Commentary guidelines

Recommended Posts

We'd love for you guys to give us your own commentary ideas and we will add all the best ones into the game. Here are the guidelines for submitting your efforts.

Symbols

We have 3 symbols in the commentary which you need to know (and use).

~ is the aggressor (the person throwing the punch/kick/attempting the submission).

^ is the receiver (the person getting punched/kicked etc).

* is a symbol for displaying either "cage" or "ropes". Note that it's those exact words though, not "octagon" or "ring", so you can't say "came into the *", because if it's a ring then it will say "came into the ropes" and that would sound dumb.

So, if you want to say "Couture pushed Liddell up against the cage", you say "~ pushed ^ up against the *".

Submitting your suggestions

Now, to actually submit your suggestions, please use one of the threads already created. There are threads for standup, clinch and groundwork. Please format your submission as follows.

Start position:

End position:

Commentary text:

Winner (if there is one): (aggressor or receiver - note that on the ground we have counter moves so the receiver can be the winner by submission).

Winning move text: e.g. Submission (armbar)

Note for ground positions: when on the ground, for position put the specific position of the person doing the initial attack, e.g. "Mount on top".

Then that's it! If we like your commentary, we'll add it to the game. Once added we will delete your post. Please contribute with your wacky and/or simple and mundane commentary lines because the game needs a good amount of both.

Start position - Clinch against the *.

End position - ~ standing ^ down on the mat

Winner - ~

~ pushes ^ against the *. ~ is working some dirty boxing to the body. ~ pushes off with a quick right hook! ^ goes down! ^ tries to stand, but stumbles back to his kness! ~ moves in to finish, but the ref steps in to prevent anymore damage!

Winning Text - Referee stoppage ( Technical Knock Out )

I'll submit more if this is ok. I like writing so I could do quite a few. With better detail and description obviously, if these meet your criteria. Bah wrong page, please move this =)

come to ask you this question after lots of talk in the improvement forums. it' about implementing alternative styles in the game. Cardiff Wanderer suggested that we could see in some future a choice between, for example, Greek roman and Judo, or MT and Kickboxing. he said it would need lots of text lines, especially non finishing moves. I'd like to contribute, but I don't know where to post, for example, Judo takedowns. is there any chance of opening such a directory in here? even if the multiple styles choice is never implemented,it could help giving flavor to the game.

I don't know if this is the right place for this question. if not, I apologize in advance.

The commentary threads below are where people should enter text they would like to see potentially added to the game, in there appropriate areas. If you are thinking of adding lots of lines, I suggest putting them in the same post or even writing them in word first and copying and pasting them over.

However;

I would like to point out as I have many times, I have no power, no influence and no say. Any changes would only ever come from Mike and he has always stayed silent on the subject.

Well, if I have been not proper in some ways I really apologize, was not my intention.just wondering about the right place to put takedowns in the contribution set, and I clearly wrote that, regardless of new styles getting in or not, it could have been fine to see some more flavor in the takedown subject, just it. About your role, I did not read all your posts, I confess, but in the threads I attended your word is often considered as the last one, so I thought you acted like the Metatron for some aspects. sorry if I misunderstood, and thanks for answering anyway...

Cheers,

Nilmar

All i wanted was to make it clear because I suggest something it won't necessarily happen. Giving me that sort of power would only lead to my best Icarus impression.

For transitions, put it in either the stand up or probably better the non finishing ground section.

QUESTION: Is there actually a correlation between the adjectives in the commentary and what is going on?

What I'm saying is...

"A devastating kick".... was that actually devastating kick, or just a regular kick?

"lands a jab".... was it just a little jab, or more of a punch?

Is this just color commentary or is the text actually being matched up to various parameters within the fight engine?
