WMMA 5 out now

I'll be keeping an eye on WMMA for a while now, but I haven't played or downloaded any of them because the price always seemed a little too high for my liking.

Do you think it's worth 34.95? Maybe if I hear enough good things about this one I'll bite the bullet and buy it.

It all depends what you mean, i think that in general the game is probably over priced for what you can get for that price elsewhere, however i look at things differently. I can get a LOT of hours from this game, for me personally it is comfortable because i can do something else, have it play in the background and then pop in, make a few adjustments to the booking and move on. It is almost like running an org in Tycoon, but at a much faster pace and with a few elements that are not present here (such as the human factor and a few other things). I think Tycoon could probably benefit from adding some of the features of that game here such as the "quick tournament" feature among others.

I think that I have played WMMA 3 for a bit, and if I remember well, it was very fun during the first events, but then became boring and repetitive, cause all u seem to do is book cards. I think there was some other game in development where you could own a gym, sign fighters with different stats and styles and fight them, plus it was planned to be online. Looked nice but I am not sure if they continued developing it.

It does get repetitive for sure, i guess it depends how much you like booking, historical stats and you do have to have some fantasy/imagination when playing this game. You need to actually believe you are booking real fighters. For example, there are various things that can play into this game, such as the reality TV, you could promote some marketable character to try to get him over on TV and then specially book him in a way where he is likely to win, playing to their strengths, then try to some how win the title. There is also elements such as demographics, which means certain regions want to see local stars do well, that could be a huge issue if lets say you are an org based in Africa and lack proper marketable Black or local stars Or if you are an Asian org but struggle to find larger HW type fighters for that division.

You also have random events take place, such as legal issues, i had a case where my org got hit with a 20m fine due to avoiding tax. I also had some interesting cases where i was pushing a particular fighter (Josh Barnett) and he won the title, he ended up being tested for PED's and got caught, so i had to strip my title holder as he was out with a suspension for 1 year. There are also other interesting elements with scouting for new talent, you are often in a bit of a dilemma to sign the new prospect guy you know you will be good simply because you lack younger fighters for him to compete against. I ended up leaving one such prospect, i added them to the shortlist, he won 5 fights in a row and i got into a bidding war with Bellator, i ended up losing that, he is now 9-0 and their WW champ.

This is most certainly not everyone's piece of cake though, as you said, it gets very repetitive and i would assume 95% of people would not be into games like this, but this is MMA Tycoon, so i guess this is about the closest there is to this game.

Unless something significant has changed...

WMMA is basically being an org owner in MMATycoon with better graphics and more fighter character/detail but you're playing by yourself and it's just as boring. The fights are much more boring than the worst mmatycoon fight but the ground game works lol.

oh, no strategic element involved with fighting. you basically play Dana White. bunch of org stuff.

Which is basically what i do in this game as well, which is why i like WMMA. There are probably more elements to that game than this game from an org standpoint, but fighting is a lot more generic for sure and it does get a bit repetitive.

I picked this up. A ton of improvements from WMMA 3. I'm really enjoying a lot of them. Still not perfect, so I'm sad to hear this will be the last edition.

I actually enjoy the simulation better than Tycoon sometimes. A lot of different positions and weird little things that keep it from being too repetitive. Other times though, it's really bad. Overall, I'd say Tycoon's pbp experience is better, but there are things I like better in this simulation and it honestly seems a bit more realistic in certain areas

It is pretty good, i started a game from scratch to see how the world would develop over time. Basically a world with just 100 fighters and a couple of orgs, judges and some announcers, it takes a while to build up but it is interesting for sure.

  • 2 years later...

Anyone still play this? Is there no community/mods anymore?

The real world mod is updated quite regularly, I just started a new run last week and it seems alright for the most part. Some fighter's stats outside of the UFC (and low level within it) are really fucked though
