Role of MT in clinch???

Recommended Posts

Everybody knows wrestling is the primary factor for clinch control. You need MT for off/def elbows + knees. But I always thought MT gives fair degree of clinch control, as well. But I'm starting to wonder if MT gives any control at all? Also, it should give a lot of striking offense and defense in the clinch, but I don't see much of that. Position seems to trump that effect big time.

Muay thai should enable knees and elbows from the clinch which would have a cascade effect in the game - strikers who have only punches wouldn't be so safe in the clinch against grapplers. Punching in the clinch is pretty stupid in real life anyway.

As for clinch positions, it would be pretty cool if you could achieve head and arm control then double collar neck tie and unload knees and elbows from there... or if you had the edge in wrestling, get that leg hump dominant position and just stall and win a boring UD. But that's a long way to go.
