Unfortunately, i think he is right. The belts do not matter, who is the best does not matter, all that matters is the money fights. I get it that fighters need to make money, but how things are going these days, the UFC is becoming less of a competitive sport, it is becoming a fight between celebrities. I think with the coming of Brock, this was the first time it happened some relatively inexperienced fighter got a fight for the title (i think he was 5-2 or something when he got the shot). Basically they put the title onto him (he was fighting Couture who was 45 or something at the time). Conor has taken this shit to a new level. Frankly i have no problem with all this, but i miss the old school stuff as well, where we get to see real fighters competing for the belt. Are you really trying to defend that publicity stunt? Mir/Lesnar 2 has no bearing on whether or not Lesnar deserved the title fight or not as it took place after he won the title. He got the title shot based on his name and a 1 fight win streak, nothing more. A win over Heath Herring who hadn't won two fights in a row since 2004 and a career can in Japan. Big resume. Not to mention Herring, like Hunt was handpicked for him as both had weak wrestling and no offense ground game. Both perfect opponents for him. Be a legitimate competition featuring the best fighters in the world. Gentlemen... we can have it all. We can have Brock Lesnar AND Demetrious Johnson. We can have Joanne Werdyycjakx Champion AND Paige Van Zant. One does not detract from the other. Like boxing and wrestling, they both work toward the same goal. One gets butts in the seats, the other keeps them there. One makes money, the other adds legitimacy. No, C M Punk doesn't deserve to be there - but he will help Mickey Gall get paid better. They are making some stupid, pointless match ups when they have the opportunity to make some more interesting fights. I think they need to cut down on the events maybe to like 2 a month (one numbered card - one fight night card) so they don't have so many shitty watered down cards like the one this weekend, quality over quantity. The new womens division was handled very poorly IMO, I think they should have let a few fights happen in that division before crowning a champion, Holm was on a 2 fight losing streak entering that and GDR was on a 2 fight win streak against two randoms and a 6-3 record. That belt just seems like a joke. Speaking of joke belts - whats with all the interim shit going down recently? No-one cares the interim belt and they are trying to sell it as some big deal - if you haven't got the actual belt then you are not a champion. The problem is that they want to expand way too fast, they clearly lack the talent to run all these events and even worse they seem to be treating them shit and paying them poorly because a lot of their better fighters are leaving to Bellator. In the past they were mostly losing their washed up fighters, but Rory, Bader are talent in their prime they have recently lost (among others). I also totally agree about the new Division. I see no point in crowning a champ so early, they do not even have a division yet! All they have is a couple of fighters who never fought at 145lbs. Holly was on a 2 fight losing streak going into this fight. When was the last time a fighter got a title shot while losing 2 fights in a row? (I think Frankie Edgar got a title shot with Aldo after losing, but he was a champ moving down, so that was not totally unreasonable) Even if it happened, it is not something frequent.
