Didn't see The Volk/Max fight but saw the decision. People on the stream chat are saying Max got robbed. Look for the next pick'em thread soon, that event is on Wednesday. He won 1 and 2 comfortably 10-9, round 3 could have gone either way but I think Max shaded it 10-9. Volkanovski won 4 and 5 comfortably. And despite twitter idiots who switched on during the mcgregor rise, there is no way there were any 10-8's in the fight. A knockdown does not equal a 10-8 in MMA I am a believer that challenger MUST take the title from the champ and Max missed his chance. I had 1000 on Alex and believe i should have lost my money but I also think it was close enough that it was definitely no robbery. When the fight ended i had the same impression, that Max was robbed, however, i agree that the 3rd round was not 100% his, it was very close. Also Max lost the last 2 rounds (which is never a good sign) and it felt that he was simply cruising to try to get the decision win, where as Alex was pushing to get the finish. As for the 10-8 debate for rounds 1 and 2, i did not see it that way either, Alex got hit and he lost his balance, but can we really consider either of those rounds as him being "rocked", he was straight up on his feet and was not in any real trouble, both were 10-9 for me as well. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Gator001 Posted July 13, 2020 Report Share Posted July 13, 2020 spot on Mentor A lot of fans dont realise 1, there is no knockdown rules in MMA as it would slow things up too much 2 In boxing a knockdown is called by the ref not the judges and fight is stopped and standing 8 given. Imagine if these judges could call auto 10-8's for knockdowns during a fight, they cant even get the basic rules right. I have seen footage of UFC judges looking at their phones in the middle of rounds... A ref can usually see if it was a slip, off balance clip or a knockdown, a judge usually cannot (if they are even paying attention) You are exactly right about the knockdowns early, moving in, clipped above the ear, went down but already jumping straight up with zero loss of equilibrium I still think Max was unlucky not to get it (although there is at least one on every card like that) but you dont win titles on split decisions against champs, you take the title Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
