Ironman Fight Club XIV - 2nd September 2017 (Hyashi’s Lounge – Los Angeles)

A whole weekend of IFC action starts here!

Fight 1: Chong “The Star Fish” Tay (3-2, 210lbs) vs. Bricks “Parpaing” Thrower (5-3, 204lbs)

Out first fight of the evening and it should be a fun one. Chong “The Star Fish” Tay, known for his aggressive “come at you with everything” style against the wild combos of Bricks “Parpaing” Thrower. Both fighters are coming off wins in their last fights and both will be looking to continue the climb out of the lower ranks of the IFC. Tay will have an advantage on the feet but may struggle if the fight hits the ground. If Bricks can manage to get the fight there expect things to end fairly quickly.

Fight 2: Lord “God of Destruction” Beerus (1-0, 144lbs) vs. Giovanni Gomes (0-1, 168lbs)

Next up, a battle of BJJ between two young Brown Belts. Lord Beerus is making his second appearance in the IFC cage after winning his debut against Mike Warrior back at IFC XI by armbar in the first round. His opponent, Giovanni Gomes, is also entering the cage for the second time but only after tasting bitter defeat at the hands of Terry Bogard at IFC X. Both fighters have had ample time to prepare and without much to go on we can only anticipate a methodical grappling chess match and a good showing from both of these youngsters

Fight 3: Heath “Lizard Arms” Bace (2-3, 300lbs) vs. Chara Zaad (3-3, 210lbs)

In his last fight, Heath “Lizard Arms” Bace managed to snap his three fight losing streak with a nice KO victory over Akio Yamamoto and get back to winning ways. Tonight he’ll face a very stern test against boxer Chara Zaad who is coming off a loss to a very tough opponent in his last fight. Zaad is known for having exciting fights and has won fight of the night honors on no less than four occasions. There’s no reason to believe this will be any different as Zaad’s boxing style is always enjoyable to watch. Bace has quite a size advantage and is far more capable on the ground then Zaad but whether he’ll be able to take advantage of that depends purely on whether he can avoid taken too much damage on the feet beforehand. Something he quite often struggles with.

Fight 4: Taz “Crash” Bandichoo (2-2, 240lbs) vs. German Cordova (0-1, 150lbs)

Taz “Crash” Bandichoo has been putting all of his efforts into his stand up lately and so far it’s been paying off. With a record of 2-2 and having gone unbeaten in his last two, Bandichoo will be looking to grow his stock with another win and really start to climb out of the middle of the roster. His opponent is Mexican Boxer German Cordova. Cordova is a natural featherweight who could even possibly make bantam if he really wanted too. He has fought once before back at IFC Mid Week 1 losing his debut fight by TKO. It’s been a while since that time so we wonder what he has learnt from his single loss. Cordova has exceptional boxing skills and will have to be at his best if he is to hang with the wild style of Bandichoo. Taz obviously has power in his hands and a granite chin to boot. He’ll be the bigger man and will not want to concede his run at this point. Cordova is going to have to be very, very good here tonight.

Fight 5 (New Blood Division): En “Metal Priest” Esch (1-4, 238lbs) vs. Joe “The Alternate” Average (0-0, 210lbs)

Technically our first ever fight from the new IFC New Blood Division which is open to 18 and 19 year olds only. En “Metal Priest” Esch has made the decision to move down from the main division presumably in order to gain more experience before taking on the big boys once more. Esch has found it tough going during his time with the IFC so we hope that a fresh start in a new division will be just what he needs to help reach his full potential. His opponent Joe “The Alternate” Average is making his MMA debut and is officially the first alternate for the New Blood Tournament that begins on the 3rd September. Joe Average seems to be well rounded and a jack of all trades so he will have ways to win this fight but Esch is the more experienced fighter by quite a margin and the heavy betting favorite to take this fight.

Fight 6: Damien “The Terror” Demento (2-1, 185lbs) vs. Jimbo “Gpk” Bradbrook (2-2, 160lbs)

Our next fight of the evening features Damien “The Terror” Demento taking on Lightweight fighter Jimbo “Gpk” Bradbrook. Demento currently sports a 2-1 record and comes from the same camp as #5 ranked Brooklyn Brawler. Unsuccessful in his first IFC appearance he came back last time and won a close decision over tricky wrestler Toghrul Rasizade. His opponent Jimbo Bradbrook is fresh off a first round KO over Victor Belfort only a short time ago at IFC XII. Bradbrook seems to be the more well round fighter off the two with a real advantage on the feet. On the ground it seems closer but Demento’s wrestling and size could be a factor. Both fighters look well prepared and we anticipate a good performance from them

Fight 7: Terry Bogard (2-0, 179lbs) vs. Jan Schrijber (1-0, 237lbs)

Terry Bogard now makes his third MMA appearance after choosing to take a detour from KT and so far it seems to have been a sucessful move. Currently 2-0 with both wins via KO in the first round, Bogard is threatening to become to take note of. He faces a tough test here in the way of Dutch Thai Boxer Jan Schrijber who is making his return to the cage after an impressive debut back at IFC VI. There he made quick work of James Gregor, finishing the fight in just 45 second of the first round. It’s highly anticipated that this fight will not touch the ground with both fighters fat more comfortable on their feet. Schrijber will be around 50lbs heavier than Bogard but Bogard has just taken out 300lb David Oconner so it’s unlikely to be a concern to him.

Fight 8: Greg “The Gronk” Bell (3-4, 300lbs) vs. Evgeni Lomachenko (4-1, 152lbs)

Greg “The Gronk” Bell is really having quite a roller coaster of a career. After losing his first two career fights he managed to turn things around and went undefeated in three until once again finding himself on the end of a two fight slump. Just about holding on to a spot in the Top 10, Bell now has to once again find a way to turn things around if he wants to remain there. His opponent is Evgeni Lomachenko who, up until his last fight, was a perfect 4-0. Now, coming into this fight after his first professional loss, Lomachenko will be looking for a better performance against Greg Bell. Both prefer to use their wrestling and BJJ although Bell might do well to take advantage of a small but significant advantage in the stand up. Lomachenko is much smaller at 152lbs compared to Bell’s gargantuan 300lb mass and that could also be significant as he struggled to deal with the size advantage of his last opponent Eldar Tskhadaia. With such a size disadvantage it’s hard to pick Evgeni as the favorite in this match up but with Bell’s current form he just might be.

Co-Main Event: Mihail “No Respect For You” Medzy (5-1, 155lbs) vs. Cattan “The Carribean Death” Engoria (3-0-1, 215lbs)

Our Co-Main Event of the evening is once again expected to be a ground based battle with Mihail “No Respect For You” Medzy taking on up and coming grappling prospect Cattan “The Caribbean Death” Engoria. Medzy came into the IFC with a large buzz surrounding him. Undefeated in four fights and all wins by first round submission it isn’t hard to see why. In his IFC debut he was greeted by an in-form Greg “The Gronk” Bell and in just under two minutes the brash newcomer was humbled. Now 5-1 with his last fight being a submission victory over Gin Kobra, Mihail could still become a force to be reckoned within the top tier of the IFC and a win tonight would most likely thrust him somewhere into the Top 10. His opponent is also on track to becoming a solid fighter for the IFC and although didn’t manage to get the victory in his IFC debut last time out, is still undefeated at this time. Cattan Engoria came to the IFC, similar to Medzy, with a 3-0 record with all wins via submission in the first. His first fight in his new home was against Boss Yonic where both men fought to a tough, entertaining draw. Like Medzy, a win here for Cattan would very likely put him among the org’s top fighters. Both fighters have put all their time into crafting their ground game. Medzy the better wrestler. Engoria the higher belt. This fight is very relvant to the IFC upper roster and both fighters have an opportunity to really start getting serious about a title shot.

Main Event: (#2) “Red Ribbon Army’s” Android Seventeen (6-1, 283lbs) vs. (#3) “Gypsy” Tommy Walcott (5-0, 140lbs)

Our main event of the evening pits exciting new signing Android Seventeen against the IFC mainstay “Gypsy” Tommy Walcott in what really has been a last minute affair. Android Seventeen comes to us sporting a very impressive 6-1 record and with the obvious intention of shaking up the top of the division. Currently on a four fight win streak and with all six wins by KO in the first round, the sole loss on his record seems to be far, far in the distance by now. His opponent Tommy Walcott has a lot to lose by taking this last minute fight. Currently 5-0 and with a legitimate claim for a title shot, Walcott has agreed to put it all on the line to welcome the dangerous newcomer and step up to provide a headline fight at IFC XIV. With both fighters favoring the stand up aspect and with both showing a penchant for KO’s it’s highly unlikely this fight goes the distance and with no time for a training camp it will simply come down to who has the most about them now. Android Seventeen comes in #2 while Walcott remains at #3 so make no mistake about it, this fight is absolutely a title contender fight. Whoever walks away from this with the win would be absolutely undeniable as a #1 contender

This is not going on much but my prediction based on what little I know is that Kyle Animal Ryan is the favorite to win this in my opinion of course. Second round seems really exciting in my predictions as you would have Kyle Ryan vs Jack Dawson than Terry crew vs Johanathon Davis. Its anyones guess who will actually make it to the end but my prediction is kyle ryan vs micky Kirby.

1 win away from making at the least 50k, the big thing most of us will learn next round if we don't already know (and I don't) is how big the affects will be of the big differences of the next round. As a new player that 50k is a lot to help me make other new 18 y/o as terry crew was my first chance so far to make one to train.

Event XIV kicked off a busy weekend for the Ironman Fight Club with the first of it's two events.

Engoria is still undefeated in the IFC and currently sitting just outside the top 10 looking like a potential force to be reckoned with.

In further ranking news, Russian fighter Evgeni Lomachenko moves into the top 10 for the first time after one relatively one sided decision victory over Greg "The Gronk" Bell. Lomachenko was giving up close to 150lbs in weight making the feat all the more impressive.

Ironman Fight Club - New Blood Tournament Opening Round (3rd September 2017) - Recap

The Ironman Fight Club's quest to crown a champion for it's New Blood division got underway with the opening round of its 16 man tournament and already there's been some surprises.

Starting with the top half of the bracket Craig Marduk didn't waste any time when he took out Kurenai Galneryus in just 22 seconds of the first round. Marduk looks to have some scary power in those hands and also bags his team 20k with the fastest KO of the round (generously awarded by Lieutenant Columbo) and 2k for KO of the night

Next up Xing Pugberg best Joe Pesci with a kimura mid way through round 2. It was a classic grappler vs. striker match up and on this occasion the grappler came out on top. With his submission Xing is awarded the 2k submission of the night. Pugberg and Marduk now advance to face each other it what interestingly looks like a mirror of what they've just faced.

Somewhat of a surprise in the next fight when Fay Gott beat Kyle "The Animal" Ryan over three rounds to advance to the next round. Ryan had been tipped as a potential favorite to take it all but it was Gott who came out on top on this occasion. It was a close fight with both fighters taking a round apiece before Gott stepped it up for the third. Both fighters were awarded 2k for Fight of the Night honors.

Rounding out the top half of the brackets we had Oliver Kohler versus "The Hunk" Jack Dawson. Dawson had been very confident going into this tournament and as the most experienced fighter in the group perhaps with good reason. He advances to face Gott after winning by TKO at 2:51 of Round 1.

In the bottom half of the bracket we had perhaps the biggest upset of the night when Terry Crew, who came into the tournament with only a few days of training before this fight, beat Thierry Paulin via armbar at 3:46 of Round 1.

Next Jonathan Davis, one of the oldest fighters in the tournament, took just 1:46 to advance to the next round with a victory over One Fortytwo. Davis will now go on to face Terry Crew in the next round.

Terje Warholm managed to advance to the next round with a 2nd round TKO over The Shadow.

Lastly and rounding out the bottom of the bracket Micky Kirby showcased his impressive wrestling skills taking out Kenny Tchusuk via KO in the 1st Round.

Gott I hope you don't try to spam clinches again. We are both MT and to be honest I truly believe I have the edge in clinch.

Either way best of luck?

Another very interesting match up is micky Kirby vs terje warholm, terje clearly has the experience advantage over micky Kirby however his previous loss comes from taking down Ken Shamrock and getting tapped out by a white belt out of nowhere. I feel like that now is the wildcard match of this tournament since its up in the air and if they can beat we assume Jonathan Davis in the semis they can sneak all the way to the finals.

Ironman Fight Club XV (Hyashi’s Lounge – Los Angeles)

Fight 1: Jon “Under The Thumb” Anderson (0-7, 170lbs) vs. Pero Kostolomac (3-4, 267lbs)

Opening the evenings MMA action is a fight from the lower end of the IFC roster. Jon Anderson is currently 0-7 and still looking no closer to picking up his first win but if ever there was an award for persistence Anderson would be a shoe in. His opponent on this occasion is IFC veteran Pero Kostolomac who is himself currently on the end of a four fight losing streak. You can bet the house on Kostolomac breaking that run tonight but still he must not be complacent. He has the skills on the feet to make this a quick nights work but should the fight hit the ground Pero will lose any advantage he held and by a large margin.

Fight 2: Mikey Bee (1-0, 250lbs) vs. Ken “The Worlds Most Lethal” Shamrock (1-2, 175lbs)

Mikey Bee made his MMA debut at IFC XII and got straight into winning ways with a decision victory over Efan Abiodun. Tonight he faces Ken Shamrock who has run into a bit of turbulence in his short career so far. Currently on a two fight losing streak after an impressive IFC debut, Shamrock will be looking end that run with a win over Bee. Though both favor the stand up it is Shamrock who would have the advantage in that area. Bee does posses strong wrestling skills so if that somehow transfers into offense his odds would most definitely go up.

Fight 3: Brock “The Bodyguard” Sampson (0-0, 170lbs) vs. Victor “Phenom” Belfort (1-4, 220lbs)

Making his debut in the IFC, a man from the same camp as fighters such as the Brooklyn Brawler and Damian Demento. Brock “The Bodyguard” Sampson will no doubt be looking to emulate the early success of the aforementioned fighters and take advantage of the bad run of losses of his opponent Victor “Phenom” Belfort. Belfort hasn’t managed to get his hand raised in four consecutive outings now and he must be wondering what he can do to turn things around.

Fight 4: David Oconner (3-4, 300lbs) vs. Akio Yamamoto (3-3, 150lbs)

David Oconner makes his return to the cage after suffering a first round KO at the hands of Terry Bogard. Previous to that Oconner was looking extremely destructive and on a three fight win streak all by the way of KO. His opponent is submission wrestler Akio Yamamoto who is also entering the bout of the back of a loss. In his last fight Yamamoto had the unfortunate luck to run into a monster left hook from 300lb Heath Bace in what was otherwise a fight many predicted Yamamoto to win. Once again Yamamoto will giving up a huge amount of weight in this fight and will no doubt be very aware of the power that Oconner possesses. Simply put this fight will come down to whether Oconner can connect before Yamamoto can find a way to get this fight to the ground

Fight 5: “Dark and Light” Soul Shadow (1-1, 170lbs) vs. Sirimongkol Niyotrong (0-1, 152lbs)

Seventeen year old prospect Soul Shadow makes his second IFC appearance after a spectacular TKO victory over Boyd Clark in his debut fight. Currently looking extremely well rounded with competent skills across the board Soul Shadow could very well end up being the real deal. Tonight he faces a stern test in stand up with his opponent Siromongkol Niyotrong. Niyotrong had a very tough debut fight against a more experience opponent and ended up losing by TKO in round 2. Although disappointing, Niyotrongs camp were pleased with the effort of his performance. In this match up, Niyotrong may have a slight advantage in the stand up though Shadow looks to be more than capable of holding his own there but the ground is where Niyotrong would truly be out of his depth. It will be very interesting to see if Soul Shadow decides to stand and trade or try and take the fight towards where he’ll have the biggest advantage.

Fight 6: Klaus “The House” Chugman (5-2, 130lbs) vs. Giovanni Gomes (1-1, 168lbs)

Our sixth fight of the evening pits two BJJ brown belts against each other in what will no doubt be a ground war. Klaus “The House” Chugman returns to the cage in quick fashion after only seeing action several days ago. There he got back to winning ways with a submission victory over hapless Jon Anderson in the first minute of round one. Tonight he faces a much tougher challenge in young BJJ fighter Giovanni Gomes. Gomes doesn’t have the experience that Chugman does but he will have a slight advantage in size as do most of Chugmans opponents. His last bout he came out on top against fellow BJJ brown belt Lord Beerus in an exciting back and forth submission shoot out. Chugman could be considered the favorite for this fight with his experience and superior wrestling being the main factors but will still have to be very careful in the guard of Gomes as any lapse in concentration could end up being costly

Fight 7: Delwyn “Born Wynner” Baines (3-3, 168lbs) vs. Daniel “Unsanitary” Sainty (4-3, 150lbs)

Delywn “Born Wynner” Baines in back after a very tough fight against Serj Malakian in which he displayed great determination and heart holding on to the third round before getting caught with a huge knee when closing the distance. Tonight he’ll face Daniel Sainty who is back after suffering his first loss after a run of four submission victories. Both fighters have been in and out of the top 10 since the beginning of the org’s history and while both sit just outside currently it’s quite possible that a victory would be enough to vault them back in. Both fighters are almost polar opposites of each other with Baines the boxer and Sainty the BJJ brown belt. Baines has been gradually putting on size in order to be more competitive against the heavier fighters and will actually have a slight weight advantage on this occasion. Sainty does have a history of struggling against strikers and without much in the way of takedowns may have to get creative if he wants to avoid ending up trading blows with Baines.

Co-Main Event: (#6) Brooklyn Brawler (4-1, 190lbs) vs. Jaime Hudgens (2-1, 300lbs)

Our Co-Main event is a battle between two heavy handed fellows who have both been looking pretty destructive lately. #6 ranked Brooklyn Brawler makes his third appearance in the IFC and has a record of 4-1 overall. All four victories are by way of KO and currently Brawler has gone undefeated in his last three. His opponent Jaime Hudgens is only slightly less experienced with a record of 2-1 overall and coming into this bout on a two fight win streak again both by KO. Both fighters are evenly matched with strong boxing and while Brawler has the better wrestling, Hudgens has the more well rounded ground game overall. Hudgens also has a sizable weight advantage and an opportunity to gain victory over a current top 10 ranked fighter. For Brawler a win here would put him at four in a row and ever closer to challenging for a title shot.

Main Event: (Champion) Mew Choo (6-0, 191lbs) vs. (#1) “Corpse Making Cowboy” Don Joe (5-0, 190lbs)

In out main event of the evening IFC Champion Mew Choo returns to the cage after becoming the first fighter to successfully defend the IFC belt at least once. Still undefeated after six fights, Choo is looking harder and harder to beat after each and every fight. In his last, he took out former champion Ricky “Big Tex” Hughes in just 40 seconds of the first round. Something not many would have predicted when the fight was announced. For his second title defence he faces perhaps his most dangerous challenger yet in the shape of undefeated former Empire Grind middleweight champion Don Joe. Don Joe enters the IFC with a huge buzz and an immediate opportunity to seize his second belt in as many fight organisations. Both fighters are natural middleweights and both favor a more traditional boxing style on the feet. Should the fight hit the floor Choo would most likely have the upper hand with his submission prowess but going on past history Choo is unlikely to force the fight to the ground on purpose. Don Joe has a granite chin and with five KO’s in five fights, some obvious firepower in those fists too. Choo is also a very proficient finisher and no fighter has yet managed to go the distance with him. With all this in mind it’s plain to see that this fight is going to be a war and whilst there’s no guarantee of a finish, something you can bet your house on is that someone is walking away from this fight with a “0” on the end of his record.
