thai fighter David "It's Not Looking" Goode came out blasting young grappler Jozef Klos. Klos was already bleeding from the first strike thrown and latched on to his assailant. Even from close range, David Goode kept on punishing the grappler until he dropped to his knees in defeat. The referee stepped in to prevent Klos from suffering any unnecessary damage.

Winner: David Goode by TKO (strikes) after 1 minute and 18 seconds in the first round.

170 weight class - Neil Nucombe (0-0) Vs Alexander Berg (0-0)

Another classic striker Vs grappler matchup as dangerous striker Neil "Knees Knocking" Nucombe took on wrestling standout Alexander Berg. Every match starts with the fighters on their feet and Neil Nucombe was able to keep it there as he successfully stopped Berg’s relentless takedown attempts and did a good job of making his opponent pay for them.

Winner: Neil Nucombe by TKO (strikes) after 2 minutes and 14 seconds in the first round.

170 weight class - Christopher Berg (0-0) Vs Taz Melodies (0-0)

Both fighters showed eagerness to take the fight to the ground which was surprising as Taz Melodies was breaking Christopher Berg apart in the clinch. But when Berg shot in with a beautiful takedown and Melodies’s back hit the mat, the difference in grappling skills was clear as daylight. Christopher Berg finished it off with a slick kimura submission.

Winner: Christopher Berg by submission (kimura) after 3 minutes and 51 seconds in the first round.

185 weight class - Kenzie Davidson (0-1) Vs Jonas Sulc (0-0)

Kenzie Davidson is a boxer with some grappling skills to boot but he’s already suffered from facing a grappler once. Now was his chance to redeem himself as he faced Czech grappler Jonas Sulc. Kenzie Davidson was throwing punches in bunches but he found no answer to Jonas Sulc’s dragging takedowns. When the fight hit the mat, Jonas Sulc made sure to make his opponent suffer with some dominant ground and pound but a come from behind win took the fans out of their seats as Kenzie Davidson made his opponent’s face turn purple in a tight guillotine choke.

Winner: Kenzie Davidson by submission (guillotine) after 2 minutes and 35 seconds in the third round.

145 weight class - Luiz Correia Azevedo (0-1) Vs Ignatius Thistlewhite (0-0)

Apparently grappling skills are like a good wine, it gets better when it ages. Luiz Correia Azevedo took the seven year younger grappler on a ride he’ll not soon forget. Transitioning from submission to submission until he struck gold and Thistlewhite was forced to tap.

Winner: Luiz Correia Azevedo by submission (armbar) after 1 minute and 34 seconds in the first round.
