Revival of HW Boxing

I was a huge fan of Boxing, especially HW boxing up until around the time that the Klitschko brothers appeared on the scene. HW boxing was already in a bit of a slump when they popped up and i think they killed it, mostly because they were 2 very bland characters, the spent most of their career fighting in Europe (namely Germany), cherry picking most of their fights, they were terrible at promoting their fights, especially outside of Europe and their boring style of fight made things worse. I know the lower divisions were slightly better, but i was never a massive fan of light weight's.

Things started to change when Tyson Fury won the fight against Waldimir. Now the division is was more interesting with Joshua, Ruiz, Fury, Wilder. The Joshua vs Waldimir, Fury vs Wilder, Wilder vs Ortiz, Joshua v Ruiz are probably the best HW fights i have seen in the past 15-20 years. Obviously the HW division is nowhere near what it used to be in the 90s, 80s or 70s, but at least there is some hope now. I even heard that a couple of youtubers earned 150m fighting each other and we also have the bare naked boxing becoming more popular as well, so it seems boxing in general has had a revival.

What do you think?

I have personally enjoyed watching it more recently, even though I think right now Tyson Fury is doing the same thing as the Klitschkos did , I mean why would he pick Otto Wallin as an opponent, that's cherry picking at it's finest. Even though I have to say the fight was better than I expected.

I think Joshua and Ruiz attracted a lot of attention to boxing with the first fight , heard people talk about it who weren't even interested in boxing before so if they give us a good fight in December that would help a lot to gain some attention to boxing again and get more people interested.

About the YouTubers you mentioned , well they'll have a rematch in Novemeber which will gain some attention because they have around 20 million subscribers I think. And even though I at first didn't like the idea of it a lot, it makes sense, most of the viewers probably have never watched a boxing match before and that's the only way they could get interested in it.

I am not sure Otto Wallin was a cherry picking fight, sure he is not a big name, however all the bigger names were already tied up. Also, how it proved Otto was a pretty decent fighter, god a good chin, heart and has a lot of size at 6'6. Also Tyson wanted to stay active before fighting Wilder. If anything, i would say Wilder is cherry picking.

I think the HW division is going to get even better, i think Daniel Dubois is a really good young prospect, 14-0, just won the British HW title. Also Tyrone Spong (a guy i watched in K-1, high level fighter) is doing pretty well, he will be fighting against Oleksandr Usyk who has just moved up to HW, he was a Unified champ at Cruiser-weight and he is also an Olympic gold medalist (he was the gold medalist at HW).

So, all in all the HW division is looking pretty good.
