(Formerly The Global Colloseum 320k Open Weight Tournament)

David Paddington (13-5, 153lbs) vs. Ananada “AB” Bunysarn (10-2, 190lbs)

Here we are folks. The final fight of the 32 man, Open Weight 320k Tournament. Started by the Global Colosseum and finished by Empire!

After some incredible action in the semi-finals, we now come down to the remaining two fighters in the tournament.

First up we have Ananda “AB” Bunysarn who just grazed past Rob Kardashian to get here after a razor thin majority decision victory went in his favour. Kardashian’s manager had raised some concerns about the speed and fitness of his fighter compared to the slightly smaller Bunysarn but in the end, it was the judges that handed “AB” his spot in the final and a well deserved one at that. The bout was action packed with Bunyasarn tenderising Kardashians legs throughout and Kardashian working tirelessly to control the action in the clinch and perhaps get away from the more technical striking repertoire of his Thai opponent. Surprisingly, even though a good portion of the fight did in fact take place in the clinch, it was Bunyasarn who perhaps did the better work there. This certainly had an effect on the judges decision at the end of the fight and with Kardashian unable to catch Bunyasarn with one of his trademark hammers, the fight went as predicted and the silky smooth Thai striker looking the slightly better of the two after fifteen minutes.

Elsewhere in the other semi-final match up, there was stunned silence as natural featherweight David Paddington blitzed the 285lb KO machine John Braddock by firstly managing to get the big man off of his feet and then finishing him with an incredible guillotine submission five seconds from the end of round one. It was this writers opinion, and the opinion of many others included, that Braddock would simply be too big and strong for Paddington to handle and that his big right hand would likely find a way to touch his chin at some point.

Braddock looked set to do just that early on as he bundled Paddington into the cage and began to bully him in the clinch with shots to the head and ribs but Paddington, though starting to trade initially, did the smart thing and jumped guard dragging the big man to the floor. From there it was clear that Braddock had little strategy but to go into lock down and stall for a referee stand up but with Paddington relentlessly hunting for submissions there was no reason to stand the fight up and Paddington soon found an opening from which he was able to finish.

It was a big suprise but perhaps not to Paddington who now comes into this final with much more than just an outside shot.

Could it be possible that the completely unfancied, completely overlooked David Paddington would actually be the favourite going into this final? Let’s break it down.

Definitely he is no slouch on the feet and though not quite on the level of Bunyasarn there certainly would be no gulf between them. He is the superior wrestler and without question is a good few levels above in the jiu-jitsu area. He is also the more experienced fighter with a much better rate of finishes in his record and has also been a champion in his weight class, an accolade that Bunyasarn cannot yet claim to equal. So with all this in mind, how is David Paddington not the overwhelming favourite going into this final?

The answer would likely rest in the management camps between the two.

While Paddington comes from a credible camp with plenty of experience, it isn’t quite on par with Bunyasarn’s currently, and who’s manager resides at the time of writing, firmly in the top 5 and is a former number one. This difference is, in my opinion at least, enough to bridge the gap between the technical and physical skills difference of their fighters though not necessarily guarantee victory.

While Bunyasarn is likely a very good defensive grappler, Paddington is on another level entirely and should the fight hit the floor, it might not be enough to just stall and try to shut down Paddingtons ground game. There is of course the added element of the championship rounds. So far, Bunyasarn has never competed in a five round fight where as Paddington has (though it must be noted, only once and he was finished in the fourth). Will these extra rounds favour the smaller fighter especially later on in the fourth or fifth?

That is assuming the fight gets that far however, as so far, Bunyasarn has managed to KO the two smaller opponents he faced in the tournament within two rounds. Obviously he has power in his strikes and that may concern Paddington but again it must be noted, Paddington has not yet ever been finished by KO.

Many factors make this an intriguing fight and indeed it should be a very exciting one. A lot of questions will need answering but above all else a tournament champion must be crowned. Neither of these two fighters would likely have been picked to be here at this point which makes things all the more enjoyable and just goes to show that the world of MMA is many things but very rarely predictable.

Title Fights

Week Ending Feb 3rd 2018
Empire Bantamweight Title Fight
(EMP MacGowan vs Snowdon, 2nd February 2019)
Lito Alcala vs. Dohn "Houdini" Jodson
It was an all too brief reign as champion for Lito Alcala as he was unable to successfully defend his newly won title on the first attempt.
Alcala made the headlines when he upset longstanding champion and bantamweight star Wamberto Boaz some weeks ago and created quite a buzz here at Empire with the general feeling that he might be able to make a run of things in the division but up and coming youngster Dohn Jodson wasn't to be denied his third title is as many orgs
Alcala tried his best to assert dominance on the fight but Jodson made sure that he punished anything less then perfect thrown by the champion and with mean intentions shown with every counter punch, had Alcala out for the count just after the start of round two.
A tremendous showing from Jodson who as previously mentioned now becomes a three-time multiple org champion. All the more impressive is the fact that he as achieved this by 25 years of age.
We can now look forward to an absolute epic between himself and number one contender Yodsawan Sitsongrit both of whom are currently ranked number one and two respectably in the MMATycoon world.
Empire Featherweight Title Fight
(EMP Escobar vs Madog, 3rd February 2019)
Diego Escobar vs. Iolyn "Tywysog y Gigfran" Madog
Featherweight champion Diego Escobar met old adversary Iolyn Madog for the third time in his twelfth title defence and what a fight it was.
In their previous two meetings, Escobar had managed to win a comfortable judges decision and had always managed to look a slight step ahead leading many to wonder if Madog could ever improve on those results and actually push Escobar this time. The answer was yes, but not quite enough.
Escobar cruised to a 3-0 lead heading into round four and things looked to be much the status quo between the two but Madog managed to step it up a gear and started to pull things back. By the end of the five rounds, Madog had done enough to convince one judge that he was the better fighter but unfortunately for him the other two judges saw it the other way and once again Diego Escobar had the belt wrapped around his waist and was declared the champion for the twelfth time in a row.
An amazing run as champion for Escobar with many wondering if there is anybody out there that will be able to wrest that title away from him.
His next challenger will be 14-2 Petdee Sitsongrit who joins Empire from the now defunct Sydney Fights league and left there as both their 145lb and 155lb champion.

EMPIRE 320k Open Weight Tournament Champion

(Formerly The Global Colloseum 320k Open Weight Tournament)

http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14058825852612.jpg

Big congratulations to David Paddington on his win over Ananada "AB" Bunyasarn in London tonight.

Paddington came into the tournament as a somewhat unfancied commodity but the few that did put their money behind him at the start of this will no doubt feel vindicated as he seemingly got better and better as the tournament went on.

And as if to really plant an exclamation point on the end of a superb run that saw him defeat the likes of former GFO featherweight champion Beta Knox, then undefeated heavyweight Benjamin Kuellar and three time multiple org heavyweight champion John "The Hooligan" Braddock, Paddington absolutely dominated his final match winning each and every round until he was finally able to cap it all off with a guillotine submission finish midway through round five.

It is unknown what exactly this young fighter has planned now but wherever he ends up he is sure to have a bright future ahead of himself and with a ton of hype following close behind.

Week Ending Feb 10th 2019
Empire Welterweight Title Fight
(EMP Steve vs Storm, Wombley Arena, London)
http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/15022514001714.jpg http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/35/35w24.jpg
Chris "The Revenant" Steve vs. Corban "The Wolf" Storm
MMATycoon star Chris "The Revenant" Steve defended his welterweight title for the fourth time in front of a bumper crowd of 86408 fans. This time the man on the other side of the cage was the nomadic warrior Corban Storm who earned the right to challenge Steve when he defeated Polliisi Partio in a number one contender bout some weeks prior and a good few in the business thought that Storm might just be the one to upset Steve on this occasion.
Storm started off strong in round one, mixing up his strikes and keeping Steve guessing. He managed to take the fight to the ground early on though Steve had no interest in indulging the challenger and fought hard to regain his feet. Both fighters worked hard but most gave the round to the challenger
Round two looked to be much the same with both fighters going at it at range and in the clinch and once again Storm scoring with a take down early on. As the round went on it seemed as though Steve was starting to get the measure of his opponent and combined with some solid work inside, took the round by most peoples account.
Going into round three a round apiece, Storm perhaps sensed that he was a step behind on the feet and seemed to put extra emphasis on taking Steve off of his feet. An interesting battle ensured with Corban managing to hit some nice take downs only for Steve to bounce right back up. No doubt flustered and frustrated at reaping no reward for such an energy exersion, Storms shots began to get a little bit sloppy and Steve began countering with mean intentions. A bizarre pimp slap from hell close to two minutes in scrambled Storms brains and though he tried to regain his composure, Steve pounced on him and sent him crashing with a hook, following him down to the ground and ending the fight at 2:13 of Round 3 by TKO.
Possibly a disappointing result for Corban Storm who may have felt he had the skills to get the job done on the night but Chris Steve is currently on another level and it is going to take something quite special to take him out at this point.
For a fighter like Chris Steve, there seems to be little out there to trouble him within the sphere of his particular sphere of the tycoonverse and as it stands, there is no real clear contender in the division that hasn't already had a shot at the title and failed. Empire management will be sitting down with Steve in the next few days with a view to finding him a challenge worthy of his talents and star appeal but for now, Chris Steve stands as the king of welterweight division.

Nope, I told you from the beginning to put him on weight gain.

It's documented, Karter even posted right after that Steve would crush Mumu.

You chose to never put him on weight gain then never made it to the top 10 while Steve climbed to the #3 P4P spot and your ship sailed.

You are well known for only fighting when you have an edge and org owners usually bend to your will but in this case I made it clear you had to get on weight gain to fight the superior fighter.

oh and :)

Title Fights

Week Ending Feb 17th 2019
Empire Heavyweight Title Fight
(EMP Tower vs Murha, Madison Garden Arena)
http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/15364292816192.gif http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14223487241924.jpg
Iain "The CN" Tower vs. Big Murha
Meeting for the second time in their careers, Empire Heavyweight champion Iain Tower took on challenger Big Murha and the results were decisive
Improving on their first encounter which ended in a third round KO for Tower, this time proceedings needed only a single round to decide who would be going home with the belt and once again it was the heavy accurate shots of Tower that got the job done. Some ferocious kicks to the body no doubt softened the Finnish fighters resolve a little, it was again a combination cross and lead hook that knocked Murha out cold.
Tower has defeated some tough competition in the heavyweight ranks here at Empire but luckily for him there is no shortage of hungry up and comers looking for their shot at the big time. It's likely that another rematch against Super Heavyweight would be first on the agenda with No.2 ranked Crotch Grabber only one win away from challenging afterwards. Also we have former SyFi heavyweight champion Rick Piano making his way to the top as well as veteran "Big" Steve Butabi currently on a good run of form.
Empire Middleweight Title Fight
(EMP Gagnon vs Murhaa, Madison Garden Arena)
http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/15238285841862.jpg http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/38/38w23.jpg
"Cool Hand" Luc Gagnon vs. Ispa Murhaa
Once again it was top ranked managers Alex K and Ispa Murhapuro meeting for the title this time in the middleweight division.
Canada's Luc Gagnon, currently enjoying his second run as Empire champion faced possibly his biggest challenge to date in the form of undefeated former IFC champion, 17-0 Ispa Murhaa
Murhaa came prepared and it was a decent scrap but Gagnon was able to convince the judges of his dominance, taking four of the five rounds and winning a unanimous decision to make it two defences in a row.
A super fight is in the works for Gagnon while he waits for his next contender of whom could very well be no.3 p4p in the game, Chris Steve. Steve, who has a warm up fight at his new weight against underdog Boris Bulletzowich, would be the undeniable number contender should he be successful in that match up and the prospect of a showdown between the two would be positively mouth watering.
Elsewhere in the division, returning former Empire fighter Wet Wild made a successful debut this weekend and is currently on a four fight win streak and looking like a credible threat in the division. Fomer IFC champion Roman Divac is also in good form and riding high

Empire Light-Heavyweight Title Fight
(EMP Toivonen vs Ispa, Madison Garden Arena)
http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/13922388196887.png http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/22/22w24.jpg
Pekka "Punchmaster General" Toivonen vs. Tank Ispa
The third title fight of the weekend was for the Light-Heavyweight championship and Champion Pekka Toivonen took on dangerous up and comer Tank Ispa for his third defence
Ispa impressed with a clever game plan of taking Toivonen off of his feet and onto the ground though he was unable to do much with him on the couple of occasions he got him there. The majority of the bout was spent on the feet where Pekka's kicks did most of the scoring and awarded him the unanimous decision at the end of five rounds.
A remarkable performance from the champion who has amassed a great deal of respect in the Empire ranks in a relatively short period of time. In fact, including tonight's bout, Toivonen has had only ten professional fights though you would be forgiven for mistaking him as a seasoned vet.
A number one contender fight between Captain Gonza and Mark Steve will decide who get's the next shot at Toivonen's title
