Wold Vale Tudo Fight League 17

(Saturday 1st June 2019 – King Theatre, Los Angeles)

MAIN EVENT

***For the Vacant World Vale Tudo Fight League Open Weight Championship Bout***

(#1) Dai Zexi (15-4, 220lbs) vs. (#3) Fanta Coco (17-12, 230lbs)

So here it is folks. The moment we have been waiting for. After sixteen events held in both Los Angeles and Las Vegas, we have finally made our way down to the final two warriors who will attempt to be the first to hold the World Vale Tudo Fight League championship belt.

First up we have Dai Zexi. A Chinese light-heavyweight fighter known for his dangerous all round ground game. Zexi arrived late in the day here at WVT but with such hype and fanfare behind him, it was impossible to deny his #1 ranking after he defeated wily veteran Evgeni Lomachenko in his debut. Zexi was also already known to WVT management as a member of the now defunct IFC org. There Zexi got his start as a fresh faced youngster in the second New Blood Tournament where he was defeated in the final. He has come a long way from there with arguable his best efforts coming during his time at the Empire org in New York fighting much older, more experienced opponents. Zexi managed a 4-1 record there proving to us at least that he is absolutely championship material.

His opponent is another fighter known to us from his time over at IFC and that is Fanta Coco. Coco is a smallish Heavyweight hailing from Warszawa, Poland and he is known, in exciting contrast, for his stand up ability and anti-grappling skills. In fact, Coco has defeated three exceptionally dangerous grapplers to get to this point and has been in superb form following something of a dip in his fortunes previously. Rumour has it that Coco wasn’t entirely first in line for this shot and that it should have gone to John Braddock but as Braddock wasn’t answering the phone and no one had heard from him in a while, it was Coco who was given the call and he immediately accepted the challenge.

Going into the fight both are going to have some major advantages and disadvantages. Despite weighing around the same, Coco will tower over Zexi and while this will definitely help him stick and move at range, it might also mean Zexi finds it easier to get in underneath for a take down. On the floor is definitely where Zexi will want this fight and if he can, it will be very interesting to see how Coco does considering his success against previous opponents. The more time spent on the feet, the better Coco’s chances in this fight. Though he’ll likely be the underdog in this one, anything can happen in these kind of situations.

CO-MAIN EVENT

(#10) Evgeni Lomachenko (18-18-1, 144lbs) vs. (#16) Comeon Hitme (14-16, 215lbs)

Next up, two experienced veterans go at it when #10 Evgeni Lomachenko takes on #16 Comeon Hitme.

Lomachenko hasn’t been in the best of form lately having managed only one win and a draw in his last eight. Currently 1-1 since joining the league, his last fight was a disappointing first round loss to Dai Zexi in under a minute, a fight many thought would be a lot more competitive then it was. Still, Lomachenko currently still resides in the Top 20 Power Rankings and for a natural bantamweight that is impressive in itself.

His opponent Comeon Hitme has also seen something of a reversal of fortune recently after a good start to his time here has been marred with two losses in a row and both of them by finish. After such performances, Hitme will really be looking for a win otherwise he may find himself falling outside of the Top 20 and into the middle of the pack.

On paper this looks interesting enough though with both fighters being very similar, there is always the danger of them cancelling each other out. There is also the feeling that while both are extremely good at dishing it out, neither are the best at taking it. Hitme himself has a shockingly perfect record of KO’s in sixteen losses and Lomachenko also has suffered at least half during his time. With that in mind, both fighters must know that they will need to get the upper hand early on to stand the best chance of victory and neither will really want to end up fighting off of his back in this one.

(#8) Akamu Kalani (10-7, 240lbs) vs. Luke “Petersen” Mad Onion (7-2, 275lbs)

Currently #8 Akamu Kalani returns to the cage after suffering his first loss since arriving in the WVT. Now 1-1 here and 10-7 overall, he will welcome newcomer Luke Mad Onion who arrives with a 7-2 record. Though still relatively early in his career, Onion has already performed well wherever he has been and even earned a heavyweight title shot over at DSC which he unfortunately fell short.

Kalani will have the edge in experience here having been in the game a decent amount longer. Mad Onion is in good form however and has solid management. They will no doubt be aware of the step up in competition and have the confidence to do well. Onion arrived in the WVT as a well hyped and popular figure so a win here could well mean a high entry spot into the power rankings. Kalani will not want to be a stepping stone however and will want to get back to winning ways quickly. Being inside of the Top 10 is a big deal and he will not want to secede it to a newer fighter.

This one could be over quickly. Both big, heavy guys and both with perfect records of KO finishes. My advise is not to blink!

(#18) Lalama “Seal” Amana (16-12, 167lbs) vs. Francisco “The Count” Babyara (13-9, 270lbs)

A good first win over One Fortytwo upon arrival here at the WVTFL was enough for Lalama Amana to enter in on the Power Rankings at #18. Amana is yet another fighter known to us from his days at the IFC where he had his most successful period in the Lightweight division.

Amana takes on another IFC alumni Francisco Babyara who will be coming in on a two fight winning streak. Babyara is known for some impressive streaks so his fans will likely be wondering if this one can turn into something special? Perhaps even a run at the soon to be crowned Open Weight title.

Amana is predominately a striker but weighing over a hundred pounds less, it might not be the smartest plan to go toe to toe. Instead he may have to try to take advantage of Babyara’s disdain for grappling and look to win the fight on the ground. Not something that Amana has much knowledge of but really this is what the fight game comes down to and to win fights, you need to be able to adapt your game plan. If he does decide to test the striking skills of Babyara, it’s likely that he only adds to his opponents perfect record of KO to win ratio

William “The Prince” Fidnhasieunch (21-14, 143lbs) vs. Brock Steve (10-3, 146lbs)

Fidnhasiench has really struggled with the open weight format of the WVTFL and despite being a competent grappler, hasn’t really been able to get going lately. Tonight however he’ll face similar sized competition in the form of Brock Steve. Steve has just had a little of the wind taking out of his sails after suffering his first loss after three straight wins here. The loss was enough to drop Steve outside of the Top 20 and that might be some big motivation coming into this one.

Steve a superb striker and well rounded overall. He will have a massive advantage on the feet and Fidnhasieunch will once again need to avoid standing toe to toe like the plague. On the ground things become a lot more competitive looking and you would probably favour “The Prince” to look the most comfortable but if Steve is determined to keep this fight standing, it might be another sore head for Fidnhasieunch in the morning.

(#17) Kabala “The Wizard” Magaluff (7-2, 194lbs) vs. Paul “The Future” Sight (9-10, 192lbs)

Kabala Magaluff is currently a fighter on the rise. After four straight victories “The Wizard” finally arrives in the Top 20 at #17 and gathers more eyes upon him with each passing fight. Tonight he’ll take a step up in competition when he takes on Paul “The Future” Sight who despite not being in the best of form, will definitely pose some interesting problems for the Isreali fighter.

Sight is better all round on the feet which is where we expect to see him attempt to keep the fight. Magaluff on the other hand has his best success on the ground and with a sizable advantage in the wrestling you would probably expect to see him shoot early for the take down.

A big test for Magaluff that should give us more of a complete picture as to whether he is the real deal or not while Sight really could do with a win to improve his deteriorating moral.

Vinnie Sixx (7-13, 255lbs) vs. Trevor Fitch (2-0, 220lbs)

Vinnie Sixx returns to the cafe fresh from spoiling previous opponent Devin Watkins going away party. It was Sixx’s best performance since arriving here and also his first win. Tonight he’ll get another crack at getting his hand raised when he takes on young grappler Trevor Fitch. Though Fitch has done well so far in his young career this one will definitely be a good few steps above what he has come across so far and really he’ll do well to look at is as a learning experience.

Sixx will be the heavy favourite without question.

Oscar “Bologna” Meyer (7-10, 270lbs) vs. Johnny Walker (10-9, 170lbs)

Oscar Meyer continues to falter after his debut win here and has now gone three fights without a win. A bruising striker with a complete disregard for anything other than stand up, his opponents of late have chosen to exploit that weakness and now Meyer will need to either step up the aggression or begin the unfathomable which is actually begin to step foot on the wrestling and BJJ mats.

Facing him will be natural lightweight Johnny Walker who is also not in the best of form currently. Posting a draw and two losses so far, Walker will be giving up 100lbs in this one in his quest to cork the leak of bad performances.

On paper Walker would likely have the ability to trade with Meyer but with such a difference in weight we might see him following the blue print set before and an attempt to get the bigger man down to the ground. One thing for sure though is that if Meyer connects before he could do that, it’s likely to be lights out for the Australian fighter.

Petr “The Bee” Kotrc (5-13, 134lbs) vs. Magnus “Russian Destroyer” Fjeld (15-19, 343lbs)

Czech journeyman Petr Kotrc returns to the cage and he’ll be taking on massive Russian mountain Magnus Fjeld.

With a record of 1-3 since arriving here, it could be argued that Kotrc has performed beyond expectations though in truth he currently languishes near the bottom of the entire roster. Tonight he has a big opportunity to prove he is more than cannon fodder for the up and comers if he can somehow defeat Fjeld.

Fjeld himself has been slightly underwhelming since his arrival despite painting quite a fearsome first impression. Three losses followed his debut win with his last being quite possibly his worst performance yet when he lost to the extremely green Mohhamad Iman by first round submission. After such a result, Fjeld will no doubt have only redemption on his mind.

Fjeld might normally be considered the favourite going into this but on current form only the result could really be considered a crap shoot. Not much separates them skill wise but Fjeld will have over 200lbs on Kotrc. This will be extremely interesting to see play out.

Rustam “Eagle” Shakhbulatov (17-10, 170lbs) vs. “The Poet” Phillip Baroni (7-7-2, 199lbs)

A new signing for the WVTFL is BJJ Brown Belt Rustam Shakhbulatov. Shakhbulatov is a former lightweight champion over at what is now know as Empire and he was able to achieve that feat in only his forth professional fight. In his day Shakhbulatov was a fearsome submission hunting machine and though it’s true that the second half of his career hasn’t been quite as glitzy as the first and that some believe that, at 34 years of age, his best year are behind him, Shakhbulatov has been willing to start all over again and will be coming into this fight on a four fight win streak most of which took place in the QFC wild lands.

He’ll be taking on New York native Phillip Baroni who after a spate of stalemate draws, finds himself riding a two fight streak. Both of those fights were finished in impressive fashion with KO’s over Ignatius Thistlewhite and Chad Yonic. Now sitting comfortably just outside of the Top 20 Power Rankings, Baroni is poised and ready to launch himself in among the big boys of the org.

Something of a grappler versus striker match up though neither fighter is a novice in any area. What makes this fight interesting is the fact that both have a very similar level of wrestling and that will be the key to this whole fight.

Wold Vale Tudo Fight League 18

(Saturday 8th June 2019 – King Theatre, Los Angeles)

Main Event

(#6) Maxxy Baby (27-12, 153lbs) vs. (NR) Farley Steve (25-3, 210lbs)

Natural featherweight Maxxy Baby welcomes the newest signing to the WVTFL, Farley Steve and by God does he have his work cut out for him.

Farley Steve is a former champion in Russia and a one time light-heavyweight challenger over at Empire in New York. He comes in with an impressive 25-3 record and a massive fan following. Currently unbeaten in four fights, his only loss in his last 10 was to current Empire Champion Pekka Toivonen.

Baby has certainly been up and down since joining up with his new manager and with alternating losses and wins, he hasn’t really been able to get any momemtum going either here or his previous org. Still, despite his results he remains a fairly well hyped fighter and will certainly have a lot to gain if he can somehow overcome the almost 60lb advantage this opponent holds. Sources close to his camp have informed us that Baby has been pounding spam burgers in an effort to pack on some bulk and add some power to those punches of his.

He will definitely need it as Steve isn’t known for having a weak chin and to crack it, it will take something special indeed. In return, Baby will look forward to contending with a perfect 100% record of KO’s in Steve’s 25 wins to date.

Baby has just moved up to #6 in the rankings and he will not want to be moved from easily while a win for Steve guarantees a high entry into the next Power Ranking release.

A tough fight for Baby who will not be able to follow his usual game plan. Steve the favourite and this will be reflected in the odds.

Co-Main Event

(#4) Jack Dawson (17-11, 270lbs) vs. (#2) John “The Hooligan” Braddock (20-5, 285lbs)

A big moment for “The Hunk” Jack Dawson as he prepares for what is very likely a number one contender fight for the newly crowned World Vale Tudo Fight League championship. Dawson has looked phenomenal since arriving here and currently rides a four fight win streak all by devastating first round TKO’s or submissions. In fact, he has looked so impressive that a few voices have questioned why Dawson wasn’t given the first crack at the title. The powers that be must have their reasons however and for now, Dawson must contend with this final obstacle if he is to earn his first shot at a title.

For his opponent John Braddock, this is not his first time at a contender showdown or even a title for that matter. Himself, a three time former heavyweight champion in several different orgs, Braddock was once one of the most dominant heavyweight champions in his ID range and it was public knowledge that when he arrived here, he was fully expected to be a big player in the title picture straight away. An upset loss to Comeon Hitme in his second fight here sent him packing to the back of the line however and Braddock has had to work his way back. But that is exactly what he has done and now, with two big wins behind him, Braddock too prepares to earn himself a shot at championship gold.

Both of these fighters are very big men though Dawson will be somewhat shorter than Braddock. Dawson is no slouch on his feet but Braddock absolutely excels going toe to toe and I’m not sure anyone would bet on Dawson’s chin holding out for too long. Dawson has shown a competent and developing ground game however and this could be where we see him aim to take the fight as Braddock has been shown up on a few occasions in that area. Braddock still maintains a perfect record of KO’s in his victories and with only five losses to his name, he will likely be coming into this fight as a decent favourite despite Dawson’s impressive form.

Whoever does manage to get their arm raised here and earn a shot, one thing that cannot be questioned is that it was certainly earned the hard way and either one of these warriors would make an exceptional challenger and perhaps even a future champion.

(#10) Hijack “Smash” Dabutt (9-5, 275lbs) vs. (NR) “The Real Deal” Stojan Kostic (11-3, 173lbs)

Hijack Dabutt returns after a very tough debut fight against Mitsugu Takeishi in which he was TKO’d in just over a minute of the first round. Not the best start for the former LoL tournament fighter in his new home and especially considering it was the first bout under new management but it certainly must be acknowledged the level of competition faced on first encounter.

Tonight he’ll get the opportunity to be open the doors to newcomer Stojan Kostic, an ex island fighter who himself will be fighting for the first time under new management. Kostic took the Island by storm early on by going undefeated in twelve fights and capturing the IFA welterweight title in the process. Lately however his form has dipped and Kostic comes into the WVTFL on a three fight losing streak and looking to revitalise his career once more.

Kostic is a submission machine and will be a real danger on the ground despite Dabutt’s solid ground game himself. Dabutt in turn is a KO machine and with over one-hundred pounds in weight on Kostic, anything that lands is going to be felt around the arena. The big question is whether Kostic can get the big man on his back and then keep him there. If he can, he stands a good chance of getting his hand raised in his first outing here.

(#13) Chief “Little” Foot (11-8, 275lbs) vs. (#18) Ake “Sumozilla” Bono (6-0, 300lbs)

A massive test tonight for the undefeated “Sumozilla” Ake Bono as he takes on heavyweight striker and current #11 Chief Foot.

Foot has been impressive for the most part since arriving here and has managed a 3-1 record so far with his only loss coming from current #2 Mitsugu Takeishi. His most recent bout was a superb second round TKO win over former Top 10 Hamish McTavish. Foot showed incredible resilience in that one to come through the first round after getting taken down and rocked on the ground.

Tonight he’ll face Ake Bono who has just managed to break into the Top 20 at #17 after a string of victories over the lower and mid roster fighters. Currently 6-0, Bono has not only defeated everyone put in front of him but has also managed to finish them by submission. Now he faces he biggest challenge to date as he takes on a much more experienced opponent.

Chief Foot has been around a lot longer than Bono and will have a big advantage in training time and experience. Anywhere else, match up’s like these would usually be considered unfair but with Bono’s current form and recent performances, there really isn’t any other option for him but to take a step up and see just what he is made off.

There is really only one way this fight is going to go. Either Bono gets the take down or he doesn’t and depending on which is how much his chances go up or down. Foot has so far shown big power in his stand up and has taken out some big opponents. Bono does not have the skills to match him there. Bono needs this fight on the ground at all cost.

Can he do it or is this just a step too far for the MMA newcomer?

Inspektor Dee (5-3, 245lbs) vs. (#14) Paea Talanoa (12-7, 280lbs)

Having had things his own way over at TAFC for most part of the year, Inspektor Dee suffered his first loss in six fights during his WVTFL debut to Carlos Ruas. Now, in his return, he faces another extremely tough match up this time to grappler Paea Talanoa

Talanoa has only just come off of a loss to Dee’s stable mate Fanta Coco and this could be playing on his mind as he goes into this one.

Despite Dee’s Brown belt in BJJ, he will still be a good few steps behind on the ground as Talanoa is one of those rare breed with a Red belt. A strong submission game obviously follows with Talanoa posting an above 90% finish rate in his victories. Still, if Dee can follow the blueprint left by his teammate Coco he stands a good chance of navigating this tricky heavyweight submission master. If not, expect Talanoa to take improve on his current placing of #9 in the Power Rankings.

(#8) Anthony “The Animal” Griffith (15-10, 265lbs) vs. (NR) Ickey “Who Dey” Woods (14-10, 124lbs)

By this time the vacant WVTFL championship will have been crowned and Anthony Griffith no doubt pondering what could have been should he had defeated John Braddock in a number one contender match up previously. The fight started fast and brutal with both fighters leaving their marks on each other but as the round wore on it was Braddock’s heavy shots that started to have the bigger effect. Close to the end of the first, Griffith was TKO’d by a punch and knee combo and with it, his shot at the gold.

Now on a rebuilding mission, he takes on natural strawweight fighter Ickey Woods who returns after a hard fought decision loss to Boss Yonic. Previous to that, Woods had a KO victory in his org debut.

Neither fighter is a novice in any area but definitely they have their preferences and favoured skills. The biggest factor in this fight will be the massive weight difference between them. Griffith will tower over Woods and have some 140lbs on him meaning it would be fairly foolish to attempt to stand toe to toe if you were Woods. However, if Wood’s can use his speed advantage to good effect and get “The Animal” on the ground, he has a great shot at picking up a big win over a current Top 10 ranked WVTFL fighter

Greg “The Gronk” Bell (15-22, 300lbs) vs. Orc Mismash (9-11, 310lbs)

An exciting match up between two massive super heavyweight fighters.

Greg Bell will have the edge in experience and time in the game while Mismash has probably the better all round skill set. Mismash has a good record of KO’s to his name which might concern Bell’s supporters considering his granite chin hasn’t been so granite for quite sometime now however, Mismash himself has been quite prone in that area also and so we might see Bell try to get him down and unleashes some ground and pound.

Richie Fortune (7-5, 220lbs) vs. “I Weigh” One Fortytwo (10-16, 142lbs)

Making his WVTFL debut is Richie Fortune, a natural light-heavyweight from Manchester, England. This will be Fortunes forth change of management prompting rumours that he is difficult to work with.

He’ll be taking on One Fortytwo who has really struggled since arriving here and is still looking to pick up his first win after three fights.

Likely to be a stand up fight, Fortytwo will need to be at his very best if he is to overcome almost 80lbs in weight difference and Fortunes current perfect record of KO’s to victories.

Ignatius Thistlewhite (11-17, 152lbs) vs. “The” Chad Yonic (4-2, 160lbs)

Thistlewhite returns after picking up his first victory in four fights since arriviing here and he’ll be taking on Chad Yonic who in turn has just suffered his first loss after an impressive start.

Thistlewhite the more experienced fighter and arguably the better stand up, Yonic the better ground fighter and younger hungry up and comer.

This should be a real war and definitely a fight to watch out for.

Michael MP (9-11, 274lbs) vs. Johnny “Rotten” Lydon (8-10, 205lbs)

With a dismal run of form now seemingly behind him, Michael MP returns to the cage on a two fight win steak and meets Johnny Lydon who made a successful debut in his new home and under new management.

In nine victories, MP has managed nine KO’s and will no doubt be looking to continue this trend in this one. Most of these have come from the ground however.

Totally sucks that after dawson wins and goes 5-0 he cant cash in his title opportunity any time soon.

Keep his belt nice and shiny though because he will be coming for it

Looks like jack will be cashing in on his title opportunity. Whoever the champ may be, be warned: you're next!

Wold Vale Tudo Fight League 19
(Friday 14th June 2019 – Hyashi’s Lounge, Los Angeles)
MAIN EVENT
Dominique “Alligator” Bell (22-17, 139lbs) vs. Niko Marcell (14-4, 274lbs)
Two fighters both coming in after picking up wins in their previous bouts, submission wrestler Dominique Bell takes on 14-4 Niko Marcell.
As is usually the case for Bell, he will be the much smaller fighter and on this occasion will be giving up around 140lbs of weight. Marcell himself is predominantly a ground fighter and has defeated most of his opponents with serious ground and pound. Bell might be thankful that Marcell is unlikely to want to strike on on the feet but he will still need to be extremely cautious not to be caught playing guard from the bottom. Bell has skills in that department no doubt but against a heavyweight Purple Belt with solid control and striking on the ground, probably a much safer path to try and keep top control.
A win for either could potentially thrust them into the Top 20 Power Rankings so there is definitely more on the line here than just a typical bout
CO-MAIN EVENT
(#11) Boss Yonic (20-13, 185lbs) vs. Raycon “The Tolltaker” Figg (9-8, 289lbs)
Current #11 Boss Yonic looks to keep on climbing the rankings, perhaps with an eye on the championship gold. An accolade that has yet alluded him in his thirty-three fight professional career. A solid decision win behind him in his organisational debut, Yonic will now play welcome party to super-heavyweight all rounder Raycon Figg. Figg has fought all over the world gaining valuable experience of which he now brings to his new home here at the WVTFL.
Yonic has worked hard to develop a solid stand up game and that will serve him well against the much heavier Figg. Figg will still have a slight advantage in that area and will probably look to do the bulk of his damage there. The ground is where Yonic is likely to shine and if he can bring the fight there we would expect to see him either pick up a submission victory or more likely a decision win.
Gosha Lopez (11-6, 135lbs) vs. King Murhaa (9-9-1, 210lbs)
A competitive looking match up next though with a very large weight difference. Usually having quite an advantage on the ground is natural straw weight Gosha Lopez but on this occasion, his opponent King Murhaa can not only match him but will also have a very slight advantage in the wrestling.
Murhaa has looked a little chinny of late though if Lopez was thinking the same thing, the idea of a 135lb fighter KO’ing a natural light-heavyweight might be a little far fetched. More than likely we are going to see something of a ground battle.
Jan “Champion” Jedrzejczyk (13-14, 147lbs) vs. Max “And” Paddy (13-16, 170lbs)
Polish featherweight Jan Jedrzejczyk managed to pick up his first win since joining up with the WVTFL last time out with a first round TKO over Crack Head. He’ll have an opportunity to heap some misery on Max Paddy who is still searching for his first win after two attempts since joining.
Paddy has a more dangerous ground game and a decent number of submission wins to his name. The ground is definitely a place Jedrzejczyk will want to avoid and on this occasion, with only 20 or so pounds separating them, Jedrzejczyk will have a good shot at adding to his 84% record of KO victories.
“Gyilkos Mokusok” Altintop Palonesess (9-20, 154lbs) vs. “S.H.I.G” Combato Bot One (3-2, 300lbs)
With revenge successfully achieved after defeating Umberto Grena in his last bout, Altintop Palonesess is now set to take on 300lb weirdo Combato Bot One. Bot One, now two wins into his WVTFL career, could take a step out of the lower ranks of the WVT roster if he can pick up another victory tonight.
Palonesess is competent in all areas and is willing to go where the fight takes it. Bot One has been developing a bit of a reputation as a submission fighter. It will be interesting to see how the experienced journeyman approaches this 300lb youngster and whether he will look to stick and move rather than engage on the ground
Lukasz “Cichy” Patryk (9-22, 208lbs) vs. Umberto “Gorro” Grena (14-23, 169lbs)
With his previous win, Polish fighter Lukasz Patryk brings his WVT record to 2-2 and tonight gets a chance to bring that into the positive as he takes on out of form Umberto Grena. Grena, now on a three fight losing streak with his most recent loss coming by way of previously defeated Altintop Palonesess, is in dire need of a win if he is to avoid falling into the very bottom 10 of the WVT.
Patryk has arguably better stand up with a decent weight advantage behind him. He is currently the more in-form fighter and will definitely be coming in as the favourite though he would be foolish indeed to completely overlook Grena at this point.
Crack Head “Roks” (14-19, 153lbs) vs. Victor “Malas Noticias” Mordino (6-16, 180lbs)
Crack Head has been active since arriving at the WVTFL though not particularly successful thus far. His last three fights have all ended by first round TKO and some believe that it may be time for “Roks” to hang them up.
Regardless, he’ll take to the cage tonight to face Victor Mordino who is also in pretty poor form currently. Riding a four fight losing streak, two of which since joining the WVT. Mordino needs a win even more than his opponent tonight.
Head has a decent submission game when he is on form but tonight he’d do well to change things up and try to win on the feet. Mordino is weaker there and has a higher level of jiu-jitsu so would likely welcome a head to head on the ground.
A tough fight to predict but Mordino is still managing to keep somewhat motivated and that might just count for a lot.
Jack “The Joker” Holloway (2-1, 184lbs) vs. Petr “The Bee” Kotrc (5-14, 134lbs)
Newcomer Jack Holloway joins as after a 2-1 stint in the QFC ranks. Holloway has only really just gotten into MMA at the age of 25 and so still has a lot of learning to do.
Aiming to teach him a thing or two tonight is Czech journeyman Petr Kotrc, a game all rounder who will take on all comers. Kotrc hasn’t managed much of a record since joining though he has made sure to keep active. A 4-1 and 5-14 he will provide a good test for his opponent tonight.
All things considered, both parties are pretty evenly matched skill wise with only Holloway’s weight advantage and Kotrc’s vast experience standing out as major factors.
The bookies oopen with Holloway as a slight favourite.
Marcus “The Slugger” Harris (9-9, 162lbs) vs. Perdue “The Spider” Willshire (5-15, 142lbs)
Another debut tonight as Marcus Harris makes his first appearance in the WVTFL cage. He’ll be taking on flyweight journeyman Perdue Willshire who is still searching for his first win in four fights since arriving.
Both fighters fairly experienced at this point though Willshire has been around the game a bit longer. In fact it’s actually quite impressive the amount of fight experience Harris has already since getting started. Both fighters fairly equal though Willshire looks to have a razor thin edge in the clinch. Harris is in the better form currently though so it’ll be a tough for betting enthusiasts to get this right.
Oleg “Easy E” Liguy (10-14, 185lbs) vs. Paul “The Future” Sight (9-11, 192lbs)
Looking over Oleg Liguy’s record, he has fought some very tough competition and you could somewhat forgive a not so impressive 1-4 record since arriving. With half of those losses coming by way of decision Liguy is definitely not a man to be easily brushed aside.
His opponent Paul Sight has managed to lose his winning record since arriving here after three losses in a row put him at 9-11. Again, some tough fights have come Sight’s way including current number one contender challenger Jack Dawson and current #17 Kabala Magaluff most recently.
Another tough fight to predict as both fighters are in similar form with similar records and both have around the same percentage of KO victories (80% for Liguy, 88% for Sight) although Liguy’s have come from ground and pound while Sight’s have come occurred whilst standing.
A very difficult one to pick a winner.

Wold Vale Tudo Fight League 20

(Friday 15h June 2019 – Hard Knocks, Los Angeles)

MAIN EVENT

(#3) Mitsugu Takeishi (11-1, 334lbs) vs. (#17) Fletch “Skeeter” Brandis (18-9, 235lbs)

Japanese Sumo star Mitsugu Takeishi’s transition to MMA has so far been nothing short of sensational and rumour has it, that depending on tonight's performance, a title shot could be in the works for him. Of course there would be some that say that he is not ready for such a challenge and on that they might well have a point. At 25 years of age, Takeishi was a relative latecomer to MMA and has only been in the game a short while. Though he has had great success so far, there are obvious holes in his game still and at 27 years old you would have to ask how much can he possibly learn in such a short time? With that in mind, you cannot ignore results and so far Takeishi has demolished everyone put in front of him. With only one decision loss in 12 professional fights and three straight wins in a row since arriving here at the WVTFL, another solid victory on his record would surely make him an extremely worthy contender?

Facing the behemoth super-heavyweight is former title prospect himself, Fletch Brandis who has returned to the WVT under different management. With already one win under his belt since that time, Brandis is looking to set about rebuilding the reputation that he arrived with first time around and there would be absolutely no better way to do that then by beating rising star Mitsugu Takeishi. A scrappy brawler from Los Angeles, California, Brandis definitely has the punching power to give Takeishi concern but whether he can put it altogether on the night, well that is what we are here to see.

Takeishi doesn’t mess around in the cage with many of his 11 wins coming inside of the first round. Brandis must know that and be prepared for the onslaught. Takeishi’s weight and wrestling is definitely going to be a huge advantage in the clinch and Brandis would do well to avoid getting tied up at all cost. Though not known for much of a ground game, Brandis does have at least one win by submission and would have bar far his biggest advantage in that area. Of course, the fans would love to see these two prolific knockout artists stand toe to toe but many believe that would only serve to benefit one fighter in this match up.

A tremendous match up and a must see.

CO-MAIN EVENT

(#9) Evgeni Lomachenko (19-18-1, 144lbs) vs. (#15) Lalama “Seal” Amana (17-12, 167lbs)

Two wins out of three for Russian veteran Evgeni Lomachenko who is coming in off a good first round win over Comeon Hitme who had started well in the WVT but trailed off lately. Lomachenko does have that loss to current champion Dai Zexi two fights ago and at rank #7 will no doubt be looking to climb the mountain to get to him.

He’ll first have to go through #12 Lalama Amana however and he is good form currently and undefeated in two fights since arriving.

Despite having an ok stand up game, Lomachenko rarely seems to want to strike other than to set up for a take down. Amana is fairly well rounded and has just recently picked up a submission win so the ground is definitely an area he has some expertise in. Generally though, Amana likes to use his exceptional boxing skills to get the job done making for an interesting conflict of styles in this one. Both fighters extremely experienced and without too much weight separating them, it should be an entertaining co-main event.

FIGHT 8

Ananada “BrokeDick” Bunyasarn (13-4, 191lbs) vs. (#9) Carlos “Pitbull” Ruas (13-7, 280lbs)

Making his WVTFL debut tonight is Thailand’s Ananda Bunyasarn who brings with him both a solid record and reputation. Bunyasarn is probably most well known for reaching the final of the EMPIRE Openweight Tournament. Following that loss to David Paddington, Bunyasarn found himself a new camp and has gone 3-1 since that time in the recently shut down TAFC in Sydney and now makes his way to a new place to call home.

He’ll get his start against super-heavyweight BJJ Brown Belt Carlos “Pitbull” Ruas who has already picked up two big wins in a row here defeating both Diyorbek Nurudinov and Inspektor Dee by submission. Those victories have given his stock a fairly big push and currently Ruas sits at the #9 in the Power Rankings. Another big win tonight would surely put him within sight of a title shot?

Bunyasarn is not a small man by any stretch but he will be giving up almost one-hundred pounds to Ruas tonight so we would be extremely surprised to see a KO from him in his first appearance. Thankfully for him, Ruas is more interested in the ground and while being on the ground with the far superior grappler would be of one concern, at least he isn’t expecting to have to deal with a raging 280lbs beast on the feet. Bunyasarn’s most obvious path is to wear the big man down over three rounds, avoid the attempts at taking the fight to the ground and hope to win the judges decision. Not an easy feat against the popular Brazillian at all.

FIGHT 7

(#20) Akamu Kalani (10-8, 240lbs) vs. (#18) Kabala “The Wizard” Magaluff (8-2, 194lbs)

A couple of tough losses in a row have dropped Akuma Kalani down to #19 in the rankings at the time of writing and likely outside altogether by the time of the fight. Kalani started off well in his debut but really does need to get a win if he wants to remain a main card fighter.

He faces a fighter that has battled his way up from the almost the bottom of the roster into his org best rank of #17, Kabala Magaluff. Magaluff has been facing tougher and tougher competition and so far has managed to defeat all of them bringing his overall record to 8-2. Now currently on five wins in a row, Magaluff is building momentum with each win and definitely starting to garner more attention. Tonight he’ll hope to climb even further with a win over Kalani.

FIGHT 6

(#20) Francisco “The Count” Babyara (13-10, 270lbs) vs. Hamish “The Pig” McTavish (14-12, 292lbs)

Definitely not a fighter you want to blink to often when watching is heavyweight kickboxer Fancisco “The Count” Babyara. Currently hanging on in the rankings at #20, Babyara comes into the fight off the back of a quick submission loss to Lalama Amana. Not that Babyara seems to care as he is reportedly is great spirits and just eager to get back into the cage and throw down.

He’ll be facing former WVTFL #4 Hamish McTavish who has managed to drop out of the rankings completely following the combination of two big losses and other well ranked fighters joining the org. McTavish was looking decidedly like a title contender in the very early stages of the org and it’ll be interesting to see whether he can make a return going forward.

This one is expected to end quickly and brutally with both fighters being kryptonite for the other. McTavish, though sometimes critised as something of a one trick pony, is probably the more well rounded of the two and just might fancy his chances of climbing back into the Top 20 at Babyara’s expense.

FIGHT 5

Yen “Funky” Askren (13-14, 185lbs) vs. (#14) Rustam “Eagle” Shakhbulatov (18-10, 170lbs)

For some reason, Yen Askren has found it a little tough to find opponents of late with a couple of potential names declining to meet him. Perhaps “Funky”s all round game has them worried?

Currently 2-1 since arriving, Askren comes into the fight off of a good win over King Murhaa at WVT13.

One fighter who did not shy away from the fight is Russian grappler Rustam Shakhbulatov who is fresh off of a successful debut win in his last fight. There he beat Phillip Baroni by decision and that was enough to put him at #14 in the rankings.

An opportunity for Askren to take a step closer to the Top 20 with a win and perhaps even crack it with an extra impressive performance. It won’t be easy however as Shakhbulatov is in terrific form right now and currently riding a fight fight win streak.

Shakhbulatov has a dangerous ground game but Askren might just have the wrestling ability to nulify his take down attempts. If he can manage to keep his feet he would have an excellent chance for victory though Shakhbulatov is not in novice in that area either.

FIGHT 4

Bon Adrien De Moncey (4-2, 184lbs) vs. Jimmy “The Wall” Fothergill (5-1, 260lbs)

Not a bad run so far for Bon Adrien De Moncey but at only 23 years of age expectations will start to demand more than a 2-1 run against lower roster fighters.

His opponent tonight is the heavy metal drummer by day (or night really as he usually plays at night) and MMA fighter by...er..night as well. So far things have been going well for Forthergill much to his bandmates dismay. Rumour has it, Fothergill’s commitment to the gym of late has been holding up his band’s first tour of the UK midlands but he will not deterred from his path.

A definite test for both fighters tonight as each will present certain problems for their opponent. Both still a little green at this point but both with potential. A tough fight to pick

FIGHT 3

Shawn Griffin (13-15, 168lbs) vs. Cyrius “The Snake” Python (12-12, 167lbs)

Next up, two welterweight journeyman fighters meet for the first time with an opportunity to turn around their poor form of late.

Shawn Griffin has struggled a little since his first debut win and has lost his last three after a step up in competition.

Cyrius Python too has dropped off of late after a nice little two fight streak ended when he ran into now Top 20 fighters Ake Bono and Marcin Vanna.

Python is definitely the more advanced fighter of the two but Griffin’s wrestling might just be the great equaliser in this.

FIGHT 2

Spas “The Hammer” Spasov (7-10-1, 159lbs) vs. “Mighty Mo” Mohhamad Iman (5-1, 225lbs)

Spas Spasov picked up his first win over young grappler Mike Hagger last time out and tonight will face a similar challenge in Mohhamad Iman.

Iman is fresh off of a shock win over the vastly more experienced Magnus Fjeld and is still sitting just outside of the Top 20 waiting for his chance to break through.

Iman will likely be the favourite even though once again his opponent has been around the game for a lot longer. Spasov does have a strong boxing style though which could cause problems for Iman if he is unable to get this fight to the floor.

FIGHT 1

Tony “The Tank” Anderson (5-1-1, 160lbs) vs. Maciej “Highlander” Gorski (7-22, 156lbs)

A tough debut loss to a very in-form Ake Bono wasn’t likely the start that Tony Anderson wanted for himself when joining the WVTFL but tonight he’ll get an opportunity to redeem himself when he takes on Polish journeyman Maciej Gorski.

Gorski isn’t without a win since arriving here four fights ago but at 1-3 they aren’t exactly coming thick and fast. Gorski would no doubt love to pick up a win at his less experienced opponents expense.

Gorski is somewhat comfortable in any range but the advantage he’ll have on the feet should mean we see him try to use his superior striking skills to finish Anderson before he ends up on the floor and dealing with Anderson’s vastly better wrestling skills.
