IFC Mid Week 28 Island vs Thomas

(May 23rd, 2018 - King Theatre - Los Angeles)

Prelims

Fight 1 - Lightweight Division

(1-0, 145 lbs) Jack McDonald VS (0-2, 157 lbs) Randall “Black” Jackson

This fight will probably be one of the greatest opening fights in IFC history as both of these fighters are extremely talented and highly skilled fighters. McDonald comes from a TWGC background and at twenty two has earned himself a black belt and very well regarded wrestling skills to go with it. Jackson on the other hand is much more skilled than his 0-2 record would lead one to believe, because he last fought in September of last year. This will be the debut in the IFC for both of these fighters and should they have long careers in the organization, you can expect either one or both of these fighters to be headliners further along in their careers.

Fight 2 - Middleweight Division

(2-2, 185 lbs) Wrecking Ball VS (4-8, 185 lbs) Lord “God Of Destruction” Beerus

Ball versus Beerus is a fight between two of the stronger fighters who have yet to make it passed the fighters in the middle of the pack. Ball ran into Zaad, won, then lost to Average and finds himself defeating those he should beat and losing to those slightly at or above his own skill level. Beerus on the other hand has only one strength which has led to him being punished as having nothing, but jiu jitsu and no reliable way to use it as resulted in lackluster fights. However, with wrestling and jiu jitsu being Ball’s strengths he will be playing into Beerus’ only good skill making for an entertaining fight.

Undercard

Fight 3 - Middleweight Division

(3-3, 220 lbs) Pacer “The Turnip” Dalton VS (3-3, 220 lbs) General Snus

Dalton has done reasonably well for himself since joining the IFC for his debut. He is an extremely capable wrestler who can take down just about any opponent he faces. However, he has had trouble against jiu jitsu artists as shown in his record with 2 of his three losses being via submission. However, his last loss was probably the most concerning as he did what he needed to do, getting his striker opponent to the ground, but he then proceeded to fail transitions repeatedly and do nothing else. If he can learn from the loss and change up his ground strategy he should get right back on track, rising through the division as he is a very good fighter.

Snus is another capable wrestler, however he has branched off into jiu jitsu almost equal to his wrestling capabilities, with some boxing thrown into the mix as well. This will be his first IFC fight, but he has fought a name some of you may know in the IFC in Durnin who is currently 2-0 in the IFC. If he can be as successful as Durnin was upon joining we may see Snus making it into the main card sooner rather than later.

This is a tough fight to predict, because of Dalton’s strategy in his last fight, however he has beaten a fighter similar to Snus in skill set previously and as such I’ll give Dalton the advantage coming in.

Fight 4 - Lightweight Division

(6-5, 152 lbs) Sirimongkol Niyotrong VS (4-2, 162 lbs) Al “The Butcher” Swearengen

Niyotrong had a very successful run somewhat recently up until he hit the upper tier of the rankings and came face to face with some of the top fighters outside of the rankings. His last fight against Entei came down to a decision and he will want to avoid that in this one as he faces The Butcher. The man from Thailand wants to make his homeland proud and using the martial art that they are known for.

Swearengen has fought only twice since joining the IFC, going 1-1 with his only loss coming against Bogard who was formerly in the power rankings. Now after a little over a month away from the octagon we get to see how he will recover from his difficult decision loss against an opponent also coming off of a tough decision loss.

This fight looks to be a very close one as each fighter has strengths to play on. Swearengen should have an advantage on the ground, while Niyotrong’s muay thai is strong enough to suppress Swearengen’s own skill. However, given the fact Niyotrong has defeated better jiu jitsu artists than Swearengen I give him then advantage for this fight.

Fight 5 - Lightweight Division

(3-1, 166 lbs) Tytus “No Neck” Aleksy VS (3-0, 155 lbs) Nando Vasquez

Aleksy has lost only one fight which was his debut against Krieg. He has now won three straight, gradually rising through the rankings with apparent ease. This 21 year old from Poland is one of the most skilled of the younger fighters so he is another that those in the power rankings have their eye on. While he has been rising slowly through the rankings he has the skills that enable him to do so and once he has built up experience he will almost assuredly be challenging for the top.

Vasquez was a very exciting acquisition for the IFC as his name is not just known in the IFC considering the fact that he is a TWGC world champion. Despite this fact, in his mma career he has three knockouts and zero submissions utilizing impressive striking that those in the TWGC never had to worry about. Normally one would expect the world champion grappler to rely on grappling even after switching to mma, but this fighter seems to be at a high level in all aspects making him a threat to anybody he goes against, because of the diversity his skill set allows him.

Both of these fighters are extremely high level in almost all aspects, and given the fact that both of their managers are currently ranked in the top 60 we can expect a high level strategy coming into the fight as well. Judging purely based on technique I’d have to give Aleksy the advantage coming in, but if Vasquez can make use of his superior jiu jitsu he definitely has a chance to win this fight.

Fight 6 - Middleweight Division

#12(5-1, 205 lbs) Hen Nessy VS #15(6-3, 192 lbs) Alex Stefanovic

You know its going to be an exciting night when the 12th and 15th ranked fighters face off in the undercard. Nessy has now fought twice within the IFC beating Mollen and Bogard via TKO and submission to earn himself the 12th seed in the middleweight division. He is one of the few fighters who is able to dominate both standing and on the ground with exceptional boxing and a black belt. Nessy will definitely not settle for the 12th spot as his eyes are on the prize around the champs waist. Anything short of the top will be a disappointment for a fighter like Nessy.

Stefanovic started his career with the IFC, going 3-2 before leaving for another organization where he served a 3 fight contract before returning. Upon returning he beat Gregor in the first round and is now poised at the 15th position to try and climb higher by going through the 12th ranked Nessy. He has an extremely high level of ability in muay thai and wrestling with only slightly worse boxing, but rather lackluster jiu jitsu. If he can shore up his jiu jitsu he will definitely rip through the ranking fighters with ease.

In a fight between a black belt and a blue belt one would expect the blue belt to lose, however this fight is not nearly so cut and dry. With Stefanovic’s level in muay thai its hard to say who will win, although due to the jiu jitsu advantage I think Nessy is the favorite going in.

Main Card

Fight 7 - Lightweight Division

#13(7-4, 165 lbs) Tzwrtzos Peidis VS #14(10-3, 130 lbs) Gunter “Meat Hooks” Schultz

Many people who take a look at Peidis and see that he is only 2-3 in the IFC may wonder how exactly he has earned himself the 13th rank in arguably the toughest division in the organization. However, he has run through a gauntlet of tough opponents and while he has not come out on top against the very high ranked opponents he has beaten those trying to make their way into the rankings. As such he has played gatekeeper, stopping those not good enough for the rankings from getting onto rankings they don’t belong. However, this is not his goal, he does not want to stay in the bottom part of the rankings for long as he has the skill to take on those above them if he can just shore up his ground grappling game.

Schultz is exactly the opponent Peidis most fears. A man with the jiu jitsu to earn himself 9 submission victories in only 13 fights. Both of his fights in the IFC have been impressive shows where he has proven that despite being only two fights into his career in the IFC he belongs with the names at the top. A win here would have him climbing even higher and coming closer to facing the names synonymous with the IFC lightweight division.

This fight will most assuredly center around the wrestling of both of these fighters. With each fighter having equal wrestling skills, this fight will come down to who is physically superior as well as who can gameplan better around the takedown game. I believe that Schultz will come out on top merely, because it takes only one takedown for him to abuse Peidis’ very poor jiu jitsu game and as such Peidis will have to fight perfectly to win this fight.

Fight 8 - Heavyweight Division

(11-8, 270 lbs) Vincent Lemieux VS #10(9-4, 275 lbs) Vladimir “The Horizontal” Impaler

Until somewhat recently Lemieux’s name was one of those talked about with those at the top of heavyweight division. However, due to three straight losses his name fell out of the rankings and into obscurity. His win over Thot reset the scales and he is ready to try to once again make his way onto the power rankings with those he was previously side by side with.

Impaler had himself poised for a title shot with nothing in his way other than Rasputin. Just about every expert who predicted the fight thought he had it in the bag and would be the next person challenging the champion for the belt. Unfortunately for Impaler he found himself on the losing end and he slipped down in the rankings. He then followed that up with another loss to Tchusak in a fight he was not disfavored in and many were attributing the loss to his despondency over the missed title shot. Now we will get to find out if this fighter can finally recover and get himself back to where he needs to be to once again make a run at the top.

These fighters are almost equally skilled in every regard, which should make for a very interesting fight to watch. Impaler should be the favorite going in even with the questions over his mental state after losing two straight, but Lemieux is not a fighter to be underestimated and if Impaler takes it for granted he will find himself on a three fight losing streak wondering if his name will even be in the top 15.

Co-Main Event - Middleweight Division

#4(12-5, 190 lbs) Brooklyn Brawler VS #3(11-4, 210 lbs) Damien “Avalon D” OQuinn

Brawler found himself in the #1 contender fight opposite of Heavyweight the man who had control of the #1 contender spot basically since joining the IFC. Brawler found himself on the losing end of a tough 3 round fight eventually getting knocked out and losing his shot at a title fight. However, Brawler is not a man that will ever fail to get back up again after being knocked down and you can expect him to make a surging return in this fight as he takes on the third seed OQuinn and an exciting fight to see who remains in the top 5 of the middleweight division.

OQuinn has been very vocal about his desires for a title fight. Unfortunately for him he found himself stopped by Heavyweight just like almost everyone else who tried to rise into that #1 contender spot. Now he gets his shot at facing the man most recently shut down by heavyweight, or the rights to try and take away that #1 contender spot once again regardless of who holds the belt.

These fighters are almost dead even in terms of technique. If fights were determined merely by technique we could just call it a draw and walk away, however there is a lot more to this wonderful combative sport we all know and love. I have to give the edge to Brawler due to his sheer history as being someone at the top of the rankings throughout his career, knocking out some of the biggest names in the middleweight division.

Main Event - Lightweight Division

#3(12-6, 145 lbs) Mister Island VS #5(7-3, 170 lbs) Jax “Punch” Thomas

Island looked impressive coming into his title shot, winning his first three fights in the IFC, all against opponents in the power rankings and all via submission. Going into the fight everyone knew he would be Chugman’s biggest challenge yet and we were not disappointed as he was the first challenger able to go a full 5 rounds against the champ. Unfortunately he found himself on the losing side of the decision and must earn his way back up to the top of the division to try his hand once again at taking the belt.

When Island was taking his shot at the belt no one knew who Thomas was as he had yet to even debut in the organization. However, after his defeat of Lomachenko there wasn’t anyone in the lightweight division who didn’t know his name as he proved that he deserved a spot in the top 10 and eventually the top 5 of rankings. Now he gets to test himself against the greatest challenger ever to face the champ in what looks to be a great fight where he gets a preview to how exactly he may perform should he find himself in a title fight in the near future.

This fight hinges upon Island getting Thomas to the ground, because Thomas is by far the superior striker. However, surprisingly Thomas is the superior wrestler as well so if one looks at technique he should be the clear favorite and it will be on Island to prove that the third spot in the rankings should remain his despite this promising new fighter to the IFC.

IFC 52 Chugman vs Mumu

(May 26th, 2018 - Venice Beach - Los Angeles)

Prelims

Fight 1 - Lightweight Division

(4-6, 142 lbs) “I Weigh” One Fortytwo VS (9-9, 153 lbs) Crack Head “Roks”

Opening up our night we have two fighters who have had mixed results, but have spent a majority (all of in Fortytwo’s case) of their careers in the IFC. While neither one of these fighters has established themselves as an upper tier fighter, they have not done so bad as to have an abysmal record. They are both still relatively young and only recently seen the fruits of their training start to come into being. This should make for an interesting fight as both fighters try and start off the night with a bang.

Fight 2 - Lightweight Division

(2-1, 142 lbs) Cahal Jefferson VS (3-2-1, 149 lbs) Ethan Sheehy

The fact that these two fighters are in the prelims for the night shows just how jampacked this night is with great fighters. Jefferson has only fought in the IFC so far in his mma career, but coming from KT roots he is a relatively experienced fighter for his age. Sheehy on the other hand started out in NJMMA, only leaving for the IFC recently with only one fight so far with the IFC organization, in which he defeated Aukhadov. This black belt has a relatively diverse skill set, but so far has primarily relied on his jiu jitsu to net himself victories. These two should put on a show for the fans to see with the biggest question mark being whether or not Jefferson can keep his feet or not.

Undercard

Fight 3 - Middleweight Division

(7-11, 210 lbs) James “The Nervous” Gregor VS (3-2, 191 lbs) Vincenzo Hall

Gregor is a much better fighter than his record would have you believe. His manager prioritized gaining experience over a fluffy good looking record and this has molded him into the surging fighter that he is. He beat two of the stronger fighters outside of the power rankings in a row, but then lost to Stefanovic in a fight where the winner made his way into the top 15. While he may have missed this particular chance at the rankings with his skill set it seems inevitable that he will eventually make his way on the power rankings.

Hall only recently made his IFC debut with a victory over Mason and is now on a three fight win streak. He has showed dominance through the use of sensational wrestling and decent stand up as well. While he hasn’t made much of a name for himself in the IFC yet, beating Gregor would go far in proving he belongs with those at the top.

Gregor will have his work cut out in this one as he will have to stuff takedown attempt after takedown attempt by Hall in order to seize the advantage. However, I believe he is up to the task and expect him to manage a victory albeit in a very close fight.

Fight 4 - Middleweight Division

(7-4, 175 lbs) Duc Minh “Ram” Pham VS (3-0, 199 lbs) Da Hee Tong

Pham’s win in his last bout against Ragnar was shocking to those who predicted the outcome of the fight. However, he came out of it with a first round knockout and a lot of respect from everyone in the IFC. Beating someone thought of as a future contender naturally raises expectations on yourself and now we get to see if Pham can continue with a victory over another high level opponent, this one from a different organization.

Tong comes to the IFC after an undefeated 3 fight stint in the AFC. He has shown diversity in how he wins which makes him a tough fighter to gameplan against as you never know whether his jiu jitsu or his muay thai will be his weapon of choice. This fight should establish just how strong he actually is and give him a place within the power structure of the IFC middleweight division.

Pham should have the advantage in this one, because of his advantage in the clinch, however Tong’s jiu jitsu could tip the advantage in his favor so this fight is far from a set result.

Fight 5 - Lightweight Division

(9-5-2, 155 lbs) Harry Entei VS (5-7, 165 lbs) Kung Le

Entei has been on the cusp of pushing his way onto the power rankings since joining the IFC. He has beaten Xavier and Niyotrong both fighters considered near the top of the lightweight division and only his loss against Lopez is keeping him from actually making his way onto said rankings. His muay thai is some of the strongest in the IFC and his wrestling is not much worse, making it very difficult to push any kind of advantage against him.

Le will have his hands full trying to do so. However, he has started fresh recently with a new manager and managed to win his first fight since dropping the last manager. Another victory would put him at 3-3 since joining the IFC and would cap off a three fight win streak showing a complete reversal of his previous fight history.

In order for Entei to halt Le’s momentum he will have to rely heavily on his muay thai as his opponent’s jiu jitsu makes wrestling a risky proposition. However, its hard to bet against Entei considering his fights since joining the IFC and I expect him to make another strong case for himself to be put on the power rankings.

Fight 6 - Middleweight Division

#9(12-8, 180 lbs) Alexander Porto VS (9-3, 207 lbs) Kamden “The Situation” Jackson

Porto is on a tear recently with three straight victories over strong opponents and has managed to make his way into the top 10 of the middleweight division. Many thought there was little left for this 29 year old, but this most recent win streak has shown he has a lot left in the tank and apparently, the skills to go with it as well. While he doesn’t appear to be the best technique wise, something has resulted in him winning consistently again and anyone who ends up against him will need to figure out what exactly is going on with this fight.

Jackson’s debut against Arial was a showcase of why Jackson is the #1 p4p grappler at his weight and the reigning champion in the twgc. The slam that knocked his opponent out was so powerful many were worried his opponent may never walk again. Now, he finds himself going up against the ninth ranked fight in the IFC and a chance to prove that his grappling skills are good enough to carry him into the power rankings of an mma organization.

Porto looks like the clear favorite in this fight, however Jackson didn’t get the grappling belt through dumb luck so this should prove to be a very interesting fight.

Main Card

Fight 7 - Heavyweight Division

#4(11-5, 230 lbs) Schmorgen Biscuit VS #7(7-2, 233 lbs) Big Murha

Biscuit is one of the most technically well rounded fighters in the IFC. This shows in his spot at fourth in the rankings as he has beaten Couture and Bell to get there, although other top fighters losing is a big part of what helped him climb in the rankings. Now he finds himself up against a slumping ex champ in Murha and the chance to prove that he has what it takes to beat the man who used to have the belt around his waist.

Murha has been slumping as of late, losing his belt to Tower and then losing the follow up fight to Turkey. However, Murha is still an amazing fighter and even losing two in a row, he only dropped to 7th in the rankings. He is a proven contender and it is unlikely he will ever drop out of the power rankings of the IFC. Now he finds himself in the main card up against a fighter who has not yet proven himself against a fighter in the top 10 of the division, with a chance to show his opponent how harsh the top really is.

This fight should be an amazing fight to witness as one fighter has only recently fallen out of the top 5, while the other got into the top 5, but has yet to prove that he belongs there. Murha appears to have the advantage standing, but Biscuit has better jiu jitsu than his opponent and striking nearly on par with his opponent’s. Due to the fact Murha has proven himself against difficult opponents I give him the advantage against the unproven Biscuit.

Fight 8 - Middleweight Division

(12-4, 200 lbs) Dany Crosby VS (8-8, 180 lbs) Tommy “2 Times” DeVito

Crosby made his debut in the IFC against Porto and found himself on the losing end of a 3 round dirty boxing nightmare that found him flat on his back being saved by the ref. However, he is still one of the stronger strikers in the middleweight division and should not be underestimated by anyone. He has both the boxing and the wrestling to enable him to keep his feet and keep hitting the whole time there.

DeVito is making his debut in this fight and it will hinge upon his wrestling. DeVito has gradually been learning striking, however he still is completely reliant on his ground game and you can expect him to have to do so in this fight as well. During his time on the island he did decently even managing to earn himself a title shot. Unfortunately, he found himself on the losing end of the title fight and never quite on top of his class.

This fight will obviously hinge on whether or not Crosby can stuff DeVito’s takedown attempts. Which I believe he will be able to do, earning himself a much needed first victory in the IFC octagon and putting a damper on a new fighter’s appearance in the organization.

Co-Main Event - Heavyweight Division

#2(9-3, 235 lbs) Japa Koniu VS #5(9-3, 270 lbs) Wild Turkey

Koniu has been one of the top fighters in the IFC since joining the organization, eventually fighting his way to a title shot after the divisional split. While the fight didn’t go the way he wanted, he definitely made an impression on the fans in the IFC cemented his place in the IFC power rankings. However, his loss to Rasputin made many people question whether or not he was as strong as he appeared in his title shot. Rasputin has since went on to show that losing to him is not as bad as it appears as he is now getting a title shot of his own. Koniu definitely wants to get another shot at the championship belt no matter who holds it at the time and winning this fight would go a long way toward proving he deserves it.

Turkey has only had two fights since joining the IFC, but came in very highly regarded and instantly proved himself, beating Snapp another promising fighter making his debut with the organization. However, the real game changer for Turkey was beating former champion Big Murha in an exciting fight that went the distance and ultimately ended with Turkey as the winner.

The winner of this fight will ultimately set himself up for the next title fight so we can expect a very exciting match as each of these boxers tries to earn himself a spot in the next title fight. Due to his victory over Murha I would give Turkey the advantage in this fight, but it should be a very close fight.

Main Event - IFC Lightweight Championship Title Fight

(Champion)(15-2, 130 lbs) Klaus “The House” Chugman VS #1(8-1, 169 lbs) Abdel “Fur Coat” Mumu

Finally we make our way into the main event of the night as Klaus Chugman takes on Abdel Mumu in a five round title fight to decide who gets to be our lightweight champion.

Any person who doesn’t know who Chugman is hasn’t been around the IFC since the divisional split. He is now the only original champion from the split to retain his belt and has no defended it three times. His one dimensional fighting style would lead one to believe his run wouldn’t last, but he has won fight after fight against opponents with much more diverse fighting styles, some of which who also had equal jiu jitsu. This is not a champion to be trifled with and we can expect a great fight tonight as he takes on yet another challenger.

Mumu has been clamoring for a title fight since joining the IFC and in his fight against Shadow he showed that he had good reason for his cockiness. He left the WCI having never lost his belt there and now finds himself poised to take a different belt in another organization. If you were to ask him he has zero chance of losing this fight and this confidence has served him well so far in his career.

However, this time around he is meeting the long time champ Chugman and while his confidence is not unfounded he will surely be put to the test in this fight. Chugman didn’t look perfect in his last fight against Sainty, and while Mumu isn’t nearly as good at jiu jitsu as Sainty he is definitely equally as skilled making this a very fun fight with very to little way of knowing who will come out on top. However, the IFC has had Chugman as the champ for a while and you can’t bet against a man who has been the champion in the lightweight division since I took over the organization.

Hello, Chugman its great to finally talk to you face to face after you have been the face of the lightweight division in the IFC for so long.

How are you feeling with your match coming up this weekend?

Face of the lightweight division? Really? Well I don't know about all that but thanks!

How do I feel about the match? Well boy oh boy he's a tough one but I'll be doing my bestest to wrassle him down. I just hope he doesn't hit me hard. I hate when they hit me hard :(

You say you don't want to get hit hard, but you seem to have done well against strikers whereas your most recent fight against Island appeared to be your toughest fight yet. Would you say you actually struggled more in another fight?

Well I used to fight against the real big guys and they were always super tough but I suppose Mr Island was tough too. I have lost a couple of fights though you know? One of those guys is still here and in this division too! I'd really like another round with him one day. I know I'd wrassle him up good this time round for sure.

You seem a very humble person. Your opponent on the other hand is the opposite, he has told me that you are such an easy opponent he doesn't even need to do any preparation for his fight with you. Would you say he is that good of a fighter, or is his cockiness going to be his downfall?

Aww well that's a pretty mean thing to say and I'm thinking I might be a little angrier now but I'll try to forgive him. I reckon that lots of those others that came to wrassle me thought I'd be an easy fight too but not no more. No sir! Does he like to wrassle?

Your opponent's reaction to your question was "Yeeeeeee buddy! Come take me down and get submitted by a purple belt. 50% submission success rate, let's roll around ye?!".

Oh boy oh boy that's some great news. This is going to be so much fun. I love to wrassle too! Ain't nothing but a peanut!

I'm here with Mumu the man who after only one fight in the IFC is taking on the longest standing champion since the divisional split. How is your preparation going for the upcoming match this weekend?

Preparation? For this bum? I've been eating donuts and brushing my chest hair all day long. I've never seen such a one trick pony in my life. I'm gonna take that head off clean in minutes!

Wow I'm surprised you are so confident going up against a fighter who has managed to defend his title three times since attaining it. Many would say you are overconfident going into this fight what would you say to those doubters?

Don't care, brush your hair is what I would say, and you can quote me on that! He's never faced a striker like me before, and if he does manage to take the fight to the ground, I'll just go ahead and submit his scrawny ass.

You were a former champion in the WCI, what made you decide to leave the organization, and why did you choose to join the IFC?

Owner drove his company into the ground and refused to pay Fur Coat, and Fur Coat goes where the money goes!

Chugman is not impressed by your confidence as just about every opponent he has faced has been just as confident as you yourself are. He wants to know if you like to wrassle?

Yeeeeeee buddy! Come take me down and get submitted by a purple belt. 50% submission success rate, let's roll around ye?!

Well on that Note we can just wait and see what future Saturday's fight card will bring as these two fighters leave everything in the ring.

IFC MW 29 Murhaa vs Heavyweight

(May 30th, 2018 - King Theatre - Los Angeles)

Prelims

Fight 1 - Lightweight Division

(7-12, 140 lbs) Gin Kobra VS (5-13, 167 lbs) Boyd “The Vanilla Og” Clark

We open up our night with Kobra versus Clark fighting it out in the lightweight division. Both fighters have been struggling in the IFC pretty much since joining and have even fought eachother once before. The end result being a decision victory for Kobra, although it was much more one sided than the results would show as Kobra dominated standing. Now Clark gets his chance for revenge and will hope to do so at King Theatre on the 30th.

Fight 2 - Heavyweight Division

(4-6, 285 lbs) Pete “Red Bull” Blowkarski VS (7-12, 238 lbs) En “Metal Priest” Esch

Following up the opener we go from the lightweight straight to the heavyweights as Blowkarski meets Esch. Blowkarski’s record would have one believe that he is a sub par fighter, but he has faced some of the higher level opponents in the IFC and while he has come up lacking, he is still a fighter whose striking is to be respected. Esch has not quite proven himself yet so has not lost to the pedigree of fighters Blowkarski has. However, Esch’s muay thai should prove up to the task of taking on Blowkarski and we can look forward to a match where Blowkarski tries to keep his distance then utilizes his jiu jitsu if his opponent does manage to draw him into the clinch.

Undercard

Fight 3 - Heavyweight Division

(3-3, 270 lbs) Sal Sizzaro VS (1-1, 250 lbs) Alex Snow

Now as we enter the undercards we have Sizzaro taking on Snow in another heavyweight bout. Sizzaro has proven himself one of the most capable fighters in the middle of the rankings, falling just short of fighters who are near the power rankings. Snow on the other hand has only fought twice, beating Bliss, but losing to Thompson. In a fight between two arguably above average fighters we get to find out who is the more deserving of being in the upper tier of the heavyweight division.

Sizzaro relies very heavily on his ground game with wonderful wrestling and a blue belt, he has managed three submission victories having not been submitted himself. On the other hand Snow is more of an all around fighter not being particularly strong in any one aspect, with his one victory coming by decision and his loss via knockout. Snow ultimately will need to keep his feet to win, however will he be able to do so? My prediction is no. Sizzaro will most likely be able to take down Snow and there earn himself a victory.

Fight 4 - Heavyweight Division

(6-6, 270 lbs) “The Hunk” Jack Dawson VS (4-3, 255 lbs) Vinnie Sixx

For our fourth bout of the evening the IFC 12 fight veteran Dawson takes on Sixx who has gone 2-2 in his tenure with the IFC. Dawson’s recent struggles started against fighters in the top 15 of the rankings, but his last defeat came at the hands of a fighter who has yet to put his name on that list. Sixx has also had troubles, losing two straight fights despite his elite boxing. When these two fighters meet one of them will get to snap a losing streak while the other’s woes continue.

In a fight between an exceptional muay thai fighter and an elite boxer we get to see two distinctive styles go head to head with the victory going to the one who can make use of his strengths better. Secondary to the main point of contention, their striking the interaction between Sixx’s jiu jitsu and Dawson’s may prove vital to whether or not Sixx can get out of the clinch if it is successfully initiated. However, the winner of this fight will most likely be Dawson as his only struggles in the octagon have come against other muay thai fighters.

Fight 5 - Lightweight Division

(8-5, 135 lbs) Chris “The Solution” White VS (6-4, 156 lbs) “Notorious” Cj McGregor

Now at the halfway point of the night White takes on McGregor in another bout with two fighters coming off of a loss in their last fight. White looked impressive in his debut with the IFC, beating Kirby via submission. However, he followed up the win with a loss to Pugberg in a 30-27 decision. His opponent McGregor is now 2-3 since joining the IFC with his most recent fight against Davis where he lost via TKO in the second round. White wants to show his debut was more akin to the results we can expect from him in the future should he choose to resign with the IFC.

Neither fighter is particularly impressive at wrestling, however McGregor holds a huge advantage standing while White in jiu jitsu. If McGregor keeps his feet he gets the win while if White gets McGregor to the ground he gets the victory. I expect the wrestling of White to prove ineffective at bringing McGregor to the ground, resulting in a victory for McGregor.

Fight 6 - Heavyweight Division

(7-3, 265 lbs) Anthony “The Animal” Griffith VS (3-2, 270 lbs) Rouhullah “The Refugee” Abbaspour

Finally in our last fight of the undercard Griffith makes his IFC debut against Abbaspour a relatively new fighter to the organization with two bouts under his belt. Griffith comes in highly regarded as a strong striker with 7 knockouts in 10 fights and only his losses resulting in him failing to knockout his adversary. Opposite the heavy handed Griffith we have the powerful Abbaspour who in 5 bouts has yet to participate in a fight longer than 2 minutes.

This fight looks to be for all intensive purposes, a KT bout as neither one of these fighters has any interest in going to the ground. It will be mano y mano as these two try to knock the opponent’s head off first with the winner being the man who can stay standing the longest. Abbaspour’s chin seems suspect and as such I give the edge to Griffith, however with the power in both of these fighters’ fists either one could end up flat on the mat with the other’s hands in the air.

Main Card

Fight 7 - Heavyweight Division

(4-2, 270 lbs) Naoise “Beginner To Winner” Durnin VS (4-1, 234 lbs) Blake “Fireball” Starks

Finally we make our way to the main card as Durnin meets Starks in yet another heavyweight bout. Durnin has gone 2-0 since joining the IFC winning with two straight first round knockouts over solid opponents continuing his wining streak and bringing it to four straight. Starks made his debut in the IFC not to long ago, managing to beat Sizzaro in a decision victory 26-30. Now we get to see how these two up and coming fighters do head to head as they open up the main card with an exciting fight.

Durnin should be the man with the advantage standing, however Starks wrestling is at a far higher level than that of his opponent. With each fighter having his own advantage this fight will hinge upon each one bringing the fight into the avenue he finds himself most able to traverse. I expect Starks to be able to punish Durnin for going overly aggressive in his striking and managing to take Durnin to the ground where he can win the fight.

Fight 8 - Lightweight Division

#9(8-2, 168 lbs) Anton Touchard VS (12-8, 163 lbs) Mike “The Hammer” Van Rijn

Now as one would expect we have a top 10 fighter, Touchard taking on Van Rijn a man hanging at the top by a thread. Touchard was on the rise, gradually climbing the top 15, making his way all the way up to the 6th spot before finally losing to Tiote in a very close decision where he entered the third round tied with his opponent, but fell short and came away with the loss in the end. His opponent Van Rijn had lost three straight fights to some of the top talent in the lightweight division, a losing streak he finally ended by defeating Kobra in the first round.

Touchard has little other than average wrestling and above average jiu jitsu. However, Van Rijn underestimates Touchard at his own risk, because these skills are what got him to his current place in the standings. Van Rijn should have a relatively large advantage coming in due to his advantage in wrestling.

Co-Main Event - Lightweight Division

#2(7-2, 135 lbs) Gosha Lopez VS #10(7-3, 164 lbs) “The Late Great” Feihck Tiote

Now to our co main event of the evening where the second ranked Gosha Lopez takes on the 10th ranked Feihck Tiote. Lopez has been considered one of the best in the lightweight division since he joined the IFC early in his career. However, this is the first time he has managed to climb this high in the rankings and he will want to make the most of this opportunity. In the fight before this one Touchard was discussed at length and now we get to witness the man who beat him fighting an even tougher opponent. Tiote’s loss against Sainty was disappointing at the least as he came in considered the favorite, but left with a loss from which he has only recently begun to recover from. Now he fights the second ranked fighter with the opportunity to climb even higher within the rankings so you can expect him to put forth everything he has to offer.

Both of the fighters in this event have the technique, both physically and skillfully to make it into the main event. Both men have sensational wrestling and a brown belt in jiu jitsu, but Lopez has the advantage in boxing while Tiote has the advantage in muay thai. I expect Lopez to be the one who ends up with his hand raised at the end, because of his advantage in boxing, but with such a small gap in the skills of each fighter it should be a fight that comes down to the wire.

Main Event - IFC Middleweight Division Championship Title Fight

Champion(8-0, 204 lbs) Ispa Murhaa VS #1(24-3, 220 lbs) Light “Son Of” Heavyweight

Finally we have made it to the main event of the evening. In one corner we have Ispa Murhaa the man who won the battle of undefeateds and took the title from Divac. From the other corner we have Light Heavyweight, the man Divac originally obtained the championship title from. Murhaa looked impressive and his fight with Divac went the distance in a 5 round title fight that had many ooh’ing and aah’ing, but ultimately ended with Murhaa’s hands raised. Heavyweight recently saw his stable mate win the heavyweight division belt and now finds himself with the opportunity to do the same in the middleweight division. He has earned his way to this point, beating many tough opponents, his fight with Brawler was particularly monumental as they were two fighters who had run near eachother in the rankings, but had never met in the octagon.

In a fight between the undefeated Murhaa and the long time favorite Heavyweight we can expect sparks to fly as Heavyweight has always won via knockout and although Murhaa has equal split between decision victories and knockouts he is not a fighter who is content running away from an opponent and getting a point victory. Murhaa is a very heavy favorite as he is a much more skilled fighter, but Heavyweight has made his way to this fight beating others such as Murhaa, despite many believing him to have little chance of victory.

IFC 53 Butabi vs McTavish

(June 2nd, 2018 - Venice Beach - Los Angeles

Prelims

Fight 1 - Middleweight Division

(4-15, 208 lbs) Lukasz “Cichy” Patryk VS (9-17, 210 lbs) Raheem “The Dream” Nazir

Patryk and Nazir are two of the most experienced fighters in the whole of the IFC organization. Unfortunately for them they are both also two of the fighters with the most losses. However, Patryk is coming off of a KO victory in his last fight while Nazir three straight although two came against the same opponent. With both fighters finally earning wins they will not want to slip back into a loss making for an interesting dynamic as each tries to win yet again.

Fight 2 - Lightweight Division

(1-6, 165 lbs) Long Thai VS (4-2, 156 lbs) “Tiny” Tim Greene

Next in the final fight of the prelims we have Thai and Greene going head to head. This fight is very similar to the previous as both fighters have struggled in the IFC, but managed to win their most recent fights. Its odd to see an elite muay thai fighter with a 1-6 record, however Thai has learned muay thai and almost nothing else. Greene on the other hand is the more traditional muay thai fighter, focusing on the clinch, but still learning a smattering of other things to go with it.

Undercard

Fight 3 - Middleweight Division

(3-1, 192 lbs) “Crazy Eyed” Dangerous Dan VS (5-5, 190 lbs) Niko Diaz

Now we make our way to the undercard where we have two very good fighters duking it out. On one side we have Dangerous Dan who has now fought twice with the IFC, winning both fights against good opponents. He has very good striking which ultimately earned him both of his victories and is something his opponent will have to be very careful against. Niko Diaz in the other corner has fought twice as well earning himself a 1-1 record so far, his loss to Mollen was hard fought, but he fell short.

Both of these fighters are some of the most skilled the middleweight division has to offer. The only reason they are in the undercard is, because they don’t have many fights under the belt and have not built up a fan base as of yet. Dan is inferior technique wise in every aspect, however his power could tilt the scales into a more balanced state. I’ll give the edge to Dan coming in, because of how impressive he looked in both of his previous fights, but Diaz has everything necessary to prove me wrong.

Fight 4 - Middleweight Division

(2-0-1, 215 lbs) Ture “Submarine” Torped VS (8-9, 210 lbs) Chong “The Star Fish” Tay

Our next two fighters are both fighters good enough to be in consideration for challenging those on the power rankings. Torped may have only fought once since joining the IFC, but he looked extremely impressive in his victory of Da Silva. Tay has actually proven he can beat those in the power rankings as he has beaten one currently in the rankings and has fought in back and forth fights against others. Each fighter will be looking for a win in this fight in the hope that a win here would yield them a chance at challenging those at the top.

These fighters are very similar in the delegation of their skills merely, Tay focused on muay thai whereas Torped on boxing. If this fight goes into the clinch Tay will have the advantage so it will ultimately come down to whether or not Torped can keep Tay at a distance. Judging from his fight against Da Silva it is reasonable to guess that Torped has the advantage coming in as he has fought strong muay thai fighters before and come out on top.

Fight 5 - Middleweight Division

(4-6, 210 lbs) Joe “The Alternate” Average VS (3-1, 222 lbs) Ophelius “Krampus” Ragnar

Our next fight, also taking place in the middleweight division pits Average against Ragnar in a fight between two fighters coming off of disappointing losses after finally climbing their way into a position to challenge those in the rankings. Average had won two straight on his way to the top, but Dan proved too much as Average loss via decision. Ragnar was looking great after joining the IFC, going 3-0 looking unbeatable with submission after submission. However, the heavy handed Pham was just too much for Ragnar and he fell in the first round after attempting 19 clinch attempts and failing at them all.

Both of these fighters will want to be sure their last loss was merely a stumble on their path to the top and a win here would do so. However, a loss would show that their stumble could have deeper repercussions as they would be back to where they started. For this fight I’m going to hedge my bets and say Average will win due to the fact that his superior wrestling may make up for his inferior jiu jitsu, enough that he can earn himself a nod.

Fight 6 - Heavyweight Division

(5-3, 270 lbs) Patrick Thompson VS (9-10-1, 245 lbs) Maddox “Hitman” Wood

In the final fight of the undercard we have the 20 year old Thompson taking on 29 year old veteran Wood. Thompson has been gaining a fan base for himself and has fought only within the IFC since making his debut. His climb through the rankings has been hard fought and no one thought him getting a shot against Bell for a spot in the rankings was well deserved. Unfortunately, for Thompson he found himself on the losing end of the fight and he is on the outside looking in at those sitting at the top. Wood has only fought 4 times in the IFC so far, but has managed a 2-2 record for himself against some of the top unranked fighters in the Heavyweight division.

Thompson’s wrestling is a serious concern and will be the major deciding point in the fight, because if Wood can take him to the ground its almost guaranteed Thompson will be defeated. To do so Wood will need to somehow weather the storm that is Thompson’s boxing game. It is most likely that the veteran will come away with the win despite Thompson’s wrestling, but you can’t count the youth out with striking as potent as his.

Main Card

Fight 7 - Middleweight Division

#13(10-11, 178 lbs) Steven “The Steamroller” Kennedy VS (7-5-1, 220 lbs) Terje “Nightmare” Warholm

Now for our first bout with a ranked fighter involved as Kennedy tries to keep his position in the power rankings against the up and comer Warholm. Kennedy is a fighter who has been around forever in the IFC and even held the openweight belt at one point (before losing it to Mew Choo). Lately he has been struggling to find wins against all the new competition and only recently managed to win after a 4 fight losing streak. The fact he is still in the power rankings after losing so many fights should show to anyone just how highly regarded this fighter is. On the other side against Kennedy we have Terje Warholm who has been around for a while, but didn’t really make a name for himself until recently, defeating Dmitrievich and Yonic with a knockout in each fight.

Both of these fighters have a high level of skill and we can expect a very close fight with each fighter trying to progress his career. Kennedy’s advantage in jiu jitsu should be balanced out by Warholm’s better muay thai and very slightly better wrestling. This fact leads me to believe that Warholm has the edge coming in as Kennedy will have a tough time taking down Warholm and while they have similar ksill in boxing, Warholm’s skill in the clinch should make him the better striker.

Fight 8 - Middleweight Division

(10-6, 174 lbs) Eusebio “Loves Gardening” Zapato VS #14(10-9, 180 lbs) Manuel Lora

Now we find ourself with yet another ranker making an appearance as the 14th ranked Manuel Lora takes on Eusebio Zapato who is looking for his first IFC victory. Zapato entered the IFC as one of the most hyped fighters to ever join the organization. However, since joining he has fought the second ranked Choo and the 6th ranked Ubereem losing both fights. Now despite the expectations placed on him coming in, he finds himself fighting those at the bottom of the top 15, hoping to finally find where exactly in the rankings he belongs for his new organization. Lora finds himself in a somewhat similar situation, as he came to the organization with a large amount of hype and while he started off IFC career with a win, he has since lost three straight fights and is near to dropping out of the power rankings. A win against Zapato would not improve his place in the rankings, but is necessary if he wants to stay in the rankings.

Each of these veterans has an advantage over the other, with Zapato having much better muay thai, while Lora has the wrestling advantage. Its obvious that Zapato will earn a victory if he can keep his feet, but Lora will come in knowing this and do everything in his power to take Zapato down. Unfortunately for Zapato he will probably succeed and Zapato will have a tough time defending himself once brought down making Lora the favorite coming into the fight.

Co-Main Event - Heavyweight Division

#11(9-11, 300 lbs) Greg “The Gronk” Bell VS (5-5, 256 lbs) Albert Van Rooy

Now to our co main event of the evening where the 11th ranked Bell takes on Van Rooy, a fighter keen to make his way into the top 15. Bell has been considered one of the top fighters for a majority of his career with the organization. He has consistently fought those in the power rankings and while he has come off with more losses he wins enough to keep himself relevant. Now we will see if he has what it takes to keep himself relevant against the tide of younger fighters such as Van Rooy. Van Rooy has won just about every fight he has taken against opponents outside of the rankings. However, he has yet to show that he can beat those at the top. His victory over Dawson showed that this fighter is one of the best fighters the heavyweight division has to offer and he will be in the rankings almost guaranteed at some point in time.

Bell will have to take Van rooy down to have any chance of earning a victory in this fight, but as a fighter who has made a career on his ground game this is nothing he isn’t used to. If Van Rooy can keep his feet his much superior striking will make short work of Bell and this seems most likely to happen as their wrestling skill is rather similar to eachother.

Main Event - Heavyweight Division

#8(9-4, 290 lbs) “Big” Steve Butabi VS #12(8-4, 292 lbs) Hamish “The Pig” McTavish

Finally we have made it to our main event of the evening. Butabi versus McTavish as one fighter tries to halt his negative spiral while the other tries to continue to build momentum off of his previous victory. Butabi has been a strong fighter in the IFC for almost his entire career, even managing to earn himself a title fight at one point. It is obvious, however that he has recently hit a wall as he has lost 3 of his last 4 fights and now finds himself on a downward spiral towards being unseated within the rankings. McTavish was similarly stricken after losing two straight fights against strong opponents, but his most recent victory over Bandichoo showed that McTavish belongs in the rankings at the very least.

Once again we rehash the similar theme of the fight as one fighter would crush his opponent standing while the other would like nothing more than to take his opponent down where he can manhandle him at will. Despite McTavish’s clear wrestling advantage I believe this fight will end up falling in Butabi’s favor due to his much superior ability in the clinch.

IFC MW 30 Gellar vs Sainty

(June 6th, 2018 - King Theatre - Los Angeles)

Prelims

Fight 1 - Lightweight Division

(5-13, 145 lbs) Jason Poller VS (3-7, 156 lbs) “The Clobberer” Timothy Rex

We open up our night with Poller versus Rex in a fight between two struggling fighters who are both trying to snap losing streaks. Poller has struggled from being a one trick pony with only jiu jitsu to his name and almost no other skills. Rex has a little wider array of skills, but has struggled from a lack luster ground game. This should be a fun fight to watch as Rex needs to abuse the clinch, but doing so could allow Poller’s jiu jitsu to take effect.

Fight 2 - Lightweight Division

(2-0, 140 lbs) Papa John VS (6-7, 142 lbs) Jonathan “Money Shot” Davis

For our last fight of the prelims Papa John fights for the second time in the IFC, taking on Davis the 10 fight IFC veteran. John looked strong in his debut within the organization against Rex, using his muay thai to get a quick knockout while taking almost zero damage in the process. Davis went on a long 6 fight losing streak flipping his record until finally winning his two most recent fights to find himself here tonight. Both of these fighters are men who want to keep the fight standing and this fight will rely very heavily on whether it takes place in the clinch or not.

Undercard

Fight 3 - Middleweight Division

(11-8-1, 185 lbs) Boss Yonic VS (9-7, 175 lbs) Bea “Rick” Mason

Now we open up our undercard with Yonic versus Mason in a fight between two fighters trying to grasp at a chance for the top 15 in the middleweight division. Yonic has been on a roller coaster, rising in the rankings to the point where he is in consideration for being a ranker, but then loses and drops back down, as evidenced by his last fight where his opponent just made the rankings after defeating Yonic. Mason has had similar results with 2 of his last 3 losses coming against those in top 15, but not managing to find himself a victory over the fighters in the rankings. Adding a little extra oomph to this fight is the fact that these fighters are right on the edge of being an everyday name, meaning one fighter may find himself in position to challenge for the rankings once again, while the other will drop back down to the middle of the pack.

Yonic is almost completely reliant on his wrestling, but has troubles when he can’t take his opponent down. Mason is one of the opponents who will almost assuredly be taken down by Yonic, however Masin is comfortable on his back and his brown belt could in the end net him a submission victory despite Yonic’s best efforts.

Fight 4 - Lightweight Division

(8-7, 154 lbs) Wolfgang Lee Roth VS (9-8-1, 150 lbs) Andy Bogard

Roth versus Bogard features two of the top fighters in the lightweight division, with one of them having been in the top 15 while the other just outside of those rankings. Roth as the fighter who has been on the outside looking in has a lot to prove, especially after losing two straight fights, and beating Bogard a fighter formerly on the rankings would go far in showing that he deserves to be considered an upper tier fighter. Bogard has been outside of the rankings basically since I took over the organization and would love to make his way back up there. His victory against Xavier showed that his place as an upper tier fighter is well earned.

Roth will have a tough time in this fight as Bogard appears to hold the advantage in all aspects other than jiu jitsu. Making it a very difficult path for Roth to find a win outside of superior gameplanning on the ground.

Fight 5 - Heavyweight Division

(7-3, 271 lbs) Tan Han Tuong VS (5-2, 255 lbs) Urban “Brutus” Go Bucks

Tuong versus Go Bucks could be our first fight of the evening that may be felt within the rankings with each fighter right on the cusp of being considered with the everyday names of the division. Tuong has been looking better and better with each event he takes part in, unfortunately he has slipped up when it came down to winning his way into the rankings. His most recent fight against Nekele was a huge chance for the young man from Vietnam, but one loss does not drop him from consideration and a win against Bucks could very well get him a position in the rankings. Bucks has looked impressive throughout his career, culminating in a victory over Dawson he wants to try and continue the rise until eventually getting to the point no one can talk about the IFC heavyweight division without including his name in those talks.

Standing Go Bucks has a small advantage, while on the ground Tuong has a small advantage. This should make for a very close fight with no one the wiser as to who will eventually come out on top.

Fight 6 - Middleweight Division

(8-7, 179 lbs) Terry Bogard VS (6-1,190 lbs) “The Bully” Braven Harris

Bogard versus Harris will be a fun match as the recently recovered Bogard takes on the red hot Harris. Bogard was decently high within the power rankings not all that long ago, unfortunately for him he ran into the future champion Murhaa and hasn’t been the same since, losing 2 of his next three fights. It wasn’t until his most recent fight that he snapped his 3 fight losing streak by defeating Sexyama with an impressive head kick earning himself knockout of the night. On the other side we have Braven Harris who has not fought since January after coming under new management. Since joining the IFC he has yet to be defeated and only his long hiatus has kept him outside of the rankings. This should be a very contentious fight as Harris makes his successful return and Bogard tries to avoid slipping back into a losing habit.

In terms of technique these two fighters could not be more closely matched meaning that this fight will come down to the intangibles as well as gameplanning. This is a very difficult fight to predict due to the fact Harris is under new management, but given his track record we have to give him the nod going in.

Main Card

Fight 7 - Middleweight Division

(9-7, 182 lbs) Frank “The Machine” Tyson VS (6-7, 190 lbs) Yoshihiro Sexyama

Now in our first fight of the main card the highly hopeful Frank Tyson makes his IFC debut against long time fighter Yoshihiro Sexyama. Tyson had lost two straight in his previous organization after making a big name for himself. Now he has the chance to reverse his negative momentum in a new setting and this fight would prove a great deal about where this fighter lies within the IFC middleweight division hierarchy. Sexyama is the man standing in Tyson’s way as he tries to recover from his most recent fight that resulted in a very quick knockout and him out cold on the mat.He has been a staple in the IFC almost managing to earn his way into the rankings and will not want to let Tyson take his place at the top of the unranked fighters without a fight.

Tyson appears to hold the advantage in every aspect of his game, but Sexyama didn’t get to this point in his career without being able to overcome technique disadvantages. It definitely remains that Tyson should have the advantage coming in, but don’t count Sexyama out as you never know what will happen once the fighters enter the octagon.

Fight 8 - Lightweight Division

(15-7, 139 lbs) Dominique “Alligator” Bell VS (12-9, 156 lbs) Luiz Correia Azevedo

Similarly to the fight before this one we have one fighter, Bell, making his debut in the IFC versus who has been well established within the organization, Azevedo. This should prove to be a very interesting fight to see as both fighters were involved in season 7 of the island Bell ended as a semi- finalist whereas Azevedo ended as the runner up, but they were in different weight classes. Bell has also fought a fighter that anyone who pays attention to the IFC lightweight division should recognize as he has fought Mister Island twice in his career with a 1-1 record, where his victory was a title defense. Azevedo would love to halt his 0-4 run in the IFC and Bell doesn’t look quite as impressive as the other fighters he has taken on since joining.

This fight is a bout that will contain two fighters competing in the same exact areas as each fighter has decent wrestling and a brown belt to their name. It is hard to guess at who will be the winner, but considering Bell’s record against Island I’d give him the edge despite the fact that his fights against Island took place a long while back.

Co-Main Event - Middleweight Fight

#6(15-8, 215 lbs) Jon “Enjoy Coke” Ubereem VS #7(4-0, 207 lbs) Dennis Fischer

Finally entering the co main event of the evening we have our first fighters within the rankings fighting. On one side we have the 6th ranked Ubereem, a man who has clawed his way up in the rankings with Kisqali and Choo being his only losses since joining the organization. In the other corner we have Fischer the man who has not yet lost in his career managing to beat former champion Roman Divac and former contender Don Joe in his two fights so far in the IFC. Both of these fighters are trying to make their way into the ranks of those at the very top and possibly try for their shot at a title. Fischer has already proven he has what it takes to beat a champion and while Ubereem fell short against Choo the ex champion, he also showed he has what it takes to fight at the highest level of the middleweight division.

Ubereem has his work cut out for him in this one as Fischer has looked phenomenal in his fights so far, but Ubereem is no pushover as he showed in his fight against the now 15th ranked Zapata. Fischer is the clear favorite going in, but we can look forward to a good fight as each fighter tries to further his career.

Main Event - Lightweight Division

#1(22-6, 158 lbs) Uri “The Bender” Gellar VS #9(11-9, 150 lbs) Daniel “The Unsanitary” Sainty

Finally for our main event of the evening the long time #1 fighter Gellar takes on the ninth ranked Sainty a man who himself was on the cusp of a title fight. Gellar has been the #1 fighter pretty much since joining the IFC, only falling out of that rank after losing to the longtime champion Chugman. Now with a new champion at the top he finds himself in the #1 contender position wanting a shot at the new champ in the division. Sainty on the other hand has never found his way to that #1 spot. Their last fight was a very good fight that finally ended in the 3rd round when Gellar knocked out Sainty with an impressive head kick.

This fight holds special meaning as the winner may just find himself fighting in the next title fight. The obvious favorite would be Gellar considering the fact he won their first fight, but Sainty will be striving to get his revenge.

IFC 54 Heavyweight vs Rasputin

(June 9th, 2018 - King Theatre - Los Angeles)

Prelims

Fight 1 - Middleweight Division

(2-1, 190 lbs) Crusadius “Akhillius” Infidellus VS (2-1, 188 lbs) Virgulino Ferreira Da Silva “Lampiao”

For our first fight of the evening we have two fighters coming off of the first losses of their respective careers as Infidellus takes on Da Silva. Infidellus has showed that his striking is deadly in each of his fights and his climb into the power rankings looked inevitable, however Kirby showed him that he was only human with a devastating head kick. Lining up across from the striker we have another striker who has even fought in a kt event. Da Silva had his most recent fight in the bag, winning both of the first two rounds in dominating fashion, but unfortunately in the third round his opponent caught him with a devastating uppercut and that was all she wrote for the promising young fighter. This fight should an insane showcase of striker versus striker as both men try to recover from their demoralizing losses in their last fights.

Fight 2 - Lightweight Division

(3-1, 155 lbs) Nando Vasquez VS (1-1, 145 lbs) Jack McDonald

Vasquez versus McDonald is not a fight one expects to ever see happen in the prelims. Both of these fighters are amazingly skilled in all aspects. Vasquez has looked extremely powerful standing despite having a TWGC belt to his name. He has had 1st round finishes in every fight in the mma scene with all ending in knockout including his loss in his last fight against Aleksy. His opponent is equally impressive with a black belt in jiu jitsu, sensational wrestling as well as being no slouch on his feet either. While his debut in the IFC against ended with him on the losing side of a decision, great things can still be expected of this 22 year old.

Undercard

Fight 3 - Lightweight Division

(7-3, 152 lbs) Sirimongkol Niyotrong VS (6-13, 160 lbs) Dave “Tightass” Brooksbank

Now in our first bout of the undercard Niyotrong meets the struggling Brooksbank in the octagon. Niyotrong has spent his entire fighting career in the IFC and has been relatively successful within the organization. He started off rough, but followed up his losing streak with a winning streak which has recently turned into a win one lose one trend as is so often the case in fighters right on the cusp of the top 15. Brooksbank looked decent in the early years of his career, but has not won a fight since November, losing 8 straight fights that although were against good opponents, do not bode well for this fighter’s future.

This fight will be almost completely dependent on whether or not Niyotrong can keep his feet in the clinch against Brooksbank’s jiu jitsu. Brooksbank’s brown belt may prove too much for Niyotrong, but if he can keep his feet in the clinch he should get the better of the standing game. Unfortunately due to Brooksbank’s better boxing and jiu jitsu I think he will come away with the win after pulling guard as Niyotrong can’t stay at a distance, but closing may just prove his undoing as well.

Fight 4 - Middleweight Division

(4-3, 192 lbs) Hanny “The Fist” Sledgehammer VS (8-9, 176 lbs) Dex “The Assassin” Arial

Sledgehammer against Arial should be an amazing fight between two fighters clawing at the ankles of those in the rankings. Sledgehammer beat Lora who just fell out of the top 15 in his last fight and many fans have been clamoring over the fact he didn’t take Lora’s spot in the rankings. A win here against Arial could go even further in announcing to the world that Sledgehammer deserves a spot in the top 15. Arial is coming off of two straight losses that dashed his hopes of making a grab at the rankings, but he is still a very good fighter and at 23 he has much to look forward to in his career. A win against a surging fighter like Sledgehammer could go far in turning his trajectory back around.

Sledgehammer has the slight advantage standing, but with Arial’s wrestling its almost a guarantee this fight will end up on the ground if that’s where Arial choosing to take the fight. Given the fact they have equivalent jiu jitsu Arial should be the man with the advantage given the fact he will be the one on top in control.

Fight 5 - Heavyweight Division

(5-4, 286 lbs) Neville Southall VS (9-11, 264 lbs) Ricky “Big Tex” Hughes

In our fifth fight of the evening we get the rematch between Southall and Hughes as Hughes looks for revenge after a very punishing defeat at the “hand” of Southall’s kicks as he landed numerous leg kicks and ultimately winning with an impressive head kick knockout that would normally have been the knockout of the night. Southall followed up his victory over Hughes with a loss to Snapp in a disappointing first round knockout to a superman punch. Hughes as well as Southall lost in his following fight, but Hughes has had a much rougher run as of late, finding himself on a 5 fight losing streak, a situation no 29 year old fighter wants to find himself in.

Given the result of the first fight Southall is the favorite coming in, but Hughes should be desperate at this point in his career and backing someone into a corner is the best way to see what he truly has lying under the surface.

Fight 6 - Heavyweight Division

(7-4, 298 lbs) Bob “The Feast” Snapp VS (6-2, 270 lbs) Francisco “The Count” Babyara

Interestingly enough, following the fifth fight of the evening we have the two fighters who defeated those in the previous fight duking it out as Snapp takes on Babyara. Snapp has gone 1-1 since joining the IFC, but his only loss came against the currently 3rd ranked fighter Turkey. When Snapp fights you know exactly what your going to get; a knockout with all 11 of his fights ending in knockout and only 1 of them (his fight against Turkey) going passed the first round. Trying to weather the storm that is Snapp we have Babyara who has now gone 5-0 since joining the IFC who also has had all eight of his fights end in a knockout.

In a fight where the fighters have a combined 19 fights and all of them ending via knockout we can expect a highly explosive match where you don’t want to blink, because you just might miss the ending of the fight. Despite Babyara’s undefeated run in the IFC I have to give the edge to Snapp in this one considering the fact he has gone up against stiffer competition and is the more experienced fighter.

Main Card

Fight 7 - Heavyweight Division

#10(11-10, 281 lbs) “Red Ribbon Armys” Android Seventeen VS #2(12-4, 270 lbs) Naiki “The Drunken Finnish Demon” Nekele

We start off our main card with a doozy of a fight with our 10th ranked fighter Seventeen taking on the second ranked Nekele. This will be Seventeen’s last fight in the IFC before taking a short hiatus to challenge himself in another organization for a short stint. If you don’t know who Seventeen is then you just plain haven’t been watching the main cards for the past 6 months, because this fighter has been in the upper echelons of the heavyweight division for a while now. His biggest victory came over Bell, but he has also fought both of the men in our title fight this evening. Coming up against him we have the man who could just be the next challenger for the belt after this evening if he can pull of the victory. Nekele has now won 5 straight fights almost all of which came against upper tier fighters if not top 15 fighters. A win here almost assuredly gives him the #1 challenger spot and should provide extra motivation to the man.

In a fight where one man wants to make sure and leave a lasting impression before his short departure takes on a man fishing for a title spot we can expect a very contentious match. Seventeen has made it a habit of winning when i pick him to lose and losing when I pick him to win, and this will be the first fight in a while where I’m picking him to lose. Nekele will have to be on his A game to break the curse that Seventeen has cast on my picks when he is involved.

Fight 8 - Middleweight Division

#4(10-3, 220 lbs) Ribociclib “CDK4/6” Kisqali VS #11(10-2, 198 lbs) Roman “The Pain Train” Divac

Our eighth fight of the evening looks poised to be yet another amazing fight as the former champion fallen on hard times Divac takes on the impressive youngster fresh off a loss Kisqali. Kisqali’s loss against Choo was definitely disappointing for the talented Kisqali, but it did little to lower the opinion the public had for the fighter. Still retaining the 4th ranking he has beaten both Wilder and Ubereem, proving that he belongs in the top 5 by almost anyone’s measure. Facing him will be Divac who still holds his belt from Sidney FC and was riding high with the IFC middleweight division belt as well. Unfortunately his loss to Murhaa in a rare 5 round decision was a clear loss for him. He then followed up this loss with yet another loss to Fischer in a first round knockout that had many reeling. A loss here could lead to a shocking result of Divac reaching either the bottom of the rankings or dropping out altogether, despite being a champion recently.

This fight will be a fun one to watch as Kisqali is the superior boxer and jiu jitsu artist while Divac is the better fighter in the clinch and a better wrestler as well. With each of them having an advantage in two aspects of the game its anyone’s guess as to who will walk away with the win. However, Kisqali’s advantage in jiu jitsu has direct effects on both of the skills Divac has the advantage in and as such I have to give him the advantage going in.

Co-Main Event - Lightweight Division

(19-5, 165 lbs) Rokuya “Monkeymagic” Date VS #10(11-9, 152 lbs) Evgeni Lomachenko

In our co-main event of the evening the highly hyped fighter from the KOFC makes his IFC debut against the 10th ranked Lomachenko. Date came off the island as the season 7 winner of the 155lb division and continued to win even after joining the KOFC. He is now on an 11 even fight win streak and 3 of the fighters he defeated during this streak are currently in the IFC. He looks to start off his IFC career with a bang by defeating a current ranker and possibly putting his own name in the top 15. However, Lomachenko will be doing everything within his power to avoid this as he has fought tooth and nail to get to his current position in the rankings. In his last 6 fights the only fighters he has lost to are currently top 5 in the division so his position in the 10th spot is no accident.

Date has made his career through solid striking, avoiding takedowns and getting himself either a knockout victory or a decision victory. However, all 5 of his losses came via submission meaning this may be a hole in his game that can be exploited. Lomachenko will be working hard to exploit this weakness and show that the IFC lightweight division is not a place where someone with weak jiu jitsu can climb. Unfortunately to do this Lomachenko will have to take Date down, something I doubt he will be up to considering Date’s superior wrestling. This fact should give Date the advantage coming in.

Main Event - IFC Heavyweight Division Championship Title Fight

Champion(22-3, 280 lbs) Super “Dominator” Heavyweight VS #1(19-3, 241 lbs) Grigori “The Monk” Rasputin

Finally for our main event of the evening we have the undisputed IFC heavyweight champion Super Heavyweight taking on the 1st ranked Grigori Rasputin. Heavyweight is currently the 2nd ranked super heavyweight fighter in the world, and 54th ranked p4p fighter. He joined the IFC after a very successful run on the island, winning the championship and joining the organization after the season ended. He started off with a victory, but then followed that victory up with a loss in his title fight against Tower. Many thought that was the beginning of a downward spiral for the 29 year old fighter, but he proved everyone wrong as he won four straight fights to earn his way back to a rematch against Tower. This time he was up to the task and found himself on the winning end of the fight. Now for the first time he enters the octagon as the champion (of this organization) and we will get to see if his experience as a champion on the island translates to the main land as he tries his first title defense.

Fighting Heavyweight we have Grigori Rasputin who has shocked many with his climb to the #1 contender spot. When he came to the IFC following the end of the island season 7 no one had high expectations for the fighter who lost in the 4th round and this assumption seemed to prove correct as he lost his debut fight to Bell. However, this ended up being his only loss in the organization as he managed to win three straight fights over top rankers until finally getting to his current position as the #1 challenger. He has been the underdog in almost every single one of his fights, but this fact has seemed not to phase him as he wins fight after fight.

Just as in his previous fights, Rasputin is the clear underdog coming in as someone who lost in the 4th round on the island taking on the man who won the same division. Rasputin’s advantage in muay thai is the clear win condition for the fighter and if he can close on Heavyweight we could find ourself crowning a new heavyweight champion for the second month in a row.

Firstly I'm still in shock that Super Heavyweight beat Iain Tower. Definitely a kick in the balls for those that cry about their 25 year old creations having to fight projects later on in their careers and those that cry about being at a disadvantage in general. Just goes to show what results good knowledge of the game can bring.

Secondly, I think it's awesome that another Island fighter in Gregori Rasputin has made it to the top and has earned a title shot. The heavyweight division is very open right now and I think that makes it all the more interesting.

**Rankings are determined by hype/pop, p4p rank, win/loss record and a few company internal criteria. Rankings will typically be updated at the end of each week**

We had a large influx of new fighters recently so expect the rankings to be shaken up soon. However, I will not be putting any fighter who hasn’t yet fought in the IFC on the power rankings.

IFC MW 31 Choo VS Brawler

(June 13th, 2018 - King Theatre - Los Angeles

Prelims

Fight 1 - Middleweight Division

(2-6, 184 lbs) Hennig Muller VS (2-6, 210 lbs) “Coldblood” Ed Killer

Muller and Killer look to start out our night with a bang, entering the bout with the same record. Muller has made his career fighting from the clinch and you can expect him to do so in this fight once again. Killer’s career has been spent trying to use his boxing to climb the rankings, but has been mostly unsuccessful due to a lack of any wrestling, and ok ay jiu jitsu. This fight will largely rely on how well Muller can do in the clinch versus Killer’s boxing.

Fight 2 - Middleweight Division

(2-1, 190 lbs) Hallis “The Captain” Mollen VS (3-2, 185 lbs) Wrecking Ball

In our second fight of the prelims Mollen meets Ball as two of the strongest fighters below the middle of the current middleweight division rankings. Mollen’s win over Diaz proved that he is a top talent in the division and his current ranking is not indicative of his actual skill. Ball has lost to any of the upper tier fighters he has come against, losing to both Average and Zaad. Both of these fighters have similar technique, but Mollen has superior boxing and a superior track record, specifically his victory over Diaz.

Undercard

Fight 3 - Middleweight Division

(4-7, 210 lbs) Joe “The Alternate” Average VS (7-8, 210 lbs) Dirk “13in” Diggler

Starting off our undercard right we have Average going up against IFC newcomer Diggler in what should prove to be a very close fight. Average has lost two straight fights, both against up and comers in the middleweight division. Diggler on the other hand is making his IFC debut after having a decent run in 4 different organizations amassing a 7-8 record, mainly through the use of remarkable wrestling and a brown belt in jiu jitsu.

Average should have the advantage standing, coming in with superior boxing and equivalent muay thai. However, on the ground both of these fighters are matched very evenly with no one being able to guess as to who would come out on top if they fought on the ground. Average should be the advantaged fighter coming in, but if this fight goes to the ground its nigh on impossible to say who will come away with the win so don’t think Diggler is guaranteed to lose.

Fight 4 - Middleweight Division

(8-10, 205 lbs) “Corpse Making Cowboy” Don Joe VS (4-3, 220 lbs) General Snus

Our fourth fight also in the middleweight division pits The veteran Joe against the 20 year old Snus. Joe has had an extremely poor run of late as he is now on an 8 fight losing streak resulting in him being dropped by his manager for a second time. This will be his second fight under the new management and will be another chance for the veteran to try and halt his tumble in the rankings. Snus made his IFC debut in his last fight, managing to beat one of the IFC’s more impressive wrestlers in Dalton with a third round knock out.

Snus has a chance to beat one of the oldest fighters in the IFC and really launch his career within the organization even further. Joe looks to be the superior boxer, but Snus has the advantage in both jiu jitsu and wrestling. It will be interesting seeing whether or not Snus continues to use stand up to win his fights or switches to a wrestling heavy strategy against Joe.

Fight 5 - Lightweight Division

(11-14, 162 lbs) Joao Vitor Xavier VS (5-6, 142 lbs) “I Weigh” One Fortytwo

In our first non middleweight fight of the evening, the struggling Xavier takes on Fortytwo. Xavier has lost 4 of his last 5 fights, and at 29 many are wondering how much longer before he retires. However, he is still a tough opponent to face and Fortytwo will have to be careful. Fortytwo has actually won two straight fights now, beating Aukhadov and Head with a knockout in each fight. Fortytwo has definitely benefited from the divisional split, going 3-1 since joining the lightweight division and rising from the bottom of the rankings to the middle of the pack now.

This fight will be a showcase of the two prevalent striking styles in the mma world with Xavier and his boxing going up against Fortytwo’s muay thai in a no holds barred fight. Each fighter wants a win desperately as a loss means slipping into the bottom half of the rankings. Fortytwo should hold the advantage coming in with Xavier struggling as of late as well as the fact he has struggled against muay thai fighters in the past.

Fight 6 - Lightweight Division

(15-8, 162 lbs) Lazy Bastard VS (1-2, 157 lbs) Randall “Black” Jackson

In our final fight of the undercard Bastard versus Jackson will end it with a fight I have been looking forward to. Bastard was struggling at the end of his run in the KOFC, but he is a very skilled fighter and his record shows it. This will be his debut fight in the IFC and he hopes to be able to start anew and turn around his struggles in a big way, defeating another promising young fighter. Jackson won his debut fight against fellow newcomer Mcdonald in a fight that each fighter was trying to prove himself in his new organization. Now Jackson gets to fight another man making his debut with the chance of further cementing his name as one of the best new fighters to the IFC.

Both of these men have a lot to prove in this fight as Bastard wants to end his previous slump and Jackson wants to prove that he deserves a chance against the high tier talent in the highly competitive IFC lightweight division. This fight will largely hinge upon whether or not Jackson can take this fight to the ground against Bastard’s superb wrestling skills. If he can do so he should be the clear favorite and given the fact he has superior wrestling I think he holds the edge coming in.

Main Card

Fight 7 - Heavyweight Division

#13(8-9, 240 lbs) Taz “Crash” Bandichoo VS (11-6, 233 lbs) Randall “Natural” Couture

Starting off both our main card and ranked fighters the 13th ranked Bandichoo takes on unranked, but equally impressive Couture. While Bandichoo finds himself in the top 15, he has struggled against other fighters within those rankings and has 0 wins against other fighters within the rankings. Due to this fact his placement in the rankings is very tenuous and he is at risk of dropping out of the top 15 at any moment. Trying to unseat him is Couture who has done very well for himself against fighters outside of the rankings, but similar to his opponent, he has yet to defeat someone with those rankings either. This match will take place with the winner finding his way onto the rankings and the loser finding himself on the outside looking in.

Bandichoo has struggled due to his lack of a ground game, with very subpar wrestling and just as bad jiu jitsu. This fact has resulted in him doing well against other strikers, but not managing to find victories against anyone with good wrestling. While Couture has much better wrestling than his opponent, he has shown that his wrestling is more a skill he produced in order to prevent other wrestlers from abusing him, as opposed to a skill he himself uses to dominate. As such this fight will most likely be a striking showcase, within which Bandichoo has shined so far and should continue to considering his advantage in both boxing and muay thai.

Fight 8 - Heavyweight Division

#9(10-4, 275 lbs) Vladimir “The Horizontal” Impaler VS (5-6, 300 lbs) “The Phenomenal” Orgasmic Bliss

Our eighth fight of the evening plays host to our first top 10 fighter of the night as ninth ranked Impaler takes on Bliss. Impaler was one victory away from a title fight, but found himself losing to Rasputin in a fight he was the clear favorite via decision. Since then he lost to Tchusuk then beating Lemieux resulting in a ninth seed where before he was all the way in the second position in the rankings. Bliss has never found himself in the rankings, but he has been slowly, but surely rising up the ladder, winning 1 then losing 1, but gradually stepping up in competition with each fight. His most recent win over Couture was especially impressive as both fighters are two of the best not within the top 15, a win here would allow Bliss to break his string of winning then losing as well as putting him in the top 15.

Impaler is the heavy favorite coming into this fight having superior wrestling and much better striking. If Bliss wants a victory he will be forced to get this fight to the ground against a superior wrestler where he can abuse his opponent’s inferior jiu jitsu. While it seems like a long shot, it is no more of a long shot than Rasputin’s chacnes of defeating Impaler so do not count him out.

Co-Main Event - Lightweight Division

#10(12-7, 145 lbs) Mister Island VS #11(8-4, 165 lbs) Tzwrtzos Peidis

In our Co-Main Event of the evening we have a rematch from February as the 10th ranked Island tries to prevent 11th ranked Peidis from getting revenge for his earlier defeat at Island’s hands. In their first fight Peidis looked strong, dominating Island with his striking, however Island kept trying for takedown attempts and finally succeeded on his 7th attempt, eventually using his black belt to get the easy submission win. Since then Island went straight to the top earning a title fight in 2 more fights, but slipped up, lost both the title fight and then another fight, while Peidis struggled with 2 more straight losses until coming into this fight with 2 straight victories.

As seen in their first fight This fight will completely depend on whether or not Peidis can stuff Island’s takedown attempts. Of course Island is the favorite coming in considering the result of their first fight, but Peidis showed that, standing he has the skills to control the fight, so if he can keep his feet he should be able to earn himself a huge victory.

Main Event - Middleweight Division

#1(14-2, 191 lbs) Mew Choo VS #3(13-5, 190 lbs) Brooklyn Brawler

Finally in our main event of the evening the legend himself 1st ranked hall of famer Mew Choo takes on the 3rd ranked and possible future hall of famer Brooklyn Brawler. Choo is a hall of famer for obvious reasons as a man with 6 title defenses as the champion of an open weight division fighting men of all shapes and sizes and still managing to win against almost all of them. To date he has only lost to Wilder and recent contender Light Heavyweight. He has been at the top of the rankings playing gatekeeper since the divisional split, but has not yet managed to find his way into another title fight as of yet. However, a victory here almost assures he will be the next challenger.

Taking on the legend is another legend in Brawler. Brawler is probably the strongest fighter in the IFC to never have a belt to his name. He has lost title fights against Choo and Divac, but has not managed a victory in a title fight as of yet. A win here would give him another crack at the belt, but standing in his way is a man who has already defeated him previously and should be a very difficult task for Brawler to take on once again.

The last time these two fighters met Choo came in with an undefeated 10-0 record while Brawler was an almost as impressive 8-2. Contrary to expectations, however the fight lasted only 1:14 before Choo managed to drop guard after Brawler clinched him and 3 submission attempts later Choo locked in the guillotine from the bottom resulting in Brawler tapping. Coming into the rematch the fighters are very similar stylistically to where they were at in the first fight and we can expect a similar match up, but with each fighter learning and advancing their skills and physical training, this fight could go vastly different from the original fight.

IFC 55 Mumu vs Thomas

(June 16th, 2018 - King Theatre - Los Angeles)

Prelims

Fight 1 - Middleweight Division

(0-0, 214 lbs) Jab Brown VS (4-9, 185 lbs) Lord “God of Destruction” Beerus

Our first fight of the evening is the first fight of a young man’s career as Brown tries to make his first appearance in the octagon a good one as he takes on the struggling Beerus. Little is known about the 20 year old Swedish fighter, but he looks to be a good wrestler as well as jiu jitsu artist and as such we should probably expect him to rely on this to get the victory. Beerus on the other side of the octagon only has jiu jitsu to his name and due to this has had very poor results since joining the IFC.

Fight 2 - Lightweight Division

(9-10, 153 lbs) Crack Head “Roks” VS (5-14, 145 lbs) Jason Poller

Following up our first night of the evening is Roks versus Poller where two struggling fighters will try to maintain what little hype they have. Roks’ early career started out pretty well, but after 3 straight wins in the IFC he only managed to win 1 of his next 7 fights resulting in the 9-10 record he has now. Opposite him, we have Poller who joined the IFC on a slump and has still not yet found his way out of the slump, with 7 straight losses. The difference maker in this fight may end up being the fact that Head has managed to keep his morale up while Poller’s morale has tanked.

Undercard

Fight 3 - Middleweight Division

#11(7-7, 185 lbs) Sascha Koniezko VS (9-10, 210 lbs) Chara Zaad

You know its going to be a great night when two fighters of this caliber meet in the opening fight of the undercard. Koniezko has gradually climbed his way up to his current position in the 11th ranking through many tough fights and was even higher until he lost to Wilder in his last fight. Going up against him we have Zaad, a fighter who hasn’t done great as of late, but is still a very very good boxer and will be excited to fight someone other than Boretti.

Both of these fighters are very evently matched with Koniezko coming in with a slight advantage in jiu jitsu and muay thai. However, Zaad’s advantage in boxing may prove to be too much for Koniezko and we could see a new name on our top 15 after this week.

Fight 4 - Lightweight Division

(10-4, 130 lbs) Gunter “Meat Hooks” Schultz VS (7-7, 142 lbs) Jonathan “Money Shot” Davis

While we don’t get two fights with top 15 fighters in a row we do get the next best thing in Schultz who made it to the final 10 seconds of his last fight against Peidis which would have led to him being in the top 15 if he had won. Going up against him is a fighter who has been doing well recently, winning three straight fights, although two were via decision.

This will be a fight between two contrasting styles as Schultz attempts takedown after takedown to try and get to the ground while Davis fights solely on his feet, and looks lost off of his back. In his last fight Schultz took down his opponent only twice in 38 attempts, but seeing as this time he is going up against an inferior wrestler he should have the advantage coming into the fight.

Fight 5 - Lightweight Division

#14(13-8, 163 lbs) Mike “The Hammer” Van Rijn VS (9-4, 147 lbs) Jan “Champion” Jedrzejczyk

With another lightweight division fight we have Van Rijn, newly risen to the top 15 taking on Jedrzejczyk who will be making his IFC debut in this fight. Van Rijn has now won two straight fights with his most recent win over Touchard being the one that put him into the rankings. He will want to continue winning and see if he can’t make a push for the higher rankings. Opposite him Jedrzejczyk who only recently came over to the IFC will be looking to prove himself with a big win in his first fight in the IFC. He has had a relatively good career so far yielding a 9-4 record and will hope to continue his success from the previous organizations he was involved with.

Both fighters in this contest are very skilled in the clinch, but Van Rijn is a much better wrestler, while Jedrzejczyk is the better boxer and jiu jitsu grappler. In order to win Van Rijn will have to try out different things and see what he can get to work, or risk losing his position as the 14th seed in the lightweight division.

Fight 6 - Lightweight Division

#7(8-3, 164 lbs) “The Late Great” Feihck Tiote VS #4(8-4, 163 lbs) “Dark and Light” Soul Shadow

For our last fight of the undercard we end it with a bang as the 7th ranked Tiote takes on 4th ranked Shadow in a clash of two of the strongest fighters in the lightweight division. Tiote has been in the IFC for four contests now winning 3 of the 4, with the most recent two coming by decision against fighters in the rankings one of which (Lopez) was the second ranked fighter before being defeated. Now Tiote finds himself in a position to possibly earn himself a spot in the top 5 of arguably the toughest division in the IFC. Trying to maintain his position in the top 5 is Shadow whose only loss in his last 6 fights came against the now champion Mumu. He has made his way to the top 5 without beating any fighter in the rankings so he will need to prove himself in this fight.

This fight will be very interesting to watch as Shadow looks to be very slightly better on his feet while Tiote relies largely on his wrestling to get the victories. Tiote is definitely the superior wrestler, but Shadow is no stranger to fighting on the ground, having two submission victories to his name. This dichotomy will be key in determining who comes out on top in this fight with myself believing Tiote has the slight advantage entering the fight. However, you can’t count a fighter out and Shadow will have a chance at proving himself suited to a top 5 position.

Main Card

Fight 7 - Heavyweight Division

(10-6, 250 lbs) James “Clubber” Lang VS (9-4, 230 lbs) Fanta Coco

Opening our main card are two fighters making their IFC debut with Lang coming from the TGC and Coco coming from TBD. Lang not only finds himself in a new organization, but under new management as well. This former champion is extremely comfortable in the main card having headlined in 7 fights already in his career. Coco who is also a former champion in his old organization has headlined a few fights himself and should match up well against Lang. This fight will be a determining factor in which new fighter will be on top and which will be considered as only the second best joining fighter.

With so much pride on the line we can expect a very exciting fight, with both fighters preferring to fight standing this should add even more to the excitement of the bout. Lang is the superior boxer, but is worse at muay thai. However, his jiu jitsu, despite not being his usual win condition could end up being a very powerful tool that could help yield a victory for Lang. Due to his jiu jitsu I give the slight advantage to Lang, but either way we get to look forward to a great fight and hopefully many more to come as these two new fighters make their way in the IFC.

Fight 8 - Middleweight Division

#4(13-8, 180 lbs) Alexander Porto VS (6-3, 196 lbs) Ed “4 tds” ONeill

Just as in the previous fight we have a new fighter to the organization coming over from TBD to try and make his name in the IFC. Going up against him is Alexander Porto who has gone an impressive 5-2 since joining the IFC, gradually making his way up to his current position in the 4th spot of the rankings. With 4 fights of the night Porto is no stranger to difficult fights and we can expect this experience to play a factor in yet another fight that looks close. ONeill had large success in TBD with a 5-3 record and a decent position in the 185 lb division. Now in the IFC he gets a chance to once again prove himself a top tier fighter and boy does he get to do it with a bang, going up against the 4th ranked fighter right off the bat.

Porto will need to rely very heavily on his superior muay thai to come away with the win. His opponent holds the advantage in every other aspect and as such he will have to use smart game planning and other intangibles if he hopes to remain in the top 5 of the middleweight division.

Co-Main Event - Heavyweight Division

#4(10-1, 275 lbs) Iain “The CN” Tower VS #8(11-6, 230 lbs) Schmorgen Biscuit

As strange as it feels to say, for our co main event of the evening we have Iain Tower taking on Schmorgen Biscuit. It is very strange to be saying Tower’s name outside of the main event. He has been the headliner in his last 4 fights, with all being title fights. However, his upset at Heavyweight’s hands has resulted in the former champion fighting second to last. Going up against the ex champion is Biscuit. Biscuit has done well for himself in the heavyweight division beating couture and Bell, but in his last fight he lost to another ex champion Murha.

Tower is the obvious favorite coming in considering the fact that Biscuit lost to Murha, who is one of the people Tower defended his title belt against. However, these fighters are very similarly skilled with Tower being the superior muay thai fighter and Biscuit being the superior wrestling. If this fight goes to the ground, as it probably will, if Biscuit can avoid Tower’s submission attempts he definitely has a chance of earning himself an upset victory.

Main Event - IFC Lightweight Championship Title Fight

Champion(9-1, 169 lbs) Abdel “Fur Coat” Mumu VS #2(8-3, 170 lbs) Jax “Punch” Thomas

Finally we get to our main event of the evening which has the added bonus of being a title fight. Abdel Mumu gets to try his first title defense against the surging Thomas who got to the #2 ranking in only two fights with the IFC. Despite just obtaining the title Mumu has a lot of experience as champion from his previous organization and actually has 5 title fight victories to his name, something only a few fighters can claim in the IFC. He is a very diverse fighter who has won via knockout and submission multiple times. Thomas on the other hand is a very straightforward fighter looking to knock his opponent out in whatever way possible.

One would think that a fighter like Thomas who fights almost solely on his feet would be a poor wrestler, but in fact Thomas is the better wrestler of the two fighters. The only difference in these two fighters primary skills are muay thai in which Mumu has the advantage and wrestling where Thomas has the advantage. It is crazy to see a title fight where two people with only two fights in an organization duke it out over the belt. I give the advantage to Mumu, but no matter how solid his chin is, when pitted against Thomas’ power you can never expect an easy fight.

**Rankings are determined by hype/pop, p4p rank, win/loss record and a few company internal criteria. Rankings will typically be updated at the end of each week**

A lot of people have been going inactive lately, so if you go missing for 15 days or more without saying anything I will be removing you from the top 15 unless you contact me beforehand. It makes matchmaking very difficult when you don’t know when a person will come back and this behavior is not something that should be allowed in those within the power rankings.

Here at the King Theatre Los Angeles tonight Iron Man Fight Club brings you a 10 card MMA cage event of 3 weight classes. In partnership with IniTech Nutrition.

Main Event

155lbs

Klaus “The House” Chugman 15-3-0 (IFC 15-3-0) vs Gosha Lopez 7-3-0 (IFC 6-3-0)

This exciting headlining matchup could go either way depending whether Chugman can get the fight to the mat where he is so dangerous. Lopez although having a decent ground game himself will not have too many opportunities to get his tactics wrong there. Manager John Stevens may have his work cut out keeping the self confident Lopez to stick to the gameplan, however he seems to have produced a really good all round fighter and I think if he plays it smart he can get the win.

Prediction: Lopez Unanimous Decision.

265+lbs

Japa Koniu 9-4-0 (IFC 6-3) vs Big Murha (8-2-0 (IFC 7-2)

A match up of some contrast - 29 year old Japa Koniu with a decent MMA record and an up-and-coming manager of huge potential against 22 year old Big Murha guided by one of the most experienced and top-ranked managers in the game. While I’m sure we will see some stiff competition from Forfiter ElPolako’s stable in the future, Japa will be a minor obstacle in the path of bigger and better things for Murha, although expect him to put up a fight!

Prediction: Big Murha 3rd Round TKO (Strikes)

205lbs

Dany Crosby 13-4-0 (IFC 2-0) vs Terje “Nightmare” Warholm 8-5-1 (IFC 8-5-1)

Another promising manager tonight Cope T brings his fighter Dany Crosby to The King Theatre. Despite the 2 year age gap in the favour of Crosby - Warholm, making his 15th IFC appearance and manager Winterbottom II know the fight business well and I expect them to get the win.

Prediction: Terje “Nightmare” Warholm 2nd round TKO (High Kick)

Eusebio “Loves Gardening” Zapata 11-6-0 (IFC 4-2-0) vs Yen “Funky” Askren 9-4-1 (IFC 0-0 Debut)

I can only see this going one way despite “Funky” giving away 6 years in experience. Salty Kawa has an explosive talent in Askren (who also appears to like a spot of gardening) and I expect him to make a statement on his IFC debut. Perhaps we’ll see the rematch on a future “Gardening Tycoon”.

Prediction: Yen “Funky” Askren 1st Round KO (Punch)

Harry Entei 10-5-2 (IFC 3-1-0) vs Vape Diaz 6-4-0 (IFC 0-0 Debut)

Harry Entei was unimpressive in his last win against average opposition and there are doubts around his clinch game considering his impressive Muai Thai ability, without this then landing one of his lethal high kicks appears to be his only chance of success. Fortunately for him his opponent tonight also doesn’t have enough in his locker to trouble Pika Choo’s number 2.

Prediction: Harry Entei (Split Decision)

Tony “Hibo” Hibbert 4-2-0 (IFC 0-0 Debut) vs Ethan Sheehy 4-2-1 (IFC 2-0)

Two experienced managers go head to head in this exciting encounter. Both fighters are evenly matched but with very different styles, however Ethan will unwisely wear a Liverpool shirt during his ring walk to enrage Hibo, it will work, and he will soak up Sheehy’s high kicks on his huge granite chin, avoid the takedowns and win by a narrow decision.

Prediction: Tony “Hibo” Hibbert Split Decision.

Miki “The Viking” Viki 11-5-0 (IFC 0-0 Debut) vs Zach Assad 7-5-0 (IFC 0-0 Debut)

Two IFC debutants will battle it out in this 4th 155lbs matchup. Zach Assad makes his 3rd appearance for his new manager Pedro Chang who looks to have some serious potential in the game. The Iranian Assad has some good Muai Thai skills and a granite chin but the combination of experience from manager Jeff Mma and the explosive power of “The Viking” will be too much too soon for Chang and Assad.

Prediction: Miki “The Viking” Viki 1st round KO (Punch)

Damien “Avalon D” OQuinn 11-5-0 (IFC 2-2) vs Duc Minh “Ram” Pham 8-4-0 (IFC 6-3-0)

Standup will be the key to this fight with these 2 fairly evenly matched on the ground. Lebanese Damien OQuinn is coming off the back of a loss and he’ll suffer another nasty one here as Duc Minh Pham will possess too much power.

Prediction: Duc Minh “Ram” Pham 2nd Round TKO (Strikes)

Da Hee Tong 3-1-0 (IFC 0-1) vs Ture “Submarine” Torped 3-0-1 (IFC 2-0)

Another fighter giving away 6 years experience is young Ture Torped who has had a good start to his IFC career and is unbeaten in his 4 fights. Da Hee Tong has had a good start to his MMA career too and this could be a potential banana skin for “Submarine” but with the right tactics he can emerge.

Prediction: Ture “Submarine” Torped 3rd Round TKO (Strikes)

Anthony “The Animal” Griffith 8-3-0 (IFC 1-0-0) vs Jack Dawson 7-6-0 (IFC 7-6-0)

In the 2nd 265+ lbs fight of the evening Anthony “The Animal” Griffith faces off against Jack Dawson, however at a huge half-metre shorter and 5lbs heavier it’s Dawson who looks the most beastly. Griffith can surely find a way to beat this monstrousity!

Prediction: Anthony “The Animal” Griffith 2nd Round TKO
