The good(?) old days

For all who have been here since the beginning, what was this game like when it first started? Like which of all the features we have today existed and what was added on later? Has there been any major changes in how the game is played or has it always been similar to now with slowly building up your fighters, settings sliders and running businesses to support it all?

Just got curious as I have been getting into the development discussions more and more lately, but I don't have much history here so I'm just seeing the game for what it is today and not always the reasons why things are like they are.

Joined in 2015, not that long ago. Since then we've had tons of massive changes such as a ground and pound damage slider and... erm...

fam ... can't believe you forgot about the belt cabinet like that

the game in the early days was a completely different setup. Nobody knew anything about sliders, starting builds were more varied than they've ever been with people trying out everything, and money was scarce.

Eventually people figured out the hiddens equation, and eventually got enough money to just hide their projects away in a gym to give themselves the most ideal setup for their fighters. Now, there have been numerous things that contributed to it, such as PPV being cracked and bringing in a huge influx of money into the games economy,

I left in early 2013, came back in late 2013 and the game has just got to the point that there is really nothing *new* to discover about the game which is where there was a lot of buzz and excitement about it to begin with.

I think it's pretty much the same but on a lesser scale. I can't remember when I played before (not 2009 by any means) but it was around the time of Warbringers in Rio (awesome, awesome mid level org with amazing write ups), a top org called Troid (? i think it was called that), a manager called Jackie Chan who was ranked number one but who everyone seemed to hate and an alliance called the Rio Jungle Movement Fight Club or something which was huge but had a bad reputation for some reason that don't recall.

So pretty much everything that is around now. Oh except then every city had plenty of orgs, companies and gyms. Even public gyms.

No skill decline. Learning speeds were faster. There was no cap.

There were small gyms, but no private ones. Any decent run gym was always at capacity. I used to wait on Thursdays for the top gyms to kick someone out when they couldn't pay their dues. That was the best way to get your fighter top training. Even then you were training 2-3 a session.

Money was tight. If you opened up a company and could not pay the loan back....you would lose VIP. No one had much cash to float you.

The highest supplement was 159 for a long time. No one had the money to research a 160 product.

The top two orgs, Syn and the Canadian Fighting Championships, battled it out each week to see who had the balls to risk their nut on the first PPV (or so thought first PPV) and not lose their shirt.

YB Sol was the first true star of the game. He capitalized on "sub spamming" and I guess engineered the first change to the fight engine that I witnessed by reducing energy for that. He cruised to 14-0 record before his Coming to Jesus moment.

So many great fighters of old being talked about on the forums with creative backstories and interviews. Jigoro Kane in my mind during my time in the game was the scariest of all the fighters that I've witnessed. He seemed to be the chuck liddell of the game without the dropoff at the end.

Alliances paved the way to networks of orgs joining together and branding across the game. There were large scale tournaments with many orgs and various cities involved.

Mike was single with no kids :P

what about skill decline...If I recall when I first started there weren't skill declines that kicked in at the random age....that was introduced down the road...so fighters could start at 18 and if they had excellent learning they could become elite in like everything haha.

I didn't start at the very beginning, but I did start in 2010 and there was skill decline due to old age and a skill cap by then. Escapes and Transitions were not around yet. TD and Sub Spam did not work because you would get energy drained from doing it over and over like that (apparently that has been Nerfed again), the 100% counter era had just ended and there was just starting to be a lot of money getting circulated. There were still a decent amount of public gyms available, but the quality was lacking since they were all overcrowded and so if you did not have a private gym then you were going to lose against those that did. but the game was fun and exciting and I got addicted to it and I still am. I left for about four years due to life fucking me as usual and finally I got back to it and now I am going to stay until the whole thing crashes and burns, which hopefully will be many many years and lots of money from now
