verbalkint
... just read JLP's thread where he linked a FOTY candidate and i thought, why not start a thread for such stuff - so that nothing gets lost and i am quite sure it will be a good read the whole year trough. Gosh that Grimm dude kicked my ass pretty bad once, too: http://mmatycoon.com/fightcommentary.php?FTID=617263Awesome fight. Grimm and Carlton put on a show. Probably one of the best I've read this year.
Rambo
The results pain me, but denial is unhealthy... Sub of the Year 2014 http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/fight/sub2.gif Williams has an Americana. Creel didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Williams is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Williams hooks up with any of them at the after show party. Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Kane Williams! To cap it out, gyrating in front of the ring girls. This better win next year. Even though, TKO's with lame text from ground position have won KOTY twice in a row, so I don't have much faith on the best sub actually being seleced.
Rambo
and this is an early candidate for KOTY 2014, but I'm sure the forums will select another TKO that took place on the ground... Creel looks for a left high kick but can't connect. Creel backs up to catch a breather... no he lunges forward with a huge flying knee that smacks Samba's temple! It sends Samba violently to the canvas! The crowd goes nuts as Creel celebrates and the doctors try to help Samba!Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Flying Knee). Carl Creel!
Guest
http://www.mmatycoon.com/fightcommentary.php?FTID=638403 should be a FOTY candidate as well. Grimm/Carlton was better (and a five rounder) but the Lance Fight was pretty epic.EDIT: I just re-read it and there never was a message about LT getting his legs back after being rocked early, so I like to imagine that he beat the crap out of Kilkenny for 10 minutes while rocked. ArtieBanks
http://mmatycoon.com/fightcommentary.php?FTID=634385 FOTY, KOTY and Comeback of the year all in one. reminded me of Tonal, Otto getting the business the same way Kalle did. Rambo
Anytime a TKO wins KOTY over a pure KO - it's a tragedy. That'd be like Matt Hughes winning KOTY for TKOing Royce/Renzo Gracie. Or in Bennett vs Otto's case, Cain winning KOTY for his wins vs Big Foot, over Dan Henderson vs Bisping or Weidman vs Silva. In fairness, Bennett's knockout of Otto would be a HUGE improvement over the previous winners for mmatycoon's KOTY.

JLP
It's all just flavor text, so I would vote more on how big the fight was and how hard the victim has been to KO/submit in his career.
Rambo
It's all just flavor text, so I would vote more on how big the fight was and how hard the victim has been to KO/submit in his career. Flavor text must be a key to the vote. When an org owner hands out OTN awards, they should/usually hand them out based off flavor text. You judge flavor text first, and then add that aspect to it after. To me it seems completely pointless to do a fighter interview if it's anything else. Fighters are just randomly generated numbers anyway, hidden with a customizable interface.. Marciano drops Williams with a naaaaasty hook - Williams is in real trouble here! Marciano dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts! Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Don Marciano! Puno circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Digits drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Puno follows Digits to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over! Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:28 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Fidel Puno! Diggs scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Nolan is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Diggs can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent! Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Moses Diggs! Quik takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Stone's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish. Ladies and gentlemen, after 6:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ben Stone! VS Ironz gets hit by the mother of all head kicks and drops to the canvas in a crumpled heap! Woooow, the Internet is going to be talking about this one for weeks! Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Don Marciano! Proudstar postures up and throws a big right hand. BOOM! Right on the button! Shillings is out cold - huge knockout for Proudstar! Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). James Proudstar! Paulsen is keeping his hands low and just asking to be knocked out. Puno Raises his leg and lands a stunning axe kick! Paulsen is out cold, face down on the mat! Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Fidel Puno! BAM! Puno delivers a spinning backfist that drops Puno Jr like a ragdoll! This is all oooooveeeer! He was out before he hit the ground! Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:17 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Spinning Backfist). Fidel Puno! First four have no business being on a list with them.
dbsh209
http://www.mmatycoon.com/fightcommentary.php?FTID=633347 I thought this was a really entertaining ground fight.
JLP
That the fighters are random numbers is the reason that I save my vote for KO's/subs of fighters that have proved resilient to them. If the randomly generated numbers of a certain fighter are more difficult to sub or KO then I am more impressed by that occurrence. Voting based on the perceived impressiveness of a randomly generated piece of flavor text strikes me as rather fickle. I don't see how this effects fighter interviews/roleplay as they are a result of the imagination of the managers. Pretty much the exact opposite of the random flavor text. That's just my criteria though. Everyone has their own.
Rambo
Fighter Interviews = imagination if that's the case I feel like the text of the fights should be viewed with some imagination. http://cdn0.sbnation.com/fan_shot_images/250289/564691513.gif http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/229/files/2014/01/Mark-Hunt-KO-1.gif http://file.walagata.com/w/smn620/jon-jones_mauricio-rua.jpg Mark Hunt vs Struve takes the cake. Doesn't matter how anybody judges it, I've accepted that http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4v8dyplHY1qzkmw2o1_400.gif is good enough for KOTY. Guest
I roll with you CK. Event rating is looked at first, then straight KO is rated higher than (T)KO, rare stuff over normal punches (i.e. spinning backfist, superman punch, etc), and then it is how hard the guy fought for that KO or speed of KO, depending how I feel.

Thats how I do it when i pick awards for ITFL, but for KO/sub of the year I have much higher standards. When I consider OTY awards it has much more to do with how difficult the opponent has been to put away in their career. A superman punch to a glass jawed opponent is cool in the small sample size of one card, but I dont care about it in comparison to the thousands of KO's that have taken place over a year.
ArtieBanks
Wouldn't that make KO of the year a farce. You would not only have to have the luck of getting knockout against your opponent but you would also have to hope that the flavor text was in your favor. Anderson Silvas triangle vs Sonnen was not the best sub of the year. Under the circumstances and what it meant though that is why it won the award. Bennet after being dropped, losing every round to come back and win the fight in the final round. I have always voted for the KO/Sub/Fight of the year for the fight that made me go holy shit. Some bit of flavor text doesn't come into consideration when it comes to KO of the year for me. Also when it came to OTN bonus for KO? It was for the fight that made me go oh shit, not for some flavor text. Yes headkicks scored highly in the holy shit knockouts since they tend to be flash ko's. soyster89
KOTY should be a KO finish and not a TKO. A TKO winning that award is just wrong. That said, considering the entirety of the fight is appropriate too, as JLP stated.

Flavor text should be the first attribute, and then you apply the JLP and Soyster factors with the 'holy shit' factor. Tonal vs STP wasn't a holy shit moment, 99% of tycoon knew he would KO him. TDWP wins sub of the year, every year? Certain knockouts are a lot rarer than the TKO flavor text. People have their own opinions of things, I favor flavor text. KOTY should be a KO finish and not a TKO. A TKO winning that award is just wrong. That said, considering the entirety of the fight is appropriate too, as JLP stated. Exactly, and it definitely shouldn't be a TKO from the ground.
