Lets be honest, no one likes getting punched in the face. Not The Face is Contender's second event in the prestigious Rio de Janeiro.

Frankie managed to get Tyson to come out of retirement to face the man that he loves the taste of Holyfield. In the main event of what is no doubt to be a war Tyson will be facing off against Holyfield. Holyfield will be allowed to wear ear guards for this event.

In our Co-main event we have Ou vs Urdnot. In a battle of the bellies these heavy weights are sure to have small children running away in fear. Ou takes this if he can keep it on his feet. Urdnot however has the better wrestling.

de Jovo vs Dorh is the third card at this event. de Jovo is coming off a tough loss while Dorh is untested. Can de Jovo turn it around and surprise Dorh with his experience? This guys are so evenly matched I think they trained to together for the fight.

Rajon Rondo is taking time from losing the championship to the Lakers to try out this MMA thing. His purple belt cost him twenty dollars over at OTM. He will be squaring off against one of the Gracie family members. Neither guy is impressive with the standup so this should turn out to be a grappling exhibition.

Flintstone comes in with some impressive wrestling credentials. He will be facing off against Dorh. Dorh has the better stand up and hopes to send Mr Flintsone packing on his way back to Bedrock.

Casual Groin Kick

Lets be serious, there is nothing casual about it.

Groin attacks enacted upon male victims are the most widely known, and women are often taught to use the groin attack to discourage would-be rapists. Groin strikes are debilitating and pose potential harm to males due to the high sensitivity of the gonads and vulnerability of human external testicles. The pain associated with testicular trauma travels from the testicles into the abdominal cavity through the spermatic plexus, the primary nerve of the testicles. A prolonged squeeze to the testicles can cause the victim to black out. A hard strike or squeeze can cause the testicle to rupture, potentially sterilizing the victim. In such cases hospitalization is necessary and if the testicle cannot be repaired, it must be removed. The threat of violence to the testicles also used as psychological violence against males.

In our main event we have Anderson Rua vs Tyrell Badd. Both fighters are coming in from decisive wins over their previous opponents. Rua the Muay Thai specialist likes to go head hunting. He has the ability to drop a man to his knees with a single blow. Badd on the other hand is a wrestler with glass on his elbows. If he gets you on the ground, look for him to make a bloody mess of your face. Be careful, he likes it when you squirm.

In our co-main event we have Donovan vs Buxudo. Both of these guys are equally matched on their feet. Buxudo has that shiny purple belt and isn't scared to use it. Donovan needs to keep the fight on his feet or he'll be in for a short night.

We have an exciting evening of fights planned for all you fight fans.

Contenders - BB King

Date: 8/14/2010

Riley B. King (born September 16, 1925), known by the stage name B.B. King, is an American blues guitarist and singer-songwriter acclaimed for his expressive singing and guitar playing. In the winter of 1949, King played at a dance hall in Twist, Arkansas. In order to heat the hall, a barrel half-filled with kerosene was lit, a fairly common practice at the time. During a performance, two men began to fight, knocking over the burning barrel and sending burning fuel across the floor. The hall burst into flames, which triggered an evacuation. Once outside, King realized that he had left his guitar inside the burning building. He entered the blaze to retrieve his beloved $30 guitar, a Gibson semi-hollow electric. Two people died in the fire. The next day, King learned that the two men were fighting over a woman named Lucille. King named that first guitar Lucille, as well as every one he owned since that near-fatal experience, as a reminder never again to do something as stupid as run into a burning building or fight over women. King won a Grammy Award for a tune called "The Thrill Is Gone" his version became a hit on both the pop and R&B charts, which was rare during that time for an R&B artist.

The Thrill is Gone

Notable Fights

In our main event we have Igor Dobrowslaw vs Jackie Chun . Don't let the blue belt fool you. Four out of his five wins have come via submission. He was recently heard boasting about his new improved standup game. Jackie Chun might as well be Tito's little bother. With no stand up game to speak of this up and coming middle relies on his explosive takedowns and nasty ground n' pound to get the job done. If Igor keeps it on his feet he has a chance. Chun has to play to his strengths and take this fight to the ground and grind out Igor.

In our co-main event we have Zach Newland vs Philipe Sagat. We have the boxer Newland vs Sagat the Muay Thai practitioner. These guys are evenly matched and are both coming off of TKO wins in the first round. El Tigre has the slight edge in experience, but the question is can he make that count? We don't see this one going the distance. Paramedics are standing by to cart the loser off to the hospital.

Contenders – Thelonious Monk

Date: 8/21/2010

Location: Paddy O'Malleys Bar - Rio

http://mmatycoon.com/images/paddy%20omalleys%20bar.jpg

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1280792421thelonious%20monk.jpg

Thelonious Sphere Monk(October 10, 1917 – February 17, 1982) was an American jazz pianist and composer considered "one of the giants of American music". Monk had a unique improvisational style and made numerous contributions to the standard jazz repertoire, including "Epistrophy", "'Round Midnight", "Blue Monk", "Straight, No Chaser" and "Well, You Needn't".

Monk's manner was idiosyncratic. Visually, he was renowned for his distinctive style in suits, hats and sunglasses. He was also noted for the fact that at times, while the other musicians in the band continued playing, he would stop, stand up from the keyboard and dance for a few moments before returning to the piano. One of his regular dances consisted of continuously turning counterclockwise, which has drawn comparisons to ring-shout and Sufi whirling.

He is one of only five jazz musicians to be featured on the cover of Time (the other four being Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Wynton Marsalis, and Dave Brubeck).

Notable Fights

In the main event we have two veterans looking to make a come back. Pato vs Popadopalous will prove to be a crowd please. Both fighters are excellent boxers with purple belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The belts aren’t there to just hold up their pants either. Both fighters have wins via submission. Pato has an edge in Muay Thai and with a nickname like "The Kick" we are sure to see more kicks from him than a chorus line. Popadopalous is coming off a tough loss that snapped his winning streak. Who will take the first step in rebuilding their career? Tune in Sunday to find out.

In our co-main event we have Ramirez vs Manccini. Ramirez is coming off a stunning TKO over Kari Oki in his Contenders debut. Manccini won his first fight in the QFC but appears to be taking his partying a little too seriously. Reports from his training camp are that he staggers in smelling like a brewery and his energy level is shall we say less than 100%. Look for Ramirez to make short work of Manccini if he can’t get his act together and sleep it off over the course of a few days.

As an added note we have heard from reliable sources that if Fabiano misses weight he will be visited by some very large men (

Contenders – Muddy Waters

Date: 8/29/2010

Location: Paddy O'Malleys Bar - Rio

http://mmatycoon.com/images/paddy%20omalleys%20bar.jpg

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1280704660MuddyWaters.gif

About Muddy Waters

McKinley Morganfield (April 4, 1915 – April 30, 1983), known as Muddy Waters, was an American blues musician, generally considered "the Father of blues". Blues musicians Big Bill Morganfield and Larry "Mud Morganfield" Williams are his sons. A major inspiration for the British blues explosion in the 1960s, Muddy was ranked #17 in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

His grandmother Della Grant raised him after his mother died shortly after his birth. His fondness for playing in mud earned him the nickname "Muddy" at an early age. He later changed it to "Muddy Water" and finally "Muddy Waters".

His influence is tremendous, over a variety of music genres: blues, rhythm and blues, rock 'n' roll, hard rock, folk, jazz, and country. He also helped Chuck Berry get his first record contract.

His 1958 tour of England marked possibly the first time amplified, modern urban blues was heard there, although on his first tour he was the only one amplified. His backing was provided by Englishman Chris Barber's trad jazz group. (One critic retreated to the toilets to write his review because he found the band so loud).

The Rolling Stones named themselves after his 1950 song "Rollin' Stone", (also known as "Catfish Blues", which Jimi Hendrix covered as well). Hendrix recalled "the first guitar player I was aware of was Muddy Waters. I first heard him as a little boy and it scared me to death". Cream covered "Rollin' and Tumblin'" on their 1966 debut album Fresh Cream, as Eric Clapton was a big fan of Muddy Waters when he was growing up, and his music influenced Clapton's music career. The song was also covered by Canned Heat at the legendary Monterey Pop Festival and later adapted by Bob Dylan on the album Modern Times. One of Led Zeppelin's biggest hits, "Whole Lotta Love", is lyrically based upon the Muddy Waters hit "You Need Love", written by Willie Dixon. Dixon wrote some of Muddy Waters' most famous songs, including "I Just Want to Make Love to You" (a big radio hit for Etta James, as well as the 1970s rock band Foghat), "Hoochie Coochie Man", which The Allman Brothers Band famously covered, and "I'm Ready", which was covered by Humble Pie.

Weezing vs Silva

Silva is looking to rebuild his career after a short stay in Kings of Rio. The talented brown belt boasts a record of 5-3 with 4 of those wins coming via submission. He has never been knocked out so our assumption is he has a chin that can take a beating. He is facing Weezing with a professional record of 3-1, is a standout high school wrestler that also scored 4 touchdowns in a single game to set a record. You would think a wrestler would want to take the fight to the ground, but oh no not Weezing. In his MMA debut he scored a brutal 14 second knockout of his opponent. In fact we heard that Weezing one kicked a man so hard it left blood on his ballet shoes. Weezing takes this if he can keep it on his feet.

Co-Main

Vreeland vs Scott

This is the battle of crusty veteran vs spunky up and comer. Scott our crusty veteran sports an impressive record of 11 and 5. His morale is a little low. An undisclosed source pins that on his wife leaving him for another woman and his dog dying. Hopefully a win can cheer the poor fellow up. Vreeland is coming off a win in Contenders after a pair of loses in the rough and tumble world of the RHOE left him licking his wounds. Vreeland who goes by the nickname Rapeface is currently on probation for an undisclosed offense. Who are we to judge. Farm animals need love too. This one is too close to call. Which one of the two ground guys has better standup? Tune in to find out.

Contenders – Otis Rush

Date: 09/04/2010

http://mmatycoon.com/images/paddy%20omalleys%20bar.jpg

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1282174224237px-Orush.jpg

About Otis Rush

Otis Rush (born April 29, 1935 in Philadelphia, Mississippi) is a blues musician, singer and guitarist. His distinctive guitar style features a slow burning sound and long bent notes. With similar qualities to Magic Sam and Buddy Guy, his sound became known as West Side Chicago blues and became an influence on many musicians including Michael Bloomfield and Eric Clapton.

Rush is left-handed and, unlike many other left-handed guitarists, plays a left-handed instrument strung upside-down with the low E string at the bottom. He played often with the little finger of his pick hand curled under the low E for positioning. It is widely believed that this contributes to his distinctive sound.

After moving to Chicago, Illinois in 1948, Rush made a name for himself playing in clubs on both the South Side and West Side blues scenes. From 1956 to 1958, he recorded for the Cobra Records and released eight singles, some featuring Ike Turner on guitar. His first single "I Can't Quit You Baby" in 1956 reached No. 6 on Billboard's R&B chart.

Though he has not recorded a new studio album since 1998, he continued to tour and perform. In 2002, he was featured on the Bo Diddley tribute album Hey Bo Diddley - A Tribute!, performing the song "I'm A Man".

However, he suffered a stroke in 2004 which has kept him from performing since. In 2006, Rush released his latest CD, Live and From San Francisco on Blues Express Records, a live recording from 1999. Video footage of the same show was released on the DVD Live Part 1 in 2003.

Rush has two daughters, Lena and Sophia

Paw vs Thunder

These guys are pretty evenly matched. Paw is coming off a three fight win streak with the RFC where he has never been out of the first round. He boasts a perfect record of 3-0. Thunder is also 3-0 with all his wins coming off decisions. Thunder has the better wrestling but Paw has a purple belt and has a sub win to his credit. With both fighters being undefeated someone's O has got to go. Someone's O will be no mo'. Which one do you like better?

Co-Main

Chavez vs Guerra

The battle of the veterans. Chavez has eighteen fights to his credit with a record of 9-9 is coming off a decisive win after snapping a bit of a losing streak. Guerra also is coming off a win and boasts a record of 3-3. Chavez has the edge in on the ground, while Guerra possesses some impressive Muay Thai skills. Guerra has a chance if he keeps it standing.

Contenders –John Lee Hooker

Date: 09/05/2010

About John Lee Hooker

John Lee Hooker (August 22, 1917 – June 21, 2001) was an American blues singer-songwriter and guitarist, born near Clarksdale, Mississippi. Hooker began his life as the son of a sharecropper, William Hooker, and rose to prominence performing his own unique style of what was originally closest to Delta blues. He developed a 'talking blues' style that was his trademark.

Hooker's life experiences were chronicled by several scholars and often read like a classic case study in the racism of the music industry, although he eventually rose to prominence with memorable songs and influence on a generation of musicians.

Hooker and his siblings were home-schooled. They were permitted to listen only to religious songs, with his earliest exposure being the spirituals sung in church. In 1921, his parents separated. The next year, his mother married William Moore, a blues singer who provided Hooker with his first introduction to the guitar (and whom John would later credit for his distinctive playing style).

Hooker was also influenced by his stepfather, a local blues guitarist, who learned in Shreveport, Louisiana to play a droning, one-chord blues that was strikingly different from the Delta blues of the time. Around 1923 his natural father died. At the age of 15, John Lee Hooker ran away from home, reportedly never seeing his mother or stepfather again.

He maintained a solo career, popular with blues and folk music fans of the early 1960s and crossed over to white audiences, giving an early opportunity to the young Bob Dylan. As he got older, he added more and more people to his band, changing his live show from simply Hooker with his guitar to a large band, with Hooker singing.

Badd vs Tyson

Badd has won tow fights in Contenders and is on his way to be the first fighter promoted up to the RHOE, that is if Tyson doesn't have anything to say about it. Badd's three wins have all come via TKO or KO. Tyson took his last opponent's arm home with him and mounted it in his den to snap (get it) 2 fight losing streak. Badd's only lose has come via submission. While Badd be contacted by the cheeky Tapeleg about his future or is Tyson getting another arm for his collection.

Child vs Hitmonchan

The broomstick is back! He is down under 80 pounds now. My prediction, if Hitmonchan passes wind near him he will be rocked. Hitmonchan is coming off two wins in his two pro fights both by administering a beating. One of his opponents tapped to strikes. I mean who taps to strikes? The always hungry Child has the reach advantage if you can call it that. We think Child might be geting starved by his parents to fight. We have notified social services.

Contenders – Sonny Boy

Date: 09/12/2010

Location: Wild Bob's Bar - Rio

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/wild%20bobs%20rio.gif

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1281497245SonnyBoy.jpg

About Sonny Boy

Someone stole this man's name.

He was born near Jackson, Tennessee in 1914. His original recordings were considered to be in the country blues style, but he soon demonstrated skill at making harmonica a lead instrument for the blues, and popularized it for the first time in a more urban blues setting. He has been called "the father of modern blues harp".

Williamson recorded prolifically both as a bandleader and a sideman over the entire course of his career, mainly for the Bluebird record label. The top-floor nightclub at the Leland was a hangout for the famous and the infamous. Big Al Capone was allegedly a regular. The nightclub, which was used for live big band broadcasts on a local radio station, was utilized during off hours as a recording studio for Williamson's early sessions, as well as those of other Bluebird artists.

Williamson's final recording session took place in Chicago in December 1947, backing Big Joe Williams. On June 1, 1948, John Lee Williamson was killed in a mugging on Chicago's South Side, as he walked home from his final performance at The Plantation Club at 31st St. and Giles Ave., a tavern just a block and a half away from his home at 3226 S. Giles. Williamson's final words are reported to have been "Lord have mercy".

His legacy has been somewhat overshadowed in the post-war blues era by the popularity of the musician who appropriated his name, Rice Miller, who after Williamson's death went on to record many popular blues songs for Chicago's Checker Records label and others, and toured Europe several times during the 'blues revival' in the early 1960s.

Newland vs Levine

Newland is coming off 3 impression victories, all via stoppage by KO or TKO. Newland has dynamite in his gloves. Levine is almost the complete opposite. He comes into the event with a record of 4-3. His last win was via a nasty cut to earn him his first non decision victory and snap a two fight losing streak. Newland is running around here with his white belt and suspect wrestling. Will Levine takes his chances and stand and bang with Levine? My bet is that Levine will only stand long enough to get Newland to the ground. The cocky Newland was heard saying 'I'll knock him out off my back', the same line use by the now 0-1 James Toney.

Co-Main

Rockgroin vs Ou

Rockgroin's chin is suspect, but then again so is Ou's ground game. Rockgroin is looking to bounce back from a streak of tough losses and he is looking to do so against the excellent boxer Ou. Ou has a record of 3-1 with all 3 wins coming off of beatings that he administered. Similar to our main event if Rockgroin wants to survive he has to get this to the ground or Ou will make it a short night for him. I hope Ou has been working on his wrestling and sprawl. If it goes to the ground Ou will be tapping SOS before the night is done.

So, please, give him a shot.

Contenders – Howlin' Wolf

Date: 09/19/2010

Location: Wild Bob's Bar - Rio

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/wild%20bobs%20rio.gif

http://mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1281648155howlinwolf.jpg

About Howlin' Wolf

Chester Arthur Burnett (June 10, 1910 – January 10, 1976), better known as Howlin' Wolf, was an influential American blues singer, guitarist and harmonica player.

Can we say super heavyweight? At 6 feet, 6 inches (198 cm) and close to 300 pounds (136 kg), he was an imposing presence with one of the loudest and most memorable voices of all the "classic" 1950s Chicago blues singers. Howlin' Wolf's voice has been compared to "the sound of heavy machinery operating on a gravel road". This rough-edged, slightly fearsome musical style is often contrasted with the less crude but still powerful presentation of his contemporary and professional rival, Muddy Waters - although the two were reportedly not that different in actual personality - to describe the two pillars of the Chicago blues representing the music.

Born in White Station, Mississippi, near West Point, he was named after Chester A. Arthur, the 21st President of the United States, and was nicknamed Big Foot Chester and Bull Cow in his early years because of his massive size. He explained the origin of the name Howlin' Wolf thus: "I got that from my grandfather [John Jones]." He used to tell him stories about the wolves in that part of the country and warn him that if he misbehaved, they would "get him".

Howlin' Wolf quickly became a local celebrity, and soon began working with a band that included Willie Johnson, and guitarist Pat Hare. His first recordings came in 1951, when he recorded sessions for both the Bihari brothers at Modern Records and Leonard Chess' Chess Records. Chess issued Howlin' Wolf's "How Many More Years" in August 1951; Wolf also recorded sides for Modern, with Ike Turner, in late 1951 and early 1952. Chess eventually won the war over the singer, and Wolf settled in Chicago, Illinois c. 1953. arriving in Chicago, he assembled a new band, recruiting Chicagoan Joseph Leon "Jody" Williams from Memphis Slim's band as his first guitarist. Within a year Wolf enticed guitarist Hubert Sumlin to leave Memphis and join him in Chicago; Sumlin's terse, curlicued solos perfectly complemented Burnett's huge voice and surprisingly subtle phrasing. Although the line-up of Wolf's band would change regularly over the years, employing many different guitarists both on recordings and in live performance including Willie Johnson, Jody Williams, Lee Cooper, L.D. McGhee, Otis "Big Smokey" Smothers, his brother Little Smokey Smothers, Jimmy Rogers, Freddie "Abu Talib" Robinson, and Buddy Guy, among others, with the exception of a couple of brief absences in the late '50s Sumlin remained a member of the band for the rest of Wolf's career, and is the guitarist most often associated with the Chicago Howlin' Wolf sound.

Unlike many other blues musicians, after he left his impoverished childhood to begin a musical career, Howlin' Wolf was always financially successful. Having already achieved a measure of success in Memphis, he described himself as "the onliest one to drive himself up from the Delta like a gentleman" to Chicago, which he did, in his own car on the Blues Highway and with four thousand dollars in his pocket, a rare distinction for a black blues man of the time. In his early career, this was the result of his musical popularity and his ability to avoid the pitfalls of alcohol, gambling and the various dangers inherent in what are vaguely described as "loose women", to which so many of his peers fell prey.

Cullen vs Ramirez

Cullen is making his Contenders debut with a perfect record of 4-0. He is a well rounded fighter with some KO power. Ramirez is riding a two fight win streak in Contenders. With a win he could be getting the call from the RHOE to move back to the big leagues. Ramirez has scored two first round stoppages via TKO. He is hungry and ready to welcome Cullen into Contenders. Cullen is no slouch, two of his four wins are via KO, so he is packing some power in his hands. Neither fighter is very impressive on the ground so lets hope for a stand out, drag out war.

Dobrowslaw is coming off a tough loss and is looking to rebound against Contenders new comer Wright. Dobrowslaw is a blue belt in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu. That has help earn him four submission wins. Maybe he is pulling the wool over our eyes and is really a black belt? Sand Bagger? Wright comes in a perfect 2-0 with both wins via vicious KO's. Word on the street is Wright is Manny Paquiao's parring partner. Will he come out on top against the higly deceptive blue belt submission ace? If Wright lands a clean shot it's probably good night Mr. Drobrowslaw.

Contenders – Robert Johnson

Location: The Underground - Rio

http://mmatycoon.com/images/the%20underground.gif

http://mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1283029188robert_johnson1.gif

About Robert Johnson

This man sold his soul to the devil at a crossroads and was killed by a bottle of whiskey.

According to legend, as a young black man living on a plantation in rural Mississippi, Robert Johnson was branded with a burning desire to become a great blues musician. He was "instructed" to take his guitar to a crossroad near Dockery Plantation at midnight. There he was met by a large black man (the Devil) who took the guitar and tuned it. The "Devil" played a few songs and then returned the guitar to Johnson, giving him mastery of the instrument. This was, in effect, a deal with the Devil mirroring the legend of Faust. In exchange for his soul, Robert Johnson was able to create the blues for which he became famous.

Robert Johnson was born in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, probably on May 8, 1911 or 1912, to Julia Major Dodds (born October 1874) and Noah Johnson (born December 1884). Julia was married to Charles Dodds (born February 1865), a relatively prosperous landowner and furniture maker with whom she gave birth to 10 children. Dodds had been forced by a lynch mob to leave Hazlehurst following a dispute with white landowners. Julia herself left Hazlehurst with baby Robert, but after some two years, sent him to live in Memphis with Dodds, who had changed his name to Charles Spencer.

His first recorded song, "Kind Hearted Woman Blues", was part of a cycle of spin-offs and response songs that began with Leroy Carr's "Mean Mistreater Mama" (1934). According to Wald, it was "the most musically complex in the cycle" and stood apart from most rural blues as a through-composed lyric, rather than an arbitrary collection of more-or-less unrelated verses. In contrast to most Delta players, Johnson had absorbed the idea of fitting a composed song into the three minutes of a 78 RPM side. Most of Johnson's "somber and introspective" songs and performances come from his second recording session.

In 1937, Johnson traveled to Dallas, Texas, for another recording session in a makeshift studio at the Brunswick Record Building, 508 Park Avenue. Eleven records from this session would be released within the following year. Because Johnson did two takes of most songs during these sessions, and recordings of those takes survived, more opportunity exists to compare different performances of a single song by Johnson than for any other blues performer of his time and place.

By the time he died, at least six of his records had been released in the South as race records.

Johnson died on August 16, 1938, at the age of 27, near Greenwood, Mississippi. He had been playing for a few weeks at a country dance in a town about 15 miles (24 km) from Greenwood. Differing accounts and theories attempt to shed light on the events preceding his death. A story often told is that one evening Johnson began flirting with a woman at a dance; the wife of the juke joint owner, according to rumor, unaware that the bottle of whiskey she gave to Johnson had been poisoned by her husband. In another version, she was a married woman unrelated to the juke joint owner. Johnson was allegedly offered an open bottle of whiskey that was laced with strychnine. Fellow blues legend Sonny Boy Williamson allegedly advised him never to drink from an offered bottle that had already been opened. According to Williamson, Johnson replied, "Don't ever knock a bottle out of my hand." Soon after, he was offered another open bottle of whiskey, also laced with strychnine, and accepted it. Johnson is reported to have begun feeling ill the evening after drinking from the bottle and had to be helped back to his room in the early morning hours. Over the next three days, his condition steadily worsened and witnesses reported that he died in a convulsive state of severe pain—symptoms which are consistent with strychnine poisoning.

Smith vs Elbow

Smith staggers into the press conference half drunk. He attempts to take a seat and apparently the chair has a high dodge skill. Smith was the favorite until this evening when as a shock to reporters he looks like he has been camping out in front of Wendy's eating baconators. We have not been able to reach Smith's manager to comment. Elbow is true to his name sake. He will rush you, violently huge you and have his way with you all while doing his best ludacris impression by throwin' them bows.

Co-Main

Na Bweum vs Halberston

In what is our co-main event/possible main event cause Smith is a fat man that is close to missing weight we have an intriguing match. Our match maker was apparently drunk when he suggested this match up. Halberston is a beast but has a suspect chin. Na Bweum has the KO power to give Halberston a bad day. One clean shot, pow right on the kisser and Halberston will be saying good night. On the other hand maybe Halberston is scared and will take Na Bweum down with his equally impressive wrestling.

TIMESTAMP 6:39 PM CT 09262010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The RHOE is very proud to announce the first success of our Contenders program. As RHOEheads know, the goal of Contenders is to provide a place for young fighters or struggling veterans to grow. The RHOE has turned into an org full of exceptionally dangerous and skilled fighters. Contenders gives a chance to fighters who can't yet compete in that environment. Once the fighters find some success in Contenders, they graduate to the RHOE. So it is with great joy that I celebrate the first graduate of the program - Nico "Rocco" Ramirez.

For more on this, we sent intrepid RHOE reporter Betsy Brock down to Nico's training facility to get a comment from the man himself.

Today I was sent down to Hanz and Franz Fitness here in Rio to get Nico's reactions to the news that he will be given a new lucrative contract with Rio Home of Eroticism. I was able to get some words with the talented fighter. Here is what Nico had to say about the news:

"I knew that I would be able to come back! When that bastard Mr. Ferguson called me into his office to tell me that I was not good enough for Rio Home of Eroticism I wanted to strangle him. Instead I swore that I would prove him wrong. I am going to show them all who is the top fighter here in Rio. Mommy, this one is for you!!"

A short, balding fat man came over and told Nico to go back to training. Then he turned to me with a crooked smile and said: "Hello, I am Uriah Monk, Nico's manager. Don't worry about him, I have him under control. After I put him on the new wonderful product 160! he seems to be constantly on edge. Is there anything I can do for you?" After I explained why I was there he had this to say about Nico's reversal in fortune.

"The boy was just too young and inexperienced the first time he was competing with the big boys. This time he has more focus in his mind power in his fists. I believe he might be able to make his mark in Rio Home of Erotisicm this time. I have faith in the lad."

Thanks Betsy, great work. Other fighters are hot on Nico's heels, we're expecting to see a lot of great people to come streaming out of Contenders, ready to face off against the best the RHOE has to offer!

Contenders – Etta James

Date: 10/02/2010

About Etta James

Etta James (born Jamesetta Hawkins; January 25, 1938) is an American blues, soul, R&B, rock & roll, gospel and jazz singer and songwriter.

Jamesetta Hawkins was born in Los Angeles, California, to an unmarried 14-year-old African American girl, Dorothy Hawkins. She claimed that her mother told her that her father was a white pool player, Rudolf "Minnesota Fats" Wanderone

There are at least two versions of how Johnny Otis discovered Etta James. Otis' version is that she came to his hotel room after one of his performances in San Francisco and persuaded him to audition her. Another frequently told story is that Otis spotted her performing in an L.A. nightclub with The Peaches and, having conceived of the answer song to Hank Ballard's "Work With Me, Annie", arranged with the Bihari brothers for Modern Records to record "The Wallflower" with James.

Chess Records head producer, Leonard Chess imagined James as a classic ballad stylist who had potential to cross over onto the Pop charts. Chess began backing James up on her recording sessions with violins and other string instruments, which was first heard on her 1961 hit, "At Last". The song went to #2 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1961, and also peaked at #47 on the Billboard Pop Chart, ultimately becoming her signature song. Although it wasn't as successful as expected on the Pop charts, it did become the most remembered version of the song.

James encountered a string of legal problems during the early '70s due to her heroin addiction. She was continuously in and out of rehabilitation centers, including the Tarzana Rehabilitation Center, in Los Angeles, California. Her husband Artis Mills, whom she married in 1969, took the fall when they were both arrested for heroin possession and served a 10 year prison sentence.

She probably does Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. James was hospitalized in January 2010 to treat an infection caused by MRSA. During her hospitalization, her son Donto revealed that James was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2009, and attributed her previous comments about Beyoncé Knowles to "drug induced dementia."

Yong Sool vs Slapper

Yong Sool used to be a professional bar fighter in the favelas of Rio. The gifted brown belt was discovered one night when he nearly killed a man for insulting his quite impressive afro. He comes to Contenders with a record of 4-2 with all four wins coming off submissions. If given the chance he would gladly take one of Slapper's limbs home to add to his collection. Slappers comes to us with a record of 5-2-1. Rumor is the NC was caused when Slappers ran into the cage oiled up wearing a bright green thong. His opponent ran out screaming. We have since banned thongs as combat wear. Both fighters are predominantly ground guys. Slappers sports the more impressive wrestling, but Sool has the faixa marrom.

Co-Main

Scott vs s

Yes just 's'. We checked his birth certificate. Scott is the grizzled old man of the mountain. After taking 4 months off on a expedition to hunt yeti in nepal, he has returned to grace us with his presence in Rio. After a few tune up fights in the QFC he joined Contenders where he won his debut. Scott is a beast on the ground finishing 7 of his opponents via submission. the down side to that is that he has also been tapped out four times. Maybe a bit over confident there buddy. s is the new guy on the block. While being the younger fighter his skills on paper are remarkably close to Scotts. S spots some impressive wrestling and has beat a man to near death over a parking spot. My money is on s, no wait Scott, no wait s. Yeah that's it.

Contenders – Little Walter

About Little Walter

The Jimi Hendrix of harmonica.

Little Walter, born Marion Walter Jacobs (May 1, 1930 – February 15, 1968), was an American blues harmonica player whose revolutionary approach to his instrument has earned him comparisons to Charlie Parker and Jimi Hendrix for innovation and impact on succeeding generations. His virtuosity and musical innovations fundamentally altered many listeners' expectations of what was possible on blues harmonica.

Jacobs was born in Marksville, Louisiana and raised in Alexandria, Louisiana. After quitting school by the age of 12, Jacobs left rural Louisiana and travelled around working odd jobs and busking on the streets of New Orleans, Memphis, Helena, Arkansas and St. Louis. He honed his musical skills with Sonny Boy Williamson II, Sunnyland Slim, Honeyboy Edwards and others.

Jacobs made his first released recordings in 1947 for Bernard Abrams' tiny Ora-Nelle label, which operated out of the back room of Abrams' Maxwell Radio and Records store in the heart of the Maxwell Street market area in Chicago. These and several other early Little Walter recordings, like many blues harp recordings of the era, owed a strong stylistic debt to pioneering blues harmonica player Sonny Boy Williamson I (John Lee Williamson). Little Walter joined Muddy Waters' band in 1948, and by 1950, he was playing on Muddy's recordings for Chess Records; for years after his departure from Muddy's band in 1952, Little Walter continued to be brought in to play on his recording sessions, and as a result his harmonica is featured on most of Muddy's classic recordings from the 1950s.

A few months after returning from his second European tour, he was involved in a fight while taking a break from a performance at a nightclub on the South Side of Chicago. The relatively minor injuries sustained in this altercation aggravated and compounded damage he had suffered in previous violent encounters, and he died in his sleep at the apartment of a girlfriend at 209 E. 54th St. in Chicago early the following morning.

Mann vs Herbstreit

Mann "The QFC Assassin" comes to us with a perfect record of 5-0. Sporting impressive standup, decent wrestling and a purple belt this man is a well rounded fighter not to be taken lightly. Herbstreit comes to us from the organization formerly known as BAR where he beat up on the same guy for the last 2 fights. Just mean. With both fighters equally impressive in the stand up, I have gone ahead and slipped them each a brand new shiny quarter to keep the fight standing and not block.

Co-Main

Hendrix vs Oliszewski

Jimi Hendrix's love child, Hendrix is a submission ace with an impressive record of 6-1-1. He formerly fought in the red light district of Amsterdam. Hendrix's has an impressive chin. His only loss coming when he got caught and submitted while he was flirting with a ring girl. Oliszewski is 2-1 and apparently hates Fedor. His only loss coming to a terribly under fed fighter. Oliszewski has good hands and comes from an impressive wrestling program. His choice of attire is questionable to some, but we find it oozes confidence. If Oliszewski keeps it standing he wins. Can Mr. Hendrix snapped Contenders no submission win drought in the last cards?

As Billy Slapper's manager I've been asked to lodge a formal complaint against your write up. You've misread his record and reported a NC instead of the insanely hard-fought draw he earned. The dude was an openweight fighter - tough to get a NC unless you can't read a map.

The draw.

Contenders – Memphis Slim

Date: 10/09/2010

Location: The Underground - Rio

http://mmatycoon.com/images/the%20underground.gif

http://mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1283987225Slim1.jpg

About Memphis Slim

Memphis Slim's birth name was John Len Chatman, and he was born in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. His father Peter Chatman sang, played piano and guitar, and operated juke joints,[1] and it is now commonly believed that he took the name to honor his father when he first recorded for Okeh Records in 1940. Although he started performing under the name Memphis Slim later that same year, he continued to publish songs under the name Peter Chatman.

He spent most of the 1930s performing in honky-tonks, dance halls, and gambling joints in West Memphis, Arkansas, and southeast Missouri. After World War II, Slim began leading bands that, reflecting the popular appeal of jump-blues, generally included saxophones, bass, drums, and piano. With the decline of blues recording by the majors, Slim worked with the emerging independent labels. Starting in late 1945, he recorded with trios for the small Chicago-based label Hy-Tone.

One of Slim's 1947 recordings for Miracle, released in 1949, was originally titled "Nobody Loves Me". It has become famous as "Every Day I Have the Blues."

Early in 1950, Miracle succumbed to financial troubles, but its owners regrouped to form the Premium label, and Slim remained on board until the successor company faltered in the summer of 1951.

Slim first appeared outside the United States in 1960, touring with Willie Dixon, with whom he returned to Europe in 1962 as a featured artist in the first of the series of American Folk Festival concerts organized by Dixon and promoter Willie Dixon that brought many notable blues artists to Europe in the 1960s and 1970s. The duo released several albums together on Folkways Records, including, Memphis Slim and Willie Dixon at the Village Gate with Pete Seeger, in 1962. That same year, he moved permanently to Paris and his engaging personality and well-honed presentation of playing, singing, and storytelling about the blues secured his position as the most prominent blues artist for nearly three decades. He appeared on television in numerous European countries, acted in several French films and wrote the score for another, and performed regularly in Paris, throughout Europe, and on return visits to the United States.

Memphis Slim died on February 24, 1988, of renal failure in Paris, France, at the age of 72. He is buried at Galilee Memorial Gardens in Memphis, Tennessee.[12]

In 1989, he was posthumously inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.

Tyson vs Thunder

These guys are very evenly matched. Tyson is coming off 2 wins in 2 Contenders appearances via submission. The slick purple belt is one win away from the bright lights and oily men of the RHOE. Not to mention a nice jump in pay scales. Standing in his way is the the decision machine known as Denton Thunder. With a perfect record of 4-0 all via bribing the judges ( allegedly) Thunder looks to make it 5-0 and make the jump into the RHOE. We caught up with Thunder prior to the fight and he told us he is dead broke and is in the hole about 226.03 to a bookie that promised to break his legs if he didn't get his money. Maybe his manager Pico can front him the cash, if not Thunder will soon be hobbling around the freeway off ramp with a "Will Work for Food" sign.

Torres vs Silva de Luciano

Torres is slightly off weight fellow is making his Contenders debut against fellow new comer Silva de Luciano Villa Rodrigues Teixiera Aldo. Say that three times fast. Torres is sporting an impressive 4-1 record, the majority coming off submission wins. Silva de Luciano Villa Rodrigues Teixiera Aldo is also a brown belt and all his wins have come via submission. Aside from needing an extra sheet of paper on his contract to fit his name, Silva de Luciano Villa Rodrigues Teixeira Aldo told us he enjoys gardening, long walks on the beach and laughing at people trying to fit his name on the 'To:' line on envelopes.

Contenders – Amos Milburn

This marks the last event named after Blues players.

About Amos Milburn

This man loved to sing about drinking.

Amos Milburn (April 1, 1927 – January 3, 1980) was an African American rhythm and blues singer, and pianist, popular during the 1940s and 1950s. He was born and died in Houston, Texas.

Born in Houston, one of thirteen children, by the age of five years Milburn was playing tunes by piano. He enlisted in the United States Navy when he was fifteen and earned thirteen battle stars in the Philippines, before returning to Houston and organizing a sixteen-piece band playing in Houston clubs, and participating with the Houston jazz and blues musicians. He was a polished pianist and performer and during 1946 attracted the attention of a woman who arranged a recording session with Aladdin Records in Los Angeles. Milburn's relationship with Aladdin lasted eight years during which he produced more than seventy-five sides. His cover version of "Down the Road a Piece" (1946) was a blues song with a Texas boogie beat that was similar in many respects to rock music. However, none became popular until 1949 when seven of his singles got the attention of the R&B audience. "Hold Me Baby" and "Chicken Shack Boogie" landed numbers eight and nine on Billboard's survey of 1949's R&B Bestsellers. He became one of the main performers associated with Central Avenue of Los Angeles' Watts neighborhood. He was also a popular touring artist, and won awards from both Down Beat magazine (Best Blues and Jazz Star) and Billboard magazine (Top R&B Artist). Among his best known songs was "One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer". During 1950 Milburn's "Bad, Bad, Whiskey" scored the top of the R&B record chart and began a series of drinking songs (none written by Milburn, but several composed by Rudy Toombs). However, there is not any evidence that Milburn had an alcohol problem.

Milburn's final recording was for an album by Johnny Otis. This was during 1972 after he had been incapacitated by a stroke, so much so that Otis had to play the left-hand piano parts for his enfeebled old friend. His second stroke resulted in amputation of a leg because of circulatory problems. He died soon after at the age of 52 years from a third stroke.

Pitt v Cardon

The stand out wrestler Cardon has never tasted the bitter, slightly acidic taste of defeat. His only blemish if you can call it that is a draw. He has managed to finish 3 of his 5 opponents via TKO. This might prove to be a match made in heaven for Cardon as Pitt tends to bleed like a stuck pig when someone brushes his tissue paper thick skin. Pitt is coming off a couple of tough loses in the now defunct BAR organization. Pitt was heard saying that he "Hopes they both die." Not sure if he meant he and Cardon or his now ex-wife that he caught cheating in his own bed with a pair of conjoined midget twins. Pitt lost everything in the divorce including his beloved Chihuahua, Senor.

Co-Main

Warren v Levine

Reggie Warren is also a former BAR fighter. He lost his last fight to the very tough Paulo Reyes. Warren is hoping to rebound off it and start his climb to the top. If he succeeds The RHOE is waiting, and so is Mr. Reyes who penned a contract with them. He is facing Levine the Decision Machine. Levine is coming off 2 solid wins. Levine was once in the magical land of oily men and public bath houses of the RHOE. He was sent down after a string of loses left him broken and battered. He hopes to return to the winning side of things and work his way back to Mr. Tapeleg's nurturing bosom.

Contenders – Ice Cube

Yeah, Yeah!

About Ice Cube

This is before he started making shitty movies.

O'Shea Jackson (born June 15, 1969), better known by his stage name Ice Cube, is an American rapper, actor, screenwriter, film director, and producer. He began his career as a member of C.I.A and later joined the rap group N.W.A. After leaving N.W.A in 1989, he built a successful solo career in music, and also as a writer, director, actor and producer in cinema.

In 1987, Jackson and Dr. Dre released the single My Posse, under the alias CIA. After the collaboration, Jackson showed Eazy-E the lyrics to "Boyz-n-the-Hood". Eazy-E, although initially rejecting the lyrics, eventually recorded the song for N.W.A. and the Posse, the debut album for the group N.W.A that included him, Dre, and other rappers MC Ren and DJ Yella.

By this point Jackson was a full-time member of N.W.A along with Dr. Dre and MC Ren. Jackson wrote Dr. Dre and Eazy-E's rhymes for the group's landmark album, Straight Outta Compton, released in 1988. However, as 1990 approached, Jackson found himself at odds with the group's manager, Jerry Heller, after Heller responded to the group's financial questions by drafting up a new arrangement.

Since Jackson wrote the lyrics to approximately half of both Straight Outta Compton, and Eazy-E's solo album, Eazy-Duz-It, he was advised of the amounts he was truly owed by Heller, and proceeded to take legal action, soon after leaving the group and the label. In response, the remaining N.W.A members attacked him on the EP 100 Miles and Runnin', as well as their next and final album, Efil4zaggin.

In 1989, Jackson recorded his debut solo album in Los Angeles with the Bomb Squad (Public Enemy's production team). AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted was released in May 1990 and was an instant hit, riding and contributing to the rising tide of rap's popularity in mainstream society. The album was charged with controversy, and he was accused of misogyny, and racism. Subsequently, Jackson appointed the female rapper Yo-Yo (who appeared on AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted) to the head of his own record label and helped produce her debut album, Make Way for the Motherlode. This was followed by a critically acclaimed role as 'Doughboy' in John Singleton's hood-based drama, Boyz n the Hood. In the same year as AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted, Jackson released the acclaimed EP, Kill At Will which sold well, becoming the first hip hop EP to go both Gold and Platinum.

In 1996, Jackson formed Westside Connection with Mack 10 and WC, and together they released an album called Bow Down. Most of the album was used to engage in the war of words between the East and West Coasts of the 90s. The album's eponymous single reached number twenty-one on the singles charts, and the album itself was certified Platinum by the end of 1996. With Bow Down, Westside Connection brought their own agenda to the hip hop scene. Ice Cube, Mack 10, and WC had grown tired of being overlooked by most East Coast media outlets; the album was designed to instill a sense of pride in West Coast rap fans and to start a larger movement that anyone who felt underappreciated might identify with.

Weezinng v Cardoso

Cardoso the 3-0 knock out artist is facing off against the chain smoking Weezing. Cardoso has an impressive 3 knocks in as many fights. This man's hands are packed with TnT. Weezing is 4-1 with his only loss coming off being submitted. Weezing is fighting to support his 10 pack a day habit of Camels and throat lozenges. During an interview he revealed to Contender's reporter Chet Ubetcha that he started smoking at a very young age. Instead of a pacifier his mother would shove a cigarette into his mouth and lit it. Oddly enough Weezing took to smoking almost instinctively and as a result makes millions a s spokes person for Camels.

Co-Main

Bong v Akkari

This might as well read boxer v grappler or boxer v Muay Thai. Bong is an ex boxing champ in the prestigious all boys school Francs un Weiner. He is sporting a perfect record of 3-0. He is facing Akkari the Muay Thai fighter and brown belt in BJJ. El Toro Loco came to us from BAR and is riding high on a 4 fight win streak. Bong is looking to snap that streak and move up to 4-0. Bong told 'High Times' magazine in a recent interview that he and Woody Harrelson are very close friends and often hang out with Joe Rogan and Willie Nelson to discuss the state of all things weed.
