Getting back your signing bonuses from FAs

I'm going to try and put something in place that gives you a signing bonus back if a fighter goes inactive or to Free Agency without fighting any fights on the current contract. This will be in place forever, not just for this amnesty.

Bottom line - don't release any free agents yet.

I think it should be just for the amnesty.

Money lost to signing bonuses is a problem that doesn't need to be tackled with code because it can be tackled with competing business models.

Either you hand out signing bonuses freely, taking into account that you will take some losses to dropoffs, and if this turns out to be the most succesful model no refunds are needed (because you're still succesful).

The other way is to be stingier with bonuses to new/unproven managers, losing less bonus-money to dropoffs while having a harder time scraping up new fighters. If this model is more succesful businesses should switch over to it, less bonusmoney will be handed out, and refunds wont be needed either.

Related to this is that (apart from multigate, the scale of which nobody could have anticipated and which means losing a lot of established/active managers) the losing bonus "issue" already has an apparent solution. The solution is: Don't hand out any signing bonuses at all. The result of which will be that fighters sign with someone else. This should make you realize that what you're paying for is basically that the fighter doesn't sign with anyone else. Once they signed with you (and thus not with someone else like they would if you didn't offer a bonus) you got what you paid for.

Well, we'll see... It's one of the most moaned-about things in Tycoon history so it would certainly go down well with most people to let them have their signing bonuses back if the fighter is just released straight away.

Absolutely, particularly in Montreal where you have to throw around huge signing bonuses to try and get new fighters before other companies, only to find out the manager of the guy you signed isn't interested any more.

I've got a few like that at the moment, but I'll keep hold of them now.

Just to clarify, is it fighters who haven't actually fought or fighters that haven't been offered a fight?

It would have to be a guy who hasn't faught at all and who is retired.

We'll be introducing an inactivity of 90 days on all accounts, so you would basically just have to let the guy sit there and die for a bit for inactive accounts, but if someone released a fighter to FA and they didn't get picked up, they would retire and you could get your money back.

I think backelie is right.

Its good to do it just now because this is a bit of a freak occurance (and happening to so many people on a reasonable scale). But if you give money up front it is YOUR RISK. You are tempting someone with money and if thats all they care about you can be sure the next time if your offer isnt the biggest you will lose out. If its such a big risk to give someone 80k to sign, then dont.

Throwing money at problems (because you know your risk is insured) should not be the most viable option, because its easier to do that than working out a good relationship with someone and trying to get them to stay that way.

I have a crazy idea suggestion...sorry i am in a rush and dont have time to find a post for ideas...SORRY....

But maybe have some sort of button on managers page's to suggest removal? for the managers that sign up one day, make fighters, and never come back. Just have a button that kinda of "votes" for a player and when a manager has several votes, the guys running this show can take them out??? just a suggestion.

This really is a sweet game.

Mike,

What are the chances that this will be lowered from 90 days, to say 30 days? If someone has not been on in 30 days..I would assume that there is a good chance they will not be coming back. Otherwise as an org owner I would still have to offer an inactive managers fighters fights in the event that their contract inactivity is set at like 35 days, just to have to turn around and replace the fight like a day later.

I would think that there may be a way to have like a "account hold" button or something if you were going away for an extended vacation, job training, jail, etc... that way there might be some inclination of coming back, and set that at 90 days. Just an Idea.

There should be some built in protection for the org's for when a manger signs a 4 fight deal, fights 1 fight and loses then releases the fighter. They should be either obligated to fight more fights under their contract or have to refund the signing bonus. Having this only for fighters who don't fight any fights on their contracts doesn't do enough. It should include any fighter who fights less than 50% of the fights on the contract. If the manager thinks that if they lose 1 moe fight then they will release the fighter then they should have either the decency to sign a 1 fight deal or be made to pay a penalty to the Org for breaking the contract.

I personally do not think a manager should be able to release a fighter who is currently under contract. He signed the contract so he should honor it, or work something out with the owner if he really wants to cut him that badly.
