Mr. Takahashi: Kaoru Nagashima recently returned yet again from Mount Fujihara after meditating on the further deep meditations of Akirono and instructed me to tell all, the boundless one decrees it is a glorious day and he will show the lessons have no bounds when he rains down upon Andy Veidt like the Octopus god Squishomoru and hammers him to the canvas but he will not murder him as he appreciates Andy Veidt for being the Harbinger to his connection to the outer realms. All this to become the Champion and upon his Golden Throne he will call out the one true deity in all of Sucker Punch, Donkey Dan.

ROFLMA!

All hail, Donkey Dan!

Kaoru Nagashima: I HAVE SEEN in my minds eye the Champion Donkey Dan, I will take this division by force and accumulate the many skills I will need to challenge Donkey Dan's Legendary Donkey Kick the most devastating movement in all Martial Arts history with force and speed beyond measure. I will use the talents of Akirono to untether myself, Squishomoru to be loose and many limbed, and Tadanakoano the Monkey demon who will teach me my ambidextrous philosophical movements and in that moment I will learn this Donkey Kick and you will all see before you the clash of gods Nagashima and Donkey Dan, my best friend.

Post Event Cheap Shots

Sucker Punch Pro Series 1

We had a big night of fun over the past weekend down in Sydney at the Bondi Outdoor Arena as we moved from our Sorter Series tournament cards and started moving towards cards with a full mix of weight classes. That being said, the naming of these events has move to Sucker Punch Pro Series X away from the CSS event titles!

I’m Hare Rumpler along with our analyst, Donkey “Dan”, and our media correspondent, the incomparable Suzy Sucker Punch and while I think Suzy will be off doing other duties with not much in-person reporting to do for this, it’s always great to have her around! Donkey, I’m thrilled that we’ve now moved past four of our six divisional Sorter Series tournaments and those divisions have either belted a champion now, or will be doing so this coming month!

We didn’t have any titles on the line in this one folks, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t bring the fun! This card was chock full of a bunch of new faces for Sucker Punch and from a post-look back perspective, wow…not one, not two…but SIX fights that either went the distance or went into the third and final round! That’s some great stuff and it wasn’t for lack of action…it was due to a lot of heart on the part of these young fighters!

So let’s get a word about our merchandise partner and sponsor and then get on with the fun!

Now, let's get to it!

Undercard Bout #1: Light Heavyweight

Azir Zarus Defeats Some Body via Submission (RNC)

Woot, well there you go Donkey! You’re starting this thing out 1 for 1! This was Azir Zarus’ debut with Sucker Punch and he wasted absolutely NO time making a statement.

Donkey got the right pick on this, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t see room for improvement, even for the winner. Zarus came into this fight with his morale low, at about 60%. Some (Donkey!) might say that he was extremely lucky that his opponent, Body, came in in even worse shape from a preparation standpoint and that if that wasn’t the case, Zarus may have been looking at an L rather than a W!

But, that wasn’t the case, so let’s look at what did happen! Body was at 10% morale, and that lack of confidence is an absolute killer. As a strict stand up fighter, Body certainly wanted to keep this on the feet, but with that morale, that was NOT going to happen. We were so assured of that that Donkey even went out of his way to make a “guarantee” that Body was losing this one due to being unprepared. Well, we can’t say he was wrong on that!

Zarus came in wanting this on the ground, and he was able to put it there within seconds after fending off a couple clinch attempts by Body and countering with a takedown. A few more seconds and Body had given up his back and it wasn’t long after that before Zarus locked in the rear naked choke that had Body tapping out a little tune on the mat! 43 seconds and this thing was all over!

Donkey, anything else buddy…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

I really don’t like it when a contest is this easy to predict the ending. Not that I don’t like being right, because you know I do…but because the fans deserve better! This wasn’t a lopsided fight when it was set up and booked. It was made lopsided by lack of preparation on Body’s part. I’ll always go with the guy who comes in more prepared…and I guarantee I’m going to be right when those situations come up at least 75% of the time. And yes, I think Hare does a great job of trying to set up rights that are intended to be very good, hard fought matchups, so yes, that little bit of preparation can make a HUGE difference in the outcome! So…congrats to Zarus on his debut win…and both of you boys, get home, get a change of clothes…actually, several changes of clothes, and be ready for your next fight boys!

Undercard Bout #2: Light Heavyweight

Adam Webber Defeats Jon Snow via Submission (Triangle)

Well, Webber foiled Donkey’s call on this one, and that’s awesome, way to go Webber, keep Donkey honest…and keep that head of his from getting so big we can’t get him out the studio door!

This was one of those times where Donkey didn’t take a guy that he otherwise liked to win the fight, due to morale or energy. Webber came into this with only about 35% and that was enough to back Donkey off his pick. Otherwise, he liked Webber’s chances if he could get this thing to the ground and get a shot at a submission.

Snow’s approach in this fight was a little perplexing. He was typically the instigator of the takedowns, which did Webber a favor. With only competent wresting and a white belt in BJJ, you’d think that if he did want to be on the ground he’d be working the GnP. Instead, his time was spent trying to improve position, and even more surprising, standing right back up at one point. He attempted one sub, and landed one shot on the ground, but other than that seemed to lack direction down there.

Webber was a little more focused, once on the ground he was either working to improve position, or go for the submission. He was successful about half the time for the former and just the all-important one successful submission out of four tries!

Well Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Webber came through despite the low morale and manages to get a much needed win! Congrats on that, I’m surprised, but hey, it’s no fun if you always get them right! It’s probably going to take some refining of strategy and game plan along with key skill improvements as these two go forward to fully recover from the current records they hold. Webber definitely took the first steps, but with better morale going forward, as well as a focused plan, especially for Snow, they should be able to show what they’ve got. Keep working at it!

Undercard Bout #3: Welterweight

Andrey Nikonov Defeats Igor Nox via Unanimous Decision

Well, in the preview we mentioned how well these two match up and with that said, it’s no surprise they managed to take each other the distance and put this in the hands of those nasty judges!

In the first round, Nox got the takedown and from there it turned into a battle of Nox attempting to ground and pound versus Nikonov going for the submissions. With Nikonov unable to land a submission or get off his back, and Nox able to land a few quality shots, the round went to Nox.

The second round turned into a study of the clinch and Muy Thai skills! These guys sure liked to check out all the different ways of going about a fight that’s for sure. They traded turns clinching and breaking, with Nikonov landing a few decent shots to the head and knees to the body, while Nox was unable to really get much going with his knee attempts. That gave the round to Nikonov and set these guys up to most likely be tied with the judges!

The third round went back to more of what we saw in the first. This time Nikonov got the takedown, with sub attempts and reversals ensuing for both guys after that. Nikonov did enough in the round as these two battled it out for position to get the nod and managed to sneak off with the win by taking the last two rounds! Again, we knew this could be a tight contest, and a war between these two to see who could get the upper hand…and I don’t know that you can say either really managed to get it in this one!

Over to you Donkey, what do ya have for us…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

A well fought contest, with both fighters needing and wanting the win. Nikonov evens up his record at 3-3 with this win, while Nox falls a little further in the hole to 1-7 despite a valiant effort. If these two stick around for a while, there’s a good chance we’ll get to see what they learned from this in a potential rematch down the line!

Undercard Bout #4: Welterweight

Alex Driver Defeats Thanos Reigns via Unanimous Decision

Just as we expected, this next fight was fought as much in the clinch as out of it! Both fighters attempted to instigate the clinch about equally, but that’s where the equality ended. Driver was able to do it successfully 13 times, whereas Reigns failed all 11 times. In the clinch these two were about equal, with Reigns being the more active combatant but not necessarily the more successful.

Combined with Driver’s success in taking it into the clinch, outside at range Driver was the more effective fighter and likely is what led to his win in the eyes of the judges. He used kicks almost exclusively, again, as we’ve seen in past fights, relying on a heavy number of head kick attempts. Donkey, that’s something he’s going to have to watch out for in future fights, as those high kicks will leave him open to counters and takedowns…and against an opponent who wants it on the ground that could be his undoing.

Reigns stuck with simply boxing when separated, thworing a large number (relatively speaking) of head punches. Not many landed though, and this is where he gave up the points to Driver.

Anything else to say there Donkey...?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Both fighters really needed a win in this contest. Driver to try to bring his record to an even .500, which he has successfully done now at 2-2, and Reigns to avoid dropping to 1-5, which unfortunately is exactly where he finds himself now. For Driver, he’ll clearly want to build on this victory and take what he’s learned into his next fight…and possibly find a way to mix things up and be a little less predictable. Reigns now finds himself in desperate need of a win…and soon…lest he find that his days of hoping to make a living as a fighter are behind him. At 26 years old, the clock is ticking. Oh, and Hare? I’m now 3-1 on the evening for picks I believe. I noticed you conveniently failed to mention that!

Undercard Bout #5: Light Heavyweight

Ross Rhea Defeats Devin Ecker via KO (Strikes)

Well, I guess I better get this out of the way and move on before Donkey starts whinging at me again! Yes, with this pick for Rhea as the victor, Donkey is now 4-1 on the night with his picks. Bah!

This one just about went the distance before Rhea was able to finally finish this one in fine fashion that had the fans on their feet midway through the third round! Two fresh combatants to the Sucker Punch scene, both came in looking to make an impression, and after over two and a half rounds, they sure managed to do just that!

This was Ecker’s first fight not only with us, but professionally. And I think perhaps it showed. He seemed a little uncertain of what he wanted to do in the cage, not quite committing to his manager’s instructions and really, seeming to be doing more of a feeling out process to see what he liked and what worked. He was in and out of the clinch a ton in this fight, so much so that it almost seemed like that was his entire move set. Clinch or be clinched…break clinch. Rinse, repeat. The problem? While in the clinch he wasn’t dishing out and landing a ton of damage, or successfully using it as a mechanism to get to the ground as most of his attempts to do so were rebuffed by Rhea.

On the other hand, Rhea was landing some effective shots in the clinch. So while Ecker wasn’t helping himself with the constant in and out, as Rhea was getting the better of him in the clinch, Rhea was also getting the better of the two when boxing! Essentially, on the feet Ecker was at a disadvantage in this one and really, his best hope may have been as we suggested in the preview, which might have been on the ground. He did ok down there the couple times it went there, the problem is that he was unable to successfully get it there on the other twelve attempts he made outside the clinch, and seven other times in it.

Eventually all of the activity of trying to clinch, and trying to take the fight to the ground but failing, along with the energy sapping toll of all the shots he was taking from Rhea, added up and gassed Ecker out. Once that happened, he was primed and ready, and just before the three minute mark in the third round, Rhea finally landed the right, left, take him out combination that would end this thing!

Any thoughts there Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Rhea did a fantastic job of not only controlling the fight and dictating how, and when, the fight would take place in the clinch…but he had the accuracy to make his shots count and outlast his opponent. For Ecker, I don’t know that I’d say there was an issue with the game plan and strategy. I think the strategy was clear, get the fight to the ground either from separation or from the clinch, whichever offered itself. The problem was, he just wasn’t able to successfully implement that plan. I don’t know if it’s a speed issue, strength issue, takedown offense issue or what, but most likely some or all of those things may not be where they need to be to get the job done for him yet. He’ll need to take a hard look at that with his manager and I’m sure they’ll work on it over the next month and see what changes they can make!

Main Card Bout #1: Featherweight

Michael Aalto Defeats Akara Kongsangchai via Submission (Kimura)

Yes, I know Donkey! This makes you 5-1 on the evening for your picks! Blah blah blah blah…and…blah! Now that that’s out of the way we can get to the action between these two!

To Kong’s credit, he wasn’t the one to try to clinch up in this against a superior wrestler and BJJ combination, despite a clear preference for it previously. So I think, if he planned to try to stay separated and win with his striking, his plan was potentially solid. Unfortunately, Aalto did the honors instead and took it to the clinch.

After Aalto got the clinch about 30 seconds in, it was just before the minute mark when he also managed to get the trip takedown to put this thing on the mat, which we figured was exactly what he’d want…and exactly where Kong would NOT want to be! With a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu, this was very dangerous territory for Kong.

It only took Aalto another two minutes to prove that accurate, as three submission attempts later he locked in the kimura…and a brutal one at that…I think the docs were in there pretty quick checking on Kong’s arm. He seemed to be in some serious pain there Donkey, and I hope he’s able to recover in short order!

Donkey, what do you have…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

That wasn’t pretty. Actually, I had to kind of look away because that arm did things no arm should do! Anyway, Kong made a valiant attempt, but apparently the takedown defense just wasn’t enough against Aalto. Aalto showed some true ground skills with his wrestling and submission game and at 2-0, we know he’s ready for the next step in competition! Kong goes to 1-1 and we’ll have to see what he can do in his next fight to determine if this was just a case of Aalto having an advanced skillset, or Kong perhaps not. Time will tell, let’s hope he comes back focused!

Main Card Bout #2: Light Heavyweight

Tito Slamcock Defeats Titus Fury via KO (Punches)

Ok Donkey, I can’t sit here and look you straight in the face and lie to these people. So I’m just going to say it…this was one of the craziest, head scratching fights I’ve seen in a while…yet…also a pretty fun and exciting one! So yeah, I’m all confuzzled up here man!

First, if anybody wanted this fight on the ground, you’d think it would HAVE to be Fury. He’s only ever won via submissions, which he has done VERY well. And…he’s been coming into fights low on morale, which I believe has prevented him from getting successful takedowns. So the fact that he tried for only one takedown in this entire fight, which he failed to get…and then…Slamcock was the one who actually made four attempts…foolishly in my opinion…but Fury prevented them! If It was me Donkey, and I was Fury, I would been like “thank you sir, I’ll go to the ground happily!”.

But nope, Fury stayed up, and instead decided he wanted to punch and battle his way in this one via both boxing and the clinch! Neither of which he was very adept at to be honest. Donkey…get this man…108…Yes…108 strike attempts to the head in the clinch…ten successfully. Oh, but wait…you think that was bad? Slamcock tried 75 to the head in the clinch and 13 to the body! And…one body punch landed! These two were in the clinch, dancing close, and basically slapping at each other! It was a slapfest Donkey! Were they playing paddy cake?!?

So let’s step away from the clinch and back to fighting at range…which is basically what finally happened at different points in the fight. Slamcock nailed Fury with a head kick to start the second round man! I mean, that thing sent Fury tumbling! He was rocked, and to his credit, despite the morale he came in with, he recovered! I never would have believe that shit! But…I think that kick set up what eventually happened in the beginning of the third…they come out from the bell…and Slamcock fakes another big kick…and Fury bites…big. He never saw the huge right come over the top that nailed him, and then the left hook that just rocked his world! Donkey…I think Fury never saw those two shots coming after he fell for the head kick fake…probably had to have his manager and corner tell him what happened later! Beautiful set up and shots by Slamcock, possibly KO of the Night!

Donkey, got something for us…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

It was a bit of a strange fight…as you said, both because Slamcock actually tried to take it to the ground, which you’d think would have been the worst possible thing he could do…and the fact that Fury almost completely walked away from his strength, the ground game! Do you know what I think might have happened here? I don’t want to sound like a homer…but Fury came into his last fight with low morale against Lamb, your guy Hare. And he got man-handled for the first time in his career, with the takedowns failing and it setting him up to get tagged hard. I think he panicked, and choked in this one in a big overreaction. So…perhaps Slamcock, who now moves to 3-2, should be sending Lamb a thank you card for rocking Fury’s confidence so much that he made him completely doubt himself! Or maybe it had nothing to do with any of that. HAHA! Btw…as an aside, screw those play by play guys! They actually gave the second round to Fury. How in the hell does Fury get the second round when he got dropped like a bad habit from that kick, yet landed almost nothing himself? BS if you ask me. We need better play by play guys!

*********

Main Card Bout #3: Featherweight

Hunter Killer Defeats KJ Aldo via Split Decision

Oh no Donkey! You never want to put it in the hands of those god forsaken judges…but if you do…the last thing you want is to lose it so close that it’s a split decision! But that’s exactly what happened here with Killer and Aldo…with Aldo being the one left with his head drooped at such a close loss.

I know that’s bad enough right? But what’s worse…is that he has to have gone home after that fight…hell, probably right after it ended…and wondered if his morale being down halfway cost him that win. You’d think it had to factor in, right Donkey?

Aldo surprised us big time in this fight. We anticipated that he’d either try to clinch up or take this to the ground and work the GnP. But nope, he did clinch up, but the pulled guard and spent the majority of the first found trying out submissions against Killer! Now although Aldo was the most active in the first round, and was going offensive trying for subs the whole time, he got tagged a bit before they went down, and was on his back. I guess the play by play guys, who again, probably should be fired along with John Mangel and Skip Quint…didn’t see that as enough to give him the round. Only Ron Honeybunn…btw, love his products, saw it the way I did.

Round two, and this time Killer decides to go to his bread and butter and clinched up…keeping it there until Aldo broke it later but then putting them right back. Both men were really active in the clinch, dishing out the shots and landing a decent number. Killer dished them out a bit more effectively in the round though, and took it in a close one. Round 3 was more of the same, with Killer’s energy starting to fade a bit and Aldo coming on strong in the clinch, really taking it to Killer in that round. He won that one hands down.

In the end, Aldo’s effort wasn’t enough to impress the judges quite enough, and Killer gets the nod by taking those two corrupt judges in Round 1!

Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Hare…seriously…you do know that the judges are professionals and most of them have been doing this longer than you’ve been alive right? You don’t think they know a thing or two more about what constitutes a winning round than you do, who is just sitting there judging it based upon how you feel about the fight? Killer landed enough shots in separation in that first round and never had himself in serious trouble on the ground while in a dominant position. So you need to let it go, and you and Honeybunn’s there can go sit in a corner. Aldo put up a fine effort, but he probably would have won this if he’d come in fully prepared with proper morale. So no sense crying over what could have been, it was preventable, so boo hoo on you Hare!

Co-Main Event

Heavyweight Bout

Callum Neenan Defeats Andre Powell via TKO (Strikes)

Hey, look at that Donkey, Mister “Know-It-All”, another one wrong eh! Yeah, ok, fine, you may still be 7-2 on the night, but this is the Co-Main Event, and you got it wrong, so there!

We knew these boys were serious about getting to business in this fight, and we knew that they were going to bang, and bang HARD! We weren’t sure if it was going to be an all-out war, or if somebody was going home in a body bag really early…but we knew it was going to be exciting!

This one had the bell ring…and there was no feeling out process! They came out swinging, Neenan with a hook that missed, Powell with a pulled counter, then a counter straight that went right in there! Powell goes with a wild hook that goes right on by, and then Neenan goes all “kamikaze” and shit and just lets it all hang out as he rushes Powell…who clearly wasn’t expecting such crazy ass abandon…and gets caught with the second, third, and, it’s all over…fourth strike that takes him down…and leads to a stoppage by the ref due to strikes!

Does it seem like that recap was kinda quick? Oh, really, well that’s because we got 20 seconds of action in this one! Let’s hope the activities with the ladies lasted longer later in the evening! Haha!

Donkey, whatcha got…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

What I’ve got is a bitter as hell commentator on my hands in you there, Hare! You’re going to mock being 7-2 on my picks for the night? That’s just sour grapes cause you didn’t like my take on your call of that last fight, plain and simple! You need to let it go and just accept that you’re wrong! Trust the Donkey my friend. Here’s how you do that…I was wrong on this fight! I called it for Powell due to other additional skills beyond striking…but this never came to that. Neenan rushed him in a power move and it paid off! That sort of abandon can get you taken out also sometimes, but this time he gambled and won big! I’d love to see these two meet again and see how it goes. But the fans loved it, and it certainly led up to the Main Event with the crowd in a fury! Great finish, great show.

*********

Main Event

Welterweight Bout

Konrad Wagner Defeats Pietro Marchionni via Majority Decision

Well, if you thought the last fight was over much too quickly, then you were going to feel like you got your money’s worth with this Main Event! Wagner and Marchionni took this thing the distance to finish out the night for all the fans down at the Bondi Outdoor Arena in Sydney!

And this one makes Donkey 7-3 on the night! Take that Donkey! Both Main Events…WRONG! I don’t care if you think I sound bitter, I’m just pointing out facts man…facts!

As we expected, so long as this fight stayed on the feet Wagner would have the advantage. And certainly he did, landing at a scarily efficient rate with his strikes, especially the head shots and slowing Marchionni down with the leg kicks. He prevented all takedowns in the first, keeping this thing standing and asserting his will. That was surprising, as we thought Marchionni might get this to the ground and then take over once there.

Round two was even more surprising. Marchionni got the fight to the ground not once, not twice, but three times! He was able to get a bit of GnP going, but Wagner showed some remarkably unexpected skill in being able to shut down and subdue Marchionni’s attempts, enough so that the ref stepped in twice and stood the kids back up again!

When the third round came, and Marchionni got the takedown just before the two minute mark, it seemed like the fight was finally leaning in his direction and he was going to get this thing done. But he just wasn’t able to gain enough momentum on the ground, again with Wagner putting it mostly on lockdown from the bottom and managing to avoid most damage, even fending off a sub attempt.

Ultimately, the strikes Wagner got in early in that round and then the lack of being able to get effective offense going on the ground for Marchionni got the round handed to Wagner, and that was the difference maker right there folks!

Donkey, anything…not that we care…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Sometimes you’re just really childish Hare! Seriously, you’re supposed to be a professional! Anyway, yep, I was wrong on this one too! I thought that Marchionni’s offense was going to be much more effective on the canvas than it was, but credit has to go out to young Wagner for really showing us something more than we could have expected down there. I have no doubt that it was a surprise for Marchionni that he was able to be as effective with his ground defense. Great job, both guys really, and a close one. Another fight that you have to wonder if it’d go the other way were they to say “play it again!”

*********

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

A really fun night with new faces, lots of surprises, some long, savage battles and some quick hitters that ended with a shock! Clearly Donkey and I have had our differences this evening and a bit of an issue going on, but I’m sure we’ll work things out and get back to normal…just as soon as he stops being a jackass! Well, um, I guess that’s not stopping anytime soon then! Ha. Anyways, disagreements or not, this is always a fun time, and I can’t wait to get back with our fans soon! Hope you enjoyed!

Till next time…

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series 355k+ style!

Sucker Punch Preview

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT COCKSHOT SORTER SERIES: FINALS

Hello out there again all you Sucker Punch fans! Are you ready to belt a Light Heavyweight champion? Because I am, and that’s not just because my own guy is in this one! I’m Hare Rumpler and I’ll be here with you looking ahead to tomorrow night’s Light Heavyweight Cockshot Sorter Series Final card. Here with me is my partner, Donkey “Dan”, and our vivacious media correspondent, Suzy Sucker Punch!

Tomorrow night’s card will start off with a sparring bout between two aspiring Lightweights, then we’ll move on to the bulk of the card that has eight Light Heavyweight fights waiting for you along with one extra Heavyweight bout between Boris Balkan and Kingston Wall which will take place right before our Main Events!

I could ramble for a bit longer, go on about this or that, the weather down in Sydney expected for tomorrow…but really, is there any sense? It’s getting nippy out there, the damned roof will be closed anyways, so does it matter that it’s at the Bondi “Outdoor” Arena? I mean, aren’t all the arena’s located outdoors? Oh…wait, Donkey has just informed me that it’s where the events take place, and if the top can be open, it can be outdoors…ok, I get it…I guess!

Well, I think it’s time to talk about our merchandise partner and get on with this thing, no?

http://mmatycoon.com/images/company/logo/1584375781SWN.jpg

And that sponsor and merchandise partner is none other than the outstanding Shadow Warrior Nutrition! You’ve heard it by now, but if you haven’t been listening then you truly are not doing everything you can for your fighters on a day to day basis as they train! Almost every fighter gets tired now and then from brutal training sessions. And sometimes, the only difference between having to sit them out for session or two, and keeping them in there getting the most out of that training is the right energy loss reduction supplement! Well, that’s what you’ll get with Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q! So stop by and visit them today, grab some for your fighters and get them using it! You won’t be disappointed!

Now, let's get to it!

Undercard Bout #1: Lightweight Sparring Session

Mardtlek Sitsongrit (0-0-0) vs. Naftali Waithaka (0-0-0)

We’ll start the big event tomorrow night with a little warmer-upper…just a little sparring thing where these two kids will go out there and dance for three minutes. Mardtlek Sitsongrit is currently managed by Theksit Ruengruong…boy, is that a mouthful or what? Yeah, both of them. Naftali Waithaka…ok, what are these guys trying to do to me tonight Donkey?!?...is brought to us courtesy of Esiah Xavier. So it seems we’ve got a little Yabai on Yabai violence on tap for tomorrow night!

Both of these Yabaites will be looking to see if their latest young hopefuls have what it takes to make it down the long road of training, sparring, fighting and eventual glory! For now, they’d just like to see if they have any really cool hidden abilities, certainly find out if they’ve got some bad ones they should run away from, and maybe see how they handle losing.

Waithaka is an 18 year old Muay Thai fighter based out of London but originally from Cameroon. I wonder how he feels about all the rain there now, Donkey? This is his first professional fight, so we’re here to learn what we can as we know very little.

Sitsongrit, another Muay Thai artist, is also 18 years old and hails from Thailand, currently fighting out of Rio de Janeiro! Wow, this kid gets around, that’s for sure! But does he know his way around the cage, and will the very demanding Theksit still retain his services when all of this is said and done?

Both of these fighters will have their work cut out for them if they want to become permanent features in these manager’s stables.

Donkey, you making a call on this one, or no…?

Donkey’s Pick: No Point

Nah, you know I don’t usually bother with the “test fights” when it comes to predictions. Way too many unknowns, and you don’t even know if the managers have bothered to really give much in the way of instruction to their guys. They just want to find out if they like pizza more than knocking somebody the hell out, or if it’s easy to break their jaw than it is to break the tv screen they like playing all their video games on or not! Don’t get me started on moonwalking or bleeding like a stuck pig! Good luck to these kids, may they have granite chins bestowed upon them and the confidence to bounce back from anything the cage throws at them!

*********

Undercard Bout #2: Light Heavyweight

Marat Mustafaev (4-6-0) vs. John Popeye (1-3-0)

Ok, now we get into the meat of things here Donkey! An actual fight where they want to punch each other in the nuts and bend sensitive things in the wrong directions. Oh…it’s punch each other in the nose, and bend arms in the wrong directions? Pfft, maybe some places, but this is Sucker Punch baby!!!

Well, we’re going to start this one off with one of these two trying to get a little rise out of you Donkey! Yep, Popeye over there. You know, I’d have to look back, but I think he might be making it a habit of coming into a fight with his morale a little off. And yep, I just looked back so you didn’t have to bother Donkey, and sure enough, last fight he came in about half full of morale. Well, this time he’s at about 80%, so that’s an improvement right?!? He lost the last fight, which you predicted due to being so low, btw.

Popeye has respectable boxing, but he’s mostly leans towards the ground game with wonderful wrestling and a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu. In his sole win, he ground and pounded the hell out of Jestoni Hawk after fending off subs really well. Unfortunately, last month he fell to Karhu via subs, so we’re not quite sure yet how tight his defense is.

Mustafaev was 4-5 under his prior manager before Dillo came along and pulled him under his wing. He came in big, taking the opportunity to fill-in for the Sorter Series tournament after he’d already lost in Round 2 when we had Harold Kerzner, who he lost to, go inactive before the semis. That took a lot of guts, as he was slated to face off against Willie Thai, a very accomplished sub artist. He did fall to Thai in that fight, but that’s nothing to be ashamed of.

Mustafaev is a Muay Thai artist who loves to clinch up and try to hurt you bad! He did that in his two wins prior to losing to Kerzner and I fully expect he’s going to try that against Popeye. The key will be using the clinch to abuse Popeye and sap the remainder of his will while at the same time avoiding being taken to the ground.

What do you think Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Mustafaev via TKO (Strikes)

I’m not going against my rule of thumb so early in the evening. Granted, Popeye’s morale isn’t half as bad as it was last fight, but still, in a fight where I’m already having trouble deciding who is going to be able to assert their will and dictate the fight, I’ll lean on that old crutch of Popeye not being fully prepared and giving the advantage to Mustafaev.

Undercard Bout #3: Light Heavyweight

Ali Hasanov (6-3-0) vs. Leon Chaster (5-4-0)

In our third fight of the evening we find ourselves already looking at a pair of fighters with winning records who want to extend and add to that win column! For Hasanov, that feat may be easier than it would normally be, as Chaster is rolling into this fight with about 55% morale as we speak. He rolled into the fight last month low as well and walked away with a loss for his efforts. Coincidence? Donkey will tell you definitely not!

Chaster is a balanced fighter with a little bit of skill in all areas. Prior to joining Sucker Punch he had a 5-3 record with all of his fights in the QFC. It remains to be seen if he can step up to org level competition. He has a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu and in his most recent wins used that set of skills to get submission victories.

Hasanov has been known to attempt to utilize a ground game, but against a purple belt with his own blue I think it’s fair to say he’ll likely shy away from that in this fight. He’s been very successful when he’s stood toe to toe and used those fists of his to abuse the competition. He has a granite chin, so if he finds the other guy wants to bang, he has a decent chance of withstanding and outlasting. The key in this one will be to avoid the takedowns I would think, and if he can do that, he should be able to fully abuse Chaster. At 6-3, but losses in his last two, Hasanov dearly wants to get the ship righted with a win tonight!

Over to you Donkey, what do ya have for us…?

Donkey’s Pick: Hasanov via TKO (Strikes)

Well, not only do I not like that lack of morale there, Hare, I also got word from Suzy earlier that there are a few other things to know that don’t help Chaster’s plight in this one. First, his manager has been MIA for the past several weeks. That’s bad. On top of that, apparently he and his team have run out of cash without any support from their manager lately. So he’s had to drop his gym and word has it he’s been doing sit-ups in his driveway ala Terrell Owens! Not good. Hasanov only needs to walk in and take care of business. The table is set for him here for a win.

*********

Undercard Bout #4: Light Heavyweight

Jacob Parker (0-1-0) vs. Steven Jones (2-4-0)

Ok, now we’re talking! These two kids may not come into this fight with eye-popping records to their names, but at least they come prepared, and I’ll take that any day of the week over a shiny record! Also, they are exceptionally talented, and their records do not do their abilities justice. This fight may be down on the undercard, but that is only due to hype and pop and the way it affects the org’s event ratings. These two will likely have themselves in line for top contendership sooner rather than later I’d think, at least for the one who finds a way to win and keep winning!

For this, our fourth fight of the evening, we get to welcome Jacob Parker to Sucker Punch, as this is only his second professional fight and first outside the QFC! Parker lost that first QFC fight, but in the process found out that he had a granite chin! Not an awful day after all! Now in that fight, he was clinched, taken down, abused a little bit in some GnP…and then submitted. So yeah, he certainly paid for that bit of information, but I’m going to assume that the kid has some confidence and didn’t walk away with his head down. He’s very well rounded with strong boxing, exceptional Muay Thai, strong wrestling and a purple belt in BJJ. We can’t be totally sure what approach he’ll take tomorrow with such limited information to go on, so this will be a learning experience for us all!

Parker’s opponent and dance partner for the evening, Jones, has superb boxing, exceptional Muay Thai as well, respectable wrestling and a blue belt. In his prior fights he’s had a tendency to clinch up and try to dish out the abuse from that angle. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if that is the approach taken in this one. Parker may be well served to try out his advantage on the ground against Jones.

What do you have for us, Donkey...?

Donkey’s Pick: Parker via Submission (Armbar)

These two are well matched and it’s going to be a great, hard fought fight. That’s not to say that I’d be surprised if somebody knocked somebody else on their ass early! Because I wouldn’t. But Jones also has a granite chin, so these two may be able to bang and take it without somebody’s jaw letting them down. So I’m thinking perhaps the edge goes to the guy who can get it to the ground instead and potentially win. I’m going to lean on the purple belt for that.

*********

Undercard Bout #5: Light Heavyweight

OJ Simpson (1-0-0) vs. Naizen Kamenashi (5-3-0)

Bad news here Donkey! You know how much we love Head Kicks that knock a guy the hell out right? And you know how Kamenashi has a history of pulling those off eh? Well…unfortunately you may not see that tomorrow night.

Kamenashi lost a decision to Steven Jones last month, and word on the street has it he’s been moping around and not really focusing at all. His morale has been in the absolute dumps and doesn’t appear to have improved even a tiny bit since then. That’s not a good sign for this fight. At least, not for Kamenashi and his camp!

Kamenashi has the advantage in terms of age and amount of time he’s been training his craft. But Simpson comes in with a boxing and Muay Thai edge, suggesting he may actually be the favorite to dominate the standup in this bout. Simpson hasn’t fought since March, so it’s hard to take much from that other than that he’s got a good chin. Other than that, we’re going to learn some things about this kid tomorrow night!

Donkey, who are you taking in this one…?

Donkey’s Pick: Simpson via TKO (Strikes)

Zero morale means Zero Chance…at least 90% of the time. We all love Kamenashi’s flair and the excitement he brings to the cage, but you can’t do that if your morale is shit. And that’s what his is now. Also, his manager has been AWOL for the past 11 days, not a good sign. That means he probably hasn’t strategized for this fight at all…so there’s no adjustment to perhaps try for the ground game, which is where he might have had the advantage, try to fix the morale, which is critical, etc. This is Simpson’s to win…he just has to follow through and get the job done!

*********

Main Card Bout #1: Light Heavyweight

Joe Junior (2-1-0) vs. Hemmo Karhu (2-1-0)

We move into the Main Card here with our fifth fight of the evening and with that, two young warriors who both come to the table with 2-1 records! On top of that, they also will NOT make Donkey unhappy, as both of these fighters are fully prepared to GET IT ON!

We’ll have your classic standup versus ground game battle here! Joe Junior holds the upper hand in both boxing and wrestling, with the big advantage really being his boxing. Karhu on the other hand holds a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu against Junior’s blue belt. Both come off back to back wins ever since they got knocked out of the Sorter Series tournament in the first round! So heck of a way to bounce back for both!

Junior worked his boxing to a decision victory two fights ago against Michael Rubio, stuffing an absurd number of takedown attempts both from the clinch and separation in the process. If he can do that again tonight against Karhu, he’ll do well for himself and stay out of harm’s way on the ground in the process. His best bet in this fight may be to try to duplicate what he did in his last fight against Karol Krawczyk, with a victory via knockout in 53 seconds! But wouldn’t all of our fighters like to be able to do that at will, eh?

There’s no secret to Karhu’s plan. Take you down, and submit your sorry ass as quickly and efficiently as possible. He did that two fights ago against Some Body in just under four minutes with an armbar, and then he did it again against John Popeye in just under two minutes for a victory with a rear naked choke! He’s going to have to tread carefully though, as he’s up against a fighter in Junior tonight who can knock you out if you don’t come in with a proper respect for the skills against you. And he’s been KO’d before, with that loss in the first round of the Sorter Series coming against Dougie Mcphee who got him via a single KO Punch to start the second round. So while he has a granite chin…it can be gotten to and Junior has KO Power!

Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Junior via TKO (Strikes)

This is an amazingly tough fight to pick! Two very, very tough fighters, with skills that rival one another, just in separate areas of the MMA world. I’m going to go with the older fighter in this one, having the thought that perhaps he still has a slight advantage in physicals and other development due to age. However, at this point, that advantage is quickly fading and this fight is really anybody’s guess! It’ll be great!

*********

Main Card Bout #2: Light Heavyweight

Soons Sam (2-0-0) vs. Mike Bard (2-1-0)

Moving right along Donkey! Next up, two fighters who have also started their careers out on the right foot!

Well, up till now at least. Soons Sam is 2-0…but after tomorrow, I’m guessing that Donkey may predict 2-1. That’s because he comes into this fight at about 60% morale and 70% energy. Not a good combination! Add to that the fact that he’s likely going to need to drop some weight before the fight…he could be in for a rough night. He has a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu, the one area of advantage, and tends to use that along with his wrestling to give himself opportunities both with strikes on the ground as well as submission chances.

Bard took Hasanov to a split decision in his last fight and pulled out the victory. He handled himself well on the ground, taking advantage of his reasonably decent wrestling combined with a blue belt to stay alive and even do some damage at times. He was submitted by Titus Fury previously, who has a purple belt similar to Sam. Something he’ll have to be very careful with if he decides not to keep this fight on the feet.

Donkey, what are you thinking…?

Donkey’s Pick: Bard via TKO (Strikes)

I cannot go with Sam in this one simply because he has too many factors going against him with the low(ish) morale and energy. Combine that with his manager having not logged in in the past 4 days, it’s unlikely he’s going to recover any of that in time to make a better run at this fight tomorrow. This one should be Bard’s to lose or win. If he plans well, executes and stays focused, this should be the opportunity he needs to move to a very nice 3-1 record.

*********

Main Card Bout #3: Heavyweight

Boris Balkan (3-2-0) vs. Kingston Wall (5-3-0)

Our only Heavyweight matchup of the card will finish off the fights leading up to the two Main Events! Balkan is a newcomer to Sucker Punch after previously fighting with HFC and then a single fight with Florida Fight Squad after that until he aged out. Wall also comes to us ready to make his Sucker Punch debut after fighting in FFS as well for a while and Openweight MMA before that.

Both of these guys have lost their last two fights leading up to this bout, so they have to be looking at this as an opportunity to rebound and build some momentum. But who will want it more of these two big boys?!?

Wall is a 20 year old who comes in at a 278 lb walking weight and stands at 200 cm tall. Balkan gives up 18 lbs of walking weight but stands 7 cm taller. Balkan will be the better Muay Thai fighter, while Wall is more advanced boxer and wrestler. Both boast purple belts in BJJ.

Early in his career, Wall showed himself to be determined, but also to have a tendency to cut. That was never more evident than in his last fight, a decision loss in a one round, three minute fight that almost had to be stopped due to how badly he cut and bled! Look for Wall to try to use his boxing skills to end this one early before he can sustain too much damage or get taken down, although as the better wrestler of the two that may not be such a bad thing!

For Balkan, although he has won via submission and shown he’s not afraid to tumble around on the floor if forced into that situation, he’s done most of his damage standing. Although he’s more skilled at Muay Thai, most of the damage he’s ever done has been at range with his boxing. And he’s tended to land some heavy shots! He too, has seemed to have a history of showing some cuts in the last few fights, so that’s something to watch although it’s never been specifically shown that he has that tendency.

Donkey, over to you, what do you have…?

Donkey’s Pick: Balkan via TKO (Cuts)

Another SUPER difficult fight to pick a winner in! Which is awesome! Both men are prepared, so that doesn’t help me eliminate one from consideration as a strong candidate to win. Both are 20 years old, with Wall having been training a slightly longer period of time. Those cuts for Wall are worrying me a little bit though and I’m going to go out on a limb here and suspect that in a hard hitting fight like this one, that is scheduled for three rounds…if he can’t end it quickly they could come into play. This is anybody’s guess though! I expect a great fight!

*********

Co-Main Event

Light Heavyweight Bout

Aleks Kuznetsov (2-0-0) vs. Harold Kerzner (2-0-0)

Our Co-Main Event and these two gladiators are nothing less than a couple of monsters at Light Heavyweight! Many, and myself included, consider this to be a battle between two top fighters in the division! With that said, I’m thrilled that both of these guys are coming into this fight 100% ready to go, just about as maxed out as you get both with morale and energy. Hopefully they’ve put just as much preparation into their fight plans, as the winner of this fight will be setting themselves up as top contender!

Kuznetsov is a beast who can and will hit you ridiculously hard. At 20 years old, he has a ton of development in front of him still, but has already taken out Rober Shafer in the QFC via TKO and Dougie Mcphee here in Sucker Punch via the same, with an impressive kick and punches finish in just 39 seconds! He will hold the advantage over Kerzner in both areas of standup, although I’d be surprised if he clinches up in this. Instead, I expect him to continue doing more of the same…punch, kick and pound as hard as he can!

Kerzner has won both of his fights via submission. He has exceptional wrestling and a blue belt in BJJ. It’s surprising that he’s managed to win both via subs given only a blue belt, but clearly along with such impressive wrestling he’s managed to put it together in a way that works well for him, and badly for others! He’s clearly going to want this on the ground, it’s just a matter of whether he can do so without getting knocked out by Kuznetsov in the process!

Donkey, you have a call here…?

Donkey’s Pick: Kuznetsov via TKO (Strikes)

Kuznetsov also has a blue belt but we’ve not seen him have to use it yet. I’m going to assume it brings some level of ground defense and that may help if this does go to the ground. If he can get the standup again without being finished by Kerzner, he should be able to pull out the win. But a ground specialist who has proven he can submit is always dangerous. This is going to be an outstanding fight to watch, and will set up a top contender for us!

*********

Main Event

Light Heavyweight Bout

Wille Thai (3-0-0) vs. Sacrificial Lamb (4-1-0)

And here we go with our Main Event of the evening tomorrow, and a title on the line! This fight between Thai and Lamb will determine our very first Light Heavyweight Sucker Punch Pro Series champion, and cap off a 4 month long Sorter Series tournament!

It’s hard for me to be completely objective and unbiased here. My own guy is in this fight. Not something I’m overly happy about, but I’ve been assured by everybody who has spoken up that given this was a tournament, there’s no foul play here. While I won’t throw a fight, and therefore will put forth my best effort preparing Lamb, I won’t be upset if he doesn’t win and I’m not stuck in that position! There is some tough competition coming up the ranks, let somebody else deal with them! Ha!

That being said, I think the intentions for both of these fighters are very, very transparent. Thai is a ground specialist who loves to take you down and put the submission on. I don’t think it’s any secret that he will try to succeed where Titus Fury failed in the last round, and that’s to get Lamb on the canvas and make him tap out. The difference here, and what is probably going to be the difference maker in this contest, is that Thai comes into this thing with full morale and energy. Titus Fury had only half his morale, if that. That kept him from getting the takedowns. Thai should have much more confidence…and with it, much more success I’d think.

Lamb approach will be no secret either. Hope that his ability to keep from being taken down, and instead impose his will in standup, was indeed not due to the morale issue and simply due to him doing a good job defending. If he can reproduce the results from his last fight, he may have a shot at this one. Otherwise, this is going to get ugly fast if it goes to the ground. Lamb’s approach won’t change, he’s going to bring the pain…if he can!

Donkey, what do you have…?

Donkey’s Pick: Thai via Submission (Armbar)

I keep picking against Lamb, and I keep getting it wrong! You could look at it one of two ways, assume you’ve just been wrong, and finally go with the Lamb bandwagon…or…assume that eventually you’ll get it right! I think in this contest, it may be too difficult to stop the takedown from happening, and once it does, the party is likely over for Lamb. Thai is a strong competitor…he’s going to have the edge here. But don’t count out Lamb if he can land a few and take the wind out of Thai!

*********

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

Phew! Hopefully you guys are as excited for this card as I am! Of course, I have a little something-something going on in it, so maybe that’s it? Nah, I just get amped up for our events is all! These Light Heavyweights are anything BUT Lightweights, and that’s not to disparage our Lightweight division guys! They should bring some epic clashes tomorrow night, can’t wait to be there with all the fans!

Hang in there and be ready for a heck of a nght…Till then…

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series 355k+ style!

Sacrificial Lamb

"Man, that was one crazy fight!!! I have to give full props to Thai, that man is a warrior and just kept coming! I knew I had to keep this fight on the feet if I wanted any shot...and when Thai got me down in the first round...wow, talk about a bit of panic! My corner tells me I still managed to look cool and collected, but I'm not gonna lie, I was in full panic mode! Getting through that round alive let me settle down a little, but it didn't help that Thai just brought the heat again in Round 2...really put the pressure on me and forced me to sorta pray to stay alive for almost the entire round!"

"Every shot I dished out in this thing it seemed like he just took it and kept coming at me. I was starting to wonder if we were going to be able to pull it off! There was one point, we were down there on the mat and he got hold of my leg man...I thought it was over! I was rolling for my life trying to break free and thank god, managed to do it...but damn that was close! Even after I rocked this dude in the third, he still came back at me! WTF?!? Anyway, wow, I take my hat off to Thai, that was a heck of a spin around the cage man!"

Mr Takahashi: Yes we see he finish in ten seconds, Longsun took at least twice as long as that to finish with Miss Sophia Gunderson.

POST EVENT CHEAP SHOTS

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT COCKSHOT SORTER SERIES: FINALS

Well folks, it’s the day after, as they say, and dannnnnnng!!! We had some surprises, we had a lot of fast finishes and we definitely had ourselves some fun last night down at the Bondi Outdoor Arena in Sydney! I’m Hare Rumpler along with Donkey “Dan”, our esteemed analyst…(yes, he made me say that!)…and our go-getter media correspondent, Suzy Sucker Punch!

Now that we have only one more Sorter Series based card, the one for the Lightweights next week, be sure to reach out to me folks and let me know how things are going. If you think there are big issues with the way I’m matching or running things, tell me man, and we can discuss. Obviously I do have firm beliefs that for an ID restricted org, P4P and WC rankings mean very little (if not shit) to me from a ranking of fighters perspective goes. I know it means something to the managers at times, especially as it plays into their own ranking or the pop/hype of fighters, but I have to worry more about good, competitive, skill for skill fights for the org more than that. So I pay much more attention to overall skill estimate, age and ID relation to one another and the way those may play in, record and who they’ve fought recently, etc. I think that should be pretty obvious by the things you hear from me in the previews and such, as I touch on some of those things now and then and when you see us making the picks.

Anyways, anything we can do to make this the most entertaining, fair, competitive and fun org for you guys is something I want to hear guys! In the meantime, I know lots of you have told me that you’re really, really happy with things and I love that shit! Really do! But without constantly reaching out to you guys, I don’t want to become blind to any issues.

With that said, I’ve taken up the majority of my time for a long-winded intro here, so screw it, lets just get into the fun of this one! This card was almost solely a Light Heavyweight card, with one sparring session test fight and one Heavyweight fight right before the Main Events. And, we got to belt our first Light Heavyweight champ! Oh, and talk about crazy…all but the test fight ended in TKO and one KO last night!!! That’s a bit nuts honestly. No subs at all!

It’s time to hear about our merchandise partner and sponsor, and then move on to the good stuff!

Undercard Bout #1: Lightweight Sparring Session

Naftali Waithaka Defeats Mardtlek Sitsongrit via Unanimous Decision

The evening started out with a little light sparring session between two of my Yabai mates here and a couple of their young wannabe fighters!

The result here really wasn’t what mattered so much as what these managers could learn about their fighters, and that information was going to lead to a decision on whether to retain their services or not!

And looking at this fight, I don’t really think these guys were putting a lot into these shots. This truly was just a go out there and bounce around the cage a bit, slap each other a little, maybe play a little grab-ass, that sorta thing. Waithaka wins, so we do learn that Sitsongrit lost about 20% or so of his morale. That’s not ideal, but not a killer either. For Theksit, it may come down to what else he knows about this guy.

Donkey, what else can we take from this…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

For Waithaka, he won the fight, so we learned nothing about his morale, but in the Tale of the Tape, we did learn that he’s determined. Now, here’s the thing, normally for a lot of managers, that might be an insta-sack. Not as much as finding out he likes pizza, or god forbid, cuts easily, but still, many would. I’ve been hearing through the grapevine that Esiah Xavier is rethinking that and might want to see what else he can learn about this guy first. Sitsongrit showed KO Power, and I’m sure that if he made it to a test fight he’s probably got a least a reasonably fast learning speed. So, will Theksit be happy with that morale drop? I guess we’ll see!

Undercard Bout #2: Light Heavyweight

John Popeye Defeats Marat Mustafaev via TKO (Strikes)

Well here we go, and it didn’t take long to get our first big surprise of the evening, at least not for me and Donkey! Popeye came into this one a little low on morale…not as low as he had in his prior fight…but still low. For that reason, in what Donkey thought would be a very closely fought contest, he leaned towards Mustafaev.

That’s not how it went. This one ended just short of the bell which was great timing for Popeye, and well, not such great timing for Mustafaev. If only he’d been able to hold on for three more seconds, he may have turned this thing around. Popeye controlled the fight for the most part throughout the round, taking the fight to the clinch when he wanted to, which was fine by Mustafaev as he tried nine times to get it there and only succeeded once. Both in and out of the clinch these guys were finding a fair amount of success, but not a ton of activity as each were being fairly methodical in their approach and when they dished out the strikes. Popeye was doing a bit better when separated, but in the clinch Mustafaev was the more active fighter.

In the last minute, heck, 30 seconds of the round, Popeye went for his second takedown attempt of the round and landed this one. Now, Popeye has been very successful in the past with his ground and pound game…and it went into high gear with a quickness here! A few shots landed, with Mustafaev weathering it…that is, until Popeye started landing some wicked hammer fists! Those rocked Mustafaev bad, giving Popeye the incentive he needed to really land a big shot or two to put this thing away!

Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

I really did think the morale would factor in more and potentially be a deciding factor in this one! Popeye proved that theory wrong though and impressed with a big win where he controlled the action throughout most of the fight. His ground game was much too strong for Mustafaev to overcome, especially from the bottom. For Popeye, this helps him stay close to .500 and potentially in a position to rebound. Mustafaev has to be disappointed to lose one that looked winnable, but that’s why they aren’t fought on paper!

Undercard Bout #3: Light Heavyweight

Ali Hasanov Defeats Leon Chaster via TKO (Strikes)

This fight was ready made for Hasanov to walk off with a victory, so long as he focused on taking care of business! This is not to say that it was a tilted or unfair fight, because it wasn’t. Skillwise, these two were a very good matchup. But Chaster came in with low morale, his manager MIA for quite some time, and…no gym to train in. He’d run out of cash and his manager wasn’t bothering to pay attention, so he was left on the street.

All that added up to a fight that Hasanov could and should win. And he definitely came out and took care of business! Half a minute in, Hasanov dropped Chaster with a right hook, cutting him and rocking his world! Chaster was trying to clinch up, probably to get a breather, but Hasanov was having none of that and countered well, letting Chaster pay for the attempts.

Chaster was mostly covering up and playing a defensive game at this point, praying for a takedown if he could get it most likely so he could rest out of harm’s way, but that wasn’t happening either. Just after the two minute mark Hasanov came over the top with a right that caught Chaster and send him down…and a few strikes later it was all over with the ref stepping in!

Over to you Donkey, what do ya have for us…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Everybody knew what was coming in this one, there was no secret to how this fight was going to end. Hasanov moves to a very nice 7-3 record and helps put himself up there on the ladder in a position to start pressing for a shot at the belt potentially sometime in the future! Chaster was cut by the org shortly after this fight, as a fighter with no morale and an absent manager doesn’t do anybody any good. Well, except for Hasanov! Ha.

Undercard Bout #4: Light Heavyweight

Jacob Parker Defeats Steven Jones via TKO (Strikes)

This fight was all about finding out which of these two was closest to being a potential top contender. The intent was that whoever won would face another top candidate next month, and the winner of that fight would become top contender for the month after.

I think it’s safe to say that Jacob Parker sent the message loud and clear that he is indeed ready to potentially become the top contender! At just over a minute, this fight was over quickly, with the two exchanging a couple shots early…Jones even landing a nice head kick…but Parker finding a way to sneak a beauty of a left hook through that tagged Jones up just right and sent him down!

Jones was already in trouble, but when he went down Parker managed to gain mount, and that was just a god awful position for Jones to be in. He started taking some nasty shots, with one final one landing that send Jones into La La Land and put an end to it!

What do you have for us, Donkey...?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Jones tried to clinch up once, but was unable to get there, and that may be the difference here. Had he achieved the clinch, maybe he could have changed the direction of things and let his strikes take their toll rather than the other way around. With two granite chins, I am a little surprised this one didn’t go longer, but sometimes a punch lands just right! Parker sets himself up nicely for a showdown for top contender, so the next fight will be a big one for his young fighter!

Suzy spoke with Parker the next day as he was getting ready to head out from the hotel…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Jacob, this fight was a chance to really make a statement. Do you feel it went well?

Jacob Parker: Told you I would leave him out cold on the mat.

Suzy Sucker Punch: I think the message was delivered, and nobody can say you don’t follow through!

Undercard Bout #5: Light Heavyweight

OJ Simpson Defeats Naizen Kamenashi via KO (Punch)

Well, we knew we probably weren’t going to see some super exciting, crowd titillating head kick to end this one tonight, but that didn’t keep us from hoping for it! Now, let me make this clear, that’s not because we were rooting for or against Simpson or Kamenashi in this…it’s just that we were rooting for the fun of a head kick!

Alas, the likelihood of that happening was very low tonight, at least if it was expected to come from Kamenashi. He came into this fight with zero, zilcha, nada, empty morale! That being said, he actually lasted a lot longer in this contest than I would have expected, pushing it to almost the halfway point of the second round!

Simpson came out and dominated this one with his boxing. He doesn’t really seem to do kicks, so this was strictly boxing, no KT going on for him! Donkey, I guess that’s why the glove must fit?!? Haha. I kill myself…er, well, better me than him eh? Ha, again! I just can’t be stopped! Anyways, two fights in a row now where Simpson has gotten it done with the hands, and from a standup perspective, he looks like the real thing!

Kamenashi came out and tried to do exactly what you’d expect from him, which is punch, kick..a lot…hell, I’m surprised there was no biting from this guy! But he just wasn’t able to get stuff to land…maybe that’s why he finally just got frustrated in the second round and did it Donkey! Yep, you know what I mean! He put the “Sucker Punch” in this Pro Series baby! About a minute and a half into the second Kamenashi must have finally gotten frustrated…and BAM!...a knee right to the boys for Simpson!

Now let’s be fair here Donkey, I’m sure that shot was an accident…I mean, Kamenashi even said he was sorry for crying out loud! Of course, I wouldn’t be surprised if Simpson, a little more than a minute later, said, “I’m sorry” with just as little sincerity when he faked a body shot, and then left hooked Kamenashi into Thursday! Oooh, what a shot that was, and that boys, is what you get with a hide-away pet…or a pissed off Simpson apparently!

Donkey, how about that one eh…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Simpson did what he was supposed to do, and that’s win! Against a guy with no morale, there’s no excuse for anything less. Now, that shot to the cojones was totally uncalled for, but it doesn’t surprise me one bit that it just thrilled you to death there Hare! Kamenashi needs to rebound from this loss, which makes it two in a row, and get that morale back in order. He’s a fierce and exciting fighter when he’s properly prepared, we want more of that guy and less of this guy! For Simpson, he’s taken a big step towards contender status. Word on the street is that his next fight, if he wins, will set him up for a fight that could make him top contender! So it’s time to get that focus on and prepare big time this month!

Suzy was able to catch up with James McCarthy, Simpson’s manager, in the hallway as he was heading to check on his fighter after the contest…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Mr. McCarthy…Hi! Just a minute of your time? Your fighter went out there and had a great fight. Do you have any thoughts on how things went?

James McCarthy: Respect to OJ’s opponent for not sniffing his crotch!

Suzy Sucker Punch: Okay, well, I’ve never been in the cage, so I don’t know how common it is for that to happen guys…but um, yeah, seems like a reasonable thing to respect I guess? Um…yeah, back to you guys!

Main Card Bout #1: Light Heavyweight

Hemmo Karhu Defeats Joe Junior via TKO (Strikes)

Dang Donkey, you finally got a wrong pick here again! You were doing pretty darn well there for a bit! Karhu comes out in the battle of the 2-1’s and gets things done, earning himself to 3-1 and setting himself up very pretty in terms of his standing in the division!

Boy, did Karhu surprise us a little bit in this one! Because he managed to take Junior down? No…we expected that was the plan for Karhu. Now, admittedly, Donkey did pick Junior to win, but he also said this was an extremely tough one to pick. No, Karhu surprised us because while he did make a sub attempt on the ground, he focused largely on the GnP which isn’t what we thought he was going to do! And it did it well, really…really well! Landing eleven for eleven will pretty much put you in control of things and lay down some serious punishment, and these weren’t your little slap-fest type shots…these were damage inducing shots!

Junior was trying to improve his position down there, but despite having worked on his wrestling in the week leading up to the fight, he just wasn’t able to get away and get out of the really bad situation he was in. Karhu took full advantage, posturing up and dropping bombs…and they took their toll, leading to a ref stoppage as Junior was desperately trying to just get away and taking too much damage.

Donkey, how bout that…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Really impressive performance for Karhu to grab control of this one early, put the fight where he wanted it, and pretty much take away the danger of the standup from Junior. He’s given himself a great opportunity with this win as he moves to 3-1 and now gets a chance to go into an elimination style match that will see the winner fight to become top contender! For Junior, this one was disappointing, but at the same time may have gone differently if the takedown hadn’t happened so quickly. He’ll come back focused and ready to go, no doubt.

Main Card Bout #2: Light Heavyweight

Mike Bard Defeats Soons Sam via TKO (Strikes)

Ok, we’re getting there Donkey! We move on to our seventh fight of the evening here with a contest that lasted just under four minutes!

Soons Sam was the one to take this fight to the ground just a few seconds into the fight. But he, well, soon…found out that that might be a mistake, as Bard soon had the reversal. Once that happened, the ground and pound was on like Donkey Kong in this fight and Bard was more or less relentless at that point. His transitions were coming off about every other time and he was landing some nasty shots.

With Sam unable to escape or improve his position the entire arena could just feel that the was in trouble and this was not going to end well. That was never more true than when Bard passed to mount! The end was near, and everybody knew it, I think the ref included…Bard had Sam covering up and was just firing off shots and the ref was forced to step in!

Donkey, anything additional to add…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Sam had a lot going against him in this like we said in the preview. Between the low morale and energy along with an MIA manager, he was at a true disadvantage before the fight ever started. It seemed as if his heart was never really in this fight and Bard was able to take over with ease. For Bard, he improves to a 3-1 record and will now get an opportunity to see if he can make his way to a top contender battle. One more fight, and he could find himself looking at a chance to potentially become the next up to see if he’s ready for a title shot!

Main Card Bout #3: Heavyweight

Boris Balkan Defeats Kingston Wall via TKO (Cut)

Our only non-Light Heavyweight fight of the night, if you don’t count the opening sparring bout, was this battle between two Heavyweights! Both came in with winning records and an opportunity to improve them further.

This is where we get to hear it from Donkey…there was no avoiding this if he got it right, and he did! We had mentioned in the preview that Wall had shown a tendency to cut early in his career and in his fight prior to this one, it became a bit of an issue. That fight wasn’t called by the doc, but the cuts were getting bad. With this fight likely staying on the feet we knew there was a possibility those cuts were going to come into play again, and Donkey even predicted the fight would be won via TKO (Cut)…and he called it dead on.

Wall wasn’t able to land a high percentage of his strikes in this fight. He was cut early, just twenty seconds or so into the fight, and you have to wonder if that immediately started bothering him and his vision both from an offensive and defensive standpoint?

Balkan was laying it on and landing more than a third of his strikes, with every other shot making the cut on Wall worse and worse. By the time this fight got halfway through the first round, it already looked as if a slasher film had been made in the middle of the cage! A nice little surprise waiting for the two Main Events to be sure!

Wall can take a punch, that’s for sure…as Balkan landed more than enough tough shots. But with the cuts getting worse, we were just waiting for the ref to call the doc in. Sure enough, just seconds before the end of the first round, he did just that. I think he wanted to prevent these two from having to bother coming out of their corners again for Round 2 if you ask me, knowing that he was going to have to end this anyway.

Donkey, nailed this one huh…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

You never want to see what could have been just an amazingly good fight end this way! Sure enough, the tendencies we’d seen and the inability for that to hold up in a toe to toe bang-fest came to be. That cut was just awful, and I don’t blame the doc for ending it. We won’t know whether it really was what affected Wall and if this fight would have been closer or not unless we see these two fight again. The problem for Wall is, that kind of tendency can shorten a career. Balkan will take this win and run with it, that’s for sure! He goes to 4-2 and continues to move up the ladder!

Co-Main Event

Light Heavyweight Bout

Aleks Kuznetsov Defeats Harold Kerzner via TKO (Strikes)

Our Co-Main Event was all about determining a top contender. Kuznetsov declared in no uncertain terms that HE is that top contender between these two!

We knew Kuznetsov was a beast. Kerzner’s camp had probably tried to prepare him for that as well, no doubt. And I also have no doubt they had a plan they wanted to try to enact to counter things. They never got the chance. The bell rang…and Kerzner got clobbered with an uppercut that left him figuring out what was where…and then tagged with a right hand that had him stumbling and bumbling back into the cage!

Kuznetsov came in at that point like a charging bull, seeing red and looking for the kill! The strikes were flying, Kerzner was bobbing and weaving just trying to get his composure back, but Kuznetsov was relentless and another uppercut landed and ended it! Five seconds folks. That’s what that took, FIVE seconds.

Donkey, finish this up ok…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Kuznetsov needed just five seconds as you said to assert his dominance on this night and declare himself the top contender. And in doing so, he also set the new record for Fastest KO for Light Heavyweights…oh, and Fastest KO overall for all weight classes and Fastest overall Finish for them as well! The place was insane with this finish and had them fired and up ready to go for the Main Event!

Main Event

Light Heavyweight CSS Championship Bout: #9 vs. #15

Sacrificial Lamb vs.Wille Thai

Ladies and gentlemen, our Main Event! Finally after several long months we were ready to belt a first ever Light Heavyweight Champion for Sucker Punch!

Wille Thai did the near impossible and managed to navigate his way through a talented field all the way to the Finals from the #15 seed in the tournament. Likewise, much to my surprise, my own boy, Sacrificial Lamb, who was intended to be just that…managed to make it here from the #9 seed!

After that last fight, the crowd was all fired up and ready to see what we all hoped would be a great one! Well, they got their money’s worth, as I believe this was a fantastic fight, but I could be somewhat biased! Either way…get Ready Donkey…because here’s the replay of Juice Fluffer heading into the cage to get this fight rolling…

3d8a168f5f8ff8e520307ef15bdabf4c.png

Juice Fluffer enters the cage…

“Ladies and gentlemen…this is the Maaaain Event of the evening!”

“The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and Summer Carpenter.”

“Our sponsor for this event is Shadow Warrior Nutrition.”

“Annnnnnnd Now! The moment Sucker Punch Pro Series fans around the world have been waiting for!”

“LIVE!, from The Bondi Outdoor Arena in Sydney, Australia…”

“Iiiiit’s TIME! Three rounds for the Undisputed Sucker Punch Pro Series Light Heavyweight Championship of the World!”

“Introducing first…to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With professional record of three wins, NO losses and NO draws, he stands 195 centimeters tall, weighing in at 205 pounds and 19 years of age, representing Stockholm, Sweden and fighting out of London, England…the number fifteen seed overall in the Sucker Punch Light Heavyweight Cockshot Sorter Series, Willlllllleeeee….THAAAAIIIIIIIII!!!

“And now introducing…to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a professional record of four wins, one loss and NO draws, he stands 183 centimeters tall, weighing in at 204 pounds and 20 years of age, from Boise, Idaho, United states and fighting out of Amsterdam, Netherlands…the number nine seed overall in the Sucker Punch Light Heavyweight Cockshot Sorter Series, “Muttonnnnnn”…Sacrificiaaaaaaaal...LAMMMMMMMMMB!!!

And we were off folks!!! Now the biggest thing going into this fight for Lamb was to avoid the takedowns. If he could keep this thing on the feet, he’d stand a chance, at least that’s what we told him during the camp leading up to this fight. For Thai, undoubtedly his crew was telling him the opposite…do not leave this on the feet, get it to the ground baby!

For the first three and a half minutes of this fight, things were going pretty much to plan for Lamb. It was staying on the feet, he’d managed to prevent the takedown attempts and he was landing good strikes from distance, and then from in the clinch. Damage was definitely getting done and it had to be building some confidence for him. But then the whole thing went sideways, and Thai got the takedown! And immediately, the sub attempts began. Lamb visited the Sucker Punch forums after the fight, and we know that at this point, he pretty much was in a panic. And damn well he should have been, Thai is a proven ground specialist who has had a ton of success on the ground and with his submission game!

Somehow that round actually came to an end without a finish. Most likely leaving a somewhat frustrated Thai returning to his corner and a thankful Lamb heading to his. The second round goes, and Lamb goes back to work doing the expected, trying to score from standup, and for the first minute or so, he’s successful again. Then…the nightmare begins anew, and Thai lands the takedown from a counter! And…queue the sub attempts! Again, surprisingly for I think just about all of us, Lamb was doing well to maintain composure to a degree and fend off the attempts!

As we learned later, there was a point about halfway to the fourth minute where Thai almost had a kneebar…and apparently not only did we up in the booth think that it was almost over, but Lamb thought so as well! He was rolling for his life and not only managed to get out of it, but then got a reversal and was able to stand up! Thai got the takedown again to end the round, with a couple more attempts thrown in there, but it seems Lamb may have gotten some confidence at this point.

The third round comes and Lamb apparently decided to hell with being taken down, just go straight to the clinch! He did…and started to do the good ole tenderize and pulverize routine, wearing Thai down further…to the point where finally he was able to rock him after about a minute! To Thai’s credit, big time, he managed to recover…and hold in there. Eventually, with enough clinch and abuse, Lamb was able to finally wear him down though and a little short of four minutes into the third, the finish came with a huge uppercut from in close...wow! It was one HELL of a fight Donkey!!

Juice Fluffer enters as the referee has both fighters in the middle of the cage…

“Ladies and gentlemen, our referee has called a stop to this contest at three minutes and forty-seven seconds of round number three…”

“Declaring the winner…by Technical Knockout…ANNNNNNDDDD NEWWWWWW…Sucker Punch Pro Series…Undisputed…Light Heavyweight Champion of the World…Muuuuuttton…Sacrificiaaaaaal…LAMMMMMMMMBB!!!!

WE HAVE A CHAMPION DONKEY! We have a champ! You have anything else…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Well, I keep picking against Lamb, and he keeps somehow finding a way! Maybe someday I’ll learn my lesson, but probably not. This was a great fight, at the risk of sounding a bit like a homer here. Thai could have had this thing at any number of points throughout, and I’m sure is still shaking his head wondering how he wasn’t able to finish this thing with so many chances on the ground. For his part, Lamb has to be credited with staying strong under pressure, having been taken to the most dangerous place for him, the ground against a fighter like Thai, and somehow emerging victorious. Good on both of these guys, it’s a fight I’d watch any day of the week, one of our own fighters or not! Now…Thai gets to go back, regroup, and plan for his return back to contender status. For Lamb…ha…prepare for pain, as now EVERYBODY is gunning for you son!

Suzy was down cage side to grab a joyful Sacrificial Lamb as he exited the cage…the new champ…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Mutton, against all the odds, and all the naysayers, even some from your own management team, indicating they didn’t think you could survive against a ground game like Thai’s…you came out on top and are the first ever Sucker Punch Light Heavyweight champion! What did it take?

Sacrificial Lamb: Well, Suzy, first let tip my hat to my competition in there tonight. That was a hell of a fight, I was in trouble more than once, and Thai is an amazing competitor. If he’d won, he’d be well deserving of that belt! Now…about expectations for me going in. Yeah Suzy, management came to me before this whole thing started and told me they needed me in this tourney. Told me to just go out there, do my best, but you know, kinda lay low. They actually implied that it was my job to do well, but not too well, as if I was supposed to just be…there for the sake of being there, but don’t make them look bad by my winning the tournament. Well Suzy, and please, don’t take this the wrong way, this is not in any way aimed at you…I’d never speak to you like this…but let me tell you what I told them! I told them, in the immortal words of RATM…”Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!” I’m not here to be led off to slaughter or be anybody’s sacrifice…I’m here to do my best…now bring the best!

Suzy Sucker Punch: Well there you go guys! If ever there was a message to be sent, in this case more so…well, at you Hare…I think…than even the other guys in the division…I think it’s been delivered loud and clear! Lamb will not do as you tell him!

*********

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

That was an exciting one folks, and I don’t think it was just because one of my guys was in this one. I’m sure it added to it for me, but overall, talk about a night of hard hitting action! Just about every fight ending in TKO or KO, no submissions the entire evening, talk about some heart pounding excitement and energy!

I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did…hang in there till next weekend and…till then…

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series 355k+ style!

Alright folks, here is the first set of rankings for the Light Heavyweights as they join all of the other divisions, minus the Lightweights. The Lightweights will finish their Sorter Series next weekend and then we'll have rankings for all divisions at that time!

As I've said every time, I'm not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I do put a lot of effort in when looking at the fighters in the divisions. I'm not a big believer in P4P or WC rankings for ID Restricted orgs, and certainly not for newer ones unlike, let's say, 340k which would be more established and the fighters would usually have a lot more fights under their belts. Instead, I tend to look much more closely at overall skill ratings, records in and out of the org, who they've fought, ID, age, etc. both when setting up the rankings as well as when I do the matchmaking. Just know that while it may not be perfect, and while this may not closely match the listing if you look at the org's division by hype/pop, WC rank or P4P rank, there has been a lot of thought and time spent on it! But hey, if you disagree, let's chat...but just know that a throat punch or kick to the taint is not beneath me! LOL!

I'm posting them here, but the current rankings for each division as they are established will always be available here: http://www.mmatycoon...=65096&p=910173

SP-Rankings-205-20200807.png

Light Heavyweights unranked outside the Top 10 at this time, but on the bubble: Harold Kerzner / Tito Slamcock / John Popeye / Soons Sam / Joe Junior

Also unranked outside the Top 10 at this time: Jerome Blunt / Titus Fury / Devin Ecker / Naizen Kamenashi / Jon Snow / Some Body

Hey, DJ (Costune), let's spin that fight back...

My fists are steel, my balls are hot.

Last time I hit you, you forgot where you at.

This time I'll show you, it wasn't a joke.

Cause again I'll be cramming my fist down your throat.

Suzy Sucker Punch: Wow guys! Did any of you realize that Ronnie Bass was a poet? Costune has some set of skills to deal with in this fight!

Sucker Punch Preview

LIGHTWEIGHT COCKSHOT SORTER SERIES: FINALS

Welcome, welcome, welcome Sucker Punch Fans! I’m Hare Rumpler along with my partner and analyst, Donkey “Dan”, and our tenacious media correspondent, Suzy Sucker Punch! We have a fantastic card coming up for you in just over a day now that includes the conclusion of our Lightweight Cockshot Sorter Series tournament!

We’ll be belting our first Lightweight champion in just over a day, as well as featuring a card chock full of Lightweights out to prove that they have what it takes to climb to the top and sit on the throne! In addition, we’ll start out the evening with a little sparring bout between two of Yabai’s hopeful young fighters, managed by Theksit Ruengruong and Esiah Xavier.

The conclusion of this Sorter Series tournament brings the entire set of Sorter Series tournaments to an end, as the other five weight classes have just finished theirs over the past two weeks or so! Exciting times, as within the next 2 weeks or so we should have champions for all of our divisions and that’s some awesome stuff, at least I think!

Donkey, I know what you’re hoping for in the next 24-48 hours…and that’s that we have a card where all of our fighters come in prepared and ready to go, ready to get out there and give it their all and their best! I hope so too, but usually you get at least a couple stragglers who just haven’t paid attention to their energy or morale. Taking a quick glance, it looks like the majority of our fighters have got their energy in order…with the possible exceptions of Notorious and Pereyra, at 89% and 86% as we speak respectively. That’s not bad though, and if they rest in time they’ll have plenty of time to top that off!

I’m hearing relatively good things from Suzy regarding the morale of the fighters. She reports that we may have a few in the first couple matches that are coming in low, specifically in the Pereyra/Doen and Stank/Artist fights, and possibly a couple later on throughout that may be off by 10% or so, but generally things are looking fairly good for this card!

Note to everybody…and honestly, this shouldn’t come as a surprise now that we’re starting to head into the conclusion of our first round of contracts…regardless of whether contract extensions were offered or not, one thing we are heavily looking at is performance as well as how it relates to preparedness. If a guy is coming in fully prepared, but struggling, we’re likely to give a little more slack. If a guy is winning, despite not coming in prepared, well, we won’t love it, but hey, winning is winning, so yes, some slack will be given…but honestly not as much as being fully prepared. Now…for those fighters who are struggling…and also consistently coming in unprepared…well, I think there shouldn’t be any surprise what may be coming. Yes, we are getting to the point where we’ll probably start setting some of those guys free. So please bear that in mind. If your energy has been off, or your morale is consistently low…it’s time to fix that. If you need help with that, it’s time to holler at me and ask questions or work on things. We’ve always offered to be as helpful as possible, trying to provide as much info as we can to help you prepare your fighters. We won’t stop that, but at the same time, at some point it becomes time for the manager to take personal responsibility! If you’re short on cash, we’re even willing to arrange to have some clothing or nutrition supplements sent to you to help out with energy/morale. But you have to be willing to use them and work to get your fighter where he should be.

Well, I think it’s time to talk about our merchandise partner and get on with this thing, no?

http://mmatycoon.com/images/company/logo/1584375781SWN.jpg

Do you find that you’re resting your fighters too often? Two, three, maybe even 4 times a week sometimes? If that’s the case, you’re probably not supplementing their training, and if you are I’m thinking you’re not doing it with Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q, which is Shadow Warrior Nutrition’s outstanding energy loss reduction supplement. It’s the best money can buy and will keep your fighter in the gym training rather than sitting days out resting! Stop on over there today, you will NOT be disappointed!

Now, let's get to it!

Undercard Bout #1: Featherweight Sparring Session

Kazuhisa Nagashima (0-0-0) vs. Surianglek Sitsongrit (0-0-0)

Similar to our last event…well…we have almost an exact situation again…same managers, similar fighters, only this time, Featherweights! So I could write something entirely new…or…well, I could cheat and just repeat…ooh, I like that, let’s cheat! This is Sucker Punch after all!

We’ll start the big event tomorrow night with a little warmer-upper…just a little sparring thing where these two kids will go out there and dance for three minutes. Surianglek Sitsongrit is currently managed by Theksit Ruengruong…Where does he come up with these names anyways? I assume they actually mean something in a language that I don’t know, so I’ll assume it’s my ignorance on this one! Kazuhisa Nagashima…ok, here we go again Donkey…?!?...is brought to us courtesy of Esiah Xavier. So once again we’ve got a bit of Yabai on Yabai violence on tap for tomorrow night!

Neither of these camps are overly forgiving of shortcomings when it comes to new prospects, so they both have their work cut out for them if they want to become permanent features in these manager’s stables.

Undercard Bout #2: Lightweight

Sho Pereyra (1-4-0) vs. Robin Van Doen (0-3-0)

Ok, on to the core of our action for the evening, with our first of nine Lightweight bouts scheduled to take place! This one will feature Sho Pereyra facing off against Sucker Punch newcomer Robin Van Doen.

Now, this one will obviously not thrill Donkey too much, given that Doen is coming into this fight at about…I’d say between 35-40% morale. That’s not good, and will undoubtedly score a pick for Pereyra in this one due to that disadvantage. Now, normally we’d scorn Uncle Doe, Doen’s manager, a little bit here for not having his fighter fully prepared to fight…but he’s new to Sucker Punch and perhaps was not held to a higher standard previously! Well…you’ll certainly hear about it from Donkey, so keep this in mind between now and next month’s fight! Haha.

Pereyra scored his one and only win two fights ago against Erik Versteeg. In that win, he worked the ground game well and secured himself a submission victory. In this fight with Doen, he’s undoubtedly going to want to reproduce that approach and try to do the same. He has the advantage in both wrestling and Jiu Jitsu, and would be well served to use that advantage well. Given Doen’s lack of morale, he should very be able to successfully get this to the ground and take advantage once there.

Doen is the more skilled standup fighter in this matchup, both with his boxing and Muay Thai. He’ll want to do everything he can to keep this fight on the feet and do some damage there, especially if he can’t keep it there. But that morale may make that more easily said than done.

What do you think Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Pereyra via Submission (Kimura)

For Doen, this is a shame. At 0-3, he really, really needed to come in here with a change of scenery and show that he could be successful. But coming in low on morale makes that next to impossible more often than not. Change those clothes and get that morale back up young man! For Pereyra, he very much needs this win as well. And with Doen coming in the way he is, there is no excuse not to get it. It’s not often that you say a fight is a “must win”, but this one is. If he can’t overcome Doen, it’s likely he and his manager may be sitting in the org’s front office or receiving a call Thursday morning to discuss his next career choice…

Undercard Bout #3: Lightweight

Jank Stank (3-5-0) vs. Ko Artist (1-4-0)

Well Donkey, get your lecturing voice warmed up…because you’re going to need it for both of these kids. Both Stank and Artist both come into this fight with low morale, albeit Artists is much worse off than Stanks. This despite the fact that both have losing records at this point. Coincidence? Probably not.

Ko Artist comes into this one with a 1-4 record, with that one win dating back to his first fight in a QFC Tournament. He got bounced from that tournament in Round 2, and has so far been unable to chalk up his first win here at Sucker Punch in three attempts. This boy is still running around in his tighty-whities, so clearly despite four losses in a row, no effort has been made to correct his morale so far in his career. That’s unfortunately. He is the better Muay Thai artist and wrestler in this fight and you’d expect him to try to take this fight to the clinch and win it there. He comes into this one at about 20% morale though, so that is going to be a serious detriment regardless of what his strategy is.

While Stank will likely be the favorite in this fight from Donkey’s viewpoint, he doesn’t come into this thing fully focused and ready to go either. At about 35% low on morale, he too could have come in a bit more prepared. Perhaps it’s because he’s also still in his tighty-whities as well, or maybe it’s because he lives in his mom’s basement according to his bio! He’s the better boxer of the two in this fight and will want to stay out of Artist’s clinch and take him out either with a finish or by consistently scoring points when he can.

Over to you Donkey, what do ya have for us…?

Donkey’s Pick: Stank via TKO (Strikes)

This one is difficult to pick, and not for the right reasons. I’m going to go with Stank here, only because he has won a few more fights than Artist and his morale isn’t quite as low. But if you put these two up individually against just about anybody else who did come in prepared, I probably wouldn’t choose either. For these two, this fight pretty much equates to an “I quit” match. The loser undoubtedly finds himself with an appointment in the Dean’s office in the morning to discuss work opportunities in the mailroom.

Undercard Bout #4: Lightweight

Corona Virus (1-2-0) vs. Conor Notorious (2-5-0)

Our fourth fight of the evening will see yet another two young competitors who, yes, again both need a win!

For Virus, this is an opportunity to put new life into his career, pull even at .500 and really in some ways wipe the slate clean. He’ll be the more advanced boxer in this fight, as well has having a slight advantage wrestling and a blue belt versus his opponent’s white in Jiu Jitsu. At 19 years old, he’s still young, but you don’t want to start falling too far behind too early in the career. This is not a make or break fight for him, but certainly he would very much like to walk out the victor. He’s coming in with some momentum off his last fight which he managed to win via TKO over Ko Artist. He took an aggressive stance versus artist with his boxing, and I expect he’ll likely do the same tonight against Notorious.

Notorious is by far the better Muay Thai artist in this fight. He’s on a two fight skid at this point, but his morale is still up, so clearly his manager is managing that aspect of things, which is good to see! Right now, he’s a little down on energy, but I expect he’ll be rested over the next 36 hours and ready to go come fight time! Despite having the Muay Thai advantage, I’m not sure if Notorious will clinch up or not in this one. His prior win, three fights back, came via a stellar and exciting head kick, and he spent the majority of the fight working his boxing. So there’s a chance we see these two simply go toe to toe and bang in this fight! Whatever he does, he’s going to want a win…and badly…as this is a pretty big fight for him. He may get another shot after this should he lose, but I wouldn’t imagine too many more would be on the table.

What do you have for us, Donkey...?

Donkey’s Pick: Virus via TKO (Strikes)

These two are well matched and it’s going to be a great, hard fought fight. I expect somebody is getting finished, and I also suspect they may come out with pretty similar approaches, with Notorious perhaps mixing it up a bit more with the kicks. From that angle, I may very well be wrong with my pick here, as the diversified attack from Notorious could prove a difference maker. But if Virus is able to be aggressive and land his strikes, I think he may get this win.

Undercard Bout #5: Lightweight

Rock Lee (2-1-0) vs. Veljko Bakocevic (2-6-0)

Our last fight for the Undercard portion of this event will see Lee face off against Bakocevic in the cage! Donkey, you’ll be very happy to know that Lee comes into this fully prepared and focused, ready to go at it. You may notice I didn’t say the same for Bakocevic…who may be just a tad low on morale.

Lee will have the better skillset in standup for this fight, with both his boxing and Muay Thai. Currently 2-1, he’s riding a two fight win streak here in Sucker Punch, having only dropped his first fight with us. If he can win again tonight he’ll be able to move himself up considerably on the ladder with a 3 win streak and having shown he’s ready for the upper end of the competition! Both of his prior fights were won by decision, so he knows how to take it the distance if he needs to. His past two fights have proven that he can come at you with a very varied attack on the feet, using his kicks as much as any other strike if not more. He’ll want to keep this one on the feet and finish it there, as Bakocevic can be dangerous on the ground.

Speaking of which, Bakocevic will be trying for the exact opposite most likely! With the advantage in both wrestling and Jiu Jitsu, and a history of submission victories in both of his two wins, undoubtedly he will not want to tangle with Lee on the feet and instead want this on the ground early and often. Well, maybe not often, not if he can finish it quickly, which is always a big bonus! Bakocevic really needs this win, as slipping to 2-7 would be disastrous for him.

Donkey, who are you taking in this one…?

Donkey’s Pick: Lee via TKO (Strikes)

I really just can’t go against my rules on morale, as I’m a true believer in coming in prepared. We try to do such tight matchmaking here in Sucker Punch that giving up any advantage, whether it be morale, energy or both, can very often be pivotal. For Lee, he’s prepared and that’s huge. I expect he’s going to get himself into the talks of whether he belongs in the top 10 after this if he can pull of the win. For Bakocevic…well, I don’t envy him the discussion with his manager and Hare if he should lose this one. It may not be the end yet, but the edict will be there to win…or…well…let’s not go there yet.

Over the weekend Suzy got in touch with Rock Lee’s camp, and Yamashita Craven allowed Rock to take a few minutes out of training to speak with her…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Hey there Rock, another big fight upcoming next week, are you guys prepared and ready to go?

Rock Lee: Veljko can't do anything but grapple. He can't even keep his own morale topped off. If I can stay on my feet, I'm going to knock this fool out!

Suzy Sucker Punch: Well, the fans always love a big finish! We’ll all be looking forward to seeing if it goes down as you predict!

Main Card Bout #1: Lightweight

Bobolo Jubbly (2-1-0) vs. Rey Bargos (1-1-0)

We move into the Main Card here with our fifth fight of the evening and with that your classic standup versus roll around on the ground matchup! Jubbly is the guy who likes to take it to the canvas and roll around with you a bit. Bargos, on the other hand, likes to punch you in the face for trying that shit! Haha.

But here’s the really important question of the day Donkey…and I thought this was a bit strange I the past as well…but now it’s time to really ask about it. What’s with Jubbly’s profile picture always being missing? I mean, is this guy like the masked singer or something? Is he in witness protection? I don’t know what’s going on there, but what I do know is that this guy has a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu and wonderful wrestling. And what does that spell? Trouble on the ground, with a capital “T”, that’s what! He’s going to try to get this thing down there early and finish it via a sub.

Bargos’ job is to prevent that from happening by any means necessary. He has a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu, so he’s not completely helpless down there, but that’s no brown belt. He needs to use those striking abilities of his early to do damage and try not to let it get into the danger zone. He took a very dangerous Frankie Logan to a decision two fights ago, so he can certainly scrap. And he managed to knockout Conor Notorious in his last fight, so he’s coming in with confidence. Now it’s time to see if he can defeat a serious ground game! Btw Donkey, love his Goonies shirt!

Donkey, who do you have winning this thing…?

Donkey’s Pick: Jubbly via Submission (Armbar)

This is the very first really tough one tonight for me. Both fighters are prepared, which is awesome! Both have significant skills, in completely different areas, so again, that makes it very tough. Both are 21 years old and have been training about the same period of time, so again…ding…they match up scary well. Jubbly has zero standup and striking game…so this really comes down to…can he get it to the ground? If he can, it’s his. If he can’t, oh boy, he’s in for a world of hurt! I’m going to say he does get it down, and gets the sub. But I may be very, very wrong on this one! Just saying that now.

Suzy reached out and was able to get a statement from Alex Conors, manager for Rey Bargos…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Hello there Mr. Conors, it’s so nice to speak with you. I think this might be our first time! Rey has what some are calling a very big opportunity coming up this week against Bobolo Jubbly. Donkey claims it’s a really, really tough fight to call. Do you guys feel you’ve got a plan in place that will let you succeed?

Alex Conors: Rey Bargos has been training with elite wrestlers and BJJ Black belts in preparation for his bout. His MMA record sits at 1-1 and after his KO win he is ready to make some noise. In this fight he wants to start out faster than he did in his last fight and he wants to make a statement. If all goes well for Rey. he'll have something to say on the mic afterwards!

Suzy Sucker Punch: Well, I know we’ll all be sitting on the edge of our seats for this one! I can’t wait to see both of these kids bring it to the table…or in this case, the cage!

Main Card Bout #2: Lightweight

Valery Bokov (2-2-0) vs. Frank Carey (1-0-0)

Moving right along Donkey! Next up, two more young warriors who come into this thing ready to rock and roll, fueled up on energy and focus right where it should be! Nice!

Carey makes his Sucker Punch debut in this one after previously starting his career off with a win over in RRFC. He’s an exceptional wrestler who also carries some skills in the other prime areas, especially Muay Thai. In his sole fight to date, he took the fight to the ground repeatedly and was intent upon working over his poor victim with some serious ground and pound. And an aggressive bit of it at that, with 50 shots thrown! The “ouchie” part of that, is that 36 of them landed! I’d expect more of the same in this fight.

However, if Carey does want this fight on the ground for the GnP show, he better be the one to dictate how it gets there and where he is once he’s down there…because Bokov has no issue with going to the ground either! He’s a submission artist with a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu and both of his prior wins were via subs, Americana and Armbar. While Bokov might not have an issue with being on his back and working with his opponent in guard, the smart move for him would be to gain the top position if he can, which should negate much of Carey’s offense…then he can work his sub game without too much fear.

Donkey, what are you thinking…?

Donkey’s Pick: Bokov via Submission (Triangle)

Another really, really great fight here! And two different styles, but one thing we know is this is likely going to the ground early! Carey had better have very good escapes, defensive grappling, transitions or knowledge of submissions as well, because if he doesn’t have at least a couple of those things could get ugly. I’m going to go with Bokov only because he can work from top or bottom in this fight, while Carey is mostly limited to needing to gain top position.

Main Card Bout #3: Lightweight

Piney Winston (6-2-0) vs. Tua Graves (4-4-1)

Wooo, a big one coming up here Donkey!!! Two very skilled fighters about to go at it in this one. The only downside being that as of now, both of them are just a little off on morale, about 10-15% or so with Graves missing a bit more than Winston. Neither is awful though, and they should counteract each other.

Graves is a dangerous fighter who will technically have the advantage in boxing and Muay Thai in this fight, but in reality, loves to take his prey to the ground and brutalize them once there. So far in his run with Sucker Punch he’d done that successfully twice in the Sorter Series and made it to the semi-finals, where he ran into Vinicius Verreira who was finally able to put a stop to his reign of terror on the ground, preventing Graves from taking it there effectively. Up till then, Graves was one of the favorites in the tournament.

If Graves does take it to the ground, he’s going to have to be very careful in this one as Winston is a submission artist with respectable wrestling and a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu! Winston was on a roll coming into Sucker Punch having won four QFC fights in a row, and then went on to win the first two rounds of fights in the Sorter Series. It was when he came up against Demi Achilles, who managed to out-match him on the ground and turned the tables with a submission victory of his own on Winston, that he finally found somebody who could stop him.

Maybe there’s a chance that Graves tries to work the standup in this one, let Winston tire out in trying to go to the ground, and then work his ground game from there if he can land on top? It will be interesting to see where and how this one goes!

Donkey, over to you, what do you have…?

Donkey’s Pick: Graves via TKO (Strikes)

I remember how ticked off Graves was after the loss to Verreira. Somehow, I think he’s coming into this one with his hair on fire looking to get himself back into the title picture quickly. If he can win this one, he certainly makes a strong case for himself and positions himself very well. However, this is no easy fight. Winston is extremely dangerous and likely has the same aspirations! If he’s not careful, Winston will be putting him to sleep or making him tap out before he knows what happened.

Co-Main Event

Lightweight Bout

Demi Achilles (5-1-0) vs. Two Two (4-1-0)

Rumor has it that the Co-Main event tonight will see two up and comers who have “possible future contenders” written all over them go at it! The only folks standing in their way are the kids in the fight prior to this, Winston/Graves and Frank Diaz who will be fighting later this month against Cole Hotman, who we specifically brought in to see if Diaz is ready to be top contender or not. But there are also other talented fighters in the division that they have to keep a close eye on! But before they worry about any of those others, they need to be focused on each other in this fight!

Achilles came into Sucker Punch with an excellent 3-0 record…and then ran into a buzz saw that is Vinicius Verrera in the first round of the Sorter Series tournament. Verreira went on to the finals and fights in the Main Event tonight to see if he can get himself belted as our first champion, so there is no shame in his loss to Verreira! Since then, he’s been on a streak again with two wins against Ko Artist and Piney Winston. The win over Winston was especially impressive given he stopped an accomplished submission artist in his own game! There is no doubt Achilles will be looking to put those submission skills on display again here tonight.

Two Two will see only his second fight with us here at Sucker Punch when he faces off with Achilles. Before joining us, he had an impressive 3-1 record from the QFC, and went on to prove that it wasn’t “just” a QFC record with a win over Veljko Bakocevic via knockout in his last fight. Two is an accomplished Muay Thai artist with reasonably good wrestling to compliment it, and uses that skillset to clinch up in fights and abuse his foes. His goal tonight is simple…manage to dish out the abuse, but avoid being taken down! If this goes to the ground, he’s going to be in big trouble versus Achilles.

Donkey, you have a call here…?

Donkey’s Pick: Achilles via Submission (Kimura)

I’m not dismissing Two’s credentials, skills or record when making this pick. This is just a credit to the skillset that Achilles brings to the table. If Two keeps this on the feet, and can take control on the clinch, denying the takedown or pulls to guard, then he’ll do very, very well in this fight. But if not, and I suspect at some point it will get to the ground, then Achilles is suddenly going to be in the driver’s seat. I can say this, whoever wins this will certainly have laid claim to a right to try to become top contender going forward.

*********

Main Event

Lightweight Bout

Frankie Logan (3-1-0) vs. Vinicius Verreira (3-1-0)

Our Main Event tonight will finally see one of these two 3-1 fighters be crowned the king of this division, wearing a shiny new belt and representing the Lightweights and Sucker Punch as the first ever Lightweight Champion!

Both of these fighters have now made it through the gauntlet that was the Lightweight Sorter Series to make it to the Finals! And congrats on that, that is no easy feat! These two come in ridiculously closely matched in skills, with Logan having just a small advantage in boxing and the slightest edge in Muay Thai. Other than that, their skills are mirrors of each other. They also stand about the same height, with Logan just slightly shorter by 2 cm and walking at about a little under seven pounds lighter.

Logan boasts a TWGC belt from a grappling tournament he won there. If he can manage to win tonight, he’ll add a second belt to his cabinet! He has already gone through two very strong opponents in Rey Bargos and Bobolo Jubbly, proving that he can go the distance with a striker in Bargos and can defeat another ground based fighter in Jubbly. The danger when you face Logan is… you have no idea which angle or way he’s going to come at you and try to win! He could try to clinch you up and abuse you in the standup. Or, he could try to take it to the ground, where he’s been known to attempt subs and also assert a dominant GnP game.

Tonight, Logan faces off against an extremely dangerous Verreira, who has finished opponents with his big right hand and knockout power in record times, with all three rounds of the Sorter Series being settled in under a minute by TKO or KO! To that point, he currently holds the records at Sucker Punch for Lightweights for Fastest KO and Fastest Finish due to his ten second TKO of Demi Achilles, who, interestingly is a ground fighter like Logan can be at times. Verreira also has a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu, but we’ve never had to see him use it yet! So that adds yet another variable into the mix and really complicates things when you have to strategize against him.

Clearly, both of these talented fighters have their work cut out for them in this fight! This should be an absolutely amazing battle, one that holds so many unanswered questions as to where it could go, how it will go, and who can be successful where!

Donkey, what do you have…?

Donkey’s Pick: Verreira via KO (Punch)

My god Hare, the top half of this card tonight is a killer when it comes to trying to pick winners, which means…THIS IS AWESOME!!! P J Jones and Luc Bourdon bring some incredible fighters to the cage on this card, and this fight truly is one that should not be missed! Ok, have I dragged my feet and tried to delay making a pick long enough here? Honestly, this is a complete, “close the eyes, and throw the dart” move here. I’m going with Verreira, because the unknown about his brown belt intrigues me…and I think we’ll find out more about that when these two face off…if he doesn’t end it fast like he has his other fights!

Suzy got in touch with Frankie Logan, actually, she was lucky enough to happen to catch him walking into the hotel earlier today…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Frankie, great to see you made it to the hotel, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised being that you’re based right here in good ole Sydney! Are you excited for this, I imagine you have to be…any thoughts?

Frankie Logan: Absolutely, but I don’t want to say too much. Hey, tell Hare and Donkey that I love the poster for the event!

Suzy Sucker Punch: Well, good luck in your fight Frankie, and I’ll let Hare know about the poster! He actually does them all himself believe it or not!

*********

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

Wow! If you’re not sure whether you should have a ticket to this event or not… you need to go back and re-read that preview folks! Because the answer is…YES…you should! This is not one to be missed, there are fantastic fights in store when these Lightweights go at it, and it all culminates in a few fights at the tail end that should have people talking for a month until they see them return to the cage again! I can’t wait Donkey!

Hope you’re all ready for a heck of a night!…See you all soon, and till then…

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series 355k+ style!

In less than 24 hours Rey Bargos steps into a cage again. Every time he does there is a sense of urgency. The 21 year old Mexican says it's his hope to establish himself as someone to watch. He allowed cameras to follow him in his preparation for mma fight number three. This is his story and maybe even HISTORY!

8/7/20 Los Angeles, California.

" So my morning begins with Coach Vinny, I'm working on my sprawls and takedown defense. My management team opened up a private gym and hired a bunch of elite coaches after the Frankie Logan loss. So now I am consistently training one on one with elite coaches and they work me hard."

As Rey tackles his first session of the day his manager Alex Conors is always looking on. He has spent time and money on multiple athletes he manages including Rey.

" Rey is young , people look at his record and think he's washed up. The kid just turned 21 years old. He really likes sucker punch and feels he can grow there and I do too!!"

After his first training session Rey drives to Glendale community college where he takes business management classes.

" I want to be an entrepreneur one day. I want to provide for myself and my family back home in Mexico. I send them half of all I have. I pay for my own schooling through fighting. People laugh at my KT record but the money I made in those three fights paid for three years worth of college and took care of my parents. If I win this next fight who knows what's going to happen."

8/11/20

Rey is inside a Sydney gym with his training staff. After flying to Australia on the 8th to acclimate themselves they now feel ready to go. Rey is on the mats with training partner Carter Ortiz, Ortiz is an undefeated fighter with WCF IN hilo but he trains daily with Bargos in LA. Ortiz bin background and submission game is a big reason he is here.

" Rey and I are best friends. We're on the mats all the time working to get better. I am super pumped for this trip to Sydney. Last time out he got his first win and tomorrow qe add to his legacy. Rey works hard for himself and his family , he is a good kid so why would you not root for him?" Says Ortiz as all four members of Bargos team walk with him on the beach.

" The groundwork is laid, we would've liked for a few more weeks to prepare but we stepped up and took the bout. I know he wants to take me down and work submissions. I just have to believe that I can win this fight and I do. If he believes the mat is his safe zone well that's good because I have my own secret tricks and I am ready to make a statement. This isn't just Rey Bargos versus Bobolo Jubbly, this is all of Mexico City , all of Project Training and all the heart of Rey Bargos versus Bobolo. He may enjoy being a mystery but I'm not one. This fight game is my life and I depend on this to feed my family. I'm going out there fully prepared to put on a clinic. You want to scrap, you want to wrestle , let's do it."
