JHL
Working secondaries probably isnt the best idea. Should I just have them spar Wrestling a lot?
JakeF
If it is a 110 MT creation you would need to spar Wrestling to get it to sensational/elite. Training just TDD/Def grappling/Clinchwork to elite would bring your Wrestling up to about Superb-Remarkable level.
aylib
Why not mix wrestling sparring with takedowns, clinch (I'd start with clinch at creation), gnp/transitions/def grappling? I'm by no means an authority on wrestling/ground game, just my two cents.
JakeF
In my example I meant training clinch from wonderful to elite. Starting with useless clinchwork is a suicide. Aylib's suggestion is also good, so you would have a more complex fighter in the end, just you have to be very careful with the total skills cap so you shouldn't spread your skill points too much. Bwang
If you want him to be a standup fighter then train tkd def, def grap, trans and escapes, AND spar wrestling. You'll need all those skills eventually, make the most of the youthful learning speed by doing them all together from the start. That's what I'd do. Monsieur.Camara
I’ve read somewhere it’s def grappling or escapes. Not both. Any truth on this?
aylib
No. Escapes might help in certain situations, but you def need def grappling. Some might say escapes or transitions.
aylib
Also, my ADD got the best of me- missed the MT part in the title. Thought you were asking about how to build a wrestler. Work on TD defense, def grappling with some wrestling sparring.
BigLarry
does a pure ground guy need decent tkd def?
JakeF
does a pure ground guy need decent tkd def? I wouldnt spend many or any points on it cause you already need to train a lot of ground skills.

I picked up this FA with theses skills, I can't understand what the manager was trying to get out of this fighter, maybe ground gamer but then why all the stand up skills and no Gnp? that s why I asked, wanna know if there s a build to this or it s just fucked. Punches 13 Clinch 12 Strike D 14 GnP 1 Td off 10 Td Def 1 Sub 14 Deff Grapple 13 Transitions 12 Escape 2 Sorry Jason not trying to hijack your thread, just did n't wanna make a new thread. JakeF
Gnp isnt very effective this is why he ignored it.

He's a submissions fighter. No need for gnp. You need punches clinch and str def to survive on the feet before you can take them down and sub them. Or you might win standing too. Good to have more than one attack. Perfectly reasonable build to me. You'll appreciate that def grap against Stahl.

Bwang
And if he happens to have a 99 IQ, is it a good idea to go with ground fight or switch him to stand up? He can still do both. Get his punches, clinch, str def to elite as well as his subs, def grap, trans. He'll be a monster. Can always pull guard from clinch so don't need to worry about the tkd off. Higher IQ would be nice for submissions but 99 isn't a disaster by any rate.
