UFC Changed

That would be the new ownership thinking with their wallets instead of actually being fans of the sport. Anybody that has paid attention over the last several months knew this day would come.

And so the transition to corrupt boxing, popularity and money whoring has begun for MMA. We shall mourn this day.

In Hollywood there's this concept where you have to do "money pictures" so you can do "art pictures." That is, your favorite actor has to do a dumb superhero movie before the studio will let him do his artsy fartsy steampunk shakespeare adaptation.

So it is with fights - you get your money "freakshow" fights to appeal to the casuals in the main event and hopefully legit contenders for the hardcores in the co main. If you're patient, everyone gets what they want eventually.

This is not to say the new owners aren't shitting the bed, or that there isn't relative lack of compelling fighters (though it's hard to make that case right after that DJ fight) - but this is nothing new. Remember "the golden age of japanese mma," as some call it? That was 90% freak show money fights. Things have improved since the days of Coleman/Takada

foul moth trash-talking gets you multiple division title shots and sanctuary from the bosses
that's how the promotion is
the sport is becoming more and more corrupt and more towards a complete business rather than a sport, after all this mcgregor bulshit , thank you mcgregor for that
can't blame him though .. dude wanted to make some money ..one got to do what he got to do to make some buck ;)
( it was a bussines from the beginning...that's what a promotion is, but at least they used to care something about the sport )

And they still got divisional rankings to make it more of a joke .. why they have rankings at all if the top ranked fighters don't get title shots, but some people can frog leap them all and get tile shots ( some even without even fighting in the division at all )

specially the p4p rankings are complete bull... the only ranking that is true in current p4p is DJ at the top ...

It's either not as bad now as you think it is or it never was as good as you think it was.

Most accurate statement. Negativity is a virus that spreads through people. People are quick to grab their pitchforks instead of sitting back and enjoying the show.

Randy Couture vs Tim Sylvia / James Toney

Matt Hughes vs Royce Gracie

Anderson Silva vs James Irvin / Stephen Bonnar / Forest Griffin

Anybody remember Tito Ortiz? Shamrock? Chael Sonnen? Sonnen vs Jones LHW title? Lesnar circus. CM Punk...

it's the same shit, different day.

I like watching fighters fight. #10 vs #1 or #1 vs #2, it's a fight. Hell I'd watch two guys throw down outside, regardless of skill level lol.. I'd like to see McGregor fight anybody in the UFC. I don't care if it's Ray Borg, Matt Serra, Brock Lesnar. I'd watch it. I wouldn't pay for it, but I'd like to watch it.

I'd love to see McGregor vs Diaz 3. Nate Diaz, Nick Diaz, Tony Ferg, Khabib, any of em. The uproar about who McGregor fights is excessive. He legitimately knocked out 145 and 155 champions. Nobody can take that away from him. Love him or hate him he's a really good fighter and (more often than not) charismatic shit talker.

Since Lesnar it has started to change to where we are today, essentially we have WWE with fewer promotions and real fighting, i have been talking about this for months (topic here: http://www.mmatycoon.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=57808) The circus reached new heights with the Boxing fight between McGregor, stripping of the title and "giving it" back to Aldo, then we have GSP fighting for a title in a weight class he has never performed. All of these things have happened after that topic.

There is good news though, it seems Bellator is stealing a lot of their talent, i think the UFC does not really care that much about their fighters, they see everyone as just meat that can be processed. I think eventually Bellator will become a significant competitor to the UFC and we could even see some up start orgs gain momentum because there are plenty of purist fans that want to see the best fight the best and not simply celebrities. I am all for celebrity cards or legends vs legends fights, but when you mix those with the belts, then you start having a problem.
