Huge Bias (fight rating) against grappling

Have a look at this fight (and it is not the exception):

Fight ended in round 1 with a submission, in it there were 3 sub attempts, takedown, clinch... and the fight rating was 26%!!! Really?

Maybe this is representative of a crowd in the early 2000s, but it is a bit ridiculous now.

I think its common knowledge that subs and grappling generate less popularity (maybe hype and ratings) than KOs.

I think fight ratings also depend on other criteria, such as whether or not the fight was close; cant remember others off the top of my head.

Ok, but this seems a bit extreme to me.

I had forgotten that fight rating existed, you shouldn't pay attention to it.

I am quite new so sorry if being ignorant, but doesn't your hype and popularity depend on it? If so, then clearly grapplers are at a large disadvantage when signed and getting contracts.

Nah, hype gains are related to your fighter's hype : opponent's hype ratio mostly, while popularity gains depend on aggression and fight outcome(decision/finish). In the future you'll find out that grapplers are generally fucked up in mmat, but the fight rating is their least problem :)

Hmmm, how so? Are they not viable because submissions less likely or because the referee stands fighters up too soon (thats what it seems like to me)?

Escapes are OP, subs are hard to get, gnp is not scored properly when it comes to decision. Also actions per minute are much lower on the ground compared to striking/clinch. Also you need more secondaries for a grappler than a striker.

Makes sense given what I have seen. Thanks a lot.

To casual fans who don't really watch MMA you are right... Grappling is the missing aspect of muy thai and boxing.. MOST MMA fans DO NOT watch boxing AT ALL... If there was no grappling in MMA it would not be even close to as popular... There are polls online that prove that the average fan enjoys a grappling match, they just hate when people do "lay and prey" Khabib is one of the worlds most popular fighters, He cannot strike worth shit on the feet, the most we have seen him do is land a few lucky strikes... Also about 50-60% of mma fans do or have at some point trained Jui Jitsu, it's common knowledge that someone in mma with no wrestling or grappling is going to lose almost all their fights so the audacity of you to say "grappling generates less popularity" is downright blasphemous and an outright proven lie!

This is the only time somebodies ignorance has pissed me off on the forums...

@ savageMMa Khabibs striking is way better than he gets credit for. He can seem like a spazz when punches are thrown at him but he has never been dropped, and offensively has a pretty good jab, and decent power.

Anyways, yea im fucked, all my fighters are grappling based.. shit lmao. And fight ratings seem to be nonsense. I just had a fight where my guy won a 1st round KO in less than 2 min. But fight rating was like 57 or something.

You were right until the end then you went off at aylib for no reason at all. he is talking about the game (which should be obvious).

Having said that, grapplers can be very sucessful at lower levels. it's when everybody is maxed out with Elite Wrestling/BJJ Black Belt/ Elite secondaries that grapplers become less effective, for many reasons, the biggest one IMO being the incredibly low ammonut of actions per minute on the ground which makes you run out of time very quickly.

I actually strongly advise noobs to create a couple grapplers so they can score a couple sub wins against white belts and feel good about themselves.

I would disagree with statements about Khabib's striking and power. Pillow fist. Seen him GNP many fighters and none went to sleep. He has one career knockdown against a hungover egomaniac who had his hands down, who is not known for great chin.

Idk. Khabib is a beast. But dude doesn't have KO power or Conor would of went to sleep. He threw that punch with all his Dagasteni might.
