FinalBell
So there's been a lot of talk about this so I decided to review 5he facts and look between the lines and made this video https://youtu.be/EnklEZ8jmHQ What do people think? Is Jones Entitled? Or is he genuinely undervalued and badly treated?
damndaniel
Truth is probably somewhere in the middle. UFC could def pay more overall. But horrible timing by Jones to be fair, he should have tried this way earlier in his career or wait until after things are more normal in the world. Waiting until a pandemic after he has had 2 close fights at LHW, huge job loss and the economy in a dangerous spot, no UFC ticket sales. I can understand the UFC's frustration at the timing of his pay raise request. The main thing I don't like is the UFC has these guys trapped in contracts, and they will keep offering them fights with the same pay rates, so the fighter either fights out his contract before he can be a free agent, or he is retired. The counter argument is its on the fighters if they sign a 10 fight contract or some shit. Sign short 2-3 fight contracts instead of 6-12 fight contracts and then you can negotiate your pay more often without sitting out. Also idk how it works but I think the UFC has a championship rule in the contract, where you can't leave the UFC unless you lose the belt. Idk if thats true but I see people mention it a lot for decades now. Take that with a grain of salt though, idk the details.
stpierrecanada
As much as I can’t stand Jon Jones, I’m not disagreeing with him here. UFC can afford to pay their fighters a lot more. Willing to bet a lot of fighters jump ship to Bellator/ONE FC/PFL to prove a point when their contracts expire.
