Steel Penn ICON - Las Vegas Hostile Takeover Event Review

(Final Event under Steel Penn banner before change to Honor FC)

The final event under the name Steel Penn Icon-Las Vegas was a big success. A sell out at the Hayashi's Lounge and the fans that packed it let us know how great of an event it was. I do not have the final numbers sitting in front of me, but I am sure Meet the Future owner Jacob What will pleased with the turn out and sales. Mr. Monk has to be certainly happy with ICON-LV 5 Hostile Takeover as it was one of the highest rated events in his organizations history. We are going to take a look into each of these fights and see why it was such a great final event.

Gustavo Gracie versus Carlos “The Rattlesnake” Jimenez

In the first preliminary bout we got to see Gustavo Gracie take on Carlos "The Rattlesnake" Jimenez. I picked Gustavo Gracie to win this Middleweight bout in the first round by submission and he did not disappoint me. Right after the opening bell Gracie shoots in and gets the double pulling Jimenez down into guard. Gracie easily passed to half guard, but during a mount attempt he had to fend off a submission. The two warriors traded submission attempts and grappling tactics until Gracie was able to take full mount near the four minute mark. Jimenez was happy to give up his back and Gracie sunk in the leg hooks and was able to slap on a rear naked choke for the submission victory at 4:26 of the first round. Gracie hyped himself up after the fight, and he should have because that was amazing ground work.

Bruce Shashia versus Janusz Bomba

In our next bout at Featherweight I said Bomba needed to come out aggressive and that is exactly what he did. To start off the fight he was throwing kicks everywhere and they looked good, they would have looked better if some of them would have landed. In this first minute of the round I though Bomba’s aggressiveness might be all he needed until Shashia landed a massive body shot that would have sent most people to the ground. Instead Bomba clinched and looked to control. The clinch gets broke and the two start exchanging again. Shashia then lands an amazing jab square on the nose and we have blood! Bomba goes back to the clinch and gets a third takedown stuffed and then tries to pull guard. Shashia allows Bomba to stand back up and its jab, hook, hook, hook, hook, and Bomba is face down! Shashia wins by TKO. I picked the correct winner, but I had this fight going to decision. Oh well I am still two for two and that’s what matters.

Investitor Gradnje versus Kurt “Swift” Zukaryian

Kurt Zukaryian did not take my advice of staying away from the ground as he attempted an early take down to start the fight off. After defending the takedown attempt Gradnje tried one himself only to have it stuffed as well. The two men clinch up against the cage and Gradnje drags Zukaryian to the floor, but ends up in a strange position. As the two look for ways to get the dominate position somehow Zukaryian ends up on top with Gradnje in full guard. After a few seconds of no action we get a warning from the referee and Gradnje throws on a loose triangle choke, but it was enough as Zukaryian taps out at the :45 second mark of the first round. Once again I miss the prediction of the round, but I am now three for three as Investitor Gradnje is your winner.

Jack “The Tank” Harris versus Brian “Cold Bloded” Fury

Jack Harris is a lay and pray guy as I pointed out in the preview to this event. I predicted he would get the takedown and do just enough to point out the victory. Well in the first round Harris proved me wrong, he did get the takedown nice and early but instead of just doing enough he overdid it. Sixteen submission attempts all defended well by Brian Fury and the round goes to Harris 10-9.

In the second round Fury starts the round by trying to grab a clinch but Harris gets the takedown. Harris really wants to finish this fight as we see another ten submission attempts until shortly after the 3:00 minute mark. The action slows down and we get a stand up from the ref. Once we get back up from the ground Fury tries to clinch and Harris circles and gets Fury’s back. Harris lands a massive suplex that I thought could have ended the fight. Harris then looks for a few more submissions before the close of the round. I personally scored that round 10-8 for Harris.

We get much of the same in the third round with Harris getting the takedown and looking for submissions. Fury gets a sweep but Harris is able to use his superior grappling skills and he takes the dominate position once again. We get a few more submission attempts from Harris and as time is running out we get an attempt from Fury and then the buzzer sounds. All of the judges scored it 30-27, I scored it 30-26 Harris wins by decision.

Anderson “Shogun” Christopher versus “The Wasp” Wade West

West comes out firing away, and landing some nice shots on Christopher. West grabs the clinch and is able to do some damage with knees to the body. It appears that Christopher is tired as West will be able to do whatever he wants in this one. West breaks the clinch and throws some kicks and some body punches and goes back to the clinch. From the clinch he lands a nice elbow busting Christopher open which usually has a bad effect on fighters. We go back to the clinch so West can work over Christopher some more, and then right back to striking distance. Christopher takes some flush shots to the jaw. Around the three minute mark West landed some body shots and then he landed a head kick that was partially blocked, but it was still enough to rock Christopher. Jab to the body and a hook to the head and that is all she wrote for Christopher. Wayde West is your winner by knockout at 3:22 of the first round via punch.

That wraps up the preliminary fights and it is time to get on to the main card. I would like to point out how dominate Wayde West looked in that last fight and I would like to also remind everyone to drop by Meet the Future for any of their apparel needs. Now on to the main card bouts.

Julius Caesar versus Marek Contofalsky

Caesar comes out throwing, and landing. Punches to the face and body landing around fifty percent, and then he lands a big inside leg kick. Caesar then takes he fight to the clinch where he would control the fight, preventing Conto from taking him down. Caesar then breaks the clinch and we get back to striking, only this time Conto is striking just as good if not better than Caesar. So since Caesar had been working on the clinch he decided to go back to it, but Conto landed an elbow that cut Caesar and then took the fight to the mat. I have it scored 10-9 for Conto.

On to round two and Caesar lands a kick that hits the no no spot and we have a break in the action for Conto. For the rest of the first minute Caesar outstroke Conto but not nothing over whelming. Caesar lands a left then a big right that sends Conto to the ground, and Caesar jumps on his rocked opponent. Caesar was throwing some shots from the ground while he tried to pass the guard, but he was unsuccessful. We get a referee stand up and Caesar grabs the clinch to take a breather. Conto holds onto the clinch as the round closes with a frustrated Caesar who wanted to throw some more strikes from range as the round closes. I have Caesar winning this round 10-9.

To start the third round we get both fighters exchange until Caesar grabs a clinch. The clinch gets broken but Caesar gets it right back. In the clinch Caesar stuffed a lot of takedown attempts and the two fighters exchanged a few shots most of which were blocked. The action has clearly slowed way down as these two fighters seemed to be pretty gassed out. Caesar tried to get back to range but Conto was able to hold on until the end of the third round. A very lack luster third round that I gave to Caesar 10-9. All three judges scored the fight 30-27, but I strongly feel Conto won the first round. Still I ended with the same result Caesar wins the unanimous decision.

Donovan “Ronin” Robertson versus Deco “Glass Knee” Early

Robertson comes out and looks to take the fight right to the ground, but Early stuffs the takedown. Early then gets a takedown himself and the two men are right next to the cage. Robertson easily gets it back to full guard but then looks to sweep. Early defends the sweep perfectly but Robertson creates a little bit of space and turns his body right in to an armbar. Robertson quickly extends the arm and Early taps out at :48 seconds of the first round. The fight went the way I thought it would, I just thought it would last a little longer.

“The Viking” Agnar Gorm versus Lotas Mauras

Mauras comes out and sticks Gorm right in the nose. Gorm drops down and gets the takedown right after taking the shot on the button. Mauras doesn’t look bad at first getting into closed guard. Gorm starts throwing strikes and slips into half guard. The two men are pressed against the cage and Gorm throws a big shot and as Mauras reacts Gorm grabs a kimura. That’s all she wrote for the big striker, Mauras taps out in less than a minute. Gorm is your winner at :58 seconds of the first round via submission. Well I can’t call all of them right, but that is my first prediction I got wrong, big ups to Agnar Gorm.

Austin “Hollywood” Worner versus Gabriel “DaBeast” Douglas

The first round was complete domination for Gabriel Douglas. Douglas was landing very nice strikes, nothing devastating but some very nice accurate shots. I lost count of how many unsuccessful takedowns Austin Worner had because of Douglas’s awesome takedown defense. Things did look to get a little dicey for Douglas as Worner was able to clinch and it looked as though he was going to get a takedown. Douglas was able to defend it and get back out to range where he slapped Worner around for the last minute or so. I scored this round in favor of Douglas 10-8.

We get to see much of the same in round two. A massive amount of stuffed takedowns from Worner as Douglas just pelted him with accurate shot after show. Douglas looked very classy out there with his boxing in the second round, changing levels and countering anything that came near him. Worner was unable to even get a full clinch in the second round and it really looked like an amateur against a pro in this round. Once again I have Douglas winning 10-8 in round two. This fight has been so one sided even if Worner is somehow able to finish in the third I think I would still want to give the win to Douglas.

Douglas comes out striking like he is down two rounds not up at the beginning of round three. He seemed to hurt Worner early but did not capitalize on it. Worner then continued to get takedown after takedown stuffed and Douglas made him pay for it. Once we hit the 3:00 minute mark it seemed Douglas knew he had the fight won and he laid back and just looked to counter. Worner then looked to strike a little bit as he went wild but nothing was landed that mattered. Douglas continued to smack around Worner until the final bell sounded. I think Worner did head and shoulders better in round three but I still scored the round 10-9 Douglas. I had Douglas winning 30-25 but all the judges seen it as 30-27. Gabriel Douglas wins via unanimous decision.

Arshnoor “THE BURTALIZER” Singh versus Viet “Maokhamphiou” Lights Out

In the main event we have two strikers looking for knockout victories. One a Muay Thai striker and the other a boxer so it promises to be a good one and it did not disappoint. The first minute of the fight Lights Out threw some big shots, but Singh was able to avoid most of them. Singh landed a few punches and some very nice kicks to the mid-section and legs of Lights Out. Singh dumped it on after words dropping Lights Out with a leg kick. Back to his feet he takes a big kick to the stomach and then two head kicks that absolutely rock Lights Out. A big hook knocks Lights Out to the mat, and Singh follows up with some more shots to the head as the ref has to step in and stop the fight. Singh wins by TKO via strikes at just 1:19 of the first round.

As stated before a big time card to end the ICON project here in Las Vegas. Wayde West wins Knockout of the Night. Submission of the Night goes to Agnar Gorm. Last but not least you’re Fight of the Night winner Arshnoor Singh versus Viet Lights Out. I was just handed some new information for everyone to hear. Our owner Dan Monk has extended the partnership with Meet the Future so please grab all of your fighters needs from there. The next time you will be hearing from me will be under the Honor Fighting Championship brand name.

A big hook knocks Lights Out to the mat, and Singh follows up with some more shots to the head as the ref has to step in and stop the fight. Singh wins by TKO via strikes at just 1:19 of the first round.

HONOR FC 1 RENAISSANCE EVENT PREVIEW

It’s the dawning of a new era. The former Steel Penn Icon program in Las Vegas has broken away from the mother ship. Dan Monk decided to take his company out of the ICON program and it gave away to Honor Fighting Championship. All contracts where retained and Meet the Future extended its merchandising partnership with Mr. Monk. There will not be a lot of changes with the new organization, but the few ones do include a new logo of course, the introduction of championships at each weight class, and the biggest change of them all a new show starting Wednesday February 5th.

The new show will be called Wednesday Warfare and will not replace the weekly event currently running on Saturdays. So Honor Fighting Championship will now have two events a week, which means a whole lot more, fights here in Las Vegas. Eight events including three Wednesday Warfare shows have been scheduled for the month of February as Mr. Monk wanted to make a huge splash.

To go along with all of the wonderful news fans and fighters of this organization has already received we will crown our first champion on February 1st. Also three more title fights have already been announced and I am sure the next few will be announced within the next week or so. With the big title fight on the first we will also have nine other wonderful fights that we will break down for you now.

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Light Heavyweight Fight

Randy "Speedy" Gonzales (2-3) {1-0} versus Andrew "Animal" Todd (0-2) {0-1}

Gonzales may have lost his last two fights, but he might have gotten a little lucky in this next one. Gonzales is a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and his opponents two losses have been by submission. Clearly Speedy will want to get this fight to the ground and look for early submission. Andrew "Animal" Todd has lost both of his professional fights by way of submission. Todd is a wrestler and has run into a bunch of submission fighters. Todd would love to be able to takedown his opponents and ground and pound his way to victory. I don’t think he will be able to do that in this fight, and I see Gonzales winning this fight by submission in the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Bantamweight Fight

Justin "Glenn" Bostic (3-1) {0-0} versus Sun "Kakarot" Wukong (2-1) {0-0}

Both of these fighters are making their debut in the Bantamweight division. This is a great time to get into this division as later on this evening the Bantamweight title will be on the line. These two will have a ground war I am sure as both of them prefer the ground and pound. I think Bostic has the better stand up and should consider trying to box with his opponent. Wukong would welcome a takedown attempt as he has proven that he is a beast on the ground. Wukong is very aggressive once the fight hits the mat. He loves the ground and pound and has been very successful with it in the past. I see Wukong winning this fight by TKO do to strikes in the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Welterweight Fight

Nilz "Achtung" Artzing (1-1) {0-1} versus Vedran Milosevic (0-1) {0-1}

Artzing is supposed to have good kicks but we have yet to see them so far. The Muay Thai trained fighter has attempted a lot of takedown in his two fights, and it seems he prefers point grappling and striking versus having the killer instinct. If I was Artzing I would come out feet a blazing and see if I have the knockout power needed to be successful in this business. Milosevic is a wrestler who will look for the ground and pound opportunity. If he gets taken down himself we will have to see if he can sweep, or work off of his back at all. He does have some training in boxing as well, but if Artzing throws kicks it will be hard to get into punching range. I see Milosevic winning this fight by decision in a grappling war.

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Light Heavyweight Fight

Derec "The Smile" Negreanu (0-0-1) {0-0} versus Al "KO" Hallick (0-0) {0-0}

Negreanu is a striker that was happy to stand up in strike in his only fight. He was unable to knockout his opponent even though he landed several big shots. This could be due to a lack of natural knockout power, and if that’s the case he may want to change up his game plan. Hallick will be making his debut and should be happy to stand and strike. Well trained in boxing and Muay Thai so I assume he can strike with the best Light Heavyweights in HFC. He should consider testing out his clinch against Negreanu to see if it up to par. I like Hallick’s chances to win this fight, and I am going to pick him to win by knockout in the first round, clinch or no clinch.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Light Heavyweight Fight

Gustov "Downtown" Brown (1-0) {0-0} versus Greg Roddy (0-2) {0-1}

Brown is a striker who will mix it up at range. He was pulled into a clinch a few times and it seemed he had no idea what to do. Brown went for an excessive amount of takedowns most of which were unsuccessful. He did look descent from range though and he should look to keep the fight at that level. Roddy should be happy to strike at range with Brown since his clinch is terrible. Roddy also does not do very well from the ground, so range striking will benefit him. These two should start throwing strikes from the opening bell. I see someone getting knocked out in the first round and I am going to pick Roddy to get the win in this one.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Lightweight Fight

Bolius Kalabokas (2-2) {0-0} versus Zack "The Prodigal Son" Young (1-0) {0-0}

These two warriors are both strikers with a back round in boxing. Kalabokas came out and lost his first two fights, but he looks like he could be on top of the world right now winning his last two fights by knockout. In his last two fights he has shown some amazing punching power winning both of those fights in the first round. Young likes to punch in combos versus single strikes. He also comes into this with a scouted good chin. So Young should be looking to counter Bolius shots with combos since taking one or two on the button should be ok. This is a hard fight to predict but I am going to guess Young wins this fight by knockout in the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Middleweight Fight

Dmitry Belov (11-3) {1-0} versus Duke Ellington (13-9) {0-0}

Dmitry Belov is a ground fighter who holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he has an amazing wrestling pedigree. You would think that most of his wins have come by submission, but that is not the case. Ten of his eleven wins are by TKO or KO as he is more of a ground and pounder than a submission artist. He will want to get Ellington down to the ground and pound his way to victory. It has been a rough ride for Ellington lately as he has lost four of his last six fights. The thirty eight year old veteran is trying to rejuvenate his career and will be looking to do so with his great boxing. If he can keep this fight standing up I think Duke will win it easy. I foresee Belov getting the fight to the ground and getting a knock out win though. I think Ellington will be able to last until the second round all though.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Light Heavyweight Fight

Timothy "The Assassin" Christopher Iii (2-1) {0-0} versus Bud "King Of Beers" Weiser (2-1) {1-1}

Christopher is a ground fighter and he will be looking to get it down early since he has little to no striking skills. His wrestling is also questionable but he does have a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. If he can get this fight to the ground I would expect him to look for submission after submission until he finds one. Weiser can strike and grapple but he should have a better shot on his feet in this bout. I would suggest he adjusts his game plan to stay away from the clinch and to stop any and all takedowns. Weiser should dominate the fight from the standing position and if Timothy exchanges with him it will be over quickly. I am going to pick Bud Weiser to be the king of this fight and win by knockout in the third round.

Co Main Event, Main Card Bout Number 4- Middleweight Fight

Dante "Inferno" Mishima (2-1) {1-1} versus Corner "Alley Cat" Bum (2-1) {1-1}

This should end up being a great fight. Mishima is standup striker that will want to keep some distance from Bum. He likes to throw single shots and he mixes them well with combos. Dante is going to want to try and knock Bum even though both of his wins have come from decision. Corner Bum seems to have the ability to adapt his game plan very well. One win by submission, one win by decision, and good striking ability. If I was Bum in this one I would try to get the early takedown and pound away for a while. As soon as there is an opening he should wrap up Mishima and go for the submission. I am going to pick Bum to win this fight, but it will be close. I think we will see a third round submission for Bum.

Main Event, Main Card Bout 5- Bantamweight Championship Fight

Ethan "Captain Insaneo" Harris (6-2-1) {1-0} versus Joe "The Pitch" Castro (2-0-1) {1-0-1}

I am really looking forward to this great matchup. Harris is skilled in Muay Thai and loves to clinch. Once in the clinch he looks to go to town with elbows, and his are sharp. He won his last fight by doctor stoppage do to how strong those elbows are. Castor also loves to clinch but he works the body so well. Working over the body will just break a fighter down, as it affects the ability to do just about anything. This fight should be spent up close and personal for the most part. Castro will take down his opponent to score points if he is not effective in the clinch and that could earn him a decision win. This will be a war in the clinch and whoever gets that dominate position will come out the winner. I think the power elbows could earn Harris a TKO win by doctor stoppage or even just a knockout win. I am going to pick Harris to get the victory by TKO in the second round.

This should shape up to be a great event for the rebranded organization. I see a lot of these fights getting finished and a very happy owner when this one is done. Meet the Future should also be very happy with the turn out in this event. There is only a very few number of tickets left so get down to The Underground and pick up your tickets now.

Dario "The killer" Silva talk about his title fight: I'm very happy, to have this opportunity so i must thanks boss of HONOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP. I have big respect for my opponent Donavan Robertson. Particularly for his ground game, but I don't disesteem his stand up, becouse I don't see to much of this. But I'm very self confident and I'm sure the belt will be mine. I also belive this will be a entertainment fight, so invite fans of good fighting to watch this and support my!

A sellout crowd, ten finishes, and the first ever Honor Fighting Championship champion is crowned! We had a very exciting night of fights and if you missed it I have a full recap coming at you. You should have been there live since we got to see seven knockouts and three submission wins. The first ever event held under the banner of Honor Fighting Championship was a huge success and I am sure that Mr. Monk and all the guys over at Meet the Future are very pleased. So dig in and let me take you on a fantastic voyage that this wonderful event was.

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs.)

Randy "Speedy" Gonzales versus Andrew "Animal" Todd

Well Gonzales really lived up to his nickname in this bout as it only lasted thirty seconds. Randy grabbed onto Todd right after the bell rang and started trying to pull guard. It looked as though Todd was going to keep the fight standing, but he then decided to take Speedy to the floor. Todd landed one punch from guard as Gonzales looked to sweep. As soon as the punch landed Gonzales sprang on the loose limb and tightened down a triangle and Todd was forced to tap at just 0:30 of the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Justin "Glenn" Bostic versus Sun "Kakarot" Wukong

The first round of this fight was just a good old fashioned beat down. Wukong gets a very early takedown and starts in with some punches from full guard. He was not landing a lot and from that position the ones he did land where not all in all that effective. Wukong did try and get what appeared to be a knee bar off, but Bostic was able to defend. Wukong took back full guard after the great submission defense. Wukong started working to pass as he was controlling in full guard. Wukong gets a leg out and then quickly passes to full mount from there he just starts painting Bostic’s face with punches. In the closing seconds I felt the fight should have been stopped but we only get an improvement warning from the referee. I thought Bostic was out cold but the buzzer sounds and Bostic survives the round. My score card shows 10-8 in favor of Wukong.

To start the second round off Bostic was able to defend several takedown attempts from Wukong. While the two were pressed against the fence Sun decided to pull guard and try to work from the bottom. Bostic fails to improve his position so he starts trying some ground and pound himself to no avail. Missing with everything he goes for a heel hook but Wukong is too good on the ground for that and defends well. Sun is able to take the top position after the failed submission. Wukong easily advances to side control and starts letting the punches and elbows fly. He was landing shots to the head and body as our ref was watching closely to see if the fight should be stopped. The buzzer sounds again and Bostic is showing his big heart in this fight. I scored the round for Wukong 10-9 and I have the fight at 20-17 for Wukong, so Bostic will need to get a finish in my opinion if he is going to win this fight.

Right of the bat Wukong gets the big takedown in the opening seconds of the third and final round. Both of these fighter appear to be extremely tired and neither one of them is doing much from the ground. We get a stand up from the ref and Bostic lands a nice head kick. It was not enough though as Wukong rushes in and takes down Bostic once again. Wukong starts working in some strikes, and it looks as he is doing just enough to not have this fight get stood up again. Sun is able to pass to half guard but he just sits there not doing anything, as he must know that this fight is in the bag. Finely Wukong attempts to pass the half guard and he gains full mount. From mount he starts delivering elbows and hammer fists trying to finish this fight. A brief pause in the action just so Wukong can grab a breather before going back to the elbow strikes, which were pretty close to some 12 to 6’s and Bostic is forced to tap out do to the elbows. Sun Wokung gets the win by submission from strikes at 3:59 of the third round.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Nilz "Achtung" Artzing versus Vedran Milosevic

The way this fight started out I though Milosevic was coming into this one just to point his way to victory. He grabbed a clinch and worked a nice takedown just to stand back up. After Milosevic stood up Artzing gained the upper hand in a clinch and it was broke right away. The two clinched back up and Milosevic had to go on the defensive to stop some takedowns that Nilz was working. Milosevic then scored with a takedown himself and the action dulled on the ground. Milosevic got back to his feet as soon as he could, and then got up close and personal again with a clinch. An uppercut and followed by a nice right hand rocked Nilz. Another right hand and Artzing hits the floor, Milosevic is all over him as he follows to the mat and the fight is stopped after a few shots on the ground. Your winner Vedran Milosevic by TKO do to strikes at 1:58 of the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Derec "The Smile" Negreanu versus Al "KO" Hallick

The first minute of this fight was pretty strait forward testing each other out. Both fighters threw a lot of punches and kicks with nothing major landing, or being strung together. The two continued to exchange and their percentage of landed strikes where going in the right direction. Hallick landed a nice punch that opened up Negreanu’s face. Not too much longer and Hallick ate a big uppercut that seemed to hurt him, but Derec did not try to follow up. Hallick then lands a big uppercut of his own and Derec goes down hard. I am surprised Hallick did not follow up that knockdown. Negreanu is now back to his feet and Hallick lands a three punch combo then slips a cross and drops Negreanu again with an uppercut. Once again there is no follow to the ground to put this fight away. Back to his feet for a second time and then Derec starts going crazy with punches that are miles from landing. Hallick slips in a nice jab and now Negreanu is really bleeding. Derec lands a nice punch, but Al comes in with a flying knee that knocks Derec down for a third time, and we finely get the follow in. Hallick quickly finishes Negreanu on the ground from mount with strikes. The ref stopped this one at 3:37 of the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Gustov "Downtown" Brown versus Greg Roddy

This fight got started with Brown putting in about a minute or so beat down on the air that was somewhat near Roddy. The lack of accuracy was almost pathetic in that opening minute or so. Brown still being ultra-aggressive and he gets caught with a two punch combo that split him wide open. Brown looks completely gassed from all those whiffed punches and Roddy lands a nice combo that sends Brown to the floor. Roddy waves him up and it looks as though Brown should not be fighting right now since he can barely stand. Greg comes in and lands a big left hook and Brown is down once again. This time the referee stops the fight quickly and at 1:58 of the first round Greg Roddy is your winner by knockout.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Lightweight Fight (205lbs)

Bolius Kalabokas versus Zack "The Prodigal Son" Young

We started off the main card perfectly with this one. These two warriors mixed it up well to start the fight off. Dodging punches and take downs being stuffed until Kalabokas cut Young with a great stiff punch. Young immediately got a take down after the he was split opened and then started working for a submission. Kalabokas defended the leg lock and then got top position during the ensuing scramble. Bolius could not pass the guard but it was open so he stood up to get back into his wheel house. Young missed a few strikes and then Bolius landed a big hook and down goes Young. Kalabokas let Young stand back up and then he landed another huge hook and that was the end of Young. The referee stops the fight and Bolius Kalabokas wins by knockout at 1:56 of the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Dmitry Belov versus Duke Ellington

This was just a one sided affair. Ellington came out and started landing at a ridiculously high percentage as Belov missed his only punch attempt. Belov goes for a takedown but Ellington avoids it with ease and starts pelting away again on Belov. A very nice hook drops Belov to the floor and Ellington calls him back to his feet. A body shot from Ellington followed by a strait left that sends Belov crashing to the mat again. This time Ellington follows Belov to the ground and starts throwing bombs as the referee comes running in to call a stop to this one. Duke Ellington wins by TKO from strikes at 1:32 of the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Timothy "The Assassin" Christopher Iii versus Bud "King Of Beers" Weiser

As soon as the bell rang Weiser charged in a pushed Christopher up against the cage. He then got out of the clinch rang but Christopher started throwing head shots so Weiser clinched again. Timothy got the trip takedown right away and went to work from Weiser’s half guard. Throwing punches from half guard Christopher seemed content with keeping that position. Weiser then got the fight to full guard where he could better minimize the damage. Since Christopher was having a problem dealing damage he decided to try a heel hook and he got it sunk in nicely. I thought Weiser was going to tap but he was able to work out of it and then grab the top position. Weiser was missing punches left and right and Christopher was able to get the sweep and go back to the dominate position. Weiser did great job defending on the ground and preventing any damage as the round came to a close. I gave the round to Christopher and my card shows 10-9 Christopher.

Co Main Event, Main Card Bout Number 4- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/31/31w2.jpg http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/4/4b13.jpg

Dante "Inferno" Mishima versus Corner "Alley Cat" Bum

Mishima was doing some very nice countering to open the round. Everything Bum tried to do Mishima would avoid or block it and stick Bum with a shot. Mishima then took the fight to the clinch and started to throw some shots. Bum just became a furiously Alley Cat with the takedown attempts from the clinch. The two men get a little bit of space and Mishima drops Bum with a big overhand right. Dante dives on top of the rocked Bum but great defense by Bum and the fight is now into full guard. Dante tried to land as many shots as he could but Bum was moving around and defending well. Late in the round Mishima threw a big elbow and Bum was able to get the sweep do to Mishima’s momentum. Bum was trying to work into side control as the bell rang and the end of the first round. I scored the first round for Mishima 10-9.

The second round starts and Mishima is counter everything with massive head shots that have to be hurting Bum. Bum with a takedown attempt that gets stuffed and Mishima looks to stick and move again. Another big slow takedown attempt by Bum and Dante side steps him and delivers an impactful uppercut that knocks out Bum. The referee stops the fight instantly and Dante Mishima is your winner by knockout at 0:55 of the second round.

Ethan "Captain Insaneo" Harris versus Joe "The Pitch" Castro

Our final fight of the night will crown are first champion in Honor Fighting Championship history. Harris drove the fight to the clinch in the opening seconds. From the clinch he landed a few big elbows as Castro missed a few. Castro started trying to do anything to get the fight to the ground but Ethan Harris would not allow it. The two got separated for a second but Harris put it right back to the clinch and Castro started working for a takedown again. Harris lands an elbow, another elbow lands, a third elbow has Castro hurt and then a fourth and final elbow sends Castro to the ground. No need to follow to the ground as the referee is stopping the fight. Castro is pleading his case that he is just fine but the fight has already been stopped. Your winner and first Honor Fighting Championship Bantamweight Champion Ethan "Captain Insaneo" Harris at 2:24 of the first round by TKO do to strikes.

A huge night for Ethan "Captain Insaneo" Harris and a historic night for Honor Fighting Championship as we seen ten fights and each and every one of them was finished. Your Knockout of the Night winner is Bolius Kalabokas, Submission of the Night goes to Randy Gonzales and the Fight of the Night winners Dante Mishima vs Corner Bum. Please be sure to pick up any of your attire needs at Meet the Future and please join us on Wednesday for Wednesday Warfare 1.

Mishima was doing some very nice countering to open the round. Everything Bum tried to do Mishima would avoid or block it and stick Bum with a shot.

Wednesday Warfare 1 Event Preview

by Tony Rossi

Welcome to the very first Wednesday Warfare being held by Honor Fighting Championship. This event will be presented by Meet the Future who will have all of your Honor Fighting Championship apparel needs. This event comes to you live at The Underground in Las Vegas Nevada. The Underground only holds one thousand people, and we will have two title fights so if you do not already have tickets you will have to wait for my event review. Before we get to the title fights there will be eight other action packed fights for us to see, so let’s dive on into the action.

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Bruce Lee (1-2) {0-2} versus King Pin (0-1) {0-0}

This should be a very interesting bout. Both of these guys are stand up fighters, and those types of fights tend to be a lot of fun. Lee started his career with a five second knock out of his opponent. Since then he has gone to decision twice both of them were in a losing effort. Lee has a chance to get back on his winning ways taking on a much younger opponent. Pin is a striker who lost a very close split decision in his first and only fight. Pin has little to no ground game, and I feel Lee is the better striker so Pin will have to get lucky, or come in with an amazing game plan. I am going to pick Lee to win by TKO in the second round.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Featherweight Fight (145lbs)

Josh Dominguez (13-14-1) {0-1} versus Quagmire "Ohh" Yeah (0-1) {0-0}

Dominguez has a ton of losses in his career and he has lost six of his last eight fights. That is more than likely why he is getting this fight, as it would normally be considered a major mismatch. Josh is ten years older than his opponent and you would think with age and experience he would be the odds on favorite. I am sold that this is the case since Yeah is a wrestler and Dominguez like to look for the submission. I feel Yeah is not ready for this level of competition and Dominguez should dominate this fight. I am going to pick Josh Dominguez to win by submission in the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Steve "Cobra" Cox (1-0) {1-0} versus Coors "Silver Bullet" Light (1-1-1) (0-1-1)

Steve “Cobra” Cox is a boy among men. He is seventeen years old and already fighting professionally which is one of the more impressive things I have seen in this sport. Cox is a wrestler who can only improve with age and experience and what could be a better way to gain experience than fighting somebody who is eight years older. Light should not be thinking he is just going to bully around this kid since his wrestling is nowhere near the level of Cox. Light is going to need to come up with a way to stuff his takedowns and look for a knockout since the decisions have not been good to Light. “Silver Bullet” in my opinion is in trouble. I think Cox out wrestles Light to a decision win.

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Steven "Hecklly" Heck (1-0) {0-0} versus Chierehdk Cknlaskhr (4-1) {0-1}

Heck is a wrestler and in his only fight got a win via armbar. To me that is very impressive since he does not have Jiu Jitsu training. Steven went for takedowns repeatedly until he got one and shortly after the fight was over. I do not see him using this same strategy in this fight since he will be facing a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The word on the street is Heck does have some stand up training and he may want to test the water before going to the ground. Cknlaskhr turned pro and then won a sixteen man tournament to start his career. The first three fights he won by submission, and then he finished of the tournament with a knockout victory to show us he is not one dimensional. After the tournament he dropped down to Bantamweight but lost his debut at 135lbs do to cuts. That could have been a fluke and we will find out if he can return to his winning ways in his next fight. I am picking him to win by submission in the second round.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Freddy Lee (2-1) {1-1} versus Reginald Leslie (3-1) {1-0}

Lee will be are second seventeen year old appearing on this event. He is a wrestler who loves to go for the submission. Both of Lee’s wins came by submission in the first round. In his only loss he was unable to get the takedown and was knocked out in just twenty one seconds. Lee should be looking to stick to his normal game plan in this fight. Reginald Leslie is a striker with a little bit of a wrestling back round. It seems that Leslie just lacks what it takes to knock anyone out, but he makes up for it with his stand up point grappling. He loves to grab a clinch and work enough to win by decision. Over his last few fights Leslie has improved with his accuracy which improvement in anything is good, but for somebody that wants to grab a plum it is very important. I am not sure if over time he add enough power to start knocking his opposition out, but currently he is doing just fine without it. I see Leslie getting the win by decision, but do not be surprised with Lee is able to pull off a submission.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Alex "Almighty" Irwin (1-0) {0-0} versus Jim "Hitman" Jones (6-1) {0-0}

Irwin is a boxer who in his only fight won with a big knockout. He is also skilled in wrestling and his primary goal is ground and pound. He was able to execute that game plan to perfection but I am not sure he will want to do the same thing in this fight. Jones is a skilled ground fighter with a back round in wrestling and he also holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. All six of Jones’s wins have come by submission so he will welcome a takedown from Irwin. Irwin should be able to beat Jones if the fight stays standing and I think he should look to keep it on the feet. I don’t think he will though and I have Jones scoring a first round submission victory from the bottom.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Welterweight Title Fight (170lbs) http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/belt/20140125174553Honorbelt.jpg

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/23/23w3.jpg http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/4/4b6.jpg

Rock "Taijutsu" Lee (3-1) {2-1} versus Oscralo "Granalo" De Santiuya (5-2) {2-0}

We are on to our first title fight and it will be for the Honor Fighting Championship Welterweight title. Rock "Taijutsu" Lee got to this spot by winning his last two fights one by knockout and the other by decision. The Meet the Future sponsored fighter is a boxer and wrestler who prefers to stand and bang. Every time we have seen Lee on his back he stays cool calm and collected. Rock defends submissions very well, and he does not over extend himself to get up or to improve position. Oscralo "Granalo" De Santiuya has earned this title opportunity because of both of his performances in this organization. In his first fight for HFC Oscralo took home Submission of the Night honors after a war with Vedran Milosevic. He showed his big heart after being dominated in the first round, to come back and edge out the second round. In the third round Oscralo was quickly taken down and he was able to get the submission victory off of his back. To show how well rounded he is in his second fight for HFC he would take home a Knockout of the Night award. Just one minute and twenty four second into the fight and it was over by way of vicious upper cut. I think Oscralo "Granalo" De Santiuya will be out matched in the striking department in this one, and I foresee Lee stuffing a majority of the take down attempts. I am putting my money down on Rock "Taijutsu" Lee to win by knockout in the second round.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Investitor Gradnje (4-0) {2-0} versus "The Viking" Agnar Gorm (6-1) {1-1}

Gradnje is a counter fighter until he gets the takedown on you. Once on the ground this purple belt goes from being calm and complacent to beast mode. He is ultra-aggressive with his positioning and will look for every opening to get to where he wants. If it’s not available he will create space with some striking to make it available. Once he is in his place we see relentless submission attempts, which is why he is four and zero with four wins by submission. Gorm is also a ground fighter but he is very different from Investitor. Gorm has six wins three by submission and three by knockout. He will also look to take the fight to the ground, and from there he will throw bombs! If a submission attempt happens it is due to his opponent leaving something open. Agnar would prefer to put his opponents away with strikes, but his mind is set on winning no matter what. This is going to be an amazing fight worthy of at least a co-main event slot on most other events, but since it is the first Wednesday Warfare Mr. Monk had to pull out all stops. I think a submission specialist has the advantage over a ground and pounder every day of the week and twice on Sunday, so I will be picking Investitor Gradnje to win this fight by submission in the first round.

Co Main Event, Main Card Bout Number 4- Featherweight Fight (145lbs)

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/42/42w2.jpg http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/40/40b27.jpg

Diego "Firefox ak" Nunes (17-11) {0-0} versus DeMario "McDojo Blackbelt" Williams (5-2) {0-0}

The thirty three year old Brazilian native has more than twice as many fights as his opponent. He is currently on a two fight win streak and looks to continue his winning ways. He loves to stand and strike and does an amazing job mixing it up. Nunes will need to work on his takedown defense for this fight as Williams is a great wrestler. Not only is Williams a great wrestler but he loves to be aggressive on the ground. Williams is a former champion and is hoping to get a few impressive wins here in Honor Fighting Championship and get the chance to fight for a title again. I expect him to shoot early and often and I have him winning with his aggressive ground and pound in the first round via knock out.

Main Event, Main Card Bout Number 5- Featherweight Title Fight (145lbs)http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/belt/20140125174553Honorbelt.jpg

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/15/15b3.jpg http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/14/14b11.jpg

Ben Zaylor (9-0) {0-0} versus Craig "Warrior" Wardlaw (2-1) {2-0}

Ben Zaylor walks into Honor Fighting Championship and then is handed a title shot. Normally you would not see something like this, but Zaylor is riding a nine fight winning streak and he has never been defeated. The reason he has yet to taste defeat in my opinion is his superb game planning. I have been watching a lot of tape on this guy and I can tell you he walks into his fights knowing exactly what needs to be done. Against great wrestlers he will use a lay and pray tactic and out point them, against Jiu Jitsu fighters he will clinch with them and take any chance of the fight going to the mat away, and against strikes he will just eat them up by taking them to the ground and look for the submission. When I watch a Ben Zaylor fight the only words that come to mind are genius. That does not mean he can’t be beat, it only means it will be a tuff task. Craig Wardlaw does not have a lot of cage experience but that does not mean he will simply lay down to Zaylor. Craig is a wrestler who loves the ground and pound and he is very aggressive. Zaylor will want to take the fight down to the ground and control, but Wardlaw will look for a sweep or even start to strike from the bottom. Wardlaw will give Zaylor a run or his money but I think Ben Zaylor wins the title by decision. I can see this fight getting scored 29-28 if it does make it to the final bell.

What an event this will be! I personally cannot wait to see it live at The Underground in Las Vegas Nevada. Meet the Future will have clothing booths located in and around the arena so if you need any Honor Fighting Championship please stop by and pick some up. Of course I will also have your full event recap the day after the show so please look out for that as well.

Bruce Lee (1-2) {0-2} versus King Pin (0-1) {0-0}

Josh Dominguez (13-14-1) {0-1} versus Quagmire "Ohh" Yeah (0-1) {0-0}

Steven "Hecklly" Heck (1-0) {0-0} versus Chierehdk Cknlaskhr (4-1) {0-1}

Freddy Lee (2-1) {1-1} versus Reginald Leslie (3-1) {1-0}

Alex "Almighty" Irwin (1-0) {0-0} versus Jim "Hitman" Jones (6-1) {0-0}

I don’t think he will though and I have Jones scoring a first round submission victory from the bottom.

../gallery/23/23w3.jpg ../gallery/4/4b6.jpg

Rock "Taijutsu" Lee (3-1) {2-1} versus Oscralo "Granalo" De Santiuya (5-2) {2-0}

Investitor Gradnje (4-0) {2-0} versus "The Viking" Agnar Gorm (6-1) {1-1}

Co Main Event, Main Card Bout Number 4- Featherweight Fight (145lbs)

../gallery/42/42w2.jpg ../gallery/40/40b27.jpg

Diego "Firefox ak" Nunes (17-11) {0-0} versus DeMario "McDojo Blackbelt" Williams (5-2) {0-0}

I expect him to shoot early and often and I have him winning with his aggressive ground and pound in the first round via knock out.

../gallery/15/15b3.jpg ../gallery/14/14b11.jpg

Ben Zaylor (9-0) {0-0} versus Craig "Warrior" Wardlaw (2-1) {2-0}

Meet the Future will have clothing booths located in and around the arena so if you need any Honor Fighting Championship please stop by and pick some up.
